Lydia Forson, a celebrated Ghanaian actress, writer, and producer, has shared her decade-long struggle with fibroids in a heartfelt post on X, formerly known as Twitter, to mark Fibroid Awareness Month.
The ‘Scorned’ star opened up about the often overlooked pain many women endure, encouraging them to seek medical help. “July is Fibroid Awareness Month. To the women living in constant pain, undergoing multiple surgeries, facing questions about children or being mistaken for being pregnant due to fibroids, you’re not alone,” Forson wrote. “I endured pain for 10 years before getting help.”
Forson recounted the intense pain and fear she experienced over the years. “Today, I am grateful that I no longer live in such pain, grateful that no one will find me paralyzed on a bathroom floor, grateful that I no longer need emergency care, and even more grateful to be alive to share my story when some aren’t.”
Her story, she says, is more complex than what she has shared publicly. Yet, she hopes it will inspire other women to take proactive steps regarding their health.
“My story is more complicated than I’ve shared, and this is just a summary. But to any woman reading this, I hope you’re inspired to run tests, ask questions about your body, and not feel alone with the challenges you face.”
Forson’s openness about her health challenges is a significant step in raising awareness about fibroids, a condition affecting many women globally but often surrounded by silence and stigma. Her message is clear: women should not suffer in silence but instead seek the medical attention and support they need.
Ghanaian celebrities, including rapper Sarkodie, have joined growing public calls for the arrest of a radio presenter who openly confessed to engaging in sexual activities with a 14-year-old girl.
In a viral video, the presenter spoke on Sompa FM about how he had a sexual relationship with the girl from when she was 14 years old until she completed Kumasi Academy.
Actress Lydia Forson expressed concern that the victim would be blamed while the abuser would be excused.
Sarkodie responded to Forson’s post, stating that the presenter “should not be walking around freely” and calling for his arrest.
Similar demands for the presenter’s arrest are being made by numerous social media users who are condemning his confession of pedophilia.
In a viral social media video, the presenter, speaking on Sompa FM, shared a story about how he engaged in a sexual relationship with a girl from the age of 14.
“I started having sex with a girl at the age of 14… Her father was a wealthy man in Dormaa Ahenkro, she had a body, and I slept with her from class six until she completed Kumasi Academy,” he stated.
Renowned Ghanaian actress Lydia Forson has lashed out at politicians, attributing Ghana’s struggle to pass an anti-LGBTQ+ bill to their dependence on foreign aid.
Forson contends that the nation’s inability to assert its sovereignty hampers the government’s capacity to make decisive choices on the matter.
Speaking out on social media, Forson emphasised the urgency for politicians to redirect their focus towards building a self-sufficient country.
She underscored the impact of Ghana’s reliance on foreign aid, asserting that it leaves politicians susceptible to external influence.
“This is the wake-up call to ALL your politicians to focus on building a self-sufficient country! Until you’re able to stop depending so much on foreign aid and begging all the time; the West will continue to dictate how you dance. So maybe SHUT UP and get to work!” Forson said in a passionate post.
The actress’s comments come amid ongoing debates and discussions within Ghanaian political circles about the proposed anti-LGBTQ+ bill.
The bill has faced significant opposition both domestically and internationally, with critics arguing that it infringes upon human rights and promotes discrimination.
Forson’s words resonate with those who advocate for a more independent and sovereign Ghana, free from external pressures.
As the country grapples with socio-political challenges, her call for politicians to focus on internal development rather than relying on foreign aid has sparked a renewed conversation on the nation’s path towards self-sufficiency.
It remains to be seen how Forson’s outspoken stance will influence the political landscape and whether it will prompt a shift in priorities among Ghanaian leaders.

Forson, known for her outspoken views, asserts that the challenges plaguing Ghana’s football scene are not isolated incidents but reflect a persistent issue.
In her commentary, Forson draws parallels between the longstanding economic challenges in the country and the issues surrounding football.
According to her, just as economic problems have endured, football-related concerns have been prevalent for years.
Delving into her own experience, Forson recounted a past stint as a professional football player, revealing that the promised bonuses by the GFA were never delivered.
She expressed her disappointment, asserting, “The sad thing about our football is that like everything in this country, the problems didn’t start today. I remember playing pro football once ( long long story don’t ask, those who know know) and never getting the bonuses they promised. The way e pain me till date.”
Forson’s remarks shed light on the deep-rooted issues within Ghanaian football, emphasising that the challenges faced by the current national team are not new but part of a historical pattern.
As debates over the GFA’s role and the performance of the Black Stars continue, Forson’s perspective adds a nuanced dimension to the ongoing discourse surrounding Ghanaian football.
Hundreds of Ghanaian football fans embarked on a demonstration to express their displeasure over the decline in the achievements of the national teams.
The protestors, who started their march at the Obra Spot, seeked reforms towards reviving the game, which is the passion of the nation.
A group of sports journalists are the organisers.
The “Save Ghana Football Demo”, as it is dubbed, was triggered by the poor performance of the senior national team, the Black Stars, at the just-ended 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Some of the protestors carried placards with inscriptions: “Decline in our juvenile football- Sika Di Basabasa,” “Lack of Vision,” Our Domestic League has collapsed”, among others
There is heavy security accompanying demonstrators as they walk through the principal streets of Accra to present a proposal of football reforms to the Sports Authorities.
Ghanaian actress, entrepreneur, and outspoken feminist Lydia Forson has offered insights into why some men seem to prefer women with limited financial means.
In a recent tweet circulating on social media, Forson suggested that these men may be drawn to dating women who are financially dependent because it grants them a sense of power and control.
According to Forson, some men purposefully choose young or financially reliant partners to exert influence over them.
She argued that these men may become agitated when they lose control, and their aversion to financially independent women stems from the belief that they cannot easily dictate their actions.
In her tweet on the platform formerly known as Twitter, Forson asserted, “Some men know EXACTLY what they’re doing when they pick young girls or those who don’t have to spend on. It’s about power and control. It’s why they get so aggressive when they can’t control them any longer. It’s also why they don’t like women who have their own money!!”

Ghanaian actress Lydia Forson has descended on netizens for trolling Popular Youtuber Miss Elorm Ababio, also known as Ama Governor
These trolls come at the back of yet another setback in her journey to be called to the bar as a lawyer.
The General Legal Council (GLC) announced on Wednesday, October 18, 2023; that it had suspended the Call to the Bar application by Ama Governor.
Despite having successfully passed all her mandatory examinations in 2022, the GLC’s decision is based on a scrutiny of her conduct leading up to her application, as revealed in a letter signed by Judicial Secretary, Justice Cyra Pamela C. A. Koranteng.
This development has gained significant attention on social media platforms, with users sharing their thoughts and opinions on the matter. Ama Governor has now been in the spotlight multiple times over issues related to her Call to the Bar.
Some criticised Ama Governor, suggesting that her recent pronouncements about her sexuality and the outcome of the committee that heard the anonymous petition against her call last year may have contributed to her current situation.
On the other hand, there are those who defend her right to be who she wants to be and question the need for the GLC’s current position. Among those backing her is Lydia Forson, taking to her Twitter handle, said “Ama Govenor will be fine, she may suffer a lot of pain, hurt, and frustration, but eventually she will be fine. History never remembers the silent, but those who challenged the system and made their voices heard. You and your trolling on the other hand will be forgotten”
Ghanaian actress, Roselyn Ngissah, has earned a nomination for the “Best Actress in a Comedy Movie and TV Series” category at this year’s Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).

Actress Lydia Forson has requested journalists to be sensitive and respectful of bereaved family members’ right to privacy.
Her call over Twitter was in response to an incident that occurred at the memorial service for her friend Christian Atsu, where it was said that a reporter had questioned the deceased’s son about his feelings.
Many criticized the journalist for being inconsiderate to the situation and hardship of the young boy who merely smiled without responding after the comment went viral on social media.
“Funerals are not concerts or for entertainment! Reporters should learn some decorum in how they cover and engage with mourners! How do you ask someone if they’re “sad”?!
“And shoving cameras in peoples faces and not giving them even a moment of privacy. Like?!!” Forson’s tweet of March 17 read.
She was part of wellwishers who thronged State House forecourt for the final funeral of the former Black Stars player. Atsu has since been interred in his hometown.
The March 17, 2023 final funeral rites of Christian Atsu attracted people from all walks of life as the forecourt of the State House buzzed with activity.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his vice were in attendance along with a high-powered government delegation. Also in attendance was the former president John Dramani Mahama.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) was led by its president Kurt Okraku who also led members of the association and a group of former Black Stars players.
Atsu died in the February 6 earthquake that struck Turkey and parts of Syria. He was declared missing till his remains were recovered on February 18.
Ghanaian actress Lydia Forson has reacted following comments after one of her fans asked her to give birth to a child to serve as a legacy when she’s no more.
The actress has shared a message one of her fans sent to her in her private message. According to Lydia, she wouldn’t have shared it but the pressure she is facing from fans is too much for her.
According to the message shared by Lydia Forson, the fan who expressed her love for the actress advised her to get a man to get her pregnant so she can have at least one baby to continue her legacy. The fan also added that if the actress is not ready or willing to get married she should at least live the world a child from her.
Lydia Forson who shared the message from the fan slammed fans who run into her DM to pressure her on either getting married or having babies. She described it as an act that lacks love. She also slammed the fan saying that babies are not bought on Amazon, a shopping website.
“I’m only sharing this here so people who send/say this daily understand that this is NOT love. Love will have the emotional intelligence to know that babies are NOT bought on Amazon; nor do they guarantee your legacy lives on. Stop policing women’s wombs.”
Talented Ghanaian actress Lydia Forson has warned her fans to desist from sneaking videos and pictures of her using public washrooms and sharing such content on social media.
According to her, she has lost count of the times fans have recorded her using public washrooms in places such as restaurants.
Expressing her displeasure at fans who are fond of that, she noted that it is wrong behaviour.
“Imagine I did this to you and posted on the internet? Not cool,” she emphasised in her statement.
In a separate tweet, she urged her fans to politely ask for a picture or video from her when they meet her in public spaces.
She added that when fans ask politely, she might be willing to take a few pictures or videos with them.
She concluded her message by saying she might not always be in the mood to take pictures. Hence fans should understand that she is human and has bad days too.
Ghanaians share their thoughts on Lydia Forson’s plight
@AmarexJay:

Ghanaian actress Lydia Forson, has cautioned Ghanaians not to rely on any minister who quits their position to run for President.
According to her, they cannot be trusted because most of them they fail to recognise problems in society adding that Ghanaians must resist the hypocrisy of such politicians.
“Do not trust any presidential candidate who only resigned to run for president and not because they saw wrongdoing and wanted to do the right thing,” she wrote.
Her post comes a few days after Trade Minister, Alan Kyeremanten, tendered a resignation letter to President Nana Akufo-Addo for his bid to contest for the flagbearership slot of the NPP.
It is, however, unclear why he resigned after serving at the Trade Ministry since 2017, and it is believed that he took the decision to enable him properly focus on his presidential ambition.
The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto officially resigned on January 10, 2023.
According to sources he resigned to focus on his Presidential ambition as he wants to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2024 general elections.
The actress is and continues to be one of the biggest critics of bad governance in the country. The actress has maintained such a position for several years and continues to fight for the people of Ghana regardless of which government is in power.
In a shocking piece of news that broke the internet, a popular American dancer, tWitch, was found dead in a hotel from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Following the dancer’s passing, Lydia Forson posted on Twitter her reflections on what she thinks every time she learns about someone who has committed suicide.
She said that she can envision how difficult it must be for cheerful individuals to maintain their optimism each day of their life, as well as how lonely it must have been for them.
“Every time I read about suicide all I can think of is how hard the person must have fought to stay happy and how alone they must have felt.
“Sending light to everyone going through it mentally, it’s not easy,” she tweeted on December 14, 2022.

Stephen Boss, also known by his stage as DJ tWitch, was said to have died on December 14, 2022, at a Los Angeles hotel. Media outlets report that he reportedly killed himself and was declared dead at the scene.
According to TMZ, Stephen “tWitch” Boss, who gained notoriety on the Ellen DeGeneres program’s wife, Allison Holker hurried to an LAPD station on Tuesday, distraught at her husband’s apparent departure from the house without his car.
His wife alerted the authorities because that was uncharacteristic of him, and shortly after that, emergency medical services were called to a hotel in Los Angeles.
Stephen was discovered at the same hotel, seemingly dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The minister told the media that road users won’t be paying 50 pesewas, GH¢1 from 2023.
According to the minister, all work will be done electronically, not manually.
In response to this announcement, actress Lydia Forson believes the government thinks Ghanaians are blockheaded.
“I am convinced that we’re being governed by people who believe us to be stupid. You stopped something we weren’t complaining about to avert attention from what you were really doing, only to come back to this.
“This is why we don’t trust anything good you do,” she tweeted.

The finance minister while presenting the budget announced the elimination of road tolls despite opposition that road tolls were not collected for the entire 2022 financial year.
Making a U-turn, the government told parliament that “the fiscal policy measures to underpin the 2023 Budget for consideration and approval by Parliament include the reintroduction of tolls on selected public roads and highways with a renewed focus on leveraging technology in the collection to address the inefficiencies characterized by the previous toll collection regime.”
Lydia, an ardent critic of the New Patriotic Party government, has once again provided reasons why the huge fortunes being pumped into the building of the National Cathedral should be channeled into the construction of basic social amenities for citizens.
According to the award-winning actress who continues to face stiff opposition for her clap backs at the government, there are more pressing needs like the provision of water, electricity, and roads instead of a Cathedral.
“When you think about it, Ghanaians are not asking for much oh. Good roads, stable electricity, water, hospitals and just the basics for human survival. Instead we’re getting a cathedral, expensive restaurants and real estate and everything else the average Ghanaian can’t afford,” Lydia tweeted.
Ghana’s Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, during the 2023 Budget reading in Parliament announced that the government had earmarked GH₵80,000,000 for the construction of the infamous cathedral.
This brings the total amount dedicated to the project to GH₵420,000,000.

Actress Lydia Forson has poked leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Gabby Asare Otcere-Darko with respect to current economic challenges Ghana is facing.
Miss Forson, who is known for her hot takes on the economy and politics, coughed up a tweet Gabby authored in 2015 when the NPP was in opposition, she quoted the tweet and sarcastically greeted Gabby.
Gabby’s post read: “If running an economy was all about borrowing your way into an unsustainable debt hole then any half wit could be president.”
Lydia Forson’s quoted tweet of December 5, 2022; read: “Hello from the other side,” accompanied by an emoji of a waving hand.
The Minister of Finance announced a number of measures under government’s Domestic Debt Exchange (DDE) programme late Sunday.
He stated in a 4-minute address that the announcement was in line with government’s Debt Sustainability Analysis as contained in the 2023 budget he presented to Parliament on November 24.
The Minister laid out among others the exchange of existing domestic bonds with four new ones as well as their maturity dates and terms of coupon payments.
He also addressed the overarching goal of the government relative to its engagements with the International Monetary Fund as well as measures to minimize impact of domestic bond exchange on different stakeholders.
“The Government of Ghana has been working hard to minimize the impact of the domestic debt exchange on investors holding government bonds, particularly small investors, individuals, and other vulnerable groups,” he said before outlining three main measures:
• Treasury Bills are completely exempted and all holders will be paid the full value of their investments on maturity.
• There will be NO haircut on the principal of bonds.
• Individual holders of bonds will not be affected.
Lydia Forson has failed to understand why the government decided to impose more taxes on citizens at a time when many are suffering in poverty amid a high inflation rate.
According to Lydia who believes that times are hard, several Ghanaians are battling depression due to the bad economy coupled with the high cost of living.
“When you think about how hard things are in this country, it can easily send you into depression. In fact I’m almost certain a majority of us are battling depression; we just force ourselves through it each day. Worse is that we’re being led by people who don’t care,” she tweeted on November 28.
In a separate post that also highlighted the plight of Ghanaians, the actress who has been vocal about issues that affect citizens listed a number of things that continue to drain the pocket of many.
“A lot of people are unemployed, those who aren’t, barely make enough to survive each month. Between transportation, accommodation and food, you barely have enough for anything else. But your leaders believe, let’s TAX them some more,” said.
As earlier reported by GhanaWeb Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta at the 2023 Budget Reading announced that government has reviewed upwards the Value Added Tax (VAT) by 2.5 percent.
Speaking in Parliament on November 24, Mr Ofori-Atta said: “Mr Speaker, the demand for roads has become the cry of many communities in the country. Unfortunately, with the current economic difficulties and the absence of a dedicated source of funding for road construction, it is difficult to meet these demands. In that regard, we are proposing the implementation of new revenue measures. The major one is an increase in the VAT rate by 2.5 percentage points. This will be complemented by a major compliance programme to ensure that we derive the maximum yields from existing revenue handles.”

Social media has been filled with cheers and excitement especially from Ghanaian celebrities, following the Black Stars impressive 2-0 win against Switzerland in a warm-up friendly on Thursday.
The Black Stars defeated Switzerland after series of losses in their last two friendly games in preparation of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, scheduled for November 2022.
The national football team put a smile on the faces of Ghanaians after defeating Switzerland in a pre-World Cup friendly game after many lost faith in the team.
Following the end of the game, many Ghanaian celebrities took to Twitter to share their joy and pledge their support to the Black Stars.
The likes of Sandra Ankobiah, Serwaa Amihere, Nana Aba Anamoah, Lydia Forson, Pappy Kojo and many others have taken to their social media walls to react to the Black Stars win in various ways.
Sandra Ankobiah
The lawyer earned a title as a prophetess after correctly predicting the outcome of the Ghana- Switzerland game.
Before the match scheduled for Thursday, November, 17, 2022, Ms Ankobiah had in a tweet predicted a 2-o scoreline against the Swiss team.
Award-winning actress Lydia Forson took her celebration to another level by sharing a video of herself rocking her Afro as she happily screamed “goal.”
Lydia Forson has gotten netizens talking with a post she shared on social media about Africans’ roles during the colonial era.
According to the actress on Twitter, people will someday come to realize why leaders plan to keep their subordinates poor.
She added that only racist people hurriedly shift blame when it comes to poor leadership and governance.
“We don’t talk enough about the role Africans played in the slave trade, only because racists will jump at anything to shift blame.
“But someday we’re going to have, to understand why our leaders keep us in poverty. There are many who benefit from our underdevelopment, many!” she said.
We don’t talk enough about the role Africans played in the slave trade, only because racist will jump at ANYTHING to shift blame.
But someday we’re going to have to, to understand why our leaders keep us in poverty.
There are many who benefit from our underdevelopment, MANY!
Her post somehow got netizens who shared her sentiments to react and share their views.
In some social media reactions, a user said, “Africans always blame their woes and misfortune on external occurrences or events ignoring the part they played in the outcome.
“We’re the cause of our own problems. For instance, taking money from some foreigners to pave way for them to adventure into heinous activities.”
Another added, “True, there is a place in Ghana where it is a taboo to talk about the involvement of the locals in the slave trade.”
“It is only he that cannot find a solution to a problem, that blames his past for his failures but a problem-solving mind worries not of who or what caused the problem, rather ponders daily and find a solution. America was colonised but I’m yet to hear them mention it in a conversation,” a third added.
Almost every Ghanaian is currently feeling the economic hardship in the country but Evangelist Diana Asamoah insists otherwise.
Speaking in an interview with Sammy Kay Media, Diana Asamoahsaid that she is not experiencing the torture of the economic hardships of the country as many citizens are complaining.
According to her, the people complaining about economic hardships don’t know God and that the reason they are suffering and not because of Nana Addo’s incompetence.
“Forget about the economy; the children are enjoying free education. I’ve only heard the complaints and I’m not experiencing any of those.”
The Onyame Tumfo hitmaker added that her faith in God has always seen her through difficult moments and entreated people to always trust in God.
“I’m blessed beyond measure. I have faith in God and I find comfort in Daniel 11:32, which says that those who behave wickedly against the covenant he will corrupt with flattery, but the people who know their God will be strong and perform great deeds. People who are complaining do not know God.”
She urged Ghanaians who are lamenting about the country’s declining economic fortunes to also turn to God for relief.
A lot of personalities including actors Lydia Forson, Yvonne Nelson and Prince David Osei have publicly condemned the government for the poor economic conditions of the country.
In a 25-second video making rounds on social media, the group of girls who have been identified as second-year students of Chiana Senior High School in the Kassena Nankana West District were heard chastising the president in a manner that has been described as utterly ‘disrespectful’.
The said video has since garnered backlashes from a large section of the public, including the Ghana Education Service, which has gone on to condemn the act and apologize to the president in a press statement spotted on social media.
“Management of Ghana Education Service (GES) condemns this unfortunate act which is against every educational and moral principle in our society. We wish to also assure the general public that the outcome of the investigations will be more known as soon as it is concluded,” parts of the statement read.
But Lydia Forson believes that the students’ conduct is as a result of learning all sorts of bad habits from prominent Ghanaian leaders over the period.
In a long thread of Twitter posts, Lydia insisted that some government officials, including parliamentarians, have no moral right to chastise these students as they have been bad examples.
“From radio, to television and even politicians fighting and stealing ballots in parliament, children are watching the adults in their lives behave poorly daily! How do we expect better, when we’re no better? We are failing these children.
We need to stop trying to hold children more accountable than the adults who’re supposed to set examples for them to emulate.
We’re raising a generation of children who witness corruption, lack of accountability, and badly behaved leaders, and magically expect them to be better?

To her, she said Ghanaian leaders are doing very little in terms of grooming young ones to take their place someday.

Government has come under criticism from a cross-section of the public due to the current economic crisis.
In the wake of this, Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has been at the receiving end from almost all and sundry.
While the “ordinary citizens” have been agitating on and off social media, Ghanaian celebrities have also not held back from expressing their dissatisfaction against government.
In the past week, some Ghanaian celebrities have called on President Nana Akufo-Addo and the Minister of Finance to sit up and address the economic crisis fraught the country.
Below are some celebrities who have waded into the national conversation
The Ghanaian actor is one of the familiar supporters of the ruling government. He, alongside other celebrities like Kalybos was seen to be involved heavily clothed in NPP paraphernalia campaigning for the then Presidential Candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
However, the movie star has openly displayed his disappointment in the government. In a tweet sighted by GhanaWeb, Prince called on government to seek help.
“Can we all put aside politics, humble ourselves and seek help from whoever has the ideas or in-depth knowledge on how to stop the further depreciation of our currency and stabilize our economy,” he tweeted.
The movie producer and actress is another popular figure who has not held back from bashing the government and calling for urgent steps to change the current tides.
In 2015, Yvonne Nelson led a demonstration against power cuts in Ghana, popularly known as “Dumsor”. Being a citizen and not a spectator as President Akufo-Addo implored Ghanaians, the model has this time taken to Twitter to quiz the President over his governance.
“Are you still the President? Are you still in this country? Are you this heartless? Do you hear people crying? Are you this heartless? No more campaign ahead so you are unbothered. You obviously feel nothing for Ghanaians. Such a disappointment”, she lamented.
The Ghanaian actress and social critic have also been vociferous over the state of affairs. She has opined that the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori Atta, needs to resign.
According to her, the minister has performed woefully and thus is unfit to continue occupying his position.
Furthermore, she has asked the government to take a cue from Britain, whose Prime Minister has resigned her inability to lead.
“I really wish Gabby Otchere Darko’s obsession & admiration for the UK parliament included taking pointers as well on resignations and firing. It makes absolutely no sense that Ken Ofori Attah is still the finance minister; how? He’s lost the confidence of the people! She said in a tweet.
The Ghanaian media personality and General Manager of GHOne TV and Starr FM has penned a long letter to Ken Ofori Atta.
The TV host in the letter discusses how the minister has failed in his capacity and needs him to resign. She called the minister an absolute failure in managing the economy and driving it into an abyss.
A portion of the letter reads, “Hmm. Maybe a part of you wants to leave and your cousin (President Akufo Addo-Addo) is backing you to the hilt on the altar of loyalty. But for God’s, spare the entire nation this prolonged spectacle of failure and let go of the burning rod.”
Calls for the dismissal of the Minister for Finance and Economic Planning, Ken Ofori-Atta, have heightened in the last couple of weeks following the wobblign state of the economy.
In spite of the fact that netizens have taken to social media to whine and call for the dismissal of the Finance Minister, President Akufo-Addo has disregarded their solicitations.
In some way or another, this got a few well-known individuals to pound on the Minister’s renunciation since the economic slump has forced government to seek a financial rescue programme from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
President Akufo-Addo on August 8, while talking in an exclusive interview on Tamale-based North Star radio, during an official tour to the region shielded his ministers.
He noted that they have been working hard while expressing their outputs have been extensive.
GhanaWeb in this article puts together a list of some public figures pushing for the resignation of the Finance Minister.
Nana Oye Bampoh Addo
Former Gender Minister, Nana Oye Bampoh Addo, joined calls for Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, to resign.
She believes as the main gatekeeper of the national economy, the Minister must take responsibility for the economic downturn the country is experiencing.
Nana Oye pointed out that the approach that the National Democratic Congress government in 2015 used to secure a programme from the International Monetary Fund was different from that of this government.
Kwabena Agyei Agyapong
Former General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, has also hammered on the resignation of Ken Ofori-Atta.
According to Mr Agyapong, the main reason for his call was the decision of the government to seek an economic rescue programme with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) – a position that the Minister had vehemently opposed publicly and vowed will not be taken.
Mr Agyapong added that the Minister must on his own volition tender his resignation because of his anti-IMF statements and having “got it wrong.”
Lydia Forson
Entertainment personality, Lydia Forson, following the resignation of the UK’s Prime Minster, Liz Truss, questioned the rationale behind Ken Ofori-Atta’s decision to stay in office as the Minister of Finance.
According to her, Ghanaians have lost confidence in Ken Ofori-Atta as the Minister of Finance due to the economic downturn currently being faced by Ghanaians.
In a tweet sighted by GhanaWeb, she said, “It makes absolutely no sense that Ken Ofori-Atta is still the finance minister, how? He’s lost the confidence of the people!”
Nana Aba Anamoah
Lydia’s views were not different from media personality, Nana Aba Anamoah, who has also pushed for the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, to save himself the disgrace and step down.
According to her, Ken Ofori-Atta has failed in the management of the local economy.
Nana Aba Anamoah attributed the frequent fall of the local currency, high inflation rate, and increase in petroleum prices, among other factors leading to the country’s economic crisis to the incompetence of the Finance Minister.
She asserted that the current harsh economic condition was due to government’s “imprudent borrowing taste and wasteful use of those flammable funds.”
Kweku Sintim Misa (KSM)
Known for not shelving his thoughts on governmental issues, Ghanaian playwright and actor, Kweku Sintim Misa (KSM), in a recent post advised Minister for Finance and Economic Planning, Ken Ofori Atta, to resign from his position.
He didn’t mince words when he shared a post on Twitter on October 22, 2022, stating that since President Akufo-Addo has resolved not to sack him, Ken Ofori-Atta, he should take the initiative and step down from the position.
Dr Theo Acheampong
Political risk analyst and economist, Dr Theo Acheampong reiterated calls for the Finance Minister to resign from his post.
Speaking on Newsfile on JoyNews, he said that the calls for the minister’s resignation are not because he is not liked but because he has made serious policy mistakes which have impacted the livelihoods of many.
Dr Acheampong, listing some of the minister’s faults, said that “one is the E-Levy, number two on the fact that philosophically he doesn’t support us going to the IMF.”
In the past week, some Ghanaian celebrities have called on President Akufo-Addo and the Minister of Finance to sit up and address the economic crisis fraught the country.
Below are some celebrities who have waded into the national conversation
Prince David Osei
Yvonne Nelson
Lydia Forson

“I fell sick while driving home a few days ago and needed water, I had no physical cash on me except momo. I was also embarrassed to ask those in traffic, I mean who would take momo for just 2 cedis water? I began to dehydrate more, I had passed at least 4 bottle water sellers on the kpone stretch, then I saw this young lady, I whispered that I wanted water and can only pay via momo. She declined the momo and gave me the water when she saw the state I was in. I drank the water, washed my face, and rested a bit. She didn’t want me to pay, so I insisted on taking her number to thank her later.
“I drove off thanking God and thinking how this girl saved me in ways she would never know. I called her the next morning to thank her and went ahead to send her momo to show just how grateful I am. she called back, shocked and happy,” she stated on Facebook.
