Teenager passes away in hospital after being stabbed twice during a fight

A knife attack in a town centre claimed the life of a 19-year-old guy.

Violence erupted shortly after midnight on Saturday in Ormskirk, Lancashire, and the kid was stabbed as a result.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene in Railway Road quickly and located the victim nearby, but they were unable to save him.

After the incident, he passed away in the hospital.

A second 19-year-old was also stabbed; he was transported to the hospital, but it is not believed that his injuries are life-threatening.

Two men, both 19 years old, have been detained on affray suspicion after being arrested.

There is a substantial police presence in the region, and officers have taped off several roads to create a large-scale cordon in the town.

Police stated that they responded to allegations of a “ongoing disturbance” near Railway Road at 12.05am.

According to a Lancashire Constabulary spokesman, a 19-year-old was discovered nearby with stab wounds. He tragically passed away later in the hospital despite the best efforts of the emergency personnel.

‘Two 19-year-old men, one from Maghull and one from Liverpool, have been detained on suspicion of affray. They are still being held as of right now.

The arrests are related to a fight between many individuals that happened in Railway Road. The town centre has designated a considerable area as a crime scene.

  • Northern England under flood warning as further rain expected

Northern England under flood warning as further rain expected

It’s unlikely that the UK’s summer weather will get a little bit more summery in the upcoming days or weeks, according to experts.

Several flood advisories have been issued across England, the latest indication that people may need to bring an umbrella rather than a parasol when leaving the house.

With 14 each in Merseyside, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, and Yorkshire, the government-issued notices are primarily concentrated in the north of the nation.

They include one flood warning, which carries an extra level of seriousness beyond an alert, concerning the River Wyre near Catterall, north of Preston.

Flooding is also possible in parts of Middlesbrough, Leicestershire and Berkshire.

A spokesperson for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said ‘minor surface water flooding impacts’ were possible in those areas, but added that the overall flood risk for England and Wales is ‘very low’ for the next five days.

The Met Office said a large band of rain would sit across the central swathe of the UK, particularly northern England and Wales, for much of today.

Several festivals and sporting events have already been affected by the grim weather.

The fourth Ashes Test at Old Trafford and the Open Championship at Hoylake are both being hampered by near-continuous heavy rain.

Meanwhile, the Bluedot Festival at Jodrell Bank in Cheshire has told Sunday day ticket holders that it is unable to accommodate them, as they announced wet conditions meant the programme could only go ahead ‘for people already here’.

Marco Petagna, a meteorologist at the Met Office, said: ‘Certainly localised flooding is quite possible. The rain warning we have out now until midnight certainly suggests the potential for standing water on the roads, so journey times could be impacted, and there could be some disruption for local bus and train services.’

The weather agency predicts we may be on course for the dullest July on record, with noticeably less sunshine than average for the month.

It comes straight after the UK’s hottest June ever – and while southern Europe is being battered by a number of brutal heatwaves.

Marco added more wet and windy weather was due to arrive from the west in the middle of next week, with the outlook ‘staying unsettled’ and thunderstorms and further flood risk possible.

Mercedes crashes horribly into the back of a vehicle at great speed

In Rawtenstall, Lancashire, the man struck the back of the stopped truck after exceeding the posted 40 mph speed limit while driving at 60 mph.

When police received a call on Friday reporting that a car was “trapped under a lorry,” they “prepared for the worst,” according to police.

Pictures of the wrecked car are horrifying. Its bonnet was ripped off, the windscreen was broken, and the bodywork was severely crushed.

But incredibly, the driver only suffered ‘minor injuries’ and also passed all ‘impairment tests’ after officers arrived at the scene.

Police said the lorry driver had been sleeping in his cab at the time of the accident while adding the Mercedes owner had been reported for several driving offences.

A spokesperson from Lancashire Police said: ‘As a responder, when you hear ‘car trapped under a lorry’, you prepare yourself for the worst.

‘This lorry was parked up in Rawtenstall with the driver soundly asleep in his cab when the Mercedes collided with the rear of it, becoming trapped underneath the tail mounted forklift.

‘Incredibly, the Mercedes driver suffered relatively minor injuries despite travelling at around 60mph (in a 40mph limit) when the collision occurred. He also passed all impairment tests.

‘The Mercedes driver has been reported to court for driving without due care and attention, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and driving without insurance.’

Social media users who saw the photos said they were stunned the driver had walked away from the horror crash.

One wrote: ‘He is one very lucky person that he is not pushing up daisies.’

Another simply said: ‘Very very lucky’

While a third added: ‘Wowzers- lucky to come out of that unscathed.’

61-year-old woman accused of killing a baby and abusing one-year-old

In Hapton, Lancashire, a mother has been accused of murder following the death of a baby.

On March 1 of last year, police were called to a residence in the village after hearing that a baby boy had experienced a medical emergency.

The infant, who was nine months old, was rushed to the hospital for treatment, where he passed away on March 5.

A 60-year-old Haslingden woman and a 78-year-old Burnley man were detained in March on suspicion of Section 18 Assault and then detained on suspicion of murder.

The 78-year-old man has now been released without charge but, after consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, police have now charged the woman with the baby’s murder.

Karen Foster, 61, of no fixed address, will appear before Blackburn Magistrates’ Court this morning.

She is also charged with a separate S47 assault on a one-year-old girl in Hapton on March 22, 2019.

Foster is not related to either of the two victims and the two children are not related to one another.

  • ‘Neighbour from hell’ imprisoned for manslaughter after gas explosion that killed toddler

The explosion at 2.36 am on 16th May 2021 completely destroyed the defendant’s council property in Heysham, Lancashire, and damaged 55 others.

A man described as a “neighbour from hell” has been jailed for causing a gas explosion that killed a two-year-old boy.

George Hinds died after his next-door neighbour Darren Greenham, 45, cut the gas pipes at his council house in Heysham, Lancashire in the hope of selling the copper piping for scrap, Preston Crown Court heard.

He used an angle grinder and was under the influence of alcohol and drugs, the court was told.

On Wednesday he was sentenced to 15 years in prison for manslaughter, damaging a gas meter, and theft of gas after pleading guilty in August.

The blast, which happened at 2.36 am on 16 May last year, destroyed Greenham’s property and damaged 55 others.

Arthur’s father Stephen Hinds clutched a Paw Patrol toy in memory of his son as he watched the sentencing from the public gallery.

George’s mother Vicki Studholme, who had previously described Greenham as the “neighbour from hell”, was beside him along with several of their neighbours.

Mr Hinds said: “By Darren, Greenham cutting a gas pipe to make a few quid I have lost my son, my absolute world.”

Arthur’s mother added: “After the explosion, being trapped in the rubble was the most scary I had ever been in my life.

“This was until I arrived at the hospital to be told that George had died.

“Never ever have I felt so scared as in that moment of my life.”

Victim’s family still in a caravan after an explosion

The family has been living in a caravan since the explosion and were praised by Judge Robert Altham for their dignity.

In concluding the case, he said: “Mr Greenham was a selfish and disruptive neighbour.

“He lived his life without regard for the comfort of those who were unfortunate enough to live adjacent to him.”

The prosecution had said Greenham was facing eviction proceedings and was hoping to make money on the pipes he cut.

He was dependent on alcohol and drugs and would regularly play loud music and taunt all three members of the family, the court was told.

After suffering a serious head injury in the explosion, he lost most use of his right hand.

His one-month sentences for theft of gas and damage of a gas meter will run concurrently.
