Jada Pinkett Smith makes another shocking revelation over why Chris Rock was slapped on stage

The mystery surrounding the motivations behind Will Smith’s unexpected slap on comedian Chris Rock during the 2022 Academy Awards continues to deepen.

In a recent revelation, Jada Pinkett Smith, Will Smith’s wife, has firmly denied any involvement in the infamous incident.

Contrary to speculation, Jada clarified that she had no role in Will Smith’s actions at the Oscars, specifically in response to a joke by Rock about Jada’s appearance due to her alopecia. The joke compared her to “G.I. Jane” due to her bald head, a result of her alopecia battle.

During an appearance on Steven Bartlett’s podcast, Jada debunked the notion that she signaled disapproval to Will, asserting that she played no part in the incident and even humorously remarked, “Even if it was [a signal], I can’t force Will to do anything!”

Anticipating blame for the incident, Jada acknowledged that she expected the controversy but stressed that the Oscars incident was not about her.

She mentioned the involvement of broader factors and emotions, including the release of Will’s film “Emancipation” and the complex history between him and Chris Rock.

In a candid revelation, Jada disclosed that she and Will had quietly separated seven years ago, shedding light on her feelings of resentment during their separation.

She attributed relationship issues to differing love languages, highlighting her desire for emotional connection and presence over material security, which aligned with Will’s love language. Their dynamics were influenced by these contrasting expressions of love.

The unfolding narrative continues to shed light on the complexities surrounding the incident, painting a nuanced picture of the circumstances and emotions at play during that night at the Oscars.

I love his sense of humor: Jada Smith on why she can’t divorce Will Smith

American actress and talk show host Jada Pinkett Smith, in a recent episode of the On Purpose podcast hosted by Jay Shetty, explained her reasons for not divorcing her husband, Will Smith, despite the fact that they have been living separate lives since 2016.

When the podcast host read a message from Will Smith praising Jada Pinkett Smith’s memoir, ‘Worthy’, she responded by saying, “his sense of humor is why I can’t divorce ‘that joker’.”

The host read: “I applaud and honour you. If I had read this book 30 years ago, I definitely would have hugged you more. I’ll start now. Welcome to the authors club. I love you endlessly. Now go get some Merlot and take a rest.”

Jada Pinkett blushed: “Hahaha. He knows I can’t have no Merlot. That’s beautiful. That’s why I can’t divorce that joker [laughs].”

Pinkett recently disclosed in a clip from her forthcoming NBC News primetime special with Hoda Kotb that she and her husband, Will Smith, have been living separately since 2016.

“It was not a divorce on paper but it was a divorce. Since 2016, we have been living apart,” Pinkett said.

Chris Rock expressed interest in taking me out – Jada Smith

Actress and talk show host Jada Pinkett Smith has revealed that even Chris Rock had expressed interest in the state of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s marriage in recent years, which has attracted a lot of media attention.

“Every summer all the reports would come out that me and Will were getting a divorce,” Pinkett Smith told People magazine. “And this particular summer, Chris [Rock], he thought that we were getting a divorce. So he called me and basically he was like, ‘I’d love to take you out.’”

Pinkett Smith expressed surprise at the phone call from Chris Rock.

“I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ He was like, ‘Well, aren’t you and Will getting a divorce?’ I was like, ‘No. Chris, those are just rumors,’” Pinket Smith recalled. “He was appalled. And he profusely apologized and that was that.”

CNN has attempted to contact Chris Rock’s representatives for a response.

Jada Pinkett Smith recounts this incident in her upcoming memoir, “Worthy.”

During the 2022 Oscars telecast, her husband, Will Smith, slapped Chris Rock on stage when Rock made a joke about Pinkett Smith’s baldness, resulting from her alopecia condition.

Pinkett Smith told People magazine that she believed there might have been a “misunderstanding between Chris and I regarding the 2016 Oscars.”

In 2016, Rock was hosting the Oscars, and Pinkett Smith called for a boycott as part of the #OscarsSoWhite movement after her husband was not nominated for his role in “Concussion.”

She now says she may not have been aware of the “level of pressure” Rock may have been under at the time.

“I probably should have called him and gone, ‘Hey, are you okay?,’” she said. “And just know that although I’m speaking out about the Oscars, I do wish you the best and I just want you to know that,’ me taking the time to have called him and said that, just to touch base. But his feelings might’ve been hurt.”

They reconciled after the 2016 incident and offered apologies to each other, according to Pinkett Smith.

During the 2022 Oscars ceremony, following the slap, Rock made an effort to talk to her during a break and extend his apology.

“He said, ‘I didn’t mean you any harm.’ I said, ‘I can’t talk about this now, Chris. This is some old s**t,’” she told People. “I thought this was [about] the Oscar 2016 and … their stuff that they had before I even came into the picture in the late ’80s. I’ve got to leave that to Will and Chris to talk about, but they got their stuff for sure.”

Her memoir is set to be published Oct. 17.

Will and I have been separated for 7 years – Jada Pinkett Smith reveals

Celebrity couple Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have been living separately for the past 7 years, a fact that Jada recently disclosed in her new memoir. She confirmed this information in interviews with People Magazine and ‘Today,’ revealing that their lives have been on separate paths since 2016, and they still maintain separate residences.

Jada Pinkett Smith also revealed that they were already separated when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars last year. This incident brought their relationship dynamics into the public eye, which had long been the subject of rumors and speculation. Jada admitted that she was initially shocked by the violent moment, thinking it was a skit at first.

She further acknowledged that she and Will have been maintaining a facade of a committed couple for a significant amount of time. They continued to present a united front at public events following their 2016 separation and publicly denied any issues when questioned.

The revelation of their complete separation is a new development, although the crack in their relationship became public when Jada confessed to having an “entanglement” with family friend August Alsina a few years ago. At the time, Alsina claimed that Will had given his approval for the situation. However, Jada has chosen not to disclose the specific reasons that led to their uncoupling, stating only that there were “a lot of things” that preceded their breakup.

Jada Pinkett Smith also mentioned that she hasn’t been able to bring herself to divorce Will, as she remains committed to “working through anything.” This rationale may seem perplexing to some and doesn’t provide a clear explanation for their current situation.

Will Smith’s wife grows new hair after suffering from alopecia

Jada Pinkett Smith appears to be actively working to change public perception and discourse about her condition in light of the recent controversy surrounding her hair loss at the 2022 Academy Awards.

The 51-year-old mother is on a journey to defeat her raging battle with alopecia, a medical condition in which a person experiences hair loss.

Pinkett Smith took to her Instagram account to post two pictures of herself; the first shows herself bald and the second shows some dark hair sprouting on her head.

“This here hair is act’n like it’s try’n a make a comeback,” the actress wrote in the caption. “Still have some trouble spots but — we’ll see.”

Her family hasn’t taken jokes made about her medical condition lightly. Last year at the Academy Awards, Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock after he passed a joke about Pinkett Smith’s hair loss. The incident attracted backlash but raised awareness of Pinkett Smith’s medical condition. Though Will Smith has apologized for his actions, he has been banned from participating in the Oscars for the next 10 years.

Pinkett Smith has been candid about her struggle with alopecia. In a Facebook Watch talk show episode, she shared her distressing experience of finding clumps of hair falling out and how it prompted her to cut her hair.

Despite medical tests, the root cause of her alopecia remains elusive, though stress is a suspected factor.

  • Will Smith understands if you don’t want to see his latest film

“If someone is not ready, I would absolutely respect that and allow them their space to not be ready,” the actor said in an interview.

Actor Will Smith said he understands why people might not want to see his upcoming movie.

Smith won the Best Actor Oscar earlier this year for his role in “King Richard,” but garnered more attention that night for slapping comedian Chris Rock, who made a joke onstage about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

As a result, he was banned from attending the Oscars for the next decade ― even though it’s possible he could be nominated and even win an award.

“Emancipation,” Smith’s first film since the slap, opens in theaters Dec. 2 before streaming on Apple TV a week later.

The film is loosely based on the life of an enslaved man named Gordon, whose scarred back was photographed in 1863 and was famously used by abolitionists to show the public just how brutal slavery was.

“Emancipation” is getting some Oscar buzz, but Smith said he understands if filmgoers have second thoughts about watching it considering his behavior at the last ceremony.

“I completely understand that if someone is not ready, I would absolutely respect that and allow them their space to not be ready,” Smith told film critic Kevin McCarthy in an interview clip posted on social media.

Smith said that he hopes the reaction to the slap doesn’t affect the film’s chances of success or the award opportunities for the other people who worked on the film.

“My deepest concern is my team — [director Antoine Fuqua] has done what I think is the greatest work of his entire career,” Smith said.

“I’m hoping that the material, the power of the film, the timeliness of the story — I’m hoping that the good that can be done — will open people’s hearts at a minimum to see and recognize and support the incredible artists in and around this film,” he said.

  • Will Smith says bottled rage led him to slap Chris Rock at the Oscars

Will Smith has said his “bottled” rage led him to slap comedian Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars in March.

The actor has been interviewed for the first time since the incident, which he described as “a horrific night”.

Appearing on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, he said: “I was going through something that night, you know?

“Not that that justifies my behaviour at all.” Smith added that there were “many nuances and complexities to it”, but added: “I just – I lost it.”

Smith stormed the stage at the Hollywood award ceremony after Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife’s shaved head. Jada Pinkett Smith has the hair loss condition alopecia.

‘I understand how shocking that was’

He had previously said his wife did not ask him to confront Rock.

“I guess what I would say is that you just never know what somebody’s going through,” he said, without elaborating on what he was referring to.

The interview on the late-night US TV talk show was the first time Smith had been publicly challenged about the attack.

“I understand how shocking that was for people… I was gone. That was a rage that had been bottled for a really long time,” he told Noah.

“That was a horrific night, as you can imagine.”

In July he posted a video on YouTube, answering questions that appeared to be written by fans about the Academy Awards. Prior to that, he had only issued written statements about the altercation.

He appeared on Monday evening’s episode of The Daily Show to promote his upcoming film Emancipation, to be released next week, making it eligible for next year’s Oscars.

Smith, who received this year’s best actor award after the slap, said the idea that his new the film would be “tainted” during the upcoming awards season by his actions was “killing me dead”.

The 54-year-old has been banned from attending the Oscars for 10 years, and has also resigned from the Academy, which organises the ceremony.

Asked in a separate interview what he would say to critics claiming it was too soon for him to be promoting his work, he replied: “I completely understand that if you know someone is not ready.

“I would absolutely respect that and allow them their space to not be ready.

“My deepest concern is my team. The people on this team have done some of the best work their entire careers, and my deepest hope is that my actions don’t penalise my team.”

    Country singer Jana Kramer, who was also this week’s celebrity guest on the Facebook Watch series, asked Jadda whether such arrangements bother her, and she said;

“Never. They take trips; I’m not there. They do their thing. Will and Jada Pinkett got married in December of 1997, two years after their divorce. They have two children together, a son, Jaden Smith, 24, and a daughter, Willow Smith, 21.

  • Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith seen out together for the first time since the Oscars slap

After the infamous Oscars slap, which occurred in March, Will Smith and wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, were spotted together in public recently.

The couple enjoyed an afternoon date at Nobu Malibu on Saturday as they were photographed out together for the first time since Will, 53, smacked Chris Rock on stage in defense of Jada, 50, at the 94th Academy Awards.

They appeared to be in good spirits and a beard-sporting Will even threw the peace sign to a fan as Jada appeared to hold onto his belt loop while they walked to their car.

The debacle at March’s awards show unraveled after Rock, 57, made light of Jada’s hair loss (she’s been open about living with alopecia). “Jada, I love ya. G.I. Jane 2, can’t wait to see ya,” he joked.

Will then walked onto the stage and slapped Rock in the face, leaving the audience and live viewers around the world stunned. “Oh wow,” said Rock as Will made his way back to his seat. “Will Smith just smacked the s— out of me.”

  • Will Smith claims he has spoken with Chris Rock about the Oscars smack.

After slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars, Will Smith claims he “reached out” to him, but the comic has stated he is “not ready to chat.”

After the comedian made a joke about Smith’s wife at the Academy Awards in March, the actor smacked Rock on stage.

Smith renewed his apology in a video that he published on Friday in which he reflected on the slap. This was the first time Smith had been seen talking about the incident.

“I apologize to Chris. My actions were unacceptable “said he. I’m available whenever you want to talk.

Smith has previously only issued written statements about the altercation. In the video, on his own YouTube channel, he answers questions that appear to be written by fans.

He reads out out the questions himself, addressing the camera directly.

“I spent the last three months replaying and understanding the nuances and the complexities of what happened in that moment,” the actor said.

“I wasn’t thinking about how many people got hurt in that moment… There is no part of me that thinks that was the right way to behave in that moment.”

Smith explained: “I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk and when he is, he will reach out.”

Figure caption, He also said his wife Jada Pinkett Smith did not ask him to do something to defend her after Rock made the joke. “Jada had nothing to do with it,” Smith said.

“I want to say sorry to my kids and my family for the heat that I brought on all of us.”

Rock had taken aim at Pinkett Smith’s shaved head, a result of the hair-loss condition alopecia.

Pinkett Smith spoke last month saying it was her “deepest hope” that her husband and Rock could “reconcile” after the incident.

She had previously posted on her social media after the slap that it was a “season for healing”.

Smith also apologised to his fellow nominees at the Oscars ceremony.

“Knowing that this is a community, it’s almost as though your votes helped me win.
I feel so terrible for having taken advantage of you and marred your moment.”

Smith earned his first Oscar for his performance in King Richard, a movie about the father of Serena and Venus Williams, after the incident on stage.

Smith has been prohibited from attending Academy functions for the next 10 years as a result of what the Oscars have called his “unacceptable and damaging behavior” on stage.

It was stated that following the slap, Smith was asked to leave the award ceremony, but he refused. A producer later clarified that Rock himself had not intended for Smith to be expelled violently or taken into custody by the police.

  • I hope Will Smith and Chris Rock will talk things out – Jada Pinkett

Jada Pinkett Smith briefly addressed the Oscars slap incident on Wednesday’s episode of “Red Table Talk.”

Pinkett Smith’s husband, Will Smith, took to the stage at the Academy Awards in March and slapped presenter Chris Rock after he made a joke about Pinkett Smith’s close-cropped haircut.

The actress suffers from alopecia, which causes hair loss.

On Her Facebook Watch show, Pinkett Smith had as a guest the mother of 12-year-old Rio Allred, who died by suicide after being bullied for having alopecia.

“This is a really important ‘Red Table Talk’ on alopecia. Considering what I’ve been through and what happened at the Oscars, thousands have reached out to me with their stories,” Pinkett Smith said during the show.

“I’m using this moment to give our alopecia family an opportunity to talk about what it’s like to have this condition and to inform people about what alopecia actually is.”

She then addressed the incident between her husband and Rock.

“Now, about Oscar night, my deepest hope is that these two intelligent, capable men have an opportunity to heal, talk this out, and reconcile. The state of the world today, we need ’em both, and we all actually need one another more than ever,” she said.

“Until then, Will and I are continuing to do what we have done for the last 28 years, and that keeps figuring out this thing called life together. Thank you for listening.”

It was Pinkett Smith’s first public remark about what happened at the Oscars. In April, a title card at the beginning of her show read, “Considering all that has happened in the last few weeks, the Smith family has been focused on deep healing. Some of the discoveries around our healing will be shared at the table when the time calls.

Until then the table will continue offering itself to powerful, inspiring, and healing testimonies like that of our incredibly impressive first guest.”

Her husband publicly apologized to Rock and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences in a statement after the incident.

The Academy banned Smith from attending the Oscars for a decade as punishment.
