  • Spain to cap Nico Williams against Switzerland

    Spanish-born forward Nico Williams could make his debut for Spain when they face La Romareda stadium in Zaragoza.

    The 2010 World Cup winners will play Switzerland in the UEFA Nations League and the 20-year-old winger who earned an invite is likely to make his debut.

    The fast-rising winger is expected to have some few minutes to test his abilities and, in the process, close the option so that Ghana can forget about him for a while.

    Spain will play Portugal three days later at the Municipal de Braga stadium.

    Nico Williams has been instrumental for Athletic Bilbao this season, scoring 2 goals and providing 2 assists in 6 matches.

  • Inaki and Nico Williams set for Ghana and Spain debut

    Spanish-born duo of Ghanaian descent Inaki Williams and Nico Williams are expected to make their debut for Ghana and Spain respectively.

    Ghana will play Brazil on Friday, September 23 in a pre-World Cup friendly whiles Spain take on Switzerland on Saturday, September 24.

    The pair who plies their trade for Athletic Bilbao will not be featuring for the same national team despite being brothers.

    While Inaki Williams has decided to play for his native country, his junior brother, Nico Williams has opted to play for Spain.

    The 28-year-old earned his maiden call up for the friendlies against Brazil and Nicaragua this week and he is expected to start in attack for Ghana

  • Spain call up came as surprise – Nico Williams

    Athletic Bilbao forward, Nico Williams, says his call-up to the Spain national team came as a surprise for him.

    The 20-year-old was included in Luis Enrique’s squad for the upcoming games against Switzerland and Portugal as they wrap up preparations for the World Cup.

    Nico, whose senior brother Inaki Williams, switched nationality to play for Ghana, in an interview with La Roja’s media team stated that he was not aware he had made Enrique’s initial squad.

    “I had no idea that I was in the pre-list, it has been a joy for my whole family and I am going to perform here,” he said.

    “My parents and my whole family are proud of me and now we have to continue.

    “I’m very happy to be here, I found out when the call came out. My feet on the ground, I want to work, for the coach to see me. I thank him for this opportunity and I’m going to give my best on the pitch.”

    The winger could make his debut appearance when Spain face Switzerland in their fifth group game of the UEFA Nations League on Saturday, September 24.

    Nico Williams, an athletic Bilbao attacker, showed his enthusiasm in his first call-up to the Spanish national team.

    The youngster revealed that he wants to work very hard so that he will get more opportunities under Luis Enrique.

    Spain is set to face Switzerland and Portugal during the international break.

  • Winger Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao is shocked to be called up to Spain

    Athletic Bilbao forward, Nico Williams, has revealed that he was surprise after receiving his first Spain national team invite.

    The winger, whose parents hail from Ghana, had represented Spain at junior levels and was opened to switching nationalities in future.

    However, Spain manager Luis Enrique named him in the squad for the Nations League game against Switzerland and Portugal.

    “I’m very happy to be here, I found out when the call came out,” he told Spain national team media.

  • Inaki and Nico Williams begin Ghana and Spain journey after joining teammates in camp

    Inaki William and Nico William have begun their international journey with Ghana and Spain respectively after joining their teammates in camp for September games.

    Ghana will play Brazil and Nicaragua on September 23 and 27 in a pre-World Cup friendlies whiles Spain take on Switzerland and Portugal in the UEFA Nations League games on September 24 and 27.

    Nico arrived at the Ciudad del Fútbol de Las Rozas (Madrid) on Monday to begin training with the Spanish national team ahead of their games.

    His senior brother, Inaki Williams on the other hand has joined the Black Stars team ahead of Ghana’s international friendly against Brazil on Friday.

    The Black Stars opened camp on Monday to begin preparations ahead of the game against Brazil.

    Ghana take on the five-time World Champions at the Stade de Oceane, Le Havre.

  • Our parents are very proud – Inaki Williams on scoring in the same game as his brother

    Black Stars striker Inaki Williams was overjoyed after Athletic Club’s hard-fought win over Rayo Vallecano in the Spanish La Liga on Saturday.

    Bilbao won the match 3-2, with the Ghana international and his younger brother Nico Williams, who has received a Spain call-up, scoring.

    “Everything went well. Saturday, at nine o’clock at night, we have scored the two brothers and three points. The fans and we are happy for the break. We are on the wave and we have to continue fighting for what we want, which is to be in Europe”, summed up the oldest of the Williams to the microphones of ‘DAZN’ an almost magical night at the Cathedral.


     

    “Marcelino left us a very solid base, a very reliable team at the back, very organized and this year we are making the most of our chances. Those of us at the top are having that bit of luck and efficiency, taking advantage of transitions very well and we are a very tough team,” Williams said.

    “My parents are very proud, my family, friends, my girlfriend, everyone has joined”, he also congratulated himself for being the first match since they both scored. “Yes, my parents will be happy, it’s a pride we are very happy to be together and to be able to give nights like these to the fans”, Iñaki insisted.

  • Inaki, Nico Williams score in same match after 42 games together

    The Williams brothers made history on Saturday, September 17, when they both found the back of the net for their club side, Atletico Bilbao in the Spanish La Liga.

    Inaki hit the back of the net on the 14th minute mark before Nico registered his goal on the three minutes after the half-hour mark.

    It is the first time both brothers have scored in a game despite having featured together in 42 La Liga games.


    Bilbao went on to win the fixture against Rayo Vallencano by three goals to two.

    Inaki Williams is in line to make his debut with the Black Stars during this international break whiles Nico Williams also got his first callup for the Spanish senior national side, the La Rojas.

  • Liverpool show interest in signing Nico Williams

    Reports have it that Liverpool have set their eyes on Athletic Bilbao attacker Nico Williams.

    It is said that The Reds are reportedly readying a huge £35.7m (€42m) offer to Bilbao for Williams.

    This comes after his spectacular performance in 34 La Liga games last season where he scored three goals.

    The young attacker recently won a new deal at Athletic, which included his buyout clause rising from €40m to €50m.

    Williams is expected to feature even more prominently under Ernesto Valverde this season.

    He is the younger brother of Athletic star Inaki Williams, who has decided to play for Ghana.

    Nico Williams first represented Spain with the U-18 squad in 2020, scoring two goals in four games.

    He was called up to the Spain U-19s in February 2021, and made his debut for the U-21s in September of the same year.

    Nico Williams is reported to have shown his interest to play for Ghana.
