M4C has just 32 hours more to ‘live’ – NAPO’s camp reacts ahead of announcement as running mate

Constituency Organizer for Manhyia South, Alhaji Abubakar Alhasan, known as Aboba, has revealed that the unveiling of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) vice presidential candidate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), will mark a significant return of members from the Movement for Change back to the party.

According to him, this event, which will also introduce the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, is set to take place on Tuesday, July 10, 2024, at Jubilee Park in the Ashanti Region.

Alhaji Abubakar Alhasan emphasized on Abusua 96.5 FM’s Abusua Nkomo show with host Kojo Marfo that the Movement for Change, previously separated from the NPP, will face internal challenges immediately following the endorsement by the National Council of the NPP.

“In the next 32 hours, when the National Council endorses the candidate, the Movement for Change will implode.

The only persons who will remain with Allan Kyerematen will be his confidants, like Joseph Amoah and the KNUST political science lecturer, Dr. Akwasi Amakye Boateng.”

“The members of the Movement have already spoken extensively with us behind closed doors and told us they are excited that one of their own has been chosen to partner with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. They are willing to return to the party,” Aboba stated.

He also revealed that before the grand event at Jubilee Park, the Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, will be introduced to and seek the blessing of Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

NAPO, as he is fondly known, will also be taken on a procession through the main streets of Kumasi before arriving at Jubilee Park.

Abubakar Alhasan debunked assertions that President Akufo-Addo had reservations about the choice of NAPO, insisting, “Per my information, the president commended Dr. Bawumia for presenting the very name he was waiting for.”

“The name of the flagbearer’s choice was packaged and sealed in a special luxurious envelope deliberately imported from Dubai and presented to the president,” he boasted.

Sources within the National Council indicate that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will proceed with the process to declare the Manhyia parliamentary candidacy vacant immediately after Thursday’s council meeting, allowing interested individuals to contest.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who doubles as the NPP’s flagbearer, has formally nominated Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Energy Minister, as his preferred running mate for the upcoming December 2024 presidential election.

Dr. Bawumia made this announcement following a crucial meeting with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at Jubilee House, where he informed the President of his choice.

Prior to the meeting, several names were speculated as potential running mates, but Dr. Opoku Prempeh, the current Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, emerged as the favored candidate.

The stakes are high for both the ruling NPP and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). The NPP aims to secure a third consecutive term in office, while the NDC seeks to avoid a third consecutive electoral defeat.

Upon unveiling, Dr. Opoku Prempeh will compete against Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of opposition flagbearer John Mahama.

Both candidates have previous experience serving as education ministers, and their respective records in the education sector will be pivotal during the campaign.

My ministers would be appointed from both NPP, NDC parties – Alan Kyerematen

Leader of the Movement for Change and an independent presidential aspirant, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, has announced his intention to appoint half of his ministers from Parliament, drawing specifically from both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Emphasizing a commitment to constitutional mandates, Mr. Kyerematen stressed that his ministerial selections would prioritize individual merit over political allegiance.

These remarks were made during a radio interview in Accra on Wednesday July 3, 2024.

“I hear people asking, how are you going to get your ministers but that is very simple.

I am saying that I will pick ministers from the two parties that are represented in Parliament and if there are other parties that will make it to Parliament, I also have the flexibility to pick independent candidates,” Mr. Kyerematen stated.

“I am picking them not because they are NPP or NDC. I will pick them on the basis of their own individual merits.

It is just that they are in Parliament and I am required by the constitution to pick at least half of my ministers from Parliament.”

I can give life to the Cedi again – Alan

The depreciation of the cedi, according to independent presidential candidate Alan John Kwadwo Kyeremanten, is the result of systemic failure and a loss of confidence in the economy.

The former Minister of Trade and Industry warned that if the nation doesn’t boost exports and cut imports, the Cedi would keep losing ground to major international currencies.

Speaking on Monday while on a trip of the Eastern Region, Mr. Kyeremanten expressed optimism that laws pertaining to the forex bureau and an increase in exports will also help stabilise the Cedi.

“The strength of the Cedi is dependent on the demand and supply of foreign exchange. There is no other way unless you produce and export.

Because if you don’t produce and use that to export abroad, you won’t get dollars into the system… But have you heard a head of state talk about this before? So, it is a systemic failure for a long time.”

“So, between Alan, ex-president Mahama, and Dr. Bawumia, if it’s production and exports that would revive the Cedi, who amongst the three of us can do that? If we have made that mistake all these years and we now need someone who can do this, then it is Alan who can do that,” he stated.

Additionally, Mr. Kyeremanten advised Ghanaians to consider a national development strategy rather than unmet campaign pledges.

Significant constitutional reform would be given first priority by a government led by the Movement for Change.

“When you listen to the majority, they say that when the NDC and NPP are in government, it is a winner-takes-all situation. If one party assumes office for eight years and you are not part of the party, then you are not part of the government. So, the intelligence of many Ghanaians is disregarded in the governance of the country because it is winner-takes-all.

“If these two parties are in government, they work on projects, either good or bad, even if the other has already started the same… If there is no continuity, how do we move forward? Ghanaians are tired; they want a plan, not promises.”

“So, we want to move Ghana beyond the manifest promises; we want a national plan where Ghanaians are informed about where the country is headed. For the next 30 to 50 years, every party that assumes office will continue with whatever they meet,” he stated.

Alan there’s Karma, oh! Consider your actions – Kate Gyamfua warns

National Women’s Organiser of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kate Gyamfua, has warned former Minister of Trade and Industry and founder of Movement for Change (M4C), Alan Kyerematen, of the imminent consequences of his actions towards the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), his former party.

Alan, according to the Women’s Organiser, greatly benefited from the party for having to have served cumulatively fifteen years as a minister under the former President John Kuffour for eight years and under the Akufo-Addo led government for seven years, respectively.

Hence, his rebellion and secession from the party are unjustified. She warned during an appearance on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo on May 4, 2024.

“Kharma is real, Oh, let’s be careful.”. I see individuals who have seceded from the party, such as those who claim to have formed the Butterfly Movement. It’s troubling.

Alan, you served as a minister for 8 years under Kuffour’s administration and another seven under Akufo-Addo’s, totaling 15 years.

Then, because you lost in NPP primaries where the youth didn’t vote for you,. I mean, not like Bawumia contested unopposed. Now you revolt against your government. It’s a stark display of ingratitude. Karma is real”.

According to Madam Gyamfua, Alan’s actions can only be attributed to his sense of entitlement, which stemmed from the overpampering the NPP gave him, which got into his head, making him assume he was the rightful person to take the position of flagbearer in the party.

“We pampered Alan like a new-born baby. This sense of entitlement, particularly seen in Alan, who may have become swollen-headed thinking the seat was reserved for him, is disheartening.
Letting go of the goodwill shown by the party is a grave sin” she added.

2016 polls: We detonated dynamites to scare NDC supporters in Volta region away – Hopeson Adorye

Former aggrieved member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), now member of Alan’s Movement For Change, Hopeson Adorye, has confessed to a mechanism the ruling government adopted in 2016 to win the 2016 elections.

Speaking during an appearance on Accra FM’s ‘The Citizen Show’ with Nana Otu Darko on May 6, 2024, the former National Security boss revealed how he singlehandedly recruited five men from the Volta Region with whom he worked to scare eligible voters who were situated right on the borders of Ghana and Togo.

These five young men worked with him under an oath of secrecy, unbeknownst to the regional executives of Volta.

In an attempt to deter Voltarians, widely perceived as staunch supporters of the NDC, the former National Security boss directed these men to detonate dynamites along the border. The aim was to intimidate them into fleeing to Togoland, thus preventing them from voting in the elections.

“There are people who have their houses on the border with their windows directed towards Togo; such people can come and vote during elections.

I took it upon myself. that we should go and control elections on the border. I picked 5 men and made them take an oath not to tell the regional executives about our plans.

I only informed Akufo-Addo the fourth time. It didn’t end there; three days before the elections, we went before the buy dynamites and exploded them,” he said.

Fearing potential danger or threats on election day, these voters flee to Togo in search of refuge.

“On the day of the election, when they took buses to pick up the voters, they met only chickens, not a single human being, because they had all run into the main cities of Togo.

‘I am bitter, I don’t even have to lie about it – Hopeson Adorye on NPP exit

Movement for Change’s Director of Special Duties, Hopeson Adorye, has declared that it would be hypocritical of him to pretend he isn’t resentful of the way the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has handled him.

On Friday, May 3, 2024, Adorye stated he was still hurt by being kicked out of the party even though he almost went to jail for the NPP in an interview with Okay FM.

“If I tell you on this station that I am not bitter, then I am a hypocrite. I would be the biggest hypocrite in the country… Was it not in your studio that I sat and nearly got jailed because of the NPP? Am I a fool?

“I am not a hypocrite to deny that I am bitter… My death would have been a foolish one if I had died. You have to understand why sometimes we complain,” he told Kwame Nkrumah Tikese.

The NPP declared that Adorye had resigned from the organisation after endorsing Alan Kyerematen’s independent bid for president.

He claimed that the party had mistreated him even prior to his expulsion from the NPP.

He claimed that he was fired from his position as Deputy National Security Coordinator, which included overseeing the Kotoka International Airport’s VIP lounge, because of his relationship with Alan Kyerematen.
