Soldiers would have overthrown NDC if it were corrupt like NPP – Mahama

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama, has criticized what he describes as rampant hypocrisy in Ghanaian society regarding the scrutiny of the Akufo-Addo-led administration.

During a campaign event in the Okaikwei North Constituency within the Greater Accra Region, Mahama voiced his concerns about the double standards that he believes are evident in the public’s reaction to governmental corruption.

He pointed out that the extent of corruption witnessed under President Akufo-Addo’s government would have prompted a military coup if it had occurred under an NDC administration.

“I am saying this; if this level of corruption and bribery were happening under an NDC government, by now soldiers would have overthrown our government.

“I tell you, the corruption and thievery happening under the Akufo-Addo and Bawumia government, if it were to happen under an NDC government, the government would be overthrown,” he added.

Former President John Dramani Mahama has taken aim at what he perceives as societal hypocrisy regarding the current government’s conduct.

Addressing NDC supporters in the Okaikwei North Constituency, Mahama lamented that many previously outspoken critics have gone silent under the Akufo-Addo administration but will likely reappear once the NDC is back in power.

“We always point out the hypocrisy of our society, and while I am confident that the NDC will win the upcoming election, you wait until we assume power, you will see all those who lost their voices during the NPP era suddenly regain their voices,” he stated.

Mahama expressed his frustration with the lack of vocal opposition from Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and other critical voices, arguing that their silence has allowed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to engage in misgovernance.

He suggested that these voices, currently muted, will become active again once the NDC assumes leadership.

  • We won’t back off from NDC’s strongholds – NPP

We won’t back off from NDC’s strongholds – NPP

The former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyepong, has highlighted the party’s recent strides in traditionally challenging regions as the December 7 general election approaches.

During an appearance on Peace FM, as reported by GhanaWeb, Mr Agyepong praised the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for making significant inroads in areas previously dominated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to Mr Agyepong, Bawumia’s appeal across various ethnic and religious groups has bolstered the party’s presence in regions where the NPP has historically struggled.

“I am confident that areas that were previously no-go zones, today, we are making headway. I’m not saying we are going to take them over, but at least we are challenging them on their own turf. Places like Bono East, which have historically been difficult for the NPP, we will battle it out with them.
“If Bawumia can secure about 40% of votes in NDC strongholds and add that to what we usually get in our favored regions, he will be in a very good position to win the election. I believe Bawumia will secure 53% of the votes,” Agyepong stated.

Agyepong, who previously served as Communications Director under President J.A. Kufuor, also lauded Bawumia for dispelling longstanding NDC criticisms.

He noted that the NDC had previously painted the NPP as an Ashanti-dominated party lacking respect for others, particularly targeting Zongo communities with historical grievances from the Aliens Compliance Order era.

“Our colleagues in the NDC have, since the 1992 elections, consistently spread the narrative that the NPP, which is Ashanti-dominated, doesn’t respect others. It’s even worse when they go to the Zongos because they remind people of the Aliens Compliance Order, falsely claiming that if the NPP comes to power, they will once again be driven out of Ghana, as happened during Dr. Busia’s era. So, the elderly among them who remember the hardship they went through naturally gravitated toward the NDC. This narrative has persisted, although it has diminished somewhat. It remains embedded and is not easy to overcome.

“That is why former President Mahama said we should wait and see if Bawumia would be elected as the leader of our party. The NDC said Bawumia would be used and discarded, and that the NPP would never allow a northerner to lead the party. Eventually, 61% voted for him, which is the highest any first-time presidential aspirant has ever garnered. Dr. Bawumia is a well-liked figure across the board, and party members speak highly of him. The way he has connected with people has endeared him to many,” Agyepong emphasized.

He added: “Some people abuse the platform they are given, but Bawumia has spent his 16 years as running mate and Vice President very well. He has helped people from both the Zongos and Christian communities. So, that major weapon the NDC once had — we have now disarmed them of a significant portion of their campaign propaganda. Now, we have a ‘Zongo boy’ as our flagbearer.”

Stop using galamsey as a political tool – NAPO to Mahama

The Vice Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has called on former President John Dramani Mahama to cease using the issue of illegal mining, or “galamsey,” for political gain.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh criticized Mahama for his inconsistent stance on the issue, suggesting that the former president’s actions and statements indicate a self-serving approach rather than a genuine commitment to addressing the problem.

“These plain inconsistencies by John Mahama on the subject matter of galamsey for me makes it difficult to trust John Mahama on the subject. Rather, they are thwarting the NPP government’s efforts at fighting the canker”, NPP Running Mate said.

Speaking as the Guest of Honour at the 13th Biennial Conference and 40th Anniversary of the Association of Methodist Men’s Fellowships at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology on September 14, 2024, Dr. Opoku Prempeh expressed skepticism about Mahama’s dedication to combating illegal mining.

He recalled incidents from 2020 when high-ranking NDC members were recorded encouraging illegal miners, which, according to Dr. Opoku Prempeh, led to the NPP losing seats in mining communities.

This, he said, was due to the perception that the NDC was supportive of illegal mining while the NPP was seen as opposed to it.

Dr. Prempeh also highlighted Mahama’s contradictory promises regarding galamsey. Initially, Mahama criticized the imprisonment of miners under the Akufo-Addo administration and pledged amnesty if elected.

However, he later reversed his position, vowing to prosecute illegal miners if he were to win the 2025 election.

Dr. Prempeh urged Mahama to prioritize national interests over petty politics, emphasizing the NPP’s dedication to managing Ghana’s mineral resources responsibly. He outlined the NPP’s plans under Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, including formalizing and regulating small-scale mining, establishing a Minerals Development Bank, and creating a pension scheme for small-scale miners.

He concluded by calling on the clergy to denounce politicians who exploit national issues for personal gain and challenged the NDC to demonstrate genuine commitment to combating illegal mining by signing a binding national document with the NPP. This agreement would hold all parties accountable for promoting responsible mining practices and protecting Ghana’s natural resources.

Even if you paint Manhyia gold, we still not vote for you – NPP PC to NDC

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Manhyia South, Lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has asserted that the Ashanti Region is firmly positioned to reject the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 elections.

During a health walk in Manhyia South on September 14, 2024, which featured NPP Vice Presidential candidate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Baffour Awuah emphasized the unwavering support for the NPP.

“The NDC can spread their flag all over Manhyia South, they can paint Manhyia South with gold. We have not forgotten what the NPP has done for us,” he declared.

The event was attended by key NPP figures, including General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua and Maxwell Ofosu Boakye, the Municipal Chief Executive Officer of Suame, along with other regional party officials.

Addressing the gathered supporters, Baffour Awuah praised the NPP’s accomplishments in the constituency, such as the installation of Astro Turfs and the development of the Afia Kobi Library, initiatives led by Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

He reported that after visiting about 60% of homes in his constituency, residents have expressed a resolute decision to avoid voting for John Mahama and the NDC.

“I have toured about 60% of homes in the constituency and what they are saying is that they will never vote for John Mahama; not today or tomorrow”, he stated.

“They say they remember what you (Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh) did for them hence they will never vote for Mahama, not today or tomorrow”, he reiterated.

Baffour Awuah also revealed that in the December elections, the people of Manhyia South are expected to vote overwhelmingly for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, showing their gratitude for his choice of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as his running mate.

Bawumia can’t join presidential debate if Mahama is not willing to – NPP tells IEA

The spokesperson for Dr. Bawumia’s 2024 campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has announced that Dr. Bawumia will only join the upcoming presidential debate organized by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) if former President John Dramani Mahama also participates.

The IEA has scheduled two presidential debates, for October 22 and November 19, 2024, respectively. In addition, there will be a vice-presidential debate on November 5, 2024, and five evening encounters leading up to the December 7 elections.

The first evening encounter is set for September 18, with the final one on October 15.

In an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Aboagye emphasized that while Dr. Bawumia is keen to discuss national issues, it is essential for former President Mahama to be present to ensure a balanced and comprehensive debate.

Mr Aboagye stated that since the December election is essentially a contest between Dr. Bawumia and Mahama, the debate would lack substance without Mahama’s participation.

I will vote for NPP even if it presents a “chicken” as its candidate – Supporter

A member of the Agona West Constituency New Patriotic Party (NPP), has vowed unwavering loyalty to the party, stating she would support it regardless of the candidate.

She expressed her unwavering loyalty to the party, stating that she would cast her ballot for the NPP “even if a chicken represents the NPP” emphasizing that nothing could break the strong bond of love she has for the party.

She added that all those speaking against the NPP will not have her attention as the party will forever be her favorite.

“Even if a chicken runs for election under the NPP banner, I will vote for it because we love the party,” she added.

In a related incident during the recent Ejisu by-election, another NPP supporter voiced similar sentiments in a widely circulated social media video.

The woman emphasized that she would still vote for the NPP, even if the party chose an inanimate object like a stone as its candidate.

“Even if you bring a stone as the NPP candidate, if it is NPP, I will vote for it. Lawyer go, lawyer come. If a stone is presented 100 times, I will vote for it,” she stated.

A 12-classroom block for your votes – Ken Agyapong tells Kintampo North residents

The Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong, has struck a deal with the people of Kintampo North in the Bono East Region ahead of the December polls.

Addressing the residents on Thursday, September 12, Agyapong pledged to construct a 12-classroom block if they vote in favor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He noted that, despite the residents’ repeated support for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), the party failed to provide significant assistance.

Agyapong emphasized that it is now time for the residents to back the ruling party to secure impactful development projects for the area.

He criticized the NDC for neglecting the constituency, claiming that this neglect has led to the sidelining of individuals from the area for important positions.

Agyapong highlighted the improvements since the NPP came to power, noting that Kintampo now boasts a Director General of Immigration and the Controller General from the Region.

“Do you know something, we have voted and voted but you don’t vote for NPP. For all the 32 years you have been voting you have just Deputy Minister in your constituency. Let me tell you something under Akuko-Addo government the Director General Immigration was picked from Kintampo. Controller General is also from Kintampo. If you vote for NPP, I will personally build a 12-unit classroom block for you,” he added.

GAP and NLC announce withdrawal from December polls

The National Liberation Congress (NLC) and the Ghana Alternative Party (GAP) have announced their withdrawal from the December 7 Polls.

This decision was made following an emergency meeting on September 11, led by the founder and leader of GAP, Osahene Nana Agyei Boateng.

Originally, the NLC and GAP had planned to run Stephen Atubiga as an independent candidate.

However, the parties faced obstacles, including delays in receiving the NLC’s certification from the Electoral Commission (EC) and insufficient time to update their alliance logo.

The decision was influenced by various factors, including voter feedback indicating that supporting an independent candidate might be futile due to the dominant competition between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Many voters and analysts also believe that only the major parties are equipped to effectively manage the country’s current economic challenges.

The alliance also considered that a united third force of independent candidates and smaller parties could have attracted more support. However, the fragmentation within these groups led to voter skepticism.

Despite their exit from the election race, the NLC and GAP remain dedicated to their vision and manifesto.

They intend to back any party that aligns with their objectives for the country’s benefit.

2nd Deputy Speaker, Andrew Asiama, named NPP’s PC for Fomena

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially endorsed the 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, as its parliamentary candidate for the Fomena constituency in the 2024 elections.

The endorsement was made unanimously during the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

On Thursday, the NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), announced the decision to the constituency’s leadership.

He praised Asiamah for his unwavering support and dedication, noting that the party is confident of reclaiming the Fomena seat with him as the candidate.

Chairman Wontumi emphasized the significance of Asiamah’s return, describing it as a positive signal for both the constituency and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. He expressed gratitude for Asiamah’s contributions to enhancing the party’s image in Parliament.

In his response, Asiamah expressed his deep connection to the party and his enthusiasm for leading it to a decisive victory. He called on all members to put aside differences and focus on campaigning for the party’s success, particularly by highlighting ongoing projects in the constituency.

The Regional Chairman’s visit included engagement with communities such as Adokwai, Dompoase, and Old Edubiase, where he emphasized the importance of retaining the NPP in power in the upcoming December elections.

NDC official, 2 others remanded for removing NPP’s posters in Awutu Senya West

The Awutu Bereku District Court has remanded the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Officer for the Awutu Senya West constituency, Cassius Otoo Larbi, along with two others, into police custody.

The court’s decision, presided over by Her Ladyship Naomi Konto, follows accusations that the trio threatened to harm an eyewitness who confronted them for removing posters of New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate Eugene Kofi Bentum Arhin.

The posters were allegedly removed from equipment used in the District Road Improvement Project. The suspects have been remanded for five days and are set to reappear in court on Monday, September 16, 2024.

Awutu Senya West MP Gizella Tetteh Agbotui voiced concerns that her posters had also been torn down, dismissing the court case as “petty.”

However, District Chief Executive Moses Arhinful Acquah emphasized that the case centered on the threat made against the eyewitness, not just the removal of posters.

Acquah further referenced a prior incident where Larbi and others allegedly disrupted Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s speech at the Awubia Festival by playing loud music, which attracted the attention of national security operatives.

Concerns of former members turned independent candidates are being addressed – NPP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to continue discussions with party members who are considering running as independent candidates in the upcoming elections.

With the nomination period closing on September 13, several NPP MPs, including Cynthia Morrison from Agona West and Kwadwo Asante from Suhum, who lost their bids for the party’s nomination, have signaled their intent to run as independents.

During a press conference, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong revealed that the party is in talks with these members to persuade them to reconsider their decision.

Mr Frimpong highlighted that the NPP’s parliamentary primaries were conducted fairly, reflecting the true choices of party members. He expressed hope that those who did not win would support the nominated candidates but recognized that some have chosen to run independently.

“As a party, led by the National Chairman, Mr. Stephen Ayesu Ntim. When we took over the reign as national officers, we made it a point that we ensure that there is a free, fair election in our parliamentary primary and the media can attest to it, that we organise one of the best parliamentary primaries the party has ever had.

“And the results were very clear that the people decided on who they wanted to become our parliamentary candidate in the various respective constituencies.”

“So anyone who goes to elections always has the idea that it’s either the person who wins or the person who may also lose. So as a party and a true patron, we expect that everyone who went to elections and couldn’t win will support the one who won.

“But in the case of all those who have gone as independent, the party will continue to engage them to the latter, where we realise that maybe there’s nothing more that we can do, but we still have hope that all is not lost and we shall continue to engage our members who have gone independent.”

Egyapa Mercer files nomination forms to secure Sekondi parliamentary seat

Member of Parliament (MP) for Sekondi, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, has officially submitted his nomination to contest the 2024 general elections as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate.

After completing the submission process at the Electoral Commission, Mercer expressed confidence in his ability to retain the seat he has held since 2017.

Speaking to the media, he emphasized his achievements in the constituency, including transforming Effia Nkwanta into a Teaching Hospital and initiating several road and infrastructure projects.

He believes these efforts have significantly improved the lives of Sekondi’s residents and will form the foundation of his re-election campaign.

Mercer reiterated that Sekondi has long been a stronghold for the NPP, and he is optimistic about the party’s chances of maintaining its dominance in the area.

He pledged to continue bringing development to the constituency if given another term.

He also urged NPP supporters to come together and work toward a united campaign, ensuring both parliamentary and presidential victories, particularly for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential bid.

MP for Walewale, Lariba Abudu, pulls out of NPP primaries

In light of recent events, the MP for Walewale has announced his decision to step down from the 2024 parliamentary race.

Following the chaos during the re-run of the primary election on September 9, where disruptions led to the destruction of ballot papers, the Electoral Commission (EC) could not declare a winner.

In a statement, the MP explained, “I have decided that in the interest of the greater good of the new patriotic party and peace and unity in the Walewale constituency, I will no longer be a candidate for MP in the 2024 elections. I am therefore formally withdrawing from the contest.

“I would like to thank the party for the honour done me in representing my constituency over the last four years and can assure the party of my continued support in the 2024 election campaign.”

He expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunity to serve and assured his continued support in the upcoming elections.

This withdrawal clears the path for Dr. Kabiru Tia Mahama, an advisor to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to be the NPP’s candidate for the Walewale seat in the December 2024 general elections.

The primary in December 2023, which had initially seen Dr. Kabiru narrowly defeating the incumbent MP Hajia Lariba Zuweratu, led to a court battle after Hajia Lariba contested the results, citing electoral misconduct. Though the party had sought to resolve the dispute internally, a court-ordered re-run was held, but the process was marred by violence.

Earlier this year, NPP supporters in the constituency had called for Dr. Bawumia to mediate the issue, warning that prolonged conflict could damage the party’s chances in the upcoming general elections.

Ghanaians will be doomed if NPP retains power – Former NPP General Secretary

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Ohene Ntow, has warned that Ghanaians would face dire consequences if the NPP is re-elected in the 2024 elections.

Speaking on TV3’s “Key Points” on September 7, 2024, he expressed concerns over the widespread illegal mining that has devastated the country’s water bodies, blaming the current NPP leadership for allowing the situation to persist.

Nana Ohene Ntow, who now serves as a special advisor to independent presidential aspirant Alan Kyerematen, urged Ghanaians to reject the NPP and instead support an independent candidate to rescue the nation from further decline.

“I want to go non-emotional, but let me repeat the same words. If the NPP wins the upcoming election under the current circumstances of corruption, galamsey, economic mismanagement, and hardships, Ghanaians will be finished.

“They will never respect Ghanaians anymore and will become more impudent and brazen in whatever they do. The arrogance of power will be totally uncontrollable. I believe we need an independent candidate,” he said.

Walewale NPP Primary rerun annulled due to voting disruptions

The Electoral Commission (EC) has declared the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primary for the Walewale Constituency, held on Monday, as null and void due to disruptions during the ballot sorting process that led to the destruction of some ballot papers.

As the primary was an internal party event to select a nominee for the December parliamentary elections, the EC has referred the matter back to the NPP for further action.

The party now needs to decide on a new election date before the nomination deadline for the December 2024 parliamentary elections at the end of this week.

Although the voting procedure itself went smoothly after an earlier rescheduling of the primary site, an individual attempted to flee with stolen ballot papers following the vote, which ended around 4 p.m.

Reports indicate that the suspect also tore up some of the voting papers.

Police intervened promptly, recovered the documents, and apprehended the suspect, who is currently in custody.

Influx of independent candidates proves NPP has failed – Analyst

Political analyst, Alex Emmanuel Nti has raised concerns about the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership’s difficulties in managing its members, as seen in the increasing number of individuals opting to run as independent candidates in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Nti emphasized that candidates who lose internal party elections should be persuaded to accept the results and support the winning candidate. However, he noted that the NPP leadership has struggled to achieve this, leading to a lack of unity within the party.

According to Nti, this may indicate a broader failure by the party’s leadership to enforce discipline among its ranks.

This issue is underscored by the case of former Gender Minister Cynthia Mamle Morrison, who has decided to contest as an independent candidate, claiming the backing of her constituents.

Similarly, Suhum MP Boafo Kwadwo Asante, after losing in the party’s primary, has announced his intention to run independently.

While the party has managed to persuade some candidates to withdraw their independent bids, these developments reveal underlying challenges.

Mr Nti, reacting to these events, argued that every candidate must be prepared for the possibility of losing and should adhere to the party’s systems, supporting the victorious candidate. He suggested that the party might have failed in guiding losing candidates to accept defeat and unite behind the chosen nominee.

Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Nti also speculated that some senior party members might be covertly supporting these independent candidates to weaken the party’s official contenders.

He added that candidates who feel mistreated by the party are more likely to break away and run independently.

He urged the NPP to focus on resolving internal disputes, fostering unity, and ensuring that all members back the party’s chosen candidates to improve their chances in the general elections.

Walewale: Two NPP executives suspended over misconduct

The challenges facing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Walewale Constituency of the North East Region continue to escalate, with new issues further widening existing divisions within the party.

Just 72 hours after a court ruling ordered a re-run of the Parliamentary Primary in the Constituency, two constituency executives and a party member have been suspended.

In a statement dated August 3, 2024, and signed by Fuseini Nurudeen, the North East Regional Chairman of the party, the three individuals were cited for violating their duties, which constitutes a breach of the party’s constitution.

Those affected by the suspension include Alhassan Sulemana, the Walewale Constituency Second Vice Chairman; Imoro Tonzun Mahamudu, the Constituency Financial Secretary; and Megida Saaka Sanusi, a party member.

The suspension letter states, “In line with Article 4, Clause 7(la), (e), (f), and (g) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) constitution, I regret to inform you that the following party member and constituency executives are hereby suspended from their duties, effective immediately. This decision follows a thorough review of recent events and an assessment of your conduct concerning the specified clauses of the NPP constitution. The reasons for your suspension include:

    * Violation of duties as a member.

    * Breach of the duty to uphold party policies publicly.

    * Creation of discord or factionalism within the party, actions detrimental to the party’s reputation and integrity.

    * Bringing the party into disrepute or public ridicule.

During this suspension period, you are prohibited from engaging in any political activities, including attending party meetings, making decisions on behalf of the party, or representing the party in any official capacity.

This suspension will remain in force pending further investigation and deliberation by the party’s Disciplinary Committee. • Here’s why Tamale Court declared Walewale NPP primary null and void

Here’s why Tamale Court declared Walewale NPP primary null and void

On September 2, 2024, a Tamale High Court ruled to annul the January 2024 parliamentary primary results for the Walewale constituency, which had initially declared Dr. Kabiru Tia Mahama the winner over incumbent MP Lariba Abudu by a narrow margin of just 7 votes.

Lariba Abudu contested the election results, citing significant irregularities such as improper handling of spoilt ballots, overvoting, and votes cast by deceased individuals.

In her legal challenge, Mr Abudu sought either the annulment of the election results or a recount and correction of the disputed ballots.

    Summary of the Judgment:

Judge Richard Mac Kogyapwah, sitting as a High Court Judge with additional responsibilities as a Justice of the Court of Appeal, presided over the case and delivered a ruling in favor of the plaintiff, the incumbent MP. The court granted three key reliefs which led to the annulment of the January 2024 parliamentary primary results for the Walewale constituency.

The court determined that the election was marred by serious irregularities and violations of electoral regulations, including the involvement of deceased voters, impersonation, and multiple voting. As a result, the court declared the election results legally invalid.

    Key Reliefs Granted:

    1. 1. Declaration of Improper Results Declaration: The court found that the results of the January 27, 2024, NPP parliamentary primaries were declared by an unauthorized individual, not the officially assigned Electoral Commission official, and before resolving issues related to 19 disputed spoilt ballots, thereby undermining the integrity of the results.
    2. 2. Acknowledgment of Election Irregularities: The court recognized that the primary was plagued by significant electoral violations, such as overvoting and the inclusion of votes from deceased delegates, which rendered the election null and void.
    3. 3. Order for Re-run: The court annulled the election results and ordered a re-run of the primaries to address these issues and ensure a fair election process.

    Abandoned Reliefs:

In the course of the proceedings, the plaintiff had initially pursued a number of alternative remedies but later withdrew the following requests:

    1. An order of the Court for the ballots to be brought to court and recounted and where the ballots have been tampered with or cannot be procured an order for the re-run of the polls.

    2. A declaration that when the 19 alleged spoiled ballots are scrutinized properly some of those ballots are valid votes in favour of the Plaintiff and when added to the valid votes cast in Plaintiff’s favour, Plaintiff will emerge as the winner of the polls.

The court is expected to deliver a full, reasoned judgment on September 12, 2024.

Re-run of NPP’s Walewale primary slated for Sept 8

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has set new dates for the re-run of its parliamentary primary in the Walewale constituency, following a recent High Court decision in Tamale.

The court, on September 2, 2024, annulled the original election result, which had been won by Dr. Mahama Tia Kabiru.

According to a statement from the Party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the nomination period will be from September 2 to September 5, 2024, with the re-run election scheduled for September 8.

Candidates are required to pay an application fee of GHC 3,000 and a filing fee of GHC 35,000. However, women, youth, and individuals with disabilities are eligible for a 50% discount on the filing fee.

Candidates who previously participated in the primary will be exempt from these fees.

To oversee the re-run, the Party has appointed an Election Committee chaired by Alhaji Haruna Mohammed.

He emphasized that these advancements are a key reason for their robust support of Bawumia, aiming to preserve and build upon these gains.

His post shared via social media read, “Last night in Offuman, Techiman North, it was truly uplifting to hear about how Dr. Bawumia’s initiatives are simplifying lives. From the renewal of NHIS and the ability to purchase ECG credit via mobile phones to the implementation of a national ID system, these efforts are making a tangible difference.

“Alongside the transformative Free Senior High School policy, which has brought relief to chiefs, religious leaders, and dedicated Ghanaians alike, these achievements are driving their strong support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to safeguard these gains.”

“I encouraged everyone to advocate for the NPP in market squares, offices, churches, mosques, and every place where people gather. With God, it is possible!”

  • Atta Akyea won’t apologize for calling Mahama a “drunkard” – NPP to NDC

Atta Akyea won’t apologize for calling Mahama a “drunkard” – NPP to NDC

The National Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has rallied behind Samuel Atta Akyea, the MP for Abuakwa South, after his contentious comments about former President John Dramani Mahama.

Mr Akyea had labeled Mahama a “drunkard,” sparking demands for an apology from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a statement released on August 30, 2024, the NPP Youth Wing, led by National Youth Organiser Salam Mustapha, made it clear that they will not issue an apology.

The statement condemned the NDC for what it sees as hypocrisy, pointing out that NDC officials such as General Secretary Fiifi Kwetey and National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah had previously made disparaging remarks about NPP members without facing similar backlash.

The NPP Youth Wing noted that the term “drunkard” was first used against Mahama by Dr. Kwabena Duffour, a notable NDC figure, during the party’s presidential primaries.

They argued that Duffour’s comments about Mahama’s alleged drinking problem have never been retracted, which they believe justifies Atta Akyea’s comments.

The Youth Wing affirmed its commitment to defending their presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, from NDC attacks and warned of a “fire for fire” response. They called for a more respectful and fair political dialogue.

  • Seth Terkper punches holes in Bawumia “Flat tax rate” scheme

Seth Terkper punches holes in Bawumia “Flat tax rate” scheme

Former Minister for Finance, Seth Terkper, has downplayed the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s proposed implementation of Flat tax rate scheme.

During the launch of the NPP’s manifesto in Takoradi, Bawumia pledged to introduce a flat-rate tax system in Ghana when he assumes presidency.

Bawumia outlined that this initiative would lower government spending by 3% of GDP, simplify tax management, and improve taxpayers’ understanding of their tax duties.

[We will] support businesses to drive and accelerate job creation by cutting 3% of GDP from government expenditure (~GH₵30 billion), and redirecting it towards private sector provision of public infrastructure and services. Using our tried and tested gold purchase programme to stabilise the currency, give businesses and industries predictability in planning, and ensure stability in input prices.

“Introduce a flat rate tax system in Ghana, like Estonia. This will simplify the tax administration by giving taxpayers visibility into their tax obligations and therefore easier to file and pay their taxes

“Complement the Flat Tax regime by using a Tax Amnesty Programme to enable industries to finance their expansion, recruit more employees, and energise economic activity.”

But taking to the X platform, Mr Terkper indicated that Bawumia’s efforts will disrupt the existing tax system and lead to a significant loss in government revenue

He added that the actual rate of the proposal could burden low-and middle-income earners.

According to him, Bawumia’s proposal will create a disincentive for investors, interfere with economic policies and negatively impact local industries.

“A] It’s been a while; we are back. This series reviews the proposal to replace the “Progressive” Personal Income Tax [PIT] regime with a “Flat” rate. It may destroy the fair tax system & result in significant loss of revenues. Follow us with the PowerPoint images that follow. It will increase the tax burden for low-and middle-income earners; reduces it for the wealthy and potentially leads to revenue shortfalls.

“The actual rate of the proposal is important since it could worsen the plight of low-income earners. Additionally, the flat tax could undermine targeted economic policies, harm local industries and discourage investment. While it is relatively simple, the flat tax fails to ensure equity or fairness. In the upcoming series, we will compare the (i) current progressive regime; (n) with the flat rate proposal,” he wrote.

Bawumia is a blessing, we can’t lose him – Ocquaye to Ghanaians

Former Speaker of Parliament, Prof Aaron Mike Oquaye, has urged Ghanaians to recognize and embrace the unique contributions of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will bring on board should he assumes presidency.

He emphasized that not supporting Dr. Bawumia would be akin to rejecting a blessing.

Reflecting on Dr. Bawumia’s impact in Ghana’s political history, particularly his pivotal role in the 2012 election petition, Oquaye Snr. highlighted how this case brought significant attention to the importance of pink sheets in the electoral process.

“When there were controversies about election matters and we had gathered a lot of information, Frank Davies and others had toiled. But how to put it together into an accepted formula for court, that work was done by Dr. Bawumia. Today, he has one more name called ‘Mr. Pink Sheet’.

“All matters regarding how we use pink sheets to address the controversies of elections, that was the man who stood in court. You and I were not there, but you could see the star in him. I say it is a gift. If you do not take advantage of such a gift, then you do not want the good things in life. You hate the blessings of God,” he said.

  • Angry Sam George ‘humbles’ Tourism Minister Egyapa

Angry Sam George ‘humbles’ Tourism Minister Egyapa

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram constituency, Samuel Nartey George, has faced off with the ruling government over what he alleges are misleading claims regarding the decrease of unemployment rate in the country.

In an appearance on GHOne TV, Sam George  who is also a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) described the ruling government as one who deliberately suppressed Ghanaians with false hopes with the aim of embezzling funds.

He specifically called out the Tourism Minister,  Egyapa Mercer and the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia demanding that they provide evidence to support their “lies”.

“The 2.3 million jobs is a lie, it’s a blatant disgraceful lie.  When Bawumia and Egyapa Mercer tell you they have created 2.3 million jobs tell them I Sam George says they are liars. If they have created 2.3 million jobs we must have a job surplus in Ghana. The Ghana Statistical Service says that the country has an unemployment rate of 14.7% and puts the number at 1.3 million Ghanaians. So if you have created 2.3 million jobs. If they have created  2.3 million jobs SSNIT has a total active participation of 1.8 million. So where are the jobs?,” he stated.

According to him, these assertions do not align with reports from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) and the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) which are used as government’s references.

“You referenced SSNIT as the source of your information meanwhile SSNIT has only 1.8 million active subscribers. If you are not lying then you are delusional. It’s either you are looking into the camera and lying to us. Young people of the country will not take these lies again. I am a young man, today thankfully I have a job but many young people like me and you don’t have a job. You promised them jobs, you haven’t given them the job and you claim you have created the jobs. How dishonest can you be? How dishonest can you be? Where are the jobs that you have created?,” he added.

He has asked the NPP to give up the efforts of breaking the eight cycle of governance as Ghanaians are ready to vote them out of power due to their unfulfilled promises.

His comment responds to the claim that no other administration in the Fourth Republic has created as many jobs as the NPP.

During the official launch of the NPP manifesto on Sunday, August 18, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia announced that President Akufo-Addo’s administration has created 2.3 million jobs to date.

  • Why Bawumia can’t scrap “nuisance” taxes now

Why Bawumia can’t scrap “nuisance” taxes now

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has explained why he plans to eliminate “nuisance taxes” only if elected president, rather than during his current vice presidential term.

In a recent media engagement, he clarified that attempting to remove these taxes while serving as vice president would be ineffective, as he lacks the authority to implement such changes.

He added that presenting and pursuing every idea now would deplete his agenda for his potential presidency.

“I must have a manifesto, otherwise if I do everything now if I could what would I do when I come into office. How can you do everything now. Even Mahama who was president, I am only vice president but he was president why he didn’t he do everything then. Why is he coming back? He had full authority, I don’t have full authority.

“The budget that has gone to parliament which has been passed is not my budget. The goes in the name of the president and not the vice president but when you think what new you need to do you go with new ideas and I have come with new ideas which I want to do when we come into office. Everyone who is running for office whether you’re Kamala Harris or Bawumia, you still have to think about what you want to do when you get into office and this is why I am presenting my new ideas,”he added.

Speaking at the NPP’s manifesto launch in Takoradi on Sunday, August 18, Bawumia detailed his administration’s vision for sweeping tax reforms designed to alleviate the financial burden on Ghanaians.

This plan includes offering a tax amnesty for overdue taxes and providing waivers on interest and penalties for unfiled returns.

Additionally, he outlined strategies to establish Ghana as a global leader in the digital space.

His approach involves implementing forward-thinking policies, offering competitive incentives, and making strategic investments to elevate the nation into a premier digital economy.

“We will fast-track Ghana’s transformation into Africa’s digital hub through strategic policies, incentives, and investments. This includes investing in local talent and tech start-ups while abolishing the E-Levy.

“We’ll implement broad tax reforms, offering a one-time tax amnesty to all Ghanaians and corporate entities, wiping the slate clean from previous tax obligations. This will give everyone a fresh start in their tax journey.

“We will reform the Value Added Tax system by consolidating all levies into a single line item, which will be treated as part of input and output VAT, eliminating the cascading effect of the current regime.

“We’ll also reduce Withholding Tax for small-scale gold exports to 1% to curb smuggling, and abolish the Betting Tax,” Dr. Bawumia promised.

“COPYFESTO” – NPP accuses NDC of copying dozens of their campaign promises

Communications Director for the Dr. Bawumia 2024 presidential campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has sharply criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following their manifesto launch in Winneba on August 24, 2024.

Aboagye took to Facebook the same day, branding the NDC’s manifesto as a “COPYFESTO,” alleging that the party had plagiarized several key ideas from the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) previous manifestos.

In his post, which quickly gained traction online, Aboagye accused former President John Mahama and the NDC of repackaging policies from the NPP and presenting them as their own.

He pointed out specific areas where he believed the NDC had lifted ideas, including health, housing, job creation, and the use of Starlink technology to enhance education.

The accusation has sparked a lively debate, with supporters and critics of both parties weighing in on the originality and authenticity of the NDC’s proposals.

Some have echoed Aboagye’s claims, while others have defended the NDC, insisting that their manifesto reflects genuine and innovative solutions for the country.

  • NDC saved my business from collapsing – NPP supporter

NDC saved my business from collapsing – NPP supporter

A staunch member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed admiration for the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Sekondi, Lawyer Blay Nyameke Armah.

In an interview with the media, the woman who is a resident of the Sekondi constituency, revealed that the NDC PC recently saved her business from collapsing.

She mentioned that Lawyer Armah has already extended two interest-free loans of GHS 1,500 and GHS 3,000, which she is expected to repay within five months.

She also noted that her uncle, who has been involved in politics for more than 12 years and is affiliated with the NPP, has never offered her similar assistance.

“I am a strong NPP supporter but I want to let you know I that Lawyer Armah Blay who is with the NDC has won my heart. He has loaned me 1,500 and 3,000 GHS without interest and I am to pay in 5 months time. Lawyer Armah Blay is not in politics yet but look at what he is doing. My uncle has been in politics for more than 12 years but he has done nothing for me,” she added.

The NDC PC, recently introduced an initiative called the “Women’s Banking Promise,” offering interest-free loans to around 400 women traders in and around the Sekondi market.

Each trader who applied received an interest-free loan ranging from GHS 3,000 to GHS 7,000, to be repaid within five months.

Speaking at the distribution of the second batch of these interest-free loans, Lawyer Armah emphasized the vital role women play in families, explaining that the support is aimed at providing them with a solid foundation for their businesses.

He also highlighted that this initiative reflects the NDC’s broader commitment to creating a Women’s Bank, a key policy of their flagbearer, John Mahama.

“If you need to build a project, then you need a good foundation. Realising that the economy of Sekondi is basically fish trading, we decided to ensure a good foundation, which is enabling the market women to have a very good capital base. So that when NDC comes to power, and we are able to renovate or redevelop the Sekondi Market, the people in Sekondi Market would already have a very stable capital to enhance our economic activities. This will also empower the women because women play pivotal roles in their homes,” he said.

Lawyer Armah further noted that the traders’ diligence in repaying the initial loans has been impressive, which motivates him to sustain the scheme.

“Regarding the repayment in the first batch of soft loans, it was very fantastic, and I couldn’t believe it. This is because we all thought that we were going to have to chase them to repay the loans. But, by the time the collectors get to them, they would have them deposited with the group leaders and so the collectors just pick the money up to the Bank. ‘

“In the first batch of loans we gave them which is still ongoing, each beneficiary received GH2,000 and when you finish repaying, and you’re coming for your second loan after assessment, we increase it to GH3,000 and subsequently GHS5,000 and GH7,000,” he noted.

He added that as traders repay their initial loans, they are eligible for higher loan amounts in subsequent rounds, with loans increasing from GHS 2,000 to GHS 3,000, and eventually up to GHS 7,000.

  • I am the brand new president you need – Bawumia to Ghanaians

I am the brand new president you need – Bawumia to Ghanaians

The flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has highlighted his commitment to delivering new and innovative solutions for Ghana.

He positioned himself as a “brand new, tear-rubber president,” distinct from his opponent.

Speaking at a community event in the Ofoase-Ayirebi constituency on Wednesday, Dr. Bawumia contrasted his vision with that of John Mahama, the NDC candidate, whom he labeled as a “second-hand, failed president.”

He argued that voting for him would mean embracing a fresh approach to governance with a strong focus on accountability.

“I am not yet a President so if you vote for me, you will get a brand-new tear rubber president but if you vote for John Dramani Mahama you get a second-hand failed president.

“Do you want a brand new or second-hand? If you want brand new then vote for Bawumia and Kojo Oppong Nkrumah,” he stated.

  • You will always be remembered as the failed president – Akufo-Addo to Mahama

You will always be remembered as the failed president – Akufo-Addo to Mahama

President Akufo-Addo has underscored that John Dramani Mahama’s previous presidency failed to merit a second term and therefore does not deserve another chance in the upcoming 2024 elections.

Akufo-Addo argued that Mahama’s presidency was marked by failure, making him unworthy of a return to office. He criticized Mahama’s efforts to rehabilitate his image, insisting that Ghanaians have not forgotten his poor record.

Pointing out historical precedents, Akufo-Addo highlighted that, besides the late President Atta Mills, Mahama is unique in being the only Ghanaian president to serve just one term due to underperformance.

“Because they believe that we have short memories, we don’t remember their record. We remember their record. The record of failure,” he said.

The President reassured that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will continue to remind the electorate of Mahama’s unsuccessful presidency.

He stated that Mahama’s bid to return to power is an attempt to obscure his past failures, but such efforts will not succeed.

“It is only one President whose record did not merit a second term, and you and I know who I am talking about. It’s the man who wants to come back to save his image because he believes Ghanaians have forgotten his records. Mr candidate, your record cannot be forgotten. We cannot allow that record to be forgotten,” he said.

Akufo-Addo promised that under the leadership of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Ghana will progress and achieve its potential.

Nortey passed away on August 18, 2024, at the Nyaho Clinic in Accra after a brief illness. Jefferson Sackey, the NPP’s candidate for the Ablekuma Central seat in 2024, announced the news via Facebook. • Four things NAPO said at NPP manifesto launch

Four things NAPO said at NPP manifesto launch

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) unveiled its manifesto for the December 7 general elections at a grand event in Takoradi, Western Region on On Sunday, August 18, 2024.

The launch, which took place at the Ghana Secondary Technical School, was attended by thousands of party members and supporters, including prominent figures such as President Akufo-Addo, Vice President and Flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and his running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, affectionately known as NAPO, addressed the gathering, making several key points during his speech.

    Bawumia’s Integrity Affirmed

Dr. Opoku Prempeh strongly endorsed Dr. Bawumia, emphasizing his untainted record on corruption. He pointed out that throughout Dr. Bawumia’s political career, he has never been implicated in any corrupt activities.

This clean track record, according to NAPO, is a significant strength that makes Dr. Bawumia a trustworthy leader for Ghana. He urged Ghanaians to remember this when making their decision in the upcoming 2024 elections.

    A Call to Action

NAPO rallied NPP members to work diligently towards securing victory in the December 7 elections. He stressed the importance of this victory in allowing the party to continue its ongoing developmental agenda.

“We have general election to win, and this general elections we will win. With God all things are possible. This is a call to duty. Today’s manifesto launch is the show of our contest of ideas and policies that are going to serve as guiding light for his excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia when by God’s grace he assumes office on January 7. He promises us that he needs no honey moon and from January 7, he is going to start working for the people of Ghana.

“The NPP which he leads has a record of delivery. In 2016 and 2020, the NPP delivered on its manifesto. I do recall Dr. Bawumia calling to account for what we were doing and what so far, we had done in education sector. That led some of us to think deep, Mr President your work has shown that you are a man who honours his word. Based on the work you have done; I am sure Ghanaians are going to give us the mandate to continue from where we are,” NAPO said.

He also reflected on the NPP’s achievements in previous elections, expressing confidence that the party’s record of delivery would earn them another mandate from Ghanaians.

    Praise for Akufo-Addo’s Educational Reforms

NAPO lauded President Akufo-Addo for his significant contributions to the education sector. He highlighted the introduction of Free SHS and free TVET, the provision of IT resources, and the overall enhancement of education infrastructure.

He also recounted the improvement in WASSCE results, crediting these successes to the president’s commitment to education despite initial skepticism from critics.

“2016 election was a contest of ideas. When you talk about Free SHS and free TVET, you didn’t stop there. From early childhood care and new nurseries, you developed, you made sure that in the area of IT, every school gets a school laboratory which is in progress.

“You made sure that every teacher gets a laptop for I.T, and it is in progress. You made sure that every child in secondary school gets a laptop and it is in progress. Mr President when you assumed office in 2017, 40,000 Ghanaian students had passed the WASSCE but could not get their results because they couldn’t pay their examination fees.

“Before you came to office, for every hundred Ghanaian student that qualified to go to SHS, 35 could not go because they couldn’t afford it. For the 65 that went to secondary school, by the time of WASSCE, another 30 had dropped out and that is why it was only 800 students in school when you came. Even not all that 800 would have qualified or to would be able to stay through three years. As we speak, every child that goes to secondary school leaves with the best result ever.

“Mr President, the profound thing you did in education is that when the naysayers said it was not possible, you made it possible, when the naysayers said you were diluting education, you were lowering standards, the first batch of free SHS students stayed home five months because of COVID, and when they came back to school, and they sat for the WASSCE, the best result Ghana has had, 68% had aggregate A1, 8 subjects, which was the whole of West Africa, they for the first time also passed all the four core subjects.”

    Acknowledgment of Energy Sector Achievements

Dr. Opoku Prempeh noted the progress made in the energy sector under President Akufo-Addo, recalling the persistent power cuts during John Mahama’s tenure.

He praised the government for maintaining stable electricity, even under challenging circumstances, and for reducing electricity costs. He commended the president for demonstrating both competence and exceptional leadership in this area.

    Commitment to Serve

NAPO expressed his unwavering dedication to serving Dr. Bawumia and working hard to ensure the NPP retains power.

“I am a strong believer in Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. I have worked more closely with him than many more would ever know. I believe in his ability and his knowledge. Surely, he is the man of the moment.

“I, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, am committed to serving him loyally to ensure his vision is translated into a mission and an action purpose for myself. I know his vision is for a brighter, better business-friendly country called Ghana, and I pledge to even work harder to realise this vision,” NAPO said.

If you lose the election, take a chilled drink – Okyenhene tells Bawumia, Mahama, others

Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin has delivered a message of calm and composure to presidential candidates Bawumia, Mahama, and others as Ghana prepares for the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

Despite the heightened political tensions and rhetoric leading up to the polls, the Okyenhene is confident that Ghana will uphold its tradition of civility throughout the electoral process.

Speaking at the Okyeman Nifa Royal durbar, part of his 25th Anniversary celebrations, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin reassured Ghanaians that the December 2024 election will mirror the country’s history of successful and peaceful elections since 1992.

He expressed confidence that the electoral process will remain orderly and respectful, much like previous elections under the Fourth Republic.

Addressing the youth and all voters, Osagyefuo emphasized the importance of exercising their voting rights responsibly.

“We have done it before. Since 1992 and Ghana remains stronger and together. On December 7, go to the polling center and vote for a candidate who can bring development to you, go home after voting, you may decide to come and witness the counting process in the evening or stay home and listen to the results from the media.

“At the end of the day, one will emerge as the winner. If you lose the election, take a chilled drink, the sun shall set and rise again,” Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin stressed.

The Okyenhene also emphasized that Ghana’s democratic progress is secure and will continue to thrive beyond the 2024 elections.

He called for forgiveness and love among Ghanaians, referencing lyrics from the song “Aseda” by musician King Paluta to underscore the importance of reconciliation and dialogue.

“The musician called King Paluta has lyrics on forgiveness. I think the song title is Aseda and it says: ‘forgive me if I have wronged you. I have also forgiven your sins.’

“We must learn to forgive each other. There is no issue that can’t be resolved by dialogue. In Akan the difficult sin to forgive and forget is when your brother has an affair with your wife and vice versa, even with that, we still deal with the issue.

“During my 25th-anniversary celebration, I have cancelled every grudge in Jesus name. Let’s love ourselves and help each other,” Osagyefuo said.

In his address, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin urged Ghanaians to exhibit patriotism and selflessness, particularly those in public service.

He praised government investments in education and called for continued focus on skills development and entrepreneurship to create job opportunities for the youth.

I can’t leave NPP because I love the party – Kennedy Agyapong

At a mini rally held at Effiakuma Police Park on Saturday, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central and a key figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, called on party members to set aside past grievances in preparation for the December 7 elections.

Agyapong stressed that forgiveness of past issues is crucial for achieving their goal of “breaking the 8.”

His comments came as the party anticipates its 2024 manifesto launch on Sunday.

“I understand the bitterness and frustration that many of you feel, but I can confidently say that I’m the most frustrated person among all. However, we’ve put our differences aside for the love of the party.

“So, I implore you to forgive your brothers and sisters, and let’s work together towards a victorious outcome in the upcoming elections.” Kennedy Agyapong appealed.

At the same event, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the party’s Vice Presidential candidate, attributed the country’s problems to the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh criticized the NDC, labeling them as a relic of the past and positioning the NPP as the party of the future. He highlighted the NPP’s role in rescuing Ghanaians from the issues left by the NDC.

“Don’t vote based on hardship alone. If the current challenges had occurred under NDC’s leadership, I assure you it would have been even more severe.

“During his presidency, without the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia-Ukraine war, he threatened to withhold salaries from teachers and nurses. So, I ask, what would he do in today’s circumstances?”

At the same event, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the party’s Vice Presidential candidate, attributed the country’s problems to the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.

  • Stop preaching to the converted, focus on door-to-door campaign – Charles Owusu to NPP

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO)of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC), Charles Owusu, has advised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to focus on engaging undecided voters, rather than preaching to those who are already aligned with their views.

Speaking on TV3, he stated that it is crucial for the party to shift from its current strategy of targeting only its supporters.

According to him, the party must target voters directly rather than primarily speaking to loyalists at large rallies.

He added that large crowds could be deceptive, recounting an incident where the National Democratic Congress (NDC) became reluctant due to the massive crowd it pulled during rallies.

“NPP says it’s going to launch its manifesto at Takoradi. There’s no need to preach to the converted. The one who has already accepted God does not need anyone to lead them again. Sometimes I see them speaking to their own supporters,” he stated.

He cautioned the NPP against relying on the energy and enthusiasm of large gatherings, but personal interactions and targeted outreach would be more effective in securing victory in the upcoming December polls.

“The crowd can deceive you, in 2016 I saw a lot of our NDC members gathered at the stadium yet the party lost over 1 million votes. Just as the EC said, elections are won at the polling stations. At this point a door to door campaign is crucial for the NPP if it wants to win December polls,” he added.

He stated that the former flagbearer of the party, John Agyekum Kuffuor, won the presidential elections in 2000 as a result of the door-to-door campaign he implored.

I survived, thank God – Ahiagbah

The Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has been discharged from the hospital following a serious accident on the Accra-Kumasi highway.

The collision occurred on July 27, 2024, around 1:30 am near Aduapompo as Ahiagbah was traveling to Kumasi for an event.

His vehicle crashed into an articulated truck.

In a social media update, Mr Ahiagbah shared his relief at being discharged and expressed heartfelt thanks for the support and prayers he received.

“I am out of the hospital today with a few more knots to untie, but I am back on my feet again. Thank God almighty, and thank you all for your prayers and support,” he wrote.

He acknowledged the exceptional care provided by the medical team at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), including Dr. Charles K. Dally, Dr. Otu Boateng, Dr. Roland Azorliade, and Professor Peter Ambe, along with the nursing staff.

Describing his time at KATH as both “frightening and painful,” Ahiagbah also highlighted the insights he gained into the state of Ghana’s healthcare system.

He announced the creation of the Turning Point Foundation, which aims to advance a people-focused and effective health policy in Ghana.

90% of our manifesto will target job creation, promoting business opportunities – NPP

Director of Communications for the Bawumia campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has revealed that the party’s manifesto will prioritize job creation and business development.

In an interview with Joy News, Mr Aboagye emphasized the party’s dedication to nurturing a robust economy led by the private sector.

He expressed confidence that, based on their track record of fulfilling similar promises, the party will continue to deliver on these commitments if elected in 2025.

“Approximately 90% of the manifesto will focus on jobs and businesses in the private sector,” he said, highlighting the NPP’s commitment to fostering a thriving economy driven by private enterprise.

“The manifesto is designed to ensure that the private sector not only thrives but also expands, increases production, and empowers citizens to access the opportunities generated,” he explained. “As businesses grow, they will naturally need to hire more people, leading to increased employment”, he stated.

He highlighted that the NPP is the only government in Ghana’s history to have created more jobs in eight years than any previous administration.

“We have created 2.1 million jobs and have the data to prove it. These are truly sustainable jobs. The data is there for all to see. As we head to the polls, voters must decide: do they want John Mahama or Dr Bawumia? The choice should be clear—vote for the one with a proven track record in job creation,” he explained.

He acknowledged that while the party has made notable progress in job creation, many young Ghanaians still face unemployment.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to unveil its manifesto for the 2024 elections in Takoradi, the Western Regional capital, on Sunday, August 18, 2024.

  • It’s either you sign the peace pact or you stop attending security meetings – NPP to NDC

It’s either you sign the peace pact or you stop attending security meetings – NPP to NDC

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has suggested that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) should not attend security meetings if they are unwilling to sign the peace pact.

Kodua pointed out that participating in these meetings is futile if the NDC is not committed to peace.

He expressed his frustration during an interview on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo morning show.

He highlighted that while the NDC engages in meetings organized by the Peace Council, IPAC, and the Electoral Commission, they refuse to sign the peace pact, questioning the purpose of their involvement in such discussions.

“In all the meetings that we attend, the most crucial aspect that will foster peace, you are refusing to sign. Then why do you attend those meetings? That is our concern as the New Patriotic Party,” Justin lamented.

This statement comes in response to the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, who declared that the party would not sign the peace pact for the upcoming general elections.

Kodua criticized the NDC’s refusal, recalling that in previous elections, the NDC signed peace pacts even when they disagreed with the outcomes, in the interest of national peace.

He assured Ghanaians that the NPP is committed to a peaceful election and called on the Security Council to implement stringent security measures before and during the December 7 polls. Additionally, he urged that strict actions be taken against anyone, regardless of their political affiliation, who seeks to disrupt Ghana’s democratic process and peace.

  • We’ve fulfilled 80% of our 2020 manifesto promises – NPP

We’ve fulfilled 80% of our 2020 manifesto promises – NPP

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, who serves as the Director of Communications and Spokesperson for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign, has announced that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has fulfilled 80% of its 2020 manifesto promises.

He noted that only 20% of the pledges remain unfulfilled.

Mr Aboagye emphasized that the NPP has carefully assessed their manifesto and found that they have successfully achieved the majority of their commitments.

Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on August 16, he said, “Our manifesto, we have done just about 80%. It is 20% that we have not been able to fulfil. We have run an analysis of our manifesto. You have it, run the analysis. Have you run an implementation of NPP’s manifesto? What percentage did you get? We have run a test of our manifesto to determine that there are 80% of the things that we said we would do, that we have been able to do.”

“There is a 20%, that is outstanding that we have not been able to entirely complete. Look at the macroeconomic indicators. When we came into office, one of our main objectives was to move our inflation to a single digit, which we succeeded in doing between 2017 and 2024 but today it’s around 20%.”

Mr. Aboagye further highlighted that the NPP’s upcoming manifesto will prioritize job creation and business development.

He expressed optimism, stating that the party, with a proven track record of delivering on such promises, is well-positioned to do so once more, especially for the country’s youth.

Mr Aboagye added that the NPP’s upcoming manifesto will place a strong emphasis on job creation and business development.

He expressed confidence that the party, having delivered on similar promises in the past, is poised to do so again, particularly for the nation’s youth.

  • NDC’s intention not to sign peace pact worrying – NPP

NDC’s intention not to sign peace pact worrying – NPP

The National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has expressed his frustration with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for opting not to sign a peace declaration ahead of the upcoming elections.

Boakye criticized this decision as reckless, arguing that the NDC’s rationale does not align with the goal of ensuring a fair and peaceful election process.

The criticism follows an announcement by NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, who stated that the party would not participate in any peace declaration initiatives.

During a segment on Joy News’ PM Express, Asiedu Nketia questioned the effectiveness of such agreements, noting that previous pacts had yielded minimal results.

“Signing a peace declaration doesn’t mean anything to the party, as previous pacts have not yielded any real results,” he said.

In response, Mr Boakye, speaking on Joy FM’s News Night on Thursday, August 15, said, “It is unfortunate that the NDC does not want to sign.

“Frankly speaking, I believe this reckless statement should be condemned by all, as it stokes unnecessary tension.”

Mr. Boakye also highlighted that similar peace initiatives have been attempted several times before, citing the 2008 election when the NPP, despite signing a peace accord, lost the election.

“In 2012, we were in opposition, signed the accord, and lost again. The same happened in 2016. Even then, during an important occasion organized by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, all presidential candidates, including Nana Addo Akufo-Addo, signed the peace pact. So, what has changed now to prompt such a reckless statement from the NDC’s National Chairman?” he questioned.

He further argued that if he were to enumerate all the violent incidents linked to the NDC, he wouldn’t finish within the time allocated for the program.

“Chereponi is a clear example. The fact that we have experienced pockets of violence does not justify the NDC’s refusal to sign the peace pact. This stance suggests they are laying the groundwork to reject the election results because they know they are going to lose,” he asserted.

Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, however, defended the NDC’s decision, arguing that preventing violence demands proactive measures rather than mere symbolic gestures.

“If you allow violence to brew, it will happen whether you sign a declaration or not. That’s why, more than a year ago, I started talking about the need to remove the building blocks for a violent election,” he explained.

Mr. Boakye remains confident that the upcoming election will be peaceful, fair, and credible, and that the NPP will emerge victorious.

“Look, if Hon. Bryan Acheampong is confident that the NPP party will win this election and some people want to spin his words, that’s their problem. And you expect Bryan Acheampong on a campaign platform to say we’re going to lose?” he quizzed.

He also supported Mr. Acheampong’s controversial remark, where Acheampong claimed that the NPP would employ any necessary measures to secure victory in the 2024 election.

  • Nkrumah chased Ghanaian chiefs out of the country – NAPO

Nkrumah chased Ghanaian chiefs out of the country – NAPO

The 2024 Running Mate to the flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has provided insight into the party’s origins and evolution.

He claims that during Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s regime, several Ghanaian chiefs were allegedly hunted and expelled from the country, with some even being arrested.

These events, according to Dr. Prempeh, led to the formation of various political groups, which eventually merged to establish the NPP.

Currently on a campaign tour in the Ashanti Region, NAPO shared these details in a radio interview on August 16, 2024.

The interview was initially shared by Edhub on X.

“All the people who couldn’t attend school due to financial constraints would have benefitted, developed and far advanced Ghana.

“We are here today to meet and greet the chiefs because they are the founders and originators of our party [NPP]. Let me say this, the United Party which brought forth the Progress Party, and others and later united to become the NPP were founded by our chiefs. All the people who came from the northern part, the likes of the Northern People’s Party were all chiefs.

“… Kwame Nkrumah went and arrested all the chiefs of Annor and sent them to prison and he changed the Volta regional capital from Hohoe to Ho. He then arrested all the chiefs from Hohoe and imprisoned them. Chiefs from Accra all came and formed their party and even Muslims from the Zongo communities also formed their party to unite with the United party.

“So, the party belonged to all Ghanaians before the formation of the Ashanti party. The leader of the Ashanti party was a chief and he elected his linguist, the Gas and Ewes were chiefs as well. I have visited Togbe Sri and the things the man said prove this is his party [NPP]. I have gone to Kete Krachi, Akwamufie, Kwahu, Akuapem, New Juabeng, Ga Mantse, Wassa Amenfi, Ahanta, Nzema, Essikado, Sekondi, Kumasi, Yendi, Denkyira and the party belongs to every Ghanaian because all the chiefs are singing the same tune.

“That’s why I’m saying our leader, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is also from a royal family. Because Kwame Nkrumah wanted to arrest the Mamprusi chief, Dr. Bawumia’s father left the Northern People’s Party to join the CPP to prevent the arrest of the Mamprusi chief and his transfer to Accra. Several chiefs had to run from the country because he threatened them,” NAPO posited.

  • Your efforts to rig 2024 elections will backfire – NDC to NPP

Your efforts to rig 2024 elections will backfire – NDC to NPP

The Minority Chief Whip, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has strongly warned against any attempts to rig the 2024 general election, stating that those who try will face severe consequences.

In a speech delivered in Adaklu in the Volta Region on August 15, alongside NDC flagbearer John Mahama, Mr Agbodza, who serves as the Member of Parliament for Adaklu, directed his remarks specifically at Bryan Acheampong, the Abetifi lawmaker.

He advised Acheampong not to stir trouble during the upcoming elections.

Mr Agbodza criticized the current commander-in-chief for losing control, which has allowed members of his government to threaten national peace and security.

He pointed to Acheampong’s recent comments about the sea burning if election rigging attempts are made.

He further asserted that President Mahama is set to win the election and that President Akufo-Addo will have to concede.

“You [John Mahama] have been the commander-in-chief of the Ghana Armed Forces before,  and you brought honour and respect to the office of the commander-in-chief.

“The current commander-in-chief appears to lose control to the extent that miscreants in his government are threatening the peace and security of this country. I am talking about my colleague in parliament Bryan Acheampong threatening that the sea will burn because they are going to try to rig the elections.

“I have a simple message for you my colleague just as you have been defeated in the hostile overtake of the hotels belonging to SSNIT  you will surely fail if you attempt to use force to do anything.

“This is Adaklu, you dare not try anything on the life of any Ghanaian, you cannot threaten Ghanaians, your party will lose and you be the first to run away. President Mahama will win and President Akufo-Addo will have to hand over to him and your party has no business trying to hold on to power. They are planning to do what they did in 2020 by orchestrating the murder of 8 Ghanaians during an election that has never happened before. if you are a security personnel or anyone being trained at least the boundary of the Volta region before you cross with that mindset, be prepared that it is self-defense, you might become the victim, this is a promise, it is not a threat.”

Mr Agbodza condemned the NPP’s alleged plans to repeat past violence and cautioned that those involved could face serious consequences if they attempt to cross into the Volta Region with such intentions.

Bryan Acheampong had earlier claimed at a campaign rally in the Nsawam-Adoagyiri constituency that the NPP “would do whatever it takes to win the elections” because it is “a political party that has pastors, imams, and traditionalists.”

“Burn the sea if you don’t understand, we’ll win and continue with our good works,” Mr. Acheampong noted.

He suggested that the NPP’s formidable electoral machinery would make it nearly impossible for the NDC to secure victory.

  • NPP’s manifesto will be full of lies – Mahama

NPP’s manifesto will be full of lies – Mahama

The NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of spreading false information.

He alleged that the NPP will unveil a misleading manifesto on Sunday, August 18.

“This is a government full of lies and premises, on the 18th of December they will launch the manifesto of lies, they will tell you ‘we are coming to do this for you’.

“But they say the first fool, is not a fool, the second fool is not a fool. Who is the third fool? The third fool is the real fool. They said one child, one egg, one child one chocolate, all are lies,” Mr Mahama said.

Mahama emphasized that Ghana needs a seasoned leader with prior experience in governance.

He advised against succumbing to the “try me” appeal of his NPP rival, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

He urged Ghanaians to reject any financial inducements from the NPP and to remember the hardships endured over the past eight years when casting their votes.

“Before the election, they will come with plenty of money, when they come, I beg you, take your thing back. But on the day when you go to the ballot box, remember the eight years of suffering, remember the eight years of hunger, remember the eight years of poverty and vote for the government and the president that will come and turn this nation around.

“In 2016, they said, oh try me and if in four years I don’t do well, you can vote me out. The same thing Jack Toronto’s younger brother is saying. He too says, try me, and after four years, if I don’t do well, you can vote me out but the youth of this country do not have the time to try anybody again.

“What we need is an experienced hand who has handled this country before and whose work we have seen. And so we are not going to try anybody. We are going back to experience, we are going back to expertise to turn our country around so that our youth can have a brighter future,” he said in his address at a community engagement in Juapong in the Volta Region on Tuesday August 13.

NAPO says goodbye to Manhyia South constituents ahead of 2024 elections

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, who has served as the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South for 16 years, has officially said goodbye to his constituents as he takes on his new role as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) running mate for the 2024 elections.

On July 9, in Kumasi, Dr. Prempeh, affectionately known as NAPO, was introduced as the NPP’s vice-presidential candidate. During a heartfelt farewell at the Apostolic Church Ghana in Ashtown, he thanked his constituents for their unwavering support throughout his tenure.

Dr. Prempeh reflected on the difficult beginnings of his parliamentary career and expressed gratitude for the continued encouragement and prayers from his supporters.

NPP’s new parliamentary candidate for the constituency, lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, pledged to build on the strong legacy established by Dr. Prempeh.

Meanwhile, Richard Agyei Mensah Ofori-Atta, the Constituency Chairman, called for unity among party members to ensure a strong showing for the NPP in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.

  • Akufo-Addo isn’t receiving full credit for his achievements – Gabby

A leading figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Otchere-Darko, has expressed frustration over the lack of recognition for president Akufo-Addo’s significant achievements.

Despite notable progress under President Akufo-Addo, particularly in education and health, Mr. Otchere-Darko feels that these contributions have not been given due credit.

In an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Face to Face on Channel One TV, Mr. Otchere-Darko pointed out that while overall conditions have improved, the quality of education has been preserved even with increased access.

“If more children are gaining access to education, and the results show that the quality of education has not fallen, what other problems matter? And there are more teachers than they had before. Teachers are not complaining that they have not been paid their salaries. I think that Akufo-Addo has not been given the credit that he deserves.”

He highlighted that many businesses were nearly failing during Mahama’s presidency because of frequent power outages, often referred to as “Dumsor.”

In comparison, he noted that Akufo-Addo’s administration has shown resilience, contrasting with Mahama’s government, which had to secure an International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout despite no global economic crisis at that time.

“In 2015, and 2016 we didn’t have any global crisis, yet we have queues at our filling stations. In 2015, and 2016, go and ask Ghanaian barbers, seamstresses, hairdressers, cold store operators, and hoteliers. Hotels were refusing to accept people because they could not afford to turn the lights on for their generators.

“People were working and using most of their salaries to pay electricity bills, to keep the generator on. All these things happened even though there was no global crisis.

“The global crisis that the world went through that Ghana suffered badly, and Ghanaians suffered, what if we didn’t have Akufo-Addo and we had somebody else? Compare what happened maybe 2014, and 2015 when we were forced to go to IMF for a bailout when we didn’t have a global crisis.

He recognized the difficulties Ghanaians have endured over the past three years, but observed that conditions are beginning to stabilize.

“People have struggled for the past three years, there’s absolutely no two ways about that. It’s called the cost of living crisis. And it’s not peculiar to Ghana, but because of our vulnerabilities, it has hurt us the most than many countries… Every Ghanaian can say that they can see some level of normalisation.”

  • Ghanaians will appreciate Akufo-Addo’s legacy after he is gone – Gabby

Ghanaians will appreciate Akufo-Addo’s legacy after he is gone – Gabby

A key member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, believes that President Akufo-Addo’s leadership will be fully appreciated by Ghanaians after his term ends in 2025.

In a recent Face to Face interview on Channel One TV, Otchere-Darko expressed confidence that, despite the ongoing economic difficulties and global challenges, the achievements of Akufo-Addo’s administration will be recognized in the future.

Otchere-Darko emphasized the notable progress in infrastructure, particularly within the health sector, achieved during Akufo-Addo’s seven years in office.

He argued that the advancements made in healthcare under Akufo-Addo’s leadership are unmatched by any previous government in the Fourth Republic.

“If you consider the challenges of leadership, the challenges of managing an economy such as ours and those challenges being compounded by the global challenges that faced them, I think when Ghanaians sit back, and analyse his period, after he’s gone, they will appreciate the Akufo-Addo’s presidency. When you are in there, you can’t really see that much.

“Take a few sectors, health, I can say boldly, based on numbers, that in the 4th Republic, no government has been able to do the kind of things we have witnessed under Akufo-Addo’s presidency. Within the health sector alone, in terms of facilities, in terms of that amazing thing that former President J.A Kufuor built, the National Health Insurance Scheme, where he has taken it.

Highlighting the accomplishments in healthcare, he praised the expansion of health facilities, the hiring of over 2,000 new health personnel, and the significant increases in doctors and nurses.

“In terms of personnel, over the last seven to eight years, over 2,000 people have been employed in the health sector. Look at the number of doctors employed over the last few years, I believe over 22,000, nurses about 165,000 or so.

Otchere-Darko also mentioned the ongoing Agenda 111 project, noting that almost 95% of the hospitals are approximately 65% complete.

“The expansion that we have seen in the health sector, in terms of access to health, personnel, remunerations, so many polyclinics have been built,” Gabby told host Umaru Sanda Amadu.

  • Let’s keep 2024 elections peaceful – NDC to NPP

Let’s keep 2024 elections peaceful – NDC to NPP

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Cape Coast South Constituency, George Kwaku Ricketts-Hagan, has urged Ghanaians to remain calm and approach the upcoming general elections with peace in mind.

He encouraged voters to head to their respective polling stations and cast their ballots without fear or panic.

Ricketts-Hagan emphasized that the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections should not be viewed as a “do-or-die” affair but as a democratic process to select new leaders.

“Ghana is a peaceful country. We have had elections multiple times, and we have done it peacefully. Many a time, we will go to an election, and some people will try to undermine the democracy that we are enjoying. I just pray and hope that we will have peaceful elections,” Kwaku Ricketts-Hagan observed.

In an exclusive interview with MyNewsGh.com’s Hajia Asana Gordon, Ricketts-Hagan urged NDC members to work diligently, noting that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has failed to deliver for the people of Ghana.

“We need to work very hard to increase our votes and win the elections convincingly because Ghanaians are eager for NDC to win the 2024 elections”.

“I am assuring you that the Cape Coast South Constituency of the NDC will never, not shortly, lose the parliamentary elections”.

“My next four years is to tap into John Dramani Mahama’s policies, including the 24-hour economy,” he stressed, while promising to set up or create Kotokruaba market microfinance loans to give soft loans to women to expand or improve their businesses since most of the women are breadwinners,” he stated.

  • NDC adopting ideas we’ve already proposed – NPP

NDC adopting ideas we’ve already proposed – NPP

The National Youth Organizer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for allegedly adopting NPP policies as their own.

His comments were in response to the NDC’s recent promise to cover tuition fees for all first-year tertiary students if they are elected into office.

Mustapha argues that this idea was initially put forward by the NPP, and the NDC is now attempting to present it as their own initiative.

“They are taking from some of our policies and adding them to theirs. Bawumia said something in the past, and now they are also saying the same thing. I don’t have a problem if it’s going to help Ghana, which is what we are looking for,” he said.

During a Tuesday interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, Mustapha expressed skepticism about the NDC’s ability to follow through on their promise.

He mentioned that the Ghana Student Loan Trust already exists to address such financial needs, implying that the NDC’s proposal is neither groundbreaking nor innovative.

He further criticized the NDC’s plan, suggesting that it might be more about winning votes than genuine concern for students.

“But if you didn’t initiate something yourself, it is very difficult to implement it, and that is the problem with the NDC. If they are giving a loan to students to pay their fees, then everyone can go for a loan to pay their fees.

“There is the Ghana Student Loan Trust, so it is not a new thing. This seems like a vote-buying gimmick because they don’t have any genuine intention. There is no integrity in the things that they say,” he added.

  • I’ll allocate GHS10m yearly to GSA – Bawumia

I’ll allocate GHS10m yearly to GSA – Bawumia

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has pledged to allocate at least GH₵10 million annually to the Geological Survey Authority.

This initiative is part of the NPP’s strategy to enhance the benefits Ghana derives from its mineral resources.

Dr. Bawumia criticized the current “trial and error” approach used by companies with prospecting licenses, which he believes leads to environmental damage.

He emphasized that a more structured approach is necessary for effective mineral exploration.

“We intend to resource the geological survey department with at least GH₵10 million every year to locate the minerals. This will prevent the trial-and-error process of exploring minerals which destroy the environment”.

He further explained that with precise mineral location data from the Geological Survey, exploration companies can be better directed.

His administration aims to introduce a community mining scheme supported by a common user facility.

Dr. Bawumia also stressed the importance of involving traditional chiefs in the mineral licensing process to ensure sustainable and equitable mining practices. He proposed that chiefs should have a stake in future small-scale mining operations.

“We will initiate the community mining scheme and provide them with a common user facility for them to mine.” Dr Bawumia said while campaigning in the Akwatia constituency.”

  • Avoid close ties with Akufo-Addo if you want to be president – Bawumia told

Avoid close ties with Akufo-Addo if you want to be president – Bawumia told

The Provost of KNUST’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. Charles Marfo, has advised the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to distance his campaign from Akufo-Addo if he wants to be president.

This advice follows intense public criticism of President Akufo-Addo’s recent Founders’ Day speech, which was criticized for undermining Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s contributions as a key founder of Ghana.

The President’s controversial decision to reframe August 4 as a holiday and modify the term “Founder’s” is viewed by many as an attempt to revise Ghanaian history to favor his family’s role in the country’s independence.

“Even some vibrant people in the party have seen this, so for me am not so surprised the core team of the Bawumia campaign may hardly come along with him.

“It’s intentional, but if it’s not intentional, am telling the Dr. Bawumia campaign it should be intentional,” he cautioned.

Prof. Marfo argues that to avoid being tainted by this controversy, Dr. Bawumia should strategically dissociate his campaign from the President.

“If you see how the NDC is struggling with their campaign, Bawumia has a clear chance of winning,” he observed.

“If he wants to win, he should not be standing on a platform with personalities who will come and use words that will only irritate people.”

He believes that such a move could be crucial in enhancing Bawumia’s chances of winning the presidency.

  • Suhum MP to run as independent candidate – Report

Suhum MP to run as independent candidate – Report

The current Member of Parliament for Suhum, Kwadjo Asante, is reportedly weighing the option of running as an independent candidate in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

This consideration comes after his loss to Frank Asiedu Bekoe, popularly known as Protozoa, in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primary, as reported by Asaase Radio.

In a recent segment on the Asaase Breakfast Show, Kofi Tonto, an aide to NPP presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, addressed the potential challenges posed by Asante’s possible independent run.

“We do have a small challenge in Suhum because the current MP, who lost the primary to Protozoa, wants to contest as an independent,” Tonto stated.

He noted that Suhum, a key NPP stronghold, could face complications if Asante proceeds with his independent bid.

Despite this potential obstacle, Tonto assured that efforts are being made to mend relations and reintegrate Asante into the NPP. Bryan Acheampong, the MP for Abetifi, is leading these reconciliation efforts.

“Discussions are ongoing to bring him back to the fold. Honourable Bryan Acheampong is leading that charge to work with him to bring him back. I think we’ve made great gains in terms of engagement with him, and we hope that he will come on board to solidify our base as we move forward,” Tonto added.

In the recent primary, Frank Asiedu Bekoe won with 496 votes, while Kwadjo Asante secured 320 votes in his attempt for re-election.
