Hypocrite! All kingpin galamseyers appear on your show – Okatakyie Afrifa jabs Kwami Sefa Kayi

Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, the host of Angel FM’s morning show, has praised Kwami Sefa Kayi, the renowned broadcaster, for his efforts to combat illegal mining, commonly referred to as galamsey.

Afrifa-Mensah commended Sefa Kayi for utilizing his Kokrokoo platform to raise awareness about the devastating effects of galamsey on the environment.

However, Afrifa-Mensah has expressed dissatisfaction with what he perceives as a lack of sincerity in Sefa Kayi’s approach.

He argued that while Sefa Kayi publicly denounces the issue, he fails to address the problem directly when those involved in galamsey appear on his show.

Afrifa-Mensah claimed that Sefa Kayi’s program features prominent figures from the galamsey sector regularly and suggests that Sefa Kayi should use his platform to confront these individuals openly.

“I have seen the comments by Kwami Sefa Kayi and I believe it’s a good call. However, it is high time the senior journalists in this country stop the hypocrisy. I like Kwami Sefa Kayi, but the hypocrisy needs to end.

“All the big names in the galamsey canker appear on his show every morning. He hosts those people every morning. He knows them, so why can’t he tell them to their faces? There are journalists and politicians involved, and he knows them.

“We all respect him, but the hypocrisy must stop. If he knows that galamsey is bad, then he should be honest enough to name the people involved. So when they come on his show, he should tell them. He is friends with all the people involved,” he said on Angel FM.

Afrifa-Mensah believes that Sefa Kayi’s relationships with influential figures in the galamsey industry lead to a form of hypocrisy.

He urges Sefa Kayi to be more transparent and direct in his criticism, emphasizing that if he genuinely opposes galamsey, he should name the individuals involved and hold them accountable on air.

“You know what I fear? Do you know that we are creating a rebel armed force? We are creating rebels out of this (galamsey). So let’s say about four hundred people are wielding 100 guns; these galamseyers are armed. So, bit by bit, by the time we realize, they’ve turned into what is known as a ragtag army, who are soldiers not properly trained but are armed and know how to fire rifles.

“If they decide that they will block the Accra-Kumasi highway, they can do that easily. That is the problem we are faced with. When it comes to the issue of security, I have an interest. If these galamseyers, about 300 of them, decide to block that very important road, what will we do? By the time security personnel are deployed to that area, they will have finished their operation long ago,” Sefa Kayi stated.

This critique comes in response to Sefa Kayi’s recent warnings about the potential security threats posed by galamsey.

Sefa Kayi has highlighted the risk of creating armed groups from the galamsey community, which could pose a significant threat to national security.

He expressed concerns that these individuals could potentially disrupt major infrastructure, such as the Accra-Kumasi highway, due to their growing numbers and access to weapons.

Flashback: Aside your quick temper, you’ve not changed – Kwami Sefa Kayi to Napo

A video has emerged featuring Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, commonly known as NAPO, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) running mate, during an interview with Kwame Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo show.

In the clip, the host posed a critical question to NAPO, asking whether politicians and government officials are aware that their tenure will eventually end and if they consider the implications of their decisions and actions while in office.

Kwame’s question stemmed from a story told by NAPO on how his pastor who visited him on a Friday to invite him fo a harvest service died late Sunday while resting from leading the church’s harvest service.

He advised the need to consider one’s ways life comes with so many uncertainties.

Consequently, Sefa Kayi inquired if holding power influences their personalities including NAPO or if they remain genuine and honest in all their dealings.

Citing his relationship with the host, he threw the question back at Sefa Kayi to give his opinion of his personality whether he has changed since assuming power.

In response, Kwame specifically addressed NAPO’s temper, mentioning that while NAPO has largely remained the same, his irritability and occasional sudden outbursts are notable exceptions.

“NAPO, apart from being easily irritated, you haven’t changed. Your temper is the only problem. Sometimes, out of the blue, you can just explode,” said Sefa Kayi.

Chef Smith cook-a-thon: “I’m really pained, why would you do that?” – Kwami Sefa Kayi

Ghanaian radio personality Kwami Sefa Kayi expressed shock and disappointment over the recent controversy involving Chef Ebenezer Smith, also known as Chef Smith.

The chef falsely claimed to have set a new Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual, stating that he cooked for 802 hours and 25 minutes.

Chef Smith made this announcement on July 2, 2024, during a press conference where he displayed a certificate, supposedly from Guinness World Records. However, it was later revealed that the certificate was fake.

On his Kokrokoo show on July 3, 2024, Kwame Sefa Kayi addressed the issue, expressing his confusion and dismay.

He remarked, “Those who follow the Guinness Book of World Records cook-a-thon, I learned a man called Chef Smith had a press conference telling Ghanaians that he had won the cook-a-thon but that is not true. But I’m really pained about it, why would you do that?…this is unfortunate. This is sad.”

The legitimacy of Chef Smith’s claim was questioned by Derek Edem Kojo, a journalist from GhOne TV.

In response to his inquiry, Madalyn Bielfield, PR Manager for Guinness World Records, confirmed that the certificate displayed by Chef Smith was not genuine and that the current record holder is Alan Fisher.

Bielfield stated, “No, this is not true at all. He does not hold the GWR title, and that is not our certificate.”

Entertainment personality and politician Kwame Obeng Asare, popularly known as A Plus, recently took issue with broadcaster Kwami Sefa Kayi over comments made regarding Alan Kyerematen, the leader of the Alliance for Revolutionary Change (ARC).

The exchange started when Sefa Kayi questioned where Alan would select his ministers from, should he win the presidency, given the limited support base of his party.

“Where will Alan Kyerematen appoint his ministers from?” Sefa Kayi reportedly asked, as reported by graphiconline.com.

A Plus criticized Sefa Kayi on Facebook, suggesting that the broadcaster had received government funds for managing media responses during bank closures.

“He will appoint them from the same place you collected millions of Ghana cedis for government-sponsored damage control when banks were shut down.!”

This disagreement highlights ongoing concerns about Sefa Kayi’s perceived lack of critique towards the Akufo-Addo administration compared to previous governments.

The situation intensified when Sefa Kayi accepted a role in a state institution from President Akufo-Addo.
