    Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has asserted that former President John Dramani Mahama would currently be behind bars if it weren’t for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s commitment to maintaining peace.

    In an interview on Wontumi FM, Chairman Wontumi alleged that Mahama is accountable for various acts of corruption during his tenure, including the AirBus scandal.

    He emphasised that President Akufo-Addo’s decision not to prosecute Mahama is driven by a desire for national harmony.

    “… John Mahama, if not for the fact that Akufo-Addo has ruled Ghana for there to be peace, you should be in jail by now. If not for the fact that Akufo-Addo wants peace to prevail, just as we see former presidents being locked up in countries like Pakistan, the same thing should have happened here,” Chairman Wontumi stated in Twi.

    He further added, “If you look at the Air Bus scandal, the Ameri deal, and the other corruption scandals, John Mahama should have been jailed. You (Mahama) are a candidate for treason. It is Akufo-Addo who has given him a presidential pardon, that is why he is walking around freely.”

    It is noteworthy that former President John Dramani Mahama has not been implicated in any investigations related to the Air Bus scandal, both domestically and internationally, during the eight years of the Akufo-Addo government.

    About the Airbus scandal:

    The Airbus scandal involved allegations that the European aircraft manufacturer paid bribes in Ghana during the sale of three military aircraft.

    Former President John Dramani Mahama was implicated, with the former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, alleging that he was the “Government Official One” mentioned in the scandal. Mahama denied the allegations and challenged Amidu to prosecute him if he could provide evidence.

    Oheneba Aseidu, a close associate of the Ashanti Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Chairman Wontumi, has purported that the death of deputy finance minister, John Kumah is untimely.

    Speaking on Wontumi Radio, Oheneba Asiedu stated that, John Kumah was killed as a result of his close relationship with Chairman Wontumi.

    Revealing details surrounding John Kumah’s death , Oheneba Asidu explained that Wontumi and the deceased succumbed to a food poisoning incident while at Mariam Hotel in Tamale.

    “John Kumah did not die, he has been killed for what I know and what I saw. John Kumah may not be perfect but is this how he is supposed to die?,” he added.
     
    Additionally, he mentioned that the poisoned guinea fowl meat, commonly known as ‘akonfem’, was presented by a stranger to the duo was meant to end the life of Chairman Wontumi.

    Unfortunately, Chairman Wontumi started reacting to the poison after he, together with John Kumah had consumed the food.

    Oheneba Asidu who is also the morning host of Wontumi Radio, John Kumah, he said, did not show any sign of unfitness unlike Wontumi.

    He added that certain individuals within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are hiding behind the party to terminate the lives of innocent individuals.

    “People are being evil in the name of the party and I am saying this, the possible names we are hearing concerning Bawumia’s running mate, if Dr Bawumia mentions his name it will be an insult and a stab at the Chairman. 

    John Kumah passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024.

    According to reports, he collapsed in his office and was swiftly transported to a hospital for medical treatment. Subsequently, due to a decline in his condition, he was flown out of the country.

    The cause of his death is currently unknown and has taken the country by shock.

    The Member of Parliament for Ejisu in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Kumah, was known for his diverse roles as a Lawyer, Entrepreneur, and dedicated Politician.

    He is survived by Apostle Mrs. Lilian Kumah, and six children.

    Former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has reversed his earlier decision to establish his own political party.

    Previous report suggests that the legal practitioner was contemplating leaving the NPP due to being excluded from a role in the 2024 campaign.

    Expressing his frustration at being overlooked after years of service, he initially declared his intention to part ways with the party.

    However, in a recent interview with OKAY FM in Accra, Nana Obiri Boahen stated, “I have rescinded my decision to leave the party. I must say that it’s not everything I can discuss on air.”

    Simultaneously, Nana Obiri Boahen has been appointed as a co-chair of the local government subcommittee within the political party’s manifesto committee.

    The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is yet to receive official communication from the Electoral Commission (EC) regarding the schedule for this year’s general elections, a sentiment shared earlier by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

    The NPP’s Director of Research and Elections, Evans Nimako, clarified in an interview that the party had only received an invitation for an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting, scheduled for Thursday, March 7, 2024.

    This comes amidst reports of the Electoral Commission’s plans for key election activities, including nominations, balloting, and result declaration, with the NPP emphasising the absence of official communication on the broader election program.

    “The NPP has not received any official communication from the EC concerning the programme of activities for the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.”

    “All that we have gotten is a notice of invitation for an IPAC meeting to be held on Thursday 7th of this month at the EC Headquarters so I will also confirm that we have not received any such communication from the EC,” Evans Nimako stated in an Eyewitness news interview on Citi News.

    The statement echoes the sentiments previously expressed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which criticised the commission for releasing the calendar to the public.

    Reports indicate that the Electoral Commission plans to accept nominations for this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections from September 9 to 13, marking a significant countdown to the peak of the political season.

    This will be followed by the balloting for positions on the presidential ballot paper on September 23, 2024, and the parliamentary balloting on September 24, 2024.

    Furthermore, the Electoral Commission expects to declare the results of the 2024 presidential polls within three days of the voting exercise, provided everything proceeds as planned.

    As part of its activities for the 2024 general election, the Electoral Commission will conduct a voters’ registration exercise from May 7 to May 27, 2024, and will also undertake a nationwide exercise to replace missing voter ID cards starting from May 30, 2024.

    The registration exercise will be preceded by a 56-day public education campaign, which will run from April 1 to May 26, 2024.

    Anti-corruption advocate and former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, has opined that the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, holds a significant advantage due to his youth and versatility.

    Mr Amidu emphasized that this advantage positions Bawumia for potential re-elections, unlike the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) candidate, John Mahama, who is older and has limited attempts at the presidency.

    Highlighting the NPP’s incumbency advantage in the upcoming 2024 General Elections, Mr Amidu urged the NDC to focus on convincing Ghanaians with substantive messages rather than relying on slogans.

    He pointed out the NPP’s executive power and influence on electoral processes and security agencies, acknowledging that despite President Akufo-Addo’s strategic plans, the 2024 elections are not predetermined.

    Mr Amidu advised the NDC to attract disenchanted individuals from various political affiliations by rallying behind the theme “Build The Ghana We Want Together.”

    He emphasized the NDC’s challenge of presenting a candidate limited to a single four-year term, aiming to dispel comparisons to short-lived presidencies like that of Jimmy Carter.

    “The NPP has the advantage of being in government and exercising executive power with its attendant tacit influence on the electoral processes and security agencies. The NPP has a younger and more versatile Presidential Candidate who would still be young beyond elections 2024 and 2028. The NPP knows that the 2024 elections is not a fait accompli for it despite President Akufo-Addo’s long game to succeed himself with a surrogate. The NDC must also not be deceived with poll numbers or outward public displeasure with the regime because there is still some time to the elections. Anything could happen,” Mr Amidu noted.

    He continued: “The NDC on the other hand needs to entice everybody disgruntled with his present condition of life across political party lines to support its call to “Build The Ghana We Want Together” and, therefore, it has a more daunting task. Secondly, the NDC is presenting a Presidential Candidate who can assume the reins of government for only four years as a former President to nullify the perception of a Jimmy Carter-like presidency that is terminated after his first term in office. But it is in the interest of the NDC that after face-saving, the NDC must be able to win a second term of four years with a successor to John Mahama who has age on his or her side. The impression must never be created that the NDC is still not sure of contesting and winning the 2024 elections and hopes to put forward its Presidential Candidate for re-election in the 2028 election again.”

    He stressed the importance of the NDC securing a second term with a successor to John Mahama, reinforcing the perception of confidence in contesting and winning the 2024 elections.

    In a critical note, Amidu criticized both the NDC and NPP for allowing party elites to unduly influence the selection of running mates, a practice he deemed contrary to the dictates of the 1992 Constitution.

    A former National Communication Director of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has called on President Akufo-Addo to be transparent and acknowledge the return of intermittent power supply (dumsor) to Ghana.

    Buaben Asamoa, also a spokesperson for the leader of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, expressed in an interview on GHOne TV on February 28, 2024, that President Akufo-Addo’s assertion that there is no dumsor is inaccurate.

    “The president must admit that there’s some dumsor going on; because there is. Everybody is experiencing graduated twelve-hour power cuts, including me. Last night I didn’t have power. It’s a recurring process.

    “He should come out and tell us that there is a difficulty with electricity because we are experiencing dumsor in a very refined manner,” he said.

    He urged the president to admit the existence of dumsor, stating that everyone in Ghana, including himself, is experiencing some form of power cuts, often lasting twelve hours.

    Buaben Asamoa emphasized the need for transparency regarding the electricity challenges, describing the current situation as a refined form of dumsor.

    “Mr Speaker, between 2012 and early 2017, there was nothing more demoralising than the phenomenon we called DUMSOR. It was symptomatic of a dysfunctional system, and it caused widespread depression among businesses and households.

    “After that experience, my government was determined that dumsor would not be inflicted upon Ghana and Ghanaians under an NPP government, and I am glad to be able to say, so far, so good, we have managed to keep the lights on these last seven (7) years, even in the midst of a financial crisis,” he said.

    In his State of the Nation Address (SONA) in parliament on February 27, 2024, President Akufo-Addo claimed that his government had successfully averted dumsor, highlighting the contrast with the John Dramani Mahama administration’s experience.

    The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has categorically expressed his disinterest in teaming up with the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for the upcoming December elections.

    While Dr. Bawumia has not officially disclosed his running mate, Mr. Agyapong made it clear during an interview on the KSM Show on Pan African Television in Accra on Friday, February 23, that he prefers to remain on the sidelines and contribute in other capacities.

    He explicitly stated that he has no desire to become the Vice President alongside Dr. Bawumia.

    “I don’t want to be vice. What am I going to say? I believe in democracy, so I want it to work. I will stay back and watch, and whatever I have to do, I will do to contribute,” he remarked.

    “But I won’t accept vice as if, at all costs, Kennedy Agyapong has to be among the leaders. One thing I have always said is that you don’t need to be president to effect change in people’s lives. I have businesses that have employed many Ghanaians and put food on their table, and it’s self-gratifying,” Agyapong added.

    In elucidating his decision to decline the role of vice president, Mr. Agyapong emphasized his inclination to speak his mind, a characteristic he believes could potentially undermine his superior.

    Despite stepping down as Majority Leader, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu retained his position as Minister for Parliamentary Affairs.

    The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) confirmed Alexander Afenyo-Markin of Efutu as his successor during an emergency meeting in Accra on February 23. The NEC opted to maintain Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu in his ministerial role.

    Afenyo-Markin acknowledged the Speaker’s wise counsel and constant support, describing him as a mentor and a source of advice in challenging times.

    He pledged not to disappoint and acknowledged the difficulties of his new role.

    Surprised by his appointment, Afenyo-Markin confessed, “I never saw it coming,” emphasizing the challenging journey he anticipates. He vowed to persevere, citing the resilience of his predecessor, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.

    “I thank you for your wise counsel, you took me as your son. in moments of depression you were therefore me, in moments of difficulties I came to you for advice especially when expectations were not being met. I will not let you down, Their job is difficult, but the God that makes it possible for my predecessor to survive will make me survive,” he added.

    He further said he never anticipated his appointment into this new role.

    He said “I never saw it coming, it has been rough and sometimes it is as if there is no light at the end of the tunnel. I introduce to you Afenyo-Markin who takes over from me as Majority Leader,” he said.

    In turn, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, despite resigning as Majority Leader, urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawmakers and Parliament to support Afenyo-Markin in executing the government’s agenda. He emphasized the voluntary nature of his resignation and expressed gratitude to Speaker Alban Bagbin for their collaborative history.

    Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu retained his position as Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, confirmed by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NPP during an emergency meeting on February 23. The NEC communicated the decision to Parliament through NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong.

    Former Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang-Manu has conveyed his appreciation to President Akufo-Addo for the opportunity to serve in the ministerial role.

    The Dormaa Central MP disclosed that the president personally informed him of his removal in a February 14 reshuffle.

    Agyemang-Manu mentioned that President Akufo-Addo provided valid reasons for his decision to replace him as the health minister.

    He sees the reshuffling as part of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) strategy to break the eight-year cycle in governance.

    “This reshuffling will help me do something different in my life. If I tell you the number of times I have seen the sun, you will marvel. This is because I remained dedicated to the job I was given as a minister.

    “I am proud of what I have achieved as a minister. I have achieved a lot. I have no regrets. I know what I have achieved,” he said in an interview.

    A political analyst, Dr. Richard Amoako Baah has expressed deep concern regarding the recent resignation of Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who held the position since 2017.

    The former head of the Political Science Department at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) argues that the Member of Parliament for Suame was treated unfairly and allegedly pressured to step down by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2024 elections.

    In an interview on Onua FM on February 22, 2024, Dr. Amoako Baah highlighted that the NPP’s actions indicate a disregard for the consequences of their decisions and a singular focus on gaining power, even if it means sacrificing party unity.

    “They shouldn’t have treated him that way, even if they don’t agree with him. There is division in the party; their aim is just to win power, and they don’t care about who they step on in trying to achieve that power,” he said.

    Expressing his concern about potential damage to the party’s image, Dr. Amoako Baah noted the absence of a proper send-off for someone who served in parliament for an extended period.

    “As a member who has served for so long in parliament, all the parliamentarians would have met to say goodbye and give him that honour. But for this, he is being forced out because of present forces, and it is not right. For us, we are just concerned about the power,” Dr. Amoako Baah added.

    “People want to see unity, but for us, it is worse. There is complete disunity, so there is a lot of uncertainty,” he added.

    Arguing that projecting unity is crucial for winning public support, Dr. Amoako Baah suggested that the NPP’s current actions might send the wrong signal to voters.

    Speaking critically about Kufour, Kennedy remarked, “Talking about Kufour, I’ve always liked him. Very personable, very fine gentleman. But in his post-presidential years, he let the NPP down.” Kennedy believes that Kufour’s failure to intervene allowed certain factions, referred to as the “Kyebi mafia,” to exert control over the party.

    Kennedy noted, “The person who could have stopped that was Kufour, who refused to spend his political capital doing that.”

    He mentioned Kufour’s decision as particularly disappointing given Kufour’s amiable nature and the potential to prevent many of the issues that unfolded.

    However, Kennedy also acknowledged that Kufour’s lack of support for Alan may stem from the belief that Bawumia is a more suitable candidate.

    The dispute originated from a decision by the Northern regional environmental health officer overseeing staff transfers at the metropolitan health office, Sulemana Yakubu.

    Yakubu reportedly transferred 18 staff members, including an acquaintance of Mayor Salifu, leading to a heated confrontation between the two.

    According to Rainbow Radio’s correspondent, Prince Kwame Tamekloe, the disagreement escalated to the point where Mayor Salifu allegedly slapped Sulemana Yakubu three times.

    “About three weeks ago, they held a meeting at the environmental health office, where Sulemana Yakubu serves as both the Northern Regional Environmental Health Officer and the authority responsible for staff transfers.

    “It is alleged that Mayor Salifu was not pleased with the transfer of his loved one, leading to an exchange of words and ultimately, the mayor slapping Officer Yakubu three times,” he said.

    “The Northern Regional Minister has expressed disapproval of the mayor’s actions, stating that it is not appropriate…the workers are insisting that they will not feel safe working with the mayor until he issues an apology.

    “Despite the Regional Minister’s request for an apology, the mayor has refused to comply,” he added.

    The incident took place during a meeting at the environmental health office about three weeks ago.

    Despite the regional minister’s intervention, Mayor Salifu has reportedly refused to apologize to the health officer.

    The workers are adamant that they won’t feel safe working with the mayor until he issues an apology, despite the Northern Regional Minister expressing disapproval of the mayor’s actions.

    Jennifer shared her story in response to a tragic accident involving pupils from Ampeah Memorial School in Nkawkaw, where three male students and a female teacher lost their lives in a fatal motor accident on the Kumasi-Accra road.

    The accident involved a Nissan Patrol vehicle, reported to be the official vehicle of the District Chief Executive for Atwima Kwanwoma in the Ashanti region, Prince Karikari.

    The incident occurred when the vehicle attempted an unauthorized U-turn while driving on the road shoulders from the Accra-Kumasi direction near Nanchia.

    Given her past experience with an accident in 2020, Jennifer urged drivers to exercise greater caution to prevent avoidable deaths on the roads.

    According to Twum-Barima-Adu, breaking the stronghold of the NDC and NPP is essential to elect leaders who serve the entirety of the Ghanaian population.

    Describing the NPP and NDC as two sides of the same coin, Twum-Barima-Adu accused them of exploiting the country for personal gain.

    To address this, he outlined his policies, including the sale of non-profitable state enterprises, a thorough review of public procurement and contracts to ensure value for money, and the downsizing of the government.

    The National 3rd vice chairman of the NPP Alhaji Osman Masawudu, declared Farouk Aliu Mahama as the winner as he polled 495 votes out of 785 votes cast.

    According to him during the counting of the ballot papers, Farouk Aliu Mahama had secure 296 before an unknown person disrupted the process.

    The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has stated that as long as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) remains in power, Ghanaians will endure ongoing hardships.

    Criticizing the Akufo-Addo-led NPP government, Mahama accused it of lacking ideas and plans to improve the living conditions of ordinary citizens.

    “Under normal circumstances, the release of $600 million by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to the government of Ghana should provide relief to the already overburdened and suffering Ghanaian. It is, however, evident that Ghanaians will continue to suffer as long as the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia and NPP remain in office,” he added.

    In a Facebook post on Wednesday, January 24, the former President urged Ghanaians to avoid repeating mistakes from previous elections.

    “Implementing VAT on electricity consumption will increase tariffs by almost 21% and exacerbate the hardship on Ghanaians. This will affect the prices of goods, services, and transport fares.”

    “I agree with organised labour that the government must reverse its decision to start collecting VAT on electricity consumption.”

    “The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is eager and ready to address Ghana’s economic challenges and provide substantial relief to Ghanaians upon assumption of office in January 2025,” he posted.

    Mahama emphasized the readiness of the NDC to address the country’s economic challenges for the benefit of its citizens.

    Voicing concerns about the implementation of Value Added Tax (VAT) on electricity consumption, he stated that it would increase tariffs by almost 21% and exacerbate hardships on Ghanaians, affecting the prices of goods, services, and transport fares.

    Mahama supported organized labor’s call for the government to reverse the decision.

    Additionally, Mahama urged the government to exercise prudence in using the recently approved $600 million IMF bailout to address economic challenges. Despite the release of the first tranche last year, he contended that Ghanaians continue to endure difficulties.

    The disbursement, approved on January 19, 2024, follows Ghana’s successful completion of the 2023 Article IV consultation and the first review of the Extended Credit Facility arrangement.

      Deputy Finance Minister and MP for Abena Osei-Asare has urged for a clean and honorable campaign within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as it approaches its parliamentary primaries.

      Describing the election as a “family contest,” the Atiwa East lawmaker called on her supporters to avoid both direct and indirect verbal attacks on other aspirants.

      She emphasized the importance of running a clean campaign for the party’s success in the 2024 general election.

      The governing party will hold its parliamentary primaries across constituencies with sitting MPs on January 27, 2024. This marks the last internal election to select candidates ahead of the general elections.

      Osei-Asare, who is highly favored to win the upcoming primaries, stressed the need for all factions to run a clean campaign for the sake of the task ahead for the party in 2024.

      “As a family, all factions must recognize that a united front is necessary to confront the task ahead in 2024. I urge you all [my followers] to conduct a clean campaign, avoiding any form of insults,” Osei-Asare stated during a conference meeting on Saturday (23 December).

      The conference marked the beginning of Christmas activities in the constituency, an annual tradition where the MP engages with party faithful and residents.

      Present at the meeting was the former Eastern Regional Women Organizer of the NPP, Fati, who strongly endorsed the re-election of Abena Osei-Asare as the Member of Parliament for Atiwa East.

      Fati emphasized that Osei-Asare’s impeccable track record in the constituency makes her the most suitable candidate to retain the seat for the party in the upcoming parliamentary primaries.

      “This is an MP who has resourced majority of constituents and I can attest to that. The massive infrastructure she has initiated are firming up with some completed. I have been serving this party for decades and I know what I am talking about. Abena Osei-Asare is the best candidate to retain this seat.

      “I have been chastising most of the sitting MPs regarding infrastructure and I must say you are blessed to have a visionary MP. As you go to and cast your ballots I daresay that it will be politically suicidal for NPP in Atiwa East if she is not retained,” she noted.

      Expressing their displeasure, Murtala Muhammed, the MP for Tamale Central constituency, highlighted the incompatibility of holding a public office while actively participating in partisan politics.

      He urged Kwaning-Bosompem to resign and called for a thorough investigation into the matter, expressing concerns about potential conflicts of interest.

      “My expectation was that by now, the Office of the Special Prosecutor would have commenced some investigation into this matter. If indeed he had some delegates in his constituency on a payroll, how was he paying them?

      “I think that it ought to be looked at, particularly the critical role he plays as far as the accounting and finances of this country are concerned. The salary of every public officer is managed and controlled by him and the extent to which he ought to distance himself from politics,” he said.

      Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, the MP for South Dayi constituency, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that as the Accountant General, Kwaning-Bosompem should step down if engaging in partisan politics.

      He cited constitutional provisions preventing public servants from participating in such activities.

      “If the man is failing to do so, I believe the President would have asked him to resign. It simply doesn’t make sense. So I will support the call that he should resign if he wants to contest an election and I would urge the Office of the Special Prosecutor to commence an investigation into this matter.

      “You are the Accountant General of the Republic of Ghana, if you decide to engage in partisan politics, then you need to exit from office because the constitution is not saying don’t engage in politics, but it says that if you are a public servant, don’t engage in partisan politics,” he said.

      Both MPs stressed the importance of maintaining non-partisan and non-political alignment in public service roles.

      They called on Kwaning-Bosompem to voluntarily relinquish his position to uphold the integrity of the office.

      The Third National Vice Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Masawud Osman, alleges that 60% of the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) staff are opposition members.

      Additionally, Osman criticizes Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, labeling him as a criminal with corrupt tendencies. He also contends that the size of the office’s staff is excessive for the institution’s needs.

      “NDC people were engaged in electoral corruption at the time you were still Special Prosecutor but we heard nothing from you (by way of arrests), all because 60% of staff at the office are NDC sympathizers,” he stated in an interview on Original FM.

      He continued: “I can confidently tell you that he is a staunch NDC member and he has employed over 300 staff in his office who have failed to make an impact in fighting corruption.

      “The Special Prosecutor is a very corrupt and criminal person. His work is to eradicate corruption from our system but he is rather working against NPP. Akufo-Addo is committed to fighting corruption which is why he insisted on backing the office of the Special Prosecutor to fight corruption,” he stressed.

      Agyebeng has recently discussed the difficulties his office encounters with regard to court rulings.

      He clarified that any statements made about potential running mates are personal expressions and not reflective of the party’s official stance.

      This clarification follows the party’s decision on December 6, 2023, to grant an extension to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for selecting a suitable running mate.

      Earlier, both the Majority leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, and the National Women’s Organiser of the party, Obaatanpa Kate Gyamfua, had indicated that the running mate would likely be chosen from the Ashanti Region.

      However, the Communications Director emphasized that while these arguments are reasonable, the party has not officially made such a determination at this point.

      “It is a tough order to try to settle on the running mate for the party. Most people have come to make the point in relation to the vice presidential candidate from Ashanti because we have the minority as the head of the ticket and so, naturally you will want to strengthen the ticket by pulling from our natural sting hold, the Ashanti Region.

      “For me, if that is people’s speculation, it is naturally occuring because of the head of the ticket and I will not have anything else to say or oppose it. The only thing is that we haven’t decided as a party, as a national council, to say that this is who we want or the region from which the person comes from. In fact no such decision has been taken on the matter, they are speaking their mind” he said.

These statements were made during a gathering at the Accra Sports Stadium on November 4, 2023, where Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was formally introduced as the NPP’s presidential candidate.

      “So, let’s all be together, all of us have to be one and go and campaign hard. It won’t be easy, the election we are heading towards won’t be easy for us but I have the hope that if we are to be united and have the courage God will open the way for us to secure victory on 7 December 2024,” he said.

      He stressed the importance of preventing the return of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to power for a second term, particularly under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama.

      “Ghana cannot afford the return of the NDC, especially under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama,” he said.

      President Akufo-Addo has officially passed the leadership of the NPP to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, marking the conclusion of his 16-year tenure. President Akufo-Addo held this position within the party since 2007.

      According to the NPP’s constitution, Dr. Bawumia, having emerged victorious in the presidential primaries, takes over the role as the new leader of the party.

      Dr. Bawumia clinched his victory with 61.43% of the total votes, while his closest rival, Kennedy Agyapong, garnered 37.41% of the vote share. The other two contestants, Dr. Afriyie Akoto and Francis Addai-Nimoh, secured 0.75% and 0.41%, respectively.

      One of them, expressing his frustration, spoke to TV3. According to him, he believed that he had the right to vote, he skipped his mother-in-law’s burial to come to the voting centre only to be met with the news that his name was on the list.

      According to the man, he has been a long-term member of the party and even committed his personal funds for the payment of school fees of party members and other party initiatives.

      “I participate in every activity of the party in the constituency. People queue up every morning at my house to ask for school fees. If I tell you how much I invest in the party, you’d be shocked.

      “My mother-in-law is lying in bed, and I had to be there before she is buried but I’m here. I got here only to be told that my name is not on the register. They can either allow me cast my vote or they will repay all the investment I have made in the party”, he fumed while speaking to TV3.

      Meanwhile, police has restored calm at a polling station in the Asokowa Constituency after 35 members of the party discovered that their names were not on the register.

      Upon arriving at the voting centre, he was startled to learn that his name, as well as those of 34 other registered members, were missing from the voters’ register.

      In a conversation with TV3, the dismayed NPP member mentioned that he had expected to vote and had missed his mother-in-law’s burial to be present at the voting centre, but was confronted with the reality that he was not listed.
      He recounted his steadfast support for the party, highlighting that he had personally funded school fees for party members and contributed to various party endeavours.


      “I participate in every activity of the party in the constituency. People queue up every morning at my house to ask for school fees. If I tell you how much I invest in the party, you’d be shocked,” he said.

      Voting is now in progress in all 275 constituencies across the country as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) selects its presidential candidate.       The Ghana Police Service has assured the general public of its readiness to maintain law and order during the New Patriotic Party‘s flagbearer contest on Saturday, November 4. Over 200,000 delegates from across the country will participate in the election to select a candidate for the NPP for the 2024 general elections.

      In a statement signed by its director, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the Service guaranteed the provision of adequate security during and after the elections.

      The Ghana Police Service also reaffirmed its commitment to collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure peace, security, and law and order during the election.

      The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has formed a three-member committee to oversee its presidential election scheduled for November 4 in each of the 275 constituencies. The committee will consist of the Chairman of the Council of Elders, the Chairman of the Constituency Patrons, and the Constituency IT Coordinator, who will serve as the secretary.

      The primary responsibilities of these committees include ensuring the smooth conduct of the election, collaborating with the Electoral Commission and the police for security, and upholding transparency and fairness throughout the process.

      Additionally, regional monitoring teams have been established to oversee and coordinate the electoral process in their respective regions.

      The Presidential Election Committee of the New Patriotic Party is pleased to appoint a three-member committee to supervise the November 4, 2023, Presidential Elections in their respective constituencies on our behalf:

      1. Chairman, Chairman of the Council of Elders

      2. Vice Chairman, Chairman of the Constituency Patrons

      3. Secretary, Constituency IT Coordinator

      In addition, in collaboration with the Electoral Commission and the police, the committee will also be responsible for the verification and authentication of the names of delegates during the electoral process in their respective constituencies.

      The Elections Committee has also constituted a Regional Monitoring Team for each region to coordinate and supervise the entire electoral process in their respective regions.

      All issues pertaining to the elections should be reported immediately to the presidential elections committee.

      At this crucial time, we will rely on the unwavering support and cooperation of all stakeholders involved in this important exercise.

      Stop insulting each other – NPP Council Of Elders cautions presidential aspirants

      The National Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a call to all the Presidential Aspirants of the Party, urging them to uphold a peaceful election on November 4, 2023. They emphasized the importance of adhering to the Party’s Elections Committee guidelines.

      In individual meetings with each of the four contestants and their respective teams, the Council stressed the need to encourage their supporters to recognize their shared membership in the Great Elephant Party. They reminded everyone that the process of selecting one of the four honorable men to lead the Party in its quest to retain power in 2024 is an ongoing one. The Council firmly discouraged the use of insults, insinuations, attacks, and confrontations, both before and after the election.

      Additionally, the Council held discussions with the Party’s Election Committee Chairman, Prof. Mike Oquaye, and his team, regarding reported incidents of unfair treatment directed at some contestants. They urged the committee to collaborate effectively with the Electoral Commission and the Police Service to ensure discipline at all of the 276 voting centers.

      Furthermore, the Council called upon all delegates to observe the law and maintain order on Election Day, as well as during the remaining campaign period. They emphasized the importance of refraining from intimidation and hostile confrontations.

      The contestants were also encouraged to impress upon their supporters the notion that the true challenge begins after November 4.

      The Council provided unwavering assurance that the election will be conducted in a manner that is free, equitable, and transparent, ensuring the satisfaction of all parties involved.

      Additionally, the Council appealed to all party officials at every level to not only demonstrate fairness but also to refrain from making statements that could compromise the integrity of the election.

      In a statement, the Ag Chairman, Alhaji Sulemana Yiremea, said, “Patriots, in moments of tension, do remember the sacrifices endured by our forebears in building a future for us. As we share in their glory, let us aim at adding to their gains and not destroy them. God bless Ghana, God bless NPP.”

      The Council extends its best wishes to all contestants, and whoever wins on that day will have to work with all of us. The Council urges everyone to work towards a peaceful election and a better future for Ghana.
