  • Social media goes wild over Mahama’s parents.

    Former President John Mahama who is also the flag bearer for the National Democratic Congress party NDC this afternoon shared beautiful pictures of his parents as today marks World Parents Day. The former President took to his Facebook profile showing how his parents helped him to become the man he is today.

    According to him, without his parents, he wouldn’t have been here as a former MP, former Vice President and former President. He would have been nobody with nothing, but his parents made sure to make him a man by giving him education and love.

    John Mahama is seen by the world as one of the greatest speakers with various UN assignments and the former President has said he got all that talent from the teachings of his father.

    The mother taught him patience, honesty, kindness, tolerance and humility. According to him, he had all these manners from his loving parents.

    Social media users were quick to notice the former President’s parents thereby throwing in various comments.

    Some blessed the parents for giving Ghana a leader whiles others saw the chance to politicise their politics.

  • When they were young: Pictures of Akufo-Addo and John Mahama as kids

    It may seem very difficult to believe but the immediate past President, Mr. John Dramani Mahama and the current President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, were once children.

    It would amaze you to know that, these two important personalities have also sat on floors to play games with their neighborhood friends, suffered punishments from their parents and have been beaten to eat their meals.

    Seeing childhood pictures of Presidents make one realize, they had a humble beginning and were once young and  innocent.

    Their decision to serve as leaders of this country has subjected them to various forms of criticism from most people, because of the bold decisions they take sometimes on behalf of the entire population.

    His excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo grew to become the General Secretary of the Peoples Movement for Freedom and Justice in 1977. He also established a law firm and the Ghana Committee on Human and Peoples Right.

    He was voted as President on 7th December 2016 after beating his major contender, John Dramani Mahama of the NDC over one million votes. One major achievement associated with his Presidency is the introduction of the free Senior High School Policy.

    Born on November 29, 1958, Mr. John Dramani Mahama become the President of Ghana from July 24 2012 to January 7, 2018 after he lost the 2016 elections to President Nana Addo Dankuah Akufo- Addo. Mr. John Dramani Mahama inherited late President John Evans Atta Mills.

    He is an expert in communication and served as a Member of Parliament for the people of Bole Bamboi from 1977 to 2009. He has many infrastructural achievements in his name as President.

  • The common thing between John Mahama and Samira Bawumia

    Mr John Dramani Mahama, the immediate past president of the Republic of Ghana and also the current flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, has many excellent qualities that both members of his party and members of other parties will testify to any day.

    When it comes to communication skills, he is apt. He knows just how to get his audience in tune with him and can make some very lasting comments in the minds of his audience.

    She has brought some youthful exuberance, elegance, class and prestige to the office of the second ladyship of our dear country.

    With her foundation, Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Project (SEHP), she goes out of the political environment to help many people across the length and breath of this country.

    The one thing that is common between John Dramani Mahama and Samira Bawumia are that they are both polyglots. That is, they are multilingual. They speak many languages fluently.

    The common languages that both of them speak are English, Hausa, Twi, Ewe and Ga. There may be even many others. Other than these, both John Mahama and Samira Bawumia speak many other local languages.

    As politicians, being able to speak many languages is a big advantage as it helps them to be able to relate with the people better. The fact that they are able to speak these many languages make them acceptable to the local people who may not be able to speak English Language with them.

    By this, you are encouraged to learn to speak more languages as it will help you in diverse ways.

    The next time any of these two great politicians pass by you, be careful which language you speak. They may understand you perfectly well.

  • Gabby Otchere Darko mocks John Dramani Mahama with definition of ‘Psychosis’

    Even though the General Elections In Ghana is set to be held in December 2020, former President John Dramani Mahama is yet to pick his running mate.

    It’s quite surprising because under normal circumstances, he should have picked and announced his running mate by now.

    In a bid to take a swipe at the New Patriotic Party(NPP) , the Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has taken to social media to indicate that it has become a frustrating psychosis for the NPP as it is unable to correctly predict the winning ticket of its opponent; the NDC.

    In an immediate response to former President John Dramani Manama, Gabby Otchere Darko also took to social media to help him with the definition of psychosis.

    According to Gabby, psychosis is a mental disorder characterized by a disconnection from reality.

    He also explained that psychosis may occur as a result of a psychiatric illness such as schizophrenia adding that it may be caused by a health condition, medication or drug use.

    The leader of the National Democratic Congress John Dramani Mahama is alleged struggling to have a running mate who will deputise as his Vice President if voted to power come December 7.

    John Dramani Mahama who served as President of Ghana from 24 July 2012 to 7 January 2017 following the death of his former boss and President Atta Mills is struggling to have a Running Mate of his choice according to Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko a flamboyant NPP man and a Senior Partner of Africa Legal Associates according to his Facebook profile.

    Gabby last night threw in a delicate gossip which states how the former President John Mahama is struggling to have a Running Mate of his own choosing because the one he wanted has turned down the offer and not only did he turned it down indirectly but did it directly when the former president who is the flag bearer for the opposition party NDC paid the said individual a curtsey call. “It must be pretty frustrating when your choice of running mate turns you flat down… especially after you have approached him personally with your offer. Uneasy lies the head that wears a thorny crown.” Gabby’s post entails.

    Though it hasn’t been confirmed as truth but a man of Gabby’s calibre will never risk telling a fake gossip.

    John Mahama who served as Vice President of Ghana from January 2009 to July 2012, and took office as President on 24 July 2012 following the death of his predecessor, John Atta Mills is running for power for his second term as President. The Ghanaian constitution makes it possible for him run for a second term and if he succeeds will become the longest serving elected President of Ghana following their path of democracy starting 1992.

    Former President John Dramani Mahama has allegedly run to the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Headquarters to plead for mercy.

    According to Kwame Baffoe Abronye who claims was an eye witness, Former President John Dramani Mahama was short of words and resulted to kneeling with hands clasped together before the Police CID.

    ” What is the reason His Excellency President Mahama? ” The CID officer enquired why the former leader was begging frequently.

  • Coronavirus: Mahama worried 3 million Ghanaians could get infected with more deaths

    Former President John Dramani Mahama has supported projections that millions of people could be infected by Coronavirus in the country.

    Speaking via a digital conversation Thursday evening on Ghana’s COVID-19 situation, former President Mahama noted that in view of the current number of cases recorded in the nation, there is the possibility that about 3 million Ghanaians may contract the virus and a significant number of the infected persons may die.

    “The model government is working with, the projection is that up to 3 million Ghanaians may be infected by the virus and a significant number may require hospitalization or may even die from the virus,” he emphasized.

    The former President was worried this prediction might come to pass due to President Akufo-Addo’s lifting of restrictions on movement and his decisions in fighting against the pandemic.

    “In his last address to the country, President Nana Akufo-Addo lifted the partial lockdown imposed on Greater Accra, Greater Kumasi and their environs and Kasoa. At the time the country was recording increasingly higher infections, it was therefore not surprising that many Ghanaians including public health experts were puzzled about the considerations underlying the President’s decision. The number of infections are not only rising steeply but there is also clearly a horizontal community spread of the virus. The majority of the Regions in our country have reported cases and the bulk of the positive cases we’re seeing are of people who have no history of foreign travel.”

    Mr. Mahama wondered whether the President considered the “huge backlog of tests that have not yet been cleared and the many possible cases roaming in our communities that have not yet been tested due to a lack of mass testing” before arriving at his decision.

  • Akufo-Addo’s ‘herd immunity strategy’ against pandemic dangerous – Mahama

    Former President John Dramani Mahama has sought to question the logic in President Nana Akufo-Addo’s lifting of the partial lockdown in the Greater Accra, Greater Kumasi, Kasoa and its environs.

    President Akufo-Addo, in his 7th address to the nation on the COVID-19 pandemic, told Ghanaians that upon the indepth knowledge that his administration and Health Professionals have acquired about the behaviour and mutations of the virus as well as adequate data on the epidemic, it was prudent to lift the lockdown but however cautioned Ghanaians to adhere to all safety protocols to guard against the spread of the COVID-19.

    The President explained that “so far it has been established that the virus was imported into our midst from foreign shores, and is being spread through person to person contact. The majority of persons infected in Ghana have mild to no symptoms at all, whilst a very small number have required hospital treatment, out of which nine (9) persons, with underlying ailments, have died”.

    “…we are introducing rapid results testing to augment our surveillance and enhanced contact tracing efforts, so that we can quickly isolate and treat confirmed cases. From the sixty-eight thousand, five hundred and ninety-one (68,591) samples tested, we have been able to understand better the dynamism of the virus, map out its geographic footprint, and establish current and potential hotspots. We have also been able to isolate and educate asymptomatic carriers, and, thereby, help minimise the spread of the virus…lifting these restrictions does not mean we are letting our guard down. All other measures are still firmly in place”, the President expounded.

    But according to Ex-President John Mahama, President Akufo-Addo seems to have jumped the gun in adopting a strategy called ”herd immunity” to fight the pandemic.

    Herd immunity is the idea that if the coronavirus keeps spreading, more people will be infected and eventually somehow the infected persons will become immune leading to the end of the pandemic as the virus finds it difficult to find a susceptible host.

    This strategy was suggested by Chief Science Adviser to the UK government, Patrick Vallance who believed the UK needed to “build up some kind of herd immunity so more people are immune to this disease and we reduce the transmission”, and as a result the pandemic will fizzle out on its own.

    Addressing the nation via a digital conversation on Thursday, April 23, 2020, Ex-President Mahama opined that the President might be putting many lives at risk by his decision-making.

    ”One gets the sense that perhaps because of the current low mortality and the cases we have confirmed, the President might be seeking to rely on what is called herd immunity as a strategy to fight COVID-19 but I dare say this is dangerous. We must remember that there are reports of re-infection occuring in some cases elsewhere and also prolonged immunity to the virus has not yet been proven at this stage”, he stressed.

    He called for better interventions to be made by the Akufo-Addo administration in fighting the pandemic because ”the burden of the coronavirus disease could potentially be very heavy. COVID-19 has overwhelmed the health systems of most advanced countries and can do the same in Ghana. The toll on our healthcare workers could be devastating. You can buy ventilators and other medical items on the market but you cannot go to the market and buy skilled doctors and nurses, and other medical staff”.

  • Explain coronavirus data discrepancies Mahama to government

    John Mahama has asked the government to ensure that the process of acquiring data on the COVID-19 outbreak is transparent in order to build trust.

    In a Facebook presentation on Thursday, April 23, he said: “Issues have been raised about the discrepancies in data on COVID-19 put out by the government. Some of these discussions have been led by the renowned Ghanaian pathologist and former Director of the Ghana Health Service Prof Agyeman Badu Akosa.

    “I urge the government to explain the sources and nature of the data and the discrepancies in the data because we need to build trust, transparency, and confidence in the process in the fight against the virus.”

    He also called on Ghanaians to demand transparency and accountability in the disbursement of the COVID-19 trust fund created by the government to help finance activities relating to the fight against the pandemic.

    Mr Mahama said the funds were contributed by the tax payer, hence due accountability must be rendered by the government.

    In a Facebook live presentation on Thursday April 23, Mr Mahama also urged the government to disburse the funds immediately to the health institutions to enable them discharge their duties.

    He said : “If you have nothing urgent to do outside please continue to stay at home avoid shaking hands or joining large gatherings.

    “Let us regularly wash our hands with soap under running water, resort to the use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers when possible.”

    He added: “Let us all join hands in demanding accountability and transparency from the government in the management of the COVID-19 funds, after all these are public funds contributed by tax payers.

    “I am passionately appealing to the government to ensure a timely release of these funds to the institutions, health and non-heath, so that they can discharge their duties appropriately and according to plan.”

  • Internet cost: Government, telcos must work to cushion Ghanaians Mahama

    The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama has urged the government and telecommunication companies to urgently work towards easing the internet challenges of consumers amid the coronavirus pandemic.

    The pandemic has led to a partial lockdown of Accra, Kasoa, Kumasi and Tema as well as the closure of schools and bans on public gatherings.

    A lot of schools have tried to move classes online whilst a number of professionals have taken to working from home to ensure social distancing.

    Speaking on the matter after announcing the donation of food items to some 20,000 households, Mr. Mahama argued that some relief on internet expenditure was in order.

    “This has drastically increased their expenditure on internet usage to the extent to the extent that some can no longer cope. Indeed there are reports of several students being unable to complete online lectures because their data run out. Several people are also working from home.”

    As a solution, Mr. Mahama urged government to assure the telcos of a free six months extension of licenses to motivate them to reduce the cost of internet.

    “This value can be applied to cushion consumers during this three-month period,” he noted

    He suggested that telcos can also be compensated with funds from the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication (GIFEC), “which already has the mandate to ensure universal access to telecommunication.”

    “Furthermore, the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) should leverage its robust broadband infrastructure…to meet the increased demand for wireless and fixed broadband in these COVID-19 times.”

    Mr. Mahama further reiterated calls for the removal of the 50 percent increase in the Communications Service Tax which he said: “will provide further relief for the many who are having to work or stay at home at this time.”

    So far, the government has provided extra spectrum to Vodafone and MTN Ghana so as to improve data quality.

    Some citizens have made calls for a reduction in data costs.  But commenting on the matter in March, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN argued that reducing the cost of data to boost communication amidst the pandemic, could increase traffic that will affect internet speed.

  • Akufo-Addos promise of constant flow of water a complete failure Mahama

    Former President John Dramani Mahama says although the government has announced that it will absorb water bills for three months, taps, on the contrary, remain shut as there is no water flowing through them as expected.

    President Akufo-Addo in his fifth update on measures put in place to fight COVID-19 said: “Ghana Water Company Limited and the Electricity Company Limited of Ghana has been directed to provide a constant supply of water and power during this period. In addition, there will be no disconnection of power.”

    “Furthermore the government will absorb water bills of Ghanaians for the next three months i.e. April, May, June.”

    But speaking at a short event to donate some food items for some 20,000 households across the country, the former President mentioned that although a promise of constant flow of water has been made, the promise seems not to have been fulfilled.

    He noted that the taps are not flowing and therefore will an impediment to the frequent hand-washing in order to get rid of the virus.

    “Even though water tariffs have been absorbed for the next three months, there have been loud complaints of interruptions in the supply of treated water through pipes and/or water tankers,” he said

    The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) used the opportunity to urge the government to redouble its efforts in this sector in order to give meaning to the campaign for regular handwashing with soap under running water.”

  • May God have mercy on us to overcome coronavirus – Mahama

    Former President John Dramani Mahama has prayed for God’s mercy on Ghana so the country overcomes the coronavirus epidemic.

    In his Easter message to Ghanaians, the leader and flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Mahama stated: “it is my prayer that this season will offer our dear nation God’s unfailing Mercy and Grace to overcome the surge of our present pain, COVID-19“.

    “The crucifixion and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ is the reason for our hope of Eternal Glory”, he said in a Facebook post.

    Mahama indicated that in his second term as president, he “will double the bed capacity of the 37 military hospital and build an Infectious Diseases Centre there to cater for the Southern sector in order to help manage infections like Ebola and COVID-19”.

    John Mahama who is leading the National Democratic Congress (NDC), also reiterated his “call for government to provide adequate PPEs to health workers, ensure testing of as many people as possible for the COVID-19 virus as we stay home during the extended lockdown period, observing social distancing protocols and washing our hands with soap under running water, regularly”.

    Ghana currently has only two research centres for testing for COVID-19.

  • COVID-19: Mahama donates PPEs to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital

    The Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, H. E. John Dramani Mahama has donated 50 sets of PPEs and 50 pairs of Gum Boots to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) to support Health Workers at the Facility in our national efforts to defeat COVID-19.

    The presentation was done on behalf of the Flagbearer by a delegation led by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Mr. Augustus Andrews, Dr. Joseph Akpalo, Professor Ohene Adjei, both former CEOs of KATH, Mr. Kwame Zu, the Ashanti Regional Secretary and other Regional Executives of the NDC.

    The delegation thanked the Health Workers for their bravery, sacrifices and dedication to the Nation.

    The Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Dr. Oheneba Owusu Danso, received the items on behalf of the Hospital and expressed his appreciation to the Flagbearer for his kind gesture.

  • Mahama projects: Ghanaians have learnt a useful lesson – Felix Kwakye Ofosu

    Former Deputy Minister for Communication under the Mahama administration, Felix Kwakye Ofosu says the attempt by a section of the public to point out some projects of the previous administration being used for the Covid-19 fight is a useful lesson.

    Some members of the NDC and a section of the public have raised concerns about the use of some projects executed under the Mahama administration which was described as non-existence by the NPP during the 2016 campaign season.

    The President has announced that the Aayololo buses procured by the former government will be used to provide free transport services to health workers. Other projects playing a significant role in the fight is the University of Ghana Medical Centre, the Accra Regional Hospital and the Bank of Ghana Hospital.

    Members of the governing NPP believe the attempt to point these things out are steps by the opposition to engage in partisan politics during this critical period.

    But in a television interview on April 9, Felix Kwakye Ofosu said it is rather a useful lesson because most of these projects were criminalised by the NPP in opposition and it is a legitimate exercise.

    He explained that the said criminalisation caused the defeat of Mahama, therefore, it is necessary to let people assess its usage for the country to appreciate useful investments in the health sector for unforeseen occurrences.

    Felix Kwakye Ofosu said the information they have is that the University of Ghana Medical Centre is having the largest ICU in the country for the Covid-19 fight for which the former administration needs to be acknowledged for the huge investment.

    He added that the Accra Regional Hospital is also playing a huge role in fighting the pandemic.

    Commenting on the decision of the government to absorb the water bill of all Ghanaians, Felix Kwakye Ofosu commended the government and said despite the debate that is the least of utilities being paid for, it is necessary at this time due to the role of water in the fight.

    He further criticised the government for shutting down the Teshie Water Desalination Plant for two years over concerns of fraudulent transactions but later opened it for use during this period which also questions government’s steps in addressing major concerns in the country because the over 5,000 people who cloud have benefited over the past two years were denied.

  • Former President Mahama recommends key measures to fight coronavirus

    Former President John Dramani Mahama has recommended some key measures he believes, could help scale up the fight against the spread of the Coronavirus disease in Ghana.

    Mr. Mahama made the recommendations via his Facebook page.

    The former president during the Facebook stream announced that he had donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) worth more than GH300,000 to some selected health facilities in the country.

    He indicated that the Tamale Teaching Hospital, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Regional and District hospitals nationwide, were all to benefit from the donation.

    Mr. Mahama proposed to government, the development of a National Infectious Diseases Response plan that clearly sets out the specific steps that must be taken to prevent the entry of such diseases, and ”quickly arrest them even if they do enter the shores at the very early stage, to reduce its impact on the population.

    He also proposed the establishment of another medical research centre with capacity like the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research in the northern part of Ghana, while calling for an expansion of the 37 Military Hospital, by doubling the current bed size, and also build an Infectious Disease Centre to cater for the southern sector to help with the situation.

    He asked government to expand the testing centres to include the Navorongo and Kimtampo Research Centres and ensure that Noguchi or the KCCR in Kumasi supports the testing of more people in good time.

  • Reduce cost of utility, fuel and data – Mahama to government

    Former President John Dramani Mahama, has called on government to reduce utility tariffs as a measure to cushion the Ghanaian public in the period of the outbreak of the coronavirus, MyNewsGh.com reports.

    The former President believes this move would significantly ease the burden on Ghanaians who are now challenged in their line of earnings with many working from home.

    Former President Mahama in a post on his Facebook wall on Friday April 3, 2020 said, “The well-intentioned lockdown has obviously led to some unintended consequences and I believe it is time to utilize the Stabilization Fund to build some additional buffers for the economy. The use of the fund should be directed at cushioning the general population through this period of economic slowdown. These measures may include short term temporary tariff relief in respect of utilities.”

    While acknowledging the recent drop in the prices of fuel, he further admonished government to add relief in the form of a temporary waiver of some petroleum taxes to further reduce fuel prices saying it “will be helpful to the motoring public, especially commercial drivers.”

    In making a case for Ghanaians in relation to the cost of data, the NDC flagbearer called on government through the National Communications Authority to grant a “temporary relief from the Communication Service Tax (CST) in order to grant some relief to data users.   • Help government deal with coronavirus, stay at home – Mahama

    Former President John Dramani Mahama has reminded Ghanaians to play their role in ensuring the efforts by the government in dealing with the deadly coronavirus are successful.

    According to him, the best remedy in dealing with the outbreak is to stop its spread.

    This he indicated can be achieved by staying at home.

    In a Facebook post, the former president wrote: “Happy Sunday, my friends.
    I want to remind us, once again, that we all have a role to play, not just government, in managing the Coronavirus pandemic. In these times, the best remedy to stopping the spread of #COVID19 and prevent yourself from infection, is to stay home. Let us heed the call to stay home, and remember to always wash your hands with soap, and under running water.”

    As of 14:00 hours on the 28th March 2020, a total of 2,519 persons have been tested for COVID-19 in Ghana. Among the tested, 1,276 (50.7%) were persons under mandatory quarantine with 1,243 (49.3%) from routine surveillance activities. Among all 2,519 persons tested, one hundred and forty-one (141) tested positive representing 5.6%.

    Among persons under mandatory quarantine, 79 representing 6.2% tested positive. Among samples tested from routine surveillance, sixty-two (62) representing 5.0% tested positive.

    Only three regions have so far reported cases- the Greater Accra, Ashanti and Upper West Regions from routine disease surveillance. One case has been confirmed in the Upper West Region. The Ashanti Region has recorded 7 of the 8 cases recorded outside the Greater Accra Region. All other 54 cases from routine surveillance were recorded in the Greater Accra Region.

    A total of 731 contacts of confirmed cases are currently being followed up by the contact tracing team. Among contacts, 53 were found to have symptoms and 48 have been tested with one person testing positive.

    Two hundred and thirty-one contacts have completed the mandatory 14-day follow-up.

    The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party has vowed to report the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama to the Prime Minister of UK, Boris Johnson.

    Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako stated that former President Mahama has subjected Ghana to public ridicule by “stealing the idea” of the UK Prime Minister and presenting it as his own on the national colours of Ghana.

    He noted that “if former President Mahama had produced an original message, there will be no way he would have reproduced a door which represents Number 10 Downing Street in UK on the Ghana version he posted on his timeline”.

    The NPP Chairman also known as Chairman Wontumi explained that he has saved the post of former President Mahama and would forward it to his UK counterparts ”so that the necessary actions would be taken to prevent the former President from stealing the ideas of other world leaders”.

    “John Mahama is free to send out message but he must learn from President Akufo-Addo who as always been original and given credit if he borrows words from other authors”, he advised.

  • 2020 election: Mahama will suffer to lose Moses Abor

    The Greater Accra Regional Youth Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Moses Abor, has bashed the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, stating that he will suffer great humiliation in the 2020 Presidential election.

    According to him, former President Mahama “is going to suffer twice what he lost in the 2016 general election.”

    “I am telling you with the fact that 2020 election is going to be too difficult for Mahama to loss…we will make sure he suffer much before losing… we will make sure NDC is dead and buried once and for all because we are not going to leave any space for NDC and I promise to do everything humanly possible to secure more seats for NPP and Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo…,” he stressed.

    The Office of the Chief of Staff supported the Greater Accra youth wing with 30 motorbikes. And this was done through Protozoa.

    On behalf of the Chief of Staff, he presented the motorbikes to the regional youth wing to help facilitate their activities during the electoral commission’s new voter registration exercise and further urged them to rally behind President Nana Akufo-Addo for a second term in office.

    He also appealed to them to get involved in the upcoming voter register exercise and therefore advised them to protect themselves against Coronavirus in other to stay healthy to prevent “Mahama from cancelling 375 ambulances, free SHS, 1V1D …”

  • Let’s rise above partisanship in coronavirus fight – Mahama

    The flagbearer for the NDC and a former President, John Mahama has called on Ghanaians to rise above partisanship and politics in the fight against Covid-19. According to John Mahama, the pandemic is an enemy to all and everyone must work to prevent the spread of it.

    “This virus is an enemy to all Ghanaians and the call to fight against it rises above partisanship and politic,” he said in the Facebook address to Ghanaians.

    Also on steps being taken to prevent the spread of Covid-19, John Mahama said PPEs must be provided for the health workers to prevent them from being infected with the virus.

    He also salutes the frontline workers for their dedication and commitment to make sure those infected are safe and also all Ghanaians get the needed medical attention.

    John Mahama also asked the government to provide incentives for health professionals to boost their morale in the execution of their jobs.

    As per a precautionary way to deal with the virus, former President Mahama advised for isolation centres to be established at all regions to prevent people from being sent from other regions to Accra for a check-up.

    He stated that the regional isolations centres have become necessary because some of the cases have been recorded outside Accra like the case of the Obuasi Mines worker.

    GHS takes delivery of more PPEs for health professionals

    The Ghana Health Service, GHS has also taken delivery of the second consignment of Personal Protective Equipment, PPE.

    The PPEs will help protect health professionals who are in contact with infected Covid-19 victims.

    Director-General for the Ghana Health Service Dr Patrick Aboagye said they have taken delivery of the second consignment of PPEs.

    He said the third consignment is also expected in the country soon and will be distributed.

    Dr Patrick Aboagye also advised the health professional to use the PPEs judiciously.

    “We’ve brought in the second consignment of PPEs, we are expecting the third consignment and as it comes it will be distributed. As we continue to expand our training and rapid response teams, there are systems and resources available plan to ensure that as and when we need PPEs we will use them. We will ask that people not to also waste PPEs, that is extremely important because it globally not readily available..”

    A leader of the Kuntunkure Clan of Damongo Alhaji Abass Dangba has said that former President John Dramani Mahama did not flout any Gonja Custom at Tuluwe when he visited the area to mourn with the people on the passing of the late Tuluwewura Mahama Yahaya Bonyanso at Tuluwe in the Central Gonja District of the Savannah Region last Thursday 12th March, 2020.

    According to Alhaji Abass Dangba, smocks of sub-chiefs and Royals are turned inside out when a Paramount Chief dies but after the three day funeral in accordance to Gonja tradition, it is no longer necessary for one to turn the smock inside out.

    Alhaji Abass said former President John Dramani Mahama went to Tuluwe after the three days funeral of the late Paramount Chief of the area and so cannot be faulted for not turning his smock inside out.

    Alhaji Abass said Traditionally the Kuntunkure clans are the custodian and source of Gonja history and traditions, therefore, entreated the young ones to strive to learn more on Gonja customs and traditions before commenting on an issue they have little knowledge on.

    Bole based Nkilgi contacted Alhaji Abass Dangba for his input on a report that former President John Dramani Mahama was improperly dressed at Tuluwe and has therefore flouted the culture, language and tradition of the Gonja Kingdom.

    The NPP in the Yapei-Kusawgu Constituency has in a statement said; “the culture, language and tradition of the Gonja Kingdom were flouted” when the former President visited Tuluwe.

    A statement signed by the NPP Director of Communications for the Yapei-Kusawgu constituency Aliyu Zakaria Babana said: “former President John Dramani Mahama was improperly dressed as expected of him as a royal of the Kingdom mourning a Paramount Chief (his father) by virtue of the culture and Traditions of his own kinsmen”.

    In another social media post, the NPP Communication Officer for the Yapei-Kusawgu Constituency said former President Mahama who is royal could not even speak Gonja properly and only spoke with help from those by his side.

    But Alhaji Abass Dangba reacting to this said being a Gonja is not one’s ability to speak Gonja fluently but added in the case of former President John Dramani Mahama, he speaks good Gonja.

    He said the father of former President John Dramani Mahama (EA Mahama) moved with his children to Accra and did not stay with them for long periods because he was a busy removed serving as a Minister in Kwame Nkrumah’s government. Alhaji Dangba explained that some of the children of E.A. Mahama attended boarding schools in Accra where they picked other languages and so should be commended for their ability to speak the Gonja language after growing up.

    Alhaji Abass Dangba said the most important thing is that former President John Dramani Mahama is Royal of Bole and can ascend the Bole skin of Gonja.

    The Second Lady of the Republic, Hajia Samira Bawumia, has said that flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama hasn’t changed and that he is still as incompetent as he was when he was president.

  • Murder of assemblyman: Speed up investigations Mahama pleads

    Former President John Dramani Mahama has urged the police to step up efforts to follow their leads and arrest the killers of Mawutor Adzahli, the late assembly member of the Sogakope district assembly.

    Mr Mahama made the call when he led a delegation of senior officials of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to visit the parents and family of the late Adzahli.

    Mr Adzhli was shot dead in his home by unknown assailants on 1 March 2020.

    Mr Mahama described the late assembly member Mawuto as a “young enterprising” man who “for many of the youth in Toklokpo and Sogakope, he was one of the dynamic and influential young business persons emanating from the area.”

    Mr Mahama noted that the circumstances surrounding the failure of the security agencies to respond to numerous calls from the deceased and his neighbours over the period the killers were trying to break down his door, has angered both the youth and the elderly in the community.

    The NDC flagbearer has, therefore, called on the police to speed up investigation into murder.

  • Mahama visits family of murdered Sogakope assemblyman

    Former President John Dramani Mahama, flag-bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has on Saturday, March 7, 2020, paid a visit to the family of the assemblyman, Mawutor Adzahli who was gruesomely murdered in his house at Sogakope.

    Ofosu Ampofo, national chairman of NDC, Member of Parliament for South Tongu constituency, Hon. Wisdom Mensah Woyome and few party executives were all in attendance to mourn with the Adzahli family as well as express their condolences.

    Mahama’s visit to Sogakope came just a day after former president Jerry John Rawlings was in the town to observe the 63rd Independence anniversary as a way of mourning with the chiefs and people of the town on the loss of their beloved son.

    A cash amount of GHS 2,000 has also been donated to the family by John Mahama.

    According to a source close to the bereaved family, the money is to be used to buy items such as potable water to receive visitors, mourners and sympathizers who will be visiting the family.

    Marcus Mawutor Adzahli was shot dead in his room on Sunday, March 1, 2020, at around 1:00 midnight by unknown assailants after they managed to break down his well-fortified door with cement blocks.

    The assailants said to be about eight (8), reportedly stormed the home of Adzahli wielding guns amidst sporadic shooting.

    The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Sogakope District Hospital Morgue.

    Adzahli aka Mac-Greenline was elected assemblyman in the December 17, 2019, local assembly elections.

    He is known in Sogakope for his mobile money business, with many outlets across the Sogakope Township.

    According to him, organizers of the event reserved a special invitation for the former President and accorded him the highest respect he deserves as a former head of state.

    He added that “when our great King Otumfuo Osei Tutu II revealed that it took his intervention after the 2016 elections for John Mahama to handover power to President Akufo-Addo, he (John Mahama) called him a liar. Today, the region has invited you to join us celebrate Ghana’s Independence and you disrespect us by not showing up”.

    Chairman Wontumi noted that former President Mahama should have at least “shown respect to Ashantis by informing the Protocol team why he couldn’t show up just as former President Rawlings officially did”.

  • State Protocol was informed Mahama would be unavailable for 6th March Parade – Brogya Gyamfi

    A former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer and a communicator, Brogya Gyamfi says State Protocol was made aware that former President John Mahama would not attend the 63rd independence parade. The parade which was held at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi saw John Mahama missing.

    This raised a few eyebrows as some speculated that Mahama did not turn up due to political reasons.

    A Chair with the inscription John Mahama, which was close to former President John Agyekum Kufuor was empty.

    Some even said Mahama chose his wife’s birthday which also fell on March 6 over the state event but Brogya Gyamfi has explained why the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) missed the event.

    “The former President John Dramani Mahama indicated to the State Protocol of the independence day celebration of his unavailability to attend the event.”

    Also missing on the day was former President and Founder of the NDC Jerry John Rawlings, Mr Gymafi indicated that he attended a program at Sogakope hence his absence too.

    Present at the Independence parade was His Royal Majesty, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.

    Prime Minister of Trinidad & Tobago Dr. Keith Christopher Rowley was the special guest of honor.

    The event saw thousands of Ghanaians troop to the Baba Yara Stadium to catch a glimpse of it.

    That was the first time the Independence parade was held at Kumasi and the second time it was held outside Accra.

    Last year it was held at Tamale and President Akufo-Addo has indicated that the event would be rotated across all the regions.

    Former President John Mahama has given his first public statement on the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), noting that even though factors that cause diseases such as COVID-19 are daunting, they are not insurmountable if the global community act decisively as a unit.

    “The Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is posing a serious threat to global security, economy, trade, and transport. While the WHO has not yet declared it a pandemic, they urge countries to take aggressive containment measures.

    In the late 20th and early 21st century, we appear to be experiencing an emergence of many new infectious diseases- Zika, Ebola, MERS, SARS among others. This is scary. But it is consistent with the changing nature of infectious diseases as a result of increasing population, poverty, migration, conflicts, economic and technological development, antimicrobial resistance, climate change, inadequate health infrastructure and public health policies.

    These multiple contributory factors are daunting but not insurmountable if the global community, which has become intricately linked due to globalisation will act decisively together,” he stated.

    The former President regretted that at the onset of the outbreak of the disease in the Wuhan Province of China, the response from the global community was lukewarm.

    “Unfortunately, the international response had been lukewarm from the time of the outbreak from its original source in Wuhan, China,” he said.

    He then added that unlike the decisive action that was taken against the Ebola virus in 2014 in West Africa, such action is yet to be seen with regard to COVID-19.

    “Unfortunately, we are yet to see the kind of leadership, definite and concerted actions, which were mounted against the Ebola virus disease infection in West Africa a few years ago,” he recalled.

    He again called for aggressive education and awareness campaigns so as to deal with COVID-19 in especially Africa.

    “Africa is vulnerable and has not been spared. The first case reported in West Africa has been in Nigeria. This must be a period for the implementation of aggressive preventive measures while we stamp out specific incidences.

    We must mount a strong educational and awareness campaign on the nature and mode of transmission of COVID-19 as was done in the period of the Ebola disease outbreak. Discouraging handshaking, frequent handwashing, use of alcohol-based hand sanitisers at public gatherings such as churches, mosques, funerals etc. should be promoted as soon as possible. Measures such as establishment of quarantine centres, provision of hazmat suits, temperature monitoring and traveller tracking are urgently required,” he advised.

  • Video recording on Major Mahama to be shown March 17

    An Accra High Court has admitted a video recording of how Major Maxwell Adam Mahama was allegedly murdered by the 14 persons now on trial and directed that it should be shown in open court on March 17.

    The court on February 13, this year, dismissed an objection by the defence, when prosecution sought to tender the flash drive containing the video as evidence.

    Justice Mariama Owusu, a Justice of the Supreme Court sitting as an additional High Court Judge, delivering a ruling on the issue on Thursday, said it was better for the video to be admitted as evidence first before it could be shown in open court.

    Earlier, Chief Inspector Samuel Agyakwa, the Investigator in the case, told the court that the video contains details of how the late Major Mahama was allegedly murdered, but the defence objected to the tendering of the video evidence.

    The witness, who was being led by Mrs Evelyn Keelson, Chief State Attorney, to give his evidence in chief, said it came out that William Baah, John Boasie, Bismarck Abanga, Kwadwo Anima, and Donkor Bismarck were not in the video.

    Chief Insp Agyakwa said, however, the rest were seen in the video hitting the late Mahama with sticks, cement blocks and metal bars and other implements, and investigations revealed that Charles Kwaning and Kwesi Asante were the ones, who shot the late Major Mahama,” he added.

    Chief Insp Agyakwa said investigations also revealed that William Baah, John Boasie, Bismarck Abanga, Kwadwo Anima and Donkor Bismarck used their fists to attack the deceased.

    Fourteen persons are standing trial at an Accra High Court over the killing of Major Mahama, an officer of the 5th Infantry Battalion, at Burma Camp.

    The late Major was on duty at Denkyira­Obuasi in the Central Region on May 29, 2017 where some residents allegedly mistook him for an armed robber and lynched him.

    The mob had ignored his persistent plea that he was an officer of the Ghana Armed Forces.

    The accused are William Baah, the Assembly member of Denkyira Obuasi, Bernard Asamoah alias Daddy, Kofi Nyame a.k.a Abortion, Akwasi Boah, Kwame Tuffour, Joseph Appiah Kubi, Michael Anim and Bismarck Donkor.

    The rest are John Bosie, Akwasi Baah, Charles Kwaning, Emmanuel Badu, Bismarck Abanga and Kwadwo Anima.

    Henry Nana Boakye, National Youth Organiser of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is wondering why the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama has still not picked a running mate.

    The NDC is yet to choose a running mate. General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah says the party will select a vice presidential candidate in due time.

    Meanwhile, Social commentator, Bernard Allotey Jacobs has advised the NDC to select someone who can match up to Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

    Speaking on Friday’s edition of Peace FM morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, after President Akufo-Addo filed nomination, Nana B said: “Akufo-Addo is going unopposed and he is going with the Vice President of the Republic but the former President who is an astute politician after one year four months you have still not selected your running mate…”

    According to him, delay for the former President in selecting a running mate shows ‘indecisiveness’.

    Some concerned youth in the Western Region, have expressed great displeasure at flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress, John Dramai Mahama, over his silence on the Airbus scandal and his alleged involvement .

    The concerned group members demonstrated on the streets of Juaboso holding placards with questions they wish to ask Mahama if given the opportunity to.

    Some of the placards read; Are you Government Official 1? JM, why the long silence on the Airbus scandal? JM and corruption are identical twins, Who is Intermediary 5, among other messages.

    The group, upon learning about Mr John Mahama touring the region, used the opportunity to demand answers from the former President, whose name appears to be the focal point in the Airbus saga.

  • Next NDC government to introduce good policies for cocoa sector

    Former President and leader of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr John Dramani Mahama has stated that the next NDC government will introduce policies that will improve on the Cocoa production.

    He described Cocoa as the backbone of the Ghanaian economy and stressed that everything would be done to sustain the industry.

    Mr John Dramani Mahama who was speaking at Sefwi-Debeiso on day two of his Western North tour accused the government of selling fertilizers that were supposed to be freely supplied to the farmers.

    He also criticised the government for not increasing the price of Cocoa for two years and assured that the NDC government would increase the price of Cocoa every year when voted into power.

    Touching on the Free Senior High school programme, he indicated that it was a good policy that had come to stay and that the next NDC government would construct more School blocks to abolish the double-track system.

    The former President expressed concern about the bad roads in the Western North Region and promised to continue all the Cocoa roads abandoned by the NPP government.

    Mr Johnson Kwadwo Asiedu Nketiah, General Secretary of the NDC asked party members to work hard in order to ensure the party wins the next general election.

    Nana Obenfo Richard Afrani, Debeiso Nifahene, appealed to the former President to provide them with a hospital and upgrade facilities at the Bia Teacher Training College if he wins the upcoming general election.

  • Asempaneye Chief prays for NDC win

    The Omanhene of Awaso Asempaneye, Nana Oko Twansuo III, has commended former President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the massive development projects across the country.

    He specifically mentioned the provision of a CHPS Compound for his community and the start of work on the Awaso town roads in the town.

    Nana Twansuo said his people are working and praying for a John Mahama victory in 2020 because the people of Asempaneye see him as a redeemer, urging all Ghanaians to give their votes to John Mahama.

    The Omanhene was speaking during a courtesy call by the NDC Flagbearer as part of his #SpeakOut tour of the Western North Region. The #SpeakOut is an opportunity for the NDC leader to meet, interact and listen directly to the people of Ghana.

    According to Nana Twansuo, the people of Awaso Asempaneye are looking forward to the NDC expanding the CHPS compound into a hospital and complete the Awaso town roads. The contract for the road works was stopped by the NPP government on assumption of office in 2017.

    “Even if our thumbs are chopped off on December 07, my people and I will use our toes to vote for you to come and continue with your good works.

    President Mahama thanked the chief and his people for the acknowledgement of the contributions of the NDC, adding that he is aware of the challenges facing cocoa farmers in the region and will take measures to tackle them.

    The NDC Flagbearer said the decision to sell fertiliser to cocoa farmers among others is insensitive and affecting the output of cocoa production.

    The #SpeakOut tour will take place in all 16 regions of the country. Mr. Mahama said major development projects especially roads in the Western North Region were executed by the NDC from the era of President Rawlings through President Mills. He added that at the time of exiting office in 2016, many contracts were awarded for upgrading of roads, stressing that, those contracts were either abrogated or stopped by the NPP government.

    He promised to revisit all those projects and new ones when voted back to power.

    A former Member of Parliament for Madina, Amadu Sorogo, has said the record of former President John Dramani Mahama will win him and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections.

    According to him, Mr Mahama performed well in office, therefore, the NDC will have stories to tell the electorate.

    Mr Sorogo noted that the government has not embarked on a single infrastructural development project to support the people of Ghana since coming into office in 2017.

    “John Mahama promised to build schools and he delivered; as we speak, the current government has not started a single infrastructural project,” he said.

  • NPP was aware of Mahamas mess before assuming power Bawumia

    Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has revealed that the New Patriotic Party, prior to assuming power on January 7, 2017, was largely aware of the mess created by the previous administration led by John Dramani Mahama.

    “Let’s start at the beginning. The NPP under the leadership of Nana Akufo-Addo was largely aware of the nature of the problems that existed in the economy before we came into office. We had analysed these problems, talked about them and put forward solutions which were largely captured in our 2016 Election Manifesto,” he said at the 7th Town Hall meeting held at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology(KNUST).

    Listing the problems the NPP inherited, he said, “Some of the problems that existed in the economy, many of which were worsened following the eight years of NDC government, included:

    • Declining Economic growth;
    • High Inflation rate
    • High-Interest rates
    • High exchange rate depreciation
    • High fiscal deficit
    • Rapid accumulation of debt. 12-fold increase in debt
    • Weak and collapsing financial system
    • High Unemployment
    • The NHIS was back to cash and carry.
    • Emergency healthcare system was collapsing with only 55 semi-functional ambulances in the country
    • Four years of dumsor with its costs
    • Average annual increase in electricity prices between 2010 and 2015 was 45%
    • Increases in taxes on many items
    • Freeze on public sector recruitment
    • Cuts in research allowances for lecturers
    • Abolition of teachers training allowances
    • Abolition of nurses training allowances
    • Teachers paid 3 months arrears after working for 2-3 years.
    • High Import Duties
    • Corrupt practices associated with the acquisition of passports and drivers licenses.
    • Problems renewing NHIS membership
    • Cumbersome process to clear goods at the ports.
    • Many parents could not afford school fees for their children for SHS
    • No national ID card
    • No working nationwide address system
    • Corrupt practices associated with manual court processes

  • Airbus saga: You are responsible Akpaloo challenges Mahama

    The leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) Mr. Percival Kofi Akpaloo has challenged former President John Dramani over his alleged involvement in the Airbus bribery saga.

    Speaking at a press conference in Accra, Mr. Akpaloo said the €35 million involved in the purchase of the aircraft as at that time, was equivalent to $40 million and asked, “why should we spend $40 million to buy an aircraft that was selling at $25 million?”

    “From 2009 to 2016, the NDC was in charge of this country. Whatever happened between that time, they are responsible. We want the former President to tell everybody who the Government Official 1 is”, Mr. Kofi Akpaloo, said.

    “Now when you mention Ghana anywhere around the world, people associate it with bribery and corruption. Former President Mahama needs to help us fight it by addressing this issue,” he added.

    Airbus SE, the European aircraft manufacturer, is alleged to have paid bribes in Ghana when it sold the three military aircraft to the country.

    The company admitted hiring the relation of a top elected Ghanaian official whose company was based in Spain as its consultant in the sale of the aircraft

    Also, Airbus confessed paying the said consultant through a third party when its Compliance Unit raised red flags about the close relationship between the consultant and the top elected official who was a key decision-maker in the purchase of the military aircraft.

  • I will never forgive Mahama Chairman Wontumi

    Bernard Antwi Boasiako, Chairman of the Ashanti Regional NPP, says he will never forgive former president John Mahama for ordering the seizure and burning of his mining equipment in 2013.

    Antwi Boasiako who is popularly referred to as Chairman Wontumi, speaking on Good Evening Ghana show on Metro TV insisted that no amount of apology or compensation would make him forget the pain he felt on that fateful day.

    Recounting how the former regime led by then National Security Coordinator, Lt. Col. Gbevlo Lartey (Rtd.) unleashed terror on him and thousands of his workers at a mining concession at Samanboi in the Western Region, he said, “I was on my way to my company, Hansol Mining, one day when I received a phone call from an unknown number.

    “The caller told me President Mahama wanted to have a meeting with me on that same day, but I declined as I was on my way to attend to some pressing matters at the site.

    “But the same number called for the second time and I was told to meet the president at Tamale in the Northern Region, so I agreed to be in that meeting. I remember vividly that the meeting was held on a Sunday”.

    Wontumi disclosed that during the deliberations with the former president and his entourage, they impressed upon him to admit that his company was illegally prospecting for gold a suggestion he fiercely resisted.

    “They wanted to force me, so I admit that my company had no license to engage in the large-scale mining we were engaged in, but I showed them all the necessary documentations, and that there was no way I was going to admit I had no license to mine.

    “I made my case and pointed out to them that I was never going to succumb to their whims and caprices,” he explained.

    The NPP Chairman divulged that despite producing all the necessary documentations to show that his company was doing business legitimately, the former president still ordered operatives of the national security to confiscate his mining equipment and succeeded in closing it operations.

    He said more than 5000 people lost their jobs after security operative unlawfully raided the company.

    “I felt a lot of pain and I will never forgive Mr Mahama,” he retorted.

  • Election 2020: Mahama meets NAGRAT leadership

    The flagbearer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Mahama on Wednesday, 5 February 2020 met with the national executives of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT).

    The meeting forms part of the NDC’s consultative meetings with various groupings ahead of the preparation of their manifesto for the 2020 elections.

    The discussions centred on improving teaching and learning in schools, challenges facing teachers and its effects on quality education and suggestions from the graduate teachers to tackle and improve on existing challenges and issues.

    Present were the National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, and senior members of the party including Professor Joshua Alabi, Madam Sherry Ayittey, Moses Magbengba, the Ranking Member on the Education Committee in parliament Nortsu Kortoe among others.

  • Koku Anyidoho ‘deserts’ Mahama, asks him to carry his own Airbus cross

    A former Director of Communications at the Office of the President under the John Evans Atta-Mills administration, Koku Anyidoho has served notice of not defending the flagbearer of the NDC in the wake of the Airbus debacle.

    Anyidoho, who appeared on Nana Fianko’s afternoon show on ATV, indicated that he is “nobody’s pawn” and is neither anybody’s henchman to go out there and fight for them on the Airbus scandal.

    A scandalized looking Koku, when asked to talk about the raging Airbus bribery scandal declined to comment.

    Throwing his hands into the air when Nana Fianko persistently asked him to say something about the matter, Koku Anyidoho reminded the host that “time was up to end the show” so if there was “nothing else to deliberate on, he should be excused”.

    “…the time is up….i walk out (of the studio),” he told the host, whiles parodying “my lips are sealed” sign.

    In what has become the biggest corporate bribery scandal in the world, Europe’s largest and arguably the world’s largest aerospace manufacturing company, Airbus, has admitted to having paid bribes to people in certain countries to influence their business transactions with those countries.

    Out of the over fifty countries on the African Continent, Ghana, got a mention.

    Airbus admitted that it paid kickbacks to a Government Official 1 through a blood relation, Intermediary 4 or Consultant 4. Government Official 1 is known to be former President John Dramani Mahama while the Intermediary 5 happens to be a sibling of his, Samuel Mahama; as claimed by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

    Anyidoho, a close ally of Mills of blessed memory, is believed to know much more about the Airbus deal because of his closeness with the deceased Ghanaian leader. It is not clear why he doesn’t want to speak to the latest incident.

  • We will replace one district, one factory with staple processing zones – Mahama

    Former President John Dramani Mahama has indicated that the next National Democratic Congress government will replace the one district, one factory programme to staple processing zones.

    That, he said would encourage farmers and investors to pump in more resources into the processing sector as they would not be restricted by political demarcations.

    Former President Mahama who was interacting with Journalists in Accra said the current one district, one factory was not plausible as not all districts were endowed and resourceful enough to come out with workable and sustainable factories to create jobs.

    He explained that creating the staple processing zones would ensure a constant supply of raw materials to the factories, as the suppliers would not be limited by political demarcations as in the case of one district, one factory policy.

    The Former President said under the staple processing zones, the government would identify areas that had a comparative advantage in the production of certain staple foods and establish factories that would rely on a constant supply of raw materials and create wealth for farmers.

    He also gave the assurance that his next administration would revamp the cocoa industry, which he said was taking a nosedive since 2017.

    The revamping, he said would be hinged on regular and timely supply of inputs, free fertilizers, rehabilitation of cocoa-growing areas roads, revamp the Produce Buying Company and equip them adequately to take over the buying of cocoa and other indigenous produce, to eliminate the monopoly of foreigners in that sector.
