Man Enough or Not: The size of the penis

If I were to ask the average Ghanaian man which part of his body he would choose to save in a life-threatening situation, my best guess would be the penis.

Given that the male reproductive organ is crucial for human reproduction and continuity, it is understandable why many men, both locally and globally, prioritize protecting this vital asset.

While the penis is undeniably important, one aspect that seems to garner even more attention is its size.

Over the past decade, observations—both intentional and unintentional—have led me to the conclusion that men have long prided themselves on how well-endowed they are.

In an all-male Senior High School setting, discussions about the penis were among the most frequent topics, alongside girls and sex—not mutually exclusive issues.

You might argue that this focus was due to the all-boys environment, but I beg to differ. The underlying belief was that a man’s worth was linked to his ability to provide “good sex,” which many believed was dependent on penis size.

In the near future, we will examine expert opinions on the role of size in sexual satisfaction.

Reflecting on my high school days, I remember how young boys were preoccupied with the size of their penises. The frequency of debates about who was better endowed was astonishing. Knowing the size of one’s penis was as crucial as knowing one’s age. Any measure of size was referenced in discussions about girls and sex.

Those who were well-endowed took pride in showing off, while those who felt less endowed either exaggerated their size, claimed to be “growers,” or told the truth.

The message being communicated seemed to be that a man’s worth was determined by the size of his penis. To validate one’s manhood, one needed to deliver exceptional pleasure, thereby boosting his ego.

My experiences at the tertiary level echoed similar sentiments.

Living in a communal bathroom for a year, I struggled with the lack of privacy initially. Unlike my reserved nature, which was often mistaken for affluence, I had to adapt to sharing the bathroom with about 12 boys. I quickly learned the best times and places for privacy.

In that large bathroom, boys from all walks of life – colour, shape and size could be found. A prim and proper me just rushed in, finished my business and walked out. But the care-free ones did not mind walking about naked and displaying their God given talent.

Reflecting on this, I noticed that those with smaller penises were less concerned about showing off. They didn’t seem to link their masculinity with their size.

Yet, comments from three roommates in a more upgraded residence with an in-built washroom reinforced the idea that manliness was tied to size. Remarks like “You are a man” from a roommate to another, accompanied by taunts when we got out of bed confirmed this belief.

I believe that manliness encompasses much more than penis size. While the penis is a primary characteristic of a man (or male), true manliness involves responsibilities to oneself and one’s surroundings.

Unfortunately, many young men today still prioritize size over other qualities. This obsession has led some to resort to unapproved methods like pills or creams to enlarge their penises, risking their health.

The societal perception of manliness based on size is not inherent but a result of societal influence. Interviews conducted reveal that many people prefer well-endowed men, based on personal experience or hearsay.

Preferences are valid, but it’s crucial to express them respectfully, without belittling those who may not fit one’s ideal.

Health experts confirm that size is not the only factor in sexual satisfaction. Skill and maneuvering can make a sexual experience memorable, regardless of size.

This article aims to shed light on men’s mental health. Embracing oneself is crucial for building self-confidence and presenting the best version of oneself. Regardless of size, every man is “man enough,” and indeed, all sizes matter.

Below is a video of a group of men asked about the size of their penis and they share more than a number.

Senya Bereku: Spiritual healer, client arrested after man got beaten over missing genitals

A spiritual healer at Jehovah El Shaddai 7th Day Sabbath Assembly, and his client are currently in police custody after a man in his late 30s was brutally beaten by a group of motorcycle riders over an allegation of causing the disappearance of a colleague rider’s penis in Senya Bereku, Central Region.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, April 10, around 22:00hrs at Zion C Basic School. Approximately 30 individuals armed with welding metals, stones, and sticks stormed the victim’s residence, identified as Mr. Isaac Saint.

They claimed that a ‘pragya‘ driver informed them that his penis vanished after he picked up the victim.

Eyewitnesses reported that the pragya driver alleged his penis disappeared shortly after dropping off the victim at home. Despite pleas for mercy, the victim was mercilessly beaten with metals, sticks, and stones, resulting in severe injuries and blood oozing from his nostrils, head, and other parts of his body.

The Senya Bereku police intervened and escorted the victim to Senya Polyclinic for a medical examination, which revealed that his penis was intact. The victim disclosed that he had visited a spiritual healer at Jehovah El Shaddhai 7th Day Sabbath Assembly, who prayed for him.

Following the examination, the police arrested the complainant and the spiritual healer, both of whom are in police custody. The victim is currently receiving treatment at the Winneba Specialist and Trauma Hospital.

At the church, some members claimed that the complainant had arrived with a shrunken penis and that the pastor’s prayers had restored it, asserting the innocence of the pastor.

Dr. Samuel Agyapong, Acting Medical Superintendent at Senya Polyclinic, emphasized the importance of verifying allegations through medical examination before resorting to violence.

He cautioned against blindly brutalizing individuals based on unverified claims.

‘Trotro mate’ remanded for reporting fake story on penis shrinking

An 18-year-old driver’s mate has been remanded by a District Court in Awutu Bereku in the Central Region for claiming that his penis shrunk after a mason touched his shoulders.

Emmanuel Arhinful, the driver’s mate, was remanded after a medical examination revealed that his penis was “intact and functioning normally without any deformity.”

Arhinful has been charged with publication of false news and deceiving a public officer, Corporal Mercy Nyarko Boatemaa, by alleging that his penis shrunk after being touched by the complainant, Prince Zo Brimo.

Despite denying the charges, Arhinful was remanded into police custody to reappear on April 17, 2024.

Prosecutors, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Thomas Sarfo and Chief Inspector Bernice Wie Kpuusuu, told the court that the complainant, Prince Zo Brimo, a mason residing at Liberia Camp, was followed by Arhinful while he was on his way to Ofaakor.

Brimo became alarmed when he noticed Arhinful following him and sought assistance from the Kasoa New Market Police Station.

During interrogation, Arhinful alleged that his manhood had shrunk after Brimo touched his shoulders at the Kasoa MTN office. He was then issued a Police medical report form for examination.

The medical report confirmed that Arhinful’s penis was “intact and functioning normally without any deformity.”

Arhinful was subsequently arrested and cautioned.

  • Prolonged erection: All you need to know about piapism

Prolonged erection: All you need to know about piapism

Imagine enduring a prolonged penile erection without any sexual stimulation—a condition causing anguish, discomfort, and disrupting urinary tracts, hindering the ability to pass urine.

While priapism may seem confined to the medical realm, its implications extend beyond physical health.

For those affected, it can impact psychological well-being and overall quality of life significantly.

Despite its relatively low prevalence compared to other medical conditions, the seriousness of priapism cannot be overstated. Swift medical attention is essential to prevent potential complications such as tissue damage, erectile dysfunction, or, in severe cases, loss of life.

This condition is particularly prevalent in men with sickle cell disease, where sickled red blood cells block the outflow of blood during an erection, leading to a prolonged state.

If left untreated, priapism can cause permanent damage to the penis and erectile dysfunction. Academic research defines priapism as persistent, painful, and abnormal swelling of the penis unrelated to sexual stimulation, often resulting in painful erection.

The accumulation of blood in the cavernous sinusoids during priapism leads to irreversible fibrosis and destruction of erectile tissue, culminating in permanent erectile dysfunction if the erection persists for more than 24 to 48 hours.

Men with sickle cell disease are particularly prone to this condition due to their abnormal blood cell shape. The crescent-like shape of sickled red blood cells hinders the normal flow of blood during an erection, increasing the likelihood of priapism.

Various treatments exist for priapism, including the application of cold lotions and the use of drugs like potassium bromide to reduce sexual desire. If conventional methods fail, surgical intervention is considered to create a shunt between the penile tissue and the vein, bypassing the obstructed blood cells.

Prompt intervention is crucial, as appropriate treatment varies based on whether the priapism is low-flow or high-flow, aiming to prevent long-term erectile dysfunction.

Man with sickle cell suffers prolonged erection 48 hours

A 42-year-old sickle cell patient, Stephen Danquah, is grappling with priapism, a rare and distressing condition causing a prolonged and painful erection for two days without sexual stimulation.

Danquah, unable to urinate or find relief, expressed his agony to Accra-based TV3, contemplating suicide due to the unbearable pain.

Neglected by fearful family members, Mr Danquah struggles to raise funds for medication and surgery advised by Korle Bu Teaching Hospital doctors, warning of potential life-threatening consequences if untreated.

“I have an erection which has not been able to go down for two days. Then also I am suffering with my scrotum and my penis. I am not able to pass urine or even get to sleep. I have been crying since.

“Even my family members don’t want to come closer to me because of my condition. As a result, I have been struggling to get money to take care of myself, get medications or go for a review. I was told by the hospital, Korle Bu, to at least try and get the surgery done otherwise, I would lose my life.

“… Because of the pain I am going through, sometimes, I get the urge to take my life because I am in pain. At the moment, I am not bothered about where to sleep, I am only concerned about how to get this off me,” he explained.

Facing immense pain, Danquah has contemplated suicide, prioritizing treatment over basic needs.

A urologist highlighted priapism’s impact on sickle cell patients, emphasizing its concern for both short and long-term effects on their lives.

Priapism is a medical emergency, trapping blood in the penis and causing prolonged and painful erections. If untreated, it can lead to severe complications, including permanent damage, erectile dysfunction, or gangrene.

  • For men: 4 signs your penis is healthy

For men: 4 signs your penis is healthy

Taking care of the penis should be prioritised to prevent bacterial build-ups that can lead to infections and diseases.

Everyone’s penis is different from the others in terms of its size, shape, type, and amount of discharge that it releases. But you should take care of your penis as much as you do for other parts of the body.

As important as it is for women to take care of their vaginal health, for men, it is as crucial to maintaining a healthy penis.

Both penile and testicular health determine overall health, which is why regular self-examination can help you stay aware of any changes in the intimate area. But how to know what a healthy penis feels or looks like? Here’s all you need to know.

    • Note the colour of the penis

One of the ways you can tell whether your penis is healthy or not is by checking the colour of the penis. Research from Medical News Today shares that a penis should be roughly the same colour as the surrounding skin, though it may be a shade darker or lighter. Furthermore, it reports that a person should not have any pain in their penis when urinating or engaging in sexual activity.

    • Free of lumps

Lumps in the penis can be of many different types. Most of them are harmless. However, any type of penile lumps can indicate an unhealthy penis. One of the primary causes could be a blockage in the sebaceous gland, which can lead to the formation of cysts, a tissue sac filled with pus or fluid. Most cysts go away on their own, while some get worse and more painful.

    • No abnormal discharge

Research suggests that a healthy penis is free of lesions, warts, and abnormal discharge. There are usually no bumps including those caused by a cyst or pimples, also called pearly penile papules. These are also called hirsutoid papillomas – tiny, skin-coloured bumps on the head of the penis.

    • Free of sores or inflammation

An irritated penis can be a sign of an unhealthy penis. Balanitis is a common condition characterized by inflammation of the head of the penis. The condition can be caused by bacterial or fungal infections or can result from chemicals, viruses or allergies. Furthermore, when one fails to keep the inside of the foreskin clean, balanitis can occur.

Scrap dealer uses super glue to seal tip of his penis

32-year-old scrap metal dealer, Musah Seidu, has sealed the tip of his penis with solution glue, often known as super glue.

Residents of Wasa Nananko in the Amenfi East Municipality in the Western Region are shocked by the scrap dealer’s conduct.

Musah Seidu is reportedly known to have been allegedly using penis enlargement medicine to have bouts of sex with women in the area especially prostitutes.

He’s said to have contracted a sexually transmitted disease that has left him with frequent urination (urinating every two minutes).

Frustrated by this frequent urination, Musah Seidu reportedly sealed the tip of his penis with the solution glue in a bid to stop the urine from flowing.

However, the act rather threw him into discomfort as he was left with severe pain.

Unable to bear the pain, he was rushed to the hospital where he’s on admission for medical attention.

  • Man compensated $65K by French hospital after series of errors led to the removal of his penis

A French man is $65,000 richer after a surgery left him without his penis.

According to the New York Post, a French hospital compensated a man nearly $65,000 after a series of errors during surgery resulted in the “total removal of his penis.” The procedure, which took place at the Nantes University Hospital, left him with “no feeling” where his penis used to be.

“I have hatred towards this doctor who did not listen to me,” the unidentified victim told local rag Frenchblue. “He played Russian roulette with me!”

According to the Cleveland Clinic, the procedure occurred after the man, a father of three, had been diagnosed with carcinoma. In an effort to deal with the tumor, a urologist at the hospital made the decision to remove the man’s penis.

“Indeed he had removed everything,” the man said. “He had just left the testicles and had cut at the base. I’m really devastated and it’s really shameful.”

The victim added, “You can’t replace a feeling of a penis with several sensors.”

The victim’s lawyer, initially sued for one million euros, a lawsuit which was subsequently rejected by the French court. However, he reportedly plans to file an appeal on the grounds that the “psychological damage was not taken into account.”

  • 3000-yr-old 21-inch stone penis discovered in Sweden

A large stone penis has been uncovered by archaeologists in Sweden who believe it may have been used for sacrificial fertility rituals.

The impressive 21-inch stone was discovered during an excavation in Rollsbo near Gothenburg.

It was originally thought to be a Bronze Age grave but has now been linked to a fertility cult.

Archaeologist Gisela Ängeby told local paper the Göteborgs-Posten: ‘It has a distinct phallus shape. I thought when I came across it that “oh my god it can’t be true.”

‘I showed the picture to colleagues and there is no discussion, it has a very penis-like shape.’

Phallic stones often show up during excavations but it is rare to find one so closely modeled on the real thing, leading the team to their fertility ritual theory.

In addition to the stone phallus, the archaeologists found animal bones and shaped stones.

No human bones were found, leading them to discard their original theory of a graveyard but evidence show that animals may have been slaughtered there as part of a fertility ritual.

The researchers believe it was a sacrificial site from the later part of the Bronze Age, between 1800 and 500 BC.

Gisela said: ‘I believe that in connection with the erection, it was used to offer sacrifices, for example within the framework of a fertility cult.’

Remarkably, the archaeologists believe the stone may have had its shape naturally before it was later refined.
