Man United suffer home defeat against Brighton

Brighton achieved a remarkable 3-1 victory against Manchester United, adding to the woes of Erik ten Hag’s team following a tumultuous two weeks marked by controversies.

Jadon Sancho was excluded from the first-team squad, and Antony was granted a leave of absence due to assault allegations that emerged after their disappointing last-minute defeat to Arsenal.

On Saturday afternoon, Brighton compounded Manchester United’s misery on the field, with goals from Danny Welbeck, Pascal Gross, and Joao Pedro, offset only by Hannibal Mejbri’s consolation effort.

This defeat marked the end of Manchester United’s 31-game unbeaten streak at home in all competitions and occurred against the very team that last defeated them at Old Trafford during Erik ten Hag’s inaugural match in charge.

Welbeck, a former United player, opened the scoring, while Marcus Rashford’s strike struck the woodwork and Rasmus Hojlund’s first goal for the club was disallowed by VAR.

Gross, who netted both goals in last season’s win at Old Trafford, extended Brighton’s lead early in the second half, and substitute Pedro added another goal.

Despite Hannibal’s goal, there was no dramatic comeback akin to United’s recent home game against Nottingham Forest. Attention now shifts to Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Bayern Munich.

Brighton, on the other hand, can look forward to a historic Europa League match against AEK Athens after securing only their second victory at Old Trafford in their history.

De Zerbi made six surprising changes, while Ten Hag made three and opted for a midfield diamond that initially troubled the visitors.

Rashford’s skill and determination led to a low shot saved by Jason Steele, and Hojlund headed over. The two nearly combined when the newcomer stretched for Rashford’s cross.

However, Brighton remained composed and took the lead in the 20th minute through a well-executed move. Welbeck surged toward the box after playing wide to Simon Adingra, whose low cross from the right was cleverly left by Adam Lallana for the 32-year-old to score.

The goal injected energy into Brighton fans, but United responded five minutes before halftime. Rashford’s stepovers allowed him to reach the byline and pull back for Hojlund, who turned and poked the ball into the net for what seemed like his first United goal.

However, VAR intervened, and referee Jarred Gillett was informed by VAR Chris Kavanagh that the ball had gone out of play before Rashford made the pass.

United tried to rally, with Rashford looking dangerous, but Brighton remained determined to secure a second goal.

Gross capitalized on a pass from Tariq Lamptey just inside the box, sending Lisandro Martinez tumbling with a shoulder feint before scoring in front of the away fans.

United struggled to recover from that 53rd-minute blow, and Ten Hag made a change, replacing Hojlund with Martial, a decision that was met with audible disapproval.

Rashford’s free-kick was saved as the hosts desperately sought a goal, but Brighton struck again in the 71st minute.

Lamptey sprinted down the left, cut the ball back to substitute Pedro, who opened his body to fire a right-footed shot past Onana.

United managed to pull one back immediately, courtesy of young Hannibal, who unleashed a shot from 25 yards that beat Steele.

Victor Lindelof headed over, but intelligent Brighton controlled the game, exploiting the gaps left by the desperate hosts.

Kaoru Mitoma, substitute Evan Ferguson, and debutant Ansu Fati saw their shots saved as the clock ran down, with Onana stopping the latter again in stoppage time.

Sergio Regulion joins Man United on loan

Sergio Reguilon has made a loan move to Manchester United from Tottenham Hotspur, with the loan period extending until June 2024.

The 26-year-old left-back boasts an impressive career, having accumulated 230 appearances for clubs such as Real Madrid, Sevilla, Tottenham Hotspur, and Atletico Madrid. He has also earned six caps while representing Spain.

Reguilon’s career highlights include winning the Europa League and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Sergio Reguilon said: “In life you have to be ready for everything and the chance to represent this great club with such an illustrious history is one that I could not turn down.

“Having spoken to the manager, I know what he needs from me, and I am ready to play my part in helping the team to achieve success.

“I know that I can contribute to Manchester United this season; I am ready to fight for this group and show everyone my qualities.”

John Murtough, Manchester United Football Director, said: “Once it became clear that we needed to bring in another left-back we assessed a number of targets and acted quickly to sign Sergio. He possesses all the required qualities to help us achieve our aims this season.

“He has good experience in both the Premier League and in European competitions, so he is ready to come into the squad and perform straight away.”

Henderson leaves Man United to Crystal Palace

Dean Henderson has officially completed a permanent transfer from Manchester United to fellow Premier League outfit Crystal Palace.

At 26 years old, Henderson’s departure marks the conclusion of a twelve-year tenure with Manchester United.

During his time with the club, he amassed a wealth of experience, including loan spells with five different teams, including Stockport County, Grimsby Town, Shrewsbury Town, Sheffield United, and Nottingham Forest.

Henderson’s journey with Manchester United began when he joined their youth system at the age of 11, eventually rising through the ranks to become one of the many Academy graduates who earned a place in the first team.

Henderson made his United debut against Luton Town in our 3-0 Carabao Cup fourth-round triumph back in September 2020 and stated after the game: “I dreamt about this my whole life.”

Subsequently, he followed up his debut performance for the Reds with a second appearance in our Carabao Cup fifth-round match against Brighton. Once again, he maintained a clean sheet in a convincing 3-0 victory over Brighton.

Dean Henderson’s overall contributions included a total of 22 appearances for the club, encompassing six matches in European competitions, spanning both the UEFA Champions League and Europa League.

  • Mourinho reportedly in talks with Mason after uncertain future at Man Utd

Mourinho reportedly in talks with Mason after uncertain future at Man Utd

Reports suggest that Jose Mourinho has made contact with Manchester United’s troubled striker Mason Greenwood, expressing interest in bringing him to AS Roma.

Greenwood’s future in professional football remains uncertain as Manchester United has not provided a clear path forward following his highly publicized case last year.

The 21-year-old was temporarily suspended by the club following allegations of sexual assault and coercive behavior.

Although he was arrested and appeared in court, the Crown Prosecution Services subsequently dropped the charges against him.

The dropped charges technically allow the striker to resume playing. However, Manchester United has indicated that they will conduct their own internal investigations before clearing Greenwood for a return.

There have been reports suggesting that the club may consider loaning him out, and several clubs have shown interest.

According to Goal, AS Roma, under the management of Jose Mourinho, has entered the race for Greenwood’s signature, with Mourinho personally reaching out to the player.

    Mourinho contacts Greenwood

The Special One is said to have reached out to the player’s father to discuss the possibility of a loan move to the Serie A.

“Jose rang Mason’s dad and also spoke with Mason. He told him the best way out of his current situation is to start playing football — and that, eventually, all the hassle will fade away,” a source told the Sun.

It was during Mourinho’s reign at Old Trafford that Greenwood was promoted to the senior team and signed his first professional contract.

He would then later blossom under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before his career was halted by his court cases.

The Giallarossi are actively looking for a striker, with Tammy Abraham set to be out for at least nine months after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

    Greenwood spotted training in public

This comes at a time when Greenwood was spotted training for the first time since he was arrested and arraigned in court last year. The striker has been away from competitive football for more than 15 months following his sexual assault charges.

Sports Brief reported that with his future in Manchester still in limbo, the 21-year-old has seemingly taken steps to get back into shape ahead of a possible return to professional football.

  • Man Utd keeper linked with move to Ronaldo’s Al Nassr

Man Utd keeper linked with move to Ronaldo’s Al Nassr

David de Gea, the out-of-contract goalkeeper of Manchester United, has been linked with a potential move to Al Nassr, where he could reunite with Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Spanish goalkeeper, who is currently a free agent after his contract expired at the end of June, has yet to agree on a contract extension with United, as reported by Goal.

De Gea’s future with the Red Devils remains uncertain, especially as Manchester United is rumored to be actively searching for a formidable replacement.

Andre Onana, the Inter Milan goalkeeper, is said to be at the top of United’s wishlist, with reports suggesting that the club is pursuing a deal for the Cameroonian shot-stopper.

Which way for David de Gea?

Apparently, De Gea is not expected to fall short of transfer options in the event Man United decide to part ways with him.

The Sun reports the Spanish keeper is a transfer target for Saudi giants Al Nassr in a transfer deal that could see him reunite with Ronaldo.

According to the publication, the former Atletico Madrid ace could pocket as much as £250,000-a-week if he seals the move.

De Gea has spent more than a decade at Old Trafford, having joined United in 2011 under the then-manager, Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Spaniard has gone on to make over 500 appearances for the club and was part of the team that won the last Premier League title during the 2012/13 season.

  • Man United, Chelsea racing for Brighton’s Caicedo

Man United, Chelsea racing for Brighton’s Caicedo

Chelsea is preparing to begin negotiations with Brighton regarding the potential transfer of midfielder Moises Caicedo, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues are confident that reaching personal terms with the 21-year-old will not be a problem, as Caicedo is already eager to make the move to Stamford Bridge.

During the January transfer window, Caicedo attracted interest from several Premier League clubs.

However, he opted to remain at the Amex Stadium and signed a new contract, with the understanding that he would be permitted to explore a transfer if interest in his services resurfaced during the summer.

Competition is expected to arrive from Manchester United, with Sky Sports reporting that the club are also interested in the Ecuador international.

Previous reports have indicated that it would take an offer of around £80 million ($101.1m) to persuade manager Roberto De Zerbi to part ways with his star midfielder, who played in 37 of 38 Premier League matches last season.

  • Man Utd’s Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad likely to bring back Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Man Utd’s Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad likely to bring back Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

There are reports suggesting that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could make a return to Manchester United if Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani’s bid is successful.

The potential new owner is interested in offering a role to the retired striker and former manager.

Solskjaer, who was a key player in Sir Alex Ferguson’s successful era in the late 90s and early 2000s, later returned to the club as a manager after the sacking of Jose Mourinho.

During his time as manager, the Norwegian oversaw a mixed period, failing to secure any major trophies but achieving a respectable second-place finish behind Manchester City.

However, he was ultimately sacked in 2021, leading to the appointment of Ralf Rangnick on an interim basis.

Rangnick left at the end of his short-term contract with current boss Erik ten Hag, starting off last summer.

    Solskjaer’s role at Manchester United

The Daily Mail now reports that Sheikh Joassim will be willing to give the former boss a role at Old Trafford should his bid be successful.

The Qatari is believed to be among the frontrunners t acquire Manchester United, with current owners Glazer family looking to sell a part or the whole club.

The race is now down to Sheikh Jassim and Britain’s richest man Jim Ratcliffe.

The report indicates that the Qatari Royal is keen on leaving the running of the club to former legends and Solskjaer’s name has been floated as one of the candidates.

It is highly unlikely that the running of the club in this sense will mean a change of managers, with ten Hag having done a splendid job in his first season in charge.

Last month, the revealed that he was interested in getting back to work.

“I’ve got another job in me if it’s the right chance and exciting enough. There are so many clubs, but I’m not going to work just for the sake of working. It has to be something special, a new culture, or a club that really excites me.

Or maybe they will want me back at United in some capacity, who knows?” as quoted by the Mirror.

    Mbappe on Sheikh Jassim’s radar

Sports Brief had also reported that even before his dream of acquiring Manchester United goes through, Sheikh Jassim is already plotting big-money moves should he take over as the new owner.

He intends to make some high-profile signings, led by Kylian Mbappe, who despite extending his Paris Saint-Germain contract last year, continues to be linked with a move away.

Real Madrid have always been the perceived option for the 24-year-old, and it will be interesting to see just what lengths Sheikh Jassim would be willing to pursue to see the transfer materialise.

  • Man United decide on Greenwood’s comeback after controversial case

Man United decide on Greenwood’s comeback after controversial case

Manchester United has reached a resolution to send Mason Greenwood on loan for the upcoming season following the dropping of his case earlier this year in February.

Greenwood has been away from competitive action for more than 15 months after he was arrested and arraigned in court on the grounds of sexual assault and coercive behaviour.

He was suspended indefinitely by the club, but after the Crown Prosecution Services dropped his case, it was thought he could make a quick comeback.

Manchester United opted against rushing the decision, promising to conduct their own internal investigations before providing a way forward. It is now understood that the club has decided to send the 21-year-old striker out on loan next season.

The Daily Mail reports that Spain, Italy or Turkey have been identified as potential targets. The other options include releasing the player should investigations reveal that he brought disrepute to the club.

His likely return has in the past been reported to be the cause of disharmony, especially among Manchester United’s Women’s team.

Serie A giants AC Milan are understood to be among the clubs interested in the striker, who has two years remaining on his current deal.

A chance to move abroad could offer him an opportunity to revitalise his career. AC Milan will be in the market for new strikers, with the likes of Olivier Giroud approaching the end of his career. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has since retired, while Divock Origi is yet to impress fully.

  • Man United historic changes in decades old badge infuriates fans

Man United historic changes in decades old badge infuriates fans

Manchester United fans have been expressing their anger following a significant alteration to the club’s iconic badge.

It has been reported that the club’s upcoming third kit for the next season will showcase notable changes, particularly to the badge design, as Adidas, the kit designer, has chosen a minimalist approach.

According to The Sun, the new kit will feature a simplified representation of the devil instead of the traditional club crest, which has been a prominent symbol associated with Manchester United for many years.

    Man Utd badge

This modification has provoked a strong reaction from supporters of the club.

The publication adds that the kit will also be without the words ‘Manchester United’, the club’s badge layout or the ship, which have been mainstay features on United’s merchandise since the 1970s.

Leaked photos of the new design showed that the kit will only feature a devil, which is white in colour.

This has not gone down well with a majority of fans, who quickly took to social media to express their displeasure with the new design.

    @forealutd tweeted:

“We’re the Red Devils and our badge has a devil so why not?”

    @MTrenardSikse added:

“Not a fan of this at all.”

    @UTDTushar concluded:

    “This is insane tbh.”

    Man United badge changes

It is understood that Manchester United have not changed their badge since 1998, the year before they won the treble.

At the time, only the words football club were removed.

Meanwhile, there has been a raging debate if the ship on the United’s badge is an appropriate symbol as it risks the association with the slave trade.

However, according to The Athletic, the latest changes are purely a design choice made by Adidas, who are United’s kit makers.

Be that as it may, the Red Devils’ home and away kits will still feature the classic badge.

    Ten Hag speaks on Greenwood

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has broken his long silence on Mason Greenwood’s situation at Old Trafford.

Greenwood has not played for the Red Devils for more than 16 months following his suspension at the club after he was arrested and charged with assault.

  • Chelsea revel in defeat “you’re nothing special, we lose every week” in United clash

Chelsea revel in defeat “you’re nothing special, we lose every week” in United clash

Manchester United secured their spot in the Champions League for the upcoming season with a convincing victory over Chelsea on May 25. However, fans of rival teams did not respond positively to the news.

Chelsea entered the game after a 1-0 loss to Manchester City and having endured 15 defeats throughout the season, which left their supporters feeling pessimistic.

While facing the Manchester United fans, the opposing supporters taunted them with the chant: “You’re nothing special, we lose every week,” highlighting their team’s consistent struggles throughout the 2022/23 season.

United fans also showed their humour as well, as there were also chants from the home support that said something to the effect of ‘Super Franky Lampard’.

Chelsea have been in shambles this season, despite immense expenditure from new co-owner Todd Boehly, with Lampard becoming their third manager this season after the sackings of Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter.

The Blues will certainly not be playing in Europe next season, with incoming boss, Mauricio Pochettino facing an uphill task of convincing some of the superstars to remain at Stamford Bridge.

    United make statement with win

As far as the game went, Casemiro opened the scoring for the Red Devils before Anthony Martial made it 2-0 deep into stoppage time in the first half.

Bruno Fernandes then converted a penalty in the 73rd minute after a foul from Wesley Fofana, as Marcus Rashford completed the rout minutes later after coming on from the bench, as reported by the BBC.

Chelsea could only muster a consolation goal from Joao Felix as the Blues suffered their eight defeat in 10 games.

The only worry in an otherwise fine night for United will be the injury to winger Antony, who left the pitch in tears after a dangerous challenge from Trevoh Chalobah.

    Salah blasts Liverpool over UCL

Elsewhere, Sports Brief reported on Mohamed Salah’s scathing statement against Liverpool after his team failed to qualify for the Champions League.

This is the first time the Reds will not be in the top European competition since 2017, the same year the Egyptian ace joined the Merseyside team.

In a statement on his personal social media, Salah proclaimed there was ‘no excuse’ on Liverpool’s part for failing to be in the Premier League top four.

‘Why are you crying’ ? West Ham’s Declan Rice goes back on his words to Rashford

During the Premier League match between West Ham and Manchester United on Sunday evening, May 7th, there was a situation where Declan Rice did not keep a promise he made to Marcus Rashford.

Both football players played against each other as United visited the London Stadium. The Red Devils were eager to win the game to increase their chances of qualifying for the Champions League.

Nevertheless, the Hammers won the match, thanks to Said Benrahma’s goal in the first half, which gave them a home victory over Erik ten Hag’s team.

According to Goal, David de Gea was responsible for his side’s defeat, with his costly goalkeeping blunder earning the home side a vital win.

    Rice breaks promise to Rashford

An off-field moment involving Rice and Rashford has become a major talking point, especially on social media.

The Mirror reports that Rice had promised to hand his match-worn shirt to Rasshford after the encounter, only for the midfielder to give it to a young fan, who was crying in the stands.

A video capturing the moment showed Rice gifting his shirt after he spotted the youngster in tears.

“Are you alright, brother? Why are you crying?” Rice asked the kid before giving him a big hug.

The young lad went on to ask for the midfielder’s shirt, to which the West Ham ace replied:

“You know what, I did promise it to Rashford. Don’t show them a lot [some other fans] because I’ve just told them I’m going to give it to Rashford, but I’ll give him another one!”

Chelsea could help Arsenal land Rice

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Chelsea could reportedly play an important role in Arsenal’s pursuit of the services of West Ham United midfielder, Declan Rice.

Rice has courted interest from a number of Premier League clubs over the years, with Manchester United also linked with a potential transfer move for the West Ham skipper.

  • Watch how Man Utd star Antony eluded red card for kicking opponent

Watch how Man Utd star Antony eluded red card for kicking opponent

Manchester United’s winger Antony was fortunate to avoid a red card after he kicked an opponent during the Premier League game against Brighton and Hove Albion on May 4th.

The Brazilian was back in the starting line-up after being benched in United’s previous game against Aston Villa. He started on his preferred right flank and could have scored in the opening 90 seconds of the match.

The match at the Amex Stadium was a tight affair, with both sides unable to break the deadlock.

The goalkeepers on both teams were called into action to make some top-class saves. The game was also marked by some questionable decisions from referee Andre Marriner, who allowed the game to flow without making major interruptions.

However, the match’s free-flowing nature came at a cost, with both teams feeling frustrated by some of the fouls that went unpunished. Many in the South Coast felt that Casemiro should have been sent off for a second yellow card.

The frustrations were even higher after Antony aimed a petulant kick at Alexis MacAllister in the second half.

Antony’s action was prompted by his belief that he had been held back by MacAllister, and the referee had failed to spot it.

He retaliated by lashing out with a kick, which was clearly intentional. His actions were met with widespread criticism from fans and pundits alike.

Antony’s kick could easily have resulted in a red card, which would have left United down to ten men. It would have also resulted in a significant setback for the club’s pursuit of a top-four finish.

The winger’s actions are not the first time that he has found himself at the center of controversy this season. In February, he was given a four-game ban for using discriminatory language towards an opponent during a Europa League match. The incident highlighted the need for more education and awareness around issues of racism and discrimination in football.

United’s manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, was quick to condemn Antony’s actions after the match, stating that he did not condone violent behavior on the pitch. He also expressed his disappointment that the referee had not taken stronger action against some of the fouls committed during the match.

The incident has once again raised questions about the role of referees in modern football and the need for greater consistency in decision-making.

Many fans and pundits have called for the introduction of VAR in the Premier League, which would allow officials to review incidents and make more accurate decisions.

However, others argue that VAR has not been successful in reducing controversy and has led to delays in game time.

They also point out that referees should be given more support and training to help them make better decisions on the pitch.

Regardless of the debate around VAR, it is clear that players must take responsibility for their actions on the pitch.

    Antony kicks opponent

Antony’s kick was a clear example of violent behavior that has no place in football. The incident should serve as a reminder to all players of the need to show respect and sportsmanship towards their opponents.

As for Manchester United, the club will need to ensure that their players are held accountable for their actions and that they continue to promote a culture of respect and fair play. With several important matches coming up, including a Europa League final against Villarreal, there is no room for complacency.

The Video Assistant Referee was content with Marriner’s decision to award just a yellow card.

The former Ajax man was then hooked off, with Jadon Sancho taking his place. Brighton’s skipper, Lewis Dunk also got booked in the game.

Antony’s woes were compounded when Luke Shaw handled the ball inside his own penalty area deep into stoppage time, with Mac Allister stepping up to score the resultant penalty.

The defeat meant the Seagulls completed a season double over United and got their revenge for the FA Cup semi-final defeat.

    How Brighton beat Man United

Sports Brief also reported on Brighton getting revenge against United for the FA Cup semi-final loss, with Mac Allister scoring from the spot in the dying seconds.

A classy Seagulls side dominated the possession but lacked a cutting edge until Shaw’s handball deep into injury time gave them a chance to claim all three points.

The result leaves United in fourth place in the Premier League with five games to play – only four points clear of Liverpool, while Brighton are now up to sixth place.

Europa League: Sevilla show Man Utd the exit

Manchester United lost 3-0 in the away leg of their quarterfinal, giving Sevilla another opportunity to score twice, and as a result, they were eliminated from the Europa League.

The game on Thursday at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan began with the score tied at 2-2 after two late own goals at Old Trafford.

Youssef En-Nesyri contributed to United’s elimination with a brace following mistakes by David de Gea and Harry Maguire in the defense.

Juventus will play Sevilla in the semi-finals after Sevilla advanced with a 5-2 aggregate victory thanks to goals from Loic Bade and other players.

De Gea fed the ball into Maguire, who was quickly surrounded by three attackers on the edge of the penalty area and saw his attempted pass intercepted by Erik Lamela before En-Nesyri calmly slotted home.

Sevilla continued to pose the greater threat and the VAR came to United’s rescue five minutes before the break when Marcos Acuna strayed offside before Lucas Ocampos brilliantly fired past De Gea.

It was only a temporary reprieve as Ivan Rakitic’s corner looped up off Bade’s shoulder and over De Gea at the start of the second half.

Ocampos somehow failed to add a third in a goalmouth scramble, allowing United to attempt their own two-goal comeback as Casemiro and Christian Eriksen went close.

But any hopes of a United recovery were ended nine minutes from time when De Gea raced out of his box and failed to make clean contact with a clearance, giving En-Nesyri the opportunity to curl his shot around the stranded goalkeeper.

Take a look at the potential Man United, Sevilla lineups

On Thursday, April 20, the second leg of Manchester United’s Europa League quarterfinal matchup against Sevilla is scheduled.

During the exciting game, a place in the semifinals will be on the line, and both teams are eager to advance.

When both clubs agreed to a 2-2 draw in the rematch played at Old Trafford last week, The Evening Standard believes that there will be something to play for in Andalusia.

United looked on course to put one foot in the semis after they raced into a 2-0 lead in that clash, only for major defensive blunders involving Harry Maguire and Tyrell Malacia to throw the tie wide open.

    Man United team news

United will take their trip to Spain on the back of a sudden injury crisis which has hit the team in recent days.

Erik ten Hag is in danger of missing the service of a number of key players, with defence the worst hit departed.

The duo of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez is expected to miss the tie, with the latter ruled out for the rest of the season.

Marcel Sabitzer, who shone in the first leg, is the other star player expected to miss the Andalusia trip alongside youngster Alejandro Garnacho.

Tom Heaton, Donny van de Beek and Phil Jones are all long-term absentees and will play no role.

Be that as it may, Ten Hag has been boosted with the imminent return of Marcus Rashford, who was recently spotted in training.

Christian Eriksen is the other player back from injury and is in contention for a starting spot.

    Predicted Man United XI

Given how crucial the tie is, Ten Hag is expected to field a strong XI for the away clash.

The Dutchman is likely to settle for a 4-2-3-1 formation, with David de Gea expected to keep his place between the sticks.

Harry Maguire is in line to partner Victor Lindelof at the heart of defence in the absence of both Varane and Martinez, with Luke Shaw returning on the left.

The biggest headache would be on the right, with Ten Hag likely to overlook Aaron WanBissaka in favour of Diogo Dalot, who was impressive against Nottingham Forest last weekend.

In midfield, Casemiro is expected to partner Eriksen in a defensive role, with Bruno Fernandes playing as a No.10.

Antony and Rashford are likely to lead the attack on either flank, with the returning Anthony Martial playing as the sole striker.

See how Man Utd could like next season with Osimhen, Mitoma, and Bellingham

If some of Manchester United’s transfer targets are signed this summer, the team may undergo significant changes.

Under the direction of Erik ten Hag, United has had arguably a successful season. In February, the Dutchman gave the team its first trophy in nearly seven years.

The Europa League is one of two more trophies that the Red Devils are still in the running for.

Victory in the Premier League game between Manchester United and Liverpool FC at Old Trafford is celebrated by Erik ten Hag.

Be that as it may, Ten Hag is understood to be keen on strengthening his squad further this summer to help him challenge for more trophies next season.

According to Metro UK, United are looking to sign a prolific striker and have Napoli’s Victor Osimhen top on their shortlist.

The Old Trafford dwellers are also expected to add a central midfielder within their ranks to partner Casemiro.

United had initially touted Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong for the role, but The Sun claims Borussia Dortmund ace Jude Bellingham is now a top priority.

Ten Hag is also likely to move for a right winger following Antony’s struggles since his arrival from Ajax.

    Man United possible starting XI

Should Man United seal the three transfers, we are likely to see a much changed United team from next season.

David de Gea is expected to continue guarding the net next season, with the long-serving United shot stopper in line to renew his contract at Old Trafford.

Having already been frozen out of the starting XI, Harry Maguire may have to settle for a place on the bench should he continue at the club, with Ten Hag possibly continuing with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez at the heart of his defence.

Diogo Dalot has been touted as the long term right-back at the Theatre of Dreams, leaving Wan-Bissaka staring at a bleak future with the club.

That said, Dalot is likely to be partnered with Luke Shaw on either flank of the backline, with Tyrell Malacia acting as Shaw’s backup in left-back.

In the event United snaps up Bellingham from Dortmund, the Englishman is likely to team up with Casemiro in midfield, with Bruno Fernandes keeping his place as the club’s No.10.

Mitoma would obviously slot in for Antony on the right wing, with Marcus Rashford continuing on the left.

Such a scenario would then see Osimhen drafted into the attack to lead Man United’s goal hunt.

    Napoli name Osimhen price tag

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Napoli have reportedly set the asking price for the club’s top marksman, Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen has courted interest from a number of top clubs across Europe after an impressive season with the Italian club.

Manchester United are among the clubs believed to be keen on the services of the Nigerian international.

While Napoli are said not to be willing to part company with Osimhen, fresh reports indicate the Italian giants would only listen to offers in the region of €150 million.

Rio Ferdinand says he wanted Man Utd to sign Thomas Partey

Rio Ferdinand, a former player for Manchester United, has noted that he wanted to bring Thomas Partey to Manchester United  before the Ghanaian signed with Arsenal in the summer of 2020.

On the Vibe with FIVE podcast, the former English international acknowledged that Partey is a top player and that he holds the midfielder in high regard.

He referred to his earlier appearances on the show, in which he stated that he wanted Partey at Manchester United before Arsenal snatched him, in order to express how much he admires Partey.

“I rate Partey…I’ve done clips that before he went to Arsenal, I was saying Man United should buy Partey,” he said.

When the Partey-Casemiro debate popped up in the discussion, Ferdinand said the comparison is unfair to Partey.

“I genuinely believe he is a top player but if you keep mentioning Casemiro, I don’t think it will be fair on him.”

Thomas Partey has been in sublime form for Arsenal in the 2022/2023 season. He has been the masterstroke and held the Gunners down as they lead the English Premier League table.

Arsenal are yet to record a defeat this season with him on the field. The league leaders, in total, have lost three games.

  • Di Maria’s wife in extraordinary Man United rant

Angel Di Maria’s wife Jorgelina Cardoso has revealed that she “didn’t like anything” about Manchester after her husband swapped Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu for Old Trafford in 2014, describing the experience as “horrible” and referring to England as a “sh*thole”.

The Argentine spent just one season with the Red Devils despite joining for a then record fee for a British club, with his time at United largely remembered for a lack of consistency in performances given the money involved to prise him away from Madrid.

Things were not much better off the pitch either, according to Cardoso, as the couple had argued over the merits of a move to the Premier League long before Di Maria’s ill-fated spell in England’s top flight.

“I remember Angel coming up and saying, ‘An offer from Manchester United has come in. Maybe we’ll be a little more financially secure…’. We fought about it,” she told Los Angeles de la Manana. “I told him, not a chance, he could go on his own. ‘No, come on. Let’s go’, he replied.

“There was a lot of money involved, and afterwards, the Spanish were calling us peseteros (people only interested in money). And they were right! If you are working for a company and the competition comes along and offers to pay you double, you take it!

“I didn’t want to go to Manchester because at that moment in time, I was friends with Gianinna Maradona, who was married to [Sergio] Aguero, and we flew from Madrid to his house in Manchester to pay him a visit for two or three days when Angel had a few days off at Real Madrid.

“It was horrible! All of it was horrible, we went to the house and we were like… ‘See you later guys, we’re out of here’. When we left, I said to him, ‘Go to any country – except England’. Anyway, one year later and there we were in England and it was horrible, a sh*thole.”

Cardoso continued to stress that there was not a single thing she enjoyed about the experience, adding: “I didn’t like anything about it, not a thing. The women are all skinny, prim and proper… weird.

“You’re walking down the street and you don’t know if they’re going to kill you or what. The food’s disgusting. All the girls are all dolled up to the nines, perfectly made-up and there’s me with my hair in a bun and with no make-up on.
