Mahama has no credibility – Aide to Bawumia

Akbar Yussif Rohullah Khomeini, an aide to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has labeled ex-President, John Dramani Mahama has an individual who lacks credibility.

In an interview with TV3, Mr Khomeini pointed to the infamous Airbus scandal and bribery allegations as evidence, contending that Mahama’s credibility, particularly on matters of corruption, is severely compromised.

According to him, Mahama lacks integrity in the fight against corruption.

“I think that as somebody who passionately advocates for Mahama  he should be the last person to use the word credibility, especially on matters bothering corruption. Mr Mahama is the only politician I know at the highest level who is incurably corrupt, there is absolutely no doubt about that.

“In February 2009, according to the Federal Court report on the matter of the infamous Airbus scandal, the court established conclusively that Mr Mahama as early as February 2009  was in a constant email conversation with officials of Airbus.

His statement was in response to Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who accused Dr. Bawumia of being a habitual liar.

Mr Gyamfi alleged that Bawumia deceived the public in 2016 and 2020 with falsehoods to secure victories for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

However, Mr Khomeini, countering these claims, criticized Mahama’s credibility, citing the infamous Airbus scandal and accusing him of receiving bribes.

He argued that Mahama’s reputation as a corrupt politician is well-established, both locally and internationally.

“We also have listened, after a series of investigations by the Special Prosecutor that it was established clearly that Mr Mahama was the man designated Government Official 1. It was this man who used the name of his brother as the intermediary to receive bribes worth 8 million dollars with a phony company registered in Spain that phony company took 3million dollars out of the money and remitted over 5 million dollars to Mr. Mahana.”

He added “Indeed, if we were in any democratic culture that works effectively, Mr Mahama should not be leading any political party into any elections. This is a man whose reputation as a corrupt man is known locally and internationally. In fact, in the BBC interview he was asked ‘Have you ever received bribes?’ he dilly-dallied and asked a counter question whether as a human being or as president.  When Dr Bawumia spoke at UPSA, he proudly declared that as a human being and as vice president he is not corrupt.”

He suggested that, given Mahama’s alleged involvement in corruption, he should not lead any political party in elections.

“It is very laughable that our friends in the NPP and Bawumia think that they can once again hoodwink the people with lies.

“Ghanaians are wide awake. The days when Bawumia could get away with his lectures as we saw in opposition which were full of lies, are gone. He got away with it in 2016 and in 2020, but they will not be third time lucky in 2024. The whole propaganda that he was the economic Messiah, and he had the magic wand has been exposed.“

The people have no confidence and trust in Bawumia, his people are faced with the challenge of marketing a candidate who is a chronic liar,” he said.

  • Why can’t you show us love like we did for you despite your adulterous ways? – Angel Maxine to Mahama

Why can’t you show us love like we did for you despite your adulterous ways? – Angel Maxine to Mahama

Controversial LGBTQ+ rights activist and transgender musician, Angel Maxine, has posed a thought-provoking question to the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama.

Angel Maxine’s inquiry revolves around the principles of love and compassion within religious beliefs, particularly concerning allegations of moral transgressions and the LGBTQ+ community.

This comes in response to Mahama’s recent declaration aligning his personal faith with his opposition to LGBTQ+ activities.

Mahama stated, “I am against LGBTQ. I am a member of the Assemblies of God Church, and my faith is against it.”

However, Angel Maxine, using her platform on Instagram, has drawn attention to Mahama’s own experience in 2020 when he faced an alleged adulterous scandal, earning him the colloquial label ‘papanu.’

“You said your faith is  Ghana governed by religion because that is what everybody is riding on. In case you have forgotten what your religion preaches about… Your religion preaches about love, compassion, that is why in 2020 when your adulterous scandal came out that earned you the name ‘papano’ , your religion protected you.

“Your religion showed you love even though adultery is a sin in the bible. So, if your religion can show you love, show you compassion for being an adulturous man that is a sin in the bible. Why can’t your religion  show love to the LGBQT community,” Angel Maxine.

Despite the moral transgression, Maxine pointed out that Mahama was shielded and shown love within his religious community.

Maxine is recognized for her advocacy against the passage of the LGBTQ+ community Bill, which proposes the criminalization of same-sex relationships.

The anti-LGBT bill, which has been widely criticised by human rights groups and foreign governments, is currently being debated in parliament.

The Bill extends its reach to encompass relationships between a person and an animal or object, suggesting imprisonment terms ranging from 3 to 5 years.

  • Government should be blamed for loss of 500,000 hectares cocoa farms – Minority

Government should be blamed for loss of 500,000 hectares cocoa farms – Minority

Eric Opoku, the spokesperson for agriculture from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has raised concerns about the significant loss of over 500,000 hectares of cocoa farms in Ghana attributed to the Cocoa Swollen Shoot Viral Disease (CSSVD).

The Member of Parliament for Asunafo South, sees this loss as a failure on the part of the government to effectively execute the Cocoa Rehabilitation Project (CRP).

The CRP, an initiative by the Government of Ghana under the Economic Recovery Program (ERP) supervised by the World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), aimed to eradicate diseased and unproductive cocoa trees. The plan was to replace them with hybrid cocoa seedlings to enhance yields.

However, Mr. Opoku, speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, expressed dissatisfaction with the program’s execution, stating that the allocated funds were not efficiently utilized.

Mr Opoku continued, emphasizing that the program had not been effectively implemented, and he called for a critical examination of the issues surrounding the Cocoa Rehabilitation Project.

“I have difficulty appreciating the 500,000 hectares that the Chief Executive is talking about because around 2018, specifically in October 2020 when the President launched the cocoa rehabilitation program in Sehwi Wiawso, he indicated that a survey had been conducted by COCOBOD and the period from 2006 to 2017, and the survey indicated that the cocoa swollen shoot disease had covered 17% of all the total farmlands under cocoa production. And the total farmland under cocoa production was estimated at 1.9 million hectares. And so we are talking about 17%… It was something alarming, and we needed immediate action, and that was why Ghana had to go and borrow $600 million for cocoa replanting. So I am surprised that today the disease is consuming as much as 500,000, over 25%.”

“…The program has not been properly implemented… We must interrogate the issues critically,” he stated.

How does changing of names of universities solve increase in graduate unemployment- Mahama quizzed

Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, has expressed skepticism regarding former President John Dramani Mahama’s plan to rename public universities upon assuming office in 2025.

Anyidoho questioned Mahama’s emphasis on renaming institutions, asserting that the focus should be on job creation and advancing a better Ghana agenda during his potential presidency.

During a discussion on Peace FM, Anyidoho remarked, “How does that solve graduate unemployment? Changing names is normal; the question is, what impact does renaming have, and we are using it as a tool for political mediocrity.”

He continued to emphasize that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) should concentrate on persuading the public to garner votes for the party.

Anyidoho expressed frustration at the opposition allowing the ruling party to set the agenda, asserting, “We have sat down as an opposition party, and we are allowing the ruling party to set an agenda. It’s annoying and painful. So, if Bawumia comes and delivers his public address, including this in his submissions, what is he going to do?” Anyidoho quizzed.

John Mahama has declared that if the NDC comes into office in 2025, it will revert the names of public universities.

Mahama accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of merely renaming universities constructed by the NDC, emphasizing that the NPP had not established any new universities while in office.

Mahama asserted that while administration blocks, hostels, and libraries could bear the names of individuals, the core names of public universities should reflect their original purpose.

“And so we will restore the original names, and the names that they have given them, will be given to a significant infrastructure in the Universities.

“We will add other people and name the infrastructure in the Universities after them. But if the University is University for Development Studies, that is its core mandate. It will be called the University for Development Studies,” he stated.

Bawumia can’t swerve responsibility for economic mess – NDC

Joyce Bawah Mogtari, the Special Aide to the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, is not mincing words in response to attempts by the governing New Patriotic Party’s 2024 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and his team, to distance the second gentleman of the land from the current economic challenges facing the country.

Mogtari contends that Dr. Bawumia, as a significant figure in the Akufo-Addo administration, is accountable for the economic mismanagement issues.

In a social media post, she underscored that Ghanaians are well aware of the unfavorable conditions under the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led administration, making it impossible for the Vice President to absolve himself from blame.

With Dr. Bawumia leading the NPP as its flagbearer in the upcoming elections, Mogtari emphasized that he has been portrayed as an economic messiah and the head of the Akufo-Addo government’s economic management team since assuming the role of Vice President in 2017.

Mogtari urged Ghanaians to perceive the vice president in conjunction with his president, asserting that he offers nothing different to the citizens.

This statement from Mogtari signals a robust response to the attempts to dissociate Dr. Bawumia from the economic challenges, emphasizing the importance of holding him accountable for the state of the country’s economy.

“We should all pay close attention to the Nana Addo/Bawumia union and how it operates. This union may be willing to sacrifice the ‘marriage’ for political gain and may try to deceive us by presenting a separation of the union just as a matter of convenience,” she wrote on X.

“Just like the attempt to discredit the #24HourEconomy, any effort to decouple the union will fail because we know that this union, built on lies, will do anything for power, even if it means a complete dissolution of the union.”

Ghana is slacking due to corruption – Edudzi Tameklo

The Director of the Legal Directorate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Edudzi Tameklo, has emphasized that Ghana’s financial challenges stem not from revenue shortfalls but from the mismanagement and wastage of accrued state revenues.

In an interview on The Big Issues with Roland Walker on TV3 on February 5, Mr. Tameklo commented on the government’s reported withdrawal of the proposal to impose a 15% VAT on residential electricity consumers.

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) and affiliated labor unions had announced plans for a nationwide demonstration on February 13 if the government did not reverse the directive by the Ministry of Finance to the Electricity Company of Ghana.

“Consistent with the dishonest character of this Bawumia/Akufo-Addo administration immediately organized labour said they were going to protest, government’s assigns and hype men decided to go on this trajectory by saying that they were going to drop it.

“Organized Labour, I want to put before you today that this government is so dishonest that the only reason why they want to drop this 15 percent ECG VAT is simply because of the election ahead and that should you make the mistake of voting for them to remain in power they will go back for this 15 % VAT. This is a government that said in the midst of Covid 19 that they were giving us free water, free electricity, immediately they got elected in 2020 they imposed Covid levy on us,” he said.

Government sources later revealed that the proposal would not be implemented. According to Mr. Tameklo, “No government has collected more taxes than the Akufo-Addo government. They have obtained substantial revenue from Ghanaians. Our problem is not a lack of revenue; it is pervasive corruption, waste, and the government’s extreme recklessness.”

He argued that the withdrawal of the VAT is a political maneuver ahead of the 2024 elections. Mr. Tameklo accused the government of being dishonest, stating, “This government is so dishonest that the only reason they want to drop this 15 percent ECG VAT is simply because of the upcoming election. Should you make the mistake of voting for them to remain in power, they will reintroduce this 15% VAT.” He also highlighted past instances of promises made during the COVID-19 pandemic, such as free water and electricity, being followed by the imposition of a COVID levy after the 2020 election.

I will make sure Yendi doesn’t run short of water when I win 2024 elections – Mahama to Yaa Naa

During his ‘Building the Ghana We Want Tour’ in the Northern Region on Monday, February 5, 2024, John Dramani Mahama, the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), paid a courtesy call on Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II, the Overlord of Dagbon, at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi.

Mahama assured Yaa Naa that, if elected, his government would prioritize resolving water scarcity in Dagbon.

He expressed disappointment over the stalled Yendi Water Supply Project initiated during his tenure, criticizing the current government for its lack of progress on the project.

Mahama also promised to address the prevailing insecurity in Dagbon, particularly the rise in armed robberies, if the NDC regains power in 2025.

He emphasized the importance of ensuring safety for the people of Dagbon, allowing them to live and work without fear of harm.

Furthermore, Mahama pledged to revive the Eastern Corridor Roads project, which has experienced delays under the current government. He committed to completing the project to facilitate travel for the people of Yendi, eliminating the need to pass through Tamale when journeying to the southern part of Ghana.

I am no longer a sympathizer of the NPP – Wutah Kobby

One member of the now-defunct music group Wutah, Wutah Kobby has disclosed that he is no longer a sympathizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Dismissing any party loyalty, he disclosed that endorsing a political party is purely a business strategy employed by musicians to capitalise on the election hype.

Kobby emphasised that such decisions are critical for musicians, as they can either positively or negatively impact their careers.

He stressed that his allegiance lies with his career and the financial well-being of himself and his family, making him open to endorsing any political party that approaches him, whether it be the National Democratic Congress (NDC) or NPP.

Addressing his past association with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kobby clarified that it was a historical connection that no longer holds sway.

He emphasised that his current stance is solely grounded in the business aspect of making music and securing his livelihood.

“In endorsing a political party, it’s purely the business aspect of doing music. I work to make a living, so when a political party contacts me for endorsement, it doesn’t matter which party it is. It’s got nothing to do with party affiliation, and back in the day, I had political party affiliation, but right now, I don’t belong to any political organisation,” he affirmed.

As the 2024 election season looms, Ghanaian musicians are donning their party colours, turning the political landscape into a lucrative stage for their performances.

Recognized as the “cocoa season” for musicians, election years provide a unique opportunity for artists to showcase their talents on political platforms, albeit with significant financial risks as they command high fees for their services.

Breaking the 2: New Independent candidate wants NPP, NDC gone

Aspiring independent presidential candidate, George Twum-Barima-Adu has launched his 2024 presidential election campaign, with the goal of challenging the dominance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC)

He introduced his campaign under the slogan “breaking the 2” and the motto “yee gye aye no yie,” meaning “we are taking over governance to make it work for all.”

He also outlined his plans to eradicate the menace of galamsey in the country.

According to him intends to establish alternative livelihoods, including carbon credit harvesting and the creation of a hemp industry, specifically for the youth engaged in galamsey and others interested in these sectors.

Additionally, he proposed the enforcement of existing laws and the introduction of new legislation where necessary to address any existing loopholes.

“We need to break the foothold the NDC and the NPP have had in Ghana. It is now clear than ever that until we break ourselves from the two non-performing conjoined twins, we shall continue to have presidents that serve their parties and supporters and not the totality of Ghanaians,” he said.

Highlighting the failure of the two major political parties over the past 32 years to fulfill promises made to improve the lives of Ghanaians, Twum-Barima-Adu emphasized the need for Ghanaians to break away from the dominance of the NPP and the NDC.

He criticized the heads of state under the fourth Republic for prioritizing their own interests and those of their supporters while neglecting the broader needs of the country.

According to Twum-Barima-Adu, breaking the stronghold of the NDC and NPP is essential to elect leaders who serve the entirety of the Ghanaian population.

Describing the NPP and NDC as two sides of the same coin, Twum-Barima-Adu accused them of exploiting the country for personal gain.

To address this, he outlined his policies, including the sale of non-profitable state enterprises, a thorough review of public procurement and contracts to ensure value for money, and the downsizing of the government.

Twum-Barima-Adu emphasized that his administration would require government entities, including State Owned Enterprises, to seek approval through government review before entering into contracts.

He also pledged to reduce public expenditure by adhering to the constitutionally approved number of 19 cabinet ministers, with a total ministerial count limited to 63.

Because of power you want to put this Nation under demonic bondage – Kwamena Duncan jabs NDC

Renowned Ghanaian educationist and politician, Kwamena Duncan, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), delivered a pointed and divisive statement accusing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of attempting to impose a “demonic bondage” on the nation in their pursuit of political power.

During his address on Peace FM, the former Central Regional minister did not hold back, emphasising that the country, blessed by the grace of God, should not take the risk of placing itself in the “evil hands” of the NDC.

Duncan argued that the country’s steady administration could be compromised if the NDC were given the chance to return to power, deeming such a scenario “unacceptable.”

“At this stage that the country has reached by the Grace of God, the Grace of God has held us all the way till now. You want to risk this country into the evil hands of the NDC. The country sofar has been steadily administered and you want to give all that away into the wicked hands of the NDC, it is unacceptable, “ Kwabena Duncan stated.

Although Kwamena Duncan is well-known for her divisive remarks, he is a fervent supporter of the NPP’s agenda.

Afriyie Ankrah clears the air on oath-swearing video: It was taken in 2020, not 2024

The former Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, has issued a statement to clarify the context of a viral video in which he and other NDC executives swore an oath with a sword.

Ankrah said that the video was recorded in 2020, before the general elections, when he was the Director of Elections for the party. He said that the oath was part of his strategy to ensure that the party’s work was done with integrity and loyalty.

“The said ceremony was arranged at my own behest ahead of the past general elections of 2020 when I was the Director of Elections of our party,” Ankrah said in the statement dated January 18.

He said that he took his role seriously and was committed to serving the party and its members and supporters.

He also dismissed the rumours and reports that the video was related to the party’s current national executives or officials in charge of the 2024 general elections. He said that the video was inaccurate, misleading, and deliberately twisted to suit the agenda of the party’s detractors.

He urged the public to ignore the misinformation and focus on the party’s agenda to win the next elections.

The video, which has been circulating on social media, shows Ankrah and other National Democratic Congress (NDC) officials standing on a white cloth and holding a long, shiny sword, as they take turns to recite the oath.

The oath involves a pledge not to compromise the party’s interests for personal gain in the upcoming elections, with dire consequences if they were to break their vow.

The oath ends with Ankrah saying, “I vow that if I compromise and sell my party out for money for this coming election, may I die and my first child also die in my place. So help me God.”

Ankrah’s statement aims to clear the air on the video and reaffirm his dedication to the NDC.

Ashanti region has been sidelined by Akufo-Addo – NDC

The Ashanti regional branch of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) strongly condemns the government, accusing it of neglecting and sidelining the Ashanti region in terms of development.

Specifically pointing fingers at President Akufo-Addo, the party claims a deliberate lack of attention and resources directed towards the region’s growth.

During a press conference in Kumasi, Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Region Secretary of the NDC, expressed concern that the government seems to be intentionally depriving the Ashanti region of developmental projects, contrasting it with other regions experiencing consistent infrastructural advancements.

Amoakohene urged the electorate to consider voting out the NPP in the upcoming 2024 polls, citing their dissatisfaction with the perceived neglect.

He emphasized the need for the government to expedite the completion of all stalled projects in the region.

“We believe that the Ashanti region has been sidelined, so far as development is concerned. And it’s even reflected in his appointments, ministers, Chief Executives and others.

“We believe that this current NPP set-up has nothing to offer the Ashanti region,” the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC said.

My love for Ghana forced me to leave $10,000 salary job for $500 a month – Spio-Garbrah

A committed member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, has disclosed that his love for Ghana motivated him to forgo a well-paid position at an international organization, opting instead to serve the country for a significantly reduced salary.

During an interview on TV3’s Hot Issues program on Sunday, January 21, Spio-Garbrah shared insights into his decision to take a substantial pay cut when accepting a ministerial role in Ghana.

Despite earning $10,000 per month at the Africa Development Bank, he chose to receive a monthly salary of only $500 as a government minister.

Reflecting on his choices, Spio-Garbrah posed the question, “Will you accept to leave a $10,000 salary at Africa Development Bank to take a $500 a month as a minister? There have been opportunities I have lost because of my passion and dedication to my country and continent.”

He served as Minister for Trade and Industry from 2014 to 2017 in the Mahama administration and has previously held ministerial roles in the Rawlings administration, including Minister of Communications, Minister of Education, and Acting Minister of Mines & Energy.

Odododiodioo: Alfred Kotey Ashie nominated NDC parliamentary candidate for 2024 elections

Alfred Nii Kotey Ashie has emerged as the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) chosen Parliamentary Candidate for the Odododiodioo constituency in anticipation of the 2024 General Elections.

Securing a total of 1209 votes in the Sunday election, Mr Ashie outperformed his rival, Emmanuel Nii Okai Laryea, who garnered 952 votes out of the 2161 total votes cast.

Over 2100 NDC delegates from the Odododiodioo constituency in the Greater Accra Region participated in the election, which had initially been delayed due to an injunction filed by disqualified parliamentary aspirant Michael Nii Yarboi Anan.

The election proceeded on Sunday following the dismissal of the interlocutory injunction application filed by Mr. Yarboi Anan.

Addressing the delegates after his victory, Mr. Kotey Ashie pledged to work towards unity within the party leading up to the December polls.

    Background:

In November 2023, the Functional Executive Committee of the NDC disqualified Michael Nii Yarboi Annan from participating in the parliamentary election in the Odododiodioo Constituency.

The disqualification was based on findings from a special committee established by the Functional Executive Committee, citing that Mr. Annan did not meet the qualification criteria outlined in Article 41(8)(b) of the NDC Constitution.

This article stipulates that a member must be an active participant in the party at the constituency level for the four years immediately preceding the date of filing nominations.

Due to a court injunction obtained by the disqualified candidate, the party had initially postponed the primary in the Odododiodioo constituency indefinitely. However, following the court’s dismissal, the party has now granted clearance for the primary to proceed.

Police have apprehended four individuals for violating electoral rules by capturing their votes using phones during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary primary in the Odododiodioo constituency.

NDC Chairman Paul Laryea confirmed the arrests, noting that despite the Electoral Commission’s (EC) explicit warning against photographing ballots, these individuals proceeded to do so.

Mr Laryea emphasized that the four individuals are currently in police custody.

In the Greater Accra Region, over 2300 NDC delegates are casting their votes to choose a Parliamentary Candidate for the Odododiodioo constituency.

This follows the dismissal of an interlocutory injunction application by disqualified candidate Michael Nii Yarboi Anan, leading to the party’s initial indefinite postponement of the election.

    Background:

In November 2023, the Functional Executive Committee of the NDC disqualified Michael Nii Yarboi Annan from the parliamentary election in the Odododiodioo Constituency.

The party cited findings by a special committee, stating that Mr. Annan did not meet the qualification criteria outlined in Article 41(8)(b) of the NDC Constitution.

This article requires a member to be an active party member at the constituency level for the four years preceding the nomination date.

Due to a court injunction obtained by the disqualified candidate, the party initially postponed the primary in the Odododiodioo constituency indefinitely. However, with the court injunction dismissed, the party has now cleared the way for the primary to proceed.

Video of NDC members swearing has been misinterpreted – NDC communicator

A Communication team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Richard Manuribe, has called for calm among Ghanaians in response to a viral video showing some members taking a blood oath.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Thursday, Mr. Manuribe clarified that the ceremony, which occurred in 2019, involved the swearing-in of newly appointed Directors of Election.

He emphasized that the content has been misreported and misinterpreted.

Mr. Manuribe stated, “The NDC is aware of the video because the party organized the event. I was there and part of the people sworn in, but it is never true that there was any pledge to sacrifice our lives and that of our firstborns. It was an oath of allegiance and secrecy.”

He pointed out that the Director of Elections is now Dr. Omane-Boamah, not Afriyie-Ankrah, who was part of the ceremony.

In the video, NDC stalwarts, including Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and Daniel Amartey Mensah, were seen taking secret vows in a meeting.

“By this sword, I vow, that if I compromise, and sell my party out for money for this coming election, may I die and my first born also die in my place, so help me God. Amen,” Mr Ankrah said, holding the sword upright, while barefooted.

The video is believed to be part of the efforts by the NDC to ensure that its members do not betray the party or its flagbearer, John Mahama, who is seeking to return to power after losing the 2020 election to the incumbent President, Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

However, Mr. Manuribe clarified that the oath was about allegiance to the party and job secrecy, not pledging lives or firstborns.

He dismissed the video as a deliberate attempt to divert attention from pressing national issues, claiming that the footage had been doctored.

Mr. Manuribe asserted, “Why will he swear by blood and our firstborn? Afriyie Ankrah, for instance, is a committed Christian and will not do any such thing. All we did was to swear allegiance to the job.”

Court grants bail to NDC Vice Chairman who allegedly assaulted Regional Treasurer

The Northern Regional Police Command has released on bail Alhaji Abdul Hamid, also known as Alhaji Gbewaa, who serves as the Northern Regional Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

This decision comes after he was detained on allegations of assaulting Hajia Shamima Yakubu, the NDC Northern Regional Treasurer, during a party executive meeting at the regional office.

Alhaji Gbewaa voluntarily surrendered at the Regional Police Headquarters in Tamale on Monday, January 15, after being declared wanted by the police.

Upon his release on Monday afternoon, party supporters gathered at the police station to welcome him.

Prior to his release, a group of discontented NDC members in the Northern Region protested the arrest by locking up the party’s regional office.

Wearing red armbands, the group stormed offices at the regional headquarters with wood and padlocks. They issued a warning to lock down NDC offices in Tamale Central, Tamale South, Tamale North, and Sagnarigu constituencies until the Vice Chairman was released from police custody.

The Vice Chairman, arrested on January 15, faced accusations of assaulting the NDC regional treasurer, Hajia Shamima, during a regional executive meeting.

The incident left the treasurer visibly injured, leading her to report to the police and seek medical care. In response, the NDC released a statement condemning the attack on the northern regional party treasurer and called for calm.

Executive Director of IDEG, Dr. Emmanuel Akwetey, calls for urgent attention to address public dissatisfaction with the local government system in Ghana, citing concerns about its failure to meet basic needs and growing calls for military intervention.

During a panel discussion at the 75th Annual New Year School and Conference (ANYSC), Dr. Akwetey emphasizes the perceived shortcomings of the current local government system, particularly its failure to address issues like corruption and poverty. He warns of a threat to the country’s democracy and advocates for reforms.

IDEA proposes reforms, including the establishment of a Council for Local Development and Governance (CLDG) to integrate traditional leaders, and the introduction of the Mixed Member Proportional Representation system (MMPR) for better representation of marginalized groups in local governance.

Dr. Akwetey criticizes the existing winner-takes-all system, with the dominance of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), suggesting that political leaders prioritize capturing power over true stewardship.

He highlights the concentration of control in the hands of these two parties, fueled by Article 55(3) of the constitution, preventing political parties from participating in local governance.

Dr. Akwetey stresses the need to address systemic problems in the local government to create an environment for political and economic transformation.

Professor Atsu Ayee, a former Dean at the University of Ghana, supports the call for a party-based local government system, citing the current fragmented and non-viable nature of the system.

He emphasized the importance of building strong institutions to tackle challenges associated with the existing local government structure.

‘Dumsor’ is a thing of the past – Government

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has assured Ghanaians that the recent power outages, reminiscent of the 2015 “Dumsor” crisis, will not become a recurring issue.

The party emphasizes that ‘Dumsor’ is a thing of the past and is dedicated to preventing such widespread power shortages from happening again, as they did during the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.

Alfred Thompson, a member of the NPP Communications Team, emphasized the government’s diligent efforts to ensure a consistent power supply for the nation during an interview on The Big Issue on Citi TV.

“We are saying to Ghanaians that it is not a dumsor era and we will never let them go under that challenge in this country again.”

“And that is why we are working assiduously to make sure that the lights are on and that is why we are working assiduously to make sure that the laws are reduced…and we will work in the interest of Ghanaians,” he stated.

Ketu North youth leave NPP to join NDC over poor NPP governance

Some young individuals in the Ketu North Constituency of the Volta Region, purportedly affiliated with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), have defected to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Their decision is attributed to dissatisfaction with the perceived ineffectiveness of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led government. The group officially declared their switch on January 11, 2024.

Among them are former NPP executives in the region, expressing their inability to continue endorsing what they view as a faltering administration.

In an interview with Citi News, Bernard Akpabli Agbeli, a former youth organizer of the NPP in the area, stated that these youths have pledged their support for the NDC and its presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama.

“Already, I have declared my total support for John Mahama and the NDC. We will campaign for them, and we will make sure that we win the presidential and will form the majority in the parliamentary election. I was the polling station youth organiser, formerly polling station organiser; I was constituency youth organiser as well.”

“So I’ve served this party [NPP] for about 27 years now. Everybody knows me very well in the Volta Region here, and the leadership of the party in the region also knows me; they know how hard-working I am. This government is not ruling us well. So it is because of that I took this decision,” he said.

No one is conspiring to oust NPP MPs – Ahiagbah

The Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has refuted claims that outspoken NPP Members of Parliament (MPs) who have been critical of the government are intentionally being singled out for removal in the forthcoming parliamentary primaries.

The claims were made by Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, an opposition MP representing Odododiodoo.

Vanderpuye specifically cited Eugene Boakye Antwi of Subin and Andy Appiah-Kubi of Asante-Akim North, both of whom had been vocal in advocating for the removal of Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, as examples of MPs allegedly facing targeted elimination.

During an appearance on the Key Points program on TV3, Vanderpuye stated, “These individuals are being targeted by the establishment,” while discussing the decisions of some lawmakers, including Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, not to seek reelection.

In response, Ahiagbah refuted the claim on the same show, stating, “The idea that some MPs are being targeted is not true. The space is competitive, so if you are afraid of some contest you can’t make that claim.”

NPP closed nominations on December 25 for parliamentary aspirants in constituencies with incumbent MPs.

The parliamentary election is scheduled for January 27, 2024, marking the next phase of the party’s efforts to have representatives in all 275 constituencies. This follows the successful primaries held in orphan constituencies on December 2.

As of the close of nominations on Christmas day, some seasoned party members opted not to submit forms, signaling a voluntary end to their parliamentary careers.

One notable figure on this list is Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who has represented the Suame Constituency in the Ashanti Region since 1997.

NDC poised to make Ghana a better place – Fifi Kwetey

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) warmly extends New Year greetings to the entire Ghanaian populace, ushering in 2024 with a reflection on the challenges posed by the prevailing economic difficulties attributed to the current NPP government.

In a statement released by General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey, the NDC acknowledges the hardships faced by Ghanaians and expresses a sense of hope that the forthcoming year, being an election year, presents an opportunity for positive and transformative change.

Amidst economic struggles, the NDC emphasizes its unwavering commitment to serving the interests of all citizens, aspiring to foster a future characterized by inclusivity, robust economic development, and social harmony.

The statement underscores the party’s resilience in the face of adversity and its determination to contribute to a Ghana that thrives on democratic principles.

The party urges Ghanaians to recognize the upcoming election as an opportunity to actively participate in shaping a brighter and more prosperous future.

The sentiment echoed by the NDC is one of unity and shared aspirations for progress, emphasizing the need for citizens to engage in the democratic process to address the challenges posed by the present leadership.

In the spirit of collective responsibility, the NDC extends a call for renewed dedication to the democratic ideals that underpin the nation’s identity.

As the New Year unfolds, the party stands firm in its commitment to navigating the political landscape with a focus on the betterment of Ghana, fostering positive change, and advancing the welfare of its citizens.

If the police won’t address electoral violence, NDC will – National Organiser

The National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) National Organiser, Joseph Yammin, has affirmed that the party is prepared to protect ballots in the 2024 general election through any necessary means.

Mr Yammin emphasized that the NDC’s experience of assault, rigging, and intimidation in the 2020 elections will not be repeated, and any such actions will be countered.

In an interview on Okay FM, Mr Yammin stated, “Do you think we are going into the election to clap for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia? We are going to win the election and if winning the election means that we have to protect ourself, we are going to do that.

“We are not going into the election to watch on for Bawumia to become president. We are going to tell Ghanaians to make Mahama president because he is the only person that can save this nation.

“We are going to vote and if it calls that we have to also protect the ballot boxes, we are going to do that, whatever means we need to protect the ballot boxes, we are telling you and telling everybody listening to you that we will do it.

“No matter the intimidation, no matter what. We will not sit aloof. The palms that were used to slap people in 2020 we also have some and we don’t just use ours to eat fufu, we can also slap someone,”

Yammin’s remarks follow a police statement announcing an investigation into a similar statement made by the Deputy National Secretary of the party, Mustapha Gbandi.

The police deemed Gbandi’s call for NDC supporters to be armed at polling stations as potential incitement.

In response, Yammin defended Gbandi’s position and criticized the police for not addressing incidents of electoral intimidation and violence by the ruling New Patriotic Party against the NDC.

He emphasized that the NDC will protect its ballots if the police cannot guarantee a free, fair, and transparent election.

Koku Anyidoho was most powerful during President Mills’ time – Mustapha Gbande

The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has highlighted the significant influence wielded by the former presidential spokesman, Koku Anyidoho, during the administration of the late former president, John Evans Atta Mills.

Mr Gbande acknowledged Anyidoho’s past prominence as one of the most powerful appointees, noting that his words carried considerable weight and authority, leaving little room for dissent.

Despite recognizing Anyidoho’s historical significance, he advised him against targeting current NDC National Chairman, Johnson Aseidu Nketiah, with criticism. In an interview on Neat FM on December 22, 2023, Gbande suggested that Anyidoho’s recent critiques seemed driven by lingering resentment.

While expressing a spiritual aversion to insulting individuals who have held positions similar to his own, Gbande acknowledged the challenges faced by Anyidoho and emphasized the transient nature of power dynamics.

He affirmed that the current era belongs to General Aseidu Nketiah, asserting that distractions from individuals like Koku Anyidoho would not sway the party’s focus.

“Spiritually, I don’t insult people who have been where I am before, but I do know that life has not been fair to my brother (Koku Anyidoho) …Koku Anyidoho’s insults to my national chairman are from long-standing bitterness.

Koku Anyidoho was one of the most powerful appointees under President Mills. At the time, if Koku Anyidoho shouted, nobody could talk.

“Everybody’s time would come to pass, and this is General Aseidu Nketiah’s time. He will enjoy it to the glory of God, and people like Koku Anyidoho cannot distract us,” he said.

You have performed poorly to win 2024 elections – NDC tells NPP

The Upper East Regional Women’s Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fawzia Abagnamah Yakubu, has emphasized that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) performance alone should not be the sole basis for predicting victory for the NDC in 2024.

According to her, determination, focus, hard work, and vigilance are essential for the NDC to regain power from the NPP, which she believes has failed to fulfill its promises to the people.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Party’s Regional Women’s Wing Working Committees, themed “Effective Mobilization of the Women’s Front” in Zuarungu, Bolgatanga East District, Madam Yakubu stated that while the task ahead may seem straightforward due to perceived dissatisfaction with the NPP government, it is insufficient to guarantee an NDC victory on December 7, 2024.

The 47-member Committees, comprising various groups, were entrusted with the core mandate of supporting the Regional Women’s Organizer in coordinating the Constituency Women’s Organizers and engaging across the region to garner votes for the NDC.

“The NPP’s failure alone is not enough for us to conclude on an NDC victory come December 7, 2024.”

“We must win the December 7, 2024 elections convincingly at the polls to rescue this country. As women, we remain an integral part of this exercise, knowing the influential role we can play once we are committed.

“The new face of politics in Africa is women, and this is a call to duty we must stand up to in Ghana,” the Women’s Organizer told members of the various committees.

Madam Yakubu explained that the selection of committee members considered the challenging task ahead, focusing on individuals ready to collaborate as a team to achieve successful election results.

She emphasized the crucial role women play in politics, stating, “The new face of politics in Africa is women, and this is a call to duty we must stand up to in Ghana.”

Dr. Hanna Louisa Bissiw, the National Women’s Organizer of the Party, who inaugurated the Committees, urged Party supporters to unite with a common purpose towards the 2024 election, emphasizing the importance of the women’s front in realizing the aspirations of the NDC’s flag bearer, Mr. John Dramani Mahama.

Joseph Yamin, the National Organizer of the NDC, encouraged women to actively engage in public spaces, particularly market centers, with Party materials to propagate the NDC’s message. He emphasized the need to showcase the NDC outside party functions, fostering positive perceptions among the public.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by various political figures, including Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East Constituency, Madam Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba, MP for Tempane Constituency, and Madam Laadi Ayii Ayamba, MP for Pusiga Constituency, among others.

  • NDC MPs and groups to embark on a#OccupyBoGProtest today

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has agreed to compromise on the police-proposed routes for its Occupy Bank of Ghana (BoG) protest on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. This decision is aimed at advancing their demand for the resignation of the BoG Governor and his two deputies.

Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the NDC, acknowledged the police’s initial stance on the routes as “unreasonable.” However, the NDC has chosen to compromise in the interest of maintaining public order and safety.

The protest, organized by the Minority Caucus in Parliament and various pressure groups, opposes the continued tenure of the BoG Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, and his two deputies. The demonstrators are calling for the resignation of the Central Bank’s leadership due to the GH¢60 billion loss recorded by the bank in the 2022 fiscal year and the controversial new head office project.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service (GPS), informed the press in Accra that the protesters would gather at the Obra Spot at Kwame Nkrumah Circle. From there, they would proceed through Adabraka, Ridge Roundabout, National Theatre Traffic Light, High Court Complex Traffic Light, Attah Mills Highway, make a U-turn at the National Lottery Authority, and conclude their march at Independence Square.

But Mr Gyamfi on Eyewitness News said “They [police] have been very unreasonable on the routes but in the interest of public order and public safety and because we want to embark on this peaceful demonstration to press home our demands, we had compromises which we have agreed to. So on Tuesday, the demonstration is coming on.”

In the interim, the GPS has also assured that it is adequately prepared and has enough contingents to deploy for the #OccupyBoGProtest.

ACP Ansah-Akrofi said the police have prepared and trained adequately for the protest.

“We have an adequate number of police officers for tomorrow’s demonstration and I will want to urge every member of the public that wants to come for the protest to show up tomorrow because we have enough men to provide security throughout the length of the demonstration, and we will be there throughout.”

EC’s registration modalities must be reviewed – NDC

The Electoral Commission (EC) has faced accusations from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of engaging in voter suppression. This allegation stems from the EC’s choice to conduct limited voter registration solely at district offices, a decision the NDC deems suboptimal.

As the voter registration enters its sixth day today, on September 18, many individuals have raised concerns about various challenges they have encountered.

The Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the NDC, Theophilus Tetteh Chaie, has expressed dissatisfaction with the EC’s handling of the situation, stating that it is exacerbating the issues.

There is growing pressure on the Electoral Commission (EC) to reconsider and adjust its procedures for the ongoing voter registration exercise. Dr. Adomako Kissi, Member of Parliament for Anyaa–Sowutuom, has also criticized the decision to restrict registration to district offices, arguing that it is not the most suitable approach.

In contrast, the National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has expressed satisfaction with the progress made during the first week of the limited voter registration.

The Electoral Commission commenced the registration process on Tuesday, September 12, with the goal of enrolling first-time voters who have yet to obtain their Voter ID cards.

Despite opposition from the NDC and some civil society organizations, the registration continues to take place at district offices of the electoral commission throughout the country.

Former NDC Vice Chair in Upper East region shot dead by unknown gunmen

A former Upper East regional vice chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was fatally shot by unidentified attackers, as reported by Accra-based Asaase Radio.

The victim, Williams Akanyele, was killed at his residence in Nabango, situated in the Kassena-Nankana West district of the region. He was discovered in his room on Thursday morning, with gunshot wounds to his neck and abdomen, according to the Asaase Radio report.

The incident occurred Wednesday night and is suspected to be an assassination related to an ongoing chieftaincy dispute. Regional police, under the leadership of DCOP Darko Offei Lomotey, have launched an investigation into the matter.

A similar episode unfolded in late August, where three out of seven assailants attempting to attack the NDC constituency chairman for Binduri were killed. The attackers besieged the chairman’s residence and fired indiscriminately, prompting community members to come to his aid.

During the confrontation, three assailants were fatally injured. One of them died on the scene, while the others fled and later succumbed to their injuries in different locations.

According to a report from TV3, the deceased assailants were identified as Nashiru Razak, 32, Abdul Bashid, 23, and Muniru Bashiru, 22, hailing from Sagabo, Patrame, and Pusum in the Bawku municipality. DCOP Darko Offei Lomotey, the Upper East Regional Police Commander, and his team visited the crime scene in Bazwa to gather information about the attack.

Political competition must aim for excellence and progress – Fifi Kwetey

The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has emphasized the necessity for a change in the dynamics of political competition.

He stressed that political parties should shift their focus towards achieving excellence, with Ghana as the ultimate beneficiary.

In an interview with the media, the General Secretary expressed his view, stating that “competition should persist, but it should no longer be a mere race for the NDC to outperform the NPP. Instead, it should be about the NDC doing what is necessary to make Ghana prosper and content.”

Expanding on the concept of competitiveness, he suggested that “when Ghana is genuinely content with our performance, our competitiveness against the opposition becomes a higher form of competition.”

Fifi Kwetey encouraged the NDC to rise above the common practice of comparing track records and start striving for excellence, rather than solely using the NPP’s disappointing track record as the benchmark, as he believes Ghana deserves better.

Addressing the disillusionment of the youth, he attributed their frustration to the perceived lack of trustworthiness, particularly displayed by the NPP, and the ongoing leadership failures across Africa that have led to recent coup attempts.

Fifi Kwetey also stressed the importance of allowing institutions to operate independently, with a notable mention of the Judiciary and the Electoral Commission.

He also introduced his new initiative, titled “Arise for Ghana,” an insightful online episodic series aimed at tackling critical issues related to leadership, governance, values, attitudes, and actions that influence national development. This series will be broadcast weekly on Fifi Kwetey’s and the NDC’s social media platforms.

    New NDC national executives sworn-in

Eleven dedicated members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have officially taken their oaths as National Executives Committee members during a ceremony held at the party’s headquarters on September 6, 2023.

The newly inaugurated executives include Professor Joshua Alabi as Vice Chairman, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah as Director of Elections for the Party, and Edudzi Tamakloe, who assumes the position of Director of Legal Affairs.

Addressing the party members in attendance, the NDC’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, not only charged the new executives to meet their responsibilities but also stressed that any attempts to oppose the will of the citizens for a change in government would not be tolerated.

“Comrades, you are taking on important roles today, and the tasks ahead may be formidable. However, we have faith that you will rise to the challenge. We understand that no governing team can fully represent everyone, and there may be shortcomings in this composition. Nevertheless, we appeal to our party’s rank and file to view this as a call to duty, not an honor. Wherever you are, you can contribute to achieving our common goal, whether you are officially sworn in today or not.”

  • Russia-Ukraine war comes nowhere close to NPP super delegates elections

Russia-Ukraine war comes nowhere close to NPP super delegates elections

The Director of Elections and IT at the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has likened the recent super delegates conference of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to a conflict more intense than the Russia invasion of Ukraine.

This comparison comes as a response to the widespread violence that marred the elections in various regions of the country.

In a tweet, Dr. Boamah stated ” “NPP super delegates elections worse than Russia-Ukraine war”.

Former President John Dramani Mahama also weighed in on the matter, urging responsible and concerned Ghanaians to denounce the acts of aggression.

Former President Mahama voiced his astonishment at the escalation of violence within an internal competition. He connected this disturbing trend to the legacy of President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Particularly, he recalled the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence and the tragic election-related fatalities of eight Ghanaians in 2020.

Through a series of tweets following the ruling party’s polling to select five candidates out of ten aspirants for the upcoming November Presidential Primary, the 2024 flagbearer of the NDC underscored his concern.

The polling on August 26th was marred by attacks on opponents. For instance, in the North East Region, a polling station agent of Alan Kyerematen, Ali Zakaria, sustained injuries from an attack, resulting in swollen eyes.

Furthermore, an agent representing Ken Agyapong in the Upper West Region allegedly had to flee the voting center due to threats, provoking the ire of the Assin Central lawmaker.

These incidents prompted Mr. Mahama to call for condemnation, as the electoral process should have taken place peacefully.

He lamented that violence has become the norm within the NPP, and emphasized the importance of denouncing such aggression, especially within an internal contest among members of the same party.

The NPP is set to choose its 2024 flagbearer from candidates including Dr. Bawumia, Mr. Kyerematen, Mr. Agyapong, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Boakye Agyarko or Francis Addai-Nimoh.

The selected candidate will face off against John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming elections.

NDC unveils new appointments ahead of 2024 polls

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), in a recent press release endorsed by the General Secretary of the party, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has implemented fresh appointments to strategic roles aimed at fortifying the party’s leadership and enhancing its efficacy.

The announcement, issued following the NDC’s National Executive Committee meeting convened on Thursday, August 24, 2023, highlights the unanimous approval received for these new appointments.

To bolster the NDC’s ranks, three capable individuals have been selected as Vice Chairmen: Professor Joshua Alabi, Dr. Samuel Sarpong, and Abdul Rauf Khalid.

Fifi Fiavi Kwetey remarked that these additions are poised to infuse the party’s leadership with a wealth of experience and specialized knowledge.

In preparation for the pivotal 2024 elections, the NDC has entrusted the role of Director of Elections and IT to Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, a former Minister of Communications renowned for his expertise.

Further enhancements include Godwin Kudzo Tameklo’s appointment as the Director of Legal Affairs, solidifying the party’s legal framework.

Additionally, Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, previously the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, has been tasked with spearheading the party’s efforts in fostering relations with other political entities and civil society organizations.

This pivotal role centers on cultivating collaborative partnerships that extend across political boundaries and into civil society spheres.

I am in Ghana to serve the needs of my constituents – Gyakye Quayson

The Member of Parliament representing the Assin North Constituency, James Gyakye Quayson, has expressed his contentment upon returning to Ghana after spending several years in Canada.

According to him, his purpose for returning is to serve the needs of his constituents, a move that brings him great satisfaction.

James Gyakye Quayson, previously the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Assin North by-election, achieved a triumphant victory in the recent polls.

The by-election, which took place on June 27, 2023, saw Mr. Quayson secure 17,245 votes, constituting an impressive 57.56 percent of the total votes cast.

This victory enabled him to surpass his opponents: Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG).

In the closely contested by-election, Charles Opoku garnered 12,630 votes, corresponding to 42.15 percent of the total votes cast, while Bernice Enyonam Sefenu from the LPG received a mere 87 votes, amounting to 0.29 percent of the total.

Mr. Quayson, who initially secured the seat in the 2020 polls with 17,498 votes, was removed from Parliament due to his dual citizenship status before filing his nomination forms.

The vacancy in the Assin North seat arose after the Supreme Court’s ruling on May 17, instructing Parliament to expunge Gyakye Quayson’s name from its records.

In an interview with the media, the legislator conveyed his happiness about revitalizing his constituency.

Despite facing daily challenges that posed setbacks, Mr. Quayson emphasized that these obstacles did not dissuade him from putting in vigorous effort to secure the seat. He underscored his unwavering determination and dismissed any fear of losing the by-elections.

However, it’s worth noting that the MP is currently entangled in a legal battle, facing allegations of forgery and perjury. The state has levied charges against him, including deceiving a public officer in contravention of section 251 (b) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960, Act 29.

Additionally, he is accused of forging a passport or travel certificate, in violation of section 15 (1)(b) of the Passports and Travel Certificates Act, 1967 (NLCD 155), as well as knowingly making a false statutory declaration, an offense under the Statutory Declarations Act, 1971, Act 389.

Furthermore, Mr. Quayson faces perjury charges under section 210 (1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960, Act 29, along with charges of making a false declaration for office as per section 248 of the same act, Act 29.

  • Irresponsible opposition – Prof Adei slams NDC over decision to picket at BoG HQ

Irresponsible opposition – Prof Adei slams NDC over decision to picket at BoG HQ

Former Chairman of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Prof. Stephen Adei, has criticized the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) members in parliament.

The former chairperson of the National Development Planning Commission labelled the NDC Minority’s call for the resignation of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Ernest Addison, as a display of recklessness and irresponsibility.

According to Prof. Adei, the demand for the Governor and his deputies to step down lacks a proper understanding of the potential consequences.

“When the opposition talked about the governor resigning with his deputies. First of all they don’t know what they are talking about. If the governor and his deputies resign today, the impact will be gargantuan.

He stated that such abrupt resignations could have a substantial impact on currency depreciation and overall external confidence in the country’s financial system.

He expressed his concern about the opposition’s approach, referring to it as “irresponsible opposition.”

The NDC has expressed their intention to protest if the Governor of the BoG and his deputies do not resign within 21 days.

At a press conference held under the banner of the NDC’s “Moment of Truth” series on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader, party accused Dr. Addison of overseeing the mishandling of the Bank’s affairs, resulting in a reported loss of GH¢60.8 billion during the fiscal year 2022.

“In this regard, we call for the resignation of the Governor of the Central Bank and his deputies within 21 days from today,” Dr. Forson said.

“We are resolved to embark on popular action to occupy the Central Bank and drive out the team of inept, callous and criminal mismanagers of the finances of this country and save the Bank of Ghana. The March to Ensure Accountability will begin in 21 days if the Governor of the Bank of Ghana does not do the needful and pack bags and baggage out of that sacred institution that he has so desecrated. Dr Ernest Addisson Must Go! There has to be an end to impunity and it is NOW!,” he added.

Prof. Adei suggested that a more responsible course of action would involve the NDC initiating a parliamentary inquiry into the matter before resorting to further steps.

He emphasized that the opposition’s current approach could exacerbate the country’s economic challenges.

In his view, the sensitive nature of financial matters calls for a measured and informed response, rather than immediate demands for resignations.

“This particular one is totally irresponsible, they are oblivious of the impact of what they are saying is done today. In the normal circumstance you will ask immediately for the commission of inquiry to establish the parameters and parliament has the right to do so.

“For example here we are able to tell its 250 million dollars while  its 250 million cedis. These things are so sensitive to the economy that you don’t say that if you don’t resign we are going to picket,” he stated.

  • I never ordered the destruction of Ken Agyapong’s billboards – Annoh-Dompreh

I never ordered the destruction of Ken Agyapong’s billboards – Annoh-Dompreh

The Member of Parliament representing Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has refuted allegations suggesting that he destroyed billboards and artworks belonging to a prospective leader within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong.

These allegations arose from supporters of Kennedy Agyapong, who asserted that Annoh-Dompreh played a role in damaging campaign materials within his own electoral region, as the party’s special delegates congress loomed on the horizon.

However, Annoh-Dompreh vehemently repudiated any involvement in such actions. He emphasized that even though he may not share Kennedy Agyapong’s presidential aspirations, he would never resort to underhanded methods to undermine his campaign.

During a session with the Parliamentary Press Corp, Annoh-Dompreh conveyed his deep admiration for Kennedy Agyapong and underscored his unwavering commitment to refrain from tarnishing his reputation or campaign efforts.

He restated his dedication to fostering a culture of political integrity and equitable competition within the party.

“I don’t know anything about this so-called matter and I feel a lot of pain because this is somebody that I respect, he is not an enemy and I don’t even do this to my opponents in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who have their artworks all over Nsawam and how much more will I go about pulling down the artwork of my colleague Member of Parliament.

“This is not the first time they are throwing this allegation at me and I want to tell my colleague that I don’t have anything personal against him.”

He tipped the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to be massively endorsed in the upcoming Special Delegates Congress of the NPP.

“If you zero in on what happened in Sunyani in 1998 and all the things that the other contestants have said, there are not going to be any surprises, it will be an emphatic endorsement for the most popular candidate and you know it is the Vice President and he is going to win hands down.”

  • Taxing betting a lazy approach to generate revenue – NDC

Taxing betting a lazy approach to generate revenue – NDC

The Deputy Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Osman Ayariga, has criticized the government’s imposition of a 10% tax on winnings from betting and lotteries.

He labeled this taxation approach as a lazy means of generating revenue, often associated with incompetent administrations.

Speaking to the media, Mr Ayariga expressed his disapproval of the tax, deeming it unjust and harsh on Ghanaian youth who heavily rely on betting for their livelihoods.

He asserted that the tax is biased, favoring foreign businesses over Ghanaian citizens due to the existing tax regime.
Ayariga contended that if foreign companies can deduct losses and pay taxes only on profits, it’s unfair that ordinary citizens aren’t allowed the same privilege. He criticized the government’s approach of deducting a percentage from a single win, deeming it simplistic.

Ayariga highlighted that a more comprehensive taxation system, where the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) profiles and calculates individual profits and losses, would be a fairer solution.

Furthermore, he criticized the government’s concerns about addiction, sarcastically suggesting that addiction to issues like corruption, lies, deception, and theft within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) should be the focal point of discussions.

  • BoG HQ project handed to unregistered construction firm – Ablakwa

BoG HQ project handed to unregistered construction firm – Ablakwa

The Member of Parliament representing North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has brought to light a significant surge in the expenses associated with the new Bank of Ghana (BoG) headquarters.

The project’s original estimated cost of $80 million has skyrocketed to an astonishing $250 million at the present juncture.

In an extensive message posted on his Facebook account, Ablakwa also asserted that a construction company, designated through a singular-source procurement process by the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) for the venture, lacks proper registration within the country.

This startling disclosure has deepened suspicions surrounding irregularities and potential improprieties throughout the selection and authorization procedure.

The MP for North Tongu further emphasized that a distinct company was granted PPA approval for overseeing project management services a full three months before its official registration.

Ablakwa also rejected assertions that the decision to construct a fresh headquarters for the Central Bank originated during the prior National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.

“From the intercepted documents, procurement for the project did not commence under the NDC or during the tenure of Hon. Ato Forson as Board Member, neither did it start during the presidency of H.E. John Mahama, contrary to the vicious fabrications by some desperate NPP apologists.

    “The BoG’s unacceptable use of the Restricted Tendering Method amounts to a blatant violation of the Public Procurement Act, 2003 (Act 663) as amended in Act 914. Section 38 of Act 663 provides a limited scope for the use of Restricted Tendering in circumstances where goods, services or works are available only from a limited number of suppliers or contractors;

    “From the intercepted documents, the BoG handpicked the following companies: i) Messrs. WBHO Ghana Limited, ii) Messrs. Man Enterprise, iii) Messrs. DeSimone Limited, iv) Messrs. Ronesans Holdings and v) Messrs. Goldkey Properties;

“It is not clear what criteria the BoG used in selecting its preferred 5 companies when Ghana’s built environment can boast of many established and celebrated construction firms such as Consar, Berock, Maripoma, Mawums, M. Barbisotti, First Sky, Antartic, Ussuya, Regimanuel, and so on and so forth.”

  • I didn’t lose 2020 parliamentary election – John Dumelo

    I didn’t lose 2020 parliamentary election – John Dumelo

The candidate representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, John Dumelo, has claimed that he did not lose the 2020 parliamentary election.

He maintained that he considers himself the winner, as he was not far from securing the constituency’s seat.

Dumelo emphasized that his party achieved the best results in the constituency’s history, leading him to refrain from terming it a loss.

He has also expressed his determination to secure victory in the upcoming 2024 elections, highlighting that although his team faced defeat in 2020, they have since formulated strategies to succeed.

“In my perspective, we emerged victorious in the 2020 election. We achieved unprecedented results in the history of Ayawaso West Wuogon. Progress is often marked by initial steps. Shortly after assessing the results, we analyzed and devised plans for winning the forthcoming election,” he elaborated.

Talent manager and entertainment pundit, Mr. Logic has stated that the actor will experience a second defeat in his bid against his contender Lydia Alhassan.

According to him John Dumelo’s demeanor appears to be marked by arrogance and excessive self-assurance, as he because he believes to be the preferred choice of the people.

Mr Logic added that Dumelo’s focus seems to be more on showcasing himself as a member of parliament to validate a certain perspective.

“I was happy Fred Nuamah was contesting John Dumelo, He is boastful and overconfident, he feels to be the people’s favorite and I wanted Fred to prove a point that the people can change. Fred’s withdrawal makes me think he is not confident, however, I personally love Fred Nuamah to John Dumelo”

“If I had the right to vote in that constituency, my choice was Fred Nuamah. Apart from John Dumelo being a hard worker, politically I feel his just hopeful to be an MP to prove a point and my research shows John Dumelo will lose for the second time. The people already have their candidates and my research shows John isn’t the favorite”.

In 2020, the actor-turned-politicia strived to assume leadership in the constituency through a heated parliamentary rivalry with the incumbent, Lydia Seyram Alhassan.

Mrs. Alhassan stepped into the role previously held by her deceased husband, Emmanuel Boakye Agyarko, when she participated in and triumphed in the parliamentary election in January 2019.

Based on preliminary results, Lydia Alhassan of the NPP secured 39,851 votes, while Dumelo of the NDC followed closely in second place with 37,778 votes.

Meanwhile, Mr Dumelo has issued a caution to his former 2020 advising her to brace herself for a defeat in the upcoming 2024 elections.

In a tweet he stated “Lydia Seyram Alhassan, your downfall is next!”

  • NDC to protest against 10% tax on betting

NDC to protest against 10% tax on betting

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth wing has unveiled a series of strategies aimed at pressuring the government to retract the imposed 10% tax on betting.

The move follows concerns that this taxation policy disproportionately burdens the country’s youth and the wider betting industry.

The implementation of the 10% betting tax, intended to generate revenue, has faced criticism and opposition.

NDC youth activists assert that this tax places an unfair burden on young Ghanaians who engage in betting for entertainment and sometimes as a source of income.

The National Youth Organiser of the NDC, George Opare Addo, issued a press statement expressing the party’s discontent with the tax. He stated, “We are resolute in safeguarding the earnings that young people acquire through betting.

Through protests, advocacy, civic engagements, and demonstrations, we will ensure our concerns are heard and demand that the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia Government reverses its decision.”

The statement outlined their planned actions, which include staging protests at the Ministry of Finance and occupying government premises nationwide. They intend to initiate lawful demonstrations both conventionally and unconventionally, aiming to intensify the resistance against the tax.

The statement also mentioned efforts to mobilize young individuals to confront government officials and call for an end to perceived corruption and insensitivity within the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration.

Additionally, they plan to occupy the Parliament and other government agencies.

Lydia Alhassan investing in political activities with Common Fund – NDC

The Ayawaso West Wuogon branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has alleged that the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Lydia Seyram Alhassan, is diverting the district assembly’s common fund towards her political endeavors.

The party claims that this fund, intended for addressing local developmental challenges, is not being used as intended.

Bismark Aborbi Aryitey, the NDC chairman for Ayawaso West Wuogon, stated that Alhassan has not provided an account of the common fund’s utilization.

He noted that the fund appears to be directed toward NPP members in the constituency and questioned its allocation.

Concurrently, the NDC leadership in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency has officially endorsed actor-turned-farmer John Dumelo as their candidate for the upcoming 2024 general elections.

In a statement signed by constituency chairman Bismark Aborbi-Ayitey, it was revealed that fellow aspirants Fred Nuamah and Kojo Adu Owusu have withdrawn from the race to allow Dumelo to represent the NDC.

Fred Nuamah withdrew his candidacy on August 8 and pledged his full support to Dumelo. The NDC is urging its supporters and the public to unite behind Dumelo’s bid to win the seat from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections.

  • BoG’s GHS60 billion loss could fund NABCO for 60 years – Edudzi Tameklo

BoG’s GHS60 billion loss could fund NABCO for 60 years – Edudzi Tameklo

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s Legal Team, Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has stated that the GH¢60 billion loss reported by the Bank of Ghana (BoG) would have been sufficient to fund the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) for a span of six decades.

According to the Bank of Ghana’s 2022 report, the institution incurred a significant loss amounting to GH¢60 billion. The central bank attributed this substantial loss to the outcomes of the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme.

During an interview with the media, Edudzi Tamekloe, who also practices law privately, underscored the substantial impact of the lost GH¢60 billion on various governmental undertakings.

He criticized the government’s inability to sustain the NABCO program due to financial constraints, even in light of the reported GH¢60 billion allocation from the central bank.

“The Bank of Ghana is informing us that they have recorded a loss exceeding GH¢60 billion. This very loss would have sufficed to cover the NABCO beneficiaries’ expenses for a staggering 60 years. It means the annual payments could have been supported by this loss for six decades,” Edudzi Tamekloe explained.

He highlighted that the government’s challenges in upholding the NABCO initiative stem from financial limitations, despite the supposed GH¢60 billion inflow from the Bank of Ghana. This situation prompts inquiries into the utilization of such a significant sum of money and the government’s capability to allocate it appropriately.

Edudzi Tamekloe further voiced concerns about the transparency and accountability in managing such a substantial fund. He pointed out that the substantial amount could have been directed to fortify crucial government programs like NABCO.

“At this moment, the government of Ghana is indebted to NABCO trainees. Hence, the pressing question emerges: where has the GH¢60 billion disappeared to? Where is this substantial sum of money?” he posed.

  • Supporter of Alan Kyerematen not a member of us – NDC

Supporter of Alan Kyerematen not a member of us – NDC

The Ashanti Regional leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has refuted allegations suggesting the suspension of their Women’s Organiser within the region.

These claims arose due to her public endorsement of a candidate from an opposing party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the flagbearership race.

Earlier reports had indicated that the NDC’s Kumawu office had taken the decision to remove Akua Afriyie, the Women’s Organiser, from her role for openly expressing her support for Alan Kyerematen, a contestant in the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer competition.

This decision to remove her allegedly stemmed from a video in which she vocally expressed her admiration for the opposing party’s candidate.

However, in an official statement dated August 9, 2023, the leadership of the NDC in the Ashanti Region categorically denied any knowledge of an individual fitting the description of a women’s organiser or party executive at any tier of the organization.

They characterized these reports as baseless and intended to cause harm, emphasizing that no women’s organiser affiliated with their party had made any such declaration.

Furthermore, they asserted that no suspension of this nature had been implemented by any branch of the party.

The name mentioned in the reports, Akua Afriyie, was clarified to hold no presence within their party records as a women’s organiser or party executive, whether at the branch, constituency, or regional level, as detailed in their statement.

“The said name (Akua Afriyie) which is linked to the story does not exist in any of our records as a party women’s organizer or party executive either at the branch constituency or regional level,” it continued.

    Below is the statement:

According to news reports, the Ashanti Regional leadership has dismissed Akua Afriyie from her role as the Women’s Organiser.

This action was taken due to her public endorsement of Alan Kyerematen, a contender in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer race.

The decision to remove her from her position was apparently influenced by a video in which she vocally expressed her admiration for Alan Kyerematen, the opposition candidate.

In the video, Akua Afriyie can be heard stating that although she is a member of the NDC, she would cast her vote for Alan Kyerematen if he is presented as the NPP’s candidate in the 2024 general elections. She further commented that Alan, a former Minister of Trade and Industry, possesses the vision necessary to alleviate Ghana’s existing challenges and to inspire the nation’s youth towards greatness.

Reportedly, she remarked, “I am currently not a member of the NDC or a member of the NPP, but I am a strong supporter of Mr. Kyerematen.”

Alibaba and 40 thieves: Akufo-Addo’s gov’t compared to popular tale

Deputy Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Osman Ayariga, has criticized the Akufo-Addo administration for its multiple corruption scandals.

He asserted that the current government is replete with individuals who exploit their positions to enrich themselves, disregarding the welfare of ordinary Ghanaians.

Ayariga likened the widespread corruption within the present government to the tale of ‘Alibaba and the 40 Thieves.’

In an interview with the media on August 11, 2023, he drew parallels between the government’s behavior and the infamous story, humorously suggesting that the title might need an upgrade to ‘Alibaba and the 1000 Thieves’ given the numerous ministers and appointees involved.

The deputy youth organiser proceeded to highlight instances where government officials were discovered possessing unexplained wealth.

Notably, he referred to the case of Adjenim Boateng Adjei, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), who was found with substantial funds in his bank account. Ayariga also mentioned the incident involving a presidential staffer who lost around $117,000.

“I remember a book, I used to read, growing up, ‘Alibaba and the 40 Thieves’ … and this government honestly reminds me of that book. This government is a classic example of Alibaba and the 40 thieves, just that in this case, we have more than 40 ministers and appointees… so maybe ‘Alibaba and the 1000 Thieves.

“This is a clear example of a very bad case for the government and this is not the first. Remember the recent one of the PPA boss, where so much money was found in his bank account?

“… you also remember the recent reportage of a presidential staffer who also lost about $117,000. And you do the mathematics and the numbers are mind-boggling, … the numbers are so unbelievable,” he added.

Ayariga’s comments stem from recent reports regarding the discovery of significant sums of money in the homes of former Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) found large amounts of cash, both local and foreign currencies, at various properties linked to the embattled ex-minister.

At the Abelemkpe residence, where substantial assets, including jewelry and currencies, were previously reported stolen, the OSP uncovered an additional $590,000 and GH¢2,730,000. These revelations have further fueled allegations of corruption within the government.

Osman Ayariga’s critical remarks reflect the ongoing discourse surrounding corruption issues within the Akufo-Addo administration, adding to the broader conversation about ethical governance and accountability in Ghanaian politics.

  • New BoG office 6x pricier than Kempinski – NDC

New BoG office 6x pricier than Kempinski – NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has challenged the Bank of Ghana’s (BoG) rationale for constructing a new headquarters, especially in the wake of a substantial loss in 2022.

The opposition party views the Central Bank’s explanation for this decision as “absurd, to say the least.” The Bank of Ghana defended its choice, stating that its existing headquarters lacked structural integrity following a thorough assessment.

According to the Central Bank, “The structural integrity assessment revealed that the main building does not meet the required level of strength necessary for safe usage. This deficiency means that the building may suffer significant damage in an extreme scenario such as unusually strong winds or a major earthquake, which is expected in the Accra region. Considering our strategic goal of positioning Ghana as the financial hub of the sub-region, with the potential of hosting a future regional Central Bank.”

Nonetheless, the NDC’s Members of Parliament, led by Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, have expressed skepticism. They noted that previous governors, even during periods of consistent profits, did not deem a new headquarters necessary. Instead, they opted to relocate certain bank operations to the Cedi House and Spintex Road facilities.

The NDC MPs posed a fundamental question: “If, during the NDC/Mahama government’s successive years of profit (2012-2016), the Bank of Ghana did not find it urgent to construct a new office complex but rather invested in building a hospital to support the nation’s healthcare needs, how can the Bank of Ghana justify prioritizing a new $250 million office complex when it has incurred an unprecedented loss of GHS 60.8 billion and a negative equity of GHS 55.1 billion?”

The NDC’s statement compared the cost of the new headquarters unfavorably to other prominent structures, such as the ultramodern Ecobank Head Office building and the Kempinski hotel in Accra.

They pointed out that the cost of the new Bank of Ghana headquarters could instead be used to build thousands of new classrooms and healthcare facilities.

The NDC described the Central Bank’s decision as extravagant, highlighting that the substantial cost could have been directed towards more pressing matters, especially when considering the need for immediate recapitalization.

In essence, the NDC is raising concerns about the Bank of Ghana’s decision to prioritize a new headquarters amidst financial challenges and a significant loss, questioning the justification for such an expenditure.

Akufo-Addo’s conduct on Niger crisis is disappointing – NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) party, has voiced disappointment regarding President Akufo-Addo’s approach to the Niger coup issue.

In an official statement, the NDC made clear its non-support for hastily involving brave Ghanaian soldiers in any impulsive and poorly thought-out actions.

The NDC firmly believes that the pursuit of productive dialogue and skillful diplomacy should be continued.

“The NDC finds President Akufo-Addo‘s conduct deeply disheartening. His failure to present this crucial matter for parliamentary deliberation denies him a legitimate democratic mandate from the Ghanaian people’s representatives, which is essential for determining the country’s best interests.”

The NDC emphasizes the need for broader bipartisan consultations to establish a unified Ghanaian stance on such a sensitive issue.

The General Secretary of the NDC, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, stated “President Akufo-Addo’s actions stand in contrast to his attempts to educate other nations about democracy. His consistent disregard for constitutional and democratic channels to shape Ghana’s stance on critical matters of this kind is concerning.”

NDC women’s organizer in Kumawu Constituency has not been suspended – NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti region has discredited reports suggesting the suspension of a women’s organizer in the Kumawu Constituency.

Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC, in a statement clarified that the publication made by the Chronicle newspaper, which was subsequently republished by other media outlets, is untrue.

Dr. Amoakohene deemed these publications to be malicious in nature.

He also emphasized that the name mentioned in the story, Akua Afriyie, is not recognized in any of the party’s official records as a women’s organizer or party executive at the branch, constituency, or regional level.

In light of these clarifications, the NDC in the Ashanti region has expressed its commitment to accurate information dissemination and maintaining transparency within its organizational structure.

“I also want to put on record that the said name (Akua Afriyie) which is linked to the story does not exist in any of our records as a party women’s organizer or party executive either at the branch, constituency or regional level,” the Ashanti Regional Secretary, Dr. Frank Amoakohene stated.

A dedicated entrepreneur and philanthropist, Mathew Silas Amoah, has officially submitted his nomination to participate in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Primaries within the Bolgatanga East Constituency, Upper East region.

At the age of 34, he firmly believes that his dynamic youthfulness coupled with his extensive business experience positions him as the optimal choice to spearhead the NPP’s representation in the area.

Amoah remains hopeful that his potential election would result in a successful acquisition of the seat currently held by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), reflecting his aspiration to contribute significantly to the political landscape.

Meanwhile, the NPP’s upcoming presidential primaries, scheduled for August and November 2023, will involve ten candidates.

An initial super delegate conference in August 2023 will narrow the field to five contenders, followed by the main primaries in November 2023 to select the party’s presidential nominee for the 2024 elections.

The roster of candidates includes Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen, energy expert Kwadwo Poku, Attorney General and Minister of Justice Joe Ghartey, former Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, former General Secretary of the NPP Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, MP for Assin Central Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former MP for Offinso North Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, and former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko.

  • NDC is criticizing the economy because it lacks solutions – Ahiagbah

The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lacks alternative strategies to counter the government’s economic revitalization policies.

He noted that NDC members have been disparaging the economy and negating its progress.

Ahiagbah added, “the NDC’s criticism of the economy arises from their inability to provide viable alternatives to challenge the government’s policy initiatives aimed at rejuvenating our economy. The economy has taken a positive turn, and it is imperative for Ghanaians to support the government in stabilizing it.”

It’s noteworthy that the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, challenged Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s claim that the economy had turned a corner.

Dr. Forson argued that the Finance Minister’s policies exacerbated Ghana’s economic difficulties.

Ofori-Atta, during the mid-year budget review presentation, shared that the government had successfully averted dire situations, such as shortages of essential items and fuel queues. He acknowledged the collective efforts and investments made since March 2020 to navigate challenges.

Responding to Dr. Forson’s statements, Ahiagbah criticized the NDC for intentionally deceiving the public and attempting to undermine the government’s popularity. He denounced their partisan approach and highlighted their lack of substantive ideas to address the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine War.

Ahiagbah stated, “The NDC’s assertion that the mid-year fiscal revisions invalidate the notion of turning a corner is unfounded and should not be taken seriously. Their absence of constructive ideas is evident, and their strategy seems to be discrediting the government’s genuine efforts to mitigate pandemic and war-related economic impacts.”

He urged Ghanaians to recognize that if the NDC were in power, the country’s situation might have worsened due to their apparent dearth of innovative proposals.

He emphasized the need to assess the NDC’s contributions since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine War, highlighting their lack of original ideas to support economic recovery.

Former President, John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, has strongly criticized President Nana Akufo-Addo’s decision to abandon the Saglemi Housing Project and allocate over GHc500 million to the National Cathedral project.

Mahama alleged that the government’s abandonment of the Saglemi Housing Project was solely due to its initiation during his administration.

President Akufo-Addo had recently launched a new housing project with private sector support, justifying the abandonment of Saglemi due to potential increased national debt.

In response, Mahama accused the government of misplaced priorities, condemning the allocation of funds to a national cathedral while neglecting a housing project aimed at providing affordable homes for Ghanaians.

He criticized the government’s refusal to complete the Saglemi project, calling it a “humiliating slap in the face of Ghanaians” and suggesting political motives behind the decision.

Mahama emphasized the importance of prioritizing the well-being of citizens and ensuring that government resources benefit the people, regardless of the project’s initiator.

He expressed disappointment in the government’s choices, highlighting the missed opportunity to provide decent living conditions and homes for countless Ghanaian families through the Saglemi Housing Project.

“It is unacceptable for Akufo-Addo to spend over half a billion cedis on a national cathedral project that has ultimately failed due to corruption and is now abandoned, yet refuses to commit funds to complete a housing project that will benefit thousands of Ghanaian families.

“Knowing the NPP government, they did not want to complete the Saglemi housing project simply because it was initiated by John Mahama and an NDC administration.

“Leaders must always prioritise the well-being of their citizens and ensure that they benefit from government resources and projects, regardless of who initiated them.

“The misplaced priorities of a government that claim it is unable to raise money to complete the Saglemi housing project and yet is willing to spend half a billion cedis on the largest civil excavation in Africa is a humiliating slap in the face of Ghanaians who entrusted Akufo Addo with their mandate.

“Just think about the countless number of Ghanaian families who could have had decent living conditions over the past 7 years and the individuals who could have had a place to truly call home in Saglemi.

We are not against NDC – GBA President

President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Yaw Acheampong Boafo, has addressed concerns surrounding perceived bias towards the National Democratic Congress (NDC) within the association.

Mr Boafo emphasized GBA’s dedication to upholding justice and fairness for all political parties, including the NDC.

He underscored the independent and unbiased nature of Ghana’s legal system during a discussion on the Citi Breakfast Show on August 7.

Reassuring the public, Boafo asserted that the GBA maintains its impartiality and is resolute in upholding the rule of law under all circumstances.

While some members of the public have suggested that the GBA remained quiet on certain matters during the NPP administration despite being vocal during the Mills and Mahama administrations, Boafo refuted such perceptions.

He highlighted GBA’s overarching mandate to ensure justice without discrimination based on political affiliations.

Addressing these sentiments, Boafo stated, “No one can convincingly argue that the Bar treated the NDC unfairly during President Mills or Mahama’s tenure compared to the current president’s term”.

Boafo concluded by encouraging political parties and citizens to maintain trust in the judicial system’s capacity to uphold the rule of law.
