During a recent interview, Kuami Eugene, the musician signed under Lynx Entertainment, openly revealed that he is among the emerging talents within the Ghanaian music industry who, at a remarkably young age, have acquired their own cars.
He mentioned that he bought his first car at the age of 19 after his single, “Angela” had become one of the most popular songs in Ghana.
Kuami Eugene indicated that he bought the car, which was an Elantra, for about Ghc45,000.
“At that time, it cost me GH¢45,000. It was a significant milestone for me as it was the first time I had ever held such a substantial amount of money,” he stated in the said interview.
In the wake of the reactions to this revelation byKuami Eugene, a gentleman on Twitter who goes by the name Henry Asiamah has come out to state that the “Cryptocurrency” hitmaker is lying.
According to Henry, he was a friend of Kuami Eugene at the time, and at the time, he was the one who used to drive him to a music studio in the Odorko area in Accra.
He also added a photo of himself, Kuami Eugene, and another guy to back his claims.
“No hate but it’s a lie ,I use to drive him to studio in odorkor, don’t really remember the studios name : he use to record us and we did great songs . He didn’t have a car then and had just joined hitmaker. Showbiz age and boss talk . New friends after he blew up . Life continues”
The Organizers of theVodafone Ghana Music Awards(VGMA), Charterhouse Production Ltd have vehemently denied playing any role in the crowning of Ghanaian musician, Kuami Eugene as the king of highlife music by Amakye Dede at the 20th VGMAs.
Robert Klah, head of public events and communication at Charterhouse speaking with Asaase Radio said it did not have any role to play in the controversial matter.
“We did not orchestrate any crowning session,” Klah said “So I am a bit lost when it comes to the assertion that event organisers are responsible.
According to Klah, the mandate ofCharterhouse was to ensure that the overall event runs smoothly and maintains a certain standard while providing opportunities for artists to showcase their talents.
“We work with a team… so, you give them the opportunity, they create what they want to do, …the only thing is that you want to ensure that whatever they are going to present is not distasteful, so they get there and perform their act and you move on,” Klah revealed
Amakye Dede in a recent interview revealed that he was forced to crown the young singer.
Elaborating on the incident, Amakye Dede stated, “Though I did that, it was not my will to do so, They forced me to crown Kuami Eugene.”
He further revealed that he initially handed over the crown he was given to someone else however, he was persuaded by others involved in the event to go ahead and crown Kuami Eugene.
“I even gave the crown they handed over to me to someone to put it down, but they later said, no I have to crown him, and I did it,” he shared.
Amakye Dede’s action received widespread criticism from various players in the music industry, including Zapp Mallet, Akwaboah and Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo.
However, Charterhouse has clarified that they had no part in orchestrating the crowning session.
Amakye Dede’s commentary on the matter follows the same tangent his manager Akwesi Aboagye, stated in an interview on Anigye Mmre on Onua FM when the incident occurred in 2019.
According to Aboagye, Kiki Banson, who was responsible for the artist repertoire at the VGMAs, contacted him to inform him of their plan to have Amakye Dede crown Kuami Eugene during his performance.
“KiKi Banson, who was in charge of artiste repertoire for the 2019 VGMAs, called to inform me that as part of Amakye Dede’s performance, they want him to crown Kuami Eugene and I told him I have to speak to my artiste about it,” he revealed
Mr. Aboagye noted that Amakye Dede still declined the offer despite the persuasion, but he was ‘ambushed’ on stage when a crown was given to him unexpectedly to be put on Kuami Eugene’s head.
“So those who watched that act will know that something was not right. According to Amakye Dede, he was surprised to see a lady walk on stage to hand over a crown to him,” Mr Aboagye narrated.
Ghanaian highlife musician Amakye Dede has accused Kiki Banson of forcing him to declare Kuami Eugene the “King of Future Highlife” live on stage during the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs).
This follows the highlife veteran’s claims during an interview on Asaase radio, that he was forced against his will to indulge in the act which trended on social media four years ago.
In the said interview, Amakye Dede revealed that initially, he even attempted to pass the crown given to him onto someone else.
But in a recent interview with Abeiku Santana, Amakye Dede, without hesitation, cited popular music executive, Kiki Banson, as the one who masterminded the act.
“I am telling you straightforwardly that Kiki was the one who gave me the crown. He was the one who forced me to crown Eugene. When he initially gave it to me, I gave it to one of my boys, Robberman, to put it down. Because it wasn’t my intention, they forced me to do it. If you like, you can call Kiki and confirm whether he wasn’t the one who gave me the crown. Call him right now,” he established.
The host, Abeiku Santana, who was a bit confused, then queried: Is it Kiki Banson you’re talking about?
Amakye Dede replied: Why should he do this to me?
Meanwhile, Charterhouse, the organizers of the VGMAs, has distanced itself from the development which took place on their stage years ago.
In response to Amakye Dede‘s revelation, Robert Klah, the Head of Public Events and Communication at Charterhouse, stated that they had no part in orchestrating the crowning session.
“We did not orchestrate any crowning session. So, I am a bit lost when it comes to the assertion that event organizers are responsible,” he stressed.

Amakye Dede revealed that he initially even attempted to pass the crown given to him onto someone else, refusing to participate in the act. However, he was eventually compelled to carry out the coronation against his own will.

Musician Fotocopy has accused radio presenter, Abeiku Santaof bullying in Kuami Eugene collabo case.
In a recent interview with Michy, Fotocopy, who is known for his hit song “Megye Me Dow” featuring Shatta Wale, disclosed earlier this year that he didn’t like Kuami Eugene after he refused a collaboration with him because he claimed he didn’t have the numbers.
The situation took a dramatic turn when Fotocopy was invited to appear on Abeiku Santana’s show, “Ekwansodwoodwoo,” where he was asked to apologize to Kuami Eugene.
According to Fotocopy, he was coerced into apologizing and felt like he had no choice but to comply after Michy asked, “What touched me about it was how he cried during his interview with Abeiku Santana.
“Can I ask you, Fotocopy, do you think Abeiku Santana bullied you into apologizing to Kuami Eugene?”
“Yes, it was a fake apology. It was a setup. He (Kuami Eugene) was the one supposed to apologize, and he nodded when they said you were forced to.”
The child entertainer also added that he realizes that he doesn’t even need Kuami Eugene anymore.
He was cautioned by a panellist on the show not to make such a definitive statement, saying that he did not know what the future held.
The female panelist said, “Don’t say you won’t need him because you don’t know the future.”
However, Michy, who was the host, came to Fotocopy’s defence, pointing out that he was a child and took things very literally.
Michy said, “You can’t blame him, you know, and he takes things literally. He is a child. You know how kids are: once he thinks, he is telling it.”
Kuami Eugene has disclosed that when rapperSarkodiecontacted him for a feature on his song “Happy Day,” he led the latter to believe that it was a song intended to thank God, only for him to learn on set that the project had political motivations.
With barely a month into the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections in Ghana, Sarkodie released ‘Happy Day’ where he indirectly endorsed President Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party with the lyric ‘Nana Toaso’.
Kuami Eugene, after the release of the viral tune, declared that he had no idea what he had gotten himself into, as it wasn’t his intention to be on a campaign song that could affect his brand.
“I had no idea that was the direction it was going to. Sarkodie will bear witness to the fact that he sent me the song with the first rap ‘It is a beautiful brand new day’. That was all I had and so I was supposed to create a hook that matches that. His idea was like giving praise to God, and so I wrote a chorus that was giving praise to God, and so I had no idea that it was going to turn into something controversial in the media,” he disclosed in an interview on the Delay Show in April 2023.
A section of Ghanaians have always maintained that Kuami played victim to escape backlash. He has however denied the claim and proven his innocence.
“It was on set when I heard the second verse, I was taken by surprise, I turned to my manager and we both laughed. It is not my conversation to have, it should be my label and Sarkodie’s label…he didn’t send me the ‘Nana Toaso’ part, I could have given him a call,” he noted.
The mother of the 2020 VGMA Artiste of the Year was among the many who felt disappointed in Kuami Eugene for allegedly getting himself into politics at the peak of his career.
“My mum phoned me and questioned why I was getting myself involved in politics because I had just started. She told me that Sarkodie had spent 10 years in the game already and I was just getting started. I told her that I had no idea.”
Sarkodie, on the other hand, has not confirmed that his popular song ‘Happy Day’ was truly an endorsement of the NPP’s presidential candidate, despite the speculations.

Multiple award-winning Ghanaian singer Kuami Eugene has smoked the peace pipe with thriving young rapper Fotocopy.
A video of them hugging and shaking hands inside the studios of Despite Media’s Okay FM has surfaced online and melted the hearts of many.
This comes after Fotocopy, in a recent interview, alleged that Kuami Eugene refused to feature him on a song. Noting that due to that incident, he hates the ‘Angela’ hitmaker.
Host of the show, Abeiku Santana, in jest hinted that since they have settled their differences, he would sponsor the upcoming feature.
Star boy Kuami Eugene has responded to Fototcopy’s recent claim about declining to do a song with the young boy.
Fotocopy had said in an interview on Bryt TV that he wanted to feature Kuami Eugene on a song but the ‘Angela’ hit maker turned down his request.
Kuami Eugene says he never said his numbers being few was the reason he rejected him.
We don’t just get up and collaborate or feature. You need to go through the right way of communication since I don’t work alone. I have my line manager, road manager and some team members.
I have over 50 fadama boys who are my childhood friend and are into music. That doesnt mean I should collaborate with all of them.
Highlife and Afrobeat artiste Kuami Eugene has described comments nine-year-old singer Fotocopy has made about him as unfortunate.
According to him, Fotocopy is too young a boy to understand and throw about words like hatred, especially when talking about other artistes.
This comes after the ‘School Dey Be’ singer in a recent TV interview, said he hated Kuami Eugene.
“Kuami Eugene, I don’t want to talk about it. In the whole industry, he is an artiste I hate. I hate him because of what he told me – it took me more than a week to eat. It took me more than a week for me to eat because he told me that my numbers were really small and he couldn’t feature me,” Fotocopy had said.
However, speaking on Prime Morning on Joy FM, Kuami Eugene said that he believes the young boy was influenced to say such words adding that Fotocopy is too young to understand the enormity of the word ‘hate’.
“I think hate is too much of an intense word for a small boy to understand. To say that I hate someone. He’s too young to understand hate but that’s parenting. He’s not my issue because I think hate is too profound for a little boy like this to say,” he said on Thursday.
“You can tell clearly that in the interview he was having, he was told backstage….and whoever hosted the show, did a very bad job because he was also told backstage that ask him this question and answer it this way, you can clearly, go and listen to this interview.”
Kuami Eugene believes that such words from an artiste especially one that young invite trolls and hatred from the public which goes a long way to affect their career in the future.
“When you go to his comment section, they’re insulting this little boy and he didn’t call for this. So, please real quick let me take this opportunity to say, those attacking the little boy, he’s just a small boy. He doesn’t understand what he’s saying. So, forgive him and don’t send him hateful words. He’s just a little boy. I’m a big fan of Fotocopy. He’s just a little boy. I love him,” he said.
On claims he was approached for a feature, the Angela hitmaker stated that the young artiste’s father, who doubles as his manager, casually requested a feature.
However, Kuami Eugene said that as an artiste signed on a label with a team, it takes more than just talking to him to secure a feature adding that he advised the Fotocopy’s manager to have a formal conversation with his team.

Kuami Eugene noted that he was thus taken aback to hear Fotocopy say he hated him while lamenting about not landing a collaboration.
“Kuami Eugene is not just there to do features for everyone. It takes good conversations to have a feature. To meet Richie…I do know the father. Qwaachi, you’re my friend, let’s go together. I will follow you and talk to Richie and the whole team – I have a road manager, somebody that invests and whatever.”
Kuami Eugene said that Fotocopy’s father was not willing to have that extensive conversation needed before they could reach an agreement on a feature.
The ‘Cryptocurrency’ singer stated that he knows the young boy’s father works in the music industry and expected him to understand how the industry operates.
“He didn’t like the fact that I said we should have a whole conversation about it. It doesn’t work like that. That is what people don’t get from the outside world,” Kuami Eugene said.
Kuami Eugene has responded to a recent comment made by nine-year-old artiste Fotocopy about declining to do a song with the young boy.
Fotocopy had said in an interview on Bryt TV that he wanted to feature Kuami Eugene on a song but the ‘Angela’ hit maker turned down his request.
Kuami is said to have adduced as reason for rejecting the feature, Fotocopy’s low numbers.
The boy said he could not eat for a week because of the response Kuami supposedly made to him. He added that this even made him develop hatred for Kuami Eugene.
Fotocopy mentioned that what salved his pain and disappointment was a feature from Shatta Wale on the song ‘School Dey Bee’.
However, speaking on Joy Prime TV’s Prime Morning on Thursday, March 30, 2023, Kuami Eugene said he did not say anything bad to the boy.
“We took pictures and all. There is a video there, I was vibing with the boy. Do you think I would say such a thing to this young boy, hurt him so bad and still take pictures with him?,” he asked.
Narrating the incident, the Lynx Entertainment and Empire Music signee said he met Fotocopy and his father Qwaachi at the house of Richie Mensah’s mother at Osu.
When they requested for the feature, he told them they needed to formally discuss it his management.
“And I said it doesn’t work like that because I am from Fadama. I left the hood and I have over 50 boys that are left in the hood. I can pin point and name all of them, if I say I am featuring all of everyone, I trust me, the career will end, wey we all we nogo benefit like that from am,” he told Roselyn Felli and KMJ on Prime Morning.
“Kuami Eugene is not there to do features with everyone. It takes good conversation to have a feature,” he further noted.
The highlife singer explained that Fotocopy’s father Qwaachi may have thought that because he had a relationship with him, he could just pull off the feature with ease.
In the meantime, Kuami says he does not see a future collaboration with the young musician.
Foto Copy has songs like Megye Me Dow featuring Clemento Suarez and 2022 release, Tomorrow.
Former Talented Kids star, Foto Copy, has caused a stir in the music industry after expressing his resentment towards high-life and afrobeat superstar, Kuami Eugene.
According to sources, Kuami Eugene refused to collaborate with Foto Copy because he didn’t think he had the required fanbase.
During an interview on Bryt TV, Foto Copy, who initially wanted to remain silent, finally spilled the tea by declaring, “In the whole industry, he is the artiste that I hate.”
If Kuame Eugene really said this to this Little Kid Fotocopy, then he didn’t try koraa. I hear say the Kid Cried saa on that day. Oh ☹️☹️ pic.twitter.com/JFth88qpzF
Kuami Eugene is yet to respond to the allegation levelled against him, but fans are eagerly waiting for his reaction.
Despite this setback, Foto Copy has not let it stop him from making waves in the industry.
Since appearing on Tv3’s kids show, he has released several hit songs and even collaborated with South African legend Uhuru on his latest track, “Tomorrow.” Not to mention his banger, “School Dey Be,” which features dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale.
We can’t wait to see what Foto Copy has in store for us next, and who knows, maybe Kuami Eugene will have a change of heart and give him that much-awaited collaboration after all.
Recall that a few days ago Kuami Eugene made headlines when he mentioned during an interview that any lady who wants to be his girlfriend must develop a thick skin because every woman wants a bit of him.
During the interview, the “Wish Me Well” hitmaker said;
“I am not dating… Right now, I know dating me will be very difficult. You should have tough skin to date me,” he disclosed on ‘Stripped by Sika Osei’.
“Currently, women, girls, everyone, including men, want to have one person to themselves…If you wanna have me to yourself, it’s gonna take some sacrifices because people won’t just allow you to.“
However, in his recent interview, Kuami Eugene disclosed that he was misunderstood and misinterpreted.
“Since I continue to do music and remain a popular figure in Ghana I can’t assure you that people won’t say bad things about me or I won’t be attacked”.
“That’s why I said if you are my partner get ready to receive your fair share of it and that’s what I meant by you should have a tough skin,” he clarified on the show.
He continued “That’s what I mean by having tough skin but I don’t mean to say that I have plenty of girls chasing me so when you come and meet about 50 girls you should be tough.“
“That’s not it because I have respect for women and I have respect for our people and I respect everybody that I come across,” he concluded.
Barely a week after Kuami Eugene made a statement implying that any woman interested in dating him should be able to handle the attention he receives from other women, the singer has since clarified his comments.
In an interview with Hello FM, Eugene claims his remarks were taken out of context and that he intended to convey that his fame and success make it difficult to avoid negative comments and attacks.
As a result, he suggested that potential partners should be prepared to handle criticism, hence the need for “tough skin.”
“I said if you are my partner, get ready to receive your fair share of it, and that’s what I meant when I said you should have tough skin,” he explained on the show.
The singer went on to explain that his comments were not intended to suggest that he has multiple women pursuing him. Instead, he emphasized that he respects women and all those he encounters.
By asking potential partners to be prepared for negative attention, Eugene hoped to manage expectations and prevent any misunderstandings.
“That’s what I mean by having tough skin, but I don’t mean to say that I have plenty of girls chasing me, so when you come and meet about 50 girls, you should be tough.
“That’s not it because I have respect for women, and I have respect for our people, and I respect everybody that I come across,” he added.

According to him, being his girlfriend does not come easy, thus any woman who wishes to be in a relationship with him must have tough skin and the ability to withstand hatred from a section of the public.
The Rockstar an interview with Sika Osei on Lynx TV said anyone who would like to date him must develop a tough skin and must be ready to make lots of sacrifices. He emphasized that people would not give the chosen one the freedom and space to focus on her relationship with him, as there would be gossip, backbiting, hatred, and insults from people who might also like to have him to themselves.
“I am not dating… Right now, I know dating me will be very difficult. You should have tough skin to date me…Currently, women, girls, everyone including men want to have one person to themselves…If you wanna have me to yourself, it’s gonna take some sacrifices because people won’t just allow you to. They won’t allow you to have Kuami all for yourself. You’ll get a lot of haters… people are gonna hurt you, they will come at you,” he said.
”They are going to come at you. They won’t make you haveKuami Eugene all to yourself, because that is when gossip and hatred will set in. People will say all sort of bad things about me to you, for you to leave,”
The ‘Wish me well’ hitmaker bragged that, “Everybody wants a piece of me. It is what it is…I am attracted to smart and neat people”.
The singer cum songwriter cited how men and women of today want their partners all to themselves and how that might be impossible on his side.
Answering the question, do you have a spec? The musician made known that he is attracted to smart and neat people just like he is. Nevertheless, he indicated that he gives people the freedom to be who they are regardless of his spec.
Kuami Eugene has announced that he is yet to find a girlfriend, however, any woman who wishes to be in a relationship with him must have tough skin and the ability to withstand hatred from a section of the public.

The Ghanaian hitmaker hammered that his girlfriend must also be prepared to make some sacrifices to ensure the growth of their relationship.
“Currently, women, girls, everyone including men want to have one person to themselves…If you wanna have me to yourself, it’s gonna take some sacrifices because people won’t just allow you to. They won’t allow you to have Kuami all for yourself. You’ll get a lot of hatred… people are gonna hurt you, they will come at you,” he hammered.
Kuami Eugene added that people will be quick to pollute the mind of every woman who comes in his life in an attempt to break their love life.
Kuami Eugene has disclosed that he nearly got into a brawl in a club with a man who provocatively touched his ‘woman’ on the dancefloor.
Recalling how far he has gone to defend a woman on ‘Stripped by Sika Osei’, the famous singer noted that an inappropriate touch from a man brought out the ‘Fadama’ boy in him resulting in a near fight.
Back before Kuami Eugene became a household name, his manager, Richie Mensah went partying with him in a club, and in one of such occasions, he had to stand up for the woman he was with.
“Richie took me to the club, I hadn’t been to the club before. The first time I tasted alcohol was with Richie. He mixed it and said, try it, it will be nice. Now I go to the club by myself,” he laughed.
Narrating the story, he said: “I had someone that I admired and we were in the club and someone (man) was dancing with her. It was calm, I mean it was a club so it was alright. Then it got to the level where I couldn’t help it. Now he wanted to touch her. The audacity. I was so charged like they put gas in me. I was like, boss, you shouldn’t touch her.
“He got so far and the girl had to push him and it got heated. That was when I had the Fadama boy in me…I moved to him and we started, they had to walk me out. They spoke to me and advised me that I shouldn’t start the argument when I walk back into the club…I had to walk out because it was heated…I wasn’t this big, people will take out cameras to capture the scene. I wanted to hit back…that is how far I’ve gone for a woman.”

“I think, this reaction [to the song] has been shocking,” he told Accra-based Hitz FM’s Doreen Avio in an interview posted to YouTube, Monday, February 28.
“First, because, ‘How did these two know each other?’ but then when they hear a record, it makes sense,” Rotimi said again. “And it feels like something that should have happened years ago.”
The singer shared a few comments he has received for the song.
“The reaction’s been beautiful. People love it. People have been saying they’ve been playing it on repeat, it feels refreshing, and whenever you give people a refreshing type of energy, you’ve done your job as an artist,” the 34-year-old said.
With “Come on, we’re cousins,” he agreed with Ms Avio that Ghana and Nigeria are family.

It’s a collaboration between Kuami Eugene and Rotimi which was released on February 23, and is already receiving a lot of airplay.
Speaking on Hitz FM, Rotimi stated that he is a big fan of Kuami Eugene and they have been talking hence when he dropped his record online he decided to jump on it.
He added that he had also heard about the ‘Single’ hit maker from mutual friends.
Asked aside from being a fan and hearing about him, what was that unique thing that made him want to work with the Rockstar, Rotimi stated that Kuami’s style of music is what attracted him to work with him.
He added that it’s different, natural, and also works well with his sound too and it was just ok to jump on it.
“His tone, not a lot of people have that type of tone and not a lot of people make quality music anymore so it didn’t matter what record he did, it didn’t matter what feature he did, it’s just that certain people just have that sound and it meshes well with my sound,“ he said.
Rotimi is currently in Ghana to shoot a music video for the hit song ‘Cryptocurrency.’

2019 artiste of the year, Kuami Eugene, has disclosed that prior to winning the award, he had a revelation that his colleague musician, King Promise had been crowned the VGMA New Artiste of the Year 2019.
He, however, said he was able to overturn this fate through fervent prayer.
Speaking in an interview on JoyPrime, he noted that: “I once had a dream. It was the new artiste of the year. It was myself, KiDi, Darko Vibes, King Promise, Kwesi Arthur, and Kurl Songx. It was a tight competition. Two days before the awards, I had a dream that I didn’t take the award. I woke up. I didn’t feel good at all. I have to pray against all the boys. I told my mom to assist me in praying. The boys don’t want me to win.”
He further disclosed he was very passionate about winning the award since he wants to tell a good story to his children (in the future.)
“It was my first time on the VGMA platform, so the whole VGMA effect was on, and Kuami Eugene on that platform for the first time was on my brain. I had a difficult time letting it go. The new artiste of the year, I actually needed that award because it was a tight competition.”
“It wouldn’t have been bad if it went to King Promise or KiDi or some of my brothers, but at the end of the day, this was New Artiste of the Year. I wanted to be remembered for that in our year; I mean, I have to tell my kids that I beat KiDi and King Promise. I have to be able to tell my kids that. That was what I was thinking, and in my dream, someone is taking it away. I think it was King Promise. I wasn’t happy, at least it should be a taller person,” he told Doreen Avio on Joy Prime.
In 2019, Kwami Eugene received 7 nominations at the Ghana Music Awards and proceeded to win the awards for Album of the Year, Producer of the Year, and Highlife Artist of the Year. He also bagged the prestigious Artist of the Year and High-life Artist of the Year at the 2020 Ghana Music Awards.
Ghanaian musician Kuami Eugene has finally spoken about his weight gain.
In the interview on Joy Prime’s new ‘The Doreen Avio Show’, Kuami Eugene said he had tried not to gain weight.
“I don’t need flesh. I try as much as possible now not to get flesh because I know a time will come I will probably get the flesh I need because now I am able to afford this pizza, buy lasagna and I am eating good. That means if I don’t take good care of myself, by the time I am 40 I can’t be like Okyeame Kwame”, he quipped.
Kuami made the statement when the host Doreen Avio expressed hope that he would gain weight one day, after going through hard times while growing up and subsequently in pursuit of his music career.
For the past few months, there have been a barrage of comments on social media regarding the Rockstar’s weight gain. While some have described his new look as attractive, others have cautioned him not to lose control of maintaining a healthy body shape.
The Lynx Entertainment signee sealed a deal with American record label Empire in 2022 and released ‘Single’ to that effect.
He has also announced he will soon be releasing his next album.

According to him, it will be a nightmare not to be recognised as the rock star he has become, right from the very first day he held onto the microphone.
The 2020 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) Artiste of the Year made these revelations on The Doreen Avio Show, which airs on Joy Prime.
“My greatest fear is to wake up one morning and realise I’m not this rockstar. Imagine I wake up and go to the mall, and nobody says ‘Rockstar.’ I will ask myself if I didn’t sleep well. I mean, I get people asking me, don’t you get tired when people are on your leg everywhere? You don’t get to come stand in a queue like us anymore? I tell them it’s my job. “Do you think I’d rather get by without being recognised like you?” he asks.
The Lynx Entertainment cum EMPIRE Distribution signee believes money can acquire fame.
He described it as a travesty to be the world’s most famous musician without money.
“The money can give me the fame, so will you prefer to choose being famous over being without anything in your pocket? I think that will be the worst experience of my life. You’ll be super popular; everybody knows you everywhere, but you have to pick Uber. “The driver will be thinking, ‘Is this Kuami Eugene, or has the Rockstar’s car developed a fault?” he said.
Born Eugene Kwame Marfo, he is a highlife and Afrobeat singer-songwriter best known for songs such as “Wish Me Well” and “Ohemaa,” to name a few.

According to him, there are a lot of amazing songs people listen to without understanding, especially African music.
Speaking to Rev. Erskine on Y107.9FM’s Myd Morning Show, Kuami Eugene said, “There are a lot of African music we don’t understand but still jam to, and I think music travels far regardless hence, you have to do good music and once it sounds good people jump on it.”
However, he believes the language barrier will be a challenge if the artiste wants to make it on the international market.
“If you’re able to break through that barrier, then you can do the O2 arena and other places because those coming to watch you want to sing along, and if they don’t understand anything about the music it’s quite difficult,” he explained.
Citing Nigerians as an example, he mentioned language as an advantage for the Nigerian music industry, as they sing almost all their songs in English.
“The fact that they use a lot of pidgin in their music and because it’s English, people understand what’s being said. So, when it’s played somewhere, it doesn’t have to be explained because they can understand everything being said in the song,” he said.
The award-winning singer and songwriter noted that it’s not bad to love and respect your heritage and whatever you’re doing but also, it won’t be bad if our music gets out there because others understand what we’re talking about.
“It’s good but if you really want to get on the international market you have to do something they’ll understand and that means adding a little of what they can relate to,” he discussed.

The singer who is one of the most sought artistes in Ghana and Africa, admitted that he was hurt when people made fun of him for his sense of fashion in a message he shared on Twitter Space with Sincerely Accra Podcast on November 17.
According to him, because he wanted to construct his mother a house and provide for his family, who he said were not wealthy, Kuami Eugene indicated that he had to set spending limits.
“When I came to Lynx Entertainment, trust me, I actually had nothing. My parents didn’t have money and you can’t compare me to some artiste I came with because they were living in their parent’s house. My mum, my dad, my siblings, and myself were living in a rented apartment. It wasn’t okay for all of us.
“The time everybody was talking about my shoes and dress, trust me, I was trying to put things together. The things these other artistes had to go to the boutique to put together, I had to go to Kantamanto… so you can’t compare the two of us. People will say these things without knowing my pocket,” Eugene disclosed.
The Lynx Entertainment signee, who recently released the song “Single,” talked out about the sacrifices he had to make in order to avoid being ridiculed for dressing in “cheap” clothes that weren’t appropriate for his status as one of Ghana’s top musicians.

“The first thing I was thinking of was to find a good place for my mum to stay…I wasn’t thinking of what to wear but how to fix my mum’s life because the English I am speaking today is because she put me through good education. I had to find somewhere better for her to stay before thinking of putting on a Louis Vuitton or a nice t-shirt that will cost like GH200. It was too much for me back then,” said Kuami Eugene.
Kuami Eugene has reiterated the struggles he had to endure at the onset of his career leading him to make some of the toughest yet best decisions of his life.

The Lynx Entertainment signee who is out with a tune titled ‘Single’ for the first time opened up about the sacrifices he had to make at the expense of being mocked for wearing ‘cheap’ outfits that didn’t suit his calibre as one of Ghana’s biggest musicians.
He added that his aim was to change his family’s story and get them a better life and looking back today, there are no regrets as his mum is in a better state.
The artiste says he was in a toxic relationship previously but is now single and ready to mingle.
The ‘Take Away’ singer who was on set shooting the video to his latest record ‘Single’ made this known to Joy Primes’ entertainment journalist, IB.
According to the Lynx signee, his status at the time came of use in the recording of his latest song ‘Single‘.
“I have been that guy that put my emotions and everything in my music from ‘Wish Me Well’ to ‘Obiaa To’ to ‘Open Gate’, the things that I have been through, what I am going through, anything that moves me and the message I want to share with the world and ‘Single’ is another one. I have been through it for some past months and I am still in the process of being the strong guy that I am but everything in life takes time so I am single for now,” he said.
Nonetheless, the ‘Angela’ crooner told his fans and the world that he is not brokenhearted.
“This is actually not a broken heart, it’s about me being single for now because I was in a toxic relationship, I am no more in that relationship and that makes me single for now.”
Asked if that ordeal has affected his music in any way, Kuami Eugene responded in the negative.
“This has actually strengthened me, it helped with the song with the song because I got my emotions in this and I think you should all check it out.”
Kuami Eugene released his record “Single” on November 3.
The song has enjoyed airplay with the video chalking 2.1 million views on YouTube alone.

DKB’s video captured Sarkodie’s lyrics, “If today I am sleeping with lights in my house and my children can go to school for free, forgive me, but Nana, continue (Toaso).”
The aforementioned lines formed part of Sarkodie’s lyrics for the ‘Happy Day’ song which featured Kuami Eugene. The song was described by some persons as an endorsement of Nana Akufo-Addobecause of the ‘Nana Toaso’ phrase which the ruling party and Nana Addo used for their campaign.
According to DKB, after composing this song, Sarkodie has been mute over Akufo-Addo’s poor governance. The comedian mentioned that the rapper would have composed over 200 songs for the former President, John Dramani Mahama he were still president of the country.
“If this be John Mahama time like he drops 200singles, 4 mixtapes, 7 EPs, 10 LPs and 56 remixes on the economic mess we Dey face. Na joke ooo,” he mocked.
During John Mahama’s time as president, Sarkodie released ‘Inflation’, ‘Masses’ and ‘Dumsor’ which touched on the economic situation and energy crisis. The musician is yet to release a song addressing same although the economic crisis continue to worsen.
In some social media reactions, netizens have indicated that DKB was being honest in his statement while noting that Sarkodie was a hypocrite.
“True talk Yaaro. Every passing day, I get convinced he probably was paid to be churning out those songs. He’s probably been paid to shush now; who knows?” a user said.
Another added, “He’s the greatest hypocrite of this generation” while a third said, “You are right.”
Meanwhile, calls for Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to be sacked or resign following the economic crisis continue unabated. Some have also suggested that President Akufo-Addo should resign for failing to deliver.
