  • Mark Kevor elected as NDC’s Eastern Regional Chairman

A former Eastern Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mark Oliver Kevor has been elected to lead the party as its Chairman in the region for the next four years.

Mark Oliver Kevor beat stiff competition from four other aspirants including the incumbent chairman, John Owusu Amankra, the vice chairman, William Atamudzi, a former Chairman, Bismarck Tawiah Boateng and Basil Ahiable.

For the First Vice Chairmanship position, Ransford Owusu Boakye overcame competition from 4 other aspirants.

Incumbent Eastern Regional Secretary, Cudjoe Adukpo failed in his bid to retain his position after succumbing to Baba Jamal Konneh a former regional director of elections.

The National Communications Director of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi who administered and ushered the new officers into office charged them to work hard and put the interest of the party first in achieving victory in the next elections.

Mark Oliver Kevor addressing the delegates indicated that “the focus of the party now is to unite and wrestle power from the governing New Patriotic Party come December 2024.”

  • NDC Elections taskforce, EC agree to conduct Eastern region polls despite injunction

After several hours of engagements with senior party members, regional executives, aspirants, and the Electoral Commission of Ghana, the National Elections Task Force of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has begun procedures to commence the Eastern Regional elections despite a court injunction.

The decision to move ahead with the elections was arrived at following a last-minute meeting with the Electoral Commission at their head office in Koforidua.

Officials of the Electoral Commission after the meeting subsequently arrived at the Koforidua Technical University, where the elections will be taking place.

Interestingly the Eastern Regional Chairman of the party, John Owusu Amankra popularly known as Jowak who issued a statement acknowledging receipt of the injunction and its subsequent suspension of the election was, however, missing during all the engagements.

  • Ofori-Atta has dismantled NDC grand agenda to misinform about economy – Ahiagbah

The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Richard Ahiagbah has said the Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has destroyed an agenda by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to misinform the public on the Ghanaian economy.

Mr Ofori-Atta appeared before the 8-member ad hoc committee to answer allegations made against him by the Minority in Parliament.

He told the committee among other things that he does not believe that the allegations carry any weight.

On the allegation of deliberate misreporting of economic data to Parliament, he said it is completely not true.

“Since I took office in 2017, I have served the country with integrity and honesty.
“Under my leadership at the Ministry of Finance, there have been significant improvements in the accurate reporting of public finances.

    Vote of Censure Paper (1)

Reacting to the presentation by the Finance Minister, Mr Ahiagbah said in a tweet that “It took only 34 pages of evidence…to dismantle the grand NDC agenda to misinform Ghanaians about the state of our economy. Now let’s work together to serve the people.”

He added “The NDC reduced everything in their quest to censure KOA, to politics. Zero evidence, just politics. Sadly, it’s becoming a pattern with the NDC to reduce everything to politics. Recall the 2021 Election petition. Evidence wins.”

  • I’ve been to court 70 times because my party folks leaked a private discussion to NPP – NDC National Chairman

The Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, says elements within his own party are behind his leaked audio tape, based on which he is currently standing trial.

Speaking in a yet-to-air exclusive interview on Adom TV, the embattled Chairman told host, Daakyehene Nana Yaw Asante, that the leaked audio is an evidence of how cruel the NDC can be when they want to destroy one of their own.

Substantiating his claims, he said the in-house traitors secretly recorded his comments in a closed door meeting and leaked the recording to the New Patriotic Party for him to be prosecuted.

According to him, he has been to court on seventy separate occasions as a result of the internally orchestrated treachery.

“When NDC wants to disgrace you, they first tag you as anti-Mahama. My own party folks recorded me at a meeting that I held with the party, with the people and went to sell the recording to the NPP, for which reason I’m standing trial. I’ve been to court 70 times”, he stated in a trailer to the yet to air interview.

In addition to tagging an individual as anti-Mahama, he said some elements within the party can travel all length to cause disaffection for someone they do not like.

The interview will be aired on Saturday, November 19 at 10:00pm on Adom TV’s weekend current affairs programme, Sɛdea Ɛteɛ Nie.

Meanwhile, ahead of the airing of the interview, some supporters of the NDC have expressed disgust over the comments of the party’s National Chairman.

According to his critics, his sentiments are unnecessary, as they will wreak more havoc for himself and the party at large.

Others have however sympathized with him, and expressed solidarity with the alleged treachery he was subjected to.

In their view, the revelations by the NDC Chairman is understandably from a place of pain, and therefore he should not be chastised.

Currently, Mr. Ofosu Ampofo’s role as the NDC’s National Chairman is also being threatened by the decision of the party’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia to unseat him.

In what has been described as the main contest in the party’s upcoming national delegates election, Mr. Asiedu Nketia is frantically taking steps to take control of the party as National Chairman ahead of the 2024 general election.

Touching on this development, Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo stated in the yet-to-air interview that, the move by Asiedu Nketia to unseat him is politically inexpedient.

According to him, notable personalities within the party, including the party’s Council of Elders and the NDC’s 2020 flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, all made efforts to prevent the contest, but to no avail.

The upcoming national delegates conference will however take place on 10th December, 2022, in the Ashanti Regional capital of Kumasi.

Eligible party delegates will elect a new crop of executives to man the affairs of the party at the national level for the next four years.

  • Our MPs didn’t ask tough questions at Censure hearing – NDC Lawyer

Top National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member and Legal Practitioner, Elikplim Lorlormavor Agbemava, says he is disappointed about the quality of representation on the NDC side of the committee on the Censure hearing against the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.

Lawyer Agbemava, believes the NDC Membership, as constituted lacked the needed depth and acumen to ask the most potent and probing questions.

This, he implied, has culminated in a saintly outlook for Ken Ofori-Atta and a vindication of his safely guarded repute as a man of spotless integrity.

Venting his dissatisfaction via a Facebook post today, Lawyer Agbemava wrote, “we need to tighten the questions la”, with the last word of the statement, an exclamation in the local Ewe parlance, summing up his obvious frustration.

His noticeable distress has been another depiction of the general sentiments shared among key members of the NDC, and the rank and file about the so called shallow disposition of the NDC panel on the committee.

NDC supporters in general had been hitherto incredibly bubbly and cheerful on the occasioning of a bi-partisan Censure Committee.

To them, what should have been the last straw on the already quick-sand dwindling fortunes of Ken Ofori-Atta, have churned counter-productive results and rather inched him a notch higher in his approval ratings.

With an initial seven-point allegations plan, sliced down to five, the beginning of the end of a no-case conclusion had been made clear. Credence had been given to those who believed the minority was indeed on a fishing expedition.

And any NDC member, who had been left with any form of hope that something dire and worthy of its weight in gold can be pushed against Ken when he took his turn at the hearing, is right to be disappointed.

The Finance Minister aced in his responses and had once again shown that his proven standards as an astute administrator of public financing has not and cannot be compromised.

For Lawyer Agbemava and some NDC faithful who followed the proceedings, the tide, as it stands now, flows graciously in Ken Ofori-Atta’s meticulous favour.

On behalf of the Regional Executive Committee of the Central Region Branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), I welcome all National Executive Committee aspirants into the Central Region and wish them good luck as they prepare to run successful campaign tours in the Central Region.

  • I’m the best person to lead NDC to victory in 2024 – Fifi Kwetey

A former Minister of Transport, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, has stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) needs an astute General Secretary to steer its affairs to win the 2024 elections.

According to the former Ketu South MP, the implementation of systems to effectively monitor activities before, during and after the general elections is key to securing victory.

Addressing party members after the vetting and balloting of nominees at the party headquarters in Accra on Tuesday, Mr Kwetey said his contenders played key roles for the NDC in the 2020 elections but completely failed in their respective roles and lack the competence to lead the party to victory in 2024.

“My two colleagues, I am contesting, one of them was in charge of the elections as director of elections and the other was the deputy general secretary in charge of operations. So those two were clearly in the heart of the operations, and they failed in their jobs. They both slept on their job.”

“One of them was even unable to ensure that the collation of results was done on time and so if you fail, you cannot blame the opponents for stealing the election,” Mr Kwetey said.

The NDC will elect its national executives on December 17 after electing regional and constituency executives.

  • I’ll restore hope in NDC – Fifi Kwetey

An aspiring General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has called on the party’s delegates to give him the mandate to enable him restore hope in the party in order to win the 2024 general elections.

According to him, the younger generation was beginning to believe that both the NDC and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) were full of people who only sought their selfish interests.

“The fact that the NPP over the past six years has not only collapsed the economy, but has also decayed the very morals of leadership does not mean the NDC is the same”, he explained.

Mr Kwetey, a former Minister of State said that at a press conference held at the NDC national headquarters in Accra yesterday after successfully being vetted to contest for the position of General Secretary.

Mr Kwetey, who also went through the balloting process, would be number two on the ballot paper for the General Secretary position on the voting day at the party’s national elections on December 17, 2022 at the Trade Fair Site in Accra.

The former Member of Parliament for Ketu South stated that the only means to win power and restore the economy of the country to its former glory was to first restore hope in the people through the party.

“We want to restore the faith of our supporters, party workers at all levels and give inspiration to the millions of people who support us from every nook and cranny of the country”, he said.

    Track record

Mr Kwetey said unlike the NPP, the NDC had a proven track record of leading the country out of economic turbulence on several occasions.

“In 1982, when this country was on the brink of collapse, our predecessor that was our PNDC, brought us from our point of disaster and set us on a path of stability that brought the stable democracy we have today.

“We did it again when we came to power in both 1993 and again when we came to power in 2009,” he explained.

    The youth

Mr Kwetey also pledged, if given the mandate, to establish a strong youth wing to bring out the creativity of the younger generation.

That, he said, was because during his tenure as communications director, some of the best ideas and interventions he put in place that made him successful in his role came from people younger than him.

He, therefore, pledged to institute measures that would celebrate the youth in a manner that their creativity would become a competition for the NPP.

  • NPP should start packing out of Jubilee House – Listowel Kusi Poku

The General Secretary of the United Front Party (UFP), Listowel Nana Kusi Poku, has praised the major opposition political party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for the successful regional elections it held across the country on Saturday, November 12, 2022.

Speaking in an XYZ TV interview monitored by GhanaWeb, Listowel Kusi-Poku said that the smoothness of the election shows that the NDC is ready for the December 7, 2022 polls and it (the NDC) will win the elections.

He, therefore, urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his New Patriotic Party government to start preparing their handover notes.

“The success of the elections the NDC held shows that Akufo-Addo and the NPP must start preparing to leave office if they have not started already. He (Akufo-Addo) should also reimburse all the monies he has stolen because we are going to chase him for it.

“So, he should start packing his things out of the Jubilee House,” he said in Twi.

At least 712 candidates contested for various regional executive positions in the NDC in all 16 regions of Ghana except the Bono East, Ahafo, and the Eastern Regions, where the elections were partially suspended.

The positions contested include those of chairman and vice chairman, secretary and deputy secretary, organizer and deputy organizer, treasurer and deputy treasurer.

The remaining positions are Communications Officer and Deputy, Women’s Organiser and Deputy, the Zongo Caucus Coordinator, Youth Organiser and Deputy Youth Organiser.

In the Greater Accra Region, Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore beat incumbent regional chairman Ade Coker to become the new chairman of the party.

The party is set to hold its national executive election on Saturday, December 17, 2022.

  • Brogya Genfi calls out Opare Addo, others for deliberately frustrating TEIN presidents

A National Youth Organiser aspirant for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Brogya Genfi, has called out the incumbent Organiser, George Opare Addo, and other leaders of the party for frustrating TEIN presidents during their just-ended regional elections.

In a statement, the aspirant indicated that the elections proved again that some leaders of the party do not treat members of the TEIN, the tertiary students’ wing of the NDC, well.

He explained that he was a victim of some of these ‘maltreatments.’

“I must observe that the elections although hugely successful, once again highlighted the continuous mistreatment and marginalisation of the intellectual wing of the party – the TEIN front. I personally witnessed this mistreatment in various incidents and reports that emanated from the Regions, and I join our teeming hard working TEIN youth in expressing our revulsion and total condemnation of same.

“Regrettably in a few regions, the TEIN fraternity was subjected to clear manipulation, intimidation and open abuse in the lead up and on the actual day of elections as they tried to exercise their franchise as a recognised outfit under the youth wing. We cannot reward the hard work of our TEIN leaders with this level of frustration,” he wrote.

Brogya Genfi added that he was particularly surprised that the National Youth Organiser of the part, George Opare Addo, was at the forefront of such unhealthy activities.

“The most unfortunate part of this whole spectacle was the fact that the National Youth Organizer of the NDC, George Opare Addo (who promised TEIN some few months ago that their voices will be heard at congress) was the main architect and mastermind who undermined the credibly approved and accredited TEIN institutions and tried to deny their voting rights. How could we be this unfair to the young people who on a daily basis put in the toil and hard work to project the party on various campuses?” he added.

He advised that the leadership of the party takes immediate steps to correct these anomalies so that it does not escalate and affect their fortunes in the future.

    Read his full statement below:

THE DELIBERATE FRUSTRATION OF TEIN PRESIDENTS IN NDC YOUTH CONFERENCES IS SHAMEFUL AND UNACCEPTABLE.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), over the weekend successfully conducted Regional conferences to elect new regional leaders, including youth organisers in thirteen out of the sixteen regions of the country.

The spirit of comradeship that was displayed across the regions, and particularly, the positive energy of the youth convinced me beyond doubt that the NDC youth are poised to lead and drive the forward match of our great party back to the seat of government in 2024. I hereby seize this opportunity to congratulate all winners in the Regional youth elections and to wish all who did not win, better luck next time. Be rest assured that there will be a place for all of you under a leadership of courage and united purpose for our collective ultimate victory

Having said this, I must observe that the elections although hugely successful, once again highlighted the continuous mistreatment and marginalisation of the intellectual wing of the party – the TEIN front. I personally witnessed this mistreatment in various incidents and reports that emanated from the Regions, and I join our teeming hard working TEIN youth in expressing our revulsion and total condemnation of same.

Regrettably in a few regions, the TEIN fraternity was subjected to clear manipulation, intimidation and open abuse in the lead up and on the actual day of elections as they tried to exercise their franchise as a recognised outfit under the youth wing. We cannot reward the hard work of our TEIN leaders with this level of frustration.

The most unfortunate part of this whole spectacle was the fact that the National Youth Organizer of the NDC, George Opare Addo (who promised TEIN some few months ago that their voices will be heard at congress) was the main architect and mastermind who undermined the credibly approved and accredited TEIN institutions and tried to deny their voting rights. How could we be this unfair to the young people who on a daily basis put in the toil and hard work to project the party on various campuses?

There is however a window of opportunity for redemption, and it is my expectation that the right thing will be done this time around. As the party prepares to hold elections in three remaining Regional Youth Elections yet to be held, we must right the wrongs to avoid the ugly scenes we witnessed in the other regions where TEIN delegates were deliberately frustrated and prevented by an incumbent who should be representing their interest. This should present a golden opportunity for the party to restore hope in TEIN by adhering strictly to the FEC approved TEIN delegates list.

More importantly, the party must cease this opportunity to revive the lost hope and restore confidence in TEIN at the level of the upcoming National Youth Election. TEIN remains the production line of the party for breeding future leaders. All party leaders, elders and stakeholders must therefore rise to the occasion and join hands to fight off any repeated attempt to disenfranchise TEIN at the National Youth Conference. Suffice it to add that any such repeated attempt at the national level, will be mightily resisted.

It is my vision and solemn pledge to reposition TEIN to become a potent vehicle for mobilization for the party’s 2024 victory. The anticipated repositioning of TEIN will help mobilize first-time voters for the party, and serve as agents to secure the ballots at the polling stations. Therefore, any one or group of persons who are allowed to dampen the spirit of the TEIN front will be dealing the party a fatal blow as same will amount to handing a license to someone to hurt the NDC 2024 electoral fortunes, for their own parochial interest. Our victory in 2024 is non-negotiable and must not be toyed with.

  • I lost the elections despite paying over GH¢500,000 to delegates – Lawyer Evans Amankwaa

Defeated Ashanti Region Chairman aspirant, Lawyer Evans Amankwaa, has said he spent huge sums of monies on the entire 1,400 delegates at the just-ended elections but still lost.

According to him, he paid GH¢350 to each delegate for lunch and transportation, at the conference which saw 62 candidates contest for various regional executive positions for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Evans Amakwaa noted in an interview on Akoma FM that the total cost amounted to almost GH¢500,000.

The legal practitioner further said although he was not surprised he lost, he had a glimpse of hope he would win the elections.

“I wasn’t surprised at yesterday’s results though I was confident of winning the election. I was as well aware that anything could have happened so I have spent hugely on the just-ended elections but it was my decision so I never regret my actions.”

Over 1000 delegates from the Ashanti Region NDC took part in the regional executive elections at Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday, November 13.

After the election, incumbent chairman Augustus Nana Akwasi Andrews sailed through with 637 while lawyer Evans Amankwa managed some 572 votes with Yaw Owusu Obimpeh coming third with 137 votes.

  • It’s an irony people lambast NDC for GYEEDA rot – Elvis Afriyie Ankrah explains why

An aspiring General Secretary of the largest opposition party in Ghana, the National Democratic Congress, has clarified the circumstances that surrounded one of the government initiatives under the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama administration.

Speaking in an interview on GhanaWeb TV’s Election Desk with Edward Smith Anamale, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah explained that contrary to the narrative, the NDC government rather came in to restructure the operations of the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Agency (GYEEDA).

He explained that upon their attainment of power, the NDC came to the realization that there was a lot of wrong with the institution, a situation that it immediately went to work on remedying.

He described as an ‘irony,’ the fact that people rather blame the John Mahama administration for the rot that happened under the GYEEDA program.

“The president gave me two mandates: qualify us for the World Cup and also restructure the youth front, and that included the National Youth Employment Program (NYEP). Now, the story that has not been told is that it is our government, under the direction of President Mahama, led by me, that streamlined and restructured the GYEEDA program.

“So, it’s an irony when people rather turn to actually lambast the NDC government for GYEEDA. So, we had the NYEP, and when we took office, we found so many issues with the NYEP, starting from when it was established. The problem was the way it was established, the structures and systems that were in place.

“There was no clear-cut mode of financing so the financing was haphazard; when bills accumulated, you’d have to go to the finance ministry and go and lobby and then get paid. We introduced a tax system; money from a source that would be coming regularly. Ways in which contracts were awarded. It was a situation where the service providers would rather bring in the contract; we changed that. We said service providers can no longer bring in contracts. The institution itself would sit down and then source for contracts and then no more sole sourcing,” he said.

Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, who was by then the Minister of Youth and Sports, explained that it was rather their efforts that streamlined the institution.

He added that it unfortunately, the bad outcomes from the unstructured administration before he took over was what many people heard about, so much that they exaggerated a lot of things.

“So, we actually restructured it, but by then, the issues were already there, but the focus was on those issues and of course, there were exaggerations; things like guinea fowls flying. There was nothing like that; absolutely nothing like that. Those were some of the exaggerations that occurred,” he explained.

  • NDC Polls: VEM Forum calls for stronger, united leadership for election 2024

A coalition of other Eight Executive Members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from across all Eighteen (18) constituencies of the Volta region are calling for a united and stonger leadership front ahead of election 2024.

The group at a press briefing during the Volta Regional Delegates Conference of the party in Ho, Saturday, noted that the NDC needs each and everyone now more than ever to wrestle power from the NPP government.

The group christenened as VEM Forum (Volta Executive Members Forum) is thus urging the new crop of the party’s leadership in the Volta region to take steps to reconcile and bring all party folks on board to deliver victory for the party in 2024.

In a statement read by Bright Yaw Sachie on behalf of members, the group said, “regional aspirants must know that we all belong to one family. Therefore, the outcome of the elections today should not bring division but rather uniting together for the rescue mission in 2024.”

The group is also calling on the NDC to involve them more in the party’s activities in ensuring a well coordinated campaign for the elections.

“Other 8 members have been neglected for too long -they only use us for elections as if we are election machines but that must stop.”

“Therefore, we are urging the new regional aspirants that will emerge winners to involve us in the new administration because we have a role to play to rescue power from the clueless NPP government,” the group urged.

According to the group, the country is now at a crossroad amidst unbearable living conditions to which only the NDC can offer a solution.

To ensure electoral success for the party in 2024, VEM Forum has outlined a number of activities including campaign activities in market places, regular press engagements and door-to-door campaign across the Volta region.

The group also placed a further call on youth in the Volta region to join their train to canvass votes for the National Democratic Congress.

  • NDC will disintegrate if we lose 2024 elections – Doe Adjaho warns

A former Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho, has urged members of the National Democratic Congress to ensure that the NDC wins the 2024 elections, otherwise the party will disintegrate.

Speaking at the NDC’s Volta Regional Delegates Conference in Ho on Saturday, the former MP for the Avenor-Ave constituency now Akatsi South, called on party members to sacrifice to ensure the party achieves its target in the next elections.

“We are a social democratic party, we put people at the centre of what we do so please I beg you, colleagues I beg you, we have to win the 2024 elections otherwise NDC will be disintegrated, let’s sacrifice for this party for once,” Mr Doe Adjaho said.

Mr Doe Adjaho also has charged members of the party to be united and remain focused as the current economic crisis is not sufficient to guarantee the party a victory in the 2024 general elections.

“The statement is that we should not be complacent as a party. The mid-term elections in the United States have taught us that hardship alone, inflation and the economy cannot win an election…So let us not be complacent.”

“Hardship is a factor, and cost of living is a factor, but it is not sufficient. We have to work hard, we have to be united and present a united front in this region and in the party,” Doe Adjaho said.

  • Our biggest enemy for election 2024 is complacency not NPP – Samoa Addo

A private legal practitioner and a member of the National Democratic Congress, (NDC), Nii Kpakpo Samoa Addo has warned party members to eschew complacency and work hard towards victory in the 2024 elections.

Speaking on Citi TV on Sunday, Mr Kpakpo Samoa Addo said the NDC’s biggest enemy ahead of the 2024 general election is not the New Patriotic Party but complacency.

“I have always said that our biggest enemy for 2024 is complacency,” Mr Samoa Addo said, adding that the party must shun massive rallies and adopt the Jehovah’s Witness’ approach of evangelism to woo new members and convince die-hard NPP supporters to choose the NDC and ditch the NPP in 2024.

Mr Samoa Addo warned that the current economic challenges are not enough to hand victory to the NDC, but hard work, sacrifice and vigilance will ensure that the party is victorious in 2024.

His comments echo that of the former Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho, who on Saturday charged members of the NDC to be united and remain focused ahead of the next general elections.

Speaking ahead of the NDC’s Volta Regional Delegates Conference in Ho, the former MP for the Avenor-Ave constituency now Akatsi South, urged members of the NDC not to be complacent and work hard towards the elections in 2024.

He also called on members of the party to desist from wooing delegates with money and favours for votes ahead of the general elections in 2024.

“The statement is that we should not be complacent as a party. The mid-term elections in the United States have taught us that hardship alone, inflation and the economy cannot win an election…So let us not be complacent.”

  • How NDC delegates voted in the Regional elections [Full results]

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) after months of internal party processes successfully held its Regional Executives elections over the weekend.

With the exception of the Bono East, Ahafo and Eastern Regions where the polls were put on hold by the Functional Executive Committee of the party over some yet-to-be-resolved issues, the exercise was organized in the remaining 13 regions during the three-day event which began on Friday, November 11 through to Sunday, November 13, 2022.

Elections in the Eastern Region will be held next weekend. That of the Bono East and Ahafo regions will be determined later according to the party.

While some incumbents retained their positions, others failed in their re-election bids giving new entrants the opportunities to run the affairs of the party at the regional level.

Following the declaration of results across the regions where elections took place, below is the outcome of the NDC regional executives elections.

  • NDC ‘thugs’ clash with police in Kumasi

Some heavily-built thugs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), clashed with some personnel of the Ghana Police Service to disrupt the Ashanti Regional Delegates Conference on Sunday, November 13.

According to media reportage sighted by GhanaWeb, these persons believed to be members of the opposition NDC wanted to enter the Baba Yara Sports Stadium without accreditation and were prevented by the security personnel.

An eyewitness who spoke to Accra-based Joy FM said, when one of the thugs was arrested his colleagues prevented the police from taking him to the police station for questioning, thus, resulting in some altercation.

“The guys vowed they would not allow the police to take the suspect away. So they fought them for a while,” the eyewitness said.

Warning shots from the police then angered these young men, numbering about thirty resulting in a free-for-all fight between them and the police.

The thugs reportedly pelted the police with stones while the police also resorted to the use of the butts of their rifles.

The police had to leave the main entrance of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to restore calm.

The incident, however, did not affect the voting process.

The NDC is electing new executives to steer the affairs of the party in the Ashanti Region.

Nearly 1,500 delegates have converged at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in what many have described as a tense election.

  • Brogya Genfi challenges legitimacy of Habib Iddrisu to serve as MP

The Ashanti Regional Deputy Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yaw Brogya Genfi, has filed a suit against the sitting Member of Parliament for Tolon Constituency, Habib Iddrisu questioning the legitimacy of the legislator.

In a writ filed at the Supreme Court on Monday, November 7, 2022, Brogya Genfi argued that the legislator, who is a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is constitutionally unfit to run for and be a lawmaker for any constituency in Ghana because he was allegedly convicted of fraud in Australia before 2020 elections.

According to Mr Genfi, a convict, per Article 94(2)(c)(i) of the 1992 constitution is not permitted to hold state and public offices.

The writ which seeks the Apex Court to invoke its original powers to interpret and enforce the constitution named the legislator, the Electoral Commission (EC) and the Attorney-General as defendants.

Responding to the suit against him in an exclusive interview on Citi TV’s The Big Issue, Habib Iddrisu denied knowledge of the suit.

According to him, he has heard of rumours concerning the suit but he is yet to be served.

“I have also been hearing it on social media, that is all to it. I have not been served, so whatever I hear, I have to be served to know what it is about,” Iddrisu told host Selorm Adonoo.

The Tolon MP also urged his constituents not to panic over reports of the suit against him, adding that he is innocent of all the allegations.

“But you see, my constituents shouldn’t be worried…the allegations against me, I am innocent of it.”

  • NDC Polls: Volta Chairman loses to new entrant

Henry Kofi Ametepe, incumbent Volta regional chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has lost to a new entrant, Mawutor Agbavitor.

The new entrant has contested the chairmanship position twice, 2012 and 2018 but has lost, he returned to contest this year, 2022.

At the end of the conference on Saturday, November 11 2022, Agbavitor pulled 203 out of a total of 581 votes cast whilst the incumbent got 130 votes, given the chance to Mawutor Agbavitor as the newly elected Chairnman for the region.

Three other persons in the chairmanship race are, former Member of Parliament (MP) for North Dayi, George Loh who pulled 181 votes, Francis Doe got 62 and Marshall Emil Ackumey pulled 5 votes only.

Delivering his victory speech, Mawutor Agbavitor said he will work with the other new executives cordially, adding that he’s poised to rekindle NDC in the region and obey principles of founder of the party, the late J.J. Rawlings.

Agbavitor emphasised that, his key aim is to work “for victory in 2024” and that he will not hesitate to do what is needful until victory is gained.

In the vice Chairmanship race, personal aid to the late Transport Minister, the late Dzifa Ativor, Egypt Kobla Kudoto pulled 220 votes followed by Divine Fiakpui Dzahini with 193 votes, making the two vice chairmen for the NDC.

Minority of the incumbents maintained their seats, with the exception of the deputy regional organizer, Elliot Wogbe who’s also a new entrant including the two Vice chairmen.

  • NDC polls: Political analyst backs Ofosu Ampofo to set up intelligence desk

The Political analyst and a senior lecturer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Johnathan Asante has lauded the National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo who’s seeking re-election to establish a security and intelligence desk for the party ahead 2024 elections.

According to him, the New Patriotic Party was involved in lots of security breaches like brutalities during the 2020 election hence an intelligence desk will pick signals in order to counter their opponents.

“It is very important because we are dealing with the NPP as a party and you could see their record from the 2020 election. You can talk of Techiman South. The brutalities even within their own party. So, if you have a chairman proposing a security and intelligence desk, I think it is well in order.

“Because you may not necessarily have trust in the state security, most often than not the state security may be certainly aligning themselves to the party in government because their loyalty is to the state first. They seem to confuse that there is a thin line between the government and the state. By being loyal to the party in government, that turns it to be like a partisan kind of thing,” he told Starr Today with Naa Dedei Tetteh Wednesday.

He further called on the party to support this call by the Chairman to be able to have an upper hand over the NPP in terms of security ahead of the 2024 General Election.

“If you have a security and intelligence desk you will be able to comprehend issues of security and nib them in the bud.

“You will also have to liaise with the state institutions like the police, the military, and so on. To ensure that things that may work against the party do not in terms of security. So I think that it is a good call”, he added.

  • Cost of living, economic hardship not sufficient to win NDC victory in 2024 – Doe Ajaho

A former Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho, has asked members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) not to be complacent and expect victory on a silver platter in 2024.

The politician said the party must remain united and focused on securing victory for the party in 2024.

In his view, it would not be enough for the NDC to rely on the current economic crisis to fuel their campaign for victory.

He stressed that it is not sufficient to guarantee the party a victory in the 2024 general elections.

Speaking ahead of the NDC’s Volta Regional Delegates Conference in Ho, he said “The statement is that we should not be complacent as a party. The mid-term elections in the United States have taught us that hardship alone, inflation and the economy cannot win an election…So let us not be complacent.”

“Hardship is a factor, and cost of living is a factor but it is not sufficient. We have to work hard, we have to be united and present a united front in this region and in the party,” Doe Adjaho said.

  • NDC clears TEIN to partake in Ashanti delegate conference

The Tertiary Education Institution Network (TEIN) also known as the campus wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been cleared to vote at the party’s regional delegate conference scheduled for Sunday, November 13, 2022.

The decision follows a lengthy meeting between some top-notch officials of the NDC, aggrieved candidates, and TEIN representatives after members of TEIN on Friday, November 11 threatened to disrupt the elections of the women and youth organizer positions.

TEIN alleged that there were attempts to prevent them from participating and voting at the delegate conference.

Touching on the controversies that happened between the aforementioned parties in a media interview Saturday, November 12, Baba Jamal, a deputy director of the NDC’s legal team said that, almost all outstanding issues have been resolved to make way for the party to elect new regional executives on Sunday.

“For the Manhyia South, there was an application for an injunction which was served on us but the issue has been resolved and elections have been held. We had issues with the youth organizers and the TEIN list. The National Executive Committee put together a three-member committee and it gave us a list of 34 delegates. That is the approved list [of TEIN]”, explained Baba Jamal.

Baba Jamal also mentioned that the women’s organizer election is put on hold pending solutions to certain concerns raised by some aggrieved candidates and party members.

“For Asawase, there were two opposing injunctions and we are consulting Accra to resolve this by tomorrow. Unfortunately, we don’t have the approved list from Accra for the women’s organizer elections. When the committee did the accreditation, it should have brought their list but unfortunately, we don’t have that. So that election has been put on hold so that we can have the accredited list to run the elections”, he is quoted by Asaase News to have said.

  • Over 1,200 NDC delegates set to elect Ashanti regional executives

Over 1,200 delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would Sunday, November 13, 2022 gather at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to elect new regional executives.

The delegate conference would see 62 candidates contest for various regional executive positions in the high-votes bank of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The contest to look out for is the regional chairman position which features the incumbent chairman, Augustus Andrews Nana Kwasi, who is seeking a re-election, against three opponents including Chairman Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, a former NDC Ashanti regional chairman.

Although the delegate conference is to elect officers for the region, the election of a regional women’s organizer has been put on hold.

Speaking on behalf of the party, the deputy director of the NDC’s legal team, Baba Jamal explained that the party is yet to resolve some concerns that were raised by candidates and party members on the women’s organizer race.

According to Asaase News report, Baba Jamal said, “For Asawase, there were two opposing injunctions and we are consulting Accra to resolve this by tomorrow. Unfortunately, we don’t have the approved list from Accra for the women’s organizer elections. ”

“When the committee did the accreditation, it should have brought their list but unfortunately, we don’t have that. So that election has been put on hold so that we can have the accredited list to run the elections,” he stated.

  • Akufo-Addo is Ghana’s biggest problem not Ken Ofori Atta – Sammy Gyamfi

The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is asking suffering Ghanaians to blame the myriad of economic hardships on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and not the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta.

The National Communications Officer of NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, reminded Ghanaians to lay the blame on the president and not his debilitating finance minister while reacting to calls for the removal of the minister.

He spoke on Accra 100.5 FM’s mid-day news on Wednesday, November 9, 2022.

He explained that the finance minister is not the appropriate person to blame for the current economic hardships Ghanaians are experiencing under the watch of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) administration.

“The financé minister could not have taken many of the decisions in running the country’s economy without the approval of the president,” he said.

He was categorical to say that Ghana’s major problem is the president.

He argued strongly that it is the president that had a social contract with the people of Ghana and not the finance minister.

“It is the president who has breached the social contract he had with Ghanaians and not the finance minister,” he said.

He was elated noting that all the president had erroneously said about the persona of former president John Dramani Mahama have turned out to play against him in government.

“In 2016 at the time inflation was high during the NDC’s administration as compared to what is pertaining under the watch of the current president was low.

“He then had the guts to ask the then-president to resign.

“So, he should also do the honourable thing by resigning,” Mr Gyamfi stressed.

He noted that the president is in control but not in charge because he is blinded by greed and selfish interest.

The country is at a crossroads because of the failure of the president to assert his authority, he again said.

  • We have no preferred candidate in NDC internal elections – Mahama’s family

The family of former President John Dramani Mahama has categorically refuted claims of having preferred candidates in the upcoming internal elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

A statement signed by Rafik Mahama, Secretary to the family, said “no member of the family is aligned and supports any of the candidates as being alleged.”

He urged the general public and members of the NDC to disregard reports of the former President supporting some preferred candidates.

“John Mahama Family has no preferred candidates in the upcoming NDC Internal Elections. Reports reaching the family of H.E. John Mahama indicate some persons associating their names with certain candidates in the upcoming internal elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).”

“For the avoidance of doubt, no member of the Mahama family, including H.E John Mahama, has any preferred candidates. The family has absolute belief in the ability of the party’s delegates to elect, out of the party’s rich pool of qualified candidates, the best candidates to serve in the various positions being contested.”

The NDC will from Friday, November 11, 2022, begin its regional election conferences nationwide.

The exercise will end on Sunday, November 13, 2022. The party wants delegates to fully abide by all laid down rules outlined.

NDC delegates in the Greater Accra Region will vote for the positions of youth organizer and women organizer at the Du Bois Memorial Center today.

The elections will continue on Sunday at the Tema Sports complex where delegates will elect a new Chairman, Secretary, and Organizer among others for the Greater Accra Region.

  • Mahama donates ¢1.9m to NDC to support internal elections

Former President, John Dramani Mahama has donated GH¢1,953,000 to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The donation is to aid the party in its internal elections with the regional elections commencing today, Friday, November 11.

This was announced by the National Communications Officer of the party, Sammy Gyamfi in a press statement issued today.

According to the said statement, GH¢853,000 is for the conduct of the regional elections and the balance for a debt owed to the Electoral Commission (EC) for the conduct of the party’s constituency elections.

“The NDC’s flag-bearer for the 2020 general elections has donated an amount totalling ¢1,953,000 to support the conduct of the party’s constituency and regional internal elections.

The donation is made up of an amount of ¢853,000 to the national party leadership for the organization of regional election conferences across the country and an amount of ¢1,100,000 to the Electoral Commission to clear the debt owed them by the party in respect to the just-ended constituency elections of the party,” the release said.

The release concluded that “the party is most grateful to His Excellency and his generous sponsors for coming to the assistance of the party at this crucial time.”

A statement signed by the NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections, Daniel Amartey, said all is set, in terms of security arrangements, logistics and venues, for the regional contests.

The exercise will end on Sunday, November 13, 2022.

  • Alhaji Sinare throws support behind Ofosu Ampofo for National Chairman re-election bid

The First Vice Chairperson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Said Sinare, has thrown his support behind the current National Chairman of the party, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo.

The National Chairman is seeking a re-election bid in the party’s pending national delegates congress, scheduled for December 2022.

He is expected to face stiff competition from the outgoing General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, and Samuel Yaw Adusei, a former Ashanti Regional Minister.

But in a statement made available to GhanaWeb, Alhaji Said Sinare, who has also indicated his non-intention to run again for his current position, said the National Chairman has his unalloyed support.

He explained that the loyalty of Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo to the party is one of the main reasons for his support for his re-election bid.

“I am endorsing Chairman Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo for a number of reasons, including his widespread acceptance throughout the nation, his loyalty to the party, as well as the competence, brilliance, and tenacity demonstrated over the past four years while serving as a National Chairman.

“In addition, I admire the chairman for being honest, unifying, and open in both his professional and personal lives. You can be sure that I didn’t make this choice on the spur of the moment. After giving each of the other candidates an equal evaluation, I have determined that Hon. Samuel Ampofo is, in a lot of ways, far superior to the others,” portions of his statement said.

The NDC will hold its national delegates congress on December 17, 2022.

See the full details of Alhaji Said Sinare’s statement below:

Comrades, in accordance with our party’s internal rules and as we get closer to the National Conference in a few days, I would like to appeal to our dear delegates and other party members for their cooperation and support in retaining Hon. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo as our National Chairman.

As far as our internal elections are concerned, our goal must be the success of our party, and the candidates we choose must inspire confidence and a sense of victory among Ghanaians and among the good members of our party even before the crucial general elections of 2024.

I am endorsing Chairman Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo for a number of reasons, including his widespread acceptance throughout the nation, his loyalty to the party, as well as the competence, brilliance, and tenacity demonstrated over the past four years while serving as a National Chairman.

In addition, I admire the chairman for being honest, unifying, and open in both his professional and personal lives. You can be sure that I didn’t make this choice on the spur of the moment. After giving each of the other candidates an equal evaluation, I have determined that Hon. Samuel Ampofo is, in a lot of ways, far superior to the others.

He is a politician who has been de-tribalized, a man whose humanity, philanthropy, and respect for everyone, regardless of tribe, religion, or political affiliation, define him. He truly embodies national harmony and puts his party’s interests first.

  • A.B.A Fuseini calls out coward NPP MPs over the removal of Ken Ofori-Atta

The Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu, Alhassan Bashir Fuseini, has called out what he described as the cowardice of his colleagues on the majority side of parliament in their decision not to support their vote of censure motion against the Minister of Finance.

Speaking in an interview with JoyNews and monitored by GhanaWeb, the outspoken National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP expressed shock at the MPs’ decision not to support their vote.

He explained that it amazes him that the MPs, who had earlier called for the minister to be sacked, would in turn throw away an easy opportunity to get their request granted.

“The man is a walking disaster, and once they themselves have come to the conclusion that Ken Ofori-Atta is a disaster, this is an excellent opportunity for them to walk the talk when they told us Ken Ofori-Atta was a disaster and must go.

“If you have been parasitising and they call for free food, it’s like your wife has just cooked, so, why is it that now that they have free food – the opportunity that the censure is moved, and now they’re running away.

“So, it is abundantly clear that they will be reneging on their responsibility,” he sad.

Alhassan Bahir Fuseini, also known as A.B.A. Fuseini, further stated that regardless of the position of the NPP MPs, they in the NDC will prove to Ghanaians that they are the ones concerned about their concerns and their well-being.

“I now say that today is a historic day in parliament, that the people will see who is truly beholding to the national interest of this country; who is truly standing up for the oppressed masses; who is truly standing up for the excruciating hardships that our people are suffering,” he said.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has proposed a vote of censure in Parliament.

Should it pass, it would make the appointment of Ken Ofori-Atta as Minister of Finance invalid in the eyes of parliament, forcing the president to officially sack him.

  • How a vote of censure against a finance minister on Nov 10, 1999, is replaying in 2022

There is an expected showdown in parliament on Thursday, November 10, 2022, as a vote of censure motion tabled by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament is considered.

The vote of censure is against the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, on the grounds of mismanagement of the economy, alleged withdrawals from the Consolidated Fund, and illegal payment of oil revenues into offshore accounts, among other reasons.

But it has emerged that there is a mysterious coincidence between the day, November 10, 2022, and November 10, 1999.

According to the Minority Chief Whip in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Asawase, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, the vote of censure to be undertaken on Thursday, 2022, will be a repetition of what happened on the same day in 1999.

He stated that in 1999, the vote of censure was against the Minister of Finance at the time, Kwame Peprah, although it was unsuccessful.

“I’m very hopeful that yes, in 1999, on the same date, November 10 1999, there was a vote of censure on Kwame Peprah even though it didn’t succeed because the then majority, which was our side, had a huge number, so they first amended the motion, and it didn’t succeed,”

He, however, expressed confidence in their planned motion on Thursday, November 10, 2022.

“I am confident although we were never able to elect a Speaker from the opposite, we were able to do it through secret ballot; I’m very confident we’ll make another history by using the secret ballot to remove a sitting minister,” he added.

The motion for a vote of censure by the NDC MPs was filed on October 25, 2022, to be debated upon and voted on 14 days after its receipt by the Speaker of Parliament.

  • Don’t be complacent ahead of 2024 polls – Afriyie Ankrah to NDC members

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has warned its members not to exhibit signs of complacency ahead of the 2024 elections.

The party contends that all and sundry must contribute as the NDC aims at winning the next polls.

Speaking to Citi News after launching his campaign to contest the General Secretary position, Director of Elections for the NDC, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah urged his supporters to stay focused.

“The governing party will be very desperate in trying to deploy other means so for me, if genuine elections are held today, the NPP will struggle to get 40 percent, but we know they won’t do genuine elections. That is why the NDC must not be complacent and say that we have won already. I don’t want to hear that. We must fight to the finish. We want to win an overwhelming victory that nobody can do anything about it.”

The Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo wants delegates to retain him as the chairman of the party.

He argues the party requires a formidable team to rescue the country from the current government.

“I respectfully urge and entreat all delegates to vote for me come December 17. Be assured that, a vote for me is a vote for unity, a stronger party, inclusiveness, hard work and ultimately, it is a vote for victory in 2024. I am the people’s chairman and I have an unfinished agenda. Vote for me for victory for the NDC in 2024 and form the next government.”

  • V8 full of makeup: Samira Bawumia chases Neat FM over Sammy Gyamfi’s allegation

Second Lady Samira Bawumia on November 9, 2022, demanded an apology from Despite Group of Companies on the allegations that a full V8 had been dedicated to carrying make-up and an artist whenever she travelled within the country.

The allegation was made on Neat FM, a subsidiary of the Despite Media Group, by the Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress(NDC), Sammy Gyamfi.

According to a letter from the Second Lady’s lawyers, Sarkodie Baffuor Awuah and Associates addressed to the Manager of Neat FM, the allegation made on November 7, 2022, on the ‘Me Man Nti,’ programme was untrue.

The letter said that Sammy Gyamfi was allowed to peddle the allegation and that with the host’s failure to rein him in, Mrs Bawumia was cast “in the minds of right thinking members of the society, as a person who is insensitive, wasteful and unreasonable.”

The twin demands made were that Sammy Gyamfi is made to retract the allegations on the same show and an unqualified apology be rendered to the Second Lady by the host of the programme.

    What did Sammy Gyamfi say?

Sammy Gyamfi on the abovementioned date alleged that Samira Bawumia in these hard times transports her makeup artiste and makeup kit in a brand new Landcruiser.

He questioned why the Second lady will be insensitive in these hard times to transport her makeup artiste and kit in a Landcruiser everywhere she goes.

“…there is another person; Samira Bawumia, do you know her convoy includes a brand new Landcruiser carrying makeup; makeup artiste; it follows her everywhere. Who is paying for that, the taxpayer,” he alleged.

  • There’s no V8 for Samira Bawumia’s makeup kit – Sammy Gyamfi retracts, apologizes

Communications Director of the main opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has retracted and apologized for an allegation he levelled against Second Lady Samira Bawumia.

He is on record to have said on Accra-based Neat FM on November 7, 2022, that Samira Bawumia had a whole V8 Landcruiser dedicated to carrying her makeup and a makeup artiste.

The comments attracted a formal demand for retraction and apology directed at Neat FM, a subsidiary of Despite Media Group.

According to a November 9, 2022 letter from the Second Lady’s lawyers, Sarkodie Baffuor Awuah and Associates, addressed to the Manager of Neat FM, the allegation made on the ‘Me Man Nti,’ programme was untrue.

The letter stressed that Sammy Gyamfi was allowed to peddle the allegation and that the host’s failure to rein him in, had cast Mrs Bawumia “in the minds of right-thinking members of the society, as a person who is insensitive, wasteful and unreasonable.”

The twin demands made were that Sammy Gyamfi is made to retract the allegations on the same show and an unqualified apology be rendered to the Second Lady by the host of the programme.

Sammy Gyamfi, in a follow-up interview on Wednesday duly apologized for lying about the Second Lady.

He confessed that his claims were untrue and that it was only fair that he retracted his comments and apologized.

“The Second Lady’s convoy does not have one brand new Landcruiser that carries her makeup kit and artiste. There is no V8 that transports her makeup kit and artiste according to the office of the Second Lady so it’s only fair for me to retract. I am sorry,” Sammy Gyamfi stated.

  • Martin Kpebu is a full NDC member, the party sponsored his demo – Abronye alleges

The Bono Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, a.k.a. Abronye DC, has alleged that renowned legal practitioner Martin Kpebu, who has been calling for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to step down, is a member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Abronye DC alleged that Kpebu was given money by the NDC to organise his recent NanaMustGo (Kume Preko Reloaded) demonstration to get President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to step down for his poor management of Ghana’s economy.

Speaking in a Neat FM interview monitored by GhanaWeb, Abronye added that Kpebu, who claims to be incorruptible, refused to give the other organisers of the demonstration their share of the funds given to them by the NDC.

“The call for the president to step down is a call by the NDC. Because under the Constitution if the president steps down automatically the Speaker (of Parliament) becomes president for the next 3 months.

“Martin Kpebu, who is known to be an NDC member, is the one championing this course. He is a full member of the NPP… He is doing this (call for Akufo-Addo to step down) for the NDC. He went for the budget for this demonstration from the NDC – they gave him everything. He should come and swear that it is not the NDC who gave him the money for the demonstration,” he said in Twi.

“He even stole all the money given to him by the NDC. He refused to give the other organisers their share. You (Kpebu) are saying that people are corrupt, but you refuse to give the other organisers of the demonstrations what is due them,” he added.

  • ‘The NDC is the calvary to save this country one more time’ – Elvis Ankrah

A former Director of Elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, has presented the party to Ghanaians as the calvary that will save the country from its current economic woes.

The aspirant for the position of the General Secretary of the party stated that the challenges people are going through currently would not come to an end through any special help from above.

Rather, he said, the NDC is the right party to bring the needed relief to Ghanaians as they have been hoping for.

Speaking during the presentation of his nomination forms at the party headquarters in Accra, Elvia Afriyie Ankrah explained that the struggles for democracy could not just be allowed to be wasted by non-performing leaders.

“The sacrifices of the 1980s were endured by all primarily because farmers from Yeji to Dodi Papase, where I was born, fishermen and women from Elmina to Denu, market women from Makola to Kumasi, all knew then that if they could endure it one more time, they will be able to build a democracy, an economy and an enabling environment that will allow the fourth republic to thrive and last for the benefit of all.

“However, that fourth republic is under attack by a clueless bunch of people led by a man who could only be described as the greatest mistake of our democracy and the worst experiment of the fourth republic. As catastrophic as that is, the real nightmare is that we still must endure it till 2024 before help comes,” he said.

He, however, stated that the return of the NDC to power would restore the needed confidence that Ghanaians hope to have in the country.

He added that together with his party members, the NDC would restore hope to Ghanaians.

“However, there’s no special help coming from above, ladies and gentlemen; there’s no calvary coming with the sunset or the roaring seas. We, the National Democratic Congress, are the calvary. You and I are the only ones who can save this country one more time. And you, the delegates, are the ones upon whose shoulder rest the sole responsibility to restore hope and give Ghanaians the much-needed assurance of a better tomorrow,” he said.

Elvis Afriyie Ankrah will face competition from Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, the current Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, and Fifi Kwetey, a former Member of Parliament for Ketu South and Deputy Minister of Finance for the slot of the party’s General Secretary.

  • Elvis Ankrah submits nomination forms to contest NDC General Secretary slot

Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has submitted his nomination forms to contest the position of general secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ghana’s largest opposition party.

The former Director of Elections of the party presented the forms on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at the party headquarters in Accra.

Presenting the forms, Elvis Ankrah stated that the pending national delegates congress of the NDC is its most critical election ever because it holds the hopes of many Ghanaians.

“But I can tell you right now that this delegate congress is the most critical elections in the history of our dear country. If we get it right as a party the whole country will get it right and if we get it wrong the country will sink.

“Take a moment and carefully think about the ramifications of putting the wrong people in the right offices. It’s akin to going fishing with a sharp shovel. This party is the last frontier of hope for the many hopeless people across this country and this election is the most hopeful thing that the people of this country are looking forward to this year,” he said.

He added that the outcome of the elections will largely determine the future of the party.

“How we move forward as a party and a country is predicated largely on the outcome of this election,” he said.

Elvis Afriyie Ankrah is facing competition from Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, the current Deputy General Secretary of the NDC; and Fifi Kwetey, a former Member of Parliament for Ketu South and Deputy Minister of Finance.

The NDC will hold its national delegates congress in December 2022.

  • I never joked with paying arrears; it boosted economy – Duffuor

Flagbearer hopeful of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) and former Finance Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, says he was serious about paying arrears to contractors and other persons who had worked for the government while he was in office.

According to him, the regular payment of arrears went a long way in boosting the growth of the economy.

“We never joked with expenditure. I was not making payments when there was not enough money. But as soon as money hit government account, I paid off people who government owed. We managed government bill very well. I never joked with arrears. I never denied contractors their money. I ensured I paid regularly in bit until all the debt is cleared,” Dr Kwabena Duffuor said on Ghana Kasa show on Kasapa 102.5FM/Agoo TV on Monday.

He added: “When we paid contractors, their work also progressed, and we also took the taxes. You pay arrears with your right hand, and you take taxes with your left hand. That is how it is done. If a contractor has executed a project worth GHC10m and you say you’ll not pay him, how does he take care of the workers? The money is not for him; it is for the workers. When he pays them, then you also take the tax from them. That helps the economy to grow very fast, and a lot of taxes are paid. If government does not pay contractors, their businesses collapse, and there’ll not be enough taxes to build the country.

  • Mahama claims Ghana has world’s highest food inflation, 122% despite PF&J

Former President John Mahama has claimed Ghana has the highest food inflation in the world – 122%.

“Ghana is on record as having the highest food inflation in the world at 122%, notwithstanding the much-touted but grossly mismanaged Planting for Food and Jobs programme”, the 2020 flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) posted on Facebook on Friday, 4 November 2022.

“We are grappling with treasury bill rates of about 30% as local investors in our financial instruments suffer huge risks associated with lending to the government. We are also experiencing massive reverse capital flows as investors lose what is left of their confidence in our economy and pull out in droves”, he noted.

As of September this year, however, the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) said the overall year-on-year food inflation was 37.8%.

Specifically, water was 58.9 per cent; milk, eggs and dairy products (49.0%), sugar, confectionery and desserts (48.0%), cereals and cereal products (46.0%), fruits and vegetable juices (45.2%), fish and other seafood (44.5%), fruits and nuts (44.4%), tea, mate and other plant products for infusion (40.0%), oils and fats (39.3%), live animals, meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals (38.8%).

Meanwhile, the ministry of food and agriculture will soon start selling farm produce to the public directly from kiosks to be mounted on its premises, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto has announced.

Speaking at a meeting with farmers in Sefwi Wiaso in the Western North Region, the minister said “the ministry itself is going to take its own initiative.”

“We are going to link up with the farmgate so that we make all the arrangements to ensure that we put up kiosks on our compounds at the ministry, specifically for food from here [Sefwi Wiaso] and we are going to give it a lot of publicity,” he explained.

In his recent national address on the economic crisis, President Nana Akufo-Addo told traders in the markets that he understands their working capital is being eaten away by the high cost of living but has urged them to be moderate in seeking profit amidst the current economic crisis.

“I know that the increasing cost of living is the number one concern for all of us. It is driven by fast-escalating fuel prices at the pumps, which is caused by high crude oil prices on the world market and our depreciated currency. I know that this is putting intolerable pressure on families and businesses. I know that people are being driven to make choices they should not have to make, and I know that it has led to the devaluation of capital of traders and painfully accumulated savings”, he said on Sunday night (30 October 2022).

He added: “Furthermore, the government is working to secure reliable and regular sources of affordable petroleum products for the Ghanaian market. It is expected that this arrangement, when successful, coupled with a stable currency will halt the escalation of fuel prices and bring relief to us all”.

“I hear from the market queens also that another factor fueling the high prices is the high margins that some traders are slapping on goods, for fear of future higher costs”.

“I say to our traders: We are all in this together. Please let us be measured in the margins we seek”, the president appealed.

“I have great respect and admiration for the ingenuity and hard work of our traders, especially those that take on the distribution of foodstuffs around the country, and I would hesitate to join in calling them names. I do make a heartfelt appeal that we all keep an eye out for the greater good, and not try to make the utmost profits out of the current difficulties”, he begged.

  • Price of salt and gari increasing every day – Mahama expresses worry

Former president John Dramani Mahama has expressed worry over the high inflation rate that has witnessed the price of basic food items increase each passing day.

Mr Mahama has once again called on the Akufo-Addo government to work around the clock and find a lasting solution to the economic crisis. In his public lecture ‘Building The Ghana We Want’ delivered on October 27, the 2020 flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress outlined some measures that can help save the situation.

In a tweet dated November 5, Mr Mahama lamented the current price of salt and gari which has now become expensive to the ordinary Ghanaian under the NPP administration.

“Prices of items including everyday medication, salt, gari and cooking oil, are constantly on the rise. If you do not buy an item at a particular point in time, you are likely to find that the price has significantly increased a few hours later,” read Mahama’s tweet sighted by GhanaWeb.

Meanwhile, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has asked to have faith in his government to turn around the woes of the state.

On Sunday, October 30, the president referenced how the New Patriotic Party managed to properly handle the COVID-19 pandemic in Ghana at a time when developed nations were struggling to contain it and assured that they will restore the economy.

“When I said, at the height of the COVID pandemic, that we knew what to do to bring the economy back to life, but not how to bring people back to life, it was not said in jest.”

“We had done it before, and we were on course to doing it again. Ghana’s economy grew by a remarkable 5.4% in 2021, signifying a strong recovery from the 0.5% growth recorded the previous year due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Akufo-Addo.

  • 1 District 1 Factory nothing but a slogan, we’ll abolish it – Tamale Central MP

One of Akufo – Addo’s ideas One District One Factory (1D1F), will be scrapped if the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) wins the 2024 general elections, according to Tamale Central Member of Parliament Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.

He claims that since its start, the 1D1F effort has failed to achieve its goals.

On November 5, 2022, the former deputy trade and industry minister was interviewed for TV3’s Key Points program and defined the 1D1F policy as the party’s campaign slogan (NPP).

“1D1F is nothing but a slogan…the 1D1F is something that when the NDC takes over we will throw out. The way it is in this form is not helping,” the Tamale Central MP stated.

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen, has in recent times noted that the government’s One District One Factory (1D1F) will soon industrialize the local economy.

He pointed out that many factories would be established across the country under the 1D1F initiative.

It would be recalled that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during the 2022 State of the Nations Address in parliament announced that 106 out of 278 factories were operational under 1D1F.

He said 148 factories were under construction while 24 were at the mobilization stage.

  • NPP MPs who refused to name bribe-giving businessman are cowards – Anyenini

Media Personality-cum-Private Legal Practitioner Samson Lardy Anyenini has described a decision by Members of Parliament (MPs) on the majority side not to give out the name of a businessman they claim attempted to bribe them as an act of cowardice.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) members of parliament say they were approached with a monetary offer by a wealthy businessman to get them to stand down on their calls to President Nana Akufo-Addo to sack Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and Deputy Minister for Finance Charles Adu Boahen.

In his assertion, Samson Lardy noted that the NPP MPs would have named the businessman whom he noted engaged in a crime if he was a known member of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC).

“What exactly are they [NPP MPs] afraid of? They cannot be scared of naming this businessman. Just imagine that this businessman was on the political divide on the other side. Would these MPs have told us about a businessman who brought bribes to them without naming him? They are teaching the very wrong things to our community,” he said on Newsfile monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

While challenging the majority members of parliament to proceed to put out the name of the said businessman as proof of their sanctity in the corruption allegation, he called them out as cowards instead of the Honourable men they are meant to be.

“If you men want us to continue to refer to you as honourable men of that parliament, please name the businessman to start with or say no more about this situation. Until they name this businessman, these [MPs] are no honourable people. These are cowards who must be told exactly who they are,” Samson added.

  • Anger by Ghanaians a manifestation NPP is held in higher standards than NDC – Salam Mustapha

National Youth Organiser of governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Salam Mustapha says the widespread disaffection by Ghanaians against government in the wake of heightened economic difficulties is evidence that Ghanaians hold the governing party to high standard as compared to the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC).

Following recent unprecedented hikes in prices of fuel, transportation, food and general cost of living, Ghanaians have expressed displeasure and angst at government as political watchers say the prevailing economic conundrum narrows the chances of the NPP to win the next election.

There have been reports of booing at both the President and Vice President at public functions as a demonstration of disapproval of the management of the economy.

But reacting to the recent booing incidents and general expression of frustration and displeasure amongst Ghanaians, the National Youth Organiser of the ruling party said Ghanaians hold the NPP in high esteem and expect more of the party as compared to the opposition NDC, a reason there is widespread uproar amidst the current economic challenges.

Speaking in an interview on A1 Radio in Bolgatanga monitored by MyNewsGh.com, he argued that Ghana’s economy was growing significantly until the recent invasion of Ukraine by Russia and post-COVID-19 challenges.

“It [booing] gives me a different impression. I think the Ghanaian people have higher expectations of the NPP. They believe that we are more capable and they hold us higher than the NDC. If they [Ghanaians] feel that we are letting them down of a sort, it is natural to protest,” he said.

He described the acts of booing at government officials by some citizens as politically contrived acts perpetrated by elements of the opposition National Democratic Congress.

  • I can fight NPP boot for boot; vote for me – Ade Coker

A Chairman hopeful of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), in the Greater Accra Region, Mr. Joseph Ade-Coker has boldly stated that he can match his opponent in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) boot for boot to win massively in the next general elections in 2024.

He said the NDC needs a courageous person like him to lead the battle and amass votes for the party to be at the helm of affairs in the country.

Interacting with NDC delegates during his campaign tour, Mr. Ade Coker said, “I have demonstrated that l have the courage to fight the NPP, they should also watch the posture of the NPP, they have been telling us that they are going to break the eight-year jinx, …If that is the case, the NDC needs a very courageous, bold and articulate person to be able to lead them in the battle in the Greater Accra region, which always determines the winning votes of the NDC. They should vote for me, I have come to you with a message and with a plan.”

The incumbent Greater Accra regional Chairman of NDC said the calibre of regional executives the delegates will elect internally will determine the party’s chances in the 2024 general elections.

“The calibre of people you elect tomorrow will determine the success of the NDC going into the 2024 general elections. If you elect people who are not mature, competent, tried and tested, the results will be GIGO, Garbage in Garbage out,” he warned.

He further advised delegates to desist from being influenced by money and enticing goodies.

The NDC is expected to elect its regional executives on November 12-13, 2022, to steer the affairs of the party.

  • ‘Sika mpɛ dede nanso ɛkɔm frɛ dede’ – Dr Duffuor jabs Akufo-Addo

Former Finance Minister Dr. Kwabena Duffuor has taken a swipe at President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his “sika mpɛ dede” remark during his address to Ghanaians on the current hardship in the country.

Dr Duffuor intimated that Akufo-Addo’s “sika mpɛ dede” remark, which literally translates as “money does not like noise”, does not make sense because hungry people will always make noise, “ɛkɔm frɛ dede”.

“Let’s all remember that even though ‘Sika mpɛ dede nanso ɛkɔm frɛ dede. Yɛ ani abere, ɛkɔm de yɛn.’!” he said at a media interaction in Accra on Thursday, November 03, 2022.

Dr Duffuor, who announced his intention to contest in the flagebearship race of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), said that if he becomes president, he will ensure that every Ghanaian, regardless of circumstances surrounding their birth, will have equal opportunity to thrive – live the “Ghanaian Dream”.

“In the next few weeks, I will tour our great land and meet with my fellow brothers and sisters to speak about our issues, our lives, our needs and our dreams as citizens. I look forward to having those conversations and to explain what I mean by ‘The Ghanaian Dream’,” he said.

He added that he would rebuild the country to the heights it reached when he was finance minister, where Ghana was adjudged the fastest-growing economy in the world.

“Let us rescue our economy to end the hardship, pain and suffering of our fellow citizens. We are a great nation, and we have the capacity to rebuild our economy again as we did during 2009 –2012,” he said.

  • Sack our DCE – Awutu Senya West NDC to Akufo-Addo

The Awutu Senya West Wing of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) wants the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Joseph Aidoo, removed from office.

The Awutu Senya NDC wants President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to sack the DCE as it claims his inability to fulfill the District Performance Assessment Tool (DPAT VI) has denied the people of the Awutu Senya West District, of significant resources to enable development in the various communities in the area.

According to the Awutu Senya NDC, the DCE, must pay for depriving the various communities of their development.

At a press conference held at Awutu Beraku, Thursday, 3 November 2022, Communication Officer for the Awutu Senya NDC, Cassius Otto Larbie, noted: “The release from the office of the head of the Local Government Service dated 11/10/2022 indicates that Hon. Joseph Aidoo; the District Chief Executive (DCE) who was imposed on the people of Awutu Senya West district by the president, through Mr Eugene Arhin; director of communication at the presidency, was unable to fulfill minimum conditions and performance indicators (KPIs) to qualify for more resources to develop Awutu Senya West District, a clear picture of super incompetence and ineptitude.”

It further noted: “The statement issued by the office of the head of Local Government service, says, Hon. Joseph Aidoo has become a source of impediment to the growth and development of the district, due to his inability to fulfill the requirement under the district performance assessment tool (DPAT VI) and this has worsened the living standards of the people of the area.”

The Awutu West Senya NDC indicated that the DCE “has failed woefully to alleviate poverty, which is one of the cardinal motives of sustainable development goals (SDG 1).”

It emphasised thar per the statement, “the resources provided to the district, for developmental projects, have been misappropriated, which is a clear indication of incompetence, abysmal performance, poor leadership skills and a crisis of credibility.

“In this regard Hon Joseph Aidoo should not be accorded as a good leader and must be held accountable for the lack of development in Awutu Senya West district, and he must be sacked with immediate effect.”

It indicated:” The DCE, who was appointed as a representative of the president, and a development agent for Awutu Senya West, is always seen working for an NGO, named “Eugene Arhin Foundation.

The background of the NGO needs no introduction. He has therefore become an impediment to the growth of the citizenry.”

It added: “We are highly disappointed in this denial and the DCE must be sacked.”

  • Chief Biney provides details of the policeman who allegedly infiltrated demo against Bawumia

The Deputy National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hamilton Nixon Biney, a.k.a Chief Biney, has revealed the identity of the policeman who allegedly infiltrated his “Ghana Must Work” demonstration against Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Speaking in a UTV TV interview monitored by GhanaWeb on Tuesday (November 1), Chief Biney, who showed pictures of the said police officer to the cameras, mentioned his name as Kwaku Gameli.

He said that the leadership of the Ghana Police Service should take the matter seriously because the policeman wore the attire of the demonstrators, which could have led to him breaching the court order that stated that only 20 people should participate in the demonstration.

The NDC deputy national organizer added that the police should investigate the matter because the alleged infiltrator claimed not to be a police officer, but he had pictures of him in police uniform.

“When I confronted this man (the infiltrator), he said he was not a police officer, and the media has a video of this. And I said to him that you know me, and I know you, Kweku Gameli; you are a police officer.

“This is the gentlemen (holding up a picture) wearing my t-shirt, “Ghana Must Work”. This is a picture of him holding placards. Look at the danger; this gentleman was right behind me. If he had done something wrong, I would have been held responsible for it.

“This is the policeman (holding another picture of the man with police apparel and a gun). This is him (another picture of him on a motorbike).

“Kweku Gameli came into the police and was a visibility officer. He is a rider and has been involved in an accident on more than one occasion. Because of that (the accidents), he is no longer a rider, but he works as an intelligence officer at Tesano (Police Station),” he said in Twi.
