Accra High School has officially received over 2,400 tablets from the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Ghana Education Service (GES).
This delivery is part of the government’s ‘One-Student-One-Tablet’ policy, aimed at providing digital learning tools to Senior High Schools and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions nationwide.
During the 101st Founder’s Day celebration, Headmistress Madam Evelyn Nabia addressed rumors that the school had not received the tablets.
She confirmed that the devices are currently stored in the school’s warehouse and will be distributed to students starting next year.
The delay she stated, is due to the need for teacher training on the new learning modules before the tablets can be used in classrooms.
“Beginning next year, all students in Accra High School, are going to be studying with tablets. As we speak, they’re currently being stored in our warehouses. I state this emphatically because I’ve seen a news item being circulated, that says that Accra High has not received any tablet, and that is false.
“The reason why they haven’t been distributed is because, the learning modules that are on it have to be learnt by the teachers first, so that when we come to class, we can direct students on how to use them.”
The Founder’s Day event was attended by alumni, current students, and various educational stakeholders. Alumni, wearing the school’s black and white anniversary attire, joined in the festivities alongside other guests.
Guest Speaker Rt. Rev. Borlabi Bortey, Methodist Bishop of Accra Diocese, spoke on the theme “Restoring Discipline of AHISCO, the Role of Stakeholders.”
He emphasized the need for teachers to be exemplary in discipline and called on parents to support their children’s education by ensuring their punctuality and engagement.
“Teachers must always be an example to their students. A teacher who is always late or absent from class and doesn’t mark assignments can’t be an example to students. They need to be good role models as their mistakes can mar the lives of their students.
“Parents must be made to learn that they have a responsibility for their children. If we don’t get contributions from parents when it comes to discipline, then we have lost the game. They must ensure the punctuality of their wards at all times and also facilitate their learning at home,” he advised.
