22-year-old woman missing after confronting alleged abusers in Chorkor; Family seeks police help

A 22-year-old woman, Christolite Akweley Kuma Quaye, has been missing since August 20, 2024, after reportedly leaving her home in Chorkor, Accra, to confront individuals she claimed had harmed her.

According to her family, Christolite was last seen the morning she left to visit a man known as Rich, one of the two individuals she accused of causing her harm. The other person she mentioned was identified as Okwabi. Since that day, her whereabouts have remained unknown.

Her family has now turned to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, seeking help in finding her. Naomi Nelson, a resident of Chorkor and a relative of the missing woman, filed a petition to the CID, detailing the family’s efforts to locate her.

“I, Naomi Nelson, a resident of Chorkor, do write this humble petition to the Director General for assistance. I wish to petition your high office concerning a case of a missing person, Christolite Akweley Kuma Quaye, who is 22 years of age,” the petition reads.

Naomi continued, “On 20th August 2024, the said Christolite Akweley Kuma Quaye left home and has since not returned. Before she left home, she mentioned that one Rich and Okwabi had hurt her and said she was going to the said Rich’s house. We called both of them, and they claimed they did not know her whereabouts.”

The petition further stated, “I wish to state that we have tried every possible means to locate her, but all efforts have proven futile. I am therefore petitioning the Director General CID to assist in this regard by helping me reunite with Christolite Akweley Kuma Quaye.”

Thanks for your support and prayers. Pls don’t ask me where cos I did not ask the mother. Thanks. Cc Ruth Tutuani.”

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has reached out to the public to gather more information about a patient who, until recently, had been referred to as ‘unknown Monday’ at the 37 Military Hospital.

The individual has now been identified as Appiah.

This patient was urgently admitted to the trauma and surgical unit in November of the previous year by an unknown individual.

Since then, the 37 Military Hospital staff has been tirelessly providing care and support to him.

Despite their efforts, attempts to trace his family have proven unsuccessful, leaving the hospital with limited information about his background and medical history.

Speaking to the media, GAF urged anyone with relevant information about Appiah to come forward and assist in filling the gaps regarding his identity and contacts.

The hospital staff, through their unwavering dedication, has been able to bring him to a point where he is now ready for discharge.

“He was brought in in November last year by an unknown person through the Trauma and Surgical Emergency Unit and then he was subsequently admitted to the NeuroSurgical Ward. The person who brought him was initially cooperating but along the line stopped. So we have been able to take care of him till a point that he was worthy to go home.

“There wasn’t anybody coming so through our Command and the Department of Public Relation we were able to send a picture of him to the social media and then people started coming. Before now he was known as unknown Monday but when his friend showed up he was able to tell that he is called Appiah.

  • Police set records straight on case of missing Lands Commission woman

The Ghana Police Service has stated that it has no evidence to point to the fact that Dr. Wilberforce Aggrey, the husband of the missing Lands Commission woman, is linked to her disappearance.

There have been widespread rumours that it had been established that the husband of Rhodaline Amoah-Darko killed his wife but the police, in a statement, have set the records straight, indicating that there is no such truth.

“It must be placed on record, that as of today, Wednesday, October 27, 2021, the Police have no evidence linking Dr. Aggrey to the disappearance of Rhodaline.

“Investigations are still ongoing and at this point, we are unable to disclose any information to the public on the matter,” the statement, signed by Director of Public Affairs, Superintendent Alexander Kwaku Obeng, said in part.

The police also indicated that they had secured a court order to have Dr. Aggrey undergo psychiatric examination.

“As part of investigations into the disappearance of Rhodaline Amoah-Darko, a staff of the Lands Commission in the Ashanti Region, the Police on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, secured a court order to refer the husband of Rhodaline, Dr. Wilberforce Aggrey, for psychiatric examination due to some incoherent statements from him on the matter,” the statement said.

The police is therefore urging the general public to desist from “the practice since their actions impede Police investigations.”

The public has also been urged to respect the privacy of the families involved and allow the police to do their work.

  • Thousands missing in Africa due to conflict and migration

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) says more than 40,000 people across Africa are registered as missing as a result of conflict, migration and climate shocks.

It says almost half of them are children.

Conflicts in Ethiopia, Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Libya and Cameroon are having a big impact.

But the situation is most severe in north-east Nigeria and the coronavirus pandemic has made the job of finding missing relatives even harder.

In north-eastern Nigeria, the ICRC says more than 20,000 people are registered as missing.

Its teams are also searching for more than 5,000 people in South Sudan – they are trying to help mothers like Juma Kedai Korok whose son was abducted by an armed group four years ago. She hasn’t heard from him since.

The ICRC says there’s been an increase in the number of people whose relatives are missing in Libya – most of them young men who entered the country on the migration route to Europe.
