I can’t plan an accident that could have killed me – Lil Win

Ghanaian actor and comedian Kwadwo Nkansah, widely known as LilWin, has voiced his anguish over the smear campaign against him after a tragic accident in May claimed the life of a 3-year-old boy.

Addressing the audience at the Great Minds International School’s speech and prize-giving ceremony in Ahenkro, Ashanti Region, LilWin lamented the intentional negative stories circulating on social media.

He stated that he has never harmed anyone and would never purposely cause an accident that could risk his own life.

“With the recent issue that happened to me, people called me proud and disrespectful, yet I have never fought with anyone or stolen from anyone in Ghana before. I can’t tell if it’s because of the school I built, the house I live in, or the car I drive. There is no reason for me to intentionally orchestrate an accident that could kill me,” he cried.

Despite this, LilWin affirmed his dedication to his philanthropic work and his commitment to making a positive difference in society.

“Good deeds get good rewards. Several years after when I am old, I want to hear an MP say that he or she got his or her education from the school I built. May God bless everyone, especially those who sent their children to my school. Due to the overflow of students in my school, I have built another school two minutes away from the first building to accommodate more students,” he added.

In a video, Lil Win gifted a house to his childhood friend, surrounded by her husband, family, and loved ones.

Lil Win shared that during one of their conversations, his friend confided in him about her marital difficulties and the substandard living conditions she faced.

The Kumawood actor mentioned that although he was involved in a court case related to a car accident in Kumasi that tragically killed a 3-year-old boy, it didn’t impede the construction of the house.

He also noted that he was able to present the house because the court had rescheduled the proceedings to September 26, 2024, allowing him the time to make the presentation.

In the video, Lil Win handed over the keys to his friend and her family, moving her to tears and eliciting cheers from the assembled guests.

Lil Win is not at fault for hitting toddler with his car – Lawyer tells court

The lawyer representing Ghanaian actor Kwadwo Nkansah, (Lil Win), has maintained her client’s innocence concerning an accident that tragically resulted in the death of a three-year-old boy.

Margaret Mary Adjei Twum, the attorney, expressed optimism that Lil Win would not face prosecution as the court awaits guidance from the Attorney General’s office.

She firmly stated that Lil Win was not responsible for the incident.

Kwadwo Nkansah was apprehended on Monday, June 3, 2024, in relation to the accident involving his vehicle, which led to the child’s death.

He was granted bail amounting to 50,000 Ghana Cedis with two sureties by the Asokore Mampong district court.

In previous court sessions, the prosecution revealed that the case dossier had been forwarded to the Attorney General’s office for review. On Monday, July 29, 2024, the court reiterated that the case is still under consideration by the Attorney General.

After the latest court hearing, Margaret Mary Adjei Twum commented that the incident and its ensuing negative publicity have had a detrimental impact on the actor.

“In fact, those incidents have really affected him. The way we were praying that the movie, ‘A Country Called Ghana’, how it was supposed to go because of the accidents and the media and also the negative comments around it has somehow affected the movie itself. But what can you say? Somebody is dead. So we are not thinking in terms of comics.”

“We want to think as reasonable human beings. And then we pray that as time flies, the family of the deceased will have some sort of comfort, and closure. We are not so much conscious about the money. Now we pray that the family members will be healed and then things will be fine.”

“We will defend because we are so standing on his innocence. We still believe in his innocence until proven otherwise. We will still pursue our posture and the theory of our case will change when we have the reports from the Attorney General.”

Boy’s family seek justice after crash with Ghana actor

The family of a three-year-old boy killed in a car crash involving popular Ghanaian actor and musician Lil Win have said they are “determined to seek justice”.

The child died in a hospital in the city of Kumasi after the crash on 25 May, local media reports.

Lil Win, real name Kwadwo Nkansah, was also taken to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital – and arrested on Monday after being discharged.

In a statement issued before his arrest, the actor’s production company had called the crash a “tragic accident”.

Lil Win was charged with dangerous driving and causing harm through negligence at Kumasi’s Asokore Mampong District Court on Monday.

He was not asked to enter a plea and was granted bail for 50,000 Ghanaian cedis (£2,630; £3,355). The court adjourned the case until 27 June.

Afterwards, two relatives of the three-year-old boy, Nana Yaw, told local radio station Angel FM that they were counting on the police to investigate the matter thoroughly.

One of the men said: “We are determined to seek justice for our child.”

The family members accused Lil Win of failing to contact the family after the crash—until he heard that a young child had died. The actor has not commented on the allegation.

The boy’s father, Jacob Kofi Amponsah, remains in the hospital.

The premiere of Lil Win’s new film, A Country Called Ghana, was cancelled in the wake of the collision.

It was scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 1, in Sunyani, a city around 123 km (76 miles) away from Kumasi, but Lil Win’s production company, Wezzy Empire, called it off.

“This difficult decision was made in respect of the memory of three-year-old boy Nana Yaw, who unfortunately lost his life in a tragic accident involving our Chief Executive Officer, Kwadko Nkansah ‘Lil Win’ last Saturday and to join the family in mourning their loss,” a statement posted to Lil Win’s social media accounts last Thursday said.

“The CEO extends their sincere condolences to the bereaved family and wishes a speedy recovery to the father, Mr. Jacob Kofi Amponsah.”

Ghanaian Kumawood sensation, Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win, is making waves with his latest cinematic endeavor, “A Country Called Ghana,” as he successfully ropes in renowned Nollywood stars Ramsey Noah and Victor Osuagwu, popularly known as Awilo Sharp Sharp overcoming previous rejection from Martha Ankomah.

The award-winning Nollywood actors landed in Accra on February 19, 2024, with anticipation building for additional high-profile stars to join the project.

Lil Win, who recently made headlines for a social media clash with Ghallywood actress Martha Ankomah, is showcasing resilience and determination as he assembles a star-studded cast for his ambitious film, dispelling any doubts about the quality of Kumawood productions.

Go and apologise to Martha and stop ‘fooling’ – Oboi Siki tells LilWin

Ghanaian veteran actor, Oboy Siki, has urged his embattled colleague, Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as LilWin, to consider apologising to Martha Ankomah to resolve their dispute instead of pursuing legal action.

Oboy Siki emphasised that LilWin has faced legal challenges before due to his remarks, indicating a need for him to learn from past experiences and seek an amicable resolution.

During an interview with Angle FM, Oboy Siki criticised LilWin for his statements and advised him to extend an apology to Martha Ankomah before the situation escalates further.

“LilWin does not have wise people in his circle because what he said was outrageous. He should follow up on the issue before it’s too late. I don’t care whether he has regretted his actions or not. He should stop fooling and hurriedly go and apologise to Martha Ankomah.

“He’s got into a similar issue before when he was sued and dealt with for messing around with a politician. Even though the case has gone to court, he should be fast and see the woman’s family and render an apology instead of facing her in court,” he advised.

Since LilWin posted a video of NDC General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketiah saying “Any idiot can go to court” on his Instagram page after the news of him being sued became rife, the actor has received backlash for his conduct.

    Background

Actress Martha Ankomah has taken legal action against fellow actor LilWin, filing a defamation lawsuit on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

Ankomah alleges that LilWin, without provocation, launched a social media attack against her on February 8, 2024, accusing her of consistently rejecting offers from movie directors to appear in Kumawood films, the Twi-language movie industry.

She contends that LilWin’s statements, among other things, are false and malicious, causing her reputational damage and disfavour among the public.

Martha Ankomah, represented by her lawyer Nii Apatu Plange of Ankoma-Sey, Apatu Plange & Partners, is seeking legal recourse to hold LilWin accountable for defamation and restore her reputation. She has outlined six specific demands to address the matter.

    a. Damages in the sum of 5 million Ghana cedis for the defamatory statements made by Defendant.

    b. Compensatory damages for the damage done to the reputation of Plaintift.

    c. Aggravated damages for the reckless and malicious publication of the defamatory words.

    d. An order directing the Defendant to publish an apology and a retraction of the said defamatory words with the same prominence.

    e. Injunction restraining the Defendant from further publishing and causing to be published the said or similar words defamatory of Plaintiff.

Chris Hughton takes “order from above” for player substitution, selection – LilWin after call with some players

Ghanaian actor Kwadwo Nkansah, also known as LilWin, has shared details about a conversation he had with some Black Stars players following the team’s exit from the African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

LilWin revealed that, according to the players, certain officials at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) compelled coach Chris Hughton to include players in the squad who did not merit their positions.

In his account, LilWin stated that the players informed him that some of the substitutions made by Chris Hughton were not of his own accord but were influenced by directives from higher authorities.

These decisions, pressured by external instructions, allegedly contributed to the team’s struggles and poor performance in the AFCON tournament.

“Some of the Black Stars players called me and told me that it was not their fault entirely for the poor performance. From the conversation, Ghanaians should rather be angry at the GFA, not the players or the coach. Orders from above forced Chris Hughton to name some players in the squad for the games, which was against his will.

“After the coach has named his squad, there will be calls and pressure from the top for him to include some players and he had to obey because they appointed him. It was part of the reasons why he made certain changes you wouldn’t understand,” he said in a video shared on his Instagram page.

LilWin further warned the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to desist from interfering in the job of coaches to help the Black Stars thrive in tournaments.

“So we are telling the GFA to allow the coaches to work and stop the interference. If a player deserves to play in the first half, that’s fine; if not, they should stop the order from above to influence the coach’s decision. If this continues, then the Black Stars should be dissolved,” he added.

“I am not afraid of anybody, I will release that song” – Lilwin on threats against releasing political song

Ghanaian actor and politician Kwadwo Nkansah, widely known as Lil Win, disclosed that he has faced threats following his announcement of releasing a campaign song in support of his selected political party.

The multifaceted artist, also involved in music, stated his intention to release the song on December 1.

However, in a video shared on his Instagram page on November 30, Lil Win revealed that he has been receiving calls from unidentified individuals cautioning him against releasing any song endorsing a political party.

“I announced that I was making a song in support of my chosen political party and that I would be releasing it on the 1st of December. Right after that, some individuals who refused to identify themselves have been calling me and threatening me against releasing the song,” he said.

Lil Win declared he would not be bothered by any threats and that he is committed to releasing the song regardless of the repercussions.

“I am not afraid of anybody, I will release that song, and there is nothing anyone from any political party or otherwise can do to me,” he fumed.

Lil Win’s political affiliation remains undisclosed; however, social media users have issued safety warnings to the musician and suggested that he hold off on releasing the song.

Lil Win declared earlier in August that he would run as an independent for the Ashanti Region’s Afigya Kwabre South seat as a member of parliament.

I bought koko for GhS8, we can’t stay in Ghana – Lil Win

Comic actor Kwadwo Nkansah Lil Win has expressed dismay at Ghana’s tough economic conditions, especially in the rise of food prices.

Lil Win shares a video highlighting the small quantity of porridge he purchased for GH¢8 in Adenta, Accra, and comments on the high cost.

“The country is very hard; I never knew the economy was this challenging,” says Lil Win, noting the inflated prices of basic foods.

He humorously suggested that gobe (gari and beans) might cost GH¢200 if porridge is priced at GH¢8.

“I swear by mother and the water I drink, the country is very hard, I swear by God. I never knew the economy is this hard.

“This is GH¢8 worth of koko with just sugar. This should’ve been the size of GH¢1 or GH¢2 worth of koko but this is GH¢8 at Adenta in Accra.

“It doesn’t even include milk or groundnut; I am sure that will make it GH¢40. If koko is selling at GH¢8 I am sure gobe (gari and beans) will go for GH¢200. The country is indeed difficult,” he stated.

Ghana’s economy has faced difficulties since late 2019, leading to rising living costs and steep price hikes for goods and services.

The government attributes these challenges to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war but remains optimistic about the economy’s future.

  • Lil Win recounts how an airline denied him access to shoot a movie despite willing to pay $5000

Ghanaian actor and producer Kwadwo Nkansah, also known as Lil Win, has opened out about the difficulties that the entertainment industry face regarding finding suitable sites for their productions.

Speaking in an interview with Zion Felix, Lil Win detailed how an airline denied his production team the use of an airplane for a movie shoot, even after agreeing to pay a fee of $5,000.

“Let’s say you need the airport for a project. You will send letters and everything, but you will never be granted access. And when you are denied access and you compromise to shoot the movie, you will bitterly be criticized for not using the airport scene as it needed to be.”

“The reason why we were unable to feature the airport is that we even wanted to use an actual plane in the movie, and we were willing to pay. A fee of $3,000 was quoted for Kumasi and $5,000 for Accra. We were willing to pay, but the airline refused,” he shared.

According to the award-winning actor, movie producers are unfairly criticized for producing mediocre content, while they are compelled to improvise.

“I don’t understand it when the movie comes out and they criticize us that it is not nice. If we were given access to the plane, we would have landed it nicely in the movie. But we don’t get it; you want a police station for a shoot, you won’t be given; military uniform, you will not get it; you request access to a hospital for a shoot, and you are equally denied. Meanwhile, the story requires that you feature the hospital, airport, or police station to complete the story,” he bemoaned.

He added that the situation in Nigeria is not the same, as the country boasts a more supportive and enabling industry. More sadly, he emphasized that producers in Ghana are denied access even when they are willing to pay.

Players in the entertainment industry, mostly YouTubers, have been voicing their struggles in the industry following an altercation between popular skit maker Dr. Likee and security officers at the Achimota Mall.

The popular comedy skit maker was prevented from shooting a video at the mall on the grounds of not obtaining appropriate permission.

Several players in the industry, including Ghana’s biggest YouTuber, Wode Maya, have condemned the incident captured in a viral video.

“Is there any other continent apart from Africa that you need to ask for permission to shoot a video around a shopping mall, train station, airport, and so-called public areas? When I was based in China, I literally filmed everywhere, and sometimes you even get paid to film in such areas… This village mentality needs to stop in 2023!” he stated in a tweet.

“It’s about time content creators in Africa unite and speak against harassment while filming in public areas… The new digital media is here, and you all should get used to it,” he said in a subsequent post.

On how he generated cash, Lil Win, in an epistle on Instagram, said he raised the money from TikTok for the Street Disability Project.
