Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change rebrands as United Party

The Movement for Change, led by Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, has officially transitioned into the United Party (UP Plus) after receiving approval from the Electoral Commission (EC). Party Chairman Abubakar Saddique Boniface stated that the unveiling represents the emergence of a new breed of political movement.

“Today, we present to you the United Party or UP Plus. The UP Plus is a political organisation meant to bring real change to governance. We will make a difference because of our focus on universal values and respect for the leadership of competence. We are not just taking people to lead us, but people who are credible, competent, and have a vision,” he stated.

Speaking at the unveiling event, Party leader Alan Kyerematen noted that the rebrand seeks to promote greater accountability, intensify the fight against corruption, and create prosperity for Ghanaians.

“A new dawn that will bring about economic transformation, which will translate into massive job opportunities, usher in a golden age of business, and create prosperity for our country, Ghana.

“A new dawn that will mobilise the collective strengths and talents of all Ghanaians for national development, irrespective of age, ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation.

“A new dawn that will promote accountable and transparent governance and introduce a policy of zero tolerance for corruption. A new dawn that will at least protect the environment and promote sustainable development. Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, this is what underpins the establishment of the United Party,” he said.

Mr. Kyerematen, who was once a staunch member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), parted ways with the party on Monday, September 25, 2023, citing reasons such as electoral irregularities, unfair treatment, and bias during the superdelegates’ conference held on August 26, 2023.

The Movement for Change, now UP Plus, which Mr. Kyerematen described as youth-led, aims to address the country’s challenges. The party formed alliances with other political movements and has declared its intention to contest the 2024 elections.

Mr. Kyerematen first resigned from the NPP in 2008 following attacks on his supporters after the NPP held its 2007 presidential primaries. He had been an active member of the NPP since its establishment in 1992. On Wednesday, September 12, 2024, Alan Kyerematen officially submitted his nomination to contest Ghana’s 2024 presidential elections as an independent candidate.

In 2024, Mr. Kyerematen chose a youthful running mate, Kwame Owusu Danso (KOD), who doubles as a lawyer, broadcast journalist, and youth activist. After filing his nomination, Mr. Kyerematen reiterated his commitment to being a “transitional leader” dedicated to securing the future for Ghana’s younger generation.

“I am fighting for the youth to have the opportunity to lead this country,” Kyerematen stated. He also pledged that 50% of his appointees would be drawn from the youth, a move aimed at promoting fresh perspectives and dynamic leadership in government.

Central to his campaign is his Great Transformational Plan (GTP), which addresses the immediate needs of Ghanaians, particularly the youth. The GTP focuses on economic transformation, job creation, and national development, offering a roadmap for addressing unemployment and underemployment, key concerns for millions of young voters.

His development agenda goes beyond mere job creation, incorporating industrial transformation and tourism infrastructure development with private sector partnerships. This vision, he argues, will create long-term economic stability and reduce Ghana’s dependence on external financial institutions like the IMF and World Bank, a reliance for which both the NPP and NDC have faced criticism in recent years.

The Afrafranto Alliance, a coalition of civil society groups and grassroots movements, has rallied behind Kyerematen’s candidacy, reflecting growing frustration with the promises of the major political parties. Many of these groups are led by young activists who see in Kyerematen a leader capable of transcending party lines and focusing on the nation’s future.

Mr. Kyerematen proposed governance reforms aimed at improving transparency and reducing political cronyism. These include replacing the Council of State with a Second Chamber and establishing an Anti-Corruption Czar with prosecutorial powers. His pledge to limit his administration to just 40 ministers also sets him apart from the more bloated administrations of the past.

Unfortunately, Mr. Kojo Alan Kyerematen obtained 31,202 votes, representing 0.28%, in the 2024 general elections. The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, was crowned the winner. This made him the first leader in the Fourth Republic to return to office after serving a term.

Addressing the nation on Tuesday, the returning officer announced that former President John Mahama garnered 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55%, while the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, polled 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61%.

“Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP obtained 4,657,304 being 41.61%, Daniel Augustus Lartey Jnr of the GCPP obtained 16,673 being 0.15%, Christian Kwabena Andrews of the Ghana Union Movement obtained 16,461 being 0.15%, Kofi Akpalu of the LPG obtained 5,219 being 0.09%, Mohammed Frimpong of the National Democratic Party obtained 4,413 being 0.04%.

“Nana Akosua Frimpong of the CPP obtained 23,397 being 0.21%, Mr. John Dramani Mahama of the NDC obtained 6,328,397 being 56.55%, Mr. Hassan Ayariga of the APC obtained 17,461 being 0.16%, Mr. Kwasi Koranteng, independent candidate, obtained 3,320 being 0.03%, Mr. George Barima Adu, independent candidate, obtained 3,091 being 0.02%, Nana Kwame Bediako, independent candidate, obtained 84,478 being 0.75%, Mr. Kojo Alan Kyerematen, independent candidate, obtained 31,202 being 0.28%,” the EC noted.

However, Jean Mensa clarified that the results were based on votes from 267 constituencies, with results from nine constituencies still pending. She assured that even if the results from these nine constituencies, which account for just over 947,000 votes, were included, the outcome would not alter Mahama’s victory.

The margin between Mahama’s votes and Bawumia’s stands at 1,671,093. Mensa added that the results from the nine constituencies would be compiled and incorporated into the final record once available.

The total valid votes cast in the election were 11,191,422, with 239,109 ballots rejected. The total votes cast were 11,430,531, while the electoral register contained 18,774,159 registered voters. The voter turnout, based on the 267 constituencies, was 60.9%.

Movement for Change commiserates with Asanteman over queen mother’s death

The Movement for Change has expressed its condolences to the Royal Family and Asanteman for their loss.

In a statement shared yesterday, Monday, August 12, the ‘Butterfly Movement’ extended “its deepest condolences to His Majesty Crumfus Deel Tutu Anatio, the Royal Family, and the people of Aumeman on the swing of the Auntahemaa, Mana Vladom”.

Not only did the late queenmother play a motherly role for the Ashanti kingdom, according to the butterfly movement, but she also served as a light to the nation.

“The late Asantehemaa was not only a mother to Asanteman but a guiding light to the entire nation, whose reign was marked by wisdom, dignity, and an unwavering dedication to unity, peace, and the preservation of our cherished traditions,” the statement read.

The statement went on to highlight her wise counsel and unwavering leadership, she fostered stronger bonds of kinship and harmony within the Kingdom and throughout Ghana.

“Through her counsel and steadfast leadership, she strengthened the bonds of kinship and harmony both within the Kingdom and across Ghana” it added.

The Alan Kyeremanten Movement ended that, “Her transition to the ancestral realm is a monumental loss, not only for Asanteman but for all Ghanaians.

The Movement for Change mourns with you in this time of great sorrow and calls for calm, reflection, and the sustaining grace of the Almighty upon our land, especially amid the other tragic circumstances that have recently befallen our nation”.

The 14th Queen of the Asante Kingdom, Asantehemaa Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, has passed away.

She died at nearly 100 years old. Her passing was announced today at an emergency sitting of the Asanteman Traditional Council, which was presided over by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Paramount, divisional, and sub-chiefs from across the Ashanti Kingdom have assembled at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi for the meeting, which was earlier announced in a statement on August 7.

According to reports, there is enhanced security around the palace, with traditional protocol officers and police personnel working together to maintain order and ensure the smooth conduct of proceedings.

Profile of Asantehemaa Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III

Asantehemaa was named Nana Ama Konadu at birth and is also known by all as Nana Panin or Naa Panin. She later became Nana Konadu Yiadom III, after her enstoolment as the 14th Asantehemaa on February 6, 2016.

She was born in 1927 at Benyaade Shrine at Merdan, a small town located at Kwadaso, Kumasi, in the days of the restoration of the Asante Confederacy.

She was born to Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, Asantehemaa, who reigned from 1977 to 2016. Her father was known as Opanin Kofi Fofie, known popularly as Koofie or Keewuo, a carpenter by profession from Besease near Atimatim in Kumasi.

At a very tender age, just when she was a little over a year old and being breastfed, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, Asantehemaa, was separated from her biological mother and given to her aunt (mother’s sister), Nana Afia Konadu, at Ashanti New Town (Ash-Town), a suburb of Kumasi.

Nanahemaa never had any formal education, but she underwent a rigorous and quality informal education, learning a lot of things that were not taught in the classroom.

She was initiated and underwent puberty rites together with her niece, Nana Abena Ansa, in their early teens. She married Opanin Kwame Boateng, a blacksmith by profession from Aduman in Kumasi.

She was religious, kindhearted, calm, fair and firm, hardworking, very humble, unassuming, and accommodating. In the mid-1990s, Kwaku Firi Bosomfo, the priest of Kwaku Firi, prophesied through Baffour Akoto, a Senior Linguist of Asantehene, that Nanahemaa would be Queen of Asante someday, and surely, it came to pass.

Nanahemaa achieved a lot and has been recognized as such. Through her constant generosity in doing God’s work, the Saviour Church named a school after her, Nana Konadu Saviour School. She exhibited a high level of equity, justice, and fairness, and all cases brought before her have been settled amicably to the satisfaction of both parties involved.

In celebrating her 5th Anniversary as Asantehemaa, she made a huge donation to the mothers at the Mother-Baby Unit (MBU), Pediatric Emergency Care Unit (PICU) and Pediatric Emergency Unit (PEU) and paid for all the medical bills and expenses for new mothers at the Mother-Baby Unit (MBU) at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and Manhyia Government District Hospital.

Nanahemaa started a vigorous campaign and instituted an annual event to encourage mothers to breastfeed their young ones, the main reason why she made a generous donation to the Mother-Baby Unit at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and Manhyia Government District Hospital.

The one-week observation of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, has been announced by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

In the aftermath of the official announcement of the Queen Mother’s demise, Otumfuo made known to the public that Thursday, August 21, 2025, has been scheduled for the ceremony.

The one-week rite will be held at the forecourt of the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

After eight years of dedicated service to the Ashanti Kingdom, mourners from across Ghana and beyond are expected to gather to pay their last respects to the Asante monarch,

According to Palace officials, Nana Konadu Yiadom III’s one-week observation will follow traditional Asante customs, with chiefs, queen mothers, and government officials

Meanwhile members of the public are expected to attend in mourning attire.

  • Kufuor endorsement of Bawumia is an indirect campaign against me – Alan Kyerematen ‘rants’

Kufuor endorsement of Bawumia is an indirect campaign against me – Alan Kyerematen ‘rants’

Leader of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, has accused the former President John Agyekum Kufuor of working against his presidential ambitions.

Kufuor has endorsed Bawumia before, which wasn’t an issue, Alan said, however, this time, Kufuor’s comparison of Bawumia with other candidates, lauding the vice president as “better” or “the best” elevates him above other candidates suggesting it undermines his own efforts in the race.

Kyerematen emphasized his position as a key contender in the election, highlighting the significance of not overlooking John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, as both he and Kufuor are respected former leaders of the nation.

He urged the former president to refrain from making public endorsements, cautioning that such actions could create division and negatively impact the political landscape.

Speaking in an interview on Starr FM on December 5, 2024, he stated, “I will tell President Kufuor that after a distinguished career in politics, he should stay out of election pronouncements about the pending election.

“You may recall that this is not the first time that he is endorsing the vice president, and nobody had any difficulty with that. But when you go to the extent of making comparisons that he is better or the best, then it means that you are campaigning against the two of us.

“And the way I see it, if he was saying this also in respect of former President John Mahama, then it is very strange because I will find it difficult to understand how he will be able to convince the NDC that Bawumia is better than former President John Mahama.

“It would be strange for a former head of state to make a judgment against another former head of state. So if that were the case, then I take it that he is basically campaigning against me.”

I thank God for vindicating me – Shalimar Abbiusi

Spokesperson for the New Force Movement, Shalimar Abbiusi has reacted to a recent ruling instructing Ghana to compensate her with a sum of ten thousand dollars which is equivalent to one hundred and fifty, nine and fifty and eight pesewas Ghana Cedis (GHS157,953.80) for violating her rights.

Shalimar Abbiusi took to the X platform to express heartfelt gratitude to God for stepping in and granting her victory in her case against Ghana.

She wrote “I won my court case against Ghana, I am vindicated- I thank GOD”.

Ms. Abbiusi had lodged a complaint against Ghana, accusing it of infringing on her rights to liberty, fair trial, freedom of movement, equality before the law, and protection from discrimination as outlined in the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

Shalimar Abbiusi was initially detained on December 4, 2023, after being accused of falsifying documents to obtain a student residence permit at Ghana Christian University College.

Although she was granted bail by National Security, she was rearrested and deported on December 20, 2023, just a day after charges against her were dropped by prosecutors from the Ghana Immigration Service.

However, the ECOWAS Court has argued that her rights were violated, emphasizing that the actions taken against her were in breach of international human rights standards and protections.

Meanwhile, The New Force Movement has called on civil society organisations, human rights defenders, and the international community to join in condemning these violations and to support reforms that protect human rights in Ghana.

“We call on civil society organisations, human rights advocates, and the international community to join us in condemning these violations and supporting efforts for meaningful reform in Ghana. Together, we can foster a future where every individual’s rights are respected and protected. For further information or media inquiries, please contact our communications team at info@thenewforce.org,” it stated.

In a statement the New Force Movement reaffirmed its commitment to the fair application of laws across Africa and urged the Ghanaian government to respect human rights and the rule of law, as guaranteed by the nation’s Constitution.

“The New Force is dedicated to ensuring that laws are upheld fairly across all African nations, advocating for the rights of individuals regardless of their background. We urge the Ghanaian government to respect human rights and uphold the rule of law, as guaranteed by our Constitution. The actions against Ms. Abbiusi exemplify a broader issue of political persecution that threatens the foundations of democracy in Ghana. As we move forward, we remain steadfast in our mission to promote transparency and accountability within governmental institutions for the benefit of all.”

According to the statement, the legal representatives for Abbiusi, Francis-Xavier Sosu and Belinda Narkey Quaynor, have expressed their satisfaction with the ruling.

The statement added that lawyer Sosu particularly praised the court’s decision, which he believes upheld his client’s rights adding that he “feels vindicated that the ECOWAS Court has protected the rights of Shalimar.”

Movement 4 Change concludes 7-day caravan tour in Volta Region

The much-anticipated seven-day caravan tour of the Volta Region by the Movement for Change has come to a successful end.

The tour, which sought to engage communities and share Kyerematen’s vision for a better Ghana, concluded with a passionate address from team lead Hopeson Adorye.

Mr Adorye stressed the urgency for the people of Volta to reconsider their political choices, urging them to opt for transformative leadership.

During the tour, events were held in several towns, including Ho, Aflao, Anloga, Dzodze, Keta, Anlo Afiadenyigba, Hohoe, Peki, and Kpando. Adorye and his team connected with thousands of residents, emphasizing the failures of the two dominant political parties.

“They have failed to deliver the change that Ghanaians so desperately need,” Adorye declared. “It is time to choose a leader who has the experience, integrity, and vision to steer our country towards prosperity.”

Adorye highlighted Alan Kyerematen’s extensive political career and dedication to public service, describing him as “an experienced politician with a heart of gold.” He encouraged Ghanaians to move beyond partisan loyalty and recognize Kyerematen’s potential to lead real change.

“Alan is the leader we need to rebuild our economy, empower our women, and ensure that every Ghanaian has access to opportunities,” he added.

Throughout the tour, Kyerematen’s team shared testimonials of his accomplishments and presented a comprehensive development plan focused on education, healthcare, and infrastructure improvements. These messages resonated with many residents, who voiced their frustration with the current political landscape.

As the caravan moved from one community to another, excitement grew. Supporters carried placards with slogans such as “Vote for Change” and “A Better Ghana with Alan,” reflecting the hope Kyerematen’s vision inspired. His message of unity and progress struck a chord with many, fueling anticipation for a new direction in leadership.

Adorye also addressed the youth, saying, “Your future is in your hands. Don’t allow the mistakes of the past to dictate your future. Vote for Alan Kyerematen and let’s build the Ghana we deserve.”

As the tour wrapped up, Adorye called for a massive voter turnout in the upcoming elections, saying, “We need every one of you to go out and vote. Together, we can bring about the change we need. Alan Kyerematen is the beacon of hope for Ghana.”

The Movement for Change caravan tour not only bolstered support for Kyerematen but also ignited a renewed discussion about the future of Ghanaian politics. With elections approaching, the momentum from the tour could play a significant role in shaping the political landscape and encouraging voters to pursue a new path forward.

Alan Kyerematen vows to complete the Greater Kumasi Industrial City Project

Leader and presidential candidate of the Movement for Change/Afrafranto Alliance, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, has committed to finishing the Greater Kumasi Industrial City and Special Economic Zone in Ejisu if he wins the December 7 elections.

The Greater Kumasi Project, also referred to as the Greater Kumasi Industrial City and Special Economic Zone, aims to develop a significant industrial hub in the Kumasi area of Ghana.

This initiative is designed to enhance economic activities and promote industrial growth in the region, ultimately contributing to the national economy.

During an October 3, 2024, visit to the Palace of Ejisu Manhene, Nana Afrane Okese IV, Mr. Kyerematen highlighted the transformative potential of the project, promising that it would significantly boost Ghana’s industrial growth and economic prosperity.

“If elected as president, I will build the biggest projects that can turn the fortunes of the country,” Mr Kyerematen declared. He highlighted the importance of the Greater Kumasi Industrial City, stating,

“I want every Ghanaian to know that there is something big coming into the country—this project is a massive step towards industrialising our economy.”

The $2.5 billion initiative is expected to revolutionise the nation’s industrial sector and create vast employment opportunities.

Alan Kyerematen revealed that the Ejisu Manhene played a pivotal role in drafting the project, which demonstrates their shared vision for the region. “Nana Afrane Okese IV was part of the team that conceptualised this entire project,” he noted.

To underscore his commitment to the development of Asanteman and Ejisu, Alan Kyerematen disclosed, “I single-handedly secured $30 million in World Bank funding to get this project started – this is proof that I have Asanteman and Ejisu at heart.”

In addition to the World Bank funding, Mr Alan Kyerematen secured $100 million from the government of the Republic of Korea for the first phase of the project.

He pointed out that while the government has already initiated the Buankra Inland Port, “the port alone cannot move the industrialization agenda I have been championing. That is why the Greater Kumasi Industrial City is needed to truly accelerate our industrial progress.”

Election 2024: Focus on your campaign and desist from politics of insult – Otumfuo to Alan

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has urged Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, leader of the Movement for Change and a presidential candidate, to prioritise a campaign centred on policies rather than personal attacks ahead of the December 7 elections.

The Asantehene shared this counsel during Kyerematen’s visit to the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday, October 2, where he sought the backing of the Ashanti Region.

Otumfuo emphasised the need for a campaign focused on policies that would improve the lives of Ghanaians, cautioning against the use of insults and divisive rhetoric.

“All I will say is that Alan Kyerematen is my grandson, and I will support his vision. I will urge you to clearly explain your policies to Ghanaians so they understand what you’re capable of.

Focus on your campaign and your messages and desist from politics of insult.”

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II urged Alan Kyerematen to focus his presidential campaign on substantive issues that resonate with the concerns of Ghanaians.

The Asantehene made this recommendation when Kyerematen, leader of the Movement for Change, visited the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday, October 2, to garner support from the people of the Ashanti Region.

In response, Kyerematen expressed his gratitude for the Asantehene’s advice, vowing to conduct a campaign based on policies rather than personal attacks.

He reaffirmed his dedication to addressing the key challenges facing the nation and emphasised the values of his movement.

Additionally, Kyerematen introduced his running mate to the Asantehene, seeking the blessing and backing of the region’s traditional leadership as he prepares for the election.

  • 2024 election: We will never accept a rigged result – Movement for Change warns EC

2024 election: We will never accept a rigged result – Movement for Change warns EC

The Movement for Change has made it clear that, in the event that there is proof that the election was rigged, it will not accept the results of the December 7 election.

This comes after the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, urged political parties to recognize the results of the general elections in 2024.

Jean Mensa urged political leaders to accept the results of the polls and guaranteed transparent elections during the Wednesday presentation of the Democracy Cup to the EC by the leadership of Parliament in Accra.

“Just like in a football match, we serve as the midwives that birth the elections. We are the referees that conduct and lay the elections and the processes that lead to election day itself.

“So, as referees, we are committed to ensuring that our activities from now in the lead-up to the election and all our electoral processes are transparent, open, fair, and involve the collaboration of our key stakeholders, that is, the political parties and the citizenry.

“We commit to ensuring transparency in all aspects of our work… We will commit to maintaining and showing that level of transparency across all aspects of our work.

“So, we also want to entreat and call upon the contestants of the election to accept the outcomes of the election. Surely there will be a winner and surely there will be losers,” she stated.

Leading member of the Movement for Change, Solomon Owusu, commented further on the matter on Thursday during an interview on the Ghana Kasa show on Kasapa 102.5FM/Agoo TV.

He claimed that the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission does not have the authority to order political parties to accept election results.

“If you organize a free, fair, and transparent election, who will have cause to dispute the results? We know that in every election it is either you win or lose. But we will never accept any outcome of an election when it is clear that the Electoral Commission colluded with others to rig it in favor of a particular political party. As for that one, we will never accept that result. If it is the EC’s intention to rig the election, that is why they and President Akufo-Addo are preparing the minds of Ghanaians, then they must be very careful.”

He added: “The EC has only one mandate: to organize a free, fair, and transparent election. If you conduct a bogus election and tell us to accept the outcome, we will resist with vehemence and all the power we can marshal.”

A future gov’t led by me will intensify the fight against corruption – Alan

Leader of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen has outlined ambitious plans for Ghana’s future, emphasizing a robust anti-corruption strategy and economic revitalization.

He proposed replacing the Office of the Special Prosecutor with an independent Anti-corruption Overlord, consolidating fragmented anti-corruption laws under one comprehensive document.

Kyerematen’s manifesto, the Great Transformational Plan (GTP), promises to prioritize the needs of vulnerable groups, including better support for persons living with disabilities.

He criticized District Assemblies for not releasing sufficient Common Fund allocations to these groups.

Additionally, he aims to significantly reduce Ghana’s debt-to-GDP ratio from 62.7% to 5%, signaling his vision for economic recovery and national development.

He said, “It is very important that we review the existing programmes. Governments will say we have programmes for persons living with disabilities but how far has this programmes helped them?” He asked.

“Currently, the Special Prosecutor derives its powers from the Attorney-General which is not helping to support the powers of the Special Prosecutor, so we are proposing that authorities assigned to the Overlord is not linked to the Attorney-General and so we are creating a whole new institution for dealing with corruption which is different from what we have now,” Alan Kyerematen added.

Yellow Ghana party denies copying colour from Movement for Change

Ghana’s newly established political party, Yellow Ghana, has strongly denied allegations that it has copied the yellow color used by the Movement for Change.

The party, which recently received its provisional certificate from the Electoral Commission, responded to the claims made by Hopeson Adorye, Director of Special Duties for Movement for Change.

In an interview with Accra-based Okay FM, Adorye expressed gratitude to Yellow Ghana for increasing the visibility of the yellow colour associated with Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change.

“Everyone is aware that the colour yellow is affiliated with Alan Kyeremanten’s movement and that it was the first to officially use the colour and make it known to the public,” Adorye stated.

He also mentioned that Yellow Ghana’s activities inadvertently promote the Movement for Change.

Yellow Ghana rebutted these claims, emphasizing that the party has been in existence since 2020.

Samuel Apea-Danquah, the party’s leader, contested the 2020 general election under the Yellow Ghana Movement, long before Alan Kyeremanten left the New Patriotic Party.

Apea-Danquah initiated the process to register Yellow Ghana in 2020, and on May 30, 2024, the Electoral Commission granted the party a provisional certificate.

According to a release signed by Edwin Yeboah Takyi, Interim National Public Relations Director of Yellow Ghana, “Samuel Apea-Danquah launched his presidential campaign under Yellow Ghana well before Mr Alan Kyeremanten resigned from the NPP and started his Movement for Change on September 25, 2023.”

The release further stated that Yellow Ghana has been conducting free health screenings since September 1, 2023, using their distinctive yellow tents in various locations including Accra Central, Circle, Kasoa, and Kaneshie First Light.

The party clarified its long-standing association with the yellow colour, having participated in the 2020 General Elections under this symbol.

The release added, “Despite their attire, it is clear that the advertised colours of the Movement for Change are not yellow. The monarch butterfly, by nature, is orange, black, and white, and most of the Movement for Change’s promotional materials also reflect these colours.”

Yellow Ghana expressed regret over the confusion caused by the color scheme associated with Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change, stressing that it detracts from the significant policies in Yellow Ghana’s manifesto.

The party remains focused on promoting these policies through ongoing media tours by their flagbearer.

MFC asks EC to publish photos of returning officers

A spokesperson for the Movement for Change, Mr. Solomon Owusu, has urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to release the names and photographs of all Returning Officers for the forthcoming general elections scheduled for December 7, 2024, in the interest of transparency.

Mr. Owusu emphasized that this step is essential for ensuring transparency throughout and after the elections.

During an appearance on the Citizen’s Show hosted by KOJ on Accra 100.5 FM on Monday, May 27, 2024, Mr. Owusu cited the Ejisu by-election in the Ashanti Region as a significant example.

He alleged that the EC’s Returning Officers influenced the outcome of the by-election, resulting in the defeat of Mr. Kwabena Owusu Aduomi to the New Patriotic Party’s candidate, Kwabena Boateng.

Mr. Owusu argued that the Ejisu by-election served as a rehearsal for the governing party’s purported election rigging tactics.

Highlighting the importance of transparency, Mr. Owusu urged the publication of the names and images of Returning Officers to deter potential election manipulation.

He cautioned that the failure to do so could put the lives of EC officials at risk, making them vulnerable during the elections.

In conclusion, Mr. Owusu’s plea for transparency aims to uphold the integrity of the upcoming elections and shield EC officials from harm.

  • This is why Hopeson Adorye was arrested

Prominent member of the Movement for Change (M4C) and husband of gospel musician Empress Gifty, Hopeson Adorye was arrested by the police on May 22, 2024.

The arrest follows statements Adorye made during a May 10 interview on Accra FM, where he claimed involvement in a plot to scare voters in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) stronghold by detonating dynamite in parts of the Volta Region during the December 2016 elections.

This action, he asserted, was intended to ensure a victory for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Adorye recounted, “Prior to the elections, we blasted dynamite in parts of the Volta Region, and that scared a number of people. When I finished casting my ballot in Tema, I drove to the Volta Region, and when I asked for the number of people who had voted and the expected number of voters, it turned out people did not come out to vote.”

According to myjoyonline.com, Adorye is currently assisting the police with their investigation into these claims.

    M4C Supporters Protest Adorye’s Arrest

Following Hopeson Adorye’s arrest, supporters of the Movement for Change (M4C), aligned with Alan Kyerematen, gathered at the Ministries Police Station on May 22 to demand his release.

The supporters alleged that Adorye’s arrest was politically motivated.

One protester, captured on camera, questioned the legality of his detention and suggested political interference.

“Are we still in military rule or civilian rule? What is democracy about? We are here today; we are going to sleep with Hopeson Adorye here. If they are detaining Hopeson, then they have to detain every supporter of Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen,” she said. She further claimed the government was trying to silence Adorye to prevent further damaging revelations about the party’s tactics.

Buaben Asamoa accuses government of political witchhunt

Yaw Buaben Asamoa, former Member of Parliament for Adentan, has accused the government of conducting a political witchhunt with Adorye’s arrest.

In an interview on Joy FM, Asamoa confirmed Adorye’s detention at the Ministries Police Station on charges of publishing false information.

“Hopeson Adorye is not about to run away from Ghana or from his home because the police intend to charge him with the publication of false information. So, to go to the extent of keeping him all day in the police station and bringing him over to the Ministries to detain him, you point fingers backward at yourself that there is something political at play and it’s not fair,” he argued. Asamoa emphasized, “This is obviously politically motivated, there is no doubt about that.”

Alan and his Movement for Change are joining NPP soon – New Juabeng South DCE

The District Chief Executive (DCE) of the New Juabeng South Assembly, Isaac Apaw-Gyasi, has disclosed that former Trades Minister John Alan Kyeremanten is set to rejoin the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Apaw-Gyasi made this revelation during an interview on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Tuesday. He stated that the decision for Kyeremanten to rejoin the NPP follows a peaceful resolution of the issues that led him to break away from the ruling party to form his own movement.

“You don’t have to worry about our brothers from Movement for Change because they are joining the NPP soon…,” he said.

“We have had conversations and resolved all issues. You can take it from me they are coming back,” he added.

John Alan Kyeremanten broke away from the NPP in September 2023 to form his own political movement, the Movement for Change.

This movement, which Kyeremanten describes as youth-led, aims to address the country’s challenges. The Movement for Change has formed alliances with other political movements and has declared its intention to contest the 2024 elections.

Apaw-Gyasi, however, claimed that the NPP has taken several steps to prevent Kyeremanten from realizing his vision of having his image on the final ballot sheet for the 2024 elections.

He stated that efforts are being made to convince Kyeremanten to return to the NPP.

  • Just 3 people left, not 6,000 – Hopeson Adorye on deflecting M4C members to NPP

Just 3 people left, not 6,000 – Hopeson Adorye on deflecting M4C members to NPP

Director of Special Duties for the Movement for Change, Hopeson Adorye, has disputed assertions that six thousand members of the movement have switched allegiance to the ruling New Patriotic Party.

He stated that, to his knowledge, only three individuals have defected.

“Only three people have left. I am challenging them to provide data for the six thousand they are claiming. It is true they were reaching out to people to join them but they all turned them down.

I am telling you that I can provide some of them to come to your studio and speak. They called people to come, and they all turned them down.

Alfred Ababio Kumi, a former NPP parliamentary candidate for Adenta who had previously joined the Movement for Change, held a press conference on Monday, April 22, 2024, to announce that he is leading six thousand members back to the NPP.

Kumi stressed that his group acknowledged their error in leaving the NPP and expressed renewed support for the party and its flagbearer in the upcoming 2024 general election.

However, Hopeson Adorye disputed this claim, stating that there is no evidence to support the assertion that the Movement for Change, led by Alan Kyerematen, lost six thousand members.

“Six thousand from where? If you claim six thousand have defected, you must have data to prove it. They are very aware that Movement for Change engages in a voluntary recruitment process through our website, www.alankyerematen.com.

“We have so far recruited over a million people who joined the movement voluntarily,” he stated.

  • I won’t borrow to construct roads if I become president – Alan K

I won’t borrow to construct roads if I become president – Alan K

Presidential Candidate of Movement for Change, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, envisions a development paradigm where the private sector funds road infrastructure, diverging from government loans.

He believes this will remedy the country’s poor road network, especially in the Western Region, known for its significant resource contribution yet neglected roads.

Addressing journalists after touring the Western Region, Mr Kyerematen emphasized his commitment to change the road development narrative.

He proposed incentivizing the private sector to finance road projects instead of relying on government resources.

Tolling major roads and fostering public-private partnerships, akin to successful port ventures, would be instrumental, he noted.

Mr Kyerematen also addressed the persistent illegal mining issue, commonly known as ‘Galamsey,’ stressing the need for a holistic approach.

“I’ve made a policy commitment that under an Alan Presidency, financing road projects will not be done with government budgetary resources. I will create an arrangement where the private sector is enabled and supported with incentives to raise the finances to fund road projects.

“The government does not need to borrow money to fund road projects. With the right incentives private investors, both local and foreign, will be drawn to take on such roles.”

For example, he explained, “This means we have to toll all our major roads. Government resources will then only be restricted to town roads…And it’s not just for roads but all other public infrastructure. If you take the Tema and to some extent the Takoradi Ports, it is a public-private investment. If you take some of the world’s most developed air and sea ports are financed by the private sector, so why not Ghana…”

He advocated for involving small-scale miners in sustainable solutions, proposing a model where they become stakeholders in legal mining ventures, subject to environmental regulations.

Under his governance, Mr Kyerematen pledged to empower youth in mining areas, facilitating legal mining operations aligned with international standards while ensuring environmental stewardship.

Sasu outlined the Movement’s strategy to establish a strong presence in universities, empowering the youth to champion the founder’s vision for national transformation.

Additionally, forthcoming inaugurations at the University of Cape Coast and University of Education, Winneba, signify the Movement’s expansion and outreach efforts.

Movement for Change youth leader urges young people to be confident in Alan Kyerematen

Youth Leader of the Movement for Change, Duke Aaron Sasu, a fresh political initiative in Ghana, has encouraged Ghanaian youth, particularly those in tertiary institutions, to embrace and trust in the principles and aspirations of the movement.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) chapter of the Movement in Kumasi, Sasu, who also serves as the Spokesperson of the Movement, emphasized the significance of the ‘Great Transformational Plan,’ a developmental agenda aimed at enhancing the socio-economic prospects of the nation.

He underscored the pivotal role of youth in the Movement’s agenda for national transformation, urging them to align themselves with the leadership of Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen to steer the country towards progress, particularly for the benefit of the youth.

Formed by Alan Kyerematen, former Minister for Trade and Industry in President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration, the Movement for Change aims to propel Ghana towards accelerated growth by efficiently managing its human and natural resources to effect transformation.

The Movement believes that with effective leadership, Ghana possesses the necessary resources to create jobs and wealth, thereby alleviating poverty.

Sasu stressed the importance of embracing the ideologies of the Movement, suggesting that they offer solutions to the years of economic mismanagement, which have led Ghana to seek financial assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on multiple occasions since independence in 1957.

He expressed optimism about the future of the country under credible leadership, citing the proven leadership qualities of the Movement’s founder, Kyerematen, who is leading the Movement in the upcoming presidential race in the December General elections.

Sasu argued that the two dominant political parties in Ghana, the NPP and the NDC, which have governed the country for the past three decades, have fallen short.

He called for a departure from the country’s political duopoly and advocated for new leadership to drive transformation and sustainable growth.

Sasu highlighted the Movement’s intention to establish a strong presence in universities and urged the KNUST wing to champion the founder’s vision, recognizing that the future of the nation lies with the youth.

He tasked the ‘Yellow Army’ to fully grasp the philosophy of the founder’s Great Transformational Plan (GTP) as exemplary ambassadors.

Meanwhile, a notice shared on the Movement’s social media platforms indicates that the University of Cape Coast and University of Education, Winneba, chapters will be inaugurated in the coming days.

  • Bawumia’s campaign team is divided; it will be difficult for him to win 2024 elections – Movement For Change

Bawumia’s campaign team is divided; it will be difficult for him to win 2024 elections – Movement For Change

Spokesperson for the Movement For Change (MFC), Solomon Owusu, has voiced his concern about the potential electoral performance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, .

According to him, it will be difficult for Bawumia to secure more votes in the upcoming December 7 polls with the current composition of his campaign team.

He highlighted internal division within the party, particularly the exclusion of followers of Ken Agyapong from the campaign team.

”If the NPP uses this campaign team to secure even 12% of the national votes in the 2024 general elections, I will be shocked and be disappointed in Ghanaians. This campiagn team is already divided and this shows that there’s nothing like unity in the party. Ken Agyapong was Bawumia’s contender in the party’s Presidential primary but none of the people who followed Ken Agyapong was selected as member of the campaign team. Ken Agyapong’s followers have been left out in the campaign team. What the Bawumia people are saying is that the party belongs to us and we’ve taken it.

”The NPP cannot secure 12% of votes in the coming election. Mahama in 2016 with inflation at 15.4% secured 44% and Akufo-Addo -Bawumia government inflation stands at 23.5%. Work out the simple proportion and see the percentage of votes Bawumia will secure come December 7 election. Mahama’s debt to GDP was 57% or so, even that one Ghanaians gave him 44% of votes cast but Akufo-Addo – Bawumia’s debt to GDP is over 70%, how many percentage of votes do you expect Ghanaians to give him,” Solomon Owusu asked?

During his appearance on the Ghana Kasa show on Kasapa 102.5FM, Mr Owusu stated that if the NPP secures12% votes in the 2024 general elections, it would be a shocking and disappointing outcome.

The NPP National Executive Committee and National Council meetings appointed members for the Presidential campaign team on Monday, February 19, 2024, including figures like Justin Kodua Frimpong, Henry Nana Boakye, and Dan Botwe, Owusu expressed doubt about the team’s ability to secure victory.

Let’s prioritize welfare of street children – Alan Kyerematen

The Founder and Leader of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, has affirmed his dedication to offering substantial assistance to orphaned and underprivileged children through the social welfare department if elected President in the December 7 polls.

His commitment involves revitalizing the department with essential resources to ensure the provision of crucial social services.

Kyerematen emphasized the significance of establishing market-based support centers that deliver essential services such as education, counseling, healthcare, and nutritional aid to these children.

These centers, he explained, will serve as secure and supportive spaces, addressing not only the material needs but also the emotional and psychological well-being of the children.

Mr. Kyerematen declared his unwavering determination to prioritize the welfare of neglected children if entrusted with the presidency, stating, “Let us come together to ensure that every child, regardless of their circumstances, receives the care and support they deserve. Through compassion and action, we can build a future where no child is left behind, beginning with initiatives rooted in our markets.”

These remarks were shared by Mr. Kyerematen in a Facebook post following his encounter with orphaned children seeking alms at the Bantama market during his campaign tour.

“Let us come together to ensure that every child, regardless of their circumstances, receives the care and support they deserve.

I will provide incentives to farmers to boost production if voted to power – Alan Kyerematen

Independent Presidential aspirant, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has laid out a comprehensive vision to uplift farmers in the agricultural sector, pledging transformative measures if successful in the upcoming 2024 elections.

Mr Kyerematen has committed to providing crucial incentives for farmers, aiming to facilitate easier access to financing and consequently boost overall agricultural production.

Addressing the issue of produce wastage at farm gates due to transportation challenges, he has promised to implement measures to reduce transportation and logistics costs significantly.

The leader of the Movement for Change has also assured the public of his dedication to enhancing irrigation systems, vowing to introduce a novel financing scheme to elevate both agricultural production and productivity.

During an interview on The Point of View on Citi TV, Mr Kyerematen emphasised the importance of affordable agricultural financing, asserting, “To reduce distribution and transport costs, you have to provide incentives to improve the distribution and marketing regime. Agricultural production, number 1, is access to affordable agricultural financing.”

The former Trade Minister further stressed the need for a distinct financing approach, highlighting that a lending rate exceeding 9% would be unsustainable for agricultural productivity.

With a focus on addressing distribution challenges and bolstering irrigation, Kyerematen’s outlined plan aims to reshape the agricultural landscape, promising a revitalized and competitive sector if he emerges victorious in the upcoming elections.

  • Bawumia is out of innovative solutions to restore the economy – Alan Kyerematen

The founder of the Movement for Change, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen has raised doubts about Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia‘s ability to introduce innovative solutions for the nation’s economic challenges.

In a forthcoming interview on TV3, Kyerematen asserted, “Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is exhausted. There is nothing new he can do, and that is a fact,” emphasizing concerns about Bawumia’s perceived lack of fresh ideas to rejuvenate the struggling economy.

Having departed from the New Patriotic Party in September 2023 to establish the Movement for Change, Kyerematen cautioned Ghanaians against placing trust in Vice President Bawumia’s assurances.

He argued that Bawumia lacks the capability to instigate significant economic changes and challenged the distinction between the roles of Vice Presidency and Presidency, referring to them as a “combined ticket.”

Questioning Bawumia’s claim of independence and vision after winning the New Patriotic Party (NPP)  flagbearership race on November 4, 2023, Kyerematen contended that if Bawumia couldn’t propose transformative ideas during nearly eight years in government, his potential presidency would likely yield the same outcome for Ghana’s economic prospects.

Alan Kyerematen asserts that he is the right individual to be given the mandate because he has fresh ideas to be introduced that will change the economy for the better.

Highly influential figures are out to get Movement for Change – Buaben Asamoah

A member of the Movement for Change, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has alleged that the party is currently under attack by some prominent individuals in the political landscape.

In an interview on UTV, the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) member noted that electorates who are interested in casting their ballot for former Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen, are being persuaded not to do so on the rationale that the party will be robbed in the 2024 election as it has no polling station.

Mr Buaben Asamoa noted that such actions should not be acceptable as they set a bad precedent for Ghana’s electoral process. He did not disclose the identities of the said individuals badmouthing the Movement for Change.

“Some big men in Ghana are saying that this movement is an underdog so we will rob them during the elections. So anyone who wants to vote for Alan Kyerematen shouldn’t becuase it would be a waste of vote. Why should this be so. They are saying because he doesn’t have a polling station, he will be robbed. And a big person will tell me this. How?” he revealed.

On the other hand, Buaben Asamoa is urging the Electoral Commission (EC) to permit the inclusion of independent presidential candidates in Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meetings. The former Adentan MP asserts that independent candidates play a crucial role as stakeholders in the nation’s electoral processes.

In an interview with Citi FM, Mr. Asamoa articulated that incorporating independent candidates into IPAC meetings would introduce diverse ideas that could contribute to the overall benefit of the country. This move, he believes, would foster inclusivity and enrich the electoral discourse with a broader range of perspectives.
