Tottenham blasts offensive chants at Old Trafford

Tottenham Hotspur are collaborating with local law enforcement and stadium security to track down fans involved in “disgraceful” anti-gay chants during their 3-0 victory against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

In a statement, Spurs condemned the behavior, stating, “This is entirely intolerable, deeply offensive, and not an appropriate way to support the team.”

“The Club will be working closely with the Police and stewards to identify anyone instigating or joining in with the chanting — we shall take the strongest possible action in accordance with our Sanctions and Banning Policy.”

Tottenham has encouraged fans at Premier League matches to confidentially report any incidents they witness to the club.

“We shall be continuing our work with our LGBTQ+ supporters’ association, Proud Lilywhites, to ensure a welcoming and inclusive environment for all fans on matchdays,” the club said.

“We all have a responsibility to act as ambassadors of Tottenham Hotspur, and discrimination of any kind has no place at our club.”

Man Utd hire architects to present Old Trafford recommendations by year’s end

Manchester United has engaged the internationally acclaimed architectural firm Foster + Partners to create a comprehensive masterplan for the area surrounding Old Trafford as part of an ambitious redevelopment initiative.

The Premier League club is exploring two potential paths: either refurbishing the existing stadium, which is the largest club venue in the UK, or constructing a new stadium on adjacent land owned by the club.

Jim Ratcliffe, co-owner of United, leans towards the idea of building a new facility, and discussions within the Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force have reportedly focused on the concept of a new stadium with a capacity of 100,000 rather than renovating the current one.

Foster + Partners, based in London, has also been entrusted with overseeing a £50 million upgrade of United’s Carrington Training Complex.

Norman Foster, a prominent figure in architecture, is known for designing some of the world’s most recognisable structures, such as the HSBC Building in Hong Kong, London’s “Gherkin,” and the revamped Reichstag in Berlin.

Foster, founder and executive chairman of Foster + Partners, said: “As a proud Mancunian, I am passionate about the chance to rebuild on Manchester’s great industrial heritage, creating a vibrant new mixed-use community, served by highly sustainable and improved transport links, providing homes and jobs for the local community, all catalysed by a world-class stadium for the world’s most famous football team – Manchester United.”

United’s chief operating officer, Collette Roche, said: “Lord Foster has unrivalled experience in delivering projects of this scale and ambition.”

The anticipated cost for a new stadium is estimated to be around £2 billion, and the task force is set to provide its final recommendations by the year’s end.

Supporters are being encouraged to share their opinions on the redevelopment plans.

Gary Neville, the former United captain who is a member of the task force, has called on fans to actively participate in the consultation process.

Jonny Evans extends contract with Man Utd

Jonny Evans has secured a new one-year contract with Manchester United. The club announced that Evans, who emerged as an unexpectedly vital player last season, will remain at Old Trafford for another year.

The 36-year-old Northern Ireland international returned to United last summer as a temporary solution but went on to play 30 games across all competitions.

Despite the team’s injury troubles, Evans demonstrated exemplary professionalism throughout his first season back at the club, which he had originally left in 2015. His contributions helped United secure the FA Cup, completing his collection of every domestic trophy available with the club.

Evans told the club’s official website: “I am delighted to have extended my contract at Manchester United for another season.

“To play for this great club and feel the support from our incredible fans is always a privilege.
“Returning to the club last season was an honour, representing the team on the pitch alongside fantastic team-mates under an excellent manager.

“Winning the FA Cup together was an unforgettable experience; I know we can challenge for more trophies in the season ahead.”
United play their first pre-season friendly on July 15 against Norwegian club Rosenborg. They will also play Rangers, Arsenal, Real Betis and Liverpool before the Community Shield against Manchester City on August 10.

  • Man Utd sees backroom overhaul as two key medical staff depart Old Trafford

Man Utd sees backroom overhaul as two key medical staff depart Old Trafford

Manchester United are undergoing significant changes in their medical and coaching staff as part of a comprehensive restructuring led by INEOS.

According to reports from The Daily Mail, the club is set to part ways with two longstanding first-team physios, Richard Merron and John Davin.

Merron, who has been with Manchester United for 23 years and served as a first-team physio since 2017, and Davin, a fixture in the medical staff since June 1997, will be departing as part of efforts to overhaul the medical department.

The restructuring is being spearheaded by Gary O’Driscoll, who joined Arsenal last September as head of sports medicine. O’Driscoll has been instrumental in reshaping the medical team, including bringing in Jordan Reece from Arsenal to replace Robin Sadler as head of physio.

Additionally, Ibrahim Keren has moved from the women’s team to a significant role with the first team, while Neil Hough has left his position in the academy.

O’Driscoll’s tenure has prioritised addressing the fitness challenges that Manchester United faced last season, during which the team grappled with nearly 70 separate cases of injury or illness.

The departure of Merron and Davin is seen as part of a broader strategy to bolster the club’s sports medicine capabilities, rather than an indictment of their individual performances.

On the coaching front, new assistants Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake, along with goalkeeper coach Jelle ten Rouwelaar, have joined Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff.

This marks the beginning of a new era as the team prepares for the upcoming season. Meanwhile, Mitchell van der Gaag and goalkeeper coach Richard Hartis are among those leaving, while Steve McClaren is expected to assume a new role within the coaching setup.

As the restructuring continues, INEOS aims to establish a sustainable framework for success, blending tradition with modernization to propel Manchester United to new heights in both domestic and European football.

Further announcements regarding personnel changes and operational adjustments are anticipated throughout the 2024-25 campaign.

CNN’s Madowo teases Man Utd’s Old Trafford with “nicer stadium in Africa” remarks after leaks

CNN reporter Larry Madowo criticized Man Utd for the condition of Old Trafford Stadium.

Madowo, a passionate Arsenal fan, attended the Premier League match between Manchester United and Arsenal on May 12, 2024.

During the game, which Arsenal won 1-0 thanks to Leandro Trossard’s goal, heavy rain exposed significant leaks in the stadium’s roof.

Madowo captured a video of the incident, sparking widespread condemnation among football fans who deemed it unworthy of Manchester United’s stature.

The Kenyan broadcaster captioned the video, “If I hadn’t filmed the Old Trafford waterfall myself, I wouldn’t have believed it. I’ve seen nicer stadiums in Africa.”

Manchester United have been condemned for their poor maintenance of Old Trafford, with Arsenal legend, Martin Keown, describing the leakage as worse than the Manchester United defence.

Arsenal’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over Manchester United has kept the Premier League title race alive until the final day of the season.

While Manchester City remains in pole position to clinch the title with wins in their last two matches, Mikel Arteta’s side has kept the pressure on them throughout the campaign.

The match saw Rasmus Hojlund squander a golden opportunity to put United ahead, but Arsenal capitalised on their chances.

Kai Havertz seized on a defensive lapse from Casemiro to set up Leandro Trossard for the decisive goal.

Although Arsenal looked comfortable in the first half, they faced increased pressure from United after the break. However, substitute Gabriel Martinelli threatened on the counter-attack, and Arsenal’s defence held firm despite United’s late onslaught.

The result means that Arsenal must secure a win against Everton on the final day and hope for a slip-up from Manchester City against either Tottenham or West Ham to have a chance at claiming the title.

Man Utd officials admit Old Trafford failed to handle the heavy rainfall during Arsenal clash

Man Utd officials have acknowledged that Old Trafford faced challenges in handling what has been described as unprecedented rainfall following the team’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.

Sources informed ESPN that this incident reinforces the importance of new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s desire to upgrade the stadium.

According to United, 41mm of rain fell within two hours after the final whistle. Videos circulated on social media showing a significant waterfall caused by a leak in the roof between the East Stand and the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand.

Additionally, images depicted water flowing underneath seats, running down the windows of executive boxes, and forming large puddles on the pitch.

Despite these issues, all supporters who attended the match were able to exit the stadium safely. However, there is a recognition that these challenges underscore the necessity for United to invest in stadium improvements.

Ratcliffe attended the game on Sunday to witness the issues firsthand. The 71-year-old British billionaire, who acquired a 27.7% stake in the club in February, has expressed a preference for constructing a new stadium near Old Trafford.

However, discussions have also explored the possibility of redeveloping the current facility.

In March, United announced the formation of a taskforce to lead the project.

The group is headed by Lord Sebastian Coe, former chair of the organising committee for the 2012 London Olympics, and includes Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, Sara Todd, Chief Executive of Trafford Council, and former United captain Gary Neville.

Prior to the Arsenal match, Ratcliffe held discussions with Burnham, Coe, and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer.

  • Man Utd flop Wilfried Zaha “not bothered” about bad stint at Old Trafford

Galatasaray’s Wilfried Zaha made a ‘build or die’ admission when reflecting on his failed Manchester United stint ahead of his return to Old Trafford.

Zaha spent two years at United, where he appeared in just five matches in all competitions and was twice sent out on loan to Crystal Palace and Cardiff City.

In 2015, the winger went back to Crystal Palace on a permanent transfer and spent another eight seasons at the club before leaving them as a free agent to join Galatasaray this summer.

Ahead of facing the Red Devils in the Champions League, Zaha claimed that he is not ‘bothered’ about how his Old Trafford career panned out because it helped him to become stronger mentally.”

Speaking to reporters, the former Crystal Palace star said, “I’ll be honest, when you look at my face, do you think I am bothered at all? No. I went through a phase in my career where you either build from it or die. It built my character. I was determined not to let my career die out.”

The 30-year-old has made six appearances since signing with the Turkish powerhouses in the summer and has one goal and one assist. In the Champions League on Tuesday versus United, he is most likely to get the start.

  • Fernandes hoped for a proper Old Trafford farewell for De Gea

Fernandes hoped for a proper Old Trafford farewell for De Gea

Bruno Fernandes has expressed admiration for his Manchester United teammate David De Gea, stating that the goalkeeper deserved a more fitting farewell.

De Gea recently announced his departure from the club after his contract expired at the end of June.

Fernandes believes that a farewell in front of the fans at Old Trafford would have been a more suitable tribute for De Gea, considering his contributions to the team.

As the club’s third-highest appearance-maker in the Premier League, De Gea’s departure is seen as a significant loss for Manchester United.

Fernandes’ comments highlight the respect and appreciation the players have for De Gea and acknowledge the impact he has had during his time at the club.

The Portuguese international posted on Instagram: “You know what I think about you and how much I will miss you bro.

“You deserved to say goodbye at the stadium with all the fans cheering you for all the beautiful memories.

“You made history at the club and your name will never be forgotten. All the best for what’s coming for you and your family.”

De Gea leaves the club on a high, having won the Premier League Golden Glove last season.

United are reportedly keen to replace him with Inter Milan stopper Andre Onana.

  • David De Gea’s exit from Man United creates panic

David De Gea’s exit from Man United creates panic

concerns are mounting at Manchester United regarding the potential

Sources who spoke to ESPN suggest that, Manchester United is becoming worried that David De Gea may have played his final match for the team.

Managers at United had hoped to extend the goalkeeper’s contract, but negotiations have dragged on, raising concerns that he may now leave this summer.

According to sources who spoke to ESPN, the club decided against enacting De Gea’s one-year contract extension, which would have kept him with them until 2024. In May, the option became void.

Instead, negotiations have taken place about a longer deal on a lower basic wage but including significant performance-related bonuses.

Sources have told ESPN that talks with De Gea are ongoing but that United are not as optimistic about reaching a compromise as they were a month ago.

De Gea, 32, has spent 12 seasons at Old Trafford and made more than 500 appearances.

Sources have told ESPN that earlier this season he was exploring the possibility of returning to Spain while there has also been tentative interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia.

United, meanwhile, are set to make a second bid for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount.

A first offer of another £40 million ($51m) was immediately rejected by Chelsea, who want closer to £70m. United won’t stretch that far but, according to sources, are hoping to agree a fee of around £50m.

Mount will enter the last year of his contract at Stamford Bridge this summer and there is little hope he will agree fresh terms.

The market for the Mount, which at one stage included Liverpool, Arsenal and Bayern Munich, has cooled significantly over the second half of the season and United are seen as the clear frontrunners for his signature.

United are hopeful that Chelsea’s need to sell a number of players this summer will help negotiations move quickly to allow the possibility that Mount could be part of the squad ahead of the preseason tour of the United States, which starts in New York on July 20.

He signed for Manchester United in 2011 and won the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League during nine years at Old Trafford.

Young moved to Inter in 2020 and became the third Englishman to win Italy’s top prize after Jimmy Greaves and Gerry Hitchens in 1963.

The 39-times England international, who can play as a left-back or left wing, made 32 appearances last season and 250 for Villa across his two spells with the club.

Ferguson names his world-class players, tags CR7 as “ornament on the top of a Christmas tree”

Renowned manager, Sir Alex Ferguson who led Manchester United to numerous victories and 13 Premier League titles during his tenure from 1986 to 2013, has made comments that seem to indirectly criticize some of his former players when discussing the use of the term “world-class” in football.

Throughout his illustrious career at Old Trafford, Ferguson experienced many remarkable moments, including achieving three consecutive titles twice and securing the treble in the 1998/99 season.

He notably fostered a successful team dynamic with the famed “class of 1992,” where academy talents played a dominant role in his squad.

According to Daily Express, since retirement, he has remained a regular figure around the club, attending games and getting involved in key decisions, including managerial appointments.

    Ferguson shades former players

The use of labels and classification for players has become a thing in football. Legend and world-class are the two most controversial terms used currently in football.

The 81-year-old has waded into the discussion using his Manchester United players as examples in what appears to be a subtle dig at some great stars.

“If you read the papers or listen to the television commentators, we seem to be awash with ‘world-class’ footballers,” he wrote in his book, Learning from Life and My Years at Manchester United, via SportBible.

“I don’t mean to demean or criticise any of the great or very good footballers who played for me during my 26-year career at United, but there were only four who were world-class: [Eric] Cantona, [Ryan] Giggs, [Cristiano] Ronaldo and [Paul] Scholes.

Ryan Giggs, Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Scholes.

He had special praise for the greatest of them all, Cristiano Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, including one under Ferguson’s watch.

“And of the four Cristiano was like an ornament on the top of a Christmas tree,” he said.

Take a look at the potential Man United, Sevilla lineups

On Thursday, April 20, the second leg of Manchester United’s Europa League quarterfinal matchup against Sevilla is scheduled.

During the exciting game, a place in the semifinals will be on the line, and both teams are eager to advance.

When both clubs agreed to a 2-2 draw in the rematch played at Old Trafford last week, The Evening Standard believes that there will be something to play for in Andalusia.

United looked on course to put one foot in the semis after they raced into a 2-0 lead in that clash, only for major defensive blunders involving Harry Maguire and Tyrell Malacia to throw the tie wide open.

The biggest World Cup snubs: A list of footballers left out of their countries’ World Cup squad
    Man United team news

United will take their trip to Spain on the back of a sudden injury crisis which has hit the team in recent days.

Erik ten Hag is in danger of missing the service of a number of key players, with defence the worst hit departed.

The duo of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez is expected to miss the tie, with the latter ruled out for the rest of the season.

Marcel Sabitzer, who shone in the first leg, is the other star player expected to miss the Andalusia trip alongside youngster Alejandro Garnacho.

Tom Heaton, Donny van de Beek and Phil Jones are all long-term absentees and will play no role.

Be that as it may, Ten Hag has been boosted with the imminent return of Marcus Rashford, who was recently spotted in training.

Christian Eriksen is the other player back from injury and is in contention for a starting spot.

    Predicted Man United XI

Given how crucial the tie is, Ten Hag is expected to field a strong XI for the away clash.

The Dutchman is likely to settle for a 4-2-3-1 formation, with David de Gea expected to keep his place between the sticks.

Harry Maguire is in line to partner Victor Lindelof at the heart of defence in the absence of both Varane and Martinez, with Luke Shaw returning on the left.

The biggest headache would be on the right, with Ten Hag likely to overlook Aaron WanBissaka in favour of Diogo Dalot, who was impressive against Nottingham Forest last weekend.

In midfield, Casemiro is expected to partner Eriksen in a defensive role, with Bruno Fernandes playing as a No.10.

Antony and Rashford are likely to lead the attack on either flank, with the returning Anthony Martial playing as the sole striker.

  • ‘We don’t force things’ with Martial on the squad list – Ten Hag

‘We don’t force things’ with Martial on the squad list – Ten Hag

Manager Erik ten Hag, of Manchester United said his team performs best with Anthony Martial on the roster.

Martial has struggled with injuries during his time at Old Trafford since arriving from Monaco in 2015. The attacker was loaned to Sevilla for the second half of last season, making just one goal in 12 outings.

A strong pre-season meant this campaign started with optimism, though he has again been in and out of the line-up because of his fitness with Marcus Rashford’s goals proving crucial in his absence.

With Rashford ruled out for several games with a muscle injury and January loan signing Wout Weghorst struggling in front of goal, Ten Hag needs Martial to start firing if United are to add more silverware to the EFL Cup they lifted in February, which ended a six-year trophy drought.

Ten Hag is confident the 27-year-old will be a big help over the rest of the season, though he will not rush the forward back to the team before he is ready despite him scoring off the bench in the 2-0 victory over Everton at the weekend.

“We don’t have to force things,” Ten Hag told reporters. “We are careful. The front line against Everton worked really well.

“When he [Martial] is in the team, we play our best football and we have our best results as a team. The time he needs for a goal is less. I defend him because I point to the stats and see how he contributes.”

  • Manchester United beat Everton 2-0 to keep their top-four hopes alive

Manchester United beat Everton 2-0 to keep their top-four hopes alive

Marcus Rashford’s injury poses a threat to the brilliance of Manchester United’s triumph over Everton, which was sealed by Anthony Martial’s first Premier League goal of 2023.

Poor finishing, dubious decision-making, and a run of Jordan Pickford stops kept Sean Dyche’s visitors from taking a beating at Old Trafford in the first half.

In a lopsided first period, United had a whopping 21 shots, but Scott McTominay was the only one who managed to score, and that came after Ellis Simms of Everton squandered a wonderful opportunity at the opposite end.

The Toffees improved after the break but Erik ten Hag’s men remained in control, with substitute Martial completing a 2-0 win as Rashford capitalised on a Seamus Coleman error.

The France international’s first Premier League goal since December came on his third substitute appearance after spending two months of this injury-hit campaign out with a hip complaint.

Martial’s return may have come at just the right time given the concerning sight of Rashford pulling up holding his groin late on, before limping heavily around the pitch and down the tunnel.

Everton were a pale imitation of the side that fought for a 1-1 draw against Tottenham on Monday and were on the backfoot from the outset on Saturday lunchtime.

Marcel Sabitzer saw an early shot deflected wide before Rashford was put through on goal, only to shoot straight at Pickford under pressure from James Tarkowski.

Rashford was then frustrated by an excellent recovery tackle by Alex Iwobi, with the resulting corner so nearly bringing about a 12th-minute opener.

Antony sent a curling, bobbling effort off the post and Aaron Wan-Bissaka snatched at the rebound, inexplicably dragging across the face of the empty goal.

  • Police discussed Utd’s Greenwood’s attitude at training grounds before his arrest in 2022

Police discussed Utd’s Greenwood’s attitude at training grounds before his arrest in 2022

Before his arrest in 2022, Mason Greenwood reportedly had his behaviour discussed by Manchester United and the local police forces.

The 21-year-old was arrested at the end of January of last year after being accused of attempted rape, assault resulting in actual bodily harm, and using coercive or controlling behaviour towards the same woman.

He hasn’t played for the Red Devils since January 19, 2022, when he was suspended by United while an investigation was conducted.

It was revealed in February 2023 that the Crown Prosecution Service has discontinued proceedings against Greenwood due to the withdrawal of key witnesses and new evidence coming to light, with the CPS announcing that there was “no longer a realistic prospect of conviction”.

A source who worked with Greenwood at Old Trafford has told The Athletic that the Premier League club “were protective of him in different ways. He was an asset but they also wanted to help him reach his full potential. He made immature choices, but lots of young players do that, then they grow up a bit.”

United have rejected approaches from Turkish clubs for Greenwood since seeing criminal proceedings against him dropped, but he remains out of contention for selection at present and concerns regarding his behaviour remain.

It is alleged that regular absences from the Red Devils’ Carrington base have been unexplainable in the past, while he was dropped from the England squad in September 2020 after being caught – alongside Manchester City star Phil Foden – inviting girls into the Three Lions’ team hotel.

That was a serious breach of Covid-19 restrictions, but it was not the first time that Greenwood had flouted those rules.

The Athletic reports that he would head out driving around south west Manchester during lockdown, while also holding parties at a rented Airbnb address in Salford despite a ban on social gatherings.

No formal action was taken by police, but it is claimed that they did visit United’s training centre to request that the club keep the player on a tighter leash.

Another source said: “Most athletes don’t know they’re going to make it, but he falls into the category where at 10 years old he knew it was a certainty. These are fewer and farther between than people think. Frank Lampard, John Terry, David Beckham had to work their socks off.

“Mason had a Rooney-esque, Gazza-esque quality. In 999 out of 1,000 cases footballers are made, but he fits the born category. It is unexplainable why he can do some of the things he does. He can just score goals from impossible situations.”

Greenwood is now an expectant father, but it remains to be seen whether he will ever grace a football field in England again.

He is clinging to that hope, with a source adding: “He would run through a brick wall to be back playing for United now.”

  • See how Man Utd could like next season with Osimhen, Mitoma, and Bellingham

See how Man Utd could like next season with Osimhen, Mitoma, and Bellingham

If some of Manchester United’s transfer targets are signed this summer, the team may undergo significant changes.

Under the direction of Erik ten Hag, United has had arguably a successful season. In February, the Dutchman gave the team its first trophy in nearly seven years.

The Europa League is one of two more trophies that the Red Devils are still in the running for.

Victory in the Premier League game between Manchester United and Liverpool FC at Old Trafford is celebrated by Erik ten Hag.

Be that as it may, Ten Hag is understood to be keen on strengthening his squad further this summer to help him challenge for more trophies next season.

According to Metro UK, United are looking to sign a prolific striker and have Napoli’s Victor Osimhen top on their shortlist.

The Old Trafford dwellers are also expected to add a central midfielder within their ranks to partner Casemiro.

United had initially touted Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong for the role, but The Sun claims Borussia Dortmund ace Jude Bellingham is now a top priority.

Ten Hag is also likely to move for a right winger following Antony’s struggles since his arrival from Ajax.

    Man United possible starting XI

Should Man United seal the three transfers, we are likely to see a much changed United team from next season.

David de Gea is expected to continue guarding the net next season, with the long-serving United shot stopper in line to renew his contract at Old Trafford.

Having already been frozen out of the starting XI, Harry Maguire may have to settle for a place on the bench should he continue at the club, with Ten Hag possibly continuing with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez at the heart of his defence.

Diogo Dalot has been touted as the long term right-back at the Theatre of Dreams, leaving Wan-Bissaka staring at a bleak future with the club.

That said, Dalot is likely to be partnered with Luke Shaw on either flank of the backline, with Tyrell Malacia acting as Shaw’s backup in left-back.

In the event United snaps up Bellingham from Dortmund, the Englishman is likely to team up with Casemiro in midfield, with Bruno Fernandes keeping his place as the club’s No.10.

Mitoma would obviously slot in for Antony on the right wing, with Marcus Rashford continuing on the left.

Such a scenario would then see Osimhen drafted into the attack to lead Man United’s goal hunt.

    Napoli name Osimhen price tag

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Napoli have reportedly set the asking price for the club’s top marksman, Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen has courted interest from a number of top clubs across Europe after an impressive season with the Italian club.

Manchester United are among the clubs believed to be keen on the services of the Nigerian international.

While Napoli are said not to be willing to part company with Osimhen, fresh reports indicate the Italian giants would only listen to offers in the region of €150 million.

The Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo’s criticism of the team’s failure to upgrade its facilities has been vindicated by a viral video of Old Trafford restrooms that are overflowed.

Twelve years after his return to the Reds, Ronaldo criticised the club in an explosive interview with Piers Morgan in 2022, saying that “nothing has changed” and that the facilities still needed to be updated.

Prior to Man United’s game against Southampton on Sunday, March 12, 2023, the handle @ste conlon posted a video to Twitter that showed the bathroom area being flooded while the fans detestably walked through to relieve themselves.

“Just arrived at Old Trafford and not for the first time the toilets are overflooded with an inch of urine all over the floor. Disgusting to see. This is what the Glazers don’t want you to see. It’s that bad and has happened so many times I had to video it,” he captioned the video.

The tweet which has gained over 3 million views has seen wild reactions from united fans applauding Ronaldo for calling out the club.

Ronaldo in his interview said: “Nothing changed since I left.”

“The pool, the jacuzzi, even the gym, even some technology. Even the chefs who I appreciate, lovely people. I thought I would see new technology, infrastructure. I saw things I saw when I was 20!”.

The interview which saw Ronaldo criticise the club in plain words fuelled his exit from the club two seasons after his return.

Former player, Jesse Lingard echoed Ronaldo’s concerns during an interview in the Diary of a CEO podcast.
“They’re so behind on everything,” he told the Diary of a CEO podcast.

“You see [Manchester] City’s facilities, Tottenham’s facilities. People are miles ahead. Even the social [media] side of things.

  • Ten Hag unperturbed as Garnacho leaves Old Trafford

Ten Hag unperturbed as Garnacho leaves Old Trafford

Alejandro Garnacho needed crutches as he left Old Trafford on Sunday, but Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag wasn’t overly concerned about the injury.

Garnacho was introduced in the second half of United’s 0-0 draw with Southampton and went down hurt during the latter stages under a challenge from Kyle Walker-Peters.

In the penalty area, the Southampton defender won possession of the ball on the stretch, but Garnacho’s right ankle looked to become wedged between Walker-Peters’ knees.

Garnacho appeared to be in excruciating pain but continued to play until he was substituted in stoppage time as Ten Hag attempted to strengthen United’s 10-man defense.

He was subsequently spotted leaving the stadium with the support of crutches.

“He was a little bit limping after the bad tackle,” Ten Hag told reporters.

“In the end they brought on another striker, a big and tall one [Paul Onuachu] and I don’t want to go for risk, we were already downsized to 10 [men].

“I didn’t want to go with players who were [just] 90 per cent [fit]. That’s why I called him off, but I think it is not too bad.”

United are next in action on Thursday as they go to Seville to face Real Betis in the second leg of their Europa League last-16 tie.

They take a 4-1 aggregate lead to the Benito Villamarin after a comprehensive win at Old Trafford in the first leg.

FA Cup quarterfinal draw: Vincent Kompany sets up crunch matchup with former team, Man City

All eight teams that qualified for the last eight of the FA Cup quarterfinal draw have now learned who their opponents will be. Grimsby is the lowest-ranked team currently vying for a semi-final spot, while both ends of the Manchester United spectrum are among the top teams still competing.

According to Metro UK, United defeated West Ham United 3-1 in the fifth round on Wednesday night at Old Trafford, securing a spot in the quarterfinals. Burnley stunned Fleetwood 1-0, while City advanced after defeating Bristol City 3-0 on Tuesday.

In other matches, Sheffield United eliminated Southampton while Grimsby Town eliminated Tottenham Hotspur by a score of 1-0.

FA Cup quarter-final draw Fulham’s qualification for the quarters has now earned them a trip to Old Trafford to face quadruple-chasing Man United. Elsewhere, Vincent Kompany will return to his former club as his Burnley side take on Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

League Two side Grimsby Town have earned themselves a tie with Brighton, while Sheffield United are scheduled to face Blackburn Rovers in the next round.

Man United fans in love with Rashford

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Manchester United fans could not help but admire Marcus Rashford’s reaction to his side conceding the first goal against West Ham in the FA Cup on Wednesday, March 1.

David Moyes’ side took the lead through Said Benrahma in the 54th minute, but they were pegged back as Nayef Aguerd scored an own goal after being put under pressure from Wout Weghorst.

An interesting photo has emerged online showing Rashford asking Anthony Elanga for his shirt as he prepared to come on for his side, who were trailing at the time.

  • An atmosphere for wins – Fernandes on win against Barcelona

An atmosphere for wins – Fernandes on win against Barcelona

Bruno Fernandes put Manchester United’s 2-1 comeback win over Barcelona down to a “bouncing” Old Trafford on Thursday.

Due to the Portuguese midfielder’s tug on Alejandro Balde, the hosts fell behind in the first half. Robert Lewandowski converted the penalty for Barcelona.

But after the break, United turned things around to win 4-3 on the whole and advance to the round of 16, thanks to goals from Fred and Antony.

A boisterous Old Trafford supported Erik ten Hag’s team the entire time, and Fernandes was quick to acknowledge the support afterward.

“The belief in the team is always there,” he told BT Sport. “The belief from the fans, for us, is amazing. They [have] pushed us through difficult moments this season.

“They’ve been with us in the toughest moments. This season, we have been good, really good. This is something different, between them and us.

“We have something special, because they can see we are doing all we can to win games for them. Old Trafford was bouncing, and that’s why we got the result.”

For United, there is limited time to dwell on such a momentous result — their first win over Barcelona since April 2008 — as they turn focus towards Sunday’s EFL Cup final against Newcastle United.

With a chance to end the club’s six-year silverware drought this weekend, fellow midfielder Fred acknowledges they must refocus quickly to stay on track.

“[It was a] good game today,” he added. “[But] we need to keep going. We have a final on Sunday. We need to change our mind [ahead] of the final.”

Xavi expresses confidence in Barcelona ahead of match against Man Utd

Prior to their Europa League trip to Manchester United, Barcelona doesn’t need any extra motivation, according to Xavi, who thinks the chance to win at Old Trafford suffices.

After a thrilling 2-2 draw at Camp Nou last week, the two will face off in their knockout round play-off matchup’s second leg.

Xavi, who played for Barcelona and helped them defeat United in the Champions League final in both the 20

After a thrilling 2-2 draw at Camp Nou last week, the two will face off in the second leg of their knockout round play-off match.

The Barcelona team defeated United in the Champions League final in both the 20 and 21

In making the trip to England and Old Trafford specifically, Xavi believes it will be more than enough to inspire his players, regardless of the first-leg result.

“I have very good memories of the games I played in England, simply because it is so special to play there,” he told the Times. “It is the cradle of football.”

“The stadiums, the fans who do not stop cheering, everything has a very special flavour that is not seen anywhere else in the world.”

“So imagine, it is such a pleasure for me to go back to Old Trafford, one of the best stadiums and [one of the] biggest teams in the world.

“We are a brave team that likes to attack and always win. [This game] will not be an exception. It’s like a big Champions League game.

“For the fans, it’s a massively interesting match. For the players, [it is] one of those matches that everyone wants to play at least once in their life.”

Barcelona were forced to come from behind to salvage a draw against United, who are a force revived under Erik ten Hag.

United have turned their home ground into a fortress, with no defeats on their own turf since early September.

Xavi is not cowed by their form however, adding: “Fear? Fear of what? On the contrary, Old Trafford motivates [you].

“It is one of those stadiums where you want to play at least once in your life, where you have to get the best out of yourself.”

  • Ronaldo: Sir Alex told me to rejoin Manchester United

Cristiano Ronaldo revealed Alex Ferguson convinced him to re-join Manchester United, but the legendary former manager knows there has been “zero progress” since his departure from Old Trafford.

Ronaldo has been the subject of a great deal of scrutiny this season, having pushed for a move away from United prior to the campaign while subsequently falling out of favour with new manager Erik ten Hag.

Although heavily linked with a move to rivals Manchester City, the Portugal skipper returned to Old Trafford in August 2021 on the advice of his former boss, who he revealed is in agreement the club has stalled since the Scotsman’s retirement in 2013.

in a wide-ranging interview with Piers Morgan Uncensored, Ronaldo also questioned the Red Devils’ decision to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with Ralf Rangnick last season, while admitting a new direction is essential.

“I followed my heart,” he said. “[Sir Alex] said to me, ‘It’s impossible for you to come to Manchester City,’ and I said, ‘Okay, Boss.’

“Since Sir Alex left, I saw no evolution in the club. The progress was zero. After sacking Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer], they bring in sport director Ralf Rangnick, which is something nobody understands. This guy is not even a coach.

“A big club like Manchester United bringing in a sporting director surprised not only me, but all the world.”

He continued: “I think the fans should know the truth. I want the best for the club. This is why I come to Manchester United.

“But you have some things inside that don’t help [us] reach the top level as City, Liverpool and even now Arsenal. A club with this dimension should be top of the tree in my opinion, and they are not, unfortunately.

“As Picasso said, you have to destroy it to rebuild it, and if they start with me, for me, it’s not a problem.

“I love Manchester United, I love the fans, they’re always on my side. But if they want to do it different, they have to change many, many things.

“He [Sir Alex] knows. Everyone knows. The people who don’t see that, it’s because they don’t want to see; they are blind.”

  • Eriksen tells Man Utd stars to keep on running

After beating Liverpool at Old Trafford, Christian Eriksen thinks Manchester United proved they have what it takes to compete against the best in the Premier League.

The 2-1 victory on Monday at Old Trafford will mean little if United loses to Southampton on Saturday, but following losses to Brentford and Brighton and Hove Albion, the Red Devils produced a strong showing to demolish their formidable opponents and boost morale.

Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford’s goals gave United three points, Erik ten Hag’s first league victory as United manager, but Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo were benched.

United had only 29.6 per cent of possession and their passing accuracy was a fairly dismal 65.93 per cent.

That was the worst accuracy United have had in any Premier League game since posting 65.73 per cent in a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield in December 2018.

Yet they were still the better side for large parts of the game, with their energy and enthusiasm so markedly different from the game prior, the 4-0 thumping at Brentford.

Assessing the difference between the Brentford and Liverpool games, Eriksen hit on the big change against the Reds, saying: “I think our intensity compared to the Brentford game [was the biggest difference].

“Obviously, we made a few mistakes against them that gave them the advantage and [against Liverpool] we started on the front foot and were the better team in the first half.”

Captain Maguire would have been frustrated to be relegated to the bench, but the England defender reacted on Tuesday morning by posting a picture on Instagram of Rashford and Bruno Fernandes celebrating, adding the caption: “Things you love to see.”

United’s running caught the eye, as they covered 113 kilometres as a group, with Liverpool clocking up just under 110km.

Rashford ended a run of 997 minutes without a goal in all competitions for United and almost added another, thrashing a fierce shot just over the crossbar.

Eriksen said that for United it was a case of getting “back to basics”.

“We have some very quick players and how we played today, and how Liverpool play, suited us as well,” the Denmark midfielder said. “It’s great to play with players who want to play football and run.”

Eriksen believes the jolt of the Brighton and Brentford defeats has set United up for the rest of the season, but time will tell on that score. Two wretched performances followed by a big improvement for one game leaves them with some convincing still to do.

Former Tottenham and Inter playmaker Eriksen senses growing unity, however. Quoted on United’s official website, he said: “I think it started after losing two games.

“This has been about coming together and getting back to the basics. We needed to show that we were better doing the basics and I think we did that.”

  • Ronaldo leaves Old Trafford before full-time in game against Rayo Vallecano

Cristiano Ronaldo stayed true to his words and played in the game against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.

However, the 37-year-old did not play full-time. He played the first half of the game and was then substituted for Amad Diallo.

The striker was then seen leaving Old Trafford before the final whistle, and per reports it is  whether or not his departure was sanctioned by head coach Ten Hag.

Ronaldo made Erik ten Hag’s lineup despite not featuring in any of the Red Devils’ previous five pre-season fixtures.

Ronaldo to play in friendly against Rayo Vallecano

What has Ten Hag said about Ronaldo?

Ten Hag initially confirmed that Ronaldo would be in his squad for the Rayo friendly clash after United’s 1-0 loss to Atletico Madrid in Spain on Saturday.

The Dutchman admitted that the veteran forward is still a long way behind the rest of his senior team-mates in terms of fitness, however, having only just seen him return from an extended break.

“We’ll see how long he can play,” Ten Hag told Viaplay. “I cannot tell in this moment (how fit he is). He is not on the level of the rest of the squad because he missed a lot of weeks. But he needs games and he needs training, a lot.”

Who else made Ten Hag’s starting XI?

Ronaldo shared the spotlight with £46.5 million ($57m) summer signing Lisandro Martinez, with the former Ajax handed a centre-back berth alongside Raphael Varane.

Christian Eriksen made Ten Hag’s line-up after a cameo showing against Atletico, while Argentine youngster Alejandro Garnacho and Donny van de Beek were also included.

  • Manchester United to introduce safe standing next season

Manchester United will introduce a section of safe standing next season after getting approval from Trafford Council.

The aim is to have the section, which will be 1,500 seats in J-stand in the North East quadrant, in place for the start of the next season, whenever that may be.

The club have been working with safety advisory organisations and fan groups to introduce the rail seating in a hope it will enhance fan safety in a part of the stadium where there is persistent standing.

United conducted a feasibility study and a formal proposal was put to the local Safety Advisory Group in December 2019 and has now been given approval from Trafford Council. It is understood if the trial is successful the club will look at potentially installing the rail seating in other areas of the stadium to promote safe standing.

Managing director Richard Arnold said: “It should be stated, up front, that our overwhelming priority is to keep our people safe from the Covid-19 pandemic. It may seem strange to talk about stadium plans at this time, but football and our fans will return when it is safe, and our preparations for that must continue in the background.

“This announcement is the latest step in what has been a long journey with our fans. We have listened to their feedback, in particular, the representations made by Manchester United Supporters’ Trust [MUST], and worked with Trafford Council to develop and approve this proposal.

“Our belief is that the introduction of barrier seats will enhance spectator safety in areas of the stadium where as with other clubs we have seen examples of persistent standing. It also allows us to future-proof the stadium in the event of any changes to the current all-seater stadium policy.

“If the trial is successful, we may consider further implementation of barrier seating in other parts of the stadium.

“We will now move on to develop the installation, compliance and licensing plan for the trial, with a view to having the new seats installed for when we can welcome our supporters back to Old Trafford.”

MUST, who have worked with the club on trying to get rail seating installed, said: “We are delighted that the slub has been given the green light to proceed with a barrier seating trial at Old Trafford. This area works for the club logistically and it was also preferable due to being an area where fans now stand and therefore barrier seats should enhance safety.”

Fan groups across all clubs have been lobbying Government officials to change the law on standing at football and to bring in rail seating to increase safety for supporters who stand for the entire game.

Wolves became the first Premier League side to trial rail seating in January 2019 and Tottenham included 7,500 seats – 5,000 in the home end and 2,500 in the away – which could be turned into a safe standing section at their new stadium, which opened in April 2019.

  • Man United apply for permission to install rail seating at Old Trafford

Manchester United have applied for permission to install rail seating for up to 1,500 fans at Old Trafford.

United, one of the major supporters of safe standing, made the request to their local Safety Advisory Group (SAG) in December 2019.

The club proposes to replace some existing seats in the north-east corner of the stadium.

Season ticket holders in that area have been told a safe standing trial is likely to take place later this season.

In minutes published from a recent fans’ forum meeting, United said it believed the introduction of rail seating will “enhance spectator safety” in areas of “persistent standing”.

It added that the SAG is still reviewing the request.

Tottenham’s new stadium has “safe seating” which has been “future-proofed” for the potential introduction of standing, while Wolves installed rail seating at their Molineux ground in the summer.

“It is fantastic news that the world’s most famous club is seeking to enhance spectator safety in this way,” said Jon Darch, of the Safe Standing campaign group.

“Hopefully, they will be very soon be able to not only install rail seats but also to operate any areas of Old Trafford fitted with this form of seating as official standing areas.”

It comes just days after a government report found stadium seating areas which incorporate barriers have a “positive impact on spectator safety”.

The interim report from the Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA) found such seating areas “mitigate the risk of crowd collapse”.

The government previously stated it “will work with fans and clubs towards introducing safe standing”.
