Bono NPP Chairman Abronye reportedly detained by police

The police has reportedly arrested the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye. Circumstances surrounding his arrest is yet to be made known.

However, reports indicate that, on Sunday, September 8, armed police officers stormed the residence of former NPP Youth Organiser, Moses Abor, in search of Abronye.

Last week, Abronye made headlines after he formally wrote to eight different countries, including Côte d’Ivoire, the United States, France, Italy, Canada, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Germany seeking for protection over his safety in Ghana.

Defending his reason for seeking asylum, he added that “consistent, escalating political persecution, threats to my life, and systemic abuse of state security powers by the current Government of Ghana”.

Abronye’s arrest comes days after the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) held into custody the presidential candidate and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo for  alleged financial misappropriation and other related misconduct.

On Wednesday, September 3, Kofi Akpaloo was picked up at his residence in Kumasi by EOCO officials for interrogation. Mr Akpaloo vied for presidency in the 2024 general elections. Prior to the election, Akpaloo expressed strong confidence in his chances for a decisive win, predicting victory over major contenders.

However, he obtained 5,219 being 0.09%. Recently, EOCO has given much attention to investigating high-profile political figures and business leaders.

The Economic and Organised Crime Office was established by the Economic and Organised Crime Office Act , 2010 (Act 804) as a specialized agency to monitor and investigate economic and organised crime and on the authority of the Attorney-General prosecute these offenses to recover the proceeds of crime and provide for related matters.

The EOCO has similar mandates to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). Recently, the OSP released a fifty-page report covering investigations and prosecutions carried out between January 1 and July 31 this year.

The OSP’s Seventh Half-yearly Report is pursuant to Section 3(3) of the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2017 (Act 959). The document also outlines key developments in the Office’s operations.

According to the OSP, despite resistance from powerful interests, it stayed focused on executing its mandate during this period. As such, the Office successfully progressed significant corruption-related investigations to the stage of court proceedings, while also initiating new inquiries into suspected acts of corruption.

“Then again, the Office, as one of three implementing partners of the new National Ethics and Anti-Corruption Strategy and Implementing Plan, is fashioning and moulding anti-corruption structures that would stand the test of time. The task ahead remains formidable. Much more so is our resolve to perform.

“This reporting period was characterised by intensification of the Office’s prosecutorial mandate. We advanced high-profile investigations to court and initiated bold inquiries into suspected corruption, often in the face of deep-seated resistance from entrenched interests.

“Notwithstanding these expected challenges, the Office remains resolute and guided by the rule of law, fairness, firmness, evidence-based action, and the interest of the public. We recognise that the fight against corruption cannot be waged and won only through punitive action and incarceration,” parts of the report read.

The legislative framework of the Office of the Special Prosecutor mandates the Authority to crack down on corruption, recover assets, and confiscate illicit property.

“Indeed, the legislative set-up of the Office leans heavily on corruption-prevention and asset recovery and disgorgement of tainted property. Consequently, we proceed on sustainable anti-corruption outcomes by pairing enforcement with robust prevention and asset recovery, especially founded on our unique plea bargaining regime.

In this spirit, the Office scaled up its preventive mandate through active engagement with public institutions, private sector actors, civil society- and secured convictions and asset recovery through impactful plea bargaining. We also reckon that the nation’s anti-corruption legal framework requires re-imagination, modernisation and retooling to address the immense scale and complexity of modern corruption in the context of our social, economic and political constructs.

“On this score, the Office has proposed the inclusion of a new chapter in the Constitution dedicated to the fight against corruption through definitive constitutional expression by the institution of proposed concrete measures to effectively and comprehensively suppress and repress corruption in public life as well as in the private sector chief among which include lifestyle audit non-conviction-based asset recovery, enhanced asset declaration and verification regime, and reverse onus presumption of corruption as the foundation of both anti-corruption criminal proceedings and civil asset recovery proceedings,” parts of the report added.

The Office is also leading the charge in respect of the passage of a comprehensive Corrupt Practices Act and Conduct of Public Officers Act.

Currently, sixty-seven(67) cases are being handled by the Office, all of which are undergoing comprehensive review.

The corruption cases being investigated by OSP include: Minerals Income Investment Fund, Ghana Airports Company Limited, Ghana Education Service, National Commission on Culture, Ghana Revenue Authority/Tata Consulting Services, National Service Authority, Ministry of Health/Service Ghana Auto Group Limited, National Cathedral.

The others are: Tema oil refinery and Tema Energy and Processing Limited and the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited, State lands, Stool lands, and other Vested lands, Illegal Mining, National Sports Authority, Customs Division of Ghana Revenue Authority, Bank of Ghana and Estate of Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie, alias Sir John.

It further hinted that “There were seven (7) convictions and one (1) acquittal in respect of the cases pending before the criminal courts during the period under review. The Office has filed an appeal in respect of the case in which the accused was acquitted.

Additionally, one hundred and fifty-two (152) cases are at the preliminary investigation stage, with the OSP assuring that details will be made public once they progress to the next stage.

The Office is also seized with one hundred and fifty-two (152) other cases at the preliminary investigation stage. These may be publicised if the Special Prosecutor determines that they are within the mandate of the Office and that they should be moved past the preliminary investigation stage.

This is a policy intended to protect the privacy of individuals and the business operations of institutions and companies, and to avoid unnecessary stigmatization.

Don’t grant visas to persons who will disrupt December polls – Kofi Akpaloo to European Embassies

Presidential candidate for the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, has called on European embassies to implement visa bans on individuals who cause disruptions during the upcoming December 7 elections.

He argued that such measures would serve as a deterrent to electoral misconduct, preventing offenders from leaving the country.

This request comes in response to the United States’ recent decision to impose visa restrictions on individuals who undermine Ghana’s democratic processes. The policy, which was announced on October 28, 2024, focuses on specific individuals rather than targeting the entire population or government, as outlined in Section 212(a)(3)(C) of the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act.

Speaking to the press, Akpaloo revealed that he had personally approached U.S. Ambassador Virginia Evelyn Palmer, urging her to encourage European embassies to adopt similar policies. He believes such actions would enhance the credibility of Ghana’s electoral process and foster accountability among all parties involved.

“Looking at the way things are going, I think this election is going to be more peaceful. Recently, we all heard from the American Embassy that anybody who is going to cause chaos will be denied a Visa to travel outside the country.

“I spoke to the American ambassador as I was seated beside her to ask the European counterpart to also issue the same statement and she said yes, she is going to do that very soon, and she believes the British high commission is going to follow suit”.

  • How will votes for Akua Donkor be treated in light of her passing? – Akpaloo to EC

How will votes for Akua Donkor be treated in light of her passing? – Akpaloo to EC

The presidential candidate for the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Mr. Kofi Akpaloo, has expressed concern over the late Madam Akua Donkor’s photo appearing on the presidential election ballot for December 7, 2024.

He described it as unfortunate and reiterated his call for the Electoral Commission to issue new ballot papers excluding her photo, as she represented the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP).

Speaking in an interview on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mr. Akpaloo dismissed the argument that reprinting the ballots would incur additional costs for the country.

He emphasized that preserving Akua Donkor’s image on the ballot could potentially influence the results of the election.

The LPG presidential candidate further noted that if a new candidate had been officially approved to take her place, the Electoral Commission would have had no choice but to print new ballots.

“Including Akua Donkor’s picture on the ballot paper will cause problems. Given that Akua Donkor is no longer alive, how will her votes be counted in the presidential polls, which are calculated by percentage?

Should votes cast for her be nullified or counted? We recommend the EC reprint ballot papers excluding Akua Donkor’s picture to prevent a losing candidate from contesting the results based on percentage discrepancies.”

Will we vote and count votes for a ghost? Those who claim this would be expensive have no idea what they are saying. Why are we rushing around and refusing to do what is right? The best way to deal with this is to exclude her from the ballot. These are some of the things we should not encourage, especially as we litigate every aspect of our electoral processes.

Whatever the case may be, we are going to spend money, so we should do the right thing and print a new ballot without her photo. Is this how we will handle the situation if someone from the NDC or NPP dies? We should not deal with this with our emotions but with the law.”

  • Elections integrity is important; EC must forget about money and reprint the ballots – Kofi Akpaloo

Elections integrity is important; EC must forget about money and reprint the ballots – Kofi Akpaloo

The presidential candidate of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, has urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to reprint the 2024 presidential ballot papers, raising concerns over the inclusion of the late Akua Donkor, former candidate of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP).

Mr. Akpaloo argues that the presence of Akua Donkor’s image on the ballot could mislead voters and influence the election results.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, November 13, he emphasized that featuring the deceased candidate could create confusion and possibly lead to disputes regarding the election outcome.

“Having a ballot paper with Akua Donkor’s picture is going to create a whole lot of problems in the country. People are going to vote for Akua Donkor, of whom we are all aware that she is not alive,” Mr. Akpaloo stated. “Are we going to say that those votes cast for her will be ignored, or are they going to be counted? We don’t want a situation where a losing candidate might challenge the results because of percentages.”

The LPG flagbearer also questioned the EC’s decision not to reprint ballots, noting that if a new GFP flagbearer had been approved, the EC would have reprinted the ballots to reflect the change. He suggested that allowing Akua Donkor’s image to remain on the ballot could set a problematic precedent for future elections.

“Leaving her image on the ballot raises questions about the electoral process’s integrity and would certainly affect voter perceptions,” he argued. He further pointed out that the EC should not be deterred by financial concerns if the reprint is necessary to uphold electoral integrity.

The EC has yet to respond to Mr. Akpaloo’s call, which adds to the discourse around the upcoming December election.

“They should forget about the money involved, let’s do the right thing that would create a peaceful environment in this country,” he said.

He further argued that there would be no need for re-balloting.

“No, we don’t need the re-ballloting. It’s like when you take the Parliamentary arrangement. If a party is not presenting a candidate in a particular constituency, that place is removed and it is pushed up, so the same thing applies here. So far as they (GFP) are not contesting this election, all that we have to do is take their portion out and push the position up”.

He said although he was not personally present at yesterday’s Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting, his General Secretary raised these concerns but they were not heeded to by the EC.

Mr. Akpaloo added that he was considering seeking legal redress over the EC’s decision.

Akua Donkor’s face on ballot papers will create electoral controversy – Kofi Akpaloo

Flagbearer of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to reprint the presidential ballot papers for the 2024 elections, expressing concerns over the inclusion of deceased Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) candidate, Akua Donkor.

Akpaloo argues that featuring Akua Donkor’s image on the ballot could impact the election outcome, potentially causing confusion among voters.

“Having a ballot paper with Akua Donkor’s picture is going to create a whole lot of problems in the country. People are going to vote for Akua Donkor, of whom we are all aware that she is not alive, so how are they going to do the counting? Because with the presidential polls, we do the calculations based on the percentage garnered by each candidate,” Akpaloo stated at a press conference on Wednesday, November 13.

He further explained, “Are we going to say that those votes that were cast for her will be taken off the ballot or are they going to be counted? We don’t want a situation whereby a losing candidate will say he will not accept the results because of percentages, and so we are asking the EC to reprint new ballot papers without Akua Donkor’s picture on them.”

Electoral Commission of Ghana has clarified the decision to retain the image of the late Akua Donkor on the presidential ballot paper for the 2024 presidential election.

During an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, the Chairperson, Jean Mensa, explained that although Akua Donkor has passed away and Philip Appiah Kubi, the replacement flagbearer for the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), has been disqualified due to errors and alleged irregularities discovered in his nomination documents, the Commission has chosen not to reorder the ballot positions to avoid delays and additional costs associated with reprinting.

“We are almost 90 percent complete with the printing of presidential ballots, and you are also aware that following the passing of Madam Akua Donkor, we requested the printing houses to cease printing until the law had taken its course.

“Now that the presidential candidate has been disqualified, the Commission wants to inform you that the positions will proceed on the current ballot as it is in the interest of time and to save this country millions of cedis,” she stated.

Akpaloo however emphasizes that a reprint would not only uphold the integrity of the ballot but also eliminate any grounds for post-election disputes tied to this issue.

He added that if a new GFP candidate had been approved, the EC would have made the necessary adjustments to the ballot, underscoring the need for similar action in light of Donkor’s passing.

Akua Donkor died on Monday, October 28, 2024, at Ridge Hospital in Accra, just weeks before the nation’s general elections.

At a press conference on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, Akpaloo argued that Donkor’s presence on the ballot could skew the election results.

He pointed out that had a new GFP flagbearer been selected to run, the Electoral Commission (EC) would have been required to reprint the ballots to reflect that change.

He stressed that reprinting the ballot papers is crucial to maintaining the integrity of the election and avoiding any confusion among voters.

“Having a ballot paper with Akua Donkor’s picture is going to create a whole lot of problems in the country. The Liberal Party of Ghana’s (LPG) presidential candidate, Kofi Akpaloo, has expressed strong confidence in his chances for a decisive win in the 2024 elections, predicting victory over major contenders.

He urged voters to move past the traditional appeal of the NPP’s Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the NDC’s John Dramani Mahama, highlighting his policies as the blueprint for a transformative Ghana.

In an interview on Channel One TV’s Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu, Akpaloo said he is unfazed by the crowd sizes at NPP and NDC rallies, believing Ghanaians are ready for a fresh direction under his leadership.

“He pointed out that the enthusiasm for change would carry him to victory, adding, “The people want real solutions, and I am here to deliver.”

“I won’t be surprised that I will win this election. I will win the elections 100%. Forget about the crowd the NPP or NDC are pulling, forget about them.

“At the end of the day, the people, are going to cast their votes. Because of what I saw in my dreams in 2010, I can see it now. Vote LPG, vote Kofi Akpaloo because I’m the only person who can transform this country.”

Ghanaian child below 18 will receive GHC500 monthly if elected – Akpaloo

Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) presidential candidate Kofi Akpaloo has pledged significant financial support for Ghanaian citizens, vowing to deliver monthly allowances of GHC500 for children under 18 and GHC700 for unemployed adults.

In an interview on Channel One TV’s Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu, Akpaloo shared his vision for direct financial relief, urging Ghanaians to elect him in the December elections.

“When they vote for me, I’m going to put money directly into people’s pockets. Every child in Ghana below the age of 18 years will receive a monthly child benefit of GHC500.

“Those who are above 18 years, who are unemployed, will be given income support of GHC700,  then we are going to amend SSNIT law, so that those of you who are working when you lose your job, SSNIT will pay you unemployment benefits.”

He also promised income support of GHC700 for unemployed individuals over 18.

Mr Akpaloo further proposed amending the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) law to provide unemployment benefits for workers who lose their jobs, creating a more secure safety net for Ghanaians.

  • Mahama will lose Volta Region votes to me – Akpaloo

Mahama will lose Volta Region votes to me – Akpaloo

The Flagbearer of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Agbenu Akpaloo, has boldly declared that his party will secure more votes in the Volta Region than the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming elections.

Akpaloo emphasized that the NDC no longer holds the dominance it once had in the region.

“NDC has no stronghold in the Volta Region anymore. Oh yes, I can tell you I will beat the NDC in the Volta Region,” he said.

He expressed strong belief in his party’s rising influence in the Volta Region, an area traditionally viewed as an NDC stronghold. He pointed to the large turnout at LPG’s recent event in Ho as evidence of the party’s growing popularity.

As a native of the Volta Region, Akpaloo believes his local roots and his position as the only presidential candidate from the region will work to his advantage.

He also drew attention to his number five position on the ballot paper, which he feels resonates with the Volta Region. “I’m the only Voltarian in this race, and number five. Number five spells V-O-L-T-A, Volta, the first Voltarian to be here,” he explained.

Mr Akpaloo’s optimism stems from the overwhelming support seen during LPG’s manifesto launch in the Volta Region, which, according to him, demonstrated the party’s strong foothold and his belief in victory over the NDC.

“Over there, you would have noticed that the turnout was fantastic. People didn’t believe that LPG would draw such a large crowd for an event of that nature in Ho, because they think it’s an NDC stronghold,” he said.

  • Kofi Akpaloo vows to increase betting tax from 10-60%

Kofi Akpaloo vows to increase betting tax from 10-60%

Kofi Akpaloo, the Presidential Aspirant for the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), has vowed to significantly raise the betting tax rate from 10% to 60% if elected in the upcoming December 7 elections.

Akpaloo emphasized that his administration would prioritize job creation to employ the youth, while also eliminating distractions like sports betting that he believes detract from productive work.

In an interview on Hitz FM’s Cruise Control on August 29, Akpaloo argued that sports betting does not constitute hard work or a reliable way to earn money. By increasing the tax, he hopes to discourage participation in betting activities.

“I didn’t say I am going to cancel it [betting tax]. I said if I have my way, I will increase the tax to discourage them [youth]. If they will, maybe 60% at least. I want to give them jobs to do so that they focus,” he said.

Kofi Akpaloo’s remarks come as a direct response to campaign promises made by the flagbearers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, both of whom have pledged to abolish the betting tax if elected.

While Dr. Bawumia and John Mahama have proposed eliminating the tax and exploring alternative solutions, Akpaloo contends that the most effective strategy is to deter young people from engaging in what he considers unwise investments, such as sports betting.

He believes that raising the tax would help steer the youth away from gambling and towards more productive pursuits.

Ghana’s elections more credible than Europe’s – Kofi Akpaloo

Leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, has asserted that Ghana’s elections are more reliable than those in many developed nations.

He argues that no one, including the Electoral Commission, has the capability to manipulate the elections in favor of any party.

“Now, we have a biometric verification device to check voters before they cast their ballot, so how can someone steal an election?

The Ghanaian media keenly follows the election from the beginning to the end, so how can someone steal the election? Anyone who thinks an election can be rigged in Ghana has a small mind.

Elections in Ghana are more credible than in Europe. With the eyes that are keenly monitoring the election, including the media, who can steal the election? Who is the EC to rig an election, and who will the EC rig the elections for?” he asked.

This statement comes amid ongoing accusations from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), which has claimed that the Jean Mensa-led Electoral Commission is scheming to rig the forthcoming election in favor of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). The Commission has strongly refuted these allegations.

During the Democracy Cup presentation by Parliament’s leadership in Accra last Wednesday, Electoral Commission Chairperson Jean Mensa assured the public of fair elections and urged all political parties to respect the results of the 2024 general elections.

The NDC has criticized Mensa’s comments.

In an interview on the Ghana Kasa show on Kasapa 102.5FM/Agoo TV, Kofi Akpaloo expressed confusion over the controversy surrounding the EC Chairperson’s remarks.

“It is only in Africa that we always have election result disputes. Go to the grassroots, go on the field—that is where you will get your votes and convince people to vote for you come the December 7 election.

Elections are not about being rowdy and resorting to violence. Who can rig either the Presidential or Parliamentary election in Ghana?

Has EC Boss Jean Mensa rigged an election for anyone before? We have no evidence to suggest that the EC boss may rig the election in someone’s favor. Let nobody deceive you—nobody can rig elections in Ghana. The days of elections being rigged, as happened in 2012, are fast gone.

The Leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, has asserted that elections in Ghana are more credible than those in many advanced countries.

He insists that no one in Ghana, including the Electoral Commission, can manipulate election results to favor any political party.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has frequently accused the Jean Mensa-led Electoral Commission of conspiring to rig the upcoming crucial election in favor of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), an allegation that the Commission has firmly denied.

Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, assured last Wednesday during the presentation of the Democracy Cup to the EC by the leadership of Parliament in Accra that the elections would be transparent and urged political parties to accept the results of the 2024 general elections.

The NDC reacted strongly to the EC Chairperson’s remarks.

Speaking on the Ghana Kasa show on Kasapa 102.5FM/Agoo TV on Monday, Kofi Akpaloo expressed bewilderment over the controversy surrounding the EC Boss’s statement.

“It is only in Africa that we always have election result disputes. Govt has awarded me some contracts, but… – Watch Kofi Akpaloo and Captain Smart ‘battle’ it out on Onua TV

In a gripping interview on Onua TV’s morning show ‘Onua Maakye,’ Kofi Akpaloo, the founder of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), faced a series of pointed questions from media personality Captain Smart.

The discussion, centred on the government’s performance and potential improvements, took a turn when Captain Smart inquired about Akpaloo’s personal gain from government contracts.

Initially hesitant, Akpaloo confirmed he had indeed been awarded contracts but avoided detailing them. The interview spiraled into a back-and-forth, with Captain Smart persistently questioning the completion status of these contracts, while Akpaloo’s responses remained vague, stating, “I am done with what I am done with, and what I am not done with, I am not done with it.”

The conversation took another twist as Akpaloo clarified that the government had not directly handed him any contracts; instead, he had secured them through competitive bidding. “Government has not given me anything. People should get this. I am a businessman. Listen, there are two things. We have the one where government will ask an individual or an entity to straight away handle a particular project, and we have the one where you will apply in a competitive bidding, and then you are selected,” he explained.

Under pressure, Akpaloo finally disclosed working for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), supplying transformers and other items under his company, Kelvin Platinum. “I can recall the number of transformers I supplied. The total amount for that contract was about $1.9 million dollars,” he revealed.

The interview escalated when Captain Smart questioned Akpaloo about other completed government contracts.

Akpaloo, in turn, questioned the scrutiny over his business dealings in Ghana, asserting his right to conduct business in the country.

Captain Smart countered, highlighting his journalistic duty to investigate government expenditures, especially concerning taxpayer money. He emphasized the need for accountability from Akpaloo, who aspires to be president, to the Ghanaian people.

The full intensity of the debate can be experienced in the video of the interview, showcasing the fiery dialogue between Kofi Akpaloo and Captain Smart.

The founder and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, has confidently declared his intention to emerge victorious in the 2024 elections.

He firmly believed that he possesses the solutions to the nation’s numerous challenges.

In an interview on Onua TV on April 17, 2024, Akpaloo expressed his unwavering determination to become President of Ghana, asserting that nothing will deter him from achieving this goal.

Despite acknowledging the established strength of the major political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Akpaloo is undaunted.

He attributed his confidence to his unwavering faith in the Holy Spirit and his conviction that his leadership will bring about transformative change.

“I will win the 2024 elections, I have been prepared to be President of Ghana, and nothing will stop that. Forget about the strength of the NPP and the strength of the NDC; everybody knows those two are strong parties.

“I don’t doubt it, but I have one thing within me, and that thing is the Holy Spirit, and I know I will win the elections,” he said in an interview on Onua TV on April 17, 2024.

I have still not been paid for the money I borrowed to initiate road projects – Kofi Akpaloo

The Founder and Leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Percival Kofi Akpaloo, has revealed that he has accrued significant debts due to the government’s failure to settle arrears for road construction contracts.

He explained that he had obtained loans from financial institutions to undertake various construction projects, but the government has not fulfilled its payment obligations.

In an exclusive interview with 3news, Mr. Akpaloo expressed frustration over the situation, stating that the road projects he initiated in the Bono, Ahafo, and Ashanti regions are more than 60% complete but remain unpaid for.

“We’ve been doing it. We did not get finance from the state or from the agency. We used our own resources to do them, but it’s not been paid. I’ve done it with my money.”

“I borrowed money from the bank to do them, but I’ve not been paid so I’m owing the bank,” he disclosed on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.

“We’ve been doing it. We did not get finance from the state or from the agency. We used our own resources to do them, but it’s not been paid. I’ve done it with my money,” he disclosed on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.

When questioned about the amount owed by the government, Kofi Akpaloo stated that he could not provide exact figures without documentation but reiterated that he is expecting payment.

Kofi Akpaloo declined to provide an exact amount owed by the government, citing the lack of documentation at his disposal.

“I cannot be able to tell you the exact figures, but they owe me so I’m expecting them to pay. Some [of the projects] are about 70 percent, some about 65 percent but they’ve not been paid. One is Ahafo, one is Bono, one is Ashanti,” he emphasised.

Despite facing criticism regarding the circumstances under which he secured the contracts, Akpaloo maintains that he is capable of delivering high-quality road projects.

Renowned for his ‘sɔme ha, na sɔme ha’ slogan, Kofi Akpaloo expressed confidence in winning the 2024 presidential election.

He founded the Independent People’s Party (IPP) in 2011 but was unable to contest in the 2012 and 2016 elections. Despite legal challenges to his nominations, he established the Liberal Party of Ghana in 2017 and participated in the 2020 elections.

“So far as I’m a Ghanaian… I qualify for anything, you understand. But there are a lot of contractors who are not Ghanaians, they are foreign nationals. So everybody is working.”

“It’s not about the party you affiliate with or you don’t affiliate with. It’s about you being able to have the capacity to deliver. That is what is the most important thing,” he added.

Voting Mahama, Bawumia or Alan will leave you disappointed – Akpaloo to youth

Founder and head of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Percival Kofi Akpaloo, has cautioned young Ghanaians against supporting any presidential candidate other than his.

He has warned that another term for either the New Patriotic Party (NPP) or the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would result in disappointment.

Mr Akpaloo, known for his ‘sɔme ha, na sɔme ha’ catchphrase, believes it’s time to break the NPP-NDC dominance and secure victory after previous unsuccessful attempts.

“You need somebody who will come and add value to our natural resources; somebody who will produce to meet our needs. So, the young people, you’ll be disappointed voting for them.”

“If you are thinking you’re going to get a job when you vote Mahama or you vote Bawumia or you vote Alan Kyerematen, you’ll be disappointed. The only person who can support you to get your jobs to do is Kofi Akpaloo”.

In an interview with TV3 on Tuesday, April 16, Akpaloo emphasized the need for someone who would enhance the nation’s natural resources and produce to meet its needs.

Although he founded the Independent People’s Party (IPP) in 2011, Mr Akpaloo was unable to contest in the 2012 and 2016 elections and unsuccessfully challenged the rejection of his nominations in court.

After the dissolution of IPP, he established the Liberal Party of Ghana in 2017 and participated in the 2020 elections, expressing confidence in winning the December 7 elections.

Regarding the 24-hour economy policy proposed by the NDC, Mr Akpaloo has dismissed it as a mere slogan lacking substantive details and relevance.

“The people are receiving our message very well. So, it’s more or less like we are still in the structuring, building process. We are building our structures to make sure we have formidable force,” he said.

He believes it’s not worth pursuing, as it fails to address the specific needs and services required during nighttime hours.

  • Unemployed, children will receive monthly allowances from me if elected president – Akpaloo

The Presidential Candidate of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Percival Kofi Akpaloo, has pledged to provide every Ghanaian child with a monthly allowance if elected as President.

Mr Akpaloo envisions significant economic transformation for Ghana should he assume office.

Speaking to Kwadwo Oppong Kyeremeh, Akpaloo emphasized his commitment to distributing monthly allowances to every Ghanaian child, drawing inspiration from similar initiatives benefiting his own children abroad. He believes this measure will stabilize the economy, fostering prosperity by enabling citizens to actively participate in economic activities.

Akpaloo asserts that this initiative isn’t limited to children but extends to unemployed individuals, providing them with financial support until they secure employment. He reiterated his longstanding promise to implement these measures during an interview on the Angel Morning Show (AMS), emphasizing their alignment with the LPG’s manifesto, “A Better Tomorrow, A New Plan for Jobs and Wealth Creation.”

Akpaloo’s vision reflects a holistic approach to social welfare, aiming to improve the lives of Ghanaians across various demographics. If elected, he intends to prioritize these initiatives to pave the way for a brighter future for all citizens.

“In the first place, if elected as President as revealed to me by God, I will pay every Ghanaian child monthly allowance as my six children are benefiting elsewhere in the diaspora.

“Every child will be paid monthly, and this will make the economy stable so that businesses can flourish because once there is money for every citizen they can as equally patronize goods and items from traders,” he told Kwadwo Oppong Kyeremeh.

“Again, as done in abroad, I will pay every Ghanaian who is unemployed and is 18 years and above including the aged who cannot work in their capacity will be paid monthly,” he added.

  • A president in his right frame of mind would never sign anti-gay bill – Kofi Akpaloo

A president in his right frame of mind would never sign anti-gay bill – Kofi Akpaloo

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has sparked discussions on X after announcing the suspension of the approval process for newly-vetted ministers nominated by the president.

Bagbin’s decision, made on March 20, came in response to a presidential directive instructing Parliament to hold off on forwarding the bill on Human Sexual Rights and Family Values to the president for assent. This directive was issued pending the Supreme Court’s determination of cases related to the anti-gay bill.

The Speaker’s move has triggered various reactions, with Attorney-General Godfred Dame suggesting that Bagbin may have been misled or misinformed in making his decision.

On X, users have been actively sharing their views on this matter, making the Speaker’s actions a trending topic.

“In the circumstance, you are kindly requested to cease and desist from transmitting the bill to the President until the matter before the Supreme Court is resolved,” Mr. Bediatuo stated.

Numerous Members of Parliament have voiced their discontent regarding the directive from the Presidency, with former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu labelling the letter as a threat to Ghana’s democratic principles.

During a discussion on Ghana Kasa on Kasapa 102.5FM, Kofi Akpaloo remarked that President Akufo-Addo should refrain from signing the bill at this particular juncture.

“I’m not sure anybody in his right sense occupying the seat President Akufo-Addo is currently sitting on, will sign the anti-LGBT bill. The country’s economy is now recovering from the devastation caused by COVID-19, and the negative effects of the Russia-Ukraine war on our economy. There’s too much hardship in the country.”

“You recall the threat issued by the US Ambassador when the bill was passed in Parliament. We are not self-sufficient as a country, we depend on others to survive. I don’t support anyone practising LGBTQ activities, however, we should not do things out of emotions.

Have you ever heard that Saudi Arabia and Qatar which frown on LGBTQ activities have ever gone for a loan from any country before? As a country, let us put our things right economically, then any president can boldly and fearlessly sign the bill into law.”

In addition, Mr Akpaloo accuses the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of vandalizing his campaign posters in the Volta Region.

AFCON 2023: Black Stars giving poor display purposely to push coach’s sacking – Kofi Akpaloo

Presidential candidate for the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, has made bold allegations, accusing the current Black Stars players participating in the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) of conspiring to push out coach Chris Hughton.

Akpaloo’s claims follow the national team’s lacklustre performance in their opening match against Cape Verde, resulting in a 2-1 defeat.

Expressing his dissatisfaction with the team’s dedication and display, Akpaloo suggested that the overseas-based players in the squad are intentionally working to subvert and oust Coach Hughton from his position.

In a strongly-worded statement, Akpaloo expressed his desire for a complete overhaul of the Black Stars, advocating for the inclusion of more locally-based players.

“It is my wish that we sack all the current Black Stars players and allow the local ones to play. We have overpampered these players, and as a result, they are not committed. Their deliberate attempt to get the coach sacked or sabotage him will not work,” declared Akpaloo.

The accusations surface amidst heightened scrutiny and criticism of the players following their disappointing start to AFCON 2023.

The Black Stars are gearing up for their crucial upcoming match against Egypt on Thursday, with the aim of recovering from their initial setback. As criticism of the team continues to grow, especially after their defeat to Cape Verde, the upcoming match provides an opportunity for redemption.

Kofi Akpaloo, leading the LPG into the 2024 general elections, expresses concerns not only about football matters but is also determined to break the political dominance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

  • Betting is an occupation- Kofi Akpaloo

Betting is an occupation- Kofi Akpaloo

Founder of the Liberal Party Ghana (LPG) Kofi Akpaloo has defended the government on its newly introduced tax on betting.

Speaking in an interview, he said the tax is a necessary measure since the government needs revenue to run the country.

He further asserted that once individuals earn from betting, then that constitutes an occupation and needs to be taxed.

“We need money to run the economy and betting is a chosen occupation for some people. Every occupation is an  occupation. Betting is an occupation. Once that’s what people have chosen to get money from, it’s an occupation,” he justified his comment.

“Once you stake the bet and win, you need to give the government its commission,” he added.

Mr Akplaoo was making the comment on the back of the government’s introduction of the tax on betting

The 10% levy slapped on earnings from betting received heavy backlash from the public domain. Regardless, the government ignored the calls for the tax to be withdrawn and implemented it.

There have been various justifications for the move, with one coming from Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who states that betting encourages laziness. Therefore, implementing the tax on it aims to discourage laziness.

Nevertheless, the youth stand firmly by their viewpoint. They argue that the government has not generated sufficient employment opportunities to assert that betting leads to laziness.

Speaking on the development, Mr Akpaloo noted that sensitisation has been low.

“Education on the tax policy is low and the matter has been politicized and so people are not aware of the truth regarding the matter,” he added.

Unemployed youth will receive support under my tenure – Kofi Akpaloo

Head of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, has pledged to provide unemployment benefits to the youth if he emerges winner in the 2024 general elections.

Speaking with the media on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, the former LPG presidential candidate highlighted the long-standing neglect of Ghanaian youth and his commitment to rectify the situation.

“The LPG will do something different, and we are going to make sure that we pay you unemployment benefits and support you with income to sustain the youth. We need to create an environment so that the young people in Ghana can make it and prosper.”

He outlined his plan to offer child benefits to those below eighteen and unemployment benefits to those above eighteen years of age.

Furthermore, Akpaloo expressed his intent to maintain the Free SHS policy while streamlining the management of education.

“We will merge JHS and SHS together to become one school such that we turn them into day schools. We don’t need boarding schools today to promote national cohesion because we have different tribes living in other regions,” he added.

  • Kofi Akpaloo accuses Sam George, others of promoting LGBTQ+ with reverse psychology

Kofi Akpaloo accuses Sam George, others of promoting LGBTQ+ with reverse psychology

Founder and leader of Ghana’s Liberal Party, Percival Kofi Akpaloo, has accused persons supporting the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill of inadvertently encouraging the engagement of the queer community.

The politician elaborated that Sam Nartey George, one of the key supporters of the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Cultural Values Bill, is employing a reverse psychology approach to persuade Ghanaians into thinking that the advocates are opposed to the LGBTQ+ community.

During an interview with Johnnie Hughes on 3FM Sunrise, Kofi Akpaloo claimed that the eight supporters of the anti-gay bill have been compromised with financial incentives to advance the activities of the LGBTQ+ community.

“They take money to come and promote something but to you, they start it from the opposite and when you look at it you say oh, these people are working for us. They are not working for you, they are rather promoting this,” he told Johnnie Hughes.

When questioned by Johnnie Hughes regarding whether Sam George, Ntim Fordjour, and other advocates of the anti-gay bill have received monetary compensation to promote the appeal of LGBTQ+ activities, Kofi Akpaloo confirmed their involvement in accepting such funds.

Additionally, the politician mentioned a billboard promoting LGBTQ+ tolerance that was installed along the Tema Motorway in June 2022, as well as Sam George’s response to it.

He stated that Sam George’s action of sharing a picture of the billboard on social media promoted the LGBTQ+ community more than it had ever been in Ghana.

“Let me tell you. When a gentleman went to Tema Motorway and then he said to him, I didn’t see anything because I have been driving on that stretch. But he said, oh, they erected some billboard and then he took a picture and posted it on the internet and it went viral. So, who is promoting what? Are you okay? He could have brought the thing down. If you think you hate it, you could have brought the thing down.

“Maybe, you even erected it and then you went there because we didn’t know who erected it. So, you did it and you took a picture and made noise out of it. Such that you see, people didn’t even know the colours of the LGBTQ. Are you okay? People didn’t even know the colours but the mere fact that you picked the picture and you started sharing them, who is promoting what?” he quizzed.

Akpaloo in the same vein concurred with Johnnie Hughes’s analysis of the anti-gay sponsors using reverse psychology on Ghanaians saying “Exactly! Fantastic! You have given me the right word. …My brother, I don’t want to use some words but the thing is that we need to open our minds big, you know, sometimes, people play on our minds. You know, if you are there, you might think the person is fighting for you but it is the other way round.”

    Background

The Promotion of Proper Sexual Human Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill was submitted to parliament by the Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Committee on March 31, 2023.

The Bill is a Private Members’ Bill sponsored by a bipartisan group of lawmakers and has passed the second reading in Parliament.

The eight MPs who sponsored the Bill are Sam Nartey George (MP, Ningo Prampram), Emmanuel Bedzrah (MP, Ho West) Della Adjoa Sowah (MP, Kpando), John Ntim Fordjour (MP, Assin South) – the sole NPP MP sponsoring the Bill.

The remaining sponsors are Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini (MP, Tamale North), Helen Adjoa Ntoso (MP, Krachi West), Rita Naa Odoley Sowah (MP, La Dadekotopon) and Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor (MP, South Dayi).

  • Kofi Akpaloo of LPG claims NPP and NDC spent money worth constructing 30 factories on Assin North by-election

Kofi Akpaloo of LPG claims NPP and NDC spent money worth constructing 30 factories on Assin North by-election

The founder and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, has criticized both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for their wasteful spending during the recent Assin North by-election.

According to him, both parties disappointed the country as the amount of money poured into the election campaign by both parties alone could have been used to construct 30 factories in the country.

“Both the NDC and NPP have let down the country. The amount of money they spent on this by-election alone can be used to build about 30 factories. They have really spent money,” he said.

He described scenes of people carrying money, seasoning cubes, and cement in broad daylight.

“You can find someone carrying ‘amane’ [herrings] on her head and you on top of it, you will find bundles of money being carried and is in full glare. A little after he or she will come back to collect Maggie seasoning cubes and salt, they really spent a lot.

“And for cement, it is as though they brought a cement factory into this constituency. In every environment in the constituency, you will find cement being shared. The NPPs were sharing, the same as the NDCs. This is the only job they came to do there.

Kofi Apkaloo also recounted witnessing a fight in Assin Bereku, with individuals claiming to have been cheated in the distribution of monies being given to them by the NPP and the NDC.

“Both the NPP and NDC have really paid huge sums of money in Assin North and none of them can deny that fact. This morning, I witnessed a fight here in Assin Bereku with some constituents claiming to have been cheated in sharing the money,” he added.

The Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) presented the only female to contest in the Assin North by-election. The candidate, Bernice Enyonam Sefenu, polled 87 votes representing 0.29 per cent out of 29,962 of the total valid vote cast.

  • Kofi Akpaloo says he will invest $1bn into Ghana football if voted as president

2020 Presidential aspirant, Kofi Akpaloo, has pledged to invest $1bn in Ghana’s football should he be given the nod as the President in 2024.

Akpaloo, who is also the founder of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), believes the football sector has not received enough financial support to be able to achieve its desired targets.

According to him, a better investment will make the Black Stars competitive enough to be able to challenge for the World Cup as well as also help to nurture young talents in the country as the team has been left to depend more on foreign-born players.

“When given the mantle to lead Ghana as President in 2025, I will invest hugely in football so we can build a solid team that can compete and win the competition (World Cup) for Ghana,” Akpaloo told Kumasi-based Akoma FM.

“I see football as a business, when you invest well into it, you reap huge returns with its attendant and employment benefit for the citizenry.”

“I will invest an amount of $1 billion into the GFA, so they can develop and nurture talents. This will be another avenue for employment.”

He added that not only will he pay attention to football, but he will also ensure that other sporting disciplines are factored into his administration if he is entrusted with power at the end of the 2024 elections.

“We must support colts football and grassroots athletics, and this can only be done by investing in sports,” he continued.

“My government will provide financial support every year to team owners from the lower division to the Premier League, boxing, and other sporting disciplines.”

“Football will be a priority for my government when given the mandate by Ghanaians.”

  • I’II implement child benefit policy if elected – Akpaloo

The Founder and 2020 Presidential Candidate of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, has indicated that a new government under his leadership will implement a child benefit policy to support children.

According to him, as part of the policy, every child would receive a monthly allowance of GH¢300, which would be paid either to their parents or guardians to support their upkeep.

“The allowance will be paid based upon the number of children a parent is having and if a parent is having, for instance, four children, each child will receive GH¢300 every month in line with the policy,” he said.

    Conference

Mr Akpaloo said this in an interview with a section of the media during the party’s regional conference in Bolgatanga.

Before the conference, Mr Akpaloo, who was accompanied by some leaders of the party, toured some of the constituencies to interact with party members and energised the party’s base as part of preparations for the 2024 general election.

As part of the conference, new constituency executives for the 15 constituencies in the region and new regional executives were sworn into office.

    Only 7.2 million children

Asked how a government he leads would find the money to implement the ambitious child benefit policy, he said, “The government will stimulate the economy to generate demand activities out of which taxes will be generated to implement the policy.”

He stated that paying monthly allowance to about 7.2 million children in the country was not a difficult thing to do, stressing “the total number of children is not overwhelming and that the LPG-led government will find the money to support their proper care”.

He stated that the policy was not difficult to implement and that the required policy framework will be put in place to ensure its smooth implementation and added “just as children in other advanced countries are paid monthly, we will learn from that system and do the same thing here”.

    New factories

He said a new LPG government would put in place a comprehensive plan towards revamping the defunct Pwalugu Tomato Factory and meat factory in the region to provide thousands of direct and indirect jobs to the youth.

Additionally, he disclosed that five new factories would be built in the region to improve its local economy for the benefit of the people, saying “at least $100 million will be needed to build each factory and that the government will find the money to build the factories”.

He explained that the establishment of the factories in the region would be a game changer, as it would provide decent jobs to the people, thereby preventing the youth in particular from migrating to the south in search of non-existent white-collar jobs.

    Change voting pattern

He appealed to Ghanaians to change their voting pattern of alternating between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) since both political parties had taken them for granted for a long time.

He indicated that the NPP and the NDC continue to deceive citizens when they win power and that it was time for Ghanaians to change their voting pattern to allow the LPG to steer the affairs of the country.

  • EC’s move to revoke licenses of 17 political parties long overdue- Kofi Akpaloo

The founder of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) has thrown his weight behind the Electoral Commission (EC)’s decision to revoke licenses some 17 political parties.

Mr Kofi Akpaloo said the decision is the right direction.

According to him, the move is “long overdue.”

Mr Akpaloo speaking on JoyNews’s The Probe on Sunday said he fully supports the EC.

To him, the Chairperson of the Commission and her deputy commissioners are discharging their mandate aptly.

“In fact, it is long overdue. I think we have to applaud this new EC. They are actually doing the work of the Electoral Commission. Since they took office, they have been asking us to make sure every year we file our audited accounts and now they have come back crack the whip my asking us to have offices across the country,” he stated.

According to the electoral management body, the 17 listed political parties have no national and regional offices as required by the Act governing political parties.

This was after it embarked on nationwide exercise to inspect the offices of all registered political parties in Ghana in May and June this year.

The EC subsequently invoked Section 15 (3) (c) of the Political Parties Act of 2000, Act 574, which mandates it to cancel the registration of Political Parties which do not have offices at the National and Regional levels.

    Affected political parties are:

    1. Democratic People’s Party (DPP)
    2. United Front Party (UFP)
    3. United Development System Party (UDSP)
    4. Every Ghanaian Living Everywhere (EGLE)

  • Agric minister: Sack him, he has run out of ideas – Kofi Akpaloo to Akufo-Addo

Founder and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG)Percival Kofi Akpaloo, has expressed doubts about the leadership skills of Agriculture Minister Owusu Afriyie Akoto in charge of the nation’s flagship Planting for Food and Jobs program.

He argued the sector minister has run out of ideas to add any progress to the development of the agricultural sector.

“There was a major problem with the prices of the raw materials, especially maize and soybean. Maize, for instance, went up by 100%, and then wheat and soybean all went up,” he said.

“Why must we import frozen chicken and maize while we can grow some in Ghana? President Akufo-Addo has to relieve him of his post, “Kofi Akpaloo exclusively told Accra-based Angel FM.

He further revealed that the Minister for Agriculture had disobeyed the president’s directives to save the local poultry industry.

President Akufo-Addo has often touted the progress of the planting for food and jobs programme, alluding to the feat it has achieved.

This, he said, is a complete misapplication of the subsidies.

He believes it would only be proper if the sector minister is relieved of his position.

  • It’s a small matter that the circumstances surrounding Aisha Haung’s case have been exaggerated – Kofi Akpaloo

Kofi Akpaloo, the founder and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), concurs with Aisha Huang’s attorney that “the issue is being overhyped.”

“My concern is that the media has overhyped this tiny subject of mining without a license and making mineral sales without a license,” claims Nkrabea Effah Dartey. It’s a little issue; in Ghana, it occurs daily.
I therefore fail to see the need for a media commentary on this subject. And that is what is causing the difficulty and adding all kinds of uncertainty to it.

Speaking on Kumasi-based Hello FM, Kofi Akpaloo claimed that the media was focusing excessively on Aisha Haung.

“We are spending too much time on trivial topics; this is being blown out of proportion. Why are we focusing on Aisha Haung so much? “He pointed.

  • Listen to Ghanaians and reshuffle non-performing ministers — Kofi Akpaloo tells Nana Addo

The founder and the leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Percival Kofi Akpaloo, has appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to reshuffle his non-performing ministers to help inject what he described as fresh energy into the administration.

He advised Nana Addo to shake up his government and reshuffle his appointees particularly non-performing ministers, deputy ministers, Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives as well as some CEOs of some state institutions to pave way for more competent and selfless hands to bring their expertise to bear on his administration.

He said that some ministers have been tolerated for far too long, and their continuous stay in office was distracting government business, adding that it was time to show them the exit, and give the opportunity to those who are ready and prepared to serve in the interest of the party and the government.

    Kofi Akpaloo

He cited the overwhelming thirst and request of the masses for his call stating that he believes that the call is in the right direction given the prevailing economic conditions in the country.

In an interview on Kumasi-based Hello FM, Kofi Akpaloo stressed that he believed that the President himself must have heard about the calls and that he should act on same.

He said: “There is an immediate need to make changes in his government because since 1992 we have not had successive governments ruling this country for almost 6 years without making ministerial changes.”

Flagbearer of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) Kofi Akpaloo has disclosed that he would dismiss corrupt police officials if he wins the 2020 elections to become the next president.

According to him, the Ghana Police Service needs some level of order for their job to be done well.

Speaking on the Wow Show on TV3, yet to be aired, Kofi Akpaloo shed light on some plans he hopes to implement should his party win power come December 7.

“Under my watch no police man will have the audacity to be collecting bribe,” he said.

He further indicated that the top hierarchy of the Police Service must be held liable for corruption in the Service.

“It is not only the small boys in the police, the top guys are the ones you have to fire.”

Mr Akpaloo was one of 13 presidential candidates who were disqualified by the Electoral Commission ahead of the 2016 elections.

  • I will not appoint relatives into my government Kofi Akpaloo

Mr Percival Kofi Akpaloo, the Flagbearer of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) says he will not appoint any relative into his government if voted into power in the December 2020 General Election.

The decision is part of a broader measure of the Party to “significantly reduce corruption from the top to the grassroots.”

Mr Akpaloo, who said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency said: “The LPG intends to build proper control mechanisms to punish everyone involved in corruption.

“The question is, are people ready to make people close to them or in their government pay for corruption they are involved in? But I am ready to make sure right things are done all the time. That is why I have promised that we are not going to put my relatives and family members in my government.”

To ensure the welfare of the needy, he said the LPG intended to put money directly into the pockets of children and younger adults under its “Child Benefits Intervention” programme.

Every child below the age of 18 would receive a monthly allowance of GH¢200.00, and twins would receive GH¢300.00 while those above 18 and unemployed would receive GH¢300.00.

The LPG, he said, was also working at setting up a 10-billion dollar job fund to offer students from universities and polytechnics loans to startup businesses.

The loans, which will come with little interest could be as high as GH¢250,000.00.

The Flagbearer said his government would also lead the nation to build her own “Cocoa Processing Facility” to produce chocolate for export to stop the exportation of cocoa for finished products.

This, he said could create about 250,000 direct jobs to add value to the cocoa base.

Mr Akpaloo said his government would also encourage joint-ventures to boost rice and poultry production to reduce imports.

The boosting of poultry products could lead to the production of 550 million birds per annum to feed the West African sub-region, he observed. Mr Akpaloo said the LPG would also introduce the “Affordable Housing Plan” especially for the needy.

The nation under the LPG-led administration would also build a complete city within the “Bono-Ahafo” enclave to serve as the “Administrative Capital” of the country, while Accra remained the “Commercial Capital”.

The Flagbearer said Ghana needed fast trains to improve commercial activities, adding that people should be able to move from Accra and get to Tamale within an hour and from Aflao to Elubo within the same time frame to open up the country for rapid growth.

In the area of sanitation, Sanitary Inspectors would be employed and deployed to work across the country to cause the arrest of people who litter the environment indiscriminately.

“CCTV cameras would also be fixed across the country, especially in the populated areas to record and help trace people who flout the rule. This will even make it difficult for the sanitary inspectors to collect bribes. People will also be held accountable if they allow for people to litter around their houses and work places,” he said.

Mr Akpaloo said: “The LPG believes monies can be generated from borrowing from the Bank of Ghana and paying back with interest to prosecute the agenda.

“As a country, we have borrowed but wasted the money by using it for unnecessary stuff. We are going to borrow the money to invest in our people and good projects to grow this economy and pay back.”

  • LPG urges eligible Ghanaians to take part in voter registration exercise

The Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) has entreated all eligible Ghanaians to register in the upcoming voters registration exercise slated to begin on Tuesday, June 30, 2020.

This is to allow them to exercise their voting rights in the December 7 Elections.

On Thursday, June 25, the Supreme Court ruled that the Electoral Commission (EC) could go ahead to compile a new voters roll in accordance with C.I 126.

A statement signed by Mr John Amekah, the Chairman of the LPG, copied to the Ghana News Agency, on Friday, said it was the civic responsibility of every eligible Ghanaians to register and vote, in order to elect their own leaders to govern them.

“We advise our party members, sympathizers and the public to abide by the COVID-19 safety protocols whilst the LPG Flagbearer is making frantic efforts to provide personal protective equipment to party members across the country,” it said.

It urged all prospective registrants to adhere strictly to the rules and regulations governing the electoral process.

There should be no cause for any party member to take the law into his or her own hand to engage in any destructive or violent behaviour, adding that, the police is mandated by law to deal ruthlessly with any act of lawlessness, it said.

“We should all be law-abiding citizens in order to live in peace and harmony before, during and after the registration exercise and the elections,” said.

The EC has announced that the compilation of a new voter register would take place in more than 33,000 registration centres nationwide.

All eligible Ghanaians are required by law to present Ghana Card and Passport to allow them to register whilst those who do not have the aforementioned identity cards would need two eligible Ghanaians vouch for them.

  • NDCs absence at IPAC allowed sanity to prevail – Kofi Akpaloo

Founder of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Mr. Kofi Akpaloo says he was happy the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) failed to show up at the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Wednesday.

The presidential candidate told Kwabena Agyapong on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm that the NDC had nothing meaningful to add to the deliberations that the various parties had with the Electoral Commission (EC) concerning its preparedness towards the compilation of the new register.

Mr. Akpaloo said the compilation of the new register is a must and the only way for us to have free, fair, credible and transparent elections this year.

The presence of the NDC he said would have amounted to nothing considering their position on the new register.

”The LPG as a party is satisfied with the arrangements of the EC and we are fully in support of the new register. We cannot go into this election with a register that is fraught with irregularities, he stated.

”The absence of the NDC at IPAC was good for the meeting. Sanity prevailed in the absence. They are troublesome and as a politician, I pray their party will collapse to save this country from their troubles. The high rate of unemployment and difficulties we have encountered as a country is their fault.”

Meanwhile, the EC has hinted it will conduct the compilation of the new register in five clusters.

The Director of Electoral Services at the EC, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe disclosed this to journalists after an Inter-Party Advisory meeting on Wednesday.

He said the exact date for the registration exercise would be announced later but it is expected to start in the last week of June 2020.

“This time around we are using five registration centres per a cluster. So assuming you have 15 polling stations, you divide the 15 by five, so that you have 10 clusters. And each cluster will form one registration team and each team will be made up of two registration officers, two data entry clerks, one registration officer special duties, he will be in charge of commuting between the team and the district office as well as exporting data and the rest, then we will have the laminator.”

“So each phase for the five,… will last for six days. So what it means is that the registration officers will go to the first phase of the five polling station centre in that cluster. So when they go to the first cluster, they will be there for six days, and when they are there for six days, on the 7th day, they will rest due to the rush and interaction and then they will move to the next registration centre in the second phase for another six days and one day to retool and then they will go to the third phase…”

  • I’m happy coronavirus is in Ghana, it has exposed our leaders – Akpaloo

Founder of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) Mr. Kofi Akpaloo, has opined Ghana is not in normal times.

The fight against the coronavirus is a collective one, hence the need for everyone to join in the fight, he posited.

He believes the government must develop measures to target the poor and marginalised in society especially when a partial lockdown has been announced.

Majority of Ghanaians he said live from hand to mouth and asking them to lockdown is not the best.

He condemned the alleged attacks on the public by the military who have been assigned duty in the ongoing operation.

The outbreak in Africa he stated has exposed our leaders and how they exhibit poor leadership.

”I am happy coronavirus has arrived. Whoever developed the virus has done well because it has exposed African leaders and their poor leadership,” he said.

Mr. Akaploo told Kwabena Agyapong on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm that, the outbreak has shown that Ghana and Africa as a whole, is not prepared for lockdown compared to the European countries.

The outbreak he argued is a ”biological weapon” which has been introduced. This is why people are being asked to stay home”.

”Some workers in the hospitality industry have been asked to go home. The government must, therefore, pay these workers. We have to do it,” he added.
