Europe’s oldest king in hospital following an infection

King Harald of Norway is in the hospital because he got sick while he was on vacation in Malaysia.

The king, 87, was going on a private trip overseas to celebrate his birthday but got sick before he could go. He went to Sultanah Maliha Hospital on Langkawi island in Malaysia, the Norwegian royal house said on Tuesday.

Two days before King Harald V’s birthday last week, the palace said he was going on a trip to another country, but they didn’t say when or where he was going.

There isn’t much information about his condition, but the prince is getting good care from doctors in Malaysia and Norway.

King Harald, who is the oldest monarch in Europe, has been sick a lot recently and had heart surgery last year. He was in the hospital last May to treat another infection.

Prince Haakon will continue doing the things he had already planned to do in his country.

The Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr Støre, said he felt ‘sad’ to hear that the king is in the hospital and hopes he gets better soon.

King Harald, who is related to King Charles III of Britain, became Norway’s ceremonial leader in 1991 and said that he doesn’t want to give up his position.

Queen Margrethe of Denmark, 83, stopped being the queen after 52 years. Her son Frederik took over last month.

Ghana has no King – Dormaahene claims

The Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Agyemang Badu II, has emphasized that there are no kings in Ghana, as the constitution of the country does not recognize such a title.

According to him, the paramount chief holds the highest position among chiefs, as specified in the Chieftaincy Act of Ghana.

This statement from the Dormaahene follows the use of the term ‘kings’ to refer to certain chiefs in Ghana. Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II conveyed his stance during a meeting with fellow chiefs at the Bono Regional House of Chiefs.

He reiterated that Ghana does not have kings and cautioned his fellow chiefs against external parties that bestow chieftaincy titles on individuals.

“We [Bono regional house of chiefs] have heard that some people are calling some of our chiefs to make them kings. As Bono Regional House of Chiefs, anyone who has been appointed as chief of the various towns is recognized and accorded the respect due to them. The Chieftaincy Act indicates the number of chiefs in Ghana including paramount chiefs, the Asantehene, divisional chiefs, sub-divisional chiefs, Adikromfo, and other chiefs recognized by the National House of Chiefs.

“There is no law that says that if you are a chief, there is a superior one above you. I want to say without any doubt that there is no king in Ghana – there is not. For the whole of Ghana, the paramount chief is the greatest. If anyone thinks he is the king in the country, then all paramount chiefs should be dissolved for that person to rule so that some of us can go to maybe Cote d’Ivoire or Burkina Faso,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Agyemang Badu II has cautioned members of the general public to desist from referring to chiefs and kings.

“It is something that has been entertained in Ghana, if someone is not a king, how can he be a paramount chief? As I am here as Dormaahene, am I not a paramount chief? We are hereby serving notice,” he added.

    What does the law say?

Section 57 of the Chieftaincy Act, 2008, ACT 759, provides the following definitions of a chief:

    (1) A chief is a person who, hailing from the appropriate family and lineage, has been validly nominated, elected, or selected and enstooled, enskinned or installed as a chief or queenmother in accordance with the relevant customary law and usage.
    (2) A person does not qualify as a chief if that person has been convicted of high treason, treason, high crime or for an offence involving the security of the State, fraud, dishonesty or moral turpitude.
    (3) A chief shall not take part in active party politics and a chief wishing to do so or seeking election to Parliament shall abdicate the stool or skin.
    (4) Despite subsection (3) and subject to the Constitution, a chief may be appointed to any public office for which the chief is otherwise qualified.
    (5) A person shall not be considered to be a chief for the performance of a function under this Act or any other enactment, unless that person has been registered for the performance of that function in the National Register of Chiefs and that person’s name has been published in the Chieftaincy Bulletin.

Section 58 has details on the Categories of chiefs

The following are the categories of chiefs
    (a) the Asantehene and Paramount Chiefs, (b) Divisional Chiefs,
    (c) Sub-divisional Chiefs,
    (d) Adikrofo, and
    (e) other chiefs recognised by the National IIouse.

It is the first UK coronation since that of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.

  • King’s Cross station: 12 year old child sexually assaulted by a predator in the disabled restroom

King’s Cross station: 12 year old child sexually assaulted by a predator in the disabled restroom

A “predator” who raped a 12-year-old in a restroom for the disabled at King‘s Cross Station has been sentenced to ten years in prison.

When he targeted the “extremely vulnerable” schoolgirl, Alvin Tuitt, 24, was already convicted of a “similar offence.”

Police praised the victim for her bravery in cooperating with their investigation and stated that “the impact this incident has had on the victim’s life cannot be measured.”

On October 10 of last year, Tuitt approached the girl at Maryland station in east London and the two struck up a conversation.

Tuitt let her borrow a power pack to charge her phone and paid for her onward train ticket before they travelled to King’s Cross on the same train.

When they arrived at the station, he took her to a disabled toilet where he raped her and then attempted to rape her again.

Later that day, the girl reported the sexual assault to police and Tuitt was arrested, charged and remanded within 24 hours of the attack.

    Latest London news

Tuitt, from Lewisham, pleaded guilty to rape and attempted rape, and appeared for sentencing at Inner London Crown Court on April 11.

On top of 10 years in prison for rape, the paedophile was given a five-year extended sentence on licence.

The judge also sentenced him to eight years, which will run concurrently, for an additional count of attempted rape on the same girl.

He will be subjected to a life-long Sexual Harm Prevention Order and notification requirement for life.

Detective Constable Mark Pink said: ‘The victim in this case was 12-years-old and was extremely vulnerable.

‘She has been extremely brave in telling police what happened and providing testimony to assist the investigation.

‘The effect that this incident has had on her life and that of her family cannot be measured.

‘Tuitt is a predator with a previous conviction for a similar offence and he rightfully now faces a long time behind bars.’

New website created for King Charles and Queen Camilla’s coronation

A new website for the upcoming coronation of the King and Queen Consort was unveiled on Monday by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport.

The launch date was a poignant choice — Feb. 6 is the Accession Day of the late Queen Elizabeth II and marks three months until the coronation of her eldest son on May 6.

A scroll around the new site, titled “Coronation of His Majesty The King & Her Majesty The Queen Consort,” features details on the upcoming ceremony at Westminster Abbey and the festive events planned for the three-day bank holiday weekend. Getty

In another fun update, the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport also released a “Coronation Celebration Playlist” on Spotify. The two-hour mix is eclectic, starting with “Come Together” by The Beatles and mostly features British groups and artists. The 27-song playlist includes Coldplay, David Bowie, Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding, George Ezra, Harry Styles, Queen, Jeff Beck, Rod Stewart, Sam Ryder, the Spice Girls, The Kinks, The Who and Tom Jones. In a fitting touch, the mix closes with “King” by Years & Years.

Buckingham Palace announced in October 202 that the coronation of King Charles, 74, and Queen Camilla, 75, would be held on the first Saturday in May. The royal couple will be crowned in a religious ritual by the Archbishop of Canterbury at Westminster Abbey and will step out with other members of the royal family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace following the service.

The following day, people across the U.K. are encouraged to get together with neighbors for Coronation Big Lunch parties. Originally conceived by the Eden Project, the event is intended to “boost community spirit, reduce loneliness and support charities and good causes.”

That evening, the Coronation Concert will be broadcast live from Windsor Castle. Though the performer lineup has yet to be announced, the palace has previously said the concert will welcome “global music icons and contemporary stars” supported by a world-class orchestra and dancers.

Free pairs of tickets will be made available to the public via national ballot, and the concert will also be attended by volunteers from some of the King and Queen Consort’s charity affiliations. Synchronized with the show, “Lighting up the Nation” will see iconic locations across the U.K. illuminated with projections, lasers and drone displays. King Charles and Queen Camilla. The celebrations wrap with a bang on Monday, May 8, which Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has declared a bank holiday. U.K. citizens are invited to participate in the Big Help Out, a volunteering initiative, and give their time to good causes.

  • 2 French journalists prosecuted for “blackmail” against the king

2 French journalists prosecuted for “blackmail” against the king

Two French journalists were charged on Monday with trying to extort the King of Morocco in 2015. The charges against them were later reduced to one year in prison with a suspended sentence and a 15,000 euro fine, but the defendants maintain that the proposed financial arrangement originated in Rabat.

“Where’s the blackmail, Mr President?”, defended Éric Laurent, former reporter for Radio France and Figaro Magazine and author of numerous books, accused of having demanded 2 million euros to give up publishing embarrassing information.

The ex-journalist, now 75, recognizes before the Paris Criminal Court “an ethical error”, “a shipwreck” for having “agreed to (s) get involved in this case”, but not ” any criminal offence”.

The Moroccan emissary “seduced me with his financial offer, I plunged and I deplore it”, abounds the other defendant Catherine Graciet , 48, author of books on the Maghreb and Libya

Already authors in 2012 of a book on Mohammed VI , “The predatory king”, the two journalists had signed a contract with Le Seuil for a second volume on the same subject.

On July 23, 2015, Éric Laurent contacted the private secretariat of the King of Morocco to request an appointment, organized on August 11 in a Parisian palace with an emissary of the monarchy, the lawyer Hicham Naciri.

“I describe the contents of the book to him”, which plans to evoke tensions in the royal family and accusations of financial embezzlement involving public companies in the country, says Éric Laurent, seated on a chair at the bar of the court.

“Me Naciri said to me: all that does not suit us, and very quickly we switch to a transaction. He is the one who proposes”, he says. _”_ That’s not how it happened,” replies Ralph Boussier, one of the lawyers for the Moroccan state, for whom it is indeed Mr Laurent who “referred to an arrangement” .

The book project “never existed, they have no element to write it (…) The revelations that will shake the kingdom of Morocco: where are they? There is nothing”, he argues, believing that the two journalists saw in an attempt at blackmail “an opportunity” to “change your life”.

After this meeting, Morocco filed a complaint. An investigation is ongoing,  the two other meetings are organized, on August 21 and 27.

At the last, in the presence of Catherine Graciet, the two journalists sign an agreement to withdraw the book project against 2 million euros. Before being arrested with each 40,000 euros in cash. They then learn that the three encounters were recorded by the king’s emissary.

Faced with the transcript of the first meeting, where he seems to be actively offering a sum, Mr Laurent sweeps away: “this recording is a fake”.

An expert recognized that the copy given to the investigators had undergone “a post-processing, impossible to specify”, but the defence appeals deeming it illegal were rejected in 2017.

“There is no evidence that this recording has been modified, fragmented or that there has been an assembly”, underlines the prosecutor.

The decision will be made on March 14.

  • Asantehene must organize Queen Elizabeth’s funeral else they will ruin it – Diana Asamoah

Gospel music and minister of the gospel, Diana Asamoah has made a plea to Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to take charge of the burial and funeral service of the late British monarch, Queen of Elizabeth II.

The queen who reigned for 70 years passed away on September 8 at age 96. The world and its leaders have mourned Queen Elizabeth, the longest-serving British monarch.

Reacting to the news of her death and plans for her final funeral rites, Diana Asamoah in a video shared on TikTok just a day after the queen’s passing requested that Ghana’s president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Chief of Staff, Frema Opare ensured that Asantehene took charge of the burial since the Ashanti Region holds the record as the best funeral organizers in the country and the world at large.

“Dear Ghanaians and people worldwide, Africa, we all know what has happened to us. We are saddened by what has happened to the United Kingdom. Their Queen has been called to eternity by God. She lived a good life from which we all benefited.

“I just have a little plea to make to our King, Asantehene, Osei Tutu II, President Akufo-Addo and Frema Opare,” she said in the video that captured her in a black dress.

The gospel explained that in 2021, the funeral of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, husband of the late Queen wasn’t befitting for his status as a British royal reason why Asantehene must be handed over that duty.

“We all witnessed the great and befitting funeral organized for the late Asantehemaa. I say that we weren’t impressed with the funeral of Queen Elizabeth’s late husband…as for the Queen’s funeral, I am on my knees begging the Asantehene to take over the organization.

“It is a fact that we the Ashantis are the best organizers of funerals, so I plead with Asantehene to take over. The late Queen is a royal and so, we the Ashantis should give her a befitting burial…I am even prepared to sponsor it. Please act on it else they will ruin it. I thank you in advance for considering my request,” Diana Asamoah concluded in her message to Otumfuo.

Meanwhile, the Manhyia Palace in a Twitter post on September 9, mourned the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
