‘I have my own style’ – Man Utd captain Bruno Fernandes to Roy Keane criticism

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has acknowledged his respect for former club skipper Roy Keane but insists he has his own way of leading the team, despite Keane’s criticism of his work ethic.

Fernandes, who was named man of the match in United’s 3-0 victory over struggling Leicester City on Sunday, was recently called out by Keane on the Stick to Football podcast.

The 30-year-old Portuguese midfielder has faced criticism in the past for his on-field behavior, including his constant gestures and complaints, which he admits can sometimes frustrate both teammates and opponents.

“I do things in my own way,” Fernandes told Sky Sports. “Obviously it’s not nice to hear those things about you, but at the same time it motivates you and obviously people think there’s a lot of things you need to improve.

“You have to take it in a positive understanding that whatever people are saying, if it’s a margin to improve or not. I have a huge respect for Roy Keane.

“Obviously not everything I do everyone will like or think in the same way and I respect everyone’s opinion and I have huge respect for Roy Keane and I accept there’s a lot of margin for improvement in my game, in my leadership and everything I do in my life.”

This season, Bruno Fernandes has played 44 matches for Manchester United in all competitions, scoring 16 goals and providing 15 assists. In their win against Leicester, he scored once and set up two more goals.

Manchester United currently sit 13th in the Premier League table with 37 points from 29 games.

“He’s a special guy in that aspect, he is always ready, he can recover quite well,” United manager Ruben Amorim said of his captain. “I don’t know the future but I’m reading what the performance department tell me, the numbers, and then what I see in the game.

“I always see a Bruno that is dangerous and one Bruno that can recover in every situation. So he is going to stay there. I already knew Bruno. What surprised me the most is the way he works every day.”

Man Utd’s CEO warns funds for a new stadium could affect player signings

Manchester United CEO Omar Berrada said there was a risk the club’s investment in a new two billion pound ($2.58 billion) stadium could impact spending on the squad and affect competitiveness for the next five years.

United sit 14th in the Premier League after finishing eighth last season and face a critical balancing act between infrastructure upgrades and on-field ambitions.

“That is a risk. Clearly it’s something we want to avoid,” Berrada told reporters on Tuesday at the unveiling of conceptual images of the new stadium.

“We don’t want to inhibit our ability to invest in the team, for us to continue being competitive while we are building a new stadium.”

Berrada said that the club would make every effort to remain competitive over the period required to build their 100,000-seat stadium that will be the biggest in Britain, next to the existing Old Trafford.

“There are various ways around that; one of the things we are looking at is to shorten the construction timelines so we can have a new stadium within five years, that’s our ambition.”

    About the stadium

Manchester United has unveiled plans to build a new 100,000-seater stadium, which will be the largest in the UK. The new stadium will be constructed next to the existing Old Trafford site, allowing the club to preserve the essence of their historic home while creating a state-of-the-art facility. The project is part of a broader regeneration effort for the Old Trafford area, which aims to bring significant social and economic benefits to the community.

The new stadium is estimated to cost around £2 billion and will feature an umbrella design that harvests solar energy and rainwater. The construction process is expected to take five years, during which Manchester United will continue to play at Old Trafford. The project is anticipated to create thousands of jobs and new homes, as well as attract millions of visitors annually

  • Man Utd’s expenditure cuts affect staff; now allowed only soups and sandwiches

Man Utd’s expenditure cuts affect staff; now allowed only soups and sandwiches

Manchester United has introduced new cost-saving measures under Sir Jim Ratcliffe, restricting staff lunch options to soup and sandwiches at the club’s Carrington training ground. While players remain unaffected by the changes, coaches and analysts must adhere to the reduced meal choices.

This follows an earlier decision to remove complimentary lunchboxes for matchday staff at Old Trafford.

According to The Sun, the club’s cost-cutting efforts have also impacted its youth teams. The Under-18 squad, which traditionally played FA Youth Cup matches at Old Trafford, was instead directed to Leigh Sports Village, reportedly saving Manchester United around £8,000.

In contrast, previous youth teams, including those featuring talents like Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo, benefited from the opportunity to compete at the iconic stadium.

These austerity measures come amid financial struggles for the club. Manchester United recently reported a £27.7 million ($35 million) loss for the last quarter of 2024. Ratcliffe’s restructuring has already led to 250 job losses, with plans to cut an additional 200 positions.

Supporters group MUST has criticized the club’s financial decisions, particularly the costly managerial changes, such as handing Erik ten Hag a contract extension only to sack him four months later, and hiring Dan Ashworth from Newcastle before dismissing him within five months.

Despite the financial belt-tightening, Manchester United continues to struggle on the pitch. Currently sitting 15th in the Premier League, just above West Ham on goal difference, the club faces increasing pressure as it prepares to take on relegation-threatened Ipswich Town in an upcoming fixture.

  • “We are the worst team, maybe, in the history of Man Utd” – Ruben Amorim

“We are the worst team, maybe, in the history of Man Utd” – Ruben Amorim

Ruben Amorim has admitted that his Manchester United team could be the worst in the club’s history after their 3-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.

United struggled throughout the match and couldn’t manage a single shot on target from open play as Brighton controlled the game at Old Trafford.

This defeat marks Amorim’s fourth home loss in the Premier League since he replaced Erik ten Hag, who was dismissed at the end of October.

“We are getting a new coach who is losing more than the last coach,” Amorim said. “I have full knowledge of that. I am not going to change, no matter what.

“I know we can succeed but we need to survive this moment. I am not naive. We need to survive now. We are the worst team, maybe, in the history of Manchester United.

“I know you want headlines but I am saying that because we have to acknowledge that and to change that. Here you go: your headlines.”

After securing good results against Liverpool and Arsenal, Amorim stated that the matches against Southampton and Brighton would reveal more about his players.

Although United managed a 3-1 victory over Southampton, the league’s bottom team, they faced a tough challenge and narrowly avoided a setback. However, they were thoroughly outplayed in their defeat to Brighton.

Since taking charge, Amorim has lost seven out of 15 matches. United currently sit in 13th place on the table, just five spots and 10 points above the relegation zone.

“Everybody here is underperforming, no matter what the circumstances, we are underperforming and have to accept that,” Amorim said.

“It’s unacceptable to lose so many games. For any Premier League club, imagine Manchester United. So it’s a really hard moment but we have to continue, we have to continue, there is no other way. We need to suffer and continue.”

Video: See how Ghana’s Kamaldeen Sulemana gave Man Utd a ‘hard time’ in 3-1 loss clash

Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana delivered an impressive performance for Southampton in their Premier League game against Manchester United on Thursday, January 17, 2025.

Sulemana had a great match and came close to scoring a hat-trick but missed some key chances.

He consistently outplayed Manchester United defender Lenny Yoro, using his speed and skill to get past the French player multiple times.

His standout display caught the attention of Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim, who admitted that his team struggled to handle the Ghanaian winger’s pace and strength.

“A very difficult game. They did a very good job, Southampton, creating spaces between the lines. Their number 20 [Sulemana] had a lot of space behind, and we had a hard time stopping that player,” Amorim said after the game.

Ivorian winger Amad Diallo stole the spotlight as Manchester United staged a thrilling comeback to beat Southampton 3-1.

Southampton seemed poised to take all three points after benefiting from an own goal by Ugarte. However, Amad leveled the score and then netted twice in the final four minutes, securing his hat-trick and sealing United’s victory.

With this win, Manchester United climbed from 15th to 12th on the Premier League table, amassing 26 points from 21 matches. Meanwhile, Southampton remains rooted at the bottom, with only six points from 21 games.

Chelsea said to be eyeing Man Utd target Kolo Muani

Manchester United’s plans to sign Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain could be disrupted by Chelsea, who are also looking to strengthen their attack.

United are interested in Kolo Muani to help solve their goal-scoring issues, especially with Marcus Rashford likely to be sold this winter.

However, Chelsea is reportedly showing strong interest in the player, and with their current position in the top four, they could pose a significant threat to United’s pursuit.

Meanwhile, United is struggling in 14th place in the Premier League, which may make it more difficult to convince Kolo Muani to choose a move to Old Trafford.

Tottenham blasts offensive chants at Old Trafford

Tottenham Hotspur are collaborating with local law enforcement and stadium security to track down fans involved in “disgraceful” anti-gay chants during their 3-0 victory against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

In a statement, Spurs condemned the behavior, stating, “This is entirely intolerable, deeply offensive, and not an appropriate way to support the team.”

“The Club will be working closely with the Police and stewards to identify anyone instigating or joining in with the chanting — we shall take the strongest possible action in accordance with our Sanctions and Banning Policy.”

Tottenham has encouraged fans at Premier League matches to confidentially report any incidents they witness to the club.

“We shall be continuing our work with our LGBTQ+ supporters’ association, Proud Lilywhites, to ensure a welcoming and inclusive environment for all fans on matchdays,” the club said.

“We all have a responsibility to act as ambassadors of Tottenham Hotspur, and discrimination of any kind has no place at our club.”

  • Chelsea-Man United WSL match postponed due to UWCL scheduling

Chelsea-Man United WSL match postponed due to UWCL scheduling

Chelsea’s Women’s Super League match against Manchester United, originally scheduled for Oct. 6, has been postponed with just a week’s notice due to its proximity to the club’s first Champions League game.

UEFA revealed on Saturday that Chelsea would face Real Madrid at Kingsmeadow on Oct. 8, just two days after the WSL fixture.

The WSL issued a statement confirming the decision, citing concerns over player welfare as the reason for the postponement.

“We apologise for any inconvenience to fans. In this instance, we have to put player welfare first, and we will announce a new date for the fixture in due course,” the league said.

“We thank the clubs and Sky Sports for their understanding as we work on a resolution.”

Both Chelsea, the defending WSL champions, and Manchester United have won both of their opening two league games of their respective campaigns.

“It’s not ideal; however, in the best interests of the players for both Chelsea and Manchester United, it’s probably the right decision if it benefits their safety,” United manager Marc Skinner told a post-match news conference after his side’s 1-0 win over Everton on Sunday.

“It’s frustrating we don’t have a game at the weekend, but we can work around that.”

Chelsea were eliminated from the Champions League in the semifinals last season, losing to the eventual champions, Barcelona.

In the final, Barcelona defeated Sonia Bompastor’s Lyon 2-0. Bompastor later succeeded Emma Hayes as Chelsea’s manager during the summer.

  • Losing my job not my concern – Erik ten Hag after 3-0 loss to Tottenham

Losing my job not my concern – Erik ten Hag after 3-0 loss to Tottenham

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has stated he isn’t worried about losing his job, despite a crushing 3-0 loss to Tottenham at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Although Bruno Fernandes was shown a red card in the first half, United struggled throughout the match, even before being reduced to 10 men.

With just three wins from their opening eight matches this season, the defeat is expected to add more scrutiny to Ten Hag’s position at the helm.

Asked whether he is concerned his United bosses could look to change the manager, Ten Hag said: “I am not thinking about this.

“We made the decision from a clear review [in the summer] what we have to improve and how we want to construct a squad, but we knew it would take some time. We need some time. We are all on one page or in one boat together. The ownership, the staff, and the players as well. I don’t have that concern.”

Erik ten Hag expressed frustration over the manner in which Manchester United conceded during their 1-1 Europa League draw against FC Twente on Wednesday.

Bart van Rooij effortlessly cut through United’s midfield to score, a mistake that was mirrored just days later when Spurs defender Micky van de Ven made a similar run, leading to Tottenham’s early goal in the opening three minutes.

Despite these back-to-back defensive lapses, Ten Hag remains confident that his squad is still paying attention to his instructions, though his annoyance at conceding such goals twice in a short span was evident.

    “Yes, I am,” he said.

“But it is clear and obvious when you concede a goal like this again; it shouldn’t happen, especially when we address it so loudly and clearly.”

It won’t get any easier for Ten Hag with United facing tough trips to FC Porto and Aston Villa this week.

The game at Villa Park on Sunday is United’s last before the international break, and another poor performance will ramp up the calls for Ten Hag to be dismissed.

“There is always a new game,” he said.

“It will be a new day, and it is also obvious you have to learn as a team. It can’t happen twice in four days that a defender can dribble through the whole team. You can’t make such mistakes in football.”

  • Trust my words – Ten Hag on benching Rashford during Crystal Palace game

Trust my words – Ten Hag on benching Rashford during Crystal Palace game

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has called for trust regarding his decision to bench Marcus Rashford for Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace.

Ahead of the match, Ten Hag had praised the England forward’s recent form, noting Rashford’s return to top performance after regaining control of his career, with three goals in his last two games.

However, in a surprising move, the Dutchman opted to start Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo instead, leaving Rashford on the bench. The 26-year-old eventually came on to replace Joshua Zirkzee after an hour of play.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp claimed “there’s obviously something that’s happened” for Ten Hag to leave Rashford out.

That theory was rejected as “crazy” after the game, with Ten Hag saying he was just rotating his squad, adding: “As a person you are not OK when you bring such speculation if you don’t know what’s going on.”

Earlier this week on the Rest is Football podcast, host Gary Lineker and former England striker Alan Shearer also questioned Ten Hag’s decision., external

Asked about the future around Rashford, before Ten Hag’s side’s opening Europa League game against his boyhood club FC Twente, he said on Tuesday: “I didn’t understand the criticism. People are not entitled to bring speculation.

“If I give an explanation they have to trust my words. If they don’t, that’s not right.”

Sir Alex Ferguson says he misses his Man Utd job sometimes

Former manager of Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson, has revealed that he occasionally misses his managerial role, even 11 years after retiring from his illustrious career.

At 82, Ferguson stepped down from United following the 2012-13 season, having successfully led the team to reclaim the Premier League title from Manchester City.

In a recent interview with the BBC, which was broadcast on Friday, he shared that there are moments when he reflects on his time in charge.

“Yeah, I miss it sometimes,” he said. “I think the first year after retirement, I went to the European final and I said to [his late wife] Cathy: ‘This is what I miss—big games, the European games.’

“So then I went to most of the European finals because I find something I can relate to, something I would liked to have done every day. Because these are the big events that United should always be involved in.”

Sir Alex Ferguson is recognised as the most successful manager in English football, having secured 13 league titles, two Champions League trophies, five FA Cups, and four League Cups during his tenure at Manchester United.

Since his exit in 2013, the club has faced challenges in achieving both trophies and stability, with David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and currently Erik ten Hag all having taken the managerial reins at Old Trafford.

This Saturday, United will head to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace.

Man Utd’s Anthony Martial joins AEK Athens

Former France forward Anthony Martial (28), who left Manchester United in June after nine years at the club, has joined AEK Athens, the Greek top-flight club said on Wednesday.

The France international has signed for the 13-times Greek champions on a free transfer and will earn 2.5 million pounds ($3.30 million) per season, making him one of AEK’s highest earners, British media reports said.

In an Instagram post, AEK welcomed Martial, who has won the Europa League and an FA Cup title at United, scoring 63 Premier League goals for the club in 209 appearances.

AEK, who added former Tottenham Hotspur and Sevilla midfielder Erik Lamela to their squad this summer, currently lead the Super League Greece standings.

They have accumulated 10 points from their first four matches and will host Kallithea on Sunday.

  • Fans ‘accuse’ Casemiro of attempting to stop Garnacho from mimicking CR7 celebration, pose

Fans ‘accuse’ Casemiro of attempting to stop Garnacho from mimicking CR7 celebration, pose

Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho was seemingly stopped by teammate Casemiro from mimicking Cristiano Ronaldo’s signature celebration during their Carabao Cup clash against Barnsley.

Garnacho was one of three United players to score twice as Erik ten Hag’s team dominated in a resounding 7-0 victory, advancing comfortably to the fourth round.

The Argentina netted on either side of halftime, while Marcus Rashford and Christian Eriksen also bagged two goals each. Ten Hag expressed satisfaction after Antony successfully converted a penalty, marking his first goal of the season.

Despite the jubilant atmosphere at Old Trafford, Casemiro’s subtle intervention hinted at a desire to keep things in check when Garnacho looked ready to celebrate like Ronaldo after his first goal.

Fans believe Casemiro tried to stop Garnacho from hitting Ronaldo’s iconic celebration, with some suggesting the midfielder didn’t want to see Garnacho get in trouble for mimicking compatriot Lionel Messi’s biggest rival.

“Casemiro was stopping Garnacho from doing Ronaldo celebrations coz they’ll kick him out of the Argentina squad,” wrote @NoodleHairCR7 on X.

@kobbieEraa added: “Unc knew the backlash he was going to receive from Pessi fans.”

Meanwhile, @StraightAtHim said: “Bruno and Casemiro really try and stop him after every goal. But Garnacho is absolutely shameless. I love him.”

“Man, look at the way Casemiro was dragging him so he doesn’t do Ronaldo’s celebration, wrote @paapywes, while @Johnny19United added: “Look at the way Casemiro tells him not to and Garnacho shrugs him off.. love it he does what he wants!”

That’s back-to-back wins for Ten Hag’s side, and they’ll look to keep things going at Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday.

United will then start preparing for their Europa League opener against Twente, before closing out the month with a blockbuster league clash against Tottenham.

  • Rio Ferdinand’s reveals conversation with Ronaldo before he returned to Man Utd

Rio Ferdinand’s reveals conversation with Ronaldo before he returned to Man Utd

Rio Ferdinand has shared a humorous anecdote about his former wife, a former TOWIE star, who was extremely upset with him after he took a late-night call from Cristiano Ronaldo.

The call came in at 1 a.m. in connection with Manchester United.

In the summer of 2021, Ronaldo, who was contemplating his future at Juventus, was reportedly considering a return to Manchester.

Although there was speculation about him joining Manchester City, a move that would have seen him reunite with Pep Guardiola, the deal did not materialise.

Manchester United, where Ronaldo initially made his name, refused to let their rival club sign him.

Instead, Ronaldo rejoined Manchester United, only to leave less than 18 months later following a disagreement with Dutch coach Erik ten Hag.

Ronaldo was subsequently released as a free agent.

Former United teammate Ferdinand has been discussing a sensational retracing of steps to English football with Ronaldo, saying on the Portuguese’s YouTube channel: “We spoke on the phone when you were going to go and sign at Manchester United, when you were negotiating to come back, and my wife wanted to kill me!

It was 1 o’clock in the morning, and you rang me: ‘Rio, what’s going on? Can we sort this out?’ You ended up signing for United.

Initially, that must have been a beautiful thing for you because I remember on the phone you sounded so happy. Then obviously, it went a bit sour.”

Ronaldo responded by saying: “I don’t need to prove if I’m right or wrong; it is not my issue any more. I say what I have to say.

For me it is done. But to be honest, what I wish for Manchester is what I wish for me—the best—that they can make the best team they can. I love that club. I’m not that kind of guy that forgot the past.”

Ronaldo won three Premier League titles, the Champions League, and the first of his Golden Balls during a memorable first stint with United.

His reputation in the eyes of United supporters was tarnished somewhat by his acrimonious departure the second time around, but he will forever be remembered as another iconic No.7 at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’.

  • Alan Shearer’s analysis, criticism of Rashford a ‘stupid’ one – Erik ten Hag

Alan Shearer’s analysis, criticism of Rashford a ‘stupid’ one – Erik ten Hag

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has labelled the criticism of Marcus Rashford’s early-season form as “stupid.”

Rashford faced backlash after missing several key opportunities during the Community Shield loss to Manchester City, and his early substitution in the 2-1 defeat to Brighton on Saturday added to the scrutiny.

Former England striker Alan Shearer was among those who criticised the 26-year-old’s performance at the Amex Stadium.

However, speaking on Friday, Ten Hag made it clear that he remains satisfied with Rashford’s contributions and does not share the concerns voiced by others.

“Everyone gets criticism; it doesn’t matter what we are doing, if we are winning or losing,” Ten Hag told a news conference.

“If I take a player off, the conclusion is I was not happy with him. I was very happy with Rashy in preseason, against Fulham and also against Brighton.

“It is not why I took him off because his performances or level were not right. No.

“We had to rotate, and we have good players on the bench as well; you bring new energy. There will be rotation, and if then there is the conclusion the player is not performing, [it] can be sometimes but definitely it wasn’t in this case. Stupid analysis in this case from the pundit.”

Manchester United has confirmed that Manuel Ugarte will not be available for the match against Liverpool at Old Trafford this Sunday. Although Ugarte is set to join the team, he has not been registered in time and will have to wait for his debut.

Additionally, manager Erik ten Hag will be missing Scott McTominay, who is close to finalizing a move to Napoli. Ten Hag has expressed his dissatisfaction with the decision to let McTominay leave, indicating that he is not fully pleased with the situation.

“It is a little bit mixed,” he said. “I am very happy for him, but it is mixed because I wouldn’t prefer to lose him.

“He is Man United in everything. He was so important for Man United. He was here for over 22 years, but unfortunately it is the rules.

“Homegrown players bring more value, and that is not the right thing to do, but for everyone, for all parts, it is a good deal. Scott is happy with it, and Napoli and us.”

Chelsea poised to compete with Juve for the signing of Jadon Sancho – Source

Chelsea are reportedly considering a move for Jadon Sancho, potentially competing with Juventus for the Manchester United forward’s signature, sources have revealed.

With the transfer deadline looming on Friday, United are open to letting Sancho depart, but negotiations with Juventus have yet to result in an agreement.

Chelsea have identified Sancho as one of several possible targets as they look to bolster their squad in the final days of the transfer window.

The 24-year-old winger has not featured for United this season, having been left out of the squad for matches against Fulham and Brighton.

After spending the latter part of the previous season on loan at Borussia Dortmund, Sancho returned to Old Trafford this summer and made a brief appearance as a substitute in the Community Shield loss to Manchester City.

However, he has not played a competitive match for United since his public fallout with manager Erik ten Hag in August 2023.

United are seeking a permanent transfer for Sancho, valuing him at around £40 million ($52.8m), but his substantial weekly wages of over £300k have been a significant obstacle in negotiations.

Sancho has two years remaining on his contract, which he signed upon his £73 million arrival from Dortmund in 2021.

While United prefer a permanent deal, they are not ruling out a loan arrangement, provided it includes an option or obligation to buy at the end of the season.

In other transfer news, United midfielder Scott McTominay is in discussions with Napoli after the clubs agreed on a £25 million fee.

Should McTominay opt to join the Serie A side, it could give United more financial flexibility in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

PSG are seeking around £50 million for the Uruguayan, who they signed from Sporting last summer.

  • Brazil police clears Man Utd’s Antony of domestic violence charges

Brazil police clears Man Utd’s Antony of domestic violence charges

A Brazilian police inquiry into domestic abuse allegations involving Manchester United forward Antony has concluded without resulting in any formal charges.

Despite this, prosecutors in Brazil may still review the claims further.

Antony, who is 24 years old and has consistently denied any wrongdoing, is also under investigation by Greater Manchester Police in the UK.

The allegations surfaced in September of the previous year and involve accusations made by three women.

At this time, Antony has not been detained or charged by authorities in either Brazil or the UK. He continues to refute all allegations made against him.

A statement from the player’s lawyers said: “The defence of player Antony Matheus dos Santos, in light of the news published by the press this Tuesday (20 August 2024), hereby confirms that the police investigation opened at the fifth Women’s Defense Precinct of Sao Paulo, of the Civil Police, was closed without any police indictment.

“The defence has always believed that the investigations, that run under confidentiality, would prove Antony’s innocence.”

According to BBC News Brasil, although the police investigation into Manchester United winger Antony has ended without charges, the case remains active as it is still under review by the prosecutor’s office.

This means prosecutors could choose to launch a separate investigation if they see fit.

Antony became Manchester United’s second-most expensive acquisition in September 2022, transferring from Ajax for £82 million.

The allegations against him first emerged during the September 2023 international break when Brazilian media outlet UOL reported claims made by his ex-girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin, which Antony has denied.

Following this, two more women, Rayssa de Freitas and Ingrid Lana, came forward with separate allegations of assault dating back to 2022, which Antony has also refuted.

One of these alleged incidents reportedly took place at a hotel in Manchester, prompting Greater Manchester Police to become involved.

In response to the serious nature of the allegations, Manchester United granted Antony a leave of absence with full pay on 10 September to address the situation.

He returned to training on 29 September after voluntarily cooperating with Greater Manchester Police and resumed playing in early October.

Despite his return to the pitch, Antony’s club manager, Erik ten Hag, acknowledged in January that the ongoing matter had impacted the player’s performance.

Man Utd vows to consult fans before selling stadium naming rights

Manchester United have assured fans that they will be consulted before any decision is made on selling the naming rights to Old Trafford.

However, the club has acknowledged that renaming the stadium is a possibility being considered.

United are currently exploring options to either redevelop Old Trafford or construct a new stadium at the same location, with estimated costs reaching up to £2 billion ($2.58bn). According to United’s COO Collette Roache, “all possible funding options” will be evaluated.

This could include the sale of naming rights for a new stadium, similar to Barcelona’s agreement to rename their stadium Spotify Camp Nou. Roache emphasized at a recent fans’ forum that supporters will have a say before any final decision is made.

“You may have seen the media speculation around naming rights and it was just that; speculation,” said Roache. “We must look at all possible funding options, but it’s still early stages with no decisions made.

What we can promise is that fans, through this forum and other channels, will be kept informed and consulted every step of the way.”

Since Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s arrival as co-owner, work has already started on a £50m revamp of United’s Carrington training ground.

Improvements are also being made to Old Trafford, including upgrading the players’ tunnel.

“The players’ tunnel has not seen any major changes since it was opened in 1993 following the redevelopment of the Stretford End,” said Roache. “But when the players walk out against Fulham next month, they will find a much smarter, more modern tunnel interior.”

Manchester United have sought to address fan concerns about the possibility of competitive matches being played overseas.

Despite rumors suggesting that Premier League games might be relocated to international venues, COO Collette Roache has reassured supporters that the club is “not pursuing” such plans.

  • PSG rekindle transfer interest in Man Utd’s Bruno Fernandes

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has reportedly expressed interest in Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes as they seek to compensate for the departure of Kylian Mbappe.

This summer, PSG lost Mbappe, who fulfilled his long-time ambition of joining Real Madrid as a free agent.

According to L’Equipe, Les Parisiens are now aiming to bolster their attacking options by bringing Fernandes to Parc des Princes.

Fernandes, who joined Manchester United from Sporting in the winter of 2020, has been a pivotal player for the Red Devils, delivering impressive performances despite the team’s struggles in recent years.

There have been rumors of Fernandes contemplating a move away from Manchester United, with links to clubs like Bayern Munich and Al-Nassr this summer.

In 2021, then-PSG manager Thomas Tuchel highly praised Fernandes, despite the midfielder having only been with the Red Devils for a little over a year. Tuchel even revealed that he had urged the club to attempt signing Fernandes before his move to Old Trafford.

He said: “With my first sporting director in Paris, Antero Henrique, a Portuguese sporting director, and he knew [Fernandes] very well.

“We fought hard to have a connection to him and to bring him to our team. I got made aware of him more in detail, so we watched more and more games about him and followed him and tried to be in touch with him to make it happen.

“Obviously, he decided [to sign for Man Utd] and I was never personally in touch with him, but we tried and he went another way. [It is] bad for us that we have to play against him.”

At the moment, it seems highly unlikely that a move away from Erik ten Hag’s side is possible for the Manchester United captain. However, considering the squad overhaul being conducted by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, the Portugal international could be allowed to leave if the club feels like it.

He is a good player – Ten Hag on Jadon Sancho as he speaks on his future

Jadon Sancho is poised to begin anew at Manchester United, following a reconciliation with manager Erik ten Hag. The 24-year-old winger’s tenure at United had been uncertain after a turbulent period that saw him loaned back to Borussia Dortmund last season.

Sancho had fallen out publicly with Ten Hag in September, with the manager criticizing his training performances, a claim Sancho disputed vehemently on social media.

His refusal to apologize for his comments led to him being isolated from the first-team squad and training alone before returning to Dortmund in January.

However, recent candid discussions at United’s Carrington training ground have paved the way for Sancho to rejoin first-team training.

These talks appear to have resolved the tensions between Sancho and Ten Hag, allowing them to move forward positively as they prepare for the upcoming season.

While Ten Hag remained cautious about discussing Sancho’s long-term prospects at the club, he acknowledged that their relationship has been repaired.

“As we said, we draw the line. Manchester United need good players and Jadon is a good player. We have drawn that line and we move on,” Ten Hag remarked, signalling a fresh chapter for the winger.

During his loan stint at Borussia Dortmund, Sancho rediscovered some of his top form, contributing three goals and as many assists in 21 appearances across all competitions, notably aiding their journey to the Champions League final.

Despite this, the Bundesliga club has not tabled a formal offer for the English forward and has reassigned Sancho’s No. 10 jersey to Julian Brandt, signaling they are not considering a permanent transfer.

While Sancho has also been linked with a move to Juventus, recent remarks from Ten Hag indicate he will have the opportunity to reaffirm his importance at United.

After missing their initial pre-season friendly against Rosenborg, the forward is expected to be ready for their upcoming match against Rangers on July 20.

Jonny Evans extends contract with Man Utd

Jonny Evans has secured a new one-year contract with Manchester United. The club announced that Evans, who emerged as an unexpectedly vital player last season, will remain at Old Trafford for another year.

The 36-year-old Northern Ireland international returned to United last summer as a temporary solution but went on to play 30 games across all competitions.

Despite the team’s injury troubles, Evans demonstrated exemplary professionalism throughout his first season back at the club, which he had originally left in 2015. His contributions helped United secure the FA Cup, completing his collection of every domestic trophy available with the club.

Evans told the club’s official website: “I am delighted to have extended my contract at Manchester United for another season.

“To play for this great club and feel the support from our incredible fans is always a privilege.
“Returning to the club last season was an honour, representing the team on the pitch alongside fantastic team-mates under an excellent manager.

“Winning the FA Cup together was an unforgettable experience; I know we can challenge for more trophies in the season ahead.”
United play their first pre-season friendly on July 15 against Norwegian club Rosenborg. They will also play Rangers, Arsenal, Real Betis and Liverpool before the Community Shield against Manchester City on August 10.

  • “He can’t have a place in this team” – Mayor of Marseille objects clubs signing of Greenwood

“He can’t have a place in this team” – Mayor of Marseille objects clubs signing of Greenwood

The mayor of Marseille has advised Olympique de Marseille against signing Mason Greenwood from Manchester United, citing the forward’s alleged past behavior as “unspeakable.”

Sources informed ESPN that the clubs have reached a permanent transfer agreement for the 22-year-old, who spent the previous season on loan at Getafe.

Greenwood has not played for Manchester United since his suspension in January 2022, following his arrest on suspicion of rape and assault.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the case involved “social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence.”

“Greenwood’s behaviour is unspeakable and unacceptable,” Marseille Mayor Benoît Payan told French radio station RMC on Tuesday. “Hitting his wife … I saw images that deeply shocked me. Massacring his wife in this way is unbecoming of a man, and he cannot have his place on this team.

“The values of OM and Marseille are anything but that in fact. It’s a shame. I will ask [Marseille president] Pablo Longoria not to recruit Greenwood. I don’t want my club to be covered with the shame of someone who hits his wife.

    Man Utd eyeing Toney, Calvert-Lewin

Man Utd are considering moves for Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin, reports The Athletic.

Discussions have taken place among United’s top brass as they look to strengthen Erik ten Hag’s squad. Both England internationals are viewed as viable targets due to their contract statuses.

Toney, 28, is in the final year of his contract. While Brentford are seeking £60 million, United aim to negotiate down to around £40 million.

Calvert-Lewin, 27, might depart Everton as the club navigates financial difficulties. United believe a £30 million bid could secure his transfer.

These potential signings are intended to bolster the squad and provide competition for Rasmus Højlund. United are also monitoring Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee but have yet to trigger his €40 million release clause.

Hunt for Southgate’s successor begins amid Man Utd links – Reports

FA has yet to identify Gareth Southgate’s successor, despite the possibility that he might leave his England role if they fail to win Euro 2024.

The England squad, along with Southgate, has arrived in Germany, ready to compete in Euro 2024. Ahead of the continental tournament, the Three Lions’ boss hinted that he might consider stepping down after eight years if they do not secure the European Championship.

Harry Kane and his teammates are regarded as one of the favourites to win the trophy this year.

Speaking to BILD, he said, “If we don’t win, I probably won’t be here anymore. So maybe this is the last chance. I think around half the national coaches leave after a tournament—that’s the nature of international football.

“I’ve been here for almost eight years now and we’ve come close. You can’t constantly put yourself in front of the public and say, ‘A little more, please,’ as at some point people lose faith.

If we want to be a great team and I want to be a top coach, you must deliver in big moments.”

According to The Telegraph, despite ongoing speculation about 53-year-old Gareth Southgate’s future, the FA has not yet started the search for his potential replacement.

They are keen for Southgate to remain as England’s head coach beyond his current contract, which ends in December 2024.

However, with Premier League giants Manchester United showing interest, Southgate has been non-committal about his future ahead of the Euros.

The report also mentions that the FA is considering potential successors such as Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, Graham Potter, and Eddie Howe if Southgate decides to step down this summer.

Meanwhile, the Three Lions are set to begin their Euro 2024 campaign against Serbia on Sunday.

  • Wayne Rooney thinks Sir Alex Ferguson still remains greater than Pep

Wayne Rooney thinks Sir Alex Ferguson still remains greater than Pep

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney believes that his former manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, maintains superiority over Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola in the realm of managerial greatness.

This season, Guardiola guided City to their fourth consecutive Premier League title, an accomplishment unmatched by Ferguson or any other team in English football history.

This extends Guardiola’s tally to six Premier League titles in his eight seasons with Manchester City.

Nevertheless, Guardiola’s achievement falls short of Ferguson’s record of 13 championships during his illustrious 26-year tenure at Manchester United.

“I think of course there are going to be arguments as to who is better, but I think people tend to just look at what Sir Alex did at Manchester United, and what he did at Aberdeen was incredible,” Rooney said in an interview with ESPN Brasil.

“And you’d ask the question: could Guardiola do that at a team like Aberdeen?

“There’s questions, there’s debate, and I think Guardiola for his era is of course the best and he’s changed the way football is played worldwide… but yeah for me, Sir Alex, what he achieved in the game is incredible.”

Before joining Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson achieved remarkable success with Aberdeen, winning three Scottish titles and disrupting the long-standing dominance of Celtic and Rangers.

Notably, he led Aberdeen to a memorable victory over Real Madrid in the 1983 European Cup Winners’ Cup final.

In contrast, Pep Guardiola has a 3-2 edge over Ferguson in Champions League titles, having won two with Barcelona and one last season as part of a treble with Manchester City.

Wayne Rooney, who played under Ferguson for nine years and became Manchester United’s all-time leading scorer, has expressed great respect for Guardiola. Earlier this year, Rooney even suggested he would be open to working as Guardiola’s assistant.

“If Pep Guardiola comes in and asks me to be his assistant, you’d walk there,” Rooney told the Stick to Football podcast.
“You see what [Mikel] Arteta is doing now [at Arsenal] and I strongly believe a lot of that is from learning what Guardiola was doing, and so it depends on what the situation is.

“For me, the best manager is Pep and you look at how he adapts — how they [City] are playing now is not the same as how they were playing four years ago.”

Since then, Rooney has returned to management, taking on the role of head coach for English Championship side Plymouth Argyle ahead of the upcoming season.

  • Man Utd’s Antony emotional after suffering quietly in ‘difficult’ season

Man Utd’s Antony emotional after suffering quietly in ‘difficult’ season

Antony opened up about his struggles during a challenging season at Manchester United, admitting to silently enduring difficulties.

The Brazilian, who made a high-profile £85 million move from Ajax nearly two years ago, was anticipated to inject creativity and flair into United’s attack under former manager Erik ten Hag.

While he made a promising start with a debut goal against Arsenal, Antony’s form soon faltered.

Despite sporadic moments of brilliance, he has failed to consistently deliver in the Premier League, grappling with the physical demands and pace of English football.

His decline prompted ten Hag to deploy him in an unfamiliar defensive role, filling in for injured defenders like Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

However, Antony’s struggles persisted, leading to him losing his place in the starting lineup to Amad Diallo towards the end of the season, signaling a decline in his influence within the squad.

In a heartfelt post on Instagram, Antony wrote: “2023/24 was a very difficult season, for many reasons. But I suffered quietly! I took this period to reflect and seek self-knowledge. Today, at the end of another season, I can say that after everything I’ve been through, I feel much stronger and ready for the challenges.

Football gave me everything I have, thanks to it, I was able to help my family, change my life and open up a range of opportunities.

After time, the experience will give me the tools to achieve my biggest goals, which are success and to build my story in a world as challenging as the one we live in! I thank God, my family, our fans, my work colleagues and the entire Manchester United staff!! 🙏🏼@manchesterunited”.

Antony’s performance in the 2023-24 season has been disappointing, with statistics reflecting his struggle to meet expectations.

In the Premier League, he managed only one goal and one assist in 29 matches, while in the FA Cup, he scored twice in four appearances.

These numbers underscore his difficulties in making a significant impact on the field. As he looks ahead to the future, both Antony and Manchester United will hope for a resurgence in form and confidence, aiming for a more successful season ahead.

  • This is why David Moyes sued Wayne Rooney after joining Manchester United

This is why David Moyes sued Wayne Rooney after joining Manchester United

Iconic figure of Manchester United, Wayne Rooney, shed light on the legal dispute initiated by David Moyes in 2008, years after Rooney’s transition from Everton to the Red Devils.

Moyes played a pivotal role in Rooney’s early career, providing him with his senior team debut at Everton in 2002. Rooney swiftly ascended to stardom, displaying his exceptional talent on the pitch.

However, tensions arose in 2004 when Rooney made a high-profile transfer to Manchester United for a then-record fee of £30 million, straining his relationship with his former manager.

The rift between Rooney and Moyes reached its peak in 2008 when Moyes took legal action against Rooney over allegations made in the player’s autobiography, “My Story So Far.”

In the memoir, Rooney accused Moyes of disclosing details of a private conversation regarding his departure plans from Everton.

Moyes vehemently disputed the allegation and filed a libel suit against Rooney. In response, Rooney and Harper Collins retracted the claims and publicly apologized to Moyes.

Additionally, the publisher agreed to pay substantial damages to Moyes, which he subsequently donated to the Everton Former Players Foundation.

In a candid interview with Gary Neville on “The Overlap” Rooney expressed his regret over the incident. “David Moyes was really good for me at Everton,” Rooney said.

“He sued me after I left the club—I hammered him when I left because of how I felt at the time. I regret that.

I spoke to him a few years after I left, I called him up and apologized because the older you get, you realize why he was doing things. It was new to him to have a player getting all those headlines, for him to figure out.

He was a young manager at the time, it was new to him. When I look back, he was good for me, he was constantly on me. He was trying to not let me think that I was better than I was.

I was a handful in my youth. In the indoor gym, I was launching rockets from one end to the other. Moysey walked in when I was just 16.”

Following the resolution of the legal dispute, Moyes expressed his relief and satisfaction. “Anyone who knows me well would, I hope, regard me as a man of honour and integrity,” Moyes stated.

“I was disappointed and wanted people to know that what had been written was completely untrue.

I felt that I had no choice but to take action for a full apology and damages. Having accepted these, I do not intend to make any financial gain from this and shall give that to the Everton Former Players Foundation”.

Rooney’s acknowledgment underscores how time can offer clarity regarding past choices and behaviors.

His introspections highlight the significance of mentorship and its influence on young athletes coping with the demands of celebrity and competition.

Notably, Rooney reunited with Moyes as his manager during the 2013-14 season at Manchester United. Presently, Rooney serves as the manager of Plymouth Argyle, while Moyes is unattached following his departure from West Ham.

Mason Greenwood puts up £2m mansion up for rent over imminent Man Utd exit – Reports

Mason Greenwood has suggested a possible departure from Manchester United by putting his £2 million mansion up for rent.

The England international, who has one cap, spent the 2023-24 season on loan with Getafe in Spain.

At 22, Greenwood has revitalized his career in La Liga following the dropping of charges against him in England, and he is now reportedly attracting interest from several European clubs.

According to The Sun, Premier League clubs are monitoring Greenwood’s situation, while Juventus, Napoli, Atletico Madrid, and Borussia Dortmund are also considering bids in the upcoming transfer window.

Greenwood appears to be preparing for a future away from Manchester, alongside his partner Harriet Robson and their baby daughter.

His fully-furnished home is listed for rent at £14,000 per month.

This season, Greenwood has scored 10 goals for Getafe, and a return to Old Trafford has always seemed unlikely.

Despite having numerous potential suitors this summer, Manchester United is reportedly seeking a transfer fee of approximately £50 million ($64 million).

  • CNN’s Madowo teases Man Utd’s Old Trafford with “nicer stadium in Africa” remarks after leaks

CNN’s Madowo teases Man Utd’s Old Trafford with “nicer stadium in Africa” remarks after leaks

CNN reporter Larry Madowo criticized Man Utd for the condition of Old Trafford Stadium.

Madowo, a passionate Arsenal fan, attended the Premier League match between Manchester United and Arsenal on May 12, 2024.

During the game, which Arsenal won 1-0 thanks to Leandro Trossard’s goal, heavy rain exposed significant leaks in the stadium’s roof.

Madowo captured a video of the incident, sparking widespread condemnation among football fans who deemed it unworthy of Manchester United’s stature.

The Kenyan broadcaster captioned the video, “If I hadn’t filmed the Old Trafford waterfall myself, I wouldn’t have believed it. I’ve seen nicer stadiums in Africa.”

Manchester United have been condemned for their poor maintenance of Old Trafford, with Arsenal legend, Martin Keown, describing the leakage as worse than the Manchester United defence.

Arsenal’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over Manchester United has kept the Premier League title race alive until the final day of the season.

While Manchester City remains in pole position to clinch the title with wins in their last two matches, Mikel Arteta’s side has kept the pressure on them throughout the campaign.

The match saw Rasmus Hojlund squander a golden opportunity to put United ahead, but Arsenal capitalised on their chances.

Kai Havertz seized on a defensive lapse from Casemiro to set up Leandro Trossard for the decisive goal.

Although Arsenal looked comfortable in the first half, they faced increased pressure from United after the break. However, substitute Gabriel Martinelli threatened on the counter-attack, and Arsenal’s defence held firm despite United’s late onslaught.

The result means that Arsenal must secure a win against Everton on the final day and hope for a slip-up from Manchester City against either Tottenham or West Ham to have a chance at claiming the title.

  • Rio Ferdinand fumes over delayed resolution on Man City’s 115 charges

Rio Ferdinand fumes over delayed resolution on Man City’s 115 charges

Rio Ferdinand has voiced his anticipation for the outcome of Manchester City’s financial fair play case, suggesting that Premier League teams could react strongly depending on the verdict.

The 2023 treble winners face over 100 charges related to financial fair play regulations spanning nearly a decade.

Despite the charges being leveled in February 2023, a resolution may not be reached until the following year, leaving rival clubs, including Everton and Nottingham Forest, frustrated by the uncertainty.

Ferdinand speculated that if City were to evade significant penalties, the fallout could be substantial, implying that the league’s landscape may be dramatically altered.

Speaking on his FIVE podcast, an impatient Ferdinand asked: “When is this going to get sorted out? Because everybody else’s cases seem to be getting sorted out mighty, mighty quick. Everton have had two dockings this season already. Nottingham Forest, all these teams are getting docked points. Manchester City’s are just… [pretends to thumb through pages].

“If I was those clubs, I’d be like, ‘let’s see what happens with City first’. But if they get nothing or a little slap on the list, I can see them going nuts. When I went to a court case about racism a few months ago, he had one charge. It took two-and-a-half years! They’ve got 115; it’s nuts!”

The severity of the charges has raised speculation regarding the potential magnitude of the sanctions awaiting City. Suggestions range from hefty points deductions to the stripping of trophies, with relegation even mooted as a possible outcome.

Premier League CEO Richard Masters revealed that the date is already set for City’s trials during the European League general assembly, but refrained from announcing any further specifics.

“Obviously we can’t comment on the case; the date has been set and the case will resolve itself at some point in the near future, and I cannot make any further comment on it,” he said.

City are on the verge of winning the Premier League title again and will return to action on Saturday against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Those managing Ghana’s economy are like those of Manchester United – IEA director jabs

The Director of Research at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), John Kwakye, has drawn a noteworthy analogy between Ghana’s economic management and Manchester United’s struggling performance.

He expressed his discontent, stating that both entities appeared inept in tackling their respective challenges.

Mr Kwakye’s remarks surfaced on X, reads “It seems to me that the managers of Ghana’s economy are like the managers of Manchester United. Both seem clueless in addressing the problems confronting them, although the solutions are far from rocket science.”

His observation coincided with a period of significant economic turbulence in Ghana. Challenges included the departure of multinational firms due to high taxes, power shortages, currency depreciation, fuel price hikes, and soaring living expenses.

To mitigate these economic woes, the government sought a $3 billion bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on July 1, 2022.

Subsequently, IMF representatives engaged with Ghanaian authorities from July 6 to July 13, 2022, culminating in a staff-level agreement by December 2022.

On May 17, 2023, the IMF’s executive board greenlit Ghana’s $3 billion loan facility. The first installment of $600 million was disbursed to the Bank of Ghana (BoG) on May 19, 2023.

The IMF program aims to restore macroeconomic stability and ensure debt sustainability, among other objectives, as outlined by the government.

Fernandes happy to be here – Ten Hag on midfielder’s alleged exit from club

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag (54) has reassured fans by stating that the midfielder (29) is content at the Premier League club and will stay for the upcoming season amid speculation surrounding Bruno Fernandes’ future.

Fernandes recently mentioned in an interview with DAZN that he would assess his future at United after this year’s European Championship, emphasising that his decision to remain in Manchester would depend on a mutual agreement between him and the club.

Asked about Fernandes’ comments, Ten Hag told reporters: “That was taken out of context. I know he is Manchester United and I think he is very happy to be here.”

The Dutch manager said he “definitely” expects Fernandes to see out his contract, which runs until 2026, and highlighted the importance of the Portuguese international as a role model for other players in the team.

“Taking responsibility is one of the biggest assets top footballers have nowadays to show and to deliver,” Ten Hag added.

“Bruno is a very good example for many other players. He is a real fighter. Last year when we played Brighton in the (FA Cup) semi-final, he played with an ankle that was so thick. It was unbelievable.

“He couldn’t run but he was still on the pitch. He is always available, always delivers and always gives energy to the team. Such assets are necessary to be successful.”

United, who are eighth in the standings, travel to face 14th-placed Crystal Palace in a league clash later on Monday.

  • ‘He was provoked!’ – Ten Hag defends Antony’s taunting beaten Coventry players

‘He was provoked!’ – Ten Hag defends Antony’s taunting beaten Coventry players

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag defended Antony’s celebratory actions against Coventry, stating that the player was provoked.

Antony faced criticism for his exuberant celebration, including cupping his ears towards Coventry’s players and fans, after United’s FA Cup semi-final win.

This behaviour came in contrast to Harry Maguire’s consoling gestures towards the Coventry players, who had staged an impressive comeback from 3-0 down.

“Did you see the reaction of Harry Maguire? He [Antony] was provoked, that’s why this was a reaction of that, you haven’t seen the provocation, only the reaction,” Ten Hag told a press conference. “But he should not do it.

I have seen Harry Maguire straight after and other; we should acknowledge the performance of Coventry coming to that final and the comeback. We are 70 mins totally dominating the game by far and 3-0 must have been the game is closed but the return from their side was very good.”

Erik ten Hag expressed his discontent with the penalty decision given to Coventry in added time due to a handball by Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

However, he clarified that he would not resort to the approach taken by Nottingham Forest, who questioned the referees’ integrity following their Premier League loss to Everton.

He added: “You can’t do that. You can agree, or you can disagree. The handball for Wan-Bissaka is totally wrong, a mistake but you can’t question it. So it’s not good for the game and the refereeing; we should respect them and there is no respect.”

Antony, United’s second most expensive signing at £85 million ($105m) in 2022, has only managed two goals and two assists across all competitions this season.

As they prepare to face Premier League strugglers Sheffield United on Wednesday, United are seeking their first win in regulation time since defeating Everton on March 9.

With slim chances of Champions League qualification, the Red Devils are now prioritising ending a disappointing season positively and securing a spot in next season’s Europa League.

Ten Hag added: “We have to win every game. That’s what United stands for, that is our approach, go from game to game but we have to qualify for Europe and we have two opportunities in the league and the FA Cup final.”

  • Erik ten Hag gives update on Jonny Evans, Raphael Varane injury

Erik ten Hag gives update on Jonny Evans, Raphael Varane injury

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has delivered a concerning update on the fitness of Jonny Evans and Raphael Varane while also praising the performance of Willy Kambwala.

Despite both Evans and Varane returning to fitness last week and being cleared to play in the midweek clash against Chelsea, they had to be substituted off during the wild 4-3 loss at Stamford Bridge due to their respective injuries flaring up.

This unfortunate turn of events added them to the list of absentees, which already included Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, Tyrell Malacia, and Luke Shaw, for the subsequent clash against Liverpool.

However, 19-year-old Kambwala stepped up and delivered a commendable performance as Manchester United secured a 2-2 draw against the league title challengers.

Speaking to the media, Ten Hag said [via The Athletic]: “I don’t think, at this short notice, they will return.”

On bringing Kambwala into the side: “The decision to bring Willy in is because he has been training with us for a long time and, in his first game against West Ham United, he also did very well, his progress is amazing.

“We were convinced he could do the job and he has done brilliantly. I am very pleased, very happy and it is another signal and message of the future of Manchester United.

“This team, the squad has high potential and if we get more players available, especially in the backline, where we have 27 different organisations, across the season, then the future will be very good.”

Manchester United has encountered an unusually high number of injuries this season, particularly in their defensive lineup.

While the exact cause remains uncertain, there have been reports suggesting that some players attribute these injuries to Erik Ten Hag’s demanding training regime.

Additionally, the absence of midfielder Scott McTominay further compounds their injury woes, marking the 56th separate case of injury or illness within the squad, according to Samuel Luckhurst.

With several key defensive players unlikely to return in time, Ten Hag may once again turn to Willy Kambwala to bolster the defense when they face Bournemouth on Saturday, April 13th.

“Happy Days” – Ronaldo allegedly takes a swipe at Man Utd after loss to Chelsea

Following Manchester United’s defeat to Chelsea on Thursday, April 4, 2024, legendary player Cristiano Ronaldo posted a cryptic message shortly after the match.

The post, shared on X (formerly Twitter), featured a picture of Ronaldo laughing at his phone with the caption ‘Happy days’.

The timing of Ronaldo’s post, coming right after Chelsea’s 4-3 victory over Manchester United in the Premier League, sparked fury among United fans, who perceived it as a veiled dig at the club.

Ronaldo’s second stint at Manchester United concluded on a sour note after a fallout with manager Erik Ten Haag.

The Portuguese star reached an agreement with the club to terminate his contract by mutual consent in November 2022.

This decision followed Ronaldo’s public criticism of the club’s owner, manager Ten Hag, and his teammates, which aired in a viral interview with Piers Morgan.

“Don’t interrupt this process” – Ten Hag tells Ratcliffe amid new owner’s overhaul

Erik ten Hag has cautioned new Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe against disrupting the progress achieved under the Dutchman’s leadership.

With Ratcliffe and his INEOS team implementing various changes at Old Trafford, such as appointing Omar Berrarda as CEO and eyeing Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox for key recruitment positions, there’s a concern about potential interference with the club’s trajectory.

Despite United’s challenging season prompting speculation about Ten Hag’s future as manager, the 54-year-old, under contract until 2025, has expressed his desire to continue leading the team into the next season.

“I think you need to follow the process,” Ten Hag told a news conference on Wednesday. “We have good young players coming through. They are developing very well in their progress. We are in a good direction, and we need to take the next steps. Don’t interrupt this process.”

United are gearing up to face Chelsea on Thursday, aiming to recover from their disappointing display in the 1-1 draw against Brentford last Saturday.

The outcome at the Gtech Community Stadium dealt another blow to their already slim chances of securing Champions League qualification.

Ten Hag has acknowledged the challenge of catching up to teams like Aston Villa and Tottenham.

“I have high standards and I would be disappointed if we didn’t qualify,” said Ten Hag.”I know it will be very difficult because we are not in a good position. But we want to win every game, that is the standard we have here among each other. We will keep going and keep believing in those standards.

“That will be the approach in every game. We will keep fighting until the end. I know we are not in a good position. We have to catch up.”

United have nine league games remaining to close the gap on Villa and Spurs, but Ten Hag’s efforts have been hindered by persistent injury issues.

  • Man Utd’s Raphael Varane ‘cry’ over concussions from heading football; advises son against it

Manchester United defender, Raphael Varane, has opened up about the issue of concussions in football, revealing his personal experiences and advising caution, especially to his son.

Varane, who has encountered concussions while playing for France and Real Madrid, expressed concern over the inadequate awareness and handling of head injuries in the sport.

Reflecting on incidents like the 2014 World Cup match against Nigeria, where he continued playing despite a concussion, Varane emphasised the need for better recognition and management of such injuries to prevent potential long-term consequences.

In an interview with L’Equipe, Varane said, “I finished the match but I’m in ‘autopilot’ mode. If someone had spoken to me at that time, I don’t even know if I would have been able to respond.”

However, he did not dare to miss the World Cup quarterfinal against Germany, which Les Bleus lost 1-0.
“I was not in my normal state and so I was taken care of,” he said. “I had lost weight because I was dehydrated, I was out of shape but played because it was a World Cup quarterfinal.”

Varane also recounted another unsettling experience during a La Liga game for Real Madrid against Getafe in 2020. Following a blow to the head, he endured severe fatigue, prompting his substitution.

Despite this, the effects lingered for days, leaving him drained. However, he had little time to recuperate, with a crucial Champions League fixture against Manchester City looming on the horizon.

He was not 100 percent in the warm-up and “felt like a spectator” during the match.

He was so exhausted that he “almost wanted to slap” himself in a desperate attempt to get back to his optimum level. It ended up being one of the worst displays of the French defender’s Real Madrid career, as his individual errors led to a 2-1 loss for Los Blancos.

Varane also disclosed that he became aware of micro-concussions – incremental head impacts leading to concussions – only recently and even had to sit out a game for United earlier this season due to “eye fatigue.”

“The first time I heard about [micro-concussions] was this season when specialists came in to talk to us about it… Often, as players, we don’t understand and we don’t even think about doing a test,” he said.

“Earlier this season, I headed the ball repeatedly during a match for Manchester United and felt abnormally tired in the following days, as well as having some eye fatigue. I reported it to the staff, who strongly recommended that I don’t play, and I took a test, which meant that I missed the next match.”

Varane says medical experts have suggested United players refrain from heading more than 10 times in training sessions. Although this cannot be maintained in a live match, the defender does not want his seven-year-old son to go through the same ordeal, and has hence advised him not to head the ball at all.

“My seven-year-old son plays football, and I advise him not to header the ball,” he said. “Even if it does not cause immediate trauma, we know that in the long term, repeated shocks are likely to have harmful effects. I don’t know if I will live to be 100, but I know that I have damaged my body. As footballers playing at the highest level, we are used to pain, we are a bit like soldiers, tough guys, symbols of physical strength, but these symptoms are almost invisible.

“If your leg hurts and you limp, everyone sees it. But with head injuries, it immediately feels weak to say that you are tired, that you have migraines or eye fatigue… So at first, we tell ourselves that it will pass.”

As United prepare for their upcoming match against Chelsea, Varane’s revelations serve as a reminder of the importance of prioritising player welfare and increasing awareness of concussion risks in football.

The FA protocol insists that no player should be allowed to continue if he is seemingly suffering from concussions in both matches and training sessions.

  • Man Utd keen on initiating talks with Gary O’Neil over potential coaching role

Man Utd keen on initiating talks with Gary O’Neil over potential coaching role

Man Utd is reportedly interested in engaging Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Gary O’Neil for a potential role in a revamped coaching setup at Old Trafford, sources disclosed to ESPN’s Mark Ogden.

Following the acquisition of a 27% stake in the club by Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos group in February, which put Ineos director of sport Sir Dave Brailsford at the helm of football operations, the new leadership is said to be working on restructuring the coaching framework under a head coach.

While there’s no conclusive decision yet on Erik ten Hag’s position as manager, ESPN sources reveal that Manchester United has already evaluated Gareth Southgate, Roberto De Zerbi of Brighton, and Thomas Frank from Brentford as potential successors.

O’Neil, who assumed the managerial role at Molineux last August after Julen Lopetegui’s departure, has propelled Wolves into contention for European qualification this season, having previously ensured Bournemouth’s Premier League survival during his debut top-flight managerial stint last season.

Sources indicate that the 40-year-old has been notified of Manchester United’s interest, with senior club figures expressing a desire to hold discussions regarding his intentions.

While United’s interest in O’Neil has been confirmed by sources to ESPN, the specific role they may be considering offering remains undisclosed.

In addition to evaluating managerial candidates, sources suggest that Manchester United is also exploring options to strengthen its entire coaching staff.

Scott McTominay impresses Sir Jim Ratcliffe ; secures himself a new contract

Manchester United is preparing to offer midfielder Scott McTominay a new contract, with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe impressed by his recent performances.

According to the Daily Star, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS have been impressed by McTominay’s contributions and see him as a key player for the future.

They are willing to offer him a new deal and a pay rise.

This season, McTominay has scored seven league goals in 25 games.

While United has the option to extend McTominay’s current £60,000-per-week contract by another year, reports suggest that he could expect a significant salary increase and an extended stay at the club.

Despite interest from West Ham and Newcastle, United is eager to secure his services.

As a lifelong United fan, McTominay has made 243 appearances for the club, scoring 28 goals and providing eight assists. He has also earned 41 caps for Scotland.

McTominay could feature in their upcoming match against Brentford when the Premier League resumes on Saturday. Currently, United sits sixth in the table.

  • Ten Hag has still not gotten over loss to Arsenal in September last year

Ten Hag has still not gotten over loss to Arsenal in September last year

Erik ten Hag attributed Manchester United’s previous struggles to refereeing decisions, particularly referencing a match against Arsenal earlier in the season, when discussing whether the recent victory over Liverpool could mark a turning point.

The FA Cup quarter-final win against Liverpool, secured with a 4-3 scoreline, was hailed as a significant achievement for Ten Hag’s team, which had faced challenges in maintaining consistency prior to this match.

Ten Hag expressed optimism that this triumph over their rivals could signal a shift in momentum for Manchester United. He emphasised that until now, the team hadn’t found the opportune moment to mount a comeback, alluding to past officiating controversies.

Speaking to reporters, Ten Hag said, “Could be but we missed so many opportunities. For instance, at Arsenal, in the fourth game of the season, in the 87th minute, we should have had a penalty on Rasmus Hojlund. Then we scored with Garnacho, which was disallowed and then we conceded a goal that should always have been disallowed. Such moments help you. Every team needs such moments and we never had that moment and this could be that moment.”

In the recent match, Antony, who had been struggling with form, found the back of the net for only the second time this season, leveling the score for his team in the 87th minute.

Marcus Rashford, who had been facing criticism, also contributed with a goal, restoring his team’s lead early in extra time.

Amad Diallo later secured the victory with the winning goal, marking a memorable triumph for United. After the international break, the Premier League giants will resume action against Brentford in a league fixture on March 31st.

  • Not as a player, nor will he as a coach – Reports on Zinedine Zidane’s interest in alleged Man Utd offer

Not as a player, nor will he as a coach – Reports on Zinedine Zidane’s interest in alleged Man Utd offer

Reports suggest that Zinedine Zidane would decline an offer to manage Manchester United if it were presented to him.

The French football legend has been absent from the managerial scene since his second stint with Real Madrid concluded in 2021.

During his tenure with Los Blancos, Zidane achieved remarkable success, securing two La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies.

Despite ongoing speculation linking him with a return to coaching, particularly with Manchester United reportedly expressing interest, Zidane is purportedly uninterested in taking on the role at Old Trafford.

While Ineos chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe is said to envision Zidane as a potential replacement for Erik ten Hag, journalist Julien Laurens remains convinced that the 51-year-old icon would not entertain the idea of a move to Manchester United.

He told RMC Sport: “I’ve always been told that the language barrier in terms of his English, which he doesn’t speak and doesn’t necessarily want to learn, has always been an obstacle to him arriving in the Premier League.

“I don’t think he likes life in England either.

“He didn’t want to come as a player, nor does he want to come as a manager.”

Reports indicate that Zinedine Zidane would only be tempted back into management by positions at Bayern Munich, his former club Juventus, or the French national team.

Meanwhile, the conclusion of the season could determine the fate of Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

Despite recent challenges, including a 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup, United remains in contention for a Champions League spot.

Currently positioned sixth in the table, their upcoming match against Manchester City holds significant importance.

  • Ratcliffe set to kickstart Manchester United’s reconstruction after investment finalisation

Ratcliffe set to kickstart Manchester United’s reconstruction after investment finalisation

On Tuesday, Manchester United announced that Sir Jim Ratcliffe had officially completed the acquisition of a minority stake in the club.

The 71-year-old British billionaire has purchased 25% of the Premier League club in a deal valued at £1.03 billion ($1.3 billion).

Ratcliffe’s initial investment of £158.47 million ($200 million) will be exchanged for shares, bringing his total ownership to 27.7%. Additionally, he plans to invest an additional £79.23 million ($100 million) by December 31, further increasing his stake to 28.9%.

“To become co-owner of Manchester United is a great honour and comes with great responsibility,” Ratcliffe said in a news release. “This marks the completion of the transaction, but just the beginning of our journey to take Manchester United back to the top of English, European and world football, with world-class facilities for our fans.

“Work to achieve those objectives will accelerate from today.”

Ratcliffe’s minority stake, valued at approximately £1.03 billion, has received approval from the Premier League and the Football Association, following its announcement on Christmas Eve.

With the final details now resolved, Ratcliffe and his team, led by INEOS director of sport Sir Dave Brailsford, are poised to commence their official duties at Old Trafford.

Although the Glazer family will retain majority ownership of the club, Ratcliffe and Brailsford will assume responsibility for football operations as part of the agreement.

“I would like to welcome Sir Jim as co-owner and look forward to working closely with him and INEOS Sport to deliver a bright future for Manchester United,” Joel Glazer, Manchester United executive co-chairman, said.

Omar Berrada has been lured away from rival Manchester City to serve as CEO of Manchester United starting in the summer. Additionally, the club has initiated formal discussions with Newcastle regarding the potential appointment of Dan Ashworth as their new sporting director.

According to sources from ESPN, Manchester United is also considering adding Jason Wilcox from Southampton to their recruitment department. Wilcox, who previously worked alongside Berrada at Manchester City, is being eyed for a role in the department’s overhaul.

Ratcliffe’s deal brings to an end an ownership saga at United that began in November 2022 when the Glazer family announced they were considering “strategic alternatives.”

Ratcliffe, owner and CEO of chemical company INEOS, and Qatari businessman Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani both submitted bids for majority ownership of the club before the Glazers settled on accepting Ratcliffe’s minority offer.

  • England expedites move to sign Man Utd’s Kobbie Mainoo amid Ghana’s interest

England expedites move to sign Man Utd’s Kobbie Mainoo amid Ghana’s interest

As Ghana’s interest in young Manchester United player Kobbie Mainoo grows, Gareth Southgate is thinking of pushing the teenager through the England ranks more quickly, sources have informed ESPN.

Under Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, the 18-year-old has shown enormous promise as a midfielder. On Sunday, he started his tenth straight game in all competitions as United defeated Aston Villa 2-1 at Villa Park.

Mainoo is qualified to change his allegiance to Ghana, the country of his parents’ birth, despite having played for England at the under-17, under-18, and under-19 levels.

The young player still spends some of his free time in Ghana, where the football association of that nation stated earlier this month that they were eager to persuade Mainoo to play for them internationally.

ESPN has learned from sources that Southgate is eager to see Mainoo advance with England and feels he has a lot of promise.

If Mainoo continues his incredible form for United, Southgate may put him in his senior squad, which will be announced on March 14. However, it is more likely than not that he will bypass the U20s and instead join England’s U21 squad.

One of the main topics of discussion between Southgate and U21s manager Lee Carsley in the coming weeks will be Mainoo’s involvement.

Mainoo will only lose his eligibility for Ghana when he participates in a competitive senior international match, and this year’s schedule has made it more difficult.

However, sources indicate that England is certain that Mainoo wants to play for them and that they want to incorporate him into the system.

Prior to the European Championship in the summer, England will play four friendly matches, starting next month with home games against Belgium and Brazil at Wembley.

One option would be for Southgate to choose Mainoo for Euro 2024, but considering that he has only made 17 first-team appearances, that would be a big decision.

Additionally, Southgate may only designate a 23-man squad, down from the 26-man groups used at the previous World Cup and Euros, which were initially increased because to COVID-19 concerns.

This implies that Mainoo may not be allowed to play competitively until the autumn and that there will be less opportunity for experimentation.

Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham, Jordan Henderson, Kalvin Phillips, and Conor Gallagher are among the midfield players whom Southgate currently prefers.Trent Alexander-Arnold was included in England’s previous squad for their matches against Malta and North Macedonia as a midfield player.

According to an ESPN source, Southgate is also thinking about bringing up goalie Jack Butland, who revived his career at Rangers after leaving Crystal Palace on a free transfer last summer.

  • Ivan Toney’s price reportedly a scare for Manchester United

Ivan Toney’s price reportedly a scare for Manchester United

Manchester United is aware that Chelsea and Arsenal are leading the race to secure the signature of Brentford striker Ivan Toney, according to The Daily Star.

In response, the Red Devils are hesitant to engage in a bidding war for the 27-year-old forward.

Manager Erik ten Hag is eager to bolster his attacking options at Old Trafford ahead of the 2024–25 season and has identified Toney as a potential target.

The striker has expressed his desire to depart Brentford, a sentiment echoed by Bees manager Thomas Frank, who believes Toney is likely to move on in the summer transfer window.

In addition to Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur are also monitoring Toney’s situation closely.

However, Brentford is reportedly demanding a hefty £100 million transfer fee for Toney, a figure that new minority United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe considers excessive.

Ratcliffe believes that a more reasonable valuation would be closer to £70 million and is hesitant to engage in a bidding war with Chelsea and Arsenal.

Since returning from an eight-month gambling suspension, Toney has featured in three Premier League matches, netting goals against Nottingham Forest and Tottenham in his first two appearances.

  • We “don’t intend to do so” – Benfica on João Neves’ move to Man Utd

We “don’t intend to do so” – Benfica on João Neves’ move to Man Utd

Benfica has refuted claims of ongoing negotiations with Manchester United regarding a possible transfer of João Neves.

Despite speculation that United is keen on acquiring the holding midfielder, Benfica has asserted that they have no plans to sell Neves to United or any other club during this transfer window.

“Benfica denies the existence of any right of preference over its player, Joao Neves,” the club statement said. “Under no circumstances did Benfica enter into talks with Manchester United or any other club about this player from the squad, nor does it intend to do so, so any information that points in another direction is false.”

Several elite European clubs, including Juventus and Bayern Munich, have been rumored to express interest in Neves.

The 19-year-old Neves, who earned promotion to Benfica’s first team in January 2023, has become a regular starter this season. Last summer, the Portugal international signed a contract extension with Benfica, tying him to the club until June 2028, and his release clause was doubled from €60 million ($65.2 million) to €120 million.

In other transfer news, Benfica confirmed the loan signing of Álvaro Fernández from Manchester United until the season’s end.

Sources indicate that Benfica will be obligated to purchase the Spanish full-back in the summer for €6 million, with an additional €3 million if Fernandez participates in 50% of the club’s matches.

United has included buy-back and sell-on clauses in the deal. Fernandez, 20, spent the first half of the season on loan at Granada in La Liga, making 13 appearances.

Although a Spain under-21 player, he has yet to feature in a competitive first-team match for Manchester United, despite starting in four preseason games.

  • Barça places €80m price on Araújo after Man United interest

Barça places €80m price on Araújo after Man United interest

Manchester United will have to pay €80 million to secure the services of Barcelona defender Ronald Araújo, according to reports from Sky Sport Deutschland’s Florian Plettenberg.

Araújo, who has made 20 appearances for Barcelona this season, has attracted interest from various clubs, including Bayern Munich.

Barcelona has communicated to both United and Bayern that they expect €80 million for the center-back in the current transfer window.

Despite the financial challenges at Barcelona, Araújo is reportedly reluctant to leave Camp Nou in January, adding complexity to any potential deal.

United, led by manager Erik ten Hag, is actively seeking defensive reinforcements due to uncertainties surrounding Raphaël Varane’s future and Lisandro Martínez’s injury concerns during the season’s first half.

  • Success on the pitch “will require time and patience” – Ratcliffe tells Man United fans

Success on the pitch “will require time and patience” – Ratcliffe tells Man United fans

INEOS chairman Jim Ratcliffe has urged Manchester United fans to be patient after agreeing to purchase a 25% stake in the club.

The £1.25 billion deal, announced on Christmas Eve, includes a commitment to invest over £236 million to refurbish the club’s infrastructure.

Additionally, INEOS will take over the management of United’s football operations. Ratcliffe has written to the Manchester United Supporters’ Trust, the Fans’ Forum, and the Fans’ Advisory Board, emphasizing that achieving success on the pitch will require time and patience.

“I wanted to write to you at this time given the critical role of the fans to the future of Manchester United as we recognise our responsibility as custodians of the club on your behalf,” Ratcliffe wrote.

“I believe we can bring sporting success on the pitch to complement the undoubted commercial success that the club has enjoyed.

“It will require time and patience alongside rigour and the highest level of professional management.

“You are ambitious for Manchester United and so are we. There are no guarantees in sport, and change can inevitably take time but we are in it for the long term and together we want to help take Manchester United back to where the club belongs, at the very top of English, European and world football.

“I take that responsibility very seriously.

“Please note that, as with any deal, it is subject to the usual regulatory sign-off process and therefore we do not expect to speak publicly about club matters until after the deal is completed.”

In November 2022, Manchester United’s owners, the Glazer family, announced their plan to conduct a strategic review of their options, including the potential sale of the club.

Both Jim Ratcliffe and Qatari businessman Sheikh Jassim were initially contenders for a complete buyout of the club until October. However, Sheikh Jassim withdrew his bid for full control on October 14, prompting Ratcliffe to shift his focus to acquiring a significant minority stake in Manchester United.

  • 25% stake in Manchester United acquired by Ratcliffe

25% stake in Manchester United acquired by Ratcliffe

British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS Group has completed the acquisition of a 25% stake in Manchester United.

In addition to the ownership stake, Ratcliffe and the INEOS Group will take on responsibility for United’s football operations, granting them authority over staff decisions and player signings.

The 71-year-old billionaire plans to invest an additional £237 million to refurbish the club’s infrastructure, addressing its existing financial challenges.

Ratcliffe said: “As a local boy and a lifelong supporter of the club, I am very pleased twe have been able to agree a deal with the Manchester United board that delegates us responsibility of the football operations of the club.

“Whilst the commercial success of the club has ensured there have always been available funds to win trophies at the highest level, this potential has not been fully unlocked in recent times.

“We are here for the long-term and recognise a lot of challenges and hard work lie ahead, which we will approach with rigour, professionalism and passion.

“Our shared ambition is clear… we all want to see Manchester United back where we belong at the very top of English, European and world football.”

British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe emerged as the preferred investor for Manchester United, securing a 25% stake in the club. The deal with Ratcliffe, who leads the INEOS Group, materialized after Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim withdrew from negotiations due to differences over a complete takeover from the Glazer family.

The American co-chairmen, Avram and Joel Glazer, expressed openness to a sale in November 2022, and Ratcliffe’s agreement to acquire a partial stake allows them to retain involvement in the club. The Glazers initially purchased Manchester United for £790 million in 2005.

The Englishman also owns two clubs in French outfit Nice and Swiss-based Lausanne-Sport and failed with a bid to buy Chelsea from Roman Abramovich last year.

United say this deal is “subject to customary regulatory approvals” but are “hopeful it will be completed as soon as possible”.

It is understood that Premier League approval for Ratcliffe’s investment could take between four and six weeks.

  • Senior Manchester United official travels to Saudi Arabia ahead of January clearance

Senior Manchester United official travels to Saudi Arabia ahead of January clearance

Manchester United’s football director, Paul Murtough, visited Saudi Arabia this month with the aim of negotiating the sale of four first-team players in the January transfer window.

Murtough was reportedly seeking interest in Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane, Anthony Martial, and Casemiro during his visit. While no deals were reportedly finalized, it is stated that relationships were established, and further talks are expected.

The primary focus is on offloading Jadon Sancho, who is currently not training with the first team and is out of contention to play after a reported clash with manager Erik ten Hag earlier in the season.

The other three players—Varane, Casemiro, and Martial—may not be forced out but are reportedly close to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules limit.

Varane has recently returned to the side but faces competition, Casemiro has been sidelined with injury, and Martial’s contract expires this summer.

Man Utd’s Marcus Rashford struck norovirus ahead of clash with Liverpool

Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford has been dealing with a bout of norovirus, characterised by vomiting and diarrhoea, leading up to the crucial match against rival Liverpool.

Rashford was absent from United’s recent fixture against Bayern Munich, where they faced an abrupt exit from the Champions League due to the illness.

Despite returning to training, his participation in the starting lineup remains uncertain as the club’s medical staff continues to monitor his health.

United, heading to Anfield for the first time since the previous season’s 7-0 defeat, aims to avoid a repeat of such humiliation. Rashford, who featured in the previous loss, is eager to make amends if his health allows.

The team enters the match as heavy underdogs, and their supporters hope to leave Anfield with at least their dignity intact this time.

With Rashford scoring just two goals in the current Premier League season, one of which was a penalty, compared to four at the same stage last season, the forward is keen on contributing to tomorrow’s game.

His goal is not only to jumpstart his personal form but also to revive United’s struggling campaign.
