Court strikes Democracy Hub’s suit seeking to disqualify Baba Jamal in Ayawaso-East by-election

A lawsuit seeking to disqualify the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) candidate in the upcoming Ayawaso East by-election scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, 2026, has been thrown out by the High Court in Accra.

The High Court gave the ruling on Monday, March 2, after it described the lawsuit as “incompetent”.

On Tuesday, February 17, the pressure group, Democracy Hub, challenged the Ayawaso East by-election. The group alleged vote-buying during the NDC’s parliamentary primaries held on February 7.
Democracy Hub prayed the High Court to direct the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct a fresh primary in accordance with democratic principles.

In the suit, the NDC is cited as the first defendant, the Electoral Commission as the second, and the Attorney-General as the third.
The suit further added, “An order of mandamus directed at the 2nd Defendant to refuse to accept or act upon the nomination of the said candidate unless and until a primary conducted in accordance with democratic principles is held.”

“A declaration that the parliamentary primary conducted by the 1st Defendant for the Ayawaso East Constituency, having been found to have been characterised by widespread vote buying, inducement and monetisation, did not conform to the democratic principles required under Article 55(5) of the Constitution, and that the continued reliance on the outcome thereof and the presentation of a candidate founded on that process constitute actions contrary to and inconsistent with the Constitution in violation of section 9 of the Political Parties Act, 2000 (Act 574).”

Meanwhile, a new poll by Global InfoAnalytics has predicted Baba Jamal to secure about 75% of the votes ahead of his main contender, Baba Ali of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to the poll, the New Patriotic Party’s Baba Al will trail with 21%, independent candidate Umaru Sanda Muhammed is expected to poll 3% of the vote, with other remaining candidates, Ibrahim Iddrisu and David to garner less than 1%.

The survey was conducted between February 28 and March 1, sampling 972 voters across the constituency.

The EC has scheduled the Ayawaso East by-election for March 3, 2026, the by-election has attracted heightened attention in recent days amid internal developments within the NDC, including allegations of vote buying during its parliamentary primary.

Mr Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed won the Ayawaso East Constituency primary and is set to represent the NDC as its parliamentary candidate in the March 3 by-election, following the party’s internal primary held on February 7, 2026.

After the close of polls, provisional results showed that Baba Jamal polled 431 votes out of the total votes cast, followed by the widow of the late Ayawaso MP, Naser Toure Hajia Amina Adam who secured 399 votes. Mr Mohammed Ramne, the Ayawaso East NDC Constituency Chairman, placed third with 88 votes.

Dr Yakubu Azindow obtained 45 votes, while Mr Najib Mohammed Sani recorded one vote.

The closely contested primary attracted more than 1,100 accredited delegates from across the constituency, reflecting the high stakes involved in selecting a candidate for the by-election in a seat widely regarded as a stronghold of the governing NDC.

Five aspirants contested the race: Hajia Amina Adam, Mr Baba Jamal, Dr Yakubu Azindow, who had previously contested the late MP in the 2023 primary, Mr. Mohammed Ramne, and Mr Mohammed Sani.

Although the race was initially considered open, it later narrowed into a tight contest among Mr Jamal, Hajia Amina Adam and Dr Azindow.

Even though the election was peaceful on Saturday, reports of vote buying emerged on the eve of the election and on election day, involving some candidates, including Baba Jamal, who at the time was Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria and allegedly offered television sets and other items to delegates.

Videos circulating on social media showed some delegates leaving polling centres carrying television sets and other items.Reacting to the vote-buying allegations, the NDC, in a statement signed by its Secretary, Fiifi Kwetey, announced that it would investigate the allegations.

It noted that a three-member committee had been set up to probe the matter.

In a statement issued on the same day, the NDC said its national executives had taken note of what it described as widespread incidents of inducement and vote buying allegedly perpetrated by some aspirants.
The party condemned the acts, describing them as an affront to its values and principles, and announced that it had launched investigations into the matter.

“In line with the Party’s commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and ethical political conduct, the Committee will investigate the allegations and make appropriate recommendations, including sanctions where necessary,” the statement said.

The Presidency has announced the recall of Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal, over voter inducement during the just-ended Ayawaso East primaries held on Saturday, February 7.

In a statement titled “President recalls Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria,” shared by the Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, and dated February 7, it noted that “President John Dramani Mahama has directed the immediate recall of Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed (Baba Jamal) from his position as Ghana’s High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The decision follows allegations of voter inducement during today’s National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries in the Ayawaso East Constituency, in which Mr Baba Jamal, a candidate, participated.”

The President stressed that reports of vote buying were made against several candidates seeking to win the Ayawaso East seat, but Baba Jamal stood out because he was the only serving public officer at the time, making his case a peculiar one.

“In his directive to the Minister for Foreign Affairs recalling Mr Baba Jamal as High Commissioner, the President noted that while allegations of vote-buying were made against multiple candidates who contested the primaries, Baba Jamal was the only serving public officer among them.”

Consequently, to protect the integrity of public office and to avoid any public suspicion of misconduct or violation of the Government’s Code of Conduct for Political Appointees, the President stated:

“Without prejudice to the ongoing internal party processes, and strictly in view of the standards of conduct expected of public officers, the President considers it necessary to act decisively to preserve the integrity of public office and to avoid any perception of impropriety or conflict with the Government’s Code of Conduct for Political Appointees.”

The statement continued that “the recall takes effect immediately, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs has been directed to take the necessary administrative and diplomatic steps to give effect to this directive.”

Bongo DCE, Akasake Abaa passes on after short illness

The Bongo District Chief Executive (DCE), Joseph Akasake Abaa, has been confirmed dead. The Bongo Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Tahiru Aberinga, confirmed the news in an interview on Sunday, February 22, 2026.

According to him, Joseph Akasake Abaa died on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at the Upper East Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga following a short illness. Meanwhile, the family of the deceased has yet to issue a formal statement regarding his passing.

President John Dramani Mahama appointed the late DCE  in April 2025 after he was confirmed by members of the Bongo District Assembly.

Joseph Akasake Abaa had served as an Assembly Member for Zorko-Goo-Awaah for three consecutive terms. In 2022, he held the position of Bongo Constituency Youth Organizer before later being appointed as the Constituency Secretary.

He attended Sirigu Integrated Senior High School and Zuarungu Senior High School, where he worked as a storekeeper at both institutions. Mr. Abaa’s passing has left the NDC and the people of Bongo devastated.

The party has already suffered the loss of several key figures in 2025 and early 2026, including former Greater Accra Regional Chairman Joseph Ade Coker, local communicator Nana Kwadwo Busia and Ayawaso East MP Naser Toure Mahama.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ayawaso East constituency was laid to rest on Monday, January 5. Naser Toure Mahama was reported dead on January 4, following a short illness at the Korle Bu-Teaching hospital.

As a Muslim, he is expected to be buried within 24 hours of his death; consequently, his final burial rites will be held, drawing thousands of mourners to Nima and Kanda, the heart of the constituency he served for years.

Speaking on the preparations, the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso North, Yussif Jajah, disclosed that an intervention by President John Dramani Mahama helped fast-track coordination of the administrative processes at the mortuary.

“As we speak now, we have brought the body home,” Mr Jajah said late Sunday evening, confirming that the remains had been released to the family for burial.

Naser Toure Mahama was widely regarded as a grassroots politician whose parliamentary work focused on urban renewal in Nima and youth empowerment within Zongo communities.

Last year, Ghana lost several people in power, with the last Ghana and other members of the world bid farewell to the late former first lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings.

One of the biggest losses of the state was the death of eight gallant men who died in service to the nation. They met their untimely death in a helicopter crash at Adansi on the 6th of august enroute to a programme on galamsey, a menace that is eating deep into the cloth of Ghana.

The deceased included Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator in charge of Human Security, Alhaji Muniru Limuna Mohammed; Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Samuel Sarpong; and Deputy Director-General of NADMO, Samuel Aboagye.

Others included Squadron Leader Peter Analaa of the Ghana Air Force, Flying Officer Tsum Ampadu of the Ghana Air Force, and Sergeant Ernest Addo of the Ghana Air Force.

Ghana’s entertainment industry mourned the loss of several beloved figures this year. Highlife musician Dada KD passed away after a short illness. Legendary highlife musician, Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, succumbed at the Ridge hospital, though the exact cause of his death was not publicly disclosed, but speculations attributed it to medical negligence. The film industry also suffered a blow with the death of Abdullai Tahiru, popularly known as Taidu from the Junka Town series, who died on February 9, 2025. His cause of death was not specified.

The nation also bid farewell to Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, a revered cleric, inventor, and founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission. He died peacefully on September 11, 2025, shortly after celebrating his birthday. His passing marked the end of an era for Ghana’s innovation and spiritual leadership.

The very recent death was that of rising Ghanaian boxer, Ernest Akushey aka Bahubali, who passed just 11 days after a thrashing defeat to Jacob Dickson, his opponent.

Prosecute Ken Ofori-Atta in absentia if he has committed any crime – Justin Kodua

NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua has dared the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to proceed with prosecuting former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta in absentia if they are convinced he has engaged in any criminal conduct.

Addressing the issue on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr Kodua accused the NDC of turning Mr Ofori-Atta’s absence into a political issue rather than following the appropriate legal process.

“I dare the NDC to try Ken Ofori-Atta in absentia if they believe he has committed any crime. The NPP tried Sedina Tamakloe in absentia. So if they cannot get hold of Ken, they should go ahead and try him in absentia if they have evidence and a proper case,” he stated.

He argued that making allegations in the public space without filing charges amounts to propaganda and does little to address the country’s challenges.

“They should bring the charges and take him to court. Now they are blaming Ken’s absence for everything,” Mr Kodua said.

The NPP General Secretary further maintained that the former Finance Minister has become the NDC’s main political reference point. “Ken is now their message. When people complain about water bills, they mention Ken. When you ask about unemployment, they say Ken is not in Ghana,” he noted.

He also accused the party of shifting focus away from meaningful policy discussions by centring national issues on one individual. “They should try him and stop throwing dust into the eyes of Ghanaians,” he added.

Mr Kodua stressed that the courts remain the appropriate avenue if evidence exists. “The law provides the path. If there is a case, prosecute it,” he said, underscoring the need for due process rather than political commentary.

Former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, and several other former government officials were to be charged by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) in November.

Addressing the press on Thursday, October 30, 2025, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng revealed that a detailed investigation uncovered evidence of alleged corruption-related offences involving top officials formerly affiliated with the Ministry of Finance, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML).

In the aftermath of a detailed investigation into alleged corruption and related offences, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) announced plans to charge former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, and several other former government officials by the end of November 2025.

“The outcome of the investigation is that the OSP will charge the following persons with various corruption and corruption-related offences before the end of November 2025,” the OSP said.

According to Mr Agyebeng, the OSP will charge Mr Ofori-Atta, along with Ernest Akore, former Chef de Cabinet to the former Minister of Finance, Emmanuel Kofi Nti, former Commissioner-General of the GRA, Rev Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, former Commissioner-General of the GRA, Isaac Crentsil, former Commissioner of the Customs Division of the GRA and General Manager for Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited as well as Kwadwo Damoah, former Commissioner of the Customs Division of the GRA and Member of Parliament for Jaman South.

OSP solidified its case against the contentious Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) contract, alleging that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta approved payments without any technical or operational justification.

According to the OSP, Ofori-Atta failed to intervene even though SML openly lacked the necessary capacity, expertise, and tools to execute its contract.

Instead, he allegedly remained complicit, approving payments from the Consolidated Fund, the Petroleum Revenue Account, and the Tax Refund Account.

The  OSP’s investigation concluded, “Had he not been personally benefiting from the SML’s unlawfully procured contracts, the openly displayed by SML of a lack of capacity’s expertise and tools would have immediately triggered his intervention to halt payments to SML and demand accountability. Instead, he looked on conspiratorially in silence, while endorsing and approving payments to SML from the consolidated fund, petroleum revenue account, and Tax Refund account with no technical or operational basis.” OSP said during a press conference on Thursday, October 30.

OSP’s findings exposed SML’s clear inability to perform the revenue assurance services it was contracted for, which included key responsibilities such as transaction audits and external price verification.

According to the investigation, the continuous “troubleshooting displayed during this period was born of the unlawful imposition of SML in the space and the still lingering reality of SML’s lack of capacity to carry out transaction audits and external price verification.”

Even after 15 months of engagement, SML reportedly “had no system in place to receive ccvrs” (customs control and valuation records), the essential data needed to execute its tasks.

Additionally, the existing data provider, West Blue, was under “no legal obligation to release the vital data” to SML.

As a result, the assigned work remained uncompleted, yet the company “continued to be paid,” reinforcing the OSP’s conclusion that the situation led to a financial loss to the state.

It is important to note that the former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has been declared wanted by the OSP for causing financial loss to the state in several dealings, which include the contractual arrangement between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority for the stated objective of the enhancement of revenue assurance in the downstream petroleum sector, upstream petroleum production, and minerals and metals resource value chain.

The activities of SML came to light years ago after Manasseh Azure Awuni raised contractual breaches in a deal involving Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML).

The original purpose of the GRA-SML contract was to boost revenue assurance in vital sectors of Ghana’s economy, including the downstream petroleum sector, upstream petroleum production, and the minerals and metals value chain.

The goal was to streamline revenue collection, ensuring greater transparency and efficiency in these high-revenue sectors.

Following concerns, an in-depth audit was carried out by international firm KPMG, commissioned by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The audit was launched to examine the contractual agreements between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and SML, with a particular focus on the procedures and approvals related to the contract.

The KPMG audit uncovered significant procedural errors and regulatory violations in awarding the contract. Specifically, the GRA did not obtain the required approvals from the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) and failed to seek parliamentary oversight before finalizing the agreement with SML

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) entered into six service agreements with Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) using the single-source procurement method without obtaining approval from the Public Procurement Authority (PPA).

The first agreement, covering Transaction Audit Services, was signed on June 1, 2018. This was followed by a Contract Extension on January 1, 2019.

On April 1, 2019, the GRA entered into another agreement with SML for External Price Verification Services. Subsequently, on October 3, 2019, the two parties signed a Consolidation Services Agreement, which combined the Transaction Audit and External Verification Services.

That same day, a separate agreement was also signed for the Measurement Audit of Downstream Petroleum Products. Later, on July 29, 2020, an Addendum to the Measurement Audit for Downstream Petroleum Products Agreement was executed.

The audit report also revealed that SML owes the government over GHC31 million in taxes.

During the period from 1 September 2020 to 30 April 2021, a bulk payment to SML covering invoices for an 8-month period did not have VAT and WHT deductions, amounting to GHE13.38 million.

This contradicts GRA’s standard practice of deducting such taxes for payments to SML between 1 June 2020 and 31 August 2023.

Additionally, SML failed to fulfil its statutory obligations by neither filing returns nor remitting these taxes to GRA.

Pursuant to Section 71(1) of the RA Act, the accrued interest on the tax liability is estimated at GHC18.50 million owed by SML to GRA as of 31 January 2024. Consequently, the total liability incurred by SML amounts to GHC31.88 million.

In May 2024, Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George, noted that the then Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta had a role to play in the controversial deal.

“The SML or SMEL deal is a clear example of what Justice Dotse described as a create, loot and share. One thing Ghanaians must bear in mind is that all of these happened with the tacit approval of the then Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.”

“As usual, he is trying to run under the radar and people are failing to realise, the key cardinal role he played in this entire arrangement,” he stated while speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, May 25.

In February this year, SML dragged Azure Awuni to court, claiming that Manasseh referred to its agreement with the government as “the biggest scam” and labeled the deal as “shady” while branding the entire situation “the SML scandal.”

SML was seeking several remedies from the court, including: GHS1,000,000 in general damages for defamation, GHS20,000,000 in exemplary damages for what it describes as malicious reporting, a perpetual injunction to prevent Manasseh from making further defamatory claims about the company, public retraction and apology specifically for statements made in Chapter 28 of his book and any other reliefs the court deems appropriate.

Party executives received the nomination forms from former Assin Central MP and presidential hopeful Kennedy Ohene Agyapong on Wednesday, August 27. Former Food and Agric Minister Bryan Acheampong has also filed his nomination forms.

In the meantime, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has received strong backing from 268 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), who paid him a visit in June to pledge their support.

Former Energy Minister and running mate of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 presidential candidate, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has decided to throw his weight behind Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the party’s presidential primaries in 2026.

In an interview on Asempa FM on August 26, the former minister noted that he remains grateful to the former Vice President who decided to make him his running mate despite the many individuals who advised him to do otherwise.

According to Dr Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as Napo, Dr Bawumia was engaged countless times by some bigwigs in the party to pick someone else to be his running mate.“I am not ungrateful. Look at this big party and upon all the people who were praying for the running mate slot, he ignored all of them and made me his running mate.”

“I know it was a difficult situation, but a lot of people don’t know. Some bigwigs in the party went to Dr Bawumia to tell him not to make me the running mate but he ignored them. There are some names that if I mentioned, you would be shocked. Some even took him to offices to advise him against me but still he chose me,” he remarked.

He thus said; “So, I cannot be ungrateful to him… For those who stood in the flagbearership contest, everyone knows Kennedy Agyapong is my friend, but I am still for Bawumia.”

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has made room for new additions to its already approximately 220,000 delegates who are eligible to vote in its presidential primaries slated for Saturday, January 31, next year.

In a statement dated August 26, signed and shared by the Secretary of the Presidential Elections Committee, Williams Yamoah, the party announced that registration has been opened for an additional 60,000 new delegates, which include nineteen new categories of people.

This directive follows reforms adopted at the party’s National Annual Delegates Conference held in Accra on Saturday, July 19.The statement explained: “In accordance with Article 13(1)(11) of the Constitution of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and pursuant to the motion on transitional provisions adopted at the National Annual Delegates Conference held in Accra on Saturday, July 19, 2025, the following new categories of Party officials and dignitaries have been included in the upcoming Presidential Primary voter register.”

The updated voter register, also known as the party album, will now include several new categories of officials and dignitaries. These are all former regional and constituency executives, members of the National Council of Elders, 30 members of the National Council of Patrons, all past national officers, former party-card-bearing MPs and parliamentary candidates, as well as former party-card-bearing ministers and deputy ministers.

Other groups added to the list are external branch executives, former external branch executives, and key members of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON), including presidents of recognised institutions, the National TESCON Coordinator, regional coordinators, and one TESCON patron from each institution.

Additionally, 10 members from each Regional Council of Elders, 10 patrons from each region, and five members and patrons from each constituency have also been included.

The statement directed that “all officers that fall under the categories above are requested to register their names with their respective organisational structures, including the National Secretariat, Regions, Constituencies and External Branches, as applicable, with immediate effect.”

To make the registration process easier, the statement clarified that a digital link would be circulated to External Branch Executives for online registration. All other qualified members were advised to liaise with their respective regions and constituencies to register.

However, the forms are to be accessed via the party’s official website.“The registration form may be downloaded from the Party’s official website. For ease of reference, a sample copy is hereby attached,” excerpts of the statement read.

The statement further warned that the registration was strictly for the aforementioned categories of people, with a deadline set for Friday, September 19.

“The deadline for registration is Friday, September 19, 2025. Please be advised that this registration exercise is exclusively open to officers and members who meet the aforementioned criteria. The Presidential Elections Committee shall undertake a comprehensive verification and validation of the Party’s album to ensure that only an authentic and credible register is used for the conduct of the presidential election,” the party cautioned, while expressing confidence in members’ cooperation.

“We count on your usual cooperation and adherence to this directive in furtherance of the Party’s commitment to fairness, inclusiveness, and transparency.”

The NPP is on a journey of reset, reinforcement, and healing following its historic defeat in the 2024 elections. Dr. Bawumia lost the 2024 presidential election, with John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) securing 6,328,397 valid votes, representing 56.55%, against Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61%.

Since the beginning of this year, the party has undertaken several reforms to position itself strongly against its main opponent, the NDC, and to recapture power.

Among these reforms is the abolition of the electoral college in favour of a broader base of delegates. The party has also added 19 new delegate categories and granted amnesty to suspended members. The party’s suspended members have been reinstated, and all charges against those facing the disciplinary committee have been dropped.

the National Council decided during an emergency meeting held on July 25. In a statement dated August 16 and signed by the Acting National Chairman of the Party, Mr. Danquah Smith Buttey, members were informed that, as part of measures to ensure unity and cooperation, all banned members had been given the right to return.

“This measure reflects the Party’s unwavering commitment to fostering internal cohesion, strengthening solidarity, and preparing collectively for the political tasks ahead. I write to inform you that the National Council, at its Emergency Meeting held on Friday, July 25, 2025, resolved, in the interest of unity and reconciliation, to grant a General Amnesty to all Party members who have been suspended or whose disciplinary cases are currently pending before the appropriate disciplinary bodies,” parts of the statement read.

The party further urged all relevant bodies, including Regional and Constituency Executive Committees, to reinstate suspended members in accordance with laid-down rules and guiding principles.

“We hereby serve notice that this directive lifts all such suspensions and nullifies any ongoing proceedings against affected members,” the statement added.

However, the party clarified that this recall does not apply to members who willfully forfeited their membership. In cases where such individuals wish to return, they are required to submit a formal reinstatement request to the party’s secretariat. Upon acceptance, a two-year ban will be imposed, preventing them from contesting in any internal elections.

  • One dead as bees swarm NDC supporters in Kpandai

One dead as bees swarm NDC supporters in Kpandai

A bee attack on supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Kpandai District after a campaign programme on Sunday, December 14, has claimed the life of an individual.

The deceased has been identified as a chief from one of the communities in the district. He is said to have been attacked by the bees while riding a motorbike after the campaign had concluded.

This information was disclosed by the NDC’s Secretary for the Kpandai Constituency, Mr. Robert. Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

The development in Kpandai comes at a time when the area is gearing up for a rerun of the 2024 parliamentary election. According to the Electoral Commission (EC), the exercise will take place on Tuesday, December 30.

Only the three (3) candidates who participated in the 2024 Parliamentary Election in the constituency will contest, according to a press release dated December 10 by the Deputy Director at the Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Department of the EC.

“The Electoral Commission wishes to inform the General Public that following the Tamale High Court’s ruling on Monday, 24th November, 2025, ordering a rerun of the ‘Kandai Constituency Parliamentary Election within thirty (30) days’ and upon receipt of a letter from the Clerk to Parliament on Tuesday, 9th December, 2025, formally notifying the Commission of the occurrence of a vacancy in the Membership of Parliament, the seat of the Constituency in Parliament has become vacant.

“The Electoral Commission will hold a rerun of the Parliamentary Election in the Kpandai Constituency on Tuesday, 30th December, 2025.

“The rerun of the Kandai Constituency Parliamentary Election will be conducted for only the three (3) candidates who contested the 2024 Parliamentary Election in the said Constituency,” part of the statement read.

Meanwhile, the Minority in Parliament has opposed the court ruling declaring the vacancy of the Kpandai constituency parliamentary seat in the Northern Region null.

The Tamale High Court declared the Kpandai parliamentary election conducted in 2024 invalid on Monday, November 24. As a result, His Lordship Emmanuel Brew Plange directed the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct a new poll in the constituency within 30 days.

But addressing the media on Tuesday, December 9, Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh noted, “Mr Speaker, there is a letter that was sent into the House to declare the Kpandai seat vacant. That letter is out of place, unfortunate, and goes against the rule of law. We strongly submit that the letter must be withdrawn by Parliament. We in the Minority will not agree to the writing of this letter”.

However, the candidate at the centre of the Kpandai election challenge, Matthew Nyindam, has disclosed that the 2024 parliamentary election in the area was conducted in a free and fair manner.

Despite the High Court directing a re-run of the election, Matthew Nyindam insisted that he and his team did not engage in any wrongdoing and are prepared to face the re-run.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, December 9, he noted, “I am so fine because I am not troubled. We’ve not cheated in this particular election. What I’ve realised is that there is a government that is so strong, and whatever they want to do, they will want to do it. They don’t care whether you are right or you are wrong.”

Earlier this year, the former Member of Parliament (MP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Kpandai, Daniel Nsala Wakpal, submitted a petition to the Tamale High Court challenging the results of the 2024 parliamentary election in the constituency.

According to the petitioner, the Kpandai parliamentary election was marred by irregularities in the voting and collation processes. He argued that Pink Sheets from many polling stations were inaccurate or inconsistent.

He stated: “The parliamentary election held in the Kpandai constituency on 7th December, 2024 was not conducted in compliance with Regulation 39 of the Public Elections Regulations, 2020 (C.I. 127) and the principles laid down by Regulation 39, and that the said non-compliance affected the results of the elections.

“The declaration and publication of the parliamentary election results held in the Kpandai constituency on 7th December, 2024 were not made in compliance with Regulation 43 of the Public Elections Regulations, 2020 (C.I. 127) and the principles laid down by Regulation 43, and that the said non-compliance affected the entire results of the parliamentary elections in the Kpandai constituency.”

But Matthew Nyindam has argued that, “The Parliamentary Election Petition filed by the 1st Interested Party on 25th January, 2025, in respect of the Parliamentary Election held at the Kpandai Constituency on 7th December, 2024, was invalid and could not have properly invoked the jurisdiction of the High Court, Commercial Division, Tamale.”

This will be the second time the country has had a re-run of elections after the 2024 general polls. Ablekuma North remained the only constituency in Ghana without a sitting MP due to unresolved disagreements over the outcome of the parliamentary vote.

The Electoral Commission on Friday, July 11, held a re-run election in 19 polling stations in Ablekuma North to provide constituents with a representative. Ewurabena Aubynn polled 34,090 votes to beat the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Akua Afriyie, who secured 33,881 votes.

On December 10, 2024, three days after the national polls, the EC declared Ewurabena Aubynn of the NDC the winner of the Ablekuma North parliamentary seat, defeating the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Nana Akua Owusu Afriyieh.

However, the EC later revoked the announcement, revealing that results from 62 of the 281 polling stations had not been included in the initial collation.

Efforts to restart the collation in January 2025 were disrupted by multiple challenges. These included interruptions due to the submission of unverified Pink Sheets and a violent intrusion at the collation centre that heightened security concerns.

After extensive deliberations, the Electoral Commission announced in July that it would hold a re-run election because the 19 scanned polling station results used for collation, although approved by agents of both political parties, had not been verified by the presiding officers responsible for those polling stations.

The EC arrived at this decision after meeting with representatives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Tuesday, July 1.

  • Presidential jets: It’s all verbal acrobatics

Presidential jets: It’s all verbal acrobatics

Has anyone noticed how holy, wise and caring the NPP and NDC become when they are in opposition? Suddenly, they have all the answers. Constitutional experts had them in mind when they said that “in Parliament, the Opposition criticises everything and proposes nothing.”

But our situation in Ghana is worse. The opposition becomes holier-than-thou. It is always from opposition parties that we hear the expression, “profligate expenditure”.

On October 2, 2021, the National Democratic Congress, through its Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, said as follows: “I want to submit very forcefully that the decision by the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia NPP government to buy a new presidential jet is a misplaced priority and will amount to a waste of the public purse if allowed.”

He was reacting to the NPP government’s decision to procure a new presidential jet.

But Mr Sammy Gyamfi would hear none of this. “If President Akufo-Addo and Bawumia cared about the sufferings of Ghanaians, they would not even think of buying a presidential jet at this time.”

Fast forward to November 13, 2025. The NDC is in power. Its Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, in presenting the 2026 Budget in Parliament, announced that the government “will, beginning in 2026, commence procurement processes for the acquisition of four modern helicopters, one long-range aircraft and one medium-range aircraft to strengthen the operational efficiency of the Ghana Air Force. “

In reaction, hear the language of the NPP Minority. Through Reverend John Ntim Fourdjour, MP for Assin South, the NPP described it “as a misplaced priority at a time of economic hardship.” The NPP said the decision “reflects insensitivity to the prevailing economic challenges.”

Back to September 2021. To a disclosure by the then MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, that the President’s travel to Germany with a private jet cost $14,000 per hour, the then NPP Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul, said the existing jet was not fit for purpose.

“NO PRESIDENT CAN SHOWER IN THIS AIRCRAFT,” he said, adding, HE CANNOT MOVE FROM THIS AIRCRAFT STRAIGHT INTO A MEETING”

A worse insult was to come. Even as the then Defence Minister spoke of the presidential jet not being in functional use, news broke that the Falcon jet had been lent to Liberian President George Oppong Weah for his trips outside Liberia.

As a journalist, Yours Truly sincerely hoped that this disclosure would be denied. It wasn’t. All that the then NPP government said was that “it is a normal practice for countries to lend their aircraft to other Heads of State”.

In 2008, Kufuor bought the Falcon 900, which was delivered in 2010 when he was no longer the President. In 2021, NDC’s President Mills inaugurated the new aircraft and flew in it. In justification, the Deputy Information Minister, Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa explained that the NDC did not oppose the purchase of the aircraft but did not support the idea of buying two aircraft at a time.

Sounds familiar? Sounds like an expression you heard from NPP Parliamentarians this week?

Away from Presidential jets and all their hoo-haws, I have other worries. In tough times, African nations are at their most vulnerable because coup plotters are on the prowl. Every unguarded utterance seems to be an invitation to groups of desperadoes with access to arms to begin plotting.

That is why I want to plead with our civilian politicians, especially Parliamentarians, to pipe down on some of their rhetoric.

A case in point is the reaction of Minority Leader Afenyo Markin to the ruling by a Tamale High Court, which this week ordered a rerun of the Kpandai parliamentary election.

To slam the “kangaroo judicial system Ghana now has” shows an adult who could not control his emotions.

The Tamale High Court on Monday, November 24, 2025, ordered a complete rerun of the December 7, 2024, Kpandai parliamentary election within 30 days. The ruling followed a petition by an NDC candidate challenging the victory of the NPP candidate.

Afenyo Markin criticised the judiciary for what he described as “actions and inactions that serve the interests of their paymasters”. My question to him is: can judges, as humans, not err? Must every error amount to “serving the interests of paymasters”?

I remind Afenyo that there are seniors of his who were confronted with worse legal provocations but remained calm. One is Akufo-Addo. The former President, in his reaction to the ruling of the Supreme Court in the 2012 election petition, which he lost, simply said, “While I disagree with the court’s decision, I accept it” That was statesmanship. That was maturity.

If that example is too far off to be recalled, Afenyo Markin should listen to a playback of the reaction of Speaker Bagbin in his (Afenyo’s) suit at the Supreme Court in 2014.

Afenyo describes the Tamale judge as doing the bidding of a “paymaster”. The question is, was Justice Torkonoo doing the bidding of a “paymaster” when she empanelled the Supreme Court within two hours to hear his (Afenyo Markin’s) suit? All Alban Bagbin did was file an application asking the Supreme Court to overturn its decision.

Meanwhile, on October 18, 2024, hear the words of Afenyo-Markin (then the Majority Leader) after the Supreme Court ruling against the Speaker. He challenged the Minority in Parliament to “pursue a legal course if they believe they have a solid case regarding the recent parliamentary dispute.”

    Easier said.

Omane Boamah’s life was defined by courage, intellect, and unyielding dedication to justice – NDC

The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has paid a heartwarming tribute to the late Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah at the state funeral held at the Black Star Square today, Friday, August 15.

According to the party, “Dr. Omane Boamah’s life was defined by courage, intellect, and unyielding dedication to justice.”

The party noted that from his earliest days as a student leader as the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) President, his leadership was already evident.

“He stood up to the NPP government… and pursued it with relentless vigour. For this, he became a thorn in the side of his political opponents, enduring hostility and pressure with unflinching resolve,” the tribute added.

Dr Omane Boamah served as the Director of Elections for the NDC. His dedication and hard work helped ensure the return of President John Mahama following the 2024 presidential election.

“As Director of Elections, he brought unmatched dynamism to the organisation of campaigns, training of polling agents, and election
monitoring. He mobilised resources, prepared the Party’s grassroots with military precision, and oversaw the work of the Electoral Commission with the vigilance of an eagle.”

“Brilliant, strategic, and utterly fearless, Dr. Omane Boamah was more than a political strategist, he was a fighter for democracy, a compassionate human being, a man generous in spirit and quick
to lend a helping hand. His rare blend of intellect, empathy, and resilience made him a treasure to our Party and nation,” the party added.

The widow, Rite Omane Boamah, wife of the late Defence Minister Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, also eulogised her partner as the country bids farewell to the eight fallen heroes who lost their lives in a helicopter crash on August 6 while on national assignment.

In a tribute read on her behalf, the widow noted that the late Dr Omane Boamah as a “loving and perfect father.”

Dr Omane Boamah, who was a doctor and a politician prior to his death, always juggled his work and home responsibilities. He was dedicated to taking care of his home, particularly his three children.

“Despite your busy schedule, you either bathed the children every morning or dressed them while I bathed them. You were their favourite teacher, knowing their syllabus back to back and making time for both study and play,” she said.

Prior to his demise, Dr Omane always sought to find out from his wife what she would do should there come a day he is not around.

“I never answered you, and till today I don’t have an answer,” the widow revealed in her tribute.

She promised to take care of her late husband’s mother, her mother-in-law and their three children.

“I will, with God’s help, take care of mummy and our three kids, knowing you will be looking down on us from the heavens. Kofi B, thank you for loving me, thank you for loving the children, thank you for loving my family and all who came to know you. Rest in power, my love,” she added.

Yaw Obimpeh triumphs with 49 votes in Ashanti Regional Council of State election

Former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, has secured a resounding victory in the Ashanti Regional Council of State election, obtaining 49 votes.

The announcement, made on Monday, February 17, 2025, revealed that Obimpeh led by a considerable margin. Nkansah Boadu Nana Ayeboafo received 35 votes, while Daniel Anarfi Yamoah received a single vote. No votes were cast for the other candidates.

Out of 86 anticipated votes, 85 were valid, with no ballots rejected. This result indicates a strong backing for Obimpeh from voters in the Ashanti Region.

The election follows the suspension of an earlier vote last week after disruptions occurred during the initial election process.

Police must reassess tactics to manage post-election violence – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has called on the Ghana Police Service to review its approach to handling post-election violence.

Following the 2024 general elections, incidents of violence, including damage to public property and Electoral Commission (EC) offices, were reported, with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters allegedly involved.

The President expressed concern over these events and urged the police to implement more effective strategies to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

During the launch of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana’s Bicentennial Anniversary on December 22, 2024, at Osu Castle, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of safeguarding the country’s democracy.

He stressed that peace and order are crucial to maintaining Ghana’s democratic values and national stability.

“I commended the security service, especially the police for the effective monitoring of the elections which ensured a peaceful nature. But I would like to ask the leadership of the police to review its practices that allow post-electoral violence to linger for too long before it’s brought under control.”

The President emphasized the crucial role of Ghanaians in safeguarding the country’s peace and ensuring its stability.

“As a nation, we must be resolute in our commitment to safeguarding peace, stability and democratic values that we have worked so hard to establish.”

I’ll deal with you ‘ruthlessly’ – Mahama warns galamseyers

Former President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the upcoming 2024 elections, has pledged to take decisive action against illegal mining, known as galamsey, if re-elected on December 7, 2024.

In a recent meeting with religious leaders in Accra on October 1, 2024, Mahama unveiled his strategy for tackling the environmental damage caused by illegal small-scale mining. His proposal includes conducting a thorough audit of all mining concessions to pinpoint beneficial owners, who would be held accountable for any illegal activities in their areas.

Mahama emphasized that his administration would prohibit new mining leases in forest reserves and strengthen regulations surrounding mining operations near water bodies, advocating for stricter penalties for violations through amendments to the Minerals and Mining Law.

“We will compel small-scale miners to undertake skills training in modern responsible methods and land reclamation techniques as part of their operations to minimize environmental harm,” Mahama noted.

He also plans to introduce initiatives like “Tree for Life and Blue Water” aimed at restoring polluted waterways and rehabilitating degraded lands.

Additionally, he asserted that all public officials, including politicians, would be barred from engaging in any form of mining, whether legal or illegal. Mahama proposed that small-scale miners undergo training in modern, responsible mining techniques and land reclamation practices to reduce environmental impacts.

Beyond addressing mining issues, Mahama discussed enhancing the implementation of the Free Senior High School (SHS) program. He suggested establishing a dedicated funding source, eliminating the double-track system, and decentralizing food procurement to ensure quality education for all students.

Election 2024: I would lift you from poverty – Mahama tells Ghanaians

John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to lead an administration that ensures every Ghanaian has access to food and basic necessities.

Speaking at the Sekondi Methodist Park during the 40th anniversary celebration of the Christian Faith Church International, he emphasized his vision of elevating the nation through focused economic development rooted in industrialization, aimed at fostering growth and shared prosperity.

“We will lift our people out of poverty and ensure that no Ghanaian goes to bed hungry,” he told a large crowd gathered at the Sekondi Methodist Park to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Christian Faith Church International.

Mahama envisions a Ghana where no citizen is marginalized, guaranteeing equal access to opportunities for all, especially children who should have access to quality education. He believes every family deserves the dignity of decent work and safe living conditions.

A key element of his campaign is the “24-hour economy model,” which he described as central to the NDC’s 2024 election manifesto. This model aims to empower the youth, boost productivity, and increase exports while reducing reliance on imports, ultimately helping to stabilize the currency.

Through initiatives like industrial growth, agricultural modernization, and support for small businesses, Mahama aims to rejuvenate the economy and create job opportunities.

He asserts that with the right leadership, Ghanaians can reclaim their sense of dignity and security in providing for their families, stating, “Our people deserve to smile again.”

To realize this vision, Mahama called for the collective effort of all Ghanaians and promised to offer responsible and accountable leadership that prioritizes transparency and accountability in governance.

  • NDC is sponsoring Democracy Hub demo, don’t be deceived – Gideon Boako

NDC is sponsoring Democracy Hub demo, don’t be deceived – Gideon Boako

Gideon Boako, spokesperson for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has warned the public against being misled by what he perceives as a covert effort by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to stir discontent towards the government following the recent Democracy Hub protest.

Boako claimed that while the demonstration focused on illegal mining (galamsey), it serves a deeper political agenda aimed at destabilizing the current administration. During an interview with Peace FM on September 27, he emphasized that the timing of the protest occurring just months before the elections—suggests an intention to sway public opinion against the government for political gain.

He argued that although the issue of illegal mining is indeed serious, the NDC’s participation indicates motives beyond genuine environmental concern. Instead of utilizing protests to undermine the government, Boako urged stakeholders to engage in meaningful discussions to collaboratively tackle the problem.

He cautioned citizens to remain vigilant about political figures who mask their true agendas under social or environmental pretenses, asserting that such strategies only create division and hinder progress in addressing the nation’s challenges.

“Don’t be deceived by the NDC’s latent attempt to hide behind those protesters to cause public disaffection to the government. They are politically motivated to do anything to get a back name for the government to achieve their political agenda.”

“Perish the thought should NDC come to power, should NDC come to power, all these guys leading the demonstration will have appointments in government.”

Why didn’t you join ‘#Enough is Enough’ demo with your family? – Anyidoho quizzes Mahama

Samuel Koku Anyidoho, a former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has questioned why former President John Dramani Mahama, the NDC’s flagbearer, was absent from the ‘Enough is Enough’ protest held by the party on September 17.

In a post on his X account, Anyidoho criticized Mahama and his family for not participating in the demonstration, accusing them of staying away while encouraging others to protest.

“So, after inciting NDC supporters onto the streets, JM and his family stayed at home huh? The monkeys should go and die for the baboons to stay alive and walk on blood to power huh? We live to see. Ghana shall NOT die.”

He expressed his frustration with a statement suggesting that the sacrifices of the protesters might be in vain.

The NDC’s demonstration was aimed at demanding an overhaul of the voter register to ensure credible elections.

National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia emphasized the importance of a transparent electoral process and warned of the threats facing Ghana’s democracy.

After the protest, Mahama addressed the issue on his X platform, highlighting that the demonstration was not merely about calling for an audit but was also about upholding justice, fairness, and democratic rights.

He urged the Electoral Commission to maintain the trust Ghanaians have placed in it.

Mahama also expressed gratitude to the NDC supporters and executives for their participation and reiterated the need for a transparent electoral process as he continued his campaign tour in the Ahafo Region.

  • I don’t regret joining NDC – Mr. Beautiful

I don’t regret joining NDC – Mr. Beautiful

Ghanaian actor and comedian Mr. Beautiful has expressed that he does not regret his decision to back the National Democratic Congress (NDC), despite facing challenges as a result.

He revealed that although he experienced exclusion from the Kumawood film industry and criticism from fellow actors for his political stance, he received support and warmth from John Mahama’s family during these difficult times.

“I have not regretted because the family I joined is a unique family. They are very unique people so even if President Mahama that I declared my support if he’s not there, the brothers are…President Mahama added me to the family when I was going through those things.

“When the people were intimidating and sidelining me, he added me to the family so I have a unique family,” he stated.

Mr. Beautiful shared that even if President Mahama were no longer in office, he values the support and sense of belonging he received from the Mahama family.

This sense of community was particularly important to him when he faced intimidation and ostracism.

He recounted an incident where he lost a TV commercial opportunity due to his political affiliation.

While in South Africa, he was informed by his manager that a commercial project was available.

However, upon his return to Ghana and arrival at the shoot location, the Marketing Director refused to work with him because of his NDC support, leading to his flight back without the job.

Additionally, Mr. Beautiful noted that some of his colleagues distanced themselves from him to avoid complications with their own political affiliations.

“I remember I was in South Africa then my manager told me that some project. They wanted me to do a TV commercial for them. I told them I was ready.

“I flew to Ghana and got to the location. When the Marketing Director came, he said but this is Mr Beautiful, I cannot work with him, he supports NDC. And I said okay, no problem then fly me back so he flew me back,” he shared.

“Even my own colleagues distanced themselves from me because when they go to the other side [NPP] they won’t accept them,” he added.

We are fighting for peace, not war! – Asiedu Nketia on voter register audit

Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Asiedu Nketia, has emphasized the party’s commitment to maintaining peace through transparent and credible elections.

Addressing supporters during the NDC’s “Enough is Enough” demonstration, Nketia declared that the party’s efforts to audit the voter register are aimed at preventing electoral disputes, which could lead to unrest.

Nketia underscored the importance of citizen participation in defending democratic values. “Democracy alone does not guarantee itself; it is the democratic-minded citizens who are ready to fight for their rights and for democracy. Today is our time to stand firm. We must not fail our ancestors or future generations. We must fight for peace, not war,” he stated, adding that addressing the root causes of potential conflict is essential to avoid unrest.

“To avoid war, we must address and eliminate factors that could lead to it. There is no room for complacency, we must not allow the country to drift into turmoil,”  he declared.

Nketia also called on the Electoral Commission to heed the demands of Ghanaians and conduct an audit of the voter register.

He asserted, “In our democracy, we demand nothing less than transparent elections, which guarantee our right to choose our leaders. Every democracy faces challenges, and Ghana’s democracy is currently under serious threat. However, we are determined to overcome this. The resilience of Ghana’s democracy lies in its ability to confront tyranny and uphold democratic values.”

Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Dr Ernest Adu Gyamfi urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to allow the Electoral Commission (EC) to clean-up the voters’ register before demanding a forensic audit.

Rev. Dr Ernest Adu Gyamfi explained that it would be of the best interest if the NDC waits for the EC to correct the errors identified in the register and publish the final voters’ register before making any demands.

The EC had previously denied the NDC’s request for a forensic audit and instead called for a meeting to address their concerns.

In an interview on 3FM, Rev. Dr. Gyamfi advised the NDC to engage in discussions with the EC, rather than airing grievances publicly.

  • CAF’s stadium ban on Ghana a big disgrace! – Mahama

CAF’s stadium ban on Ghana a big disgrace! – Mahama

Former President and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has strongly condemned the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) decision to ban the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, calling it a national disgrace.

The ban has left Ghana’s Black Stars unable to host matches at home due to poor pitch conditions.

Mahama expressed his frustration over the government’s failure to maintain the stadium, which he believes led to the ban. He described the situation as unprecedented in Ghana’s history, highlighting the humiliation of the national team being forced to play at neutral venues.

“CAF says the national team won’t play a match in Ghana again. This is a big disgrace to Ghana. The first time in the history of Ghana that CAF is saying there is no certified stadium we can play a match on,” Mahama remarked.

The former president also criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for alleged mismanagement of funds allocated for sports infrastructure. He pointed to a specific instance involving $85 million, which was meant for the rehabilitation of stadiums for the All African Games, suggesting the money had been squandered.

“Athletes came in for the All African Games and stayed in Ghana for only 15 days. They used $15 million just to prepare food for them. So, they mean every day they spent one million dollars to feed the athletes? No, some things, if you hear, it’s sad,” Mahama stated.

His comments reflect a broader concern over the government’s handling of national sports resources and the impact on Ghana’s reputation on the international stage.

CAF’s decision to ban the Baba Yara Stadium was based on several factors, including poor drainage, uneven pitch, and inadequate grass cover. Following the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier between Ghana and Angola, CAF withdrew approval for the stadium.

In response, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has tasked the Ghana Football Association (GFA) with inviting CAF officials to inspect other potential venues, including the Accra Sports Stadium and Legon Stadium, to see if they meet the necessary standards to host future Black Stars matches.

No NDC member would attempt to engage in illegal mining operations – Afriyie Ankrah

Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Manifesto Committee, has assured Ghanaians that the party is firmly opposed to illegal mining activities.

As a former Minister for Youth and Sports, he emphasized the NDC’s dedication to safeguarding Ghana’s environment, particularly its forests and water bodies.

Afriyie Ankrah cautioned party members against engaging in illegal mining, stressing that such actions would not be tolerated under an NDC administration.

“We need to suspend all galamsey activities for at least one year to give our water bodies and forest reserves breathing space to recover. I investigated the GYEEDA Scandal with an independent body and I can promise that any member of my party who engages in galamsey will be investigated and prosecuted,” he told Nana Kwadwo Jantuah on Nhyira FM on Thursday.

He advocated for a one-year suspension of all galamsey activities to allow the environment to recover.

He also highlighted his role in the investigation of the GYEEDA scandal and assured that any NDC member involved in illegal mining would face investigation and prosecution.

He criticized the current government for its inadequate response to the galamsey issue, alleging that it has been exacerbated by a deliberate effort to worsen the situation.

“Nana Addo’s government over the past eight years has failed to sufficiently combat this galamsey menace because it is a deliberate and organised scheme to make it worse. He refused to act on several reports on illegal mining; an example is that of Professor Frimpong Boateng.

“The president ignored all the reports because a lot of his appointees are reported to have been involved in the illegality,” he said.

He accused President Nana Addo of neglecting numerous reports on illegal mining, including one by Professor Frimpong Boateng, due to involvement by some of his appointees in these activities.

Afriyie Ankrah suggested that the failure to address illegal mining should be a compelling reason for voters to reject the ruling NPP, pointing out the threat galamsey poses to livelihoods and the environment.

“Any Ghanaian who has no reason to vote against this government should look at galamsey which is a threat to their livelihood,” he stated.

Ataa Ayi cannot suffer for crime of theft alone, NPP must also suffer – Basintale

Malik Basintale, Deputy Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for their handling of the country’s economy.

Speaking with Accra-based GHOne TV, Basintale accused NPP officials of mismanaging the economy and inflating figures for developmental projects.

According to Basintale, significant sums of money intended for development have been misappropriated.

He asserted that if the NDC, led by John Mahama, comes to power, corrupt NPP officials will be held accountable.

“Under Mahama, all corrupt NPP officials will be brought to justice. The NPP has falsely advertised many developmental projects as complete, but the truth will come out. Not only Atta Ayi will suffer for his crimes of theft, NPP must suffer,” Malik Basintale stated.

Cedi depreciation unacceptable, you should have resigned from office – Mahama to Akufo-Addo

John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress‘s (NDC) flagbearer, has sharply criticized President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over the Ghanaian cedi’s steep depreciation.

Speaking at a rally in Nkwabeng, Nkwanta South District, during his tour of Bono East Region, Mahama expressed his dissatisfaction with the current exchange rate, which has surpassed 15 cedis per dollar.

Mahama questioned President Akufo-Addo’s assertion that the economic conditions are better now than under the previous NDC government, which experienced single-digit inflation.

He pointed out that during the Atta Mills administration, the exchange rate was GH¢2 per dollar. Under Akufo-Addo, it rose from GH¢4 to GH¢16 per dollar over nearly eight years in office.

Mahama argued that the President should have resigned when the cedi depreciated to GH¢16 per dollar, criticizing the justification of the current economic situation.

He highlighted the difficulty in comparing GH¢16 to a dollar with GH¢4 to a dollar and noted the sharp increase in the cost of basic goods like cement.

“It is hard to see how GH¢16 to a dollar can be considered better than GH¢4 to a dollar, even the prices of basic goods like cement have skyrocketed,” Mahama stated.

I don’t mind NDC using my song despite being an NPP member – Philipa Baafi

Ghanaian gospel artist Philipa Baafi has expressed openness to allowing her new track, “It’s Possible,” to be used by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), despite her affiliation with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Although her song complements the campaign slogan of NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Baafi mentioned she would not oppose its use by both her party and the opposition.

She highlighted that once a song is released, it becomes public property.

Additionally, Baafi commended the Akufo-Addo administration for implementing the Free SHS policy, praising its positive effects.

She asserted that even if the government has achieved little else, this policy alone is a strong reason for Ghanaians to support the NPP in future elections.

“The Free SHS policy is highly commendable. Even if the government hasn’t accomplished anything else, I believe Ghanaians should consider voting for the NPP government again based on this achievement,” she stated.

  • Analysis of NPP, NDC manifestos for Ghana’s creative arts sector

Analysis of NPP, NDC manifestos for Ghana’s creative arts sector

On August 24, 2024, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) launched its manifesto for the upcoming December 7 elections, following the governing New Patriotic Party‘s (NPP) earlier release.

Both parties emphasize enhancing the creative arts and tourism sectors through government support, but they adopted different strategies.

    NDC’s Plans:

The NDC’s agenda, part of its broader “Resetting Ghana” initiative, aims to overhaul struggling sectors by focusing on reforming financing and attracting investments in creative arts and tourism. Their approach includes support for content creators and enterprises of all sizes, along with policies to promote Ghanaian creativity through initiatives like “The Black Star Experience,” a year-round celebration of Ghanaian culture.

The NDC also plans to enforce local content broadcasting, enhance infrastructure with projects like an ultra-modern recreation village, and establish a management system for effective royalty collection.

    NPP’s Plans:

The NPP, on the other hand, emphasizes continuing successful initiatives like the “Year of Return” while adding new strategies to boost the sector. Their approach focuses on leveraging the Development Bank Ghana (DBG) to support the sector, offering tax incentives to attract private investments, and promoting cultural heritage through a dedicated fund.

The NPP also plans to enhance infrastructure, including completing a conference facility and establishing a National Hospitality Training School.

Additionally, they aim to boost travel with a Travel Protocol Service (TPS) for creatives and an e-visa policy to attract more visitors.

    Comparative Analysis:

The NDC’s “Black Star Experience” centers on cultural celebrations, while the NPP focuses on infrastructure, financing, and policy changes.

The NDC leans more toward public sector-driven initiatives, while the NPP emphasizes private sector involvement.

Both parties prioritize job creation and skills development, but the NPP offers more concrete initiatives like creative hubs and specialized training programs.

    Which Plan Might Succeed?

The NPP’s focus on international engagement and private sector involvement could give it an edge, with practical policies aimed at increasing tourism and revenue.

However, the NDC’s strategy of building a strong foundation for the creative arts sector through public investment and cultural heritage promotion could have lasting benefits.

    Conclusion:

Both parties present ambitious plans for Ghana’s creative arts and tourism sectors, with distinct approaches.

The success of either plan will depend on effective implementation, the sector’s response, and the ability to adapt to evolving conditions.

  • We’ll provide a credible voter register – EC to NDC

We’ll provide a credible voter register – EC to NDC

The Electoral Commission (EC) has committed to a comprehensive voter exhibition process to ensure a reliable voter register for the December elections.

This pledge comes in response to the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s call for the immediate release of the provisional voter register ahead of the scheduled exhibition.

Dr. Boamah, the NDC’s Director of Elections, criticized the EC on Facebook, accusing them of delaying the release of the register due to incompetence and suggesting a deliberate effort to present a flawed register to political parties.

He expressed concern that this delay could potentially lead to significant unrest if not addressed promptly.

“deeply concerned that the posturing and incompetence of the EC and its IT Department can plunge Ghana into anarchy if not remedied immediately.”

In a counterstatement on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Dr. Serebuor Quaicoe, the EC’s Director of Training, dismissed these allegations.

He urged the NDC and other stakeholders to be patient and participate in the exhibition process, which will address any issues and ensure a high-quality final register.

“Why would we fight the same people who are going to help us do the work? We all know the quantum of work to be done…So, they should understand it and once we give it to them, they and the voters and everybody will help to contribute and by the time we finish the eight-day exhibition, we will identify all the challenges and rectify them.

“They should all expect that when everything is done we will give them the final register. So, we will do good work and give them the final register which will be a quality register,” he stated.

Dr. Quaicoe emphasized the importance of collaboration, noting that the EC is committed to delivering a reliable final register after the eight-day exhibition period, which will allow for the correction of any identified problems.

I declined NDC youth manifesto launch invitation, I was given questions to ask – Sheldon claims

At the National Democratic Congress‘s (NDC) town hall meeting held at the Bukom Arena, the event drew a notable crowd that included politicians, media figures like Bernard Avle and Umaru Sanda, as well as social media influencers such as Kalyjay and SDK.

Following the event, social media was abuzz with reactions, and prominent influencer Kwadwo Sheldon joined the discussion with a controversial claim.

He alleged that the NDC had extended an invitation to him but that he declined because they intended to provide predetermined questions for him to ask John Mahama, the party’s Flagbearer.

“You know what be funny about this? They invited me for the Bukom thing on condition that they will give me the question to ask JDM..said it’s either my personal questions or nah…be like they weren’t interested in that so I played FIFA.

“I was told on the phone I was going to be given a question to ask the former president.. that’s what I was told!!” he wrote.

Sheldon expressed his discontent online, stating that he was informed by phone that he would be given a specific question to pose to Mahama, which he found unappealing. Instead of participating, he chose to spend his time playing FIFA.

He further suggested that many influencers present at the event accepted these conditions but have remained silent about it.

“Most of your influencers here know about what I’m talking about tho… They know! And it goes beyond just the questions but hey we move,” he stated.

His allegations sparked a backlash from the NDC camp.

Supporters questioned the notion that John Mahama would impose restrictions on Kwadwo Sheldon while engaging openly with well-known journalists like Bernard Avle and Umaru Sanda.

NDC youth activist Perry challenged Sheldon to substantiate his claims.

He accused Sheldon of spreading falsehoods to create controversy and demanded proof of any arrangement involving predetermined questions.

Perry dismissed Sheldon’s allegations as a misleading attempt to discredit the event and advised against any future participation of Sheldon’s team in NDC activities.

We can’t produce much content due to high data costs, slow internet speed – SDK

At a recent Town Hall meeting hosted by the National Democratic Congress, renowned skit maker SDK expressed his frustration with the severe challenges faced by content creators in Ghana.

He highlighted the dramatic increase in internet data costs and persistently slow connectivity as major hurdles impacting their work.

SDK, who has been deeply affected by these issues, shared how the skyrocketing data prices have made content creation increasingly expensive.

Despite the high costs, the internet speed remains sluggish, hampering their ability to produce and upload content efficiently.

Speaking at the event, SDK explained, “As a fellow content creator, I can attest to the challenges my colleague mentioned. The problem isn’t just the expense but also the subpar speed of the internet. It’s becoming nearly impossible to keep up with the demands of our work.”

He went on to describe how the difficulties with internet access led him to pivot away from acting and skit production.

“I used to rely on acting for my livelihood, but with these internet issues and costs, I had to change direction and start helping myself by taking up other opportunities, like sampling different foods,” he said.

SDK called on presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama to address the high cost of internet access if re-elected, urging him to take action to make the internet more affordable and accessible.

In response, Mahama assured SDK and others present that he would work towards creating a more competitive telecommunications market.

He promised to introduce measures to prevent any single provider from dominating the market, thereby fostering fair competition and better internet services.

My endorsement of NDC was voluntary – KOD

Ghanaian media personality and fashion icon Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) recently clarified that his endorsement of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the upcoming December 7 elections was entirely voluntary and without financial compensation.

In an August 10, 2024, interview with Joy FM, KOD explained that his support for former President John Mahama stems from a strong belief in his leadership, despite the challenges Mahama faced during his previous term, including the severe power crisis known as “dumsor.”

KOD expressed confidence in Mahama’s ability to address the current issues facing the country if given another opportunity to lead.

“I was not invited by anyone to endorse President Mahama. I showed up,” KOD emphasized. “In the past, people have been paid to do this. I did not get paid a dime. And if it’s something I have to do a billion times, I’ll do it without thinking twice.”

Reflecting on the nation’s situation, KOD questioned why Mahama shouldn’t be allowed to continue the work he started.

Although KOD had previously declared support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in late 2023, his views shifted due to dissatisfaction with President Akufo-Addo’s administration, which he described as one of the most turbulent periods in Ghana’s history.

KOD acknowledged Mahama’s efforts in resolving the power crisis before leaving office and believes that Mahama, rather than the NPP, is better positioned to make a positive impact on the country.

Mahama should be blamed for the collapse of Ghana movie industry – Wontumi

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has held the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Mahama accountable for the decline of Ghana’s movie industry.

In an interview on Kumasi-based Abusua FM on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, Chairman Wontumi attributed the industry’s collapse to the severe power outages, known locally as “dumsor,” experienced during Mahama’s presidency.

Chairman Wontumi asserted, “The collapse of the Ghana movie industry was because of John Mahama. The dumsor he brought caused it.” This accusation was shared widely on social media via a flyer posted by Abusua FM.

He continued to criticize the previous NDC government for various national issues while commending the NPP administration for its achievements.

Chairman Wontumi urged Ghanaians to support NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the upcoming elections, emphasizing his digitalization promises.

This development occurs against a backdrop of dissatisfaction within the creative arts sector regarding the current government’s performance and unmet promises. Many stakeholders have expressed concerns over the sector’s neglect and lack of support.

Addressing these issues, Dr. Bawumia, during a public speech at the University of Professional Studies (UPSA) in Accra on February 7, 2024, outlined his plans to revitalize the creative arts sector. His proposals included the introduction of digital and streaming platforms, tax incentives for movie producers, and an e-visa policy for international tourists.

These discussions are taking place as Ghana prepares for its general elections on December 7, 2024. The contest will feature NDC’s John Dramani Mahama, NPP’s Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Nana Kwame Bediako of the New Force Movement, and Alan Kyerematen of the Movement for Change.

This is how Mahama used Kennedy Agyapong’s words to ‘lash’ Bawumia at NDC’s campaign launch

To emphasize the critical nature of Ghana‘s current economic challenges and his capability to resolve them, National Democratic Congress flagbearer John Dramani Mahama referenced statements from prominent officials of the ruling New Patriotic Party.

During the launch of the NDC’s campaign on July 27, 2024, Mahama cited remarks by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central, to illustrate the nation’s dire situation and argue for his leadership in the upcoming December 7, 2024, elections.

Mahama highlighted Kennedy Agyapong’s viral statement from an interview with KSM, saying, “A member of the New Patriotic Party, a friend, and a former colleague MP, said, ‘It’s not Ghana that needs change, it’s change that needs Ghana.’

That is Honourable Kennedy Agyapong.” He connected this to the Afrobarometer survey, where over 80% of Ghanaians felt the country was heading in the wrong direction, underscoring the necessity for change on December 7.

Additionally, Mahama recalled President Akufo-Addo’s 2016 campaign promise, suggesting that electing Akufo-Addo was a mistake that shouldn’t be repeated with Bawumia, who is campaigning with a similar ‘try me’ message.

He warned against wasting another four years under the same leadership, emphasizing that the youth cannot afford further delays in progress.

Mahama asserted his readiness to guide the country onto the right path, arguing that the next four years are pivotal.

He expressed confidence in his ability to reset Ghana’s trajectory, drawing on his experience and expertise.

“Several years ago, somebody came and said ‘Try me,’ and the result is what we are seeing today. Now, another person is repeating the same message. The youth of this country don’t have four years to waste,” Mahama concluded.

The NPP representative had sarcastically referred to Basintale as unemployed and seeking financial support.

In a spirited rebuttal, Basintale attributed his current unemployment to the policies of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government.

He criticized the administration for causing widespread hardship and economic difficulties, particularly affecting the youth.

Basintale blamed what he described as unfulfilled promises and poor economic management by the current government for his joblessness.

Calling on Ghanaians to make informed choices in the upcoming elections, Basintale concluded by asserting, “I am jobless because of the Akufo-Addo administration’s policies. He has failed to deliver on his promises and has nothing positive to offer.”

I’ll stage a ‘No Debate, No Presidency’ protest if you don’t debate with Bawumia – Koku Anyidoho to Mahama

Former Deputy Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, has vowed to organize a protest against former President John Dramani Mahama if he declines to debate Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Mr Anyidoho stated that while Mahama himself has not directly addressed the debate challenge from Dr. Bawumia, associates of the former president have indicated that they do not see the need for such a debate.

He emphasized his readiness to lead a “No Debate, No Presidency” demonstration once Mahama publicly rejects the debate proposal.

He emphasized his stance in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), asserting, “For now, it is JM’s aides/cult worshipers who are saying he would not participate in any debate. I am waiting for JM himself to be bold and say to the hearing of Ghanaians that he would not participate in a debate & I will lead a massive ‘No Debate, No Presidency’ demonstration.”

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, during his campaign tour in Nalerigu on July 11, 2024, reiterated his call for a debate with Mahama on economic and governance issues.

Bawumia expressed confidence that he would expose the weaknesses in Mahama’s policies, particularly the 24-hour economy proposal.

“I am looking forward to a debate with John Dramani Mahama on the economy and governance, but I am afraid he is running away from a debate, and his people say he doesn’t want to debate.

He says he doesn’t want to debate because he knows that I will expose the emptiness of his policies. He says he has a 24-hour economy policy that he cannot explain; it is as empty as an empty barrel. None of his people can explain it, and they say they will be exporting lions and elephants.”

He further noted, “When we meet man-to-man, we can debate, and the country will see where our policies lie, and that is where we should go. Give the country an opportunity to listen to us, but if he chooses not to debate, I will continue to sell my policies to the people of Ghana, and you will take the decision.”

In response to criticisms from Mahama’s allies against the debate challenge, Mr Anyidoho underscored that he is awaiting Mahama’s personal stance on the matter before mobilizing the demonstration.

NAPO’s recent apology shows he is not arrogant – Koku Anyidoho

Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Koku Anyidoho has lauded the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) running mate for the 2024 general election, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) over his recent apology.

According to Mr Anyidoho, arrogance tag on NAPO is contrary to his recent action as people in that category do not acknowledge their mistakes.

He added that NAPO must be vindicated as he has shown a sign of maturity and remorsefulness.

“God has His ways of making things beautiful in His time. I know that arrogant people DON’T accept their mistakes, let alone find humble space in their hearts to apologize. If Napo has been humble enough to apologize, he has proven that he is NOT arrogant. Brave men apologize💪🇬🇭,” he added.

NAPO had claimed that President Akufo-Addo’s achievements surpasses those of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and other former presidents.

NAPO made these remarks during a ceremony in Kumasi, Ashanti Region to unveil him as the flagbearer of the NPP, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate in the upcoming December Polls.

He stated, “Since independence from 1957 till today, we’ve not had any president that has helped Ghana like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. I say from 1957 till today, you can bring your Kwame Nkrumah… no president who has protected Ghana and moved the country forward like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo”.

He emphasized the establishment of a National Women’s Bank to support one million women-owned businesses and the implementation of a 24-hour economy initiative aimed at generating employment opportunities across Ghana.

In his statement on the X platform, Mahama outlined a vision for economic revitalization, promising to address the country’s economic challenges by creating sustainable and well-paying jobs for youth.

Mahama called for a vote to “RESET” Ghana, highlighting the need for change to combat economic hardship and restore integrity to the presidency.

He criticized the incumbent NPP government for its alleged mismanagement and vowed to lead a government characterized by humility, vision, and accountability.

Keep taking credit for Free SHS initiation, God is watching you – Akufo-Addo to Mahama

President Akufo-Addo has refuted former President, John Dramani Mahama’s assertion that he initiated the free Senior High School (SHS) policy, dismissing it as “ridiculous.”

He pointed out past criticisms from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) leadership regarding the policy’s feasibility.

Speaking at the official unveiling of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer’s running mate for the 2024 elections in Kumasi on July 9, 2024, Akufo-Addo emphasized that the NDC is not a credible alternative for Ghanaians.

“Today, the free Senior High School, the same people that criticized it and said all sorts of things about it, are claiming that they implemented it. We will take it like that,” Akufo-Addo said.

“We will take it like that because as God is alive, He is not asleep.”

Akufo-Addo criticized Mahama for what he sees as a reversal on the policy.

“This leader criticized us when we said we were going to implement the Free SHS policy. Now that Ghanaians have accepted the policy, he is saying he is the one who introduced Free SHS. Have you ever heard such a thing?”

He continued, “He indeed said that we are forgetful people. Will we forget this too? Today, the leader of the NDC claims he is the one who introduced Free SHS.

“If he introduced the policy, why did he criticize us when we intended to introduce it? He said if he had 2 billion cedis, he would not invest it in free education.”

In a media engagement on July 7, 2024, Mahama denied allegations that he opposed free SHS, stating that as the originator of progressive free SHS, he supported measures to enhance its benefits.

“I support any bill that will improve our education to make it sustainable, to afford quality education for our children. So yes, any bill that would achieve this is something that I will support,” Mahama stated.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticized the Chief Justice’s recommendation of judges for the Supreme Court, calling it unconstitutional.

Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Torkornoo has proposed five judges to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to help manage the Supreme Court’s current caseload.

At a press conference in Accra, NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey asserted that the constitution does not authorize the Chief Justice to recommend candidates for the Supreme Court to the President.

He declared the Chief Justice’s proposal to President Akufo-Addo to be without constitutional merit and therefore invalid.

“Nowhere in the constitution is the Chief Justice named as the one to recommend persons to the president for appointment to the Supreme Court. We wish to state, without any equivocation, that the Chief Justice’s letter is illegal and of no effect.

“Her actions have completely turned over due process on its head and compromised her independence as the head of the judicial system. We are concerned about a worrying pattern that irresistibly suggests that the president is only appointing loyal members of his party to this court to have control over the judiciary to escape post-regime accountability,” he stated.

The judges recommended for nomination include Justice Afia Serwaa Asare Botchwey, who presided over the ambulance case involving Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, along with Justice Cyra Pamela Koranteng, Justice Edward Amoako Asante, Justice Eric Kyei Baffuour, and Justice Angelina Mensah Homiah.

Any attempts to oust IGP won’t be tolerated – NDC warns

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a strong caution against any potential moves to oust Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Speculations have circulated suggesting that the IGP was directed to take a compulsory leave of absence and transfer control of his office to his deputy, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, reportedly involved in the 2023 leaked tapes incident.

The Ghana Police Service has refuted these claims, reaffirming the IGP’s commitment to managing the force in accordance with President Akufo-Addo’s directives.

Despite these assurances, the NDC remains doubtful.

The party questions the police service’s explanation and expresses apprehension about a potential plot to replace the IGP as part of broader maneuvers to manipulate the upcoming December general election.

In an interview with Channel One News, the NDC’s deputy secretary, Mustapha Gbande, accused President Akufo-Addo of irresponsibility and prioritizing personal interests over national interests.

Mr. Gbande emphasized that the NDC will vehemently oppose any efforts to undermine Ghana’s democratic processes.

“We can guarantee President Akufo-Addo that the National Democratic Congress will use all of its power and might to repudiate any attempt to rig the 2024 election. Nothing will be able to override the people’s will,” Mr. Gbande stated.

He continued, “If this whole hullabaloo about trying to remove the IGP is about the election, President Akufo-Addo should reconsider and go home as a former president. At least in the minds of Ghanaians, he has made some appointments in the interest of the nation.”

Mr. Gbande praised the IGP’s tenure, noting, “Since assuming office, you can see significant reforms in the Ghana Police Service. There is a noticeable level of discipline, even in the appearance of police personnel, which enhances the image of our country—not just the NPP or President Akufo-Addo. It’s about the country.”

He concluded, “We have indulged President Akufo-Addo to the point where he has become an irresponsible president. It’s high time we tell him directly that it’s not always about him.”

“We believe the whole country is our stronghold as against NPP who are depending on two regions.”

Regarding the selection of Energy Minister and Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, as the running mate to NPP’s flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Fifi Kwetey stated that the NDC has no concerns.

Mr Kwetey believes that Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s performance at the Energy Ministry does not warrant apprehension about the upcoming elections this year.

“NDC not panicking because of Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh as running mate, he couldn’t even resolve the power situation,” he said.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has officially chosen Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as his running mate for the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

“NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia last night met President Akufo-Addo to formally inform him about his choice for running mate, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

C/R: NDC leaders summoned by national executives over Assin Central PC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has summoned the Central Regional Chairman and Secretary regarding the suspension of Assin Central Parliamentary Candidate, Nurein Shiabu Migyimah.

The regional executives, in a letter addressed to Mr. Migyimah, stated that the Functional Executive Committee’s decision to suspend the parliamentary candidate was based on allegations of immoral acts and anti-party conduct.

However, the national executives questioned the regional executives’ authority to make such a decision without their consent.

“The above-mentioned action, if true, was taken without the approval of the National Executive Committee and is considered inappropriate and in contravention of due process and the provisions of Articles 40, 41, 46, and 48 of the NDC constitution.”

“In light of that, you are hereby requested to appear before the National Leadership of the party on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at 2 pm, together with your Regional Secretary, to explain how this letter was sent out without the approval of the party’s national leadership,” the General Secretary of the party, Fifi Kwetey, stated.

I’m yet to receive a letter confirming my suspension – NDC Assin Central PC

The suspended Assin Central Parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nurein Shaibu Mygyimah, has stated that he has not received any formal notification of his suspension.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Friday, Mr. Mygyimah indicated that he became aware of his suspension through a letter circulating on social media and a WhatsApp message from the Regional Secretary.

He clarified that he maintains a cordial relationship with party executives and remains unaware of the specific allegations against him.

Despite this, Mr. Mygyimah expressed willingness to adhere to due party processes and expressed confidence in being exonerated.

The NDC’s Central Regional Secretariat withdrew Mr. Mygyimah as its parliamentary candidate less than six months before the December 7 election, citing allegations of immoral acts and anti-party activities in their statement.

However, Mr. Mygyimah denied these accusations, with his lawyer suggesting that the suspension was driven by personal grievances involving the Regional Chairman, Professor Kofi Asiedu, and the Regional Secretary.

In response, the aggrieved party issued a three-day ultimatum demanding the reversal of the decision to allow Mr. Mygyimah to resume his campaign for the NDC’s seat.

They threatened legal action if the ultimatum passed without resolution.

Furthermore, the NDC National Secretariat, surprised by the Regional Secretariat’s actions, summoned Prof. Asiedu and the Secretary to appear before the Functional Executive Council (FEC) on Tuesday, July 2.

The party leadership seeks clarification on the issuance of the suspension letter without approval from the national leadership.

Shamefully justify why cement prices have increased by GHC87 under Akufo-Addo – Bridget Otoo fires at “NPP fool soldiers”

Ghanaian journalist, Bridget Otoo, has criticized the Akufo-Addo-led government over the significant rise in cement prices.

In a recent post on X, Mr Otoo highlighted the stark contrast in price increases between the administrations of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Bridget Otoo, from 2009 to 2016, under the NDC government, cement prices rose by 7 cedis.

However, she stated that from 2017 to 2024, under the NPP administration, prices have surged by an alarming 87 cedis.

“I hope NPP fool soldiers will justify why the increment from 2009-2016 is worse than from 2017 to 2024… as they are doing shamelessly without success with the dollar to cedi rate,” Otoo stated.

Critics argue that the government’s policies have not adequately addressed these issues, resulting in higher costs for essential goods and services.

Meanwhile, the Akufo-Addo-led government has indicated that global economic conditions and supply chain disruptions have played significant roles in the price hikes.

The government has maintained that the government is working diligently to stabilize the economy and address these external pressures.

Don’t throw your hands up in despair; Ghana shall not die – Koku Anyidoho to Ghanaians

A former member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Koku Anyidoho, has urged Ghanaians not to give up in the fight in making Ghana a better and comfortable place for all.

Mr Anyidoho has been vocal about issues impacting Ghanaian society, advocating for unity and progress.

In a post on the X platform he  highlighted the importance of maintaining hope and resilience in the face of adversity.

“If we are actually moving into such realms of living illuminating possibilities, then there is no reason to throw our hands up in despair. Ghana shall not die,” he wrote.

The NDC’s former Deputy General’s encouragement comes after a viral video showed a Ghanaian man lauding the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s digitization efforts.

According to the man, his Ghana card served as passport while traveling back to Ghana from Cameroon.

“The Ghana card is actually a passport, the doubting Thomas must understand, I am currently at the Douala Airport travelling back to Ghana and I used my Ghana card. The card is actually a passport. Kudos to the NPP government and Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. May God richly bless Ghana,” he added.

In 2021, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia announced that the Ghana card  will be acknowledged as an electronic passport across 197 countries by 2022.

Speaking during a public lecture on the digital economy at Ashesi University on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, the Vice President highlighted that this development aims to enhance the convenience of travel for Ghanaians living abroad.

“The Ghana card will be recognized as an e-passport and can be read and verified in all [International Civil Aviation Organization] ICAO compliant borders (in 197 countries and 44,000 airports in the world). When this happens, holders of the Ghana card will be allowed to board any flight to Ghana.”

“Furthermore, the good news for diasporan Ghanaians is that when the Ghana Immigration Service is linked to the NIA architecture, diasporan Ghanaians who hold the Ghana card should not have to obtain visas to travel to Ghana.”

Highlighting additional advantages of the Ghana card, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia noted that Ghanaian missions and foreign embassies will utilize the card to verify the identities of Ghanaians abroad.

Dr. Bawumia further revealed that the government has collaborated with the International Civil Aviation Organization to enable the global activation of the Ghana card’s e-passport functionality.

“We expect this to be operational by the end of the first quarter of next year. Ghana is one of the few countries in the world where the national ID card is also an e-passport,” he said.

Ensure perpetrators of alleged assault on CSU student are punished – NPP to police

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is pressing for an investigation into the alleged assault on one of its TESCON members at Christian Service University by unidentified members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The victim, Nana Boakye, a student at Christian Service University, reportedly faced aggression from NDC members during a public lecture by former President John Mahama on the university campus.

According to reports, the altercation began when Boakye remarked, “Mahama will lose,” during Mahama’s speech, which allegedly provoked the attackers.

While acknowledging Boakye’s remarks, the NPP condemned the violence against him and called upon the Inspector General of Police and the Ashanti Regional Police Command to apprehend the assailants.

NPP’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, emphasized during a press briefing in Kumasi that justice must prevail in this case.

“He had done nothing wrong, but the NDC took advantage of him in an auditorium where we have police people, they slapped him and later on beat him mercilessly outside the auditorium.

“Our determined position is that the police will investigate this issue and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book. This morning he went to the police regional office to lodge an official complaint.”

“This should have been done much earlier but he wasn’t well, he was completely devastated. Today he feels much better and has gone to lodge an official complaint of the matter. Now we are urging the police to investigate this expressly without delay to ensure that the perpetrators are punished according to law.”

Ensure your promises are achievable – Hawa Koomson to Mahama

Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has urged National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama to refrain from politicizing the closed fishing season for canoe and artisanal fisherfolk.

Hawa Koomson emphasized that politicizing the policy would not yield significant benefits for the fishing community.

Recently, the former president pledged to exempt artisanal fishermen from the closed season if he wins the upcoming December 7 elections.

Addressing the media following a stakeholder engagement in Accra, Hawa Koomson pointed out the impracticality of excluding artisanal fishermen from the exercise.

“I hear the former president going around to say that when he comes back, he is going to abolish the closed season. I let them [the fishermen] know that it is a law. So I did not even create it. It was the NDC that made the law. And they observed it in 2016.

“I am only continuing what is there because it has become a policy. I want to plead with the former president that he has been in the seat before and he is a former president. When he is before the people and making utterances, he should be very careful because things that you cannot do, you don’t promise them.”

“The survival and growth of our nation hinge on a comprehensive restructuring of our economic frameworks,” he stated.

“It is imperative that we adopt new strategies that are resilient and inclusive to navigate the complexities of the modern economic landscape.”

Dr. Otokunor further spotlighted proactive measures initiated by former President John Dramani Mahama, who established the NDC LAB committee.Comprising seasoned technocrats, this committee is tasked with conducting a thorough analysis of the economy and providing actionable insights and innovative solutions to address economic issues.

  • NDC will win back the Eastern Corridor – Former GCB Bank MD

NDC will win back the Eastern Corridor – Former GCB Bank MD

Former Managing Director of GCB Bank and representative of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ernest Agbesi, has emphasized the importance of peaceful elections as Ghana approaches another crucial electoral period.

Following a donation of 15 motorbikes to orphan constituencies in the Eastern Corridor of Ghana, Agbesi underscored that while Ghana is inherently peaceful, any instigators of trouble will face resolute opposition.

Expressing confidence in the NDC’s prospects, Agbesi asserted their determination to reclaim all seats lost in northern Ghana during the 2020 elections, predicting challenges for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) amidst current realities.

“Ghana is a peaceful country so I don’t think we need people to come and be telling us or preaching peace to us. Nobody wants to die because of elections so I believe, personally, that there’s not going to be any problem but as a party, like our leaders are saying, we are prepared for peace but if they bring violence too, I think our people are ready for it.

Addressing the strategic importance of the Eastern Corridor, Agbesi highlighted traditional NDC strongholds and affirmed their intent to reclaim constituencies such as Kpandai, Zagzugu Tatale, Gushegu Karaga, and Bunkurugu Yunyo. He emphasized a shift in voter mindset away from monetary inducements, asserting that Ghanaians now prioritize sustainable governance over short-term gains.

“As for the Eastern corridor, we are taking it back because it is our traditional seats. Some places, they used money but Ghanaians have realised that if they give you money today and you spend, before the next four years, you are going to be suffering. So, we are wide awake now. I don’t think anybody will go and collect money to sell his vote out. No. the reality is on the ground and people are seeing it. So, we are taking back the Eastern Corridor from Kpandai to Zagzugu Tatale, to Gushegu Karaga, Bunkurugu Yunyo, we are taking all because they are our seats,” he stated.

At the motorbike presentation in Yendi, Abukari Dawumi, MP for Wulensi, expressed gratitude for the donation, noting its significance in mobilizing supporters ahead of the upcoming polls. He acknowledged the historical electoral competitiveness of Wulensi and expressed optimism in securing consecutive victories for the NDC.

Ali Adolf, NDC Northern Regional Chairman, echoed the party’s determination for electoral success, highlighting extensive voter registration efforts and emphasizing their readiness to assume power.

“With the registration over here, we gave it every attention. It’s nothing less than 90%. We gave it the attention that it required. We are very hungry for power. So, we took the pain to ensure that at least we sensitise the people and those who have attained the age of 18 got themselves registered.

“If you don’t have voters, you cannot talk about getting power. And so, we did a lot of sensitisation to let people come out to register. We are now assured that victory will come for sure,” he said.

The NDC, under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama, eyes a return to governmental authority in the December 2024 elections, with aspirations for Mahama’s final term as president of Ghana.

  • NPP will fail you if you vote for them – Jane Naana to Ghanaians

NPP will fail you if you vote for them – Jane Naana to Ghanaians

The running mate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has cautioned Ghanaians about the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 slogan, “It is possible,” alleging that the ruling party would not fulfill its promises.

During a meeting with female media professionals in Accra, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang criticized the NPP’s track record, citing recent events as proof of their inability to meet their commitments.

She specifically mentioned the protest by pensioner bondholders at the Finance Ministry demanding their funds.

She urged Ghanaians to carefully scrutinize the NPP’s pledges and assess their actual delivery when deciding how to vote.

“At a time of different haircuts, and at a time old people picketing at the ministry of finance…at that time they also thought that none of this will happen, they didn’t even imagine that it is possible. But that has been possible, so when you hear about it is possible, think about it. It is possible to picket at the Ministry of Finance, it’s possible to have a different style or haircut,” she said.

She firmly rejected criticisms suggesting that the NDC lacks the vision and ideas necessary for effective governance if elected.

“When we say it is a people’s manifesto, we mean it, I keep saying that you can just shut a couple of us in a room for a couple of weeks and we can draft one for you nicely. But for who are you doing the manifesto for? Does it include journalists? Yes, it includes journalists of many areas of focus.

“But what about the women? What is worrying them that we have to know? And if you don’t talk to them as a group, how will you know? It’s not that you lack ideas, no, those are childish. We’re a serious party. That is why we’re engaging all of you,” he said.

  • Mahama has done better than Akufo-Addo and Bawumia – NDC

Mahama has done better than Akufo-Addo and Bawumia – NDC

Head of the Running Mate’s Campaign for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alex Segbefia, has confidently asserted that the party’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, will secure a decisive victory in the December elections.

According to Segbefia, Mahama’s track record significantly surpasses those of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Segbefia made these remarks during an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Point Blank, aired on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Thursday.

“…We have a case because there is a direct comparison now. We have a flagbearer who has been president before, has been Vice President before, You can compare his record as Vice President with the record of the current Vice President. You can compare his record as president with the current president.”

“He wins hands down. Take all the macroeconomic indicators, tell me in the last seven years add Kufuor’s years which hospital has ever been built by the NPP to write home about…Not just health infrastructure. We’ve done well in almost every structure or every portfolio that exists under this current government,” he stated.

Let’s reconcile to win Wa Central seat – Alhaji Hudu Mogtari to NDC

A former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Alhaji Hudu Mogtari has urged supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Wa Central Constituency to set aside their differences and unite for the victories of both Dr. Rashid Pelpuo and former President John Dramani Mahama.

He called on party members to bridge gaps and let go of any lingering animosities from the party’s internal parliamentary primaries.

Alhaji Hudu emphasized his commitment to genuine reconciliation in the best interest of the National Democratic Congress.

The former Food and Drugs Authority boss also pledged his unwavering support for all eleven parliamentary candidates, including Dr. Rashid Pelpuo and the NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking to party supporters at his residence during this year’s Eid-Ul-Adha celebration, Alhaji Hudu Mogtari stated, “For this victory to be realized in Wa Central, we must reconcile, unite, and focus on marketing our message to the voters to rescue this country from the incompetent NPP.”

He added, “We did not gather here this evening as supporters of Alhaji Hudu Mogatri, Mutiu Rahman, Wahid Bampuori, or Rashid Pelpuo, but we are here to engage in progressive conversations in the interest of the great NDC.”

Hundreds of party youth gathered at Alhaji Hudu Mogtari’s residence on Sunday, June 16, 2024, to celebrate Eid-Ul-Adha and engage in positive discussions about the future prospects of the NDC in the constituency and the region.

Alhaji Hudu Mogtari’s appeal comes at a critical juncture when the constituency is perceived to be divided following the events of the 2023 parliamentary elections.

Several youth activists who spoke at the event commended Alhaji Hudu for his significant efforts in reshaping politics within the Wa Central Constituency.

  • NDC lost 2020 election due to Rawlings’ death, COVID-19 – Joshua Alabi

NDC lost 2020 election due to Rawlings’ death, COVID-19 – Joshua Alabi

The Campaign Manager for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, Professor Joshua Alabi, has attributed the party’s loss in the 2020 presidential election to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the passing of the party’s founder, Jerry John Rawlings.

According to Prof. Alabi, the pandemic disrupted campaign activities, while the government utilized its COVID-19 relief efforts, including free food, water, and electricity, for indirect campaigning.

In an interview with Channel One News following his re-appointment as Campaign Manager for John Mahama, the NDC’s 2024 flagbearer, Alabi expressed optimism. He acknowledged past mistakes and highlighted readiness to enhance campaign strategies for the upcoming election.

“So what this means to me is that it has offered me the opportunity to make a critical analysis of what was last time and then see how best we can polish what gaps we had and fix that in the 2024 campaign. As you are aware, in 2020…we had a covid in this country.

“We were released to the campaign around somewhere in July. Yes, we had to set our machinery in place. Of course, setting all your machinery in place from July to December was quite a difficult task for us, but we had to do our best. Midway in our campaign again, we had a bad match, and that was the demise of our father, the founding father of the party, John Jerry Rawlings. So we had to truncate our campaign.”

Prof. Alabi outlined strategies for the upcoming campaign, including door-to-door canvassing, engaging constituencies, and focusing on substantive issues to present the candidate positively to voters.

He stressed the importance of maintaining vigilance and avoiding complacency within the party ranks.

“There is a belief out there that the NDC has won the election already, we don’t want to take that because if something belongs to you and you don’t protect it, the thief will take it so we have to work. So we are going to work with various constituencies, we are going to go out there, door to door like we did in 2008 which added up to our campaign and we are also going to look at our messages and the plan of work and I am confident that the with all this we’ll get the flagbearer [elected].”
