Presidency launches probe into alleged ‘sale’ of govt-sponsored overseas scholarship

The Presidency has announced a probe into allegations of bought scholarships made by a former public official during a radio discussion on Sompa FM on February 2.

During the discussion, former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, claimed that someone paid a bribe to secure a government-sponsored overseas scholarship.

Reacting to the allegations, President John Mahama has ordered the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) to investigate alleged improprieties in the award of overseas scholarships.

This comes after the former public official’s allegations garnered widespread concern and reactions from the public.

According to the Minister of State for Government Communication, Mr Felix Ofosu Kwakye, the President views such an allegation as a serious matter of grave public concern, particularly given the government’s commitment to transparency, integrity, and equal access to educational opportunities.

In the President’s directive to the NIB, he ordered an immediate probe into the matter to establish the factual basis of the claim, identify any persons involved, and determine the veracity of the allegations.

“The Bureau has also been directed to submit its findings to the President for consideration and any appropriate action that may arise,” the letter added.

The directive was contained in a letter dated February 3, 2026, signed by Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, and addressed to the Director-General of the National Investigation Bureau.

Meanwhile, allegations of bribery and corruption in Ghana’s scholarship awards are not new. The current claims by the former NEIP CEO have reignited scrutiny, but similar narratives have surfaced in the past, including petitions and investigations into the Scholarship Secretariat.

The cases of purchased scholarships in Ghana is a long-standing issue. In September last year, a group called Positive Transparency and Accountability Movement-Ghana (PTAAM-GH) petitioned the OSP to begin investigating alleged corruption at the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, which the anti-corruption institution launched the probe.

The petitioners claimed that scholarships were being awarded based on political connections, favouritism, and payments, rather than merit.

This probe followed earlier complaints dating back to 2024.

Meanwhile, in July last year, Ghanaian students on the Ghana government scholarship were reported to be in distress following various threats of eviction, revocation of visas, and potential deportation over unpaid tuition and other fees.

Earlier that month, it emerged that Ghanaian students in Memphis faced a housing eviction deadline of August 9, 2025, if they failed to pay a $3.6 million scholarship debt owed by Ghana’s Scholarship Secretariat.

The eviction threat was formally communicated to students in a circular dated July 14, 2025.

President of Memphis, Dr. Bill Hardgrave, during an interview on Action News 5’s Better on Wednesday, July 16, publicly validated the situation and the current condition of Ghanaian students facing eviction due to unpaid scholarship funds.

“The students are sponsored by the government of (sic) Ghana, which has not paid the students’ tuition for some time. I think there was a regime change in Ghana, and that affected the budget, but we’re hopeful that gets corrected because we’d love to keep those students on campus,” he confirmed.

In reaction to this, the Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, during an appearance on Joy News’ PM Express on Tuesday, July 23, revealed that the debt owed in terms of scholarship is owed to several schools across the world and not just one or two.

He said that an audit is underway to investigate the circumstances surrounding the scholarship debt crisis; however, the acting Registrar of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, Alex Kwaku Asafo-Agyei, has been on trips in the past few months to countries where students face threats of eviction, among other repercussions of the government’s failure to settle their fees.

This, he revealed, is to negotiate and to help mitigate the pressure coming from these authorities on the affected students.

“There is a debt of fees that we have across the world. And so my registrar now has to go around the world and negotiate with schools, and that is what we’ve been undertaking in the last four, five months. I keep sending him, go here, go there, because you keep getting threats all over the world: ‘We are going to sack your students.’”

The former government left a startling GHC 700 million in unpaid scholarship debt, according to the Minister. He described the current situation as a “bad, bad, bad mess” that threatens the future of Ghanaian students abroad and the country’s international reputation.

“The current bill that I have is over ¢700 million in debt that we have to find money to pay,” he said.

Given the current state of our economy and the ballooning debt crisis, the Minister was asked whether the government had enough to pay, or was even willing to pay,the GH¢700 million.

In an empathetic response, he said, “It involves Ghanaian students; it involves lives. It involves our citizens. And so we must find the money to pay.”

While admitting that Ghana currently doesn’t have this money in cash, he said negotiations are ongoing. He also commended the Chief of Staff for his input while they negotiated the terms of the debt.

“The Chief of Staff has been very helpful. With the Finance Minister and the Chief of Staff, we are working closely to offset the debt… So yes, we will pay, but we have to negotiate.”

Some schools, Mr. Opare said, have shown a positive response, understanding that the debt was inherited from the erstwhile government.

“They know that we are a new government that has come in. We inherited these problems, and so we are aligning and fixing them gradually.”

He also responded to reports of students receiving threats of eviction from their schools.

“You can’t blame this government for the mess we inherited. And most of these things have been outstanding for a year or two,” he continued.

  • Suspended staff weren’t paying taxes to the govt – NEIP Boss

Suspended staff weren’t paying taxes to the govt – NEIP Boss

Eric Adjei, Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), has exposed concerning financial irregularities within the organization, revealing that some suspended employees had been receiving payments without fulfilling their tax obligations to the government.

In an interview, Mr. Adjei explained that upon taking office, he discovered a document outlining plans for affected staff to receive a three-month severance package.

However, his investigation raised red flags when it became apparent that these individuals were being compensated through allowances rather than formal salaries—despite holding official appointment letters.

“Upon arrival at the office, I sighted a document that indicated the staff would receive a severance for 3 months,” he revealed.

Adjei noted that these staff members were not officially classified under the Public Service Commission or Civil Service and questioned the legitimacy of using operational funds to pay them.

“I know that all the people in that office are being paid from the presidency. So if you can recruit people internally and pay them, there should be a compensation in the budget line of NEIP, which we don’t have. It is operational monies they bring. So indirectly, the money supposed to be used to run NEIP is being used to pay such people,” he stated.

Highlighting the lack of formal employment recognition, Adjei said, “They are not either under the Public Service Commission or Civil Service. And so when I saw this, I said this is wrong.”

Further investigations revealed that although these employees had appointment letters, their payments were classified as allowances rather than salaries.

“When I checked the records at the Finance Department, the people that had appointment letters, if paid, it was captured as allowance. Who can keep receiving allowance for seven years in a government job when appointment letters have been issued?” he questioned.

The NEIP boss emphasized the tax implications of this arrangement, stressing that employees receiving allowances were not subjected to the same tax obligations as salaried workers.

“Every salary worker pays withholding tax. Because they were paid as allowance, they weren’t paying tax to the government,” Adjei stated.

NEIP Responds with Staff Suspension Amid Legal Scrutiny

In response to these discoveries, the NEIP has suspended staff members while management works to address the legal and administrative challenges surrounding employment formalization.

In a statement, the organization explained that legal restrictions prevent the use of operational funds for staff payments under the current circumstances.

“The legal implications surrounding employment issues prevent the use of operational resources for staff payments,” the notice stated.

The suspension, which took effect on Monday, 24th February 2025, directs all staff to refrain from reporting to work until further notice. Management has indicated that only staff whose services are deemed essential may be recalled once the situation is resolved.

“Once these issues are adequately addressed, management may recall specific staff members whose services are deemed necessary,” the statement added.

Furthermore, employees in possession of NEIP property have been instructed to return all items to the HR Officer by the close of business on Tuesday, 25th February 2025. The statement warned that “failure to return any organizational property will be treated as an act of theft.”

The NEIP has expressed gratitude to staff for their understanding and cooperation as the organization works to resolve the matter.

Suspended staff given appointment letters were paid allowances, not salaries – NEIP Boss blows alarm

Eric Adjei, Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), has raised concerns over irregular payment practices within the organization, revealing that some staff members with official appointment letters were being compensated through allowances rather than proper salaries.

In an interview, Mr. Adjei disclosed that upon assuming office, he uncovered documents indicating that some staff were entitled to a three-month severance package.

However, he found the arrangement questionable, given that these employees were not formally recognized under the Public Service Commission or Civil Service.

“Upon arrival at the office, I sighted a document that indicated the staff would receive a severance for 3 months,” he said.

According to him, the financial arrangement bypassed NEIP’s official budget. “I know that all the people in that office are being paid from the presidency. So if you can recruit people internally and pay them, there should be a compensation in the budget line of NEIP, which we don’t have. It is operational monies they bring. So indirectly, the money supposed to be used to run NEIP is being used to pay such people,” Adjei explained.

He emphasized that the affected staff were outside the scope of public sector employment frameworks. “They are not either under the Public Service Commission or Civil Service. And so when I saw this, I said this is wrong,” he added.

Following his review of financial records, Adjei discovered that payments made to these individuals were recorded as allowances, despite the issuance of appointment letters. “When I checked the records at the Finance Department, the people that had appointment letters, if paid, it was captured as allowance. Who can keep receiving allowance for seven years in a government job when appointment letters have been issued?” he questioned.

Adjei also raised concerns about potential tax violations within the arrangement. “Every salary worker pays withholding tax. Because they were paid as allowance, they weren’t paying tax to the government,” he pointed out.

NEIP Suspends Staff Amid Ongoing Legal Review

In light of these revelations, the NEIP has announced the suspension of staff as management works to address employment irregularities and legal complications.

A statement from the organization cited challenges with staff formalization and legal restrictions on the use of operational funds for staff payments. “The legal implications surrounding employment issues prevent the use of operational resources for staff payments,” the notice read.

Effective Monday, 24th February 2025, all staff have been directed to stay away from work until further notice, as management seeks to resolve the issue. “Once these issues are adequately addressed, management may recall specific staff members whose services are deemed necessary,” the statement clarified.

Additionally, employees holding NEIP property have been instructed to return all items to the HR Officer by close of business on Tuesday, 25th February 2025. The notice warned that “failure to return any organizational property will be treated as an act of theft.”

The NEIP has extended its appreciation to staff for their understanding and cooperation during this challenging period.

Suspended staff aren’t under Public Service Commission or Civil Service – NEIP Boss defends new directive

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Eric Adjei, has justified the recent suspension of staff, citing concerns over irregular employment arrangements and financial mismanagement within the organization.

In an interview, Mr. Adjei highlighted discrepancies in staff recruitment and payment structures, revealing that some employees were receiving allowances despite holding appointment letters.

“Upon arrival at the office, I sighted a document that indicated the staff would receive a severance for 3 months,” he stated.

He further explained that NEIP’s budget does not cover such compensations since these employees were reportedly being paid from the presidency’s funds rather than through a proper NEIP budget allocation.

“It is operational monies they bring. So indirectly, the money supposed to be used to run NEIP is being used to pay such people,” Adjei noted.

According to him, these individuals are not recognized under the Public Service Commission or Civil Service, making their employment status questionable.

“When I saw this, I said this is wrong. So for the past week, I’ve followed up with ministries. I just want to know the position of my workers. Where they belong,” he added.

Further investigations revealed irregularities in payment structures. “When I checked the records at the Finance Department, the people that had appointment letters, if paid, it was captured as allowance. Who can keep receiving allowance for seven years in a government job when appointment letters have been issued?” Adjei questioned.

He also pointed out the tax implications of such arrangements, saying, “Every salary worker pays withholding tax. Because they were paid as allowance, they weren’t paying tax to the government.”

NEIP Enforces Staff Suspension Amid Legal Complications

The NEIP has since suspended its staff as it seeks to resolve legal and financial issues tied to employment formalization. In an official statement, the management clarified that the suspension was necessary due to legal barriers preventing the use of operational funds for staff allowances.

“The legal implications surrounding employment issues prevent the use of operational resources for staff payments,” the notice stated.

To prevent further legal complications, the directive requires that all staff cease reporting to work from Monday, 24th February 2025, until the issues are fully resolved. “Once these issues are adequately addressed, management may recall specific staff members whose services are deemed necessary,” the notice added.

Employees in possession of NEIP property have also been instructed to return all items to the HR Officer by close of business on Tuesday, 25th February 2025. Failure to comply will be treated as theft, according to the statement.

The NEIP has expressed gratitude to its staff for their cooperation and patience during this challenging period.

NEIP suspends staff over regularizing employment challenges

The National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) has announced the suspension of its staff as it addresses complications surrounding the formalization of employment arrangements.

In an official notice issued by management, the organization explained that ongoing challenges with staff employment, coupled with legal complexities, have made it impossible to allocate operational funds for staff allowances.

“The legal implications surrounding employment issues prevent the use of operational resources for staff payments,” the statement clarified.

To avoid further legal complications, management has been directed to follow “due process in addressing all employment matters.” As part of this directive, all staff have been ordered not to report to work starting Monday, 24th February 2025, until the situation is fully resolved.

“Once these issues are adequately addressed, management may recall specific staff members whose services are deemed necessary,” the notice added.

Additionally, employees in possession of NEIP property must return all items to the HR Officer by close of business on Tuesday, 25th February 2025. The statement warned that “failure to return any organizational property will be treated as an act of theft.”

  • Mahama built hospitals in Accra; Akufo-Addo is building one in every district – Ofosu Nkansah

Mahama built hospitals in Accra; Akufo-Addo is building one in every district – Ofosu Nkansah

Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has drawn a sharp contrast between the health infrastructure efforts of President Akufo-Addo and former President John Dramani Mahama.

According to Nkansah, the current administration’s Agenda 111 project demonstrates an unprecedented commitment to equitable healthcare delivery across Ghana.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, November 28, Nkansah commended President Akufo-Addo for pursuing an ambitious vision of building hospitals in every district, describing it as a game-changer in national development.

He criticized former President Mahama’s approach, claiming it was concentrated in the Greater Accra Region at the expense of the rest of the country. “On which President did better with providing Health Infrastructure, President Akufo-Addo has ensured every District is getting a hospital, whereas Fmr. Prez Mahama built 3 or 4 big hospitals in Greater Accra, if we even grant him UGMC, which is a Prez Mills project,” Nkansah stated.

He argued that the comparison between the two leaders in terms of healthcare development is clear, emphasizing that President Akufo-Addo’s focus on district-level healthcare facilities reflects a broader, more inclusive strategy.

“Some people in Accra will draw conclusions based on 4 facilities in Gt. Accra when one president is touching every part of the country. The difference is not even close,” he added.

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has lauded President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for constructing over 200 hospitals during his tenure.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, November 26, Mr. Ofosu Nkansah described this achievement as unprecedented in Ghana’s history, emphasizing that it cements President Akufo-Addo’s status as the leader who has built the most hospitals in the country.

“President Akufo-Addo has built over 200 hospitals. Over 60 completed so far. He holds the record as the President to have built most hospitals. Yesterday, he commissioned four (4) VAMED hospitals at a go in the Ashanti Region,” he stated.

Highlighting the recent hospital inaugurations, Mr. Ofosu Nkansah mentioned the newly commissioned Sabronum Government Hospital, Sekyere Afram Plains District Hospital, Suame Municipal Hospital, and Twedie Government Hospital.

He noted that these developments reflect the administration’s commitment to improving access to quality healthcare across the nation, a legacy he believes will leave an indelible mark on Ghana’s health sector.

Trust poll projections only done by Professor Smart Sarpong – NEIP Boss

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has advised Ghanaians to trust poll projections conducted by Professor Smart Sarpong over those from Mussa Danquah’s Global Info Analytics.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, November 21, Mr. Nkansah highlighted the exceptional accuracy of Professor Sarpong’s research, particularly his 2020 general election predictions, which achieved a remarkable 99.6% accuracy rate.

“Based on historical data, we trust Prof Smart Sarpong, the Professor of statistics, over Baba Mussa the Accountant. Prof. Smart Sarpong’s 2020 prediction accuracy level was 99.6%,” he stated.

The NEIP CEO underscored the importance of relying on the most scientifically sound and credible data when forming opinions or making electoral decisions ahead of the December 2024 elections.

Mr. Nkansah encouraged the public to place their confidence in Professor Sarpong’s research outcomes, describing them as the most reliable source for understanding electoral trends.

Mahama wanted to make Flower Pot Interchange a bridge but Akufo-Addo made it an interchange – NEIP Boss

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has asserted that former President John Dramani Mahama’s administration intended to build a bridge at the Flower Pot location, but it was President Akufo-Addo who transformed the project into a full interchange after taking office in 2017.

Ofosu Nkansah’s comments, shared on his Facebook page on Tuesday, 12 November, challenge the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to clarify what, if any, preliminary work they had done on the project. His remarks come amidst claims by some NDC communicators that the Flower Pot Interchange was initiated under Mahama’s administration.

“NDC should show us the work they had done on the Flower Pot Interchange when we took over in 2017,” Nkansah stated.

He continued, “Fmr President Mahama wanted to construct a bridge, President Akufo-Addo made it an Interchange in 2017 and used GoG funds to start it before completing with this Exim Facility. How’s an intention to construct a bridge the same as construction of an Interchange?”

    Flower Pot Interchange being constructed

The debate around the project’s origins has gained attention as President Akufo-Addo prepares to officially open the newly constructed Flower Pot Interchange on 19 November 2024. Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communications at the Presidency, confirmed that the interchange is part of a larger motorway improvement initiative.

The new interchange is designed to alleviate congestion along a major route in Accra by incorporating a flyover that complements an existing underpass, providing a more efficient North-South transit solution for commuters in the city.

Govt set to commission Sewua STEM School – NEIP Boss

The government is set to officially commission the Sewua STEM School in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, according to Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme (NEIP).

In a recent post on his Facebook page, Nkansah expressed his support for the project, emphasizing the importance of STEM knowledge in nurturing an entrepreneurial and tech-savvy workforce that can drive Ghana’s economic growth. “Sewua STEM School, Ashanti, is ready for commissioning,” he posted.

The school, which focuses on advancing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, has generated significant excitement among local communities and government officials alike, who see it as a strategic move to equip young Ghanaians with essential skills for the modern world.

Many view the commissioning of the Sewua STEM School as a crucial step toward enhancing educational opportunities in the Ashanti Region and beyond.

Government communicators have voiced optimism about the initiative, believing it will help bridge gaps in STEM education throughout Ghana and reinforce the country’s commitment to sustainable development and innovation-driven growth.

As the school prepares to open its doors, expectations are high that it will set a benchmark for similar projects in other regions, playing a significant role in preparing students to meet the demands of an increasingly technology-driven world.

NEIP Boss goes hard on doubting Thomases in NPP ahead of polls

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has chided skeptical Members of Parliament (MPs) and parliamentary candidates within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who, according to him, are not fully committed to the party’s campaign as the 2024 elections approach.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, October 26, Mr. Nkansah expressed his frustration with party representatives who appear to lack faith in the NPP’s chances of winning the election.

“You are MP/PC and you are telling people we will not win the election. No wonder, you are not showing any seriousness in campaigning. You do this and blame others for your issues,” he wrote.

Mr. Nkansah criticized the apparent disinterest and half-hearted efforts he has observed from some MPs and parliamentary candidates, warning that this attitude could negatively affect the party’s chances in the polls.

“BTW, we are winning this election to shame people like you. Meanwhile, when we win, such people will go lobbying for positions,” he added.

He emphasized that the outcome of the election hinges on the collective effort of all NPP members, urging them to re-evaluate their strategies and demonstrate greater enthusiasm and determination.

Expressing confidence in the party’s chances, Mr. Nkansah remains convinced that the NPP will secure victory, which he believes will serve as a lesson to those within the party who currently doubt its ability to garner the support of Ghanaians.

NEIP Boss jabs InfoAnalytics’ Mussa Dankwa for ‘kindergarten research’ on 2024 polls

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has criticized the recent poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics, calling it “kindergarten research.”

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, October 23, he urged Ghanaians to disregard the poll, which shows former President John Dramani Mahama leading the 2024 presidential race.

Ofosu Nkansah dismissed the credibility of the poll, specifically targeting its methodology. He argued that Mussa Dankwa fails to account for the broader voter population and the geographical spread of the sample.

“Mussa Dankwa’s polling formula is to call say 100 people on the phone and just record the number of votes each candidate gets. He doesn’t factor in voter population or where the sample was picked from. That’s why his polls are never close to actual results,” he posted.

He further suggested that such omissions make Dankwa’s polls unreliable and often far from the actual election results. According to Nkansah, Ghanaians should not take these polls seriously, as they do not reflect the true electoral dynamics.

The poll led by Mussa Dankwa indicated that John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), holds a commanding lead over Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The data suggested that Mahama secured 51.1% of committed voters, while Bawumia trailed with 37.3%. Independent candidates Alan Kyeremanten and Nana Kwame Bediako were also featured in the poll, with support of 4.1% and 6.2%, respectively.

NEIP aims for 120,000 job creation in Skills For Jobs Project

The National Entrepreneurship and Innovations Programme (NEIP) has unveiled an ambitious initiative aimed at creating 120,000 jobs through its newly launched Skills For Jobs Project.

The project, which was launched in Accra, seeks to provide practical vocational training to 100,000 youth across Ghana, equipping them with lifelong skills to enhance employability and promote sustainable livelihoods.

The Skills For Jobs Project is part of NEIP’s efforts to tackle the persistent issue of youth unemployment in the country, particularly in rural and peri-urban areas. The programme also aims to address the growing problem of rural-urban migration by creating job opportunities locally. By the end of the project, NEIP hopes to generate 120,000 jobs for young people, contributing significantly to reducing unemployment across the nation.

Speaking at the launch, Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, Chief Executive Officer of NEIP, highlighted the program’s achievements since 2017. “We have provided business development support to about 250,000 beneficiaries, starter packs to 35,000 businesses, and funding to approximately 15,000 companies. These efforts have resulted in the creation of about 100,000 jobs,” he stated.

He further elaborated on the expanded scope of the new project, noting that it builds on the earlier Kayayei Empowerment Programme. “We are here again to unveil another impactful intervention from H.E Alhaji Dr. Mahamoud Bawumia—the Skills For Jobs project. The Vice President tasked us to train an additional 100,000 youth across the country in various skill areas,” Mr. Nkansah added.

The project will provide training in skills such as soap and detergent making, cereal processing, yoghurt and local drinks production, cosmetics, baking, beading and jewellery, pedicure and manicure, decor, makeup artistry, mobile phone repairs, CCTV installation, and entrepreneurship, among others. Trainees will be selected from districts nationwide, with the assistance of Members of Parliament (MPs) and Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).

Dr. Steven Amoah, Deputy Minister of Finance in charge of Wealth Creation, emphasized the government’s commitment to reducing youth unemployment through such projects. He also contrasted the government’s efforts with opposition policies, stating, “The NPP government is the only one that wants to provide alternative livelihoods for the youth, unlike the NDC’s focus on Okada riding.”

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, brought his campaign efforts to the streets of Odorkor on Sunday, October 13, as part of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) push towards the 2024 general elections.

Engaging residents and commuters at the Odorkor traffic light, Mr. Nkansah promoted the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and the party’s parliamentary candidate for the constituency. He highlighted the achievements of the NPP government, particularly in entrepreneurship and economic empowerment, areas where his agency has made significant contributions.

Nkansah called on the people of Odorkor to support Dr. Bawumia’s presidential bid, emphasizing his leadership qualities and commitment to national development. He also underscored Dr. Bawumia’s vision for economic transformation through digitalization and entrepreneurship, which he believes will greatly benefit communities like Odorkor, especially the youth.

As the campaign progressed, Nkansah engaged with passersby and residents, encouraging them to vote for the NPP’s candidates in both the presidential and parliamentary elections. About GHC9K is spent on a student enjoying Free SHS – NEIP boss

Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has claimed that the Ghanaian government invests approximately GH¢9,000 per student enrolled in the Free Senior High School (SHS) program.

This financial commitment, he says, ensures that students across various public schools have access to secondary education without facing financial obstacles.

Mr Nkansah emphasized that this substantial investment demonstrates the government’s dedication to providing quality education for all Ghanaian students.

He further revealed that the government allocates over GH¢9,000 for each Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) student, which is slightly more than the expenditure for SHS students.

In a Facebook post on October 9, Nkansah reiterated that education is a top priority for the current administration, recognizing its vital role in the socio-economic transformation of the country.

He stated, “On average, the government spent GH¢8,936 on SHS boarding students and GH¢9,808 on TVET boarding students for three years, based on the 2021 academic year rates.” He highlighted the impact of these programs, noting that “people who cannot save 10,000 cedis their entire life are getting their children educated for free. Impacting generations.”

Since the implementation of the Free Senior High School program in September 2017, the Ministry has achieved significant milestones, including an 11% increase in enrolment that year, which set a record with over 470,000 students enrolled in the 2017/18 academic year.

Minister of Finance Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam has reported that the government has spent GH¢9.9 billion on the Free SHS policy since its inception.

Every Ghanaian child placed in a public Second Cycle Institution through the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) is eligible for a free SHS education, reinforcing the government’s commitment to enhancing access to quality education for all.

This government-led programme provides financial assistance to help scale up innovative business ideas across various sectors.

This year’s winning entrepreneurs come from diverse sectors such as agriculture, technology, and manufacturing, all of which play a crucial role in driving Ghana’s economic development.

The GH¢3 million grant serves as seed funding to help these entrepreneurs expand their operations, enhance product development, and gain access to new markets. By empowering young business leaders, the government hopes to strengthen Ghana’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and tackle unemployment.

The NEIP Presidential Pitch is part of a broader government strategy to foster innovation and entrepreneurship among Ghana’s youth. Alongside funding, the programme also provides mentorship and business development support, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the winning businesses.

Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, the new electronic buses to be introduced by Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia are currently on their way to Ghana.

He noted that the introduction of electronic buses is set to transform the transportation sector and significantly lower commuting costs. It is expected to reduce transportation expenses by as much as 40%.

“Promise Made – Promise Delivered… Electric Buses are coming. No fuel cost, low maintenance. Public transport fare to be reduced by about 40%,” Mr Nkansah wrote in a number of Facebook posts.

He confirmed that plans and estimates for the transition from traditional diesel, gas, and petrol-powered public transport to electric vehicles have been finalized, with the buses expected to arrive in Ghana before the December elections.

Engaging traditional priests on campaign tours doesn’t make anyone evil – NEIP Boss

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has asserted that engaging with traditional priests during political campaigns should not be seen as immoral or wrong.

In a post on Facebook on Tuesday, October 1, Mr. Nkansah emphasized that Ghana is a multifaith state, and anyone seeking to serve as President must respect all major religions in the country.

“Ghana is a multifaith State. Whoever wants to serve us as President must have respect for all the major religions. Interacting with Traditional Priests on campaign tours doesn’t make anyone evil. Focus on your Religion and leave others to do theirs,” he wrote.

His remarks come in response to recent criticisms aimed at Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for engaging with traditional priests during his campaign, which some have perceived as inappropriate.

Mr. Nkansah noted that Ghana is home to a diverse array of faiths, including Christianity, Islam, and various traditional beliefs. He highlighted that this diversity is a hallmark of the nation’s cultural richness and should be celebrated rather than criticized.

Change if you made ‘NPP friends’ suffer after your appointment – NEIP Boss to politicians

The CEO of the National Entrepreneurship Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has urged government officials and prominent members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to reconcile with allies from the party’s opposition days.

Mr. Ofosu Nkansah pointed out a growing divide between the NPP leadership and some party faithful, which has led to discontent among members.

He stated, “Dear NPP Appointee/NPP person who gets Gov’t opportunities, that circle of friends you belonged to and did NPP Politics with when we were in opposition, did you maintain your relationship with them when you got your position or opportunities?”

Ofosu Nkansah added, “Some of you are too selfish and you make Party People struggle because of how you have done your Politics when we got Power. If you are like that, it’s not too late to change.”

He called for concerted efforts from NPP leaders to bridge this gap, emphasizing that internal unity is essential for mounting a strong and effective campaign ahead of the 2024 elections.

The CEO noted, “Unity within the party is not only crucial for electoral success but also for creating a cohesive team of members who can work together to champion the party’s vision.”

Mr. Ofosu Nkansah reassured party members that it is not too late for NPP bigwigs and government officials to reconcile with those who feel alienated.

  • Police’s conduct during Democracy Hub protest was professional – NEIP Boss

Police’s conduct during Democracy Hub protest was professional – NEIP Boss

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has lauded the Ghana Police Service for its professionalism in managing the Democracy Hub demonstrators, despite provocation by the protestors.

Mr. Ofosu Nkansah, in an interview with the media on Tuesday, praised the police for displaying composure in the face of unruly behavior from some of the demonstrators. According to him, the Ghana Police Service has significantly enhanced the country’s democratic image through its handling of the protest.

“We all saw that in the face of provocation, our Police remained calm and professional. This is a complete departure from the previous governments where citizens exercising their rights were assaulted by the Police. I commend the leadership of the Police Service and urge them to continue making Ghana proud among the committee of nations,” he said.

On Sunday, September 22, violent demonstrators clashed with police officers at the 37 Intersection in Accra, leading to the arrest of 42 protesters, including some conveners of the event. Footage from the scene depicted protesters engaging in physical altercations with officers, dismantling police barricades, and attacking personnel who were trying to prevent the unauthorized gathering at the busy intersection.

The clash occurred on the second day of a three-day protest, which had already seen significant disruptions. On Saturday, September 21, demonstrators blocked all directions of the 37 Intersection using vehicles and stones, set fires, harassed road users, and banged on vehicles. Some even played football in the middle of the road, adding to the chaos.

The Ghana Police Service, ahead of the protests, had issued a stern warning to the organisers, labelling their actions as “unGhanaian, uncivil, and unlawful.” They highlighted the severe inconvenience caused to the public, including commuters stuck in traffic for hours, delays in medical care, and disruptions to cultural and social events such as funerals. Commercial activities were also affected, with some people missing flights and being unable to access their businesses.

Despite offering seven alternative venues for the demonstration, the police stated that if the protesters insisted on blocking the 37 Intersection, law enforcement would take all necessary measures to maintain order and ensure the free flow of traffic. However, demonstrators disregarded these warnings, leading to the violent confrontation with police.

As a result of the clashes, 42 protesters were arrested, and about 39 of them have been remanded by the court for two weeks as legal proceedings continue.

The NEIP boss’ commendation comes in the wake of growing debate over the professionalism of the police and their approach in handling public protests.

Mr. Ofosu Nkansah emphasized that the maturity shown by the police was commendable and reflective of advanced democracies. He called for continued support for law enforcement in ensuring peace and stability in the country.

  • 62-year-old Naa Densua was never arrested during Democracy Hub demo – NEIP CEO

62-year-old Naa Densua was never arrested during Democracy Hub demo – NEIP CEO

Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme (NEIP), has refuted reports claiming that a 62-year-old woman, Naa Densua, was arrested during the recent Democracy Hub demonstration in Accra.

The protest, aimed at addressing economic hardship and governance concerns, witnessed a confrontation between the police and demonstrators, leading to several arrests. However, Mr. Nkansah categorically denied that Naa Densua was among those detained, describing the reports as false and misleading.

Nkansah explained that although several people were arrested for obstructing traffic and participating in unlawful activities, the elderly woman in question was not one of them. He clarified that Naa Densua was instead escorted by the police to secure an Uber ride, ensuring her safety during the unrest.

In a Facebook post on Monday, September 23, Nkansah urged the public and media to verify their information before disseminating such stories, warning that the spread of false claims could inflame tensions between law enforcement and protesters.

“Kindly ignore the false narrative that a 62-year-old woman was arrested during the demonstration,” he stated. “When the protesters started getting violent, the woman was escorted out of the scene. She said she wanted an Uber to her destination, and the police assisted her.”

Meanwhile, Naa Densua, a 62-year-old convener for the #StopGalamseyNow and #ReOccupyJulorbiHouse protests, has recounted her experience with the police during the demonstration at the 37 Intersection in Accra on Sunday, September 22, 2024. She claimed that there was internal conflict among police officers regarding her arrest. While one officer argued she and her granddaughter should not be detained, another took a different stance.

Elderly and minor who were arrested

Naa Densua further alleged that a policewoman manhandled both her and her granddaughter while transporting them to a vehicle with other arrested protesters. She called on child advocacy groups and international organizations, such as UNICEF and Save the Children, to intervene, condemning the treatment of her 8-year-old granddaughter, Rose, during the incident.

“We demand that the police release 8-year-old Rose, and ensure that no child is ever again caught in the crossfire of political repression. Let this be the moment that Ghana, and the world, say ‘Enough is enough!’”

“I am calling on all child advocacy groups, both domestic and international. To UNICEF, Save the Children, World Vision, and every organisation that claims to stand for the rights and protection of children – where are you now? We need your voices, your power, and your intervention,” she added.

You are to blame for not winning NPP presidential primaries – NEIP CEO to Alan

Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has called on Alan Kyerematen to take full responsibility for his failure to secure victory in the recent New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries.

According to Mr Nkansah, Mr Kyerematen’s defeat should not be attributed to any alleged “systemic mafia” within the party, but rather to his own campaign shortcomings.

This follows Kyerematen’s earlier comments, in which he hinted at a possible internal conspiracy that sabotaged his chances of becoming the NPP’s flagbearer.

Alan Kyerematen, a presidential aspirant for the 2024 general elections

In a Facebook post, Nkansah emphasised that the NPP primaries were conducted fairly, giving every candidate an equal opportunity to win the support of delegates. He argued that Kyerematen’s inability to build a strong grassroots base and connect with party members was a key reason for his loss.

“Dear Chief Alan, you have yourself to blame for not becoming the next NPP flagbearer after Prez Akufo-Addo because of how you did your internal Politics, not because of any systemic mafia or bad register. If system support resulted in automatic win, you would have won the NPP 2007 primaries,” Nkansah posted.

Nkansah further criticised Kyerematen for attributing his defeat to external factors, urging him to reflect on his own campaign strategy.

He pointed out that other candidates managed to engage with delegates more effectively, which led to their stronger performance in the polls. Instead of shifting the blame to non-existent forces, Nkansah advised Kyerematen to focus on introspection.

It’s an error to think NPP won’t win majority seats due to 2020 parliamentary results – NEIP CEO

Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has expressed optimism that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will secure the majority of parliamentary seats in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

His confidence stems from the introduction of new candidates in constituencies where incumbent Members of Parliament (MPs) had lost popularity.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, September 8, Mr. Nkansah explained that the NPP’s strategy of replacing unpopular MPs with fresh faces will help strengthen its appeal among voters. He dismissed the idea that the 2020 parliamentary results should be used as a basis for predicting the outcome of the 2024 elections.

“NPP is going to win the majority of seats in Parliament, partly because we have some fresh candidates to replace MPs who had become unpopular. You will be making a mistake if you use the 2020 Parliamentary results because some of the candidates have been changed,” he wrote.

According to him, some outgoing MPs had fallen out of favor with their constituents, leading to dissatisfaction and a loss of support in their constituencies. The decision to bring in new candidates, he said, signals the NPP’s responsiveness to the concerns of the electorate.

Mr. Nkansah highlighted that these new candidates are individuals with strong ties to their communities and are better positioned to address the needs of their constituencies. He believes this will ultimately translate into stronger support for the NPP in the upcoming elections.

The NEIP CEO further noted that the introduction of new candidates aligns with the NPP’s commitment to rejuvenating its leadership and ensuring that its representatives reflect the will of the people. He emphasized that this move will reinvigorate the party and enhance its chances of winning the majority of seats in Parliament.

NEIP plans to train 5,000 ‘kayayeis’ by December

The National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) has initiated training for head porters, commonly known as Kayayeis, as part of the Kayayei Empowerment Programme, overseen by the Office of the Vice President, in Madina and Ashaiman.

Commencing on Tuesday, May 28, the training will benefit 5,000 participants, with 600 individuals per cohort each month, continuing until December 2024.

The training modules encompass a variety of skills, including beading and jewelry, soap and detergent production, makeup artistry, baking, decor, and pedicure and manicure services, among others.

This initiative follows the inauguration of the Kayayei Empowerment Training Centre by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Tuesday, May 21, in Madina, Accra.

The Centre is well-equipped with two training rooms, three pantries, a kitchen, a clinic, 15 washrooms, five dormitories, fire extinguishers, CCTV, 24/7 security, and a food shed. Additionally, training and hostel facilities under the Kayayei Empowerment Project are located in various parts of Accra and Kumasi.

The primary aim of the Kayayei Empowerment Programme is to provide head porters with Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), imparting practical skills and knowledge to prepare participants for specific trades and occupations.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Bawumia addressed the skepticism and criticisms surrounding the project, expressing his confidence in its success and the positive impact it will have on the lives of the Kayayeis.

“When I made this promise on behalf of the government, there were many who thought it was not a realistic promise. They thought it was not possible. They said it was a 419 scheme, but I knew that ‘insha Allah’ it was possible for us to do it.”

“We had COVID in 2020, and we had to recover from it and so what we are doing for Kayayei’s today is part of a whole programme of activity of our government to help the poor and the vulnerable,” he said.
