‘I don’t touch someone’s wife’ – Archbishop Adonten Boateng denies affair with Obaapa Christy

Archbishop Kofi Adonten Boateng, who has been accused of having an affair with gospel musician Obaapa Christy, has once again spoken out on the matter.

This is the second time the US-based pastor has addressed the allegations, which he says have deeply affected him.

The controversy began when Pastor Love, Obaapa Christy’s former husband, accused her of infidelity during their marriage, claiming she had been involved with several men of God, including Archbishop Boateng.

In response to these accusations, the Archbishop has firmly denied any romantic involvement, expressing disappointment at how some have used the situation to tarnish his reputation.

Currently in Ghana, Archbishop Boateng reiterated in a recent interview with Kingdom FM’s Fiifi Pratt that his relationship with Obaapa Christy was strictly platonic.

He explained that her music was a source of comfort to him during a difficult time in his life, and there was never any romantic connection between them.

“There was a difficult time in my life, and it was Obaapa Christy’s songs that I cried with. In this life, there are two things no man should touch: someone else’s belongings and someone else’s wife. It doesn’t end well,” he stated.

He affirmed his commitment to his own marriage, saying, “I’ve got a wife; I cannot go after someone else’s. I am young and handsome, so I definitely I’ll have someone.”

Discussing how he met Obaapa Christy, he explained, “I met a music producer and asked for gospel musicians to grace an event of mine. He invited Obaapa Christy and others. When she came, I treated her with respect and care, just as I do for everyone. I love people and humanity.”

Despite the allegations from Pastor Love, Archbishop Boateng expressed his respect for him.

“When it comes to longevity in ministry, I can boldly say that I am Pastor Love’s child, so I’ll treat this issue with the utmost respect. Every marriage has its ups and downs. My heart goes out to Pastor Love; wherever he is, I pray he finds peace and a way through this,” he concluded.

Pastor Love’s apology to the Men of God he accused

A few weeks after his public outbursts, Pastor Love issued two separate apologies: one to Archbishop Adonten Boateng and another to Osofo Kyiri Abosom, both of whom he had accused of being involved with his ex-wife.

Pastor Love explained that his remarks were made in a moment of anger, acknowledging that, like any human, he is capable of making mistakes.

  • Obaapa Christy’s ex-husband, Pastor Love sentenced to 4 years in prison over illegal sale of car

Obaapa Christy’s ex-husband, Pastor Love sentenced to 4 years in prison over illegal sale of car

Pastor Hammond Love, widely known as Pastor Love, has been sentenced to 48 months in prison by an Accra Circuit Court for automobile theft.

The case against Pastor Love dates back to 2017, when he was charged with selling a vehicle without the owner’s permission.

The prosecution presented evidence from the complainant, Samuel Amankwah, who imported a Toyota Highlander into the country in 2016 and entrusted Pastor Love with the task of clearing it.

After the vehicle was cleared, Amankwah instructed Pastor Love to sell it for $50,000 and to deduct the clearance fees from that amount.

However, Amankwah later decided to cancel this arrangement as he intended to travel to Ghana in April 2017, at which point he would settle the clearance costs with Pastor Love.

Upon his return to Ghana, Pastor Love was unable to present the car despite numerous requests from the complainant.

When arrested for his failure to produce the vehicle, Pastor Love claimed he had taken out a loan of GHC 40,000 with a 20% interest rate to cover the car’s clearance.

He argued that the accumulating interest led him to sell the car without Amankwah’s permission for GHC 80,000, using GHC 70,000 to repay the loan company.

However, Pastor Love was unable to direct the police to the loan company or identify the individual who purchased the vehicle.

During the court proceedings today presided over by His Honour Isaac Addo, Pastor Love appealed for leniency, citing his status as a first-time offender and his willingness to pay a fine. His request was, however, denied.

The judge remarked that, as a pastor, Pastor Love should exemplify integrity and uphold trustworthiness.

He acknowledged the complainant’s rightful ownership of the car and emphasised that Pastor Love’s sale of the vehicle without consent warranted a strong deterrent sentence.

Pastor Love promises to sever ties with ex-wife Obaapa Christy

Pastor Love has issued another public apology following recent comments about his former wife, Obaapa Christy, which drew criticism.

He acknowledged that his emotional outbursts were driven by deep personal pain, particularly feelings of being unappreciated after putting immense effort into supporting her career.

He reflected, “It’s painful when those you’ve sacrificed for fail to recognize your contributions. Even if gratitude isn’t expressed, it’s still wrong to speak ill of those who have helped you. My actions were a response to what I felt was unfair treatment from my ex-wife.”

Pastor Love recounted how he worked tirelessly to promote Obaapa Christy’s music, traveling extensively at a time when the absence of social media made promotion far more difficult.

He explained, “I did everything for her, even while she stayed home. From songwriting support to traveling across the country to push her music, I endured a lot to ensure her success.”

In his heartfelt apology, Pastor Love asked for forgiveness from Ghanaians both at home and abroad. He emphasized his intention to permanently distance himself from Obaapa Christy, saying, “This will never happen again. I ask for everyone’s understanding. If Christy denies my contributions, I leave it in God’s hands. I hold no bitterness and wish her nothing but blessings. This chapter is now closed.”

He also shared words of wisdom for couples, encouraging mutual respect and kindness in relationships.

He extended his apology specifically to the pastors he had previously accused of being involved with her, as well as to Ghanaians at large.

Acknowledging that his remarks were made in anger, Pastor Love emphasized his humanity and the potential for mistakes.

During an interview on PeaceFM, he expressed deep regret, saying, “My comments about Obaapa Christy were fueled by anger.

I’m only human, and I seek forgiveness from Ghanaians and the pastors I mentioned, including Kyiri Abosom and Adonteng Boateng, who resides in the United States. I was under pressure and said things I shouldn’t have. I hope they can forgive me.”

Previously, Pastor Love had accused several pastors of having a secret affair with Obaapa Christy.

His accusations, which were laced with vulgar language and severe insults, shocked many, drawing widespread criticism for their extremity.

These remarks were initially sparked by a dispute over his involvement in writing Obaapa Christy’s hit songs.

You’ll die instantly if you sing songs I wrote for you – Obaapa Christy’s ex-husband fumes

Pastor Love has strongly rebutted recent claims made by his ex-wife, Obaapa Christy, who denied his involvement in writing her hit songs.

In a recent interview with Kingdom FM, Obaapa Christy dismissed the notion that Pastor Love contributed to her music, arguing that both of them lack formal education and thus, it’s implausible that he could have been her songwriter.

“Just like myself, Pastor Love is not academically sound, so it’s a lie that he was my songwriter,” she earlier stated.

Pastor Love, who has been following the controversy closely, responded with intense criticism.

In a viral video, he launched a vehement attack on Obaapa Christy, hurling accusations and insults.

He challenged her musical credibility, saying, “Have you ever written a song before? I’ll keep insulting you for a whole month; if I’m not tired, I’ll continue. Village woman, unserious woman. You’re a curse. All these people who call themselves gospel musicians. Do you even live out the messages in your songs?” he fumed.

You’re nothing but a village woman and a fraud. Do you even practice what you preach in your songs?”

Pastor Love further accused her of exploiting him for publicity and issued a harsh warning: “Anytime you sing any of the songs I’ve written for you, you’ll die an instant death.”

Obaapa Christy also addressed the nature of her current relationship with Pastor Love, acknowledging that despite not having seen him recently, they maintain a respectful and cordial connection due to their shared responsibilities as parents.

She emphasized that their past and the presence of their children ensure they will continue to be a part of each other’s lives.

“I’ve not seen him for a while, but you can ask him, Everywhere I see him, I greet him. There is no bad blood between us. I have children with him and so we will be in each other’s life. There is a lot that happens in life. People have died because of marriage so…” she said.

“God bless you” is not enough; we need money – Obaapa Christy

Gospel artist Obaapa Christy firmly supports the notion that gospel musicians should be compensated for their performances, highlighting the financial challenges they face similar to secular artists.

Christy emphasizes the substantial costs involved in production, including studio fees and expenses for backup singers, asserting that relying solely on goodwill phrases like “God Bless You” is unsustainable for sustaining their craft and covering daily operational expenses.

Addressing the ongoing debate, Obaapa Christy asserts, “We pay bills and other expenses, so yes, we need to get paid for our services, be it at a church or wherever. Studio fees, backup singers, among others, do not come free. We pay for them, so how can we continue to fulfil our obligations if we offer our services for free?”

The Akan-translated title means ‘it will change,’ and the song is crafted to inspire listeners not to lose hope in challenging situations.

She conveyed her disappointment regarding the prevalent negative comments that arise when gospel musicians encounter challenges, deeming them discouraging and counterproductive.

Obaapa Christy encouraged both the media and the public to emphasize the positive aspects of gospel music rather than dwelling on the misfortunes of artists.

Speaking in a virtual interview with Amansan Krakye, Obaapa Christy said music, particularly her style, is all composed of various life experiences.

“I do sometimes sing some of my gospel songs from personal experience that I get but God gives me all the songs through so many ways,” she said on Property FM in Cape Coast.

“When I’m happy, I’m able to get a song from that, when I’m sad, also I get a song from it, whilst having a conversation with someone, I can get a song. According to her, as a gospel singer, the Bible is also a big inspiration when it comes to writing songs.

“From day one, when I began singing and granting interviews, I was asked if I charged before performing at shows.” And I said yes. I charge. They ask, as a Christian, why do you charge?’

“Makeup is expensive, and a costume to appear good is equally expensive because I can’t wear it anywhere after today and I also have to eat. This is our work. Even the Bible says he who works for the Lord eats from their gains,” she stated.’

  • Black Sherif, Sarkodie, Kidi, D’Black, others battle it out for DJs Song of the Year

The DJs song of the year, a category of the Ghana DJ Awards which recognizes songs that were played most by DJs during a year under review, is a fiercely contested bracket.

While the category is an opportunity for the Ghana DJ Awards to honour musicians who produce some of the most played songs by DJs, it is also an opportunity for artists to recognize the importance of DJs in promoting their songs.

Making his first entry into the category is Black Sherif with his popular jam “Kweku the Traveler“. During the year under review, Kweku the Traveler has enjoyed massive airplay on radio, TV, and events across the country and beyond.

In addition, the song broke into the Nigerian market as it became the first Ghanaian song to rank number 1 on the top 100 Music Chart on Apple Music. It is, therefore, not surprising that Killer Blacko made the cut for the DJs song of the year.

Accordingly, after winning last year’s edition with his original hit song “Touch It”, Kidi is back in the sticks. Interestingly, a remixed version of “Touch It”, which features American rapper Tyga, is up for the DJ’s song of the year. So will he do a back-to-back? We await.

Also on the list is Camidoh’s popular jam “Sugar Cane Remix”, which features Nigerian acts Darko and Mayorkun alongside Ghanaian singer King Promise. Camidoh, with this tune, topped Nigerian’s top 100 songs on the Apple Music chart, becoming the second Ghanaian to reach that milestone after Black Sherif.

Receiving enormous airplay by DJs across the country, Sarkodie’s Non-Living Thing, which features Nigerian singer Oxlade got a nod in the category.

Who else is taking on the above? No other than Kuami Eugene with his “Take Over” song which went viral after DJs started giving it a massive spinning on the radio and at pubs across the country. The nomination puts the Lynx signee in close contention with his label mate Kidi for the coveted award.

Fa No Fom hitmaker DJ Azonto is equally on the list for the top prize. The song’s title has grown to become a popular saying among music lovers. Due to the songs catchy lyrics, it has been on rotation across major pubs and clubs as well as event grounds across the country.

D’black is up for the big prize with his song “Sheege”, which features fast-rising Ghanaian female singer Gyakie. The tune has enjoyed popularity among partygoers and attendees as DJs drop it as part of their playlists. It is undoubtedly going to be a tough one.

Finally on the list is Afrobeat sensation Kelvyn Boy’s song “Down Flat”. According to Kelvyn Boy, the song, written in less than 20 minutes, has gone viral worldwide. While the song made giant strides by making great entries on Billboard’s Afrobeat top charts, it made it into almost every DJ’s playlist.

The 10th edition of the Ghana DJ Awards, christened Africa’s Biggest DJ Event, is scheduled to come off on November 5, 2022, at the Silver Star Tower in Accra. Some acts billed to perform include Stonebwoy, Obaapa Christy, Kuami Eugene, Increbible Zigi, Keche, amongst others.

According to him, the last time he saw his son was when the boy was about two years old adding that the singer has not allowed him to see his kid since then.

Speaking to Afia Tamakloe on the M’ahyease TV show, Pastor Love said that because he wants to have a relationship with his child, he has sought to use other means to get her to change her mind especially since she has custody of all their three children.

He stated that over the years he chose to be patient and urges close associates to speak to Obaapa Christy but she is yet to heed their advice.

Pastor Love said that he did not want to pursue a custody battle or use other means to see his children because he does not want to make a big problem out of the issue.

He said that consistently he had to pull a brake on taking the case further.

But the Action Grace Chapel Head Pastor noted that if Obaapa Christy continues to create a barrier between him and his child, he will be forced to seek other means which may unearth more problems.

The couple was married for 4 years before finally separating with quite an unpleasant divorce in court.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time Pastor Love has expressed his pleasure at the rate at which he sees his children.

In 2019, shortly after Obaapa Christy’s remarriage, Pastor Love demanded to have custody of their children after claiming they were being maltreated.

  • It was Obaapa Christy’s fault – Pastor Love revisits divorce

Popular preacher and former husband of gospel singer, Obaapa Christy has explained that the divorce was no fault of his; instead, his ex-wife’s.

According to Pastor Love, ministers of the gospel who divorce their partners are always blamed for failing to save their marriages. He explained that when the marital issue goes overboard, it becomes hard to resolve it.

“I am a man of God and I want people to understand that marriage is not speed, it is deep… no one plans to divorce but when you’re not able to solve the faults, it will happen. In my case, the fault wasn’t from me but the woman. I just had to accept it in good faith and move on,” he disclosed in an interview with Afia Tamakloe on Mahyease TV Show.

Pastor Love Kweku Hammond has admonished married couples to learn how to forgive each other if they wish to avert suffering a similar case.

“I have a message for married couples. This time you can find me on TikTok as Pastor Love and I am always having programmes on marriage. You can’t get married or stay in a marriage if you don’t learn to forgive. You must learn to try and sacrifice to forgive your partner when they wrong you. This will help you to progress,” he charged.

He continued: “In my case, it gave me experience, the reason I am also educating others. We must try to forgive to stay in a marriage. I think that is better.”

Men were also admonished to stay away from multiple partners which according to Pastor Love hinders progress in their lives.

“This is my advice to you, womanizing will drain your pocket and also ruin your body. You can’t progress in life. Learn to live by the truth,” the preacher said.

Although the preacher’s ex-wife has moved on by remarrying, Pastor Love noted that he is taking his time to choose the right woman to prevent Ghanaians from calling him out should his next relationship crash.

“Marriage is a long journey, also it is not easy. If you’re not careful, people will blame you for going in and out of marriage. I have been separated from my wife for 11 years but I was in court for 7 years. The marriage hadn’t been annulled so I couldn’t marry. I had to sit, pray and reflect so in your next relationship, you’ll handle the person like an egg,” he added in the interview monitored by GhanaWeb.
