    Scholarship Secretariat demands GHS20m in defamation suit against Multimedia, NDC

    Registrar of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, has initiated a defamation lawsuit against Member of Parliament for South Dayi Constituency, Rockson Nelson-Defeamekpor, and Multimedia Group Limited.

    Dr. Agyemang, who also serves as the New Patriotic Party Parliamentary candidate for Abuakwa South, alleges that on April 13, 2024, the South Dayi MP appeared on the Newsfile program on Joynews, a subsidiary of the Multimedia Group, and made defamatory statements about his character and reputation.

    “In the course of the panel’s discussion on the recent investigations into activities at The Scholarship Secretariat by a group of journalists known as The Fourth Estate, the 2nd Defendant offered the platform to the 1st Defendant to defame the plaintiff by stating that the plaintiff has been using state funds to undertake international travels every week with first-class tickets,” a statement of claim filed by the lawyers of Dr. Agyemang on April 17, 2024, stated.

    Dr. Kingsley Agyemang contends that the Member of Parliament’s assertion, disseminated both nationally and internationally through online platforms, was false and motivated by ill intent to portray him as a reckless spender of public funds, tarnishing his reputation in the eyes of the public.

    In his legal action, the Registrar of the Scholarship Secretariat has petitioned the Accra High Court for a directive compelling the defendants to retract and offer an apology for the alleged defamatory remarks.

    Additionally, he seeks an award of GH₵20,000,000 in damages against them.

    Controversial female comedian Afia Schwarzenegger has once again charged up on Multimedia, one of the well established media houses in Ghana.

    Afia Schwarzenegger, is known to be always on the case of Multimedia, either teasing and laughing at them or firing them in videos.

    Talking to Fiifi Prat on Kingdom Fm, Afia finally disclosed why she is always dissing Multimedia with her all.

    According to her, the media house had published fake news and fabricated lies about her several times, sighting two examples.

    It got to a point in the interview the host Fiifi Prat had to come in and plead with her choice of language as she started insulting the behind media house just like she does in her videos.

  • Malik Daabu, others bow out of Multimedia Group in latest chain of resignations

    One of the prominent faces to have also resigned from Multimedia Group recently is the Head of Investigative Desk Malik Daabu, MyNewsGh.com has confirmed.

    He joins others like Emma Morrison General Manager of the Joy cluster who resigned from the Group on 5th June 2020 in order to concentrate on her private businesses.

    Earlier reports suggesting that Seth Kwame Boateng who is widely known for the various life-changing documentaries had resigned and according to sources joined the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

    Malik Daabu who was moved to  head the investigative desk from another department left the Kokomlemle-based Media outfit in March this year to head the Public Relations Unit at the Ghana Maritime Authority.

    Emmanuel Aboagye Wiafe, Norvan Acquah Hayford, Philip Nanfuri, all from Joy Business, have also left the Multimedia Group this year.

    Award-Winning Sports Journalist, Benedict Owusu has also left Multimedia and is currently a service provider to the media group.

    The Multimedia Group in these few months have lost talents to other media entities in the country.

    Top names like Captain Smart, Manasseh Azure, Nana Yaa Brefo,Afia Pokuaa have left the 25 years old Media entity for reasons best known to them.

    Other persons who are said to have been sacked from the Group include Naa Ashorkor, Jerry Tsatro Mordy.

  • Emma Morrison resigns from Multimedia Group on her birthday

    MyNewsGh.com has confirmed the resignation of Head of Joy News Emma Morrison from the Multimedia Group Limited.

    No reasons have been assigned for her resignation and it is unclear where she could be heading after rendering meritorious services to the Kokomlemle based cluster of media houses.

    Our sources reveal her resignation takes effect on June 5, 2020 which coincides with her birthday.

    Prior to her current position, she was Head of Business News programming at the Multimedia Group and was in 2019 adjudged Corporate Personality of the Year at the Glitz Women of the Year Honours.

    The screen goddess and former General Manager for News and Sports at TV3 Network a subsidiary of Media General is however still looking young and vibrant in the media industry.

    Ms. Morrison over the years ruled the television screens and was loved by all with not only her looks but her outstanding voice, making listeners wanting more of the news.

    She started her media work with TV3 in 1997 as a reporter/newscaster rising through the ranks to become the General Manager for News and Sports at TV3. She later assumed a role as the Editor of Joy News TV.

    She has also won some awards like the Newscaster of the Year, TV Personality of the Year and her news programme News 360 won TV news programme of the year.

  • List of all the radio presenters who resigned from Adom FM to join Angel FM

    For the past weeks, Multimedia Group Limited has been in the news following the resignation of some of its top presenters.

    Multimedia, the owners of Adom, Asempa FM, Adom TV, and others is one of the biggest media conglomerates in the country.

    Now, a radio station has popped up online and they are making marquee signings, the station is Angel FM.

    The Madina-based radio station is owned by Dr. Kwaku Oteng and it has had some former Adom FM presenters joining the station.

    YEN.com.gh has listed the presenters who have joined Angel FM after leaving Adom FM.

    1. Captain Smart

    Captain Smart resigned from Multimedia Group Limited on Wednesday, May 27, 2020.

    In less than 48 hours after his resignation, his next destination was confirmed.

    Angel FM announced that Captain Smart will be hosting its political show starting June 1, 2020.

    2. Kofi Adomah Nwanini

    Kofi Adomah left Multimedia Group Limited in 2018. Now, the renowned presenter has returned to radio after two years on the sidelines.

    Kofi Adomah has joined Angel FM and he will officially start working on June 1, 2020.

    3. Ohemaa Woyeje

    The renowned female DJ resigned from Multimedia Group Limited in 2018.

    She joined Angel FM in early 2020 and she has become one of the station’s best presenters.

  • NPP’s John Boadu threatens boycott of Adom Tv and Multimedia

    The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party NPP has warned the crew of Adom TV and Multimedia to desist from carrying out false reportage about him.

    Speaking on the role of the media in elections, he carried his information through the host of Adom TV’s Nnawotwe Yi Mu program.

    “You see,the news the media put across is very sensitive enough to make or break citizens. If not the love I have for you Adom TV I wouldn’t have been on your station again.” He started sharing his feeling on live TV.

    ” You came to me and interviewed me on measures of the NPP in relation to our impending parliamentary primaries. I told you that the National Executive Council can decide on elections or not. The Power of the National Executive Council remains supreme. For example they have decided not to have primaries at Ayawaso West Wuogon.When you go to the Central Region, the executive council decided not to file any candidate at Komenda Edina Eguafo Constituency. I just highlighted on the powers of the executive council. But you decided to write a headline depicting that the National executive council is going to handpick candidates for the upcoming elections which I never said. If not the love I have for you I wouldn’t be here” His said.

    “Thank you for the clarification” said the host of Nnawotwe Yi My show in regards to the information from the General Secretary.

    Co-host of Badwam on Adom TV, Nana Yaa Brefo has resigned from the Multimedia Group Limited

    The television hostess cum newscaster made this decision known through a post she shared on Facebook thanking her former employers for the opportunity given her to grow.

    Reason behind her sudden resignation cannot be readily told but according to her, she needs to focus on other dreams.

    She said “I want to say a big thank you to MultiMedia and my colleagues. Also want to thank my fans for the support really appreciate also thank those who did not, you made me grow during my 10 years stay at Multi media, (Adom TV ). I bow out of multi media to follow other dreams.Thank You all for being there. Akpe”.

    However, grapevine information says the newscaster is peeved that she was forced to apologize to Nana Ama McBrown after her interview which was heavily criticized by the public.

  • REPORTS: Multimedia Group lays off 100 other workers aside Naa Ashorkor due to financial constraints

    Earlier this morning, zionfelix.net reported that outstanding actress/radio and TV personality, Naa Ashorkor Mensah Doku has been fired from the Multimedia Media Group after three years of working with them.

    Apparently, she is not the only one who has been affected by this mass lay off that hit the media network, which is arguably one of the best in the country.

    According to a report zionfelix.net sighted on Zen Gh, the managers of the company have laid off over 100 workers from Joy FM, Adom FM, and numerous other outlets.

    The report adds that the layoff has become necessary because of the financial challenges the company is facing, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

    Zen.com.gh also in their report added that another big name who lost his job is Sammy Duodu, News editor of Adom Fm.

    The Multimedia Group has laid off some of its workers

    About 100 of them have been affected

    They include the news editor for Adom FM and Naa Ashorkor Mensah Doku of Joy FM

    Information reaching us has it that about 100 workers are expected to exit the Multimedia Group by the end of May 2020.

    As reported earlier, Naa Ashorkor Mensah Doku is just one of the 100 people whom the company had laid off.

    These people are expected to say their final goodbye to the company by the close of May 2020.

    Multimedia lays off 100 workers: Naa Ashorkor and some of the brands of the Multimedia Group.

    One of the workers who has been affected is Sammy Duodo, News Editor of Adom FM. According to deep-throat sources say that the company took the decision to lay off the workers due to financial constraints.

    Our sources tell us that the company has been facing dire financial difficulties several months even before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in Ghana.

    For this reason, salaries were delayed most of the time and were sometimes paid half-way into the next month.

    We were reliably been informed that the lay off of the workers had been on the mind of management for some time now. Thus, the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic came as an opportunity for the management to let some of its staff go.

     

    Our sources further revealed that the management is refusing to send emails to the affected workers to this effect for fear of the emails being leaked.

    Some of the brands of the Multimedia Group include Adom FM, Asempa FM, Joy FM, Luv FM, Hitz FM, and Nhyira (Blessing) FM

    Multimedia Group Limited, parent company of Joy Fm, Adom Fm and numerous other outlets, has laid off over 100 workers.

    The layoff has become necessitated due to financial challenges the company is facing, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

    The company has reportedly shown over 100 workers the door, including most notably Naa Ashorkor Mensah Doku of Joy Fm.
    Naa Ashorkor announced earlier today that she had been axed from Multimedia, but her sacking was apparently just the tip of the iceberg.

    According to yen.com.gh, citing deep throat sources in the company, about 100 workers are set to face the same fate as Naa Ashorkor by the end of this month.

    Another big name said to have lost his job is Sammy Duodu, News editor of Adom Fm.

    The company has reportedly been facing financial challenges long before COVID arrived, but things became worse with the pandemic.

    Some workers reportedly had to deal with delayed salaries and other inconveniences.

    Inevitably, the company was forced to take this decision to enable it remain viable.

  • Protozoa sues Multimedia

    The Director of Political Affairs to the Chief of Staff, Frank Asiedu Bekoe popularly known as Protozoa has sued Multimedia group and one of its reporters, Kwetey Nettey for defamation over allegations leveled against him in a recent documentary on Joy FM.

    The documentary aired on Joy News programme, A.M Show on January 15, 2020 alleged that Protozoa who was then a member of the Confiscated Assets Committee allocated and auctioned seized vehicles to politically connected cronies of the government without the beneficiaries paying the required assessed.

    Mr. Bekoe in a writ filed before and Accra High Court avers that he has had a positive image as a staff at the Office of the President until the publication of the defamatory documentary about him in a manner that has caused him public disaffection and impugned his reputation, dignity and ridiculed him in the eye of the right thinking members of society.

    Documentary

    Joy News on January 15, 2020 aired a documentary in which they indicated that “JoyNews investigations have uncovered how the country lost thousands of cedis after confiscated cars were auctioned cheaply by politically connected individuals”, a story on myjoyonline about the documentary indicated.

    “These vehicles are part of 151 confiscated cars that the Director of Political Affairs at the Chief of Staff Office, Frank Asiedu Bekoe, wrote to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to be allocated to selected beneficiaries”, it added.

    The documentary further alleged that Mr. Bekoe, when contacted by the producer of the documentary declined to comment on the matter.

    Letter

    Mr. Bekoe in the aftermath of the documentary through his lawyer wrote to Multimedia asking them to retract and apologize for an allegation leveled against him.

    In the said letter, he indicated that when he was contacted by a journalist from Multimedia on the subject he requested the reporter to put his questions into writing for same to be addressed but it was not done.

    “Thus it was inaccurate to state in your documentary that our client declined to comment on the issue.”

    The letter further states that Protozoa as a member of the Confiscated Assets Committee had no input in the determination of prices or assessable duties on the confiscated vehicles.

    Writ

    Mr. Bekoe has gone ahead to file a writ against Multimedia which could mean that they failed to meet the demands of the plaintiff.

    In his statement of claim, Mr. Bekoe avers that the documentary which was published by Multimedia on various traditional and social media platforms including Youtube contains factual inaccuracies and was clearly circulated to malign and injure his reputation.

    The plaintiff also avers in the particulars of defamation that “it is clear that the defendants (Multimendia and the Kwetey Nettey) sough to embark on a one sided piece of work that was carefully calculated, designed, crafted to malign and destroy the reputation of plaintiff in the eyes right thinking members of society.”

    Relief

    Mr. Bekoe is, therefore, seeking a declaration that the documentary is defamatory of him and it was made without any basis.

    He is seeking an order directed at the defendants, agents, assigns, privies from continuing to air the defamatory documentary as well as they retracting it and rendering an unqualified apology in the same manner on Joynews and in the Daily Graphic

    He is also seeking general damages, compensatory damages of GH¢10 million for loss of reputation as well as cost including legal fees.
