Nottingham hospital in Ukraine moved to a new location
The Nottingham hospital is relocated to a new location in Ukraine. An ongoing contribution drop-off location for Ukraine that was under danger of closing has found a new location.
In February 2022, City Hub Ukraine opened its doors in a vacant ward at Nottingham City Hospital.
The base was declared “unsuitable” due to excessive rain, and the volunteer-run group was instructed to leave.
But now, a new location at the hospital has been identified, which, according to the volunteers, was crucial to their cause.
The centre is believed to be the sole permanent location in Nottingham where supplies are gathered for war-torn Ukraine.
The hospital initially informed Ann Vickers, who co-runs the hub with her husband Stuart, that their location in the Minster building was no longer viable owing to “continued water ingress” and that they needed to leave with “some urgency.”
The hospital has acquired a new base, and donations can be transferred in this week, Ms. Vickers has now been informed.
Julie Golding, a former nurse who has volunteered at the hub since April 2022, said it was crucial that the hub stay housed at the hospital.
We’re so handy because we’re right there, she said. We would absolutely lose that kind of donation if we moved off-site.
They were scheduled to deliver a 40th truck, carrying 24 tonnes of relief, to the nation in the coming days, Ms. Vickers.
According to the organiser, an ancient sewing machine that could operate without electricity was requested last month so that injured soldiers could use donated bedding to create knickers and pyjamas.
Last month, the organisation also dispatched an ambulance, which Ms. Vickers claimed was now “saving lives.”
The conflict won’t end, thus we must have a place to carry out this work, according to Mr. Vickers. Most likely, it’s growing worse.
He added that hub assists Ukrainians in Nottingham with moving into new residences and that they have met “great friends” who “are like family.”
Volunteering at the hub is Kherson-born Elina Babich, a Ukrainian immigrant who said: “With a family we discovered warmth, comfort, love, amazing care, and tranquilly.
“I bow to you for your kind hearts on behalf of all Ukrainian refugees accepted by the UK. Thank you so much.”
Director of estates and facilities at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, Andrew Chatten, stated: “The hub has my full support and we will do all we can to assist their efforts to provide much-needed relief to Ukraine.”

“On behalf of the family, this has come as a huge shock to everybody. We are all very upset. He was a legendary footballer but he was also an extremely nice person.”
Francis embarked on his football journey with Birmingham City, but his name etched into history when he made a groundbreaking move to Nottingham Forest in 1979.The transfer fee of over £1 million marked a British record, making him the first player to be transferred for such a colossal sum.

Man guilty of murder after setting fire to flat, killing mother and two daughters
A man was guilty of killing the mother and her two young girls after setting fire to their neighbor’s flat and then idly watching as they begged for help.
Fatimah Drammeh and Naeemah Drammeh’s flat in Clifton, Nottingham, was set on fire by Jamie Barrow, 31, in November.
The fire claimed the lives of Mrs. Hydara, 28, Fatimah, 3, and Naeemah, 1 year old, all of whom perished from smoke inhalation on November 20.
Nottingham Crown Court heard Barrow had a ‘grievance’ over rubbish being left in an alleyway and watched the fire take hold while ignoring the desperate screams coming from inside.
Barrow had already admitted manslaughter but a jury of seven men and four women unanimously convicted him of murder on Tuesday after almost seven hours of deliberations.
He was also found guilty of arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered.
Some members of the victims’ family, to whom Barrow apologised while giving evidence and who have packed the public gallery throughout proceedings, wept after the verdicts were delivered.
Barrow remained silent throughout.
In a statement, the family of the victims said: ‘Words cannot quantify how much our family have suffered because of the horrific actions of one man.
‘Neither can we quantify the emotional, psychological, physiological and financial impact of the crime Jamie Barrow committed against Fatoumatta, Fatimah and Naeemah.
‘His actions were utterly heartless and cruel – and have caused a multigenerational trauma that we will never understand.
‘Fatoumatta was a caring daughter, wife, sister, mother and friend. If love and compassion could make a person immortal, she would have lived forever.
‘She had a pure heart and was greatly loved for her personality and qualities. She was the most incredible mother to Fatimah and Naeemah, two angels who deserved a beautiful childhood and a full life.
‘Nottingham and the rest of the world have been denied potential future teachers, civil servants, doctors – who knows what they could have been?
‘They lived a short but meaningful life, such was the joy and happiness they brought to us all.’
Prosecutor Simon Ash KC told jurors Barrow had drunk ‘seven or eight’ cans of San Miguel before pouring petrol from his motorbike through the letterbox and setting it alight using tissue paper.
He said he would have known his victims were home due to a pram being left outside the door and a light coming from the hallway.
Once the fire took hold, Barrow ‘did nothing to help’ those trapped inside the first-floor flat.
Giving evidence, Barrow said he ‘can’t explain’ why he chose to target the neighbouring flat but had formed the opinion that no one was inside as he had not seen or heard his neighbours in the days leading up to the fire.
He had been suffering from a ‘very, very low mood’ and was ‘wallowing in self-pity’ in the days and hours before his actions, caused partially by his emotionally unstable personality disorder.
Barrow claimed he did not expect the fire to take hold as rapidly as it did and said he was driven to admit what he had done to police officers due to ‘an immense amount of guilt’, telling officers: ‘I need to tell you something about the fire next door.’
The jury heard he found starting fires ‘cathartic’ and gave ‘zero’ consideration to the consequences of his actions, rejecting his assertion that he had not intended to harm anyone when starting the blaze.
Thanking the jury for their service, Mrs Justice Tipples said: ‘This has been a particularly distressing case in which three people died and in those circumstances, I am going to discharge you from jury service for life.’
Barrow will be sentenced on Friday at the same court.
Detective Inspector Kaz Smithson said: ‘Jamie Barrow committed the most despicable crime anyone could ever commit. He destroyed a whole family and took away their dreams of a happy life together in America.
‘Today, justice has been served for Fatoumatta, Fatimah and Naeemah and their family, all of whom have carried themselves with incredible dignity since the night of this truly awful crime.
‘Barrow denied the killings were deliberate but, thankfully, my investigative team was able to provide overwhelming evidence that this tragic event was indeed murder.
‘We saw through his lies and, thankfully, so did the jury.
‘Barrow knew Fatoumatta and the children were inside the property when he set fire to it and that they’d have no chance of surviving.
‘It beggars belief. In my opinion Barrow is an extremely dangerous man and I am pleased he is no longer walking the streets.
‘Finally, I want to thank the family for the dignity and incredible strength that they shown during the trial and hope they can draw some comfort from today’s verdicts.’

Nottingham suspect in police custody after killing caretaker and student
The suspect has been remanded in custody after being accused of killing two children and a school caretaker in a string of attacks in Nottingham.
The 31-year-old Valdo Calocane is accused of killing Barnaby Weller and Grace O’Malley-Kumar, all 19 years old, with a knife before killing Ian Coates, 65, early on Tuesday morning.
He is also accused of hitting three other people with Mr. Coates’s stolen van, resulting in their attempted homicide.
Calocane will next appear at the city’s crown court on Tuesday, June 20.
The former University of Nottingham student spoke only to confirm his name as ‘Adam Mendes’, his date of birth and that he was of no fixed abode, and was not required to enter any pleas.
Medical student Ms O’Malley-Kumar, from Woodford in London, and history student Mr Webber, from Taunton in Somerset, were found fatally knifed on Ilkeston Road at around 4am.
Mr Coates, 65, was then found stabbed to death in Magdala Road after his van was allegedly stolen.
Calocane is alleged to have used the van to drive at a pedestrian in Milton Street and a further two people in South Sherwood Street.
Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust said two patients are stable and one has been discharged following the van incidents.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said the driver of a marked police car had sight of the vehicle for ‘less than a minute’ before it collided with the pedestrians in South Sherwood Street.
The family of Mr Webber described their ‘complete devastation’ at the ‘senseless murder of our son’, saying he was a ‘beautiful, brilliant, bright young man, with everything in life to look forward to’.
Ms O’Malley-Kumar’s family described her as a ‘truly wonderful and beautiful young lady’ and that she would be ‘so dearly missed’.
Two of Mr Coates’ sons said his death had ‘rocked everyone’s world’, adding: ‘Nobody deserves this but he definitely didn’t.’
Police revealed the suspect is a former University of Nottingham student, but said ‘this is not believed to be connected with the attack’.

Three individuals were killed in Nottingham, and a 31-year-old man has been accused of their murders.
According to police, Valdo Calocane, who does not have a known residence, was also charged today with three counts of attempted murder.
Barnaby Webber and Grace O’Malley Kumar, both 19 years old and students at the University of Nottingham, were fatally stabbed in Ilkestone Road shortly after 4 a.m. on Tuesday.
A short while later, 65-year-old school maintenance worker Ian Coates was discovered dead in Magdala Road with knife wounds.
Three people were then struck by a van and hurt, with one of those suffering critical injuries.
Chief constable Kate Meynell, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: ‘These charges are a significant development and arise as a result of our thorough investigation into these horrific incidents that occurred in our city.
‘Our thoughts remain with the families and friends of all those affected by these attacks, and we will continue to provide support and reassurance.
‘We would also ask people to respect the families’ wishes for privacy at this difficult time to allow them to grieve.’
‘This has been an incredibly sad time for our city and county, and we stand united with our communities as we come to terms with the effects of what has happened
‘We are keenly aware of the deep emotion being felt surrounding these tragic events and the high level of interest, not only in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire but also across the whole country.
‘However, posting prejudicial information online about an active case could amount to contempt of court and, in the most serious cases, have the potential to cause the collapse of a trial.’
