I did not indoctrinate any child into LGBTQ community- Sister Derby debunks Sam George’s claims

Popular musician Deborah Vanessa, known as Sister Derby, has addressed the ongoing feud with MP for Ningo Prampram, Sam George.

She also provided clarity regarding her recent visit to North Legon Little Angels School.

During an interview with YouTuber Kwadwo Sheldon, Sister Derby expressed frustration over claims of friendship with Sam George during her time at KNUST.

Setting the record straight, Sister Derby affirmed that while she does not harbor hatred towards Sam George or anyone else.

She accused him of exploiting anti-LGBT+ sentiments for political gain.

She argued that same-sex relationships are deeply rooted in African history and culture.

Regarding the controversial school visit, Sister Derby denied accusations of indoctrination, clarifying that her purpose was to participate in a career day talk.

She recounted being unexpectedly bombarded with questions about LGBTQ issues by students during the event.

Disputing claims made by Sam George, she explained “I was invited to talk on career day, and there were eight authority figures in the room. So how can I be indoctrinating people?

“They were asking me questions. They brought up the LGBTQ. I didn’t bring it up. They brought it up.

“When I got there, they asked me a lot of questions, and I even wondered, when does it get to the career part?

“And they even asked me about ‘Wo Fie.’ I looked at the teachers and the other authorities, and everybody was quiet and calm, and then they (the children) started asking me what inspired the song.

“So then I told them about how an office that was set up for the safety and counseling of queer people was raided by authorities, claiming it to be a brothel and giving out wrong information about it.

“And then I linked it to the bill and told them how the bill is stupid, and we have more important issues to be focusing on, like lack of hospital beds, bad roads, lack of potable water, all these kinds of things. And then that was it.”

Sister Derby also addressed allegations that she had advised a male student to pursue a same-sex relationship with another male student, labeling such claims as lies.

“One boy asked me, ‘If he’s straight and a gay person says he’s fine, what should he do?’ I’m like, ‘Just take it as a compliment.’

Sister Derby concluded by refuting allegations and highlighting the lack of evidence supporting the accusations against her.

The interview comes amidst the legislative passage of a bill criminalizing LGBT+ activities in Ghana, awaiting the president’s approval.

  • You will be bias if Richard Sky’s case against anti-LGBTQ+ Bill is not thrown out – Sam George tells Chief Justice

You will be bias if Richard Sky’s case against anti-LGBTQ+ Bill is not thrown out – Sam George tells Chief Justice

The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, has expressed astonishment at the Supreme Court’s prioritization of legal cases.

Specifically, Sam George was taken aback by the Supreme Court’s decision to address the case of Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, the MP for South Dayi, ahead of that of private legal practitioner Richard Dela Sky.

Richard Dela Sky lodged an application with the Supreme Court on March 5, seeking a declaration nullifying the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, commonly referred to as the anti-gay bill.

The Ningo Prampram MP argued that the court’s sequencing of proceedings would have been fairer had it first considered the case concerning the anti-gay bill before turning to the matter involving the South Dayi MP.

Sam George remarked, “What is surprising to me is that the Chief Justice has not called the Richard Sky case, which is almost four weeks old, before the court to hear that, but has called the case that was less than a week old. Because it is the same principle.

“The principle the Supreme Court has espoused here, if you apply that to the Richard Sky case, that case also has to be thrown out, because it is equally very frivolous because the Supreme Court has no power to stay the hands of the president.

He continued, “But if the judiciary is not being biased, if the judiciary is showing a mind of its own, especially the chief justice, showing a mind of their own, they would have called those cases because common sense is part of legislation and the work of the judiciary.”

Sam George emphasized that an unbiased judiciary, particularly the Chief Justice, should exhibit independent judgment by addressing such cases promptly, as common sense plays a role in both legislation and judicial proceedings.

“Myopic view” ; Sam George blasts X-user for demanding “running mate from Volta Region”

Ningo Prampram Member of Parliament Sam George recently engaged in a heated exchange with a Twitter user who demanded a running mate from the Volta Region.

The Twitter user’s post was in response to Sam George’s comments about the National Democratic Congress (NDC) rewarding Volta supporters for their long standing loyalty.

Sam George’s initial post had sought assistance from a tourism expert from the Volta Region for an upcoming project.

However, when confronted by the Twitter user’s demand for a Volta Region running mate, Sam George defended the NDC’s commitment to the region and questioned what the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had done for Voltarians since 2016.

In his response, Sam George dismissed the demand as myopic and highlighted the NDC’s investments in the Volta Region, such as the University and Airport projects.

He also pointed out the significant voter support the NDC has received from the region.

The exchange sparked a mixed reaction on social media, with some advising Sam George to choose his words carefully while others urged him to remain composed.

As the country approaches the 2024 general elections, tensions and debates over leadership suitability continue to dominate the political landscape.

  • “Even the fact-check Ghana has called Bawumia a liar” – Sam George

“Even the fact-check Ghana has called Bawumia a liar” – Sam George

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George, has reaffirmed his stance on statements attributed to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, emphasizing a firm stance against deceit.

He pointed out that Dr. Bawumia has not fulfilled numerous promises made since 2021, urging Ghanaians not to be swayed by his rhetoric.

Using the popular Nigerian slang, ‘no gree for anybody,’ Sam George underscored the importance of not allowing oneself to be deceived or manipulated.

Sam George, speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb, said “When Dr. Bawumia talks, digitization has taken over corruption at the passport office, did you not see Minister for Foreign Affairs storm the place very angry to sack ‘goro boys’? So where was the digitization? Even that claim of digitization has been disputed by the Daily Graphic report of September 2016 when that project was launched. Even the fact-check Ghana has called Dr. Bawumia a liar for putting out such fake information. A man’s words are what you will judge him on. This is the same person who made promises that they will build 350 schools, promising tertiary student loan for laptops, meanwhile, he has taken money from teachers and they have not gotten their laptops yet.

“He promises that children will now get unique Ghana Card numbers from birth. This is a story that was first announced by Bawumia in November 2021. He again announced in April 2022, in June 2022, February 2023, and April 2023, so this is the 6th time Bawumia is making such a promise. The macro indicators Bawumia gave are false and misleading and you sit and ask who are his advisors.”

The Ningo-Prampram MP further stated that, “You say you are the one responsible for all digitization stuff yet you say, as for the E-Levy, I am not part of it. I mean this is a man we have come to know, to understand and recognize him for who he is, that he is a confident trickster, and he is someone who is going to trick the words and use fluency and eloquence bamboozle through Ghanaians. Right now, our eyes are open and this year, 2024, the motto is ‘no gree for anybody’ not even Bawumia and his lies.”

In a significant announcement, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has declared his intention to eliminate the contentious E-Levy, Bet Tax, and Emissions Tax if he assumes the presidency of Ghana.

This statement follows the introduction of the E-Levy in 2022, a tax that Vice President Bawumia had previously opposed but had maintained silence on until now.

In his inaugural address to the nation as the NPP flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia reiterated his disapproval of taxes on electronic financial transactions and pledged to scrap the E-Levy to foster a cashless economy.

He emphasized the importance of promoting electronic payment channels to propel Ghana towards becoming a digital and cashless society.

Additionally, Dr. Bawumia outlined plans to implement a new tax framework, which includes abolishing the Emission Tax, betting tax, and the proposed 15% VAT on electricity tariffs if it remains in effect by January 2025.

He articulated his vision of establishing a tax system that is equitable and favorable to both individuals and businesses, particularly Small and Medium-scale Enterprises (SMEs), which form the backbone of Ghana’s business landscape.

  • Stonebwoy’s team paid GHC169,000 instead of 70k to use sports stadium – Sam George

Stonebwoy’s team paid GHC169,000 instead of 70k to use sports stadium – Sam George

The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Hon. Sam George, has brought to light a financial discrepancy involving the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the renowned Dancehall artist Stonebwoy.

The NSA had initially claimed that Stonebwoy paid a sum of 70,000 Ghanaian cedis for organizing his BHIM concert at the Accra Sports Stadium during the Christmas Holidays.

However, following a thorough investigation by Hon. Sam George, it was discovered that Stonebwoy had actually paid a significantly higher amount, totaling GHC 169,000, in contrast to the originally stated GHC7000.

The revelation raises questions about the accuracy of financial transactions and transparency within the National Sports Authority.

During an interview on Adom FM, Sam George said “ my questioning (at the PAC meeting) I had evidence of GH₵70,000 Ghana cities being paid by the Burniton Music Group representatives of Stonebwoy for his Fifth Dimension concert.

“I asked the Director-General (Peter Twumasi) if GH₵70,000 had been paid to the accounts for that event and he confirmed that yes, GH₵70,000.”

“I asked him if it was sufficient for the return of the pitch, or any damages to the pitch, but he did not answer. But post the event, I have now gotten the contract that the NSA signed with the Burniton Music Group and I’ve gotten receipts of payment.

“It was not GH₵70,000. It was GH₵169,000. But it was paid in three instalments – GH₵70,000, GH₵70,000 and GH₵29,000.

“And the Director General is literally before the parliamentary select committee under oath, confirming it was GH₵70,000.”

Sam George noted that this among other activities at the NSA has influenced him to support the call for investigations into the authority by the PAC Chairman James Avesdzi Klutse.

He stated that the investigations should be done “not just by the auditor general, but even the office of special prosecutor.”

Meanwhile, the manager of Ghanaian artiste Stonebwoy, Chief Abiola, has corroborated Sam George’s claim that the musician paid more than GH₵70,000 to the National Sports Authority.

He, however, did not reveal the exact amount paid stating that as the issues unfold he does not want to go into details at the moment.

Sam George has a side boy aside a side chick – Sister Debby

Ghanaian alternative artist Sister Derby, also known as Deborah, has revived her feud with the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo Prampram, Sam George, following his assertion that he has never cheated on his wife and has no extramarital affairs.

Sister Derby swiftly responded to the politician’s statements, challenging his claim of being free from any involvement in an illicit relationship.

In an interview on the StarrChat show with Bola Ray, Sam George confidently dared any woman to provide evidence of being his mistress, emphasizing that his wife possesses all the qualities of both a wife and a mistress, fulfilling all his needs.

Sam George’s remarks have stirred a wave of reactions online, with many expressing skepticism.

Actress Adu Safowah joined the conversation, suggesting that the MP’s alleged small manhood might be a reason for his commitment to only one woman.

  • Rid yourself of the internal “decay”, NPP is not your problem – Fifi Kwetey to NDC

Rid yourself of the internal “decay”, NPP is not your problem – Fifi Kwetey to NDC

A state burial service is currently taking place at the forecourt of the State House on January 5, 2024, in honour of the late Enoch Teye Mensah, former Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo Prampram and ex-Minister of Sports, who passed away in October 2023.

During the commemorative anniversary of the 2023 edition of the 31st December Revolution in Accra, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged the party to undertake a thorough house cleaning.

He alleges that there is significant decadence within the main opposition party.

Kwetey, speaking at the event, emphasised that the NDC’s challenges surpass those of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“There is real decay and that decay continues to be in the NDC today. So, I don’t want us, the NDC, to pretend that December 31 is simply a day to bash the NPP; (the) NPP is not the issue; the issue is bigger than the NPP.

“The decay even within the NDC must stop with that blazing fire and that is what this business is about,” a charged Kwetey submitted.

He stressed that unless the NDC rids itself of internal decay, the 2024 victory will be meaningless.

“It is in vain if we win power only to continue what we see, only to do some of the things that we are seeing and only to claim we are doing less; that is not enough,” he cautioned.

On the commemoration of the second coming into office of former President Jerry John Rawlings as a military leader on December 31, 1981, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey’s comments have stirred excitement from former Deputy General Secretary Samuel Koku Anyidoho.

Anyidoho claims vindication over his stance that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was grappling with moral decadence.

In response to Kwetey’s assertion that the NDC needed to address internal issues, Anyidoho suggested that his previous expulsion from the party was a result of making similar calls.

He challenged the current chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, and the party’s leader, John Dramani Mahama, to take comparable action against Kwetey.

Anyidoho pointed out that Asiedu Nketiah, as the former party scribe, supervised the process that led to his expulsion for alleged anti-party conduct.

“Let the Chairman and the Leader of the NDC dare come out and sack the General Secretary if they have the “balls” to do so,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Sam George has a ‘side boy’ not a ‘side chick’ – Deborah Vanessa alleges

Deborah Vanessa, popularly known as ‘Sister Derby,’ has offered a response to Sam George’s assertions that he has never been involved in an extra-marital affair.

The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram made this claim during an interview with Bola Ray on the StarrChat show, challenging any woman to provide evidence of being his alleged side chick.

Sam George boldly asserted that his wife fulfills both roles as a wife and a side chick, describing her as a complete package.

This, he explained, is the reason why he has no desire for any other woman outside of his marital relationship.

“My life is work, house and church. If you know any girl anywhere, I am dating, just call her to the show, I am waiting. I am throwing a challenge out there. Anybody should bring evidence. You won’t ever see me sitting at a spot alone or with some random girl. If you see me anywhere, especially at +233, my wife is always sitting by me,” he told Bola Ray on the StarrChat show.

The remarks made by Sam George have ignited a flurry of reactions on social media, with numerous netizens expressing skepticism.

Deborah Vanessa, who has a history of disagreement with the lawmaker, didn’t shy away from joining the conversation. She took to the comments section of a blog to criticize the parliamentarian.

In her response, Deborah Vanessa suggested that in his next interview, the discourse should move beyond just ‘side chicks’ and include a discussion on ‘side boys.’

“Next time ask him same question about side boy. His answer might be different,” she wrote.

Sister Derby finds herself at odds with Sam George, a clash fueled by the parliamentarian’s fervent advocacy in Parliament for the passage of an anti-LGBTQ bill.

The Ningo-Prampram MP has been outspoken in his commitment to seeing the bill through, drawing sharp criticism from Sister Derby, who serves as a spokesperson for the LGBTQ community in Ghana.

  • Sam George wanted to join the army; this is why

Sam George wanted to join the army; this is why

Member of Parliament for the Ningo Prampram Constituency has revealed that he once wanted to join the military.

In an interview on Starr FM, he noted that he admired former President Jerry John Rawlings to the extent that he wanted to walk in his footsteps.

“Growing up, Rawlings was one of my role models, my idol. In fact, my first son (Jeremiah) was named after him, that is how much I adored the man,” he said.

He also noted that one of the factors that triggered his decisions was how Mr Rawlings was being treated at the time. Sam George said he was frustrated when the current President, Nana Akufo-Addo, who was then the Minister for Foreign Affairs, prohibited Mr. Rawlings from accessing the VIP lounge at the Kotoka International Airport and visiting military installations.

“I felt pissed off, so I said I was joining the cadet and when I finished, I was going to enlist in the army to follow Rawlings’ footsteps. I was very displeased with the way he was treated at the time. I thought it was unfair.”

He also mentioned that this informed his decision to join the cadet during his days at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and subsequently, purchased the army recruitment forms in 2005 after he graduated.

“Growing up in Nigeria,…if you live here in Ghana, you don’t understand. Rawlings is seen as a God in Nigeria, held in high esteem. Because the Nigerians had their version of Rawlings in 1979, General Idiagbon who was killed and they thought that Idiagbon was the one who was bringing discipline and started the kind of disciplinary reforms Rawlings started,” he said.

“You talk to Nigerians about Rawlings and he’s seen as a whole standard. So growing up there, it was a thing of pride. And for me to come to Ghana in 2001 when he had just left power and to see the way he was being treated, as a young boy, 17 or 18 years old, it really made my blood boil,” the Lawmaker told Host Bola Ray.

He said he was discouraged from joining the military by his mother after he bought the army recruitment forms.

  • Saglemi Housing Project: I am prepared to confront any private developer encroaching on the initiative – Sam George

Saglemi Housing Project: I am prepared to confront any private developer encroaching on the initiative – Sam George

The representative of the Ningo Prampram constituency in Parliament has made a resolute commitment to address any private developer attempting to approach the Saglemi housing project.

In his perspective, he sees the government’s choice to hand over the project to private developers as a stratagem to perpetrate theft against the nation.

During an appearance on JoyNews on August 8, 2023, Sam George expressed the emotional impact of witnessing the current state of the project, given that he had been present alongside former President John Mahama to inaugurate Saglemi.

“Saglemi is a pain in my heart, every time I drive by the place and I see the structure because, in 2016, I was with President Mahama when he took us there to commission Saglemi. When we got there, we saw it, there was life. And now to see the footage that shows the state of Saglemi is painful, it is heartbreaking.

“I am the member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, any private developer that comes there should be prepared to fight with me. We will fight them. I will carry out the warning that has been sounded by the flagbearer. Any private developer who thinks he is taking this as a gift from the government and wants to sell this to themselves,” he said.

Commenced in 2012 with the aim of providing 5,000 housing units at an overall expenditure of US$200 million, the Saglemi Housing project’s progress has been modest, with only 1,506 of the intended 5,000 units underway.

Concurrently, the government has unveiled a new housing endeavor, involving private developers, that seeks to erect 14,000 housing units.

This scenario has sparked apprehensions regarding the perceived neglect of the Saglemi Housing project.

  • Akufo-Addo is a ‘sound bite President’; he only speaks, he doesn’t act – Sam George

Akufo-Addo is a ‘sound bite President’; he only speaks, he doesn’t act – Sam George

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has labeled President Akufo-Addo as a “sound bite President,” alleging that the President’s speeches contradict his actions.

In a scathing assessment of the Akufo-Addo-led administration, Sam George did not mince words in expressing his dissatisfaction with what he perceives as a lack of substantial progress under President Akufo-Addo’s leadership.

During an interaction with host of the AM Show, Benjamin Akapko, Mr George remarked that “Akufo-Addo is all talk and no action . He’s a soundbite president. He says the things that will give him all these citations but he doesn’t do anything.”

The legislator’s comment was in reaction to a medal of merit in leadership award conferred on President Akufo-Addo by the African Bar Association.

The award, according to the President of the Association, Hannibal Egbe Uwaifo, was conferred on President Akufo-Addo because he is “a pan Africanist, Anti-Corruption Crusader, a rare democratic leader in the field of good governance, a true African Statesman whose legacies present African leaders must emulate, and we are minded to say will stand the test of time.”

However, in a reaction, Mr Nartey George said the African Bar Association has lost its credibility for giving the award to Mr Akufo-Addo on the aforementioned grounds.

“Akufo- Addo is not a respector of democratic freedoms, he’s not diplomatic, he fights media men, leading journalists have had to run away because Akufo-Addo could not stand them. So how do you tell me that such a person is a respecter of democratic freedoms?” he said.

He further accused the President of fighting against institutions and individuals assisting in the fight against corruption. He cited for instance that the killers of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale remain unpunished while the President touts himself as a democratic leader.

“He’s not just fighting media houses, he even summoned the diplomatic Corps to Peduase and warned them to stop talking about the problems of Ghana…That’s how intelligent our President is,” Mr George added.

We don’t want ‘Ayawaso West Wougon’ – Sam George tells soldiers in the face

Ningo Prampram MP, Sam George, has been captured on video engaging in a banter with some soldiers over the assault launched on him by some security personnel during the Ayawaso West Wuoguon by-election.

In the video sighted by The Independent Ghana, the legislator is seen and heard questioning the presence of military escorts at an election ground during the Assin North by-election held on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, and telling them not to repeat the 2019 incident.

“It’s only the President and the Vice President and of late, the Attorney General who use the military. Even the speaker was denied military service so who else will use the military? Or the Minister of Defense? Are you with the Defense Ministry?

“Chief, we don’t want any basabasa [to wit we don’t want any chaos]. We don’t want any Ayawaso West Wuoguon. You see, today I’m not wearing any tactica I’m wearing civilian,” he said and appealed to the military men not to facilitate any chaos.

The outspoken NDC MP was assaulted by some security personnel believed to be members of the SWAT team of the Ghana Police Service at the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, in January 2019 during a by-election to elect a replacement for the then deceased MP for the area, Emmanuel Kwabena Kyeremateng Agyarko who died on November 21, 2018.

Mr. Sam George was seen in a video shouting at the security personnel in a parked vehicle, claiming they wanted to kill a man in his house.

It was during the exchange that one of the security men stepped out of the parked pick-up truck of security personnel to slap the MP.

He was then punched by another person in uniform suspected to be part of the security team.

The video which went viral on social media indicated that the attack on the MP resulted in fisticuffs between the police and supporters of the NDC.

There was also a shooting incident which resulted in the withdrawal of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), from partaking in the by-election.

The party also withdrew its polling agents and observers from the area after consulting with its parliamentary candidate.

Some National Security Operatives were alleged to have fired shots at a polling centre at La Bawaleshie, injuring about six persons believed to be NDC supporters.

Certain things must be kept private – Sam George on Yvonne Nelson’s book

A member of parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has emphasized the importance of maintaining one’s privacy when dealing with difficult life events.

His comments were part of his views on actress and movie producer Yvonne Nelson’s memoir ‘I am Not Yvonne Nelson,’ which was released earlier this week to massive reviews.

“I still hold the view that certain things ought to remain private no matter how blatant or bold you want to be. That is why there is a word called privacy,” Sam George stated on the AM Show on JoyNews on June 22.

“I will leave the jury out on that,” he replied when asked whether by the content of the book the actress had showed lack of emotional intelligence.

He also posited that the book comes across as a tell-it-all type yet in his opinion it really was a selective tell-it-all.

“Yvonne Nelson’s book is a very bold attempt at a tell-it-all, however, following all the commentary coming up, it appears it is not a tell-it-all, it is a selective tell-it-all.

“There are questions about some of the narrations that have been made, we are beginning to see a lot of pushback on social media, people disputing a lot of things that she is saying and people adding things,” the lawmaker added.

    About Yvonne Nelson’s book

“I Am Not Yvonne Nelson” is an explosive and riveting account of a young woman who sets out to discover herself but finds out that she has been living with a false identity.

The drama and the twists and turns of this moving story have all the markings of a spellbinding movie script, except that the protagonist, who is an actor, is contending with a reality that intermittently soaks her pillow with tears.

Uncharacteristic of an autobiography, the author comes to her audience stark naked. The book opens the door widely into the life of the author and exposes the good, the bad, and the ugly sides, not only of her life but also of the make-believe world of celebrities.

The launch was graced by many industry stalwarts, businessmen, and politicians, including John Dumelo, Adjetey Anang, Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, and Becca. Also present were media personalities, including Manasseh Azure Awuni, Sammy Forson, and GhanaWeb Entertainment Editor Benefo Buabeng popularly known as Abrantepa.

NDC will not go to court in 2024; we will settle the scores at the polling stations – Sam George

Member of Parliament for the Ningo Prampram Constituency, Sam Nartey George, says the National Democratic Congress, will not drag any political party or the Electoral Commission to court over electoral malpractices.

He said the party will be vigilant at the various polling stations and ensure that they (NDC) win the elections.

“We will win our elections at the polling stations and we will protect and secure the ballot boxes at the polling station. Nobody has the intention of going to court. We will settle the scores in 2024 at the polling station,” he said.

He made the remarks on the Good Morning Ghana show, where he said the opposition NDC will use what it takes to win and protect the ballots boxes in the 2024 general elections and is prepared to go against match anyone who tries to rig the elections.

“Look, this is a message to our national chairman and general secretary, we are not going to court in 2024. So, nobody in the national executive should think that anybody will follow anybody to court. The courts in 2024 are going to be at the polling station. And that’s why I call for parliamentary candidates who have what it takes to secure the ballot boxes,” he said.

“Those with investment beating the war drums, they should continue, it doesn’t take a lot to raze down people’s investment. Fifty cedis fuel and one matchstick is what is needed,” Sam George added.

Meanwhile, Sylvester Tetteh, the New Patriotic Party (MPP) Member of Parliament for Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfro dismissed the threats from his fellow lawmaker, describing them as ‘threats of a cockroach.’

Sly interjected with his rebuttal stating: “This is a threat of a cockroach, and like William Shakespeare said, cowards die many times before their death. Cowards die many times before their death. Please, stop this.”

When host of Good Morning Ghana, Randy Abbey intervened asking that Sam George finishes, his point, he took a swipe at agric minister Bryan Acheampong who recently vowed that the NPP will match the NDC in 2024 and that they won’t hand over power to them ever.

“When your boss was standing there ‘ensi da’ (it won’t happen), even him you were hailing him. We will call a spade a spade in 2024, we will settle it at the polling stations,” Sam George added.

Bunch of Kleptocrats, thieves! – Sam George, Sylvester lock horns over description of Akufo-Addo gov’t

Member of parliament for Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfro, Sylvester Matthew Tetteh, has criticized member of parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George, for chastising the Akufo-Addo-led administration over the current state of the economy.

Speaking on a panel discussion on TV3’s ‘The Big Issue’ programme, on Monday, Sam George said that the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government are full of thieves, whose only aim is to steal from the people of Ghana.

He said that after stealing all the country’s resources, the government is now going into the pockets of Ghanaians to also steal them through its domestic exchange programme,

“The recklessness and callousness of these bunch of kleptocrats that we have running this country are…,” Sam George was saying before he was interjected by Sylvester Tetteh.

The MP for Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfro described Sam George’s comments as uncivilised and urged the host of the programme to check him.

“The words being used are not the best… We should have a very civil conversation… you come to a programme and all you get is insults,” he said.

Sam George rebutted; “there can be no civility when you are stealing from me, you are stealing from my parent, you are stealing from our grandparents and you say I should be civil”.

Sylvester Tetteh, who was getting frustrated, berated Sam George for his comments saying, “a lot of people are watching including our kids. You don’t come on TV and come and insult people.

“We come and sit on national television and all we heap on the good people of this country is full of insults. Why are you not discussing issues, the content of the subject matter you are not discussing it and you come here and insult people? What kind of attitude is this.”

Akufo-Addo’s govt is wicked and incompetent – Sam George on proposed new debt restructuring

The Akufo-Addo administration has been characterized as wicked and incompetent by Samuel Nartey George, member of parliament representing Ningo Prampram.

His comment follows the invitation to pensioners by the Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to partake in a new debt restructuring he is proposing.

Speaking on the Big Issue on TV3 Monday April 17, he said “They have raped the public purse. They have stolen the purse, people lost money in financial clean up, debt exchange and now you are going for pensions funds and you say we shouldn’t talk.”

“This is a wicked, clueless and incompetent government,” he added.

But the Member of Parliament for Ngleshie-Amanfrom, Sylvester Tetteh said the Finance Minister is not forcing pensioners to take part in the proposal for new debt restructuring,

He says the Minister is only inviting the Pensioners.

(The Finance Minister) is only making a proposal and inviting people into it,” he said.

“He is not putting gun on the neck of the people,” he added.

Mr Ofori-Atta has proposed a new debt restructuring.

He is invitting Board of Trustees of pensions funds to permit pension funds to be added in the new proposal.

He explained that the proposal has been “crafted to facilitate the execution of the MoU, addressing the Government financial needs while maintaining the value of the pension funds.”

The proposed offer entails exchanging your current holdings of Treasury Bonds, ESLA bonds and Daakye Bonds for a menu of the currently outstanding New Bonds (issued in February 2023 and maturing in 2027 and 2028 respectively. New Bond 2027 and New Bond 2028 featuring an average coupon of 8.4 % with a ratio of 1.15x, thus entailing an increase in patrimonial value.

This complemented by an additional cash payment of 10% (strip coupon). The stream of coupons to be received as part of this proposal will therefore be 21% compared to the current 18.5% of the outstanding of old bonds.”

He further indicated that “in 2023 and 2024, both instruments will pay 5% coupon in cash and the remainder will be capitalized into the nominal amount of the two bonds in order to comply with the cash constraints and the macro-framework defined under the programme with International Monetary Fund (IMF).”

  • Akufo-Addo’s failure to sign the anti-LGBQT Bill will be politically suicidal – Sam George

Akufo-Addo’s failure to sign the anti-LGBQT Bill will be politically suicidal – Sam George

According to Samuel Nartey George, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo Prampram, it would be politically suicide should President Akufo-Addo decide not to sign the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill when Parliament approves it.

According to the MP, if the President fails to assent to the bill otherwise known as the Promotion of Proper Sexual Human Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, two-thirds of members of Parliament can vote in favour of the bill to be passed into law.

Speaking on Eyewitness News, Samuel George indicated that failure to approve the bill will be an indictment on the government.

“The President will be requested by Parliament to sign the bill into law. It will be politically suicidal, and it will mark the sound of a dead mill on his abysmal government if he said he was not going to sign that bill into law. That will be the beginning of the collapse of his government and his legacy. And so I don’t want to have that thought because I think that his advisers and handlers will advise him accordingly,” the Ningo Prampram MP said.

President Akufo-Addo during a joint press conference he had with US Vice President, Kamala Harris at the Jubilee House on Monday, disclosed that his government had intervened to modify the current anti-LGBTQ Bill.

Kamala Harris also tried to belittle Ghana’s efforts to pass the anti-LGBTQ bill.

Incensed over the comments, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin lambasted Akufo-Addo and Kamala Harris describing the comments as undemocratic.

“As the Vice President of the USA, Kamala Harris did yesterday, these things should not be tolerated, that is undemocratic. What is democracy? That someone should have to dictate to me what is good and what is bad? Unheard of, because we have decided to devalue ourselves and go begging? Come on, we have more than enough. God has created more than enough for every person, the Bill will be passed,” Bagbin added.

  • You can’t lecture us on lawmaking lessons in our country – Sam George to Kamala over LGBTQ+ bill

You can’t lecture us on lawmaking lessons in our country – Sam George to Kamala over LGBTQ+ bill

The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram Constituency in the Greater Accra region, Sam Nartey George has lambasted the Vice president of the United States of America, Kamala Harris over her comment on the the issue of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ+) activities in Ghana.

According to Sam George, the vice president, who is currently in Ghana on a mission to strengthen ties between Ghana and the United States, is unqualified to lecture Ghanaians on human rights issues because human rights violations are common in her home country.

He proceeded by suggesting that Americans should understand the legislative process in order to address such a difficult problem because human rights issues are prevalent in the US.

Speaking in an interview with Citi FM on March 28, 2023, Sam George added that the American people should visit Ghana and learn a few things about the lawmaking process from our parliament because they are willing to assist them.

“For the president to run away from his own government’s position on the Bill is unbelievable and worrying but let me assure you that we are not going to be cowed by the undemocratic comments of the American Vice President.

“The American people should be coming to Ghana to learn a few things from our Parliament when it comes to issues of lawmaking because we will be in a good position to help them,” he stressed.

He voiced unhappiness with President Akufo-Addo for his recent remarks regarding the LGBTQI+ bill when he spoke with Kamala Harris at a joint press conference.

President Akufo-Addo is quoted to have said that the anti-LGBT bill, which was championed by “only a hand full of MPs”, is currently being considered by Parliament.

Akufo-Addo added that even if the bill is passed, it will still have to be ratified by him.

It may be recalled that Kamala Harris spoke on the issue of LGBTQ+ activities while responding to a question at Jubilee House, in Accra, on Monday, March 27, Kamala Harris said that for her, the LGBTQ+ issue was one that bordered on human rights.

She added that every person has the right to live as he/she wants.

“Let me be clear about where we stand. First of all, for the American press who are here, you know that a great deal of work in my career has been to address human rights issues and equality issues across the board including those related to the LGBT community.

“And I feel very strongly about the importance of supporting freedom and supporting and fighting for equality among all people and that all people be treated equally.

“I will also say that this is an issue that we consider and I consider to be a human rights issue and that will not change,” she stressed.

DDEP: Sam George lambasts Gabby, defends Sophia Akuffo

Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has taken a swipe at NPP stalwart, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, over his comments against former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo.

Sophia Akufo joined pensioners demanding their total exclusion from government’s Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) with Gabby describing her participation in later tweets as a big error on her part.

He also questioned whether there was the need at all to engage in a picket over a DDEP that was voluntary according to the Ministry of Finance.

Reacting to Gabby’s attack on the former CJ, Sam George, defended the Madam Akuffo whiles slamming Gabby for exhibiting arrogance in his reaction to the incident.

He said on TV3’s New Day programme (February 13, 2023) that the issue was more of a family fight referencing the relationship between both actors and their common relative, president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“Under normal circumstances we would have said this ‘ebusua ntɔkwa‘ (family feud), but we can’t leave them because what they’re fighting over is public welfare, public funds, public monies that have been mismanaged”, the MP said.

He added; “And the arrogance with which Gabby is shouting down the Chief Justice who’s raising critical issues about mismanagement of our economy gets me worried.”

It may be recalled that Sophia Akuffo, joined the retirees picketing the Ministry of Finance in Accra.

The pensioners have been picketing at the premises of the ministry since Monday, February 6, 2023, over the government’s plan to involve their bonds in the DDEP.

Sophia Akufo was captured in a front-seat position at the premises of the Ministry holding a wooden placard.

Her placard read: “We use our bond yields to pay our: rent, medical bills, electricity, and water bills.”

On the other hand, leading member of the New Patriotic Party, Gabby Otchere-Darko, has stated that the gesture by the former Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo to picket at the Finance Ministry together with pensioner bondholders was done in error.

According to him, the offer to self-exempt has been given to pensioners, therefore, there is no need to picket when they could just self-exempt.

In a series of tweets on February 12, 2023, he wrote: “The former Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo, may mean well but she erred big time in her basic appreciation of the issues. Rather than asking the Govt for exemption at this late hour, why did she simply not ‘exempt’ herself from exchanging her original bond for the new one!”

“Why picket over something you don’t like (the improved offer) when you have the right not to sign up? Sorry, but I struggle to get her emotional outburst over exemption! I hope she won’t volunteer to picket tomorrow and on the same issues when the time to sign up has expired,” he added.

  • No one is larger than the NDC – Sam George

No one is larger than the NDC – Sam George

Sam George, a member of parliament for Ningo Prampram, professed confidence in the NDC’s capacity to win the 2024 general election despite disagreements between the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the minority caucus on the leadership of the minority caucus in parliament.

According to Sam George, the grass root members of the NDC have asked the MPs to solve their differences and make sure they deliver victory in the 2024 election. “Winning power is not by the big men in Accra; no big man has ever won power for any political party. Winning power comes from the hunger of the base of the party and across social media and all the platforms, what the base is saying is that MPs solve whatever issues you have, go back to parliament and deliver for us. We are focused on winning the election.”

He told Johnnie Hughes on the 3FM Sunrise Morning Show on Monday 6 February 2023 that “Winning power does not come from the big men in Accra but the masses of the people at the grass root. They have been telling us the members of parliament to deal with the situation and work together to ensure a united front towards 2024.”

Sam opined that even considering the fact that the NDC has managed to have 136 seats coming from 106 in the previous parliament is a clear indication that the NDC is serious about winning power in the next election.

He argued that around the same time in 2015, Haruna Iddrisu and Mubarak Muntaka were fresh appointees whereas the NPP had also gone to congress to elect Paul Afoko, Kwabena Agyapong and Sammy Crabbe whom the then candidate Nana Akufo-Addo said he couldn’t work with and had them suspended yet NPP won the 2016 election because the Ghanaian people voted for NDC out due to hunger and anger.

The Ningo Prampram legislator mentioned that just as the people were not happy with the NDC government though it had done creditably well, the current blatant mismanagement of the economy and the obvious discontent for the governing New Patriotic Party by the people of Ghana is indicative that NDC will win the next election hence the NPP shouldn’t see fortune in the current challenge the NDC is faced with.

A statement was issued on Tuesday, January 24 to announce the decision of the NEC of the NDC to change the leadership of the minority caucus with the Member of Parliament for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam Constituency, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, replacing Tamale South legislator Haruna Iddrisu as Minority Leader. Ellembelle’s Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah also replaced James Klutse Avedzi as Deputy Minority Leader.

However, the decision has created a sharp division among members of the minority caucus which has generated concerns within the rank and file of the largest opposition party in Ghana as the NDC anticipates a victory in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

Sam George maintained it is not every party decision that all members of the party will be happy with especially taking cognizance of the fact that a large number of the MPs have never held any party executive position before, it would have been prudent for the NDC leadership to have conferred with the members of the caucus before changing the leadership

“No individual can be bigger than the party. When the party makes a decision, you are compelled and mandated to live with it. It is not every decision of the party that every member will be pleased with however considering the stature of the people involved, and the fact that parliament is the wheel of the party made up of elected members some of whom have never held any party executive position before, consultation ought to have happened” Sam George stated

  • MPs owe bank loans the most, some take home GH¢1,000 – Sam George

MPs owe bank loans the most, some take home GH¢1,000 – Sam George

Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram has stated that parliamentarians are among the most indebted persons in the country.

Contrary to popular belief, the outspoken MP revealed that entry into the lawmaking chamber almost always comes with a rude awakening from the perception that Parliament is a land of milk and honey.

“If you come to Parliament, that is when you will know that MP-ship is all but packaging…I don’t think that there is any profession that owes bank loans like MPs,” he said in an interview on Accra-based Joy News last week.

“All the V8 that we drive is from loan. I know MPs who go home with less than 1,000 cedis because people have to take loans,” he stressed.

In a 2021 interview, Sam George said MPs take home an amount of GH¢11,000.

According to him, the GH¢11,000 is the salary MPs in the eighth parliament will be receiving until the salaries and emolument committee has been set up by the president to determine the salaries of Article 71 officeholders.

“The salary of an MP in the last Parliament is around GH¢29,000 a month and that is gross. By the time they finish the deductions, you’ll go home with GH¢11,000,” he explained.

  • Gold-for-Oil policy is a scam – Sam George

Gold-for-Oil policy is a scam – Sam George

Sam Nartey George, the representative for Ningo Prampram, has called the God-for-Oil policy government is enforcing a hoax.

According to him, the aim of the policy is to reduce the prices of oil products but the prices of these items are set to increase again this February.

Speaking in a Good Morning Ghana interview monitored by GhanaWeb, Sam George added that just like the Sinohydro deal, which was said to be a barter trade deal, the God-for-Oil policy will end up increasing the country’s indebtedness.

“The whole concept that has been built is simply part of the sloganeering of the NPP. They have built a smoke screen and behind the smoke screen are individual interests aligned with the NPP… at the expense of ordinary taxpayers.

“Dr Bawumia promised us that the God-for-Oil will give us cheaper products but this week, the prices are going up… it is obvious and clear that this God-for-Oil is a scam,” he said.

The MP added that the policy is shrouded with a lot of inconsistencies and a lack of transparency with most of the parties involved in it not known to the people of Ghana.

“We need to know who is the intermediary, and how was the intermediary selected. Who are those we are buying the product from? At what price are were being given the product, are they higher than spot price or are they market premium prices or are they lower than the market premium prices,” he said.

    Background:

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, in November 2022, announced the government’s plan to undertake the gold-for-oil initiative. The deal was hinged on buying oil products with Ghana’s gold instead of the US dollar.

Dr Bawumia, in a post shared on Facebook, explained that the usage of gold to purchase oil would address Ghana’s dwindling foreign reserves as well as reduce demand for US dollars by oil importers.

“It will fundamentally change our balance of payments and significantly reduce the persistent depreciation of our currency,” the vice president earlier wrote.

Under the policy, the government believes that using gold to purchase oil products would also bring stability to the exchange rate market and ensure domestic oil operators do not solely depend on foreign exchange to import products.

  • Even SHS headmasters don’t sit in their offices and appoint head boys – Sam George fumes

Even SHS headmasters don’t sit in their offices and appoint head boys – Sam George fumes

Samuel Nartey George, a member of parliament for Ningo Prampram, has expressed dissatisfaction with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over what he claims were insufficient consultations prior to the decision to change the leadership of its caucus in parliament.

According to Sam George, the leadership of his party failed to conduct far-reaching consultations which would have ensured adequate deliberations to save the party from the confusion that has risen from the decision.

“The problem I see MPs having, Randy, is not about the change. The problem of the caucus is not about the change; the problem of the caucus is not about the capacity of the people who are being changed; the problem of the caucus is the lack of engagement. The fact that as members of parliament we heard about a change in leadership on the radio and many of us had eggs in our faces because we said it is fake until Adabraka came out to say that yes we wrote that letter,” he stated on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Thursday, January 26, 2023.

Sam George noted that whereas the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, and the General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, have argued that wide consultations were done prior to the announcement, it cannot be said to have been sufficient in this case.

“I believe that their consultations may have been done at their level but I believe that it was not far-reaching enough. I believe that a little more consultation, in this case, engagements could have happened. They consulted based on what they said publicly with members of the council of elders and stakeholders in the party. After those consultations, they proceeded to write a letter to the speaker and that is where I think the crux of the matter is,” he stated.

A former Deputy Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has been appointed as the Minority Leader, as replacement for Haruna Iddrisu.

Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has also been named as the new Deputy Minority Chief Whip.

Kwame Agbodza takes over as Chief Whip.

Ahmed Ibrahim, MP for Banda, has been maintained as the First Deputy Minority Chief Whip, while Comfort Doyo Cudjoe-Ghansah, MP for Ada, is the Second Deputy Minority Chief Whip.

This was contained in a letter to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, from the National Democratic Congress dated January 23, 2023.
