Ghanaian actor Richard Kweku Asante, popularly known as Kalybos, has opened up about the end of his five-year relationship with his ex-girlfriend, Frimpongmaa.

Speaking on the Girl’s Aloud podcast, Kalybos shared that the relationship ultimately didn’t work out, though he refrained from going into specific details about the breakup.

“Being in a relationship for a longer period doesn’t mean you have to settle with the person no matter what. When you assess yourself and something is not going the way you want, then [you walk out],” he said.

Responding to a question by one of the hosts on whether things weren’t going the way he wanted with Frimpongmaa, he answered, “no, it wasn’t.”

Being in a long-term relationship doesn’t guarantee marriage – Kalybos

Ghanaian comedian Kalybos has ignited a social media debate with his unexpected answer to why he ended a five-year relationship with his ex-girlfriend to marry someone else.

In a preview from the upcoming episode of the Girls Aloud podcast, a panellist questioned Kalybos about his decision not to marry his long-time girlfriend, Frimpongmaa, even after five years together.

The question from one of the panellists was straightforward: “Before you got married, you had a girlfriend for five years, Frimpongmaa, so why didn’t you marry her?”

Kalybos explained, “Being in a relationship for a longer period doesn’t mean you have to settle with the person no matter what. When you assess yourself and something is not going the way you want, then…”

The panellist, not entirely satisfied with his answer, pressed further: “So, things weren’t going the way you wanted with Frimpongmaa?”

To which Kalybos bluntly replied, “No, it wasn’t.”

The conversation then took an unexpected turn when the panellist asked whether Kalybos married his wife because of her wealth or because she is from the diaspora.

“Did you marry your wife because she’s from the diaspora or because she has money?” she asked.

With a stern look, Kalybos responded, “Yeah, because she has money. She’s a rich woman.”

Kalybos recently marked his first wedding anniversary with his wife, sharing a heartfelt message on social media.

According to Kalybos, the policy has saved numerous homes and relieved him of a great deal of responsibility.

Check out what Kalybos did to receive backlash from netizens

Ghanaian actor Kalybos has received massive backlash from netizens after he posted a video on instagram.

In the video, actors like Kalybos, Nadia Buari, Zynell Zuh, Hailey Sumney, and others could be seen having fun and showcasing the behind-the-scenes of the movie they were filming in a video that was circulated. The video’s use of Sarkodie’s “Try Me,” which was directed at fellow actress Yvonne Nelson, as the background music.

The use of Sarkodie’s Try me song has sparked mixed reactions among users on social media, causing a division of opinions. While some individuals have voiced their disappointment and criticized the actors for their actions, others have taken a contrasting stance.

Below are some reactions from netizens

One user said, “Hmmm…I like the entire crew…but I don’t like the song though ????…despite the fact that Sarkodie is my Best Musician in Ghana,” expressing their disapproval of the song choice.

Another social media user added, “Oh, you people are using this disgraceful song? Or are you doing it because you are not in good terms with Yvonne, so you support Sarkodie. So shameful,” implying that the actors’ choice of song was motivated by a negative relationship with Yvonne Nelson.

A particularly disgruntled user expressed their disappointment in actors Kalybos and Nadia Buari, stating, “I thought they’re supposed to have each other’s backs noorrr hmmm. This shows that they all might have been envying, jealous, and hating on Yvonne for a long time on low key… playing this derogating disrespectful and insulting song by @sarkodie directed at Yvonne on their gatherings tells it all.

“Wow, I’m so disappointed in @kalybos1 and @iamnadiabuari, these two have been my all-time best and favorite, not even the Yvonne Nelson I am supporting in this case, and yet they do this ???????????? I never thought they could stoop this low, be this bitter and hateful too towards Yvonne Nelson like Sarkodie… As for the rest of the ladies, it’s obvious if they hate and envy Yvonne, the girl’s height and beauty alone helped her to play in almost all of Ghana’s top hit movies by playing major lead roles and not them, so somehow, they are jealous and angry with her. Still, it is not her fault if they should be angry with her for that… but Kalybos norr, what’s his beef with Yvonne Nelson too?

“Doing this to your colleague actors is absurd and wicked!!! These are some of the behaviors and attitudes in we Africans reasons why we are not progressing above the mediocre standards we feel so content with and complacent about.. sad reality..”

    Background

On the back of Yvonne’s claim that Sarkodie impregnated her in 2010 but had to abort the baby because the rapper did not like the idea of keeping the baby, Sarkodie replied with a track titled ‘Try Me.’

In the song, he addressed Yvonne’s accusations of pregnancy and denial, stating that it was her decision to undergo an abortion.

Sarkodie alleged that Yvonne was manipulating the situation, taking advantage of the fact that society tends to listen to women more than men.

Yvonne, on the other hand, took to Twitter to express her discontent with Sarkodie’s reply, engaging in a series of rants aimed at addressing the lyrics that hurt her the most.

As the controversy continues, the public eagerly awaits further developments in the Sarkodie-Yvonne scandal, hoping for a resolution that promotes understanding and healing for all parties involved.

It is rare for people to admit to being unfaithful in their relationships, especially in public.

But comedian Richard Kweku Asante, known in showbiz as Kalybos, did just that on television.

He admitted to the host of The Doreen Avio Show on Joy Prime that he had previously cheated on his current partner.

The comic actor was asked whether he had ever cheated on his partner before, and he responded, “Yes. The current one, yes.”

The studio audience erupted in applause after hearing his confession, possibly because of his candour.

“Oh yes. I am [in a relationship]. I happened to fall into one, and I like where it is. In my line of work, most of my colleagues might not agree with this. But very important you have a relationship; have a single relationship.”

“You meet ladies, new faces all the time, so if you’re one who is picky and is not content with what he has, you might find a lady attractive, but tomorrow, definitely, trust me, you’ll find a different lady who’s more than what you saw. It all boils down to you, the guy. Assess yourself to know that I need to settle down with one lady, then the rest can follow,” he advised.

Kalybos did not reveal his current girlfriend’s identity or the circumstances that led him to cheat on her.

However, the filmmaker, admonished individuals who wish to settle down to give it careful thought.

This, he believes, will reduce the tendency to break up with one’s partner.

Kalybos further indicated that he has over the years learned a lot from his female siblings.

One of these lessons, he claims, is how to handle and treat ladies.

  • Why I did not accept Kalybos’ proposal – Gyakie

Why I did not accept Kalybos’ proposal – Gyakie

Comic actor Kalybos was left heartbroken after his proposal to Ghanaian songstress, Gyakie was rejected.

Kalybos revealed publicly in a recent interview that he becomes lovestruck anytime he sees or hears the 24-year-old, adding that he would love to start a beautiful relationship with her.

Among other things, he stated that his feelings for Gyakie surpass the 16 celebrity crushes he has in Ghana, and he would marry her if given the chance.

However, his proposal was turned down, and the reason, Gyakie has revealed is that she felt Kalybos was not serious about his assertions.

Why I did not accept Kalybos’ proposal – Gyakie

“I thought he was being jovial, I didn’t know he was serious,” she defended in an interview with Sammykaymedia.

According to her, they had spoken on multiple occasions, but the discussion was always on a musical level, the reason she believes his proposal is one of his gimmicks.

Should Kalybos exhibit seriousness, Gyakie revealed they would have further discussions off the cameras and see what would become of them.

  • #OforiAttaMustGo: Four Akufo-Addo celebrity campaigners who are silent

There is a substantial precedent in Ghana’s politics under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as even MPs of the ruling party are calling for the resignation of the country’s Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta for nonperformance.

These celebrities are yet to speak on the #OforiAttaMustGo campaign trending on social media

The country’s economic downturn has sparked constant calls from more citizens for the resignation of the economic gatekeepers, particularly the finance minister and the Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Charles Adu Boahen.

Yet in the midst of all these, some celebrities who actively campaigned for the Nana Addo-led administration are yet to comment on the call for the aforementioned to resign or be sacked. Since the declaration was made, #OforiAttaMustGo and #KenMustGo have been trending on social media.

Although some of these ‘NPP celebrity activists’ have called out the government for overseeing a poor economic state, many are expecting them to further throw their weight behind calls for the sacking of the two personalities.

    See the list below:

    Samini

Samini who in the past criticised his colleagues for endorsing political parties and candidates took a U-turn in 2020 when he endorsed Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo through social media posts, interviews, and campaign songs. He mounted political platforms to defend his decision stressing he was convinced Nana Addo needed another term.

Despite the barrage of backlash and criticisms against him, the musician’s support for Nana Addo was inflexible.

Prior to the calls for the two personalities to be axed, Samini made a post and lamented the depreciation of the cedi and other factors that have contributed to the hardship being experienced.

Dear Nana Akufo-Addo. I supported you to bring change and stability. I believed in the vision and your concept of change! But with 2 years to go, my soul bleeds. Our investments wash away daily as the dollar openly whips our Cedi. Your people are crying. We cannot pretend all is well. But if God has blessed Ghana with anything, it is our ability to stare difficulty right in the face and say, it will #bealright. Ghana must work again! Where is the Nana Addo who begged us for the mandate?” parts of his comments read.

But Samini is yet to add his voice to the campaign seeking to remove Ofori-Atta and Adu Boahen from office for overseeing a failed economy.

    Prince David Osei

The actor was the first ‘Celebrity NPP campaigner’ to call out the government for what he described as the poor management of the country’s economy.

Prince David Osei has not only spoken against the country’s ailing economy but had also issued an ultimatum that should the economic situation in the country not improve by December, he will mobilize the youth to hit the street irrespective of party affiliation and protest.

“If things don’t change by December, we will mobilize the youth of this country and hit the street irrespective of party affiliations, whether NPP, NDC, CQQ, PNC whatever doesn’t matter now, we are all in this together.. God bless our motherland ???????? We want to see improvement in our livelihoods.. If you have to sack some people do it without fear or favor because your legacy is on the line Sir!!” parts of his post read.

However, the actor is yet to support the sacking Ofori-Atta and Adu Boahen.

    Kalybos

Unlike Prince David Osei and Samini who have spoken about the economic hardship and the need for a change in the narrative, Kalybos is yet to comment, not to talk of supporting the call for the removal of Ofori-Atta and Adu Boahen from office.

Kalybos’ silence on the economy has been loud and considering that he was one of the celebrities who vigorously campaigned for the NPP, a section of the populace is eager to hear his assessment of the economy.

    Bibi Bright

After campaigning her way up to being elected as the secretary for the Creative Arts Council under the current NPP government, Bibi Bright has been silent on political issues.

Like Kalybos, she has not spoken about the hardships in the country; neither has she supported nor kicked against calls for the dismissal of Ofori-Atta and Adu Boahen.

“It was not only movies, I had a lot of deals where I go out to promote products of companies but all that is on hold because of COVID-19,” he said in a recent interview with Graphic Showbiz sighted by Zionfelix.net.

His experience has compelled him to fast and pray to God for Him to miraculously take the virus away.

“I have fasted and prayed three times, telling God to take this virus away because I am hugely affected. This is what I depend on for survival,” Kalybos revealed.
