  • Air Force Secretary to be piloted by AI-operated fighter plane in test of military’s future

Air Force Secretary to be piloted by AI-operated fighter plane in test of military’s future

The Air Force is planning to use over 1,000 drones in future air warfare. Its leader will also fly in a plane operated by artificial intelligence.

Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall said he will fly in one of the converted F-16s to see how well the AI-controlled plane works.

“I will have a pilot with me who will be watching while the autonomous technology works,” Kendall told the Senate Appropriations Committee defense panel members. “Hopefully, neither of us will have to fly the airplane. ”

The use of drones in war has grown fast, and now they are one of the main weapons used in combat. Drones are a big problem every day in Ukraine and in the Middle East. In Ukraine, regular people are being attacked by Russian drones, but they are also making drones to film Russian locations. In the Middle East, groups supported by Iran have been using advanced drones in the air, sea, and underwater to attack US bases and ships in the Red Sea.

The Air Force started making plans for its team of fighting planes, called CCAs, a few years ago. They imagine a situation where one pilot can control many AI-powered drones, also known as “loyal wingmen. ”

The company won’t say what the drones will look like, whether they will be big or small. Kendall wants to watch a test flight of a converted F-16 so he can see the technology for future planes.

The fleet is being made to be ready for future fights, including a possible war with China. China has improved its ability to stop other countries from getting close to its territory by using better weapons like air defense systems. This makes it dangerous for other countries to send people too close to China. Drone planes could help the military get past enemy defenses and support missions like watching and blocking signals in the future.

The Air Force asked for $559 million in the 2025 budget to keep working on the future CCA air system.

“The aircraft was originally supposed to be used for air defense, but it has the capability to do other tasks,” Kendall said.

The drone fleet is also expected to cost less than making new manned jets, Kendall said. The goal is to make each one cost about $20 million, which is much less than what an F-35 fighter costs now.

50 people suffer injuries as plane “freezes” in midair in New Zealand

Many people on a plane to New Zealand got hurt when the plane suddenly froze in the course of movement during the flight. They had to go to the hospital after the plane landed.

The plane from Sydney to Auckland had a problem and began to drop on Monday afternoon.

According to the St John ambulance, one person is in a serious condition and the rest are in moderate to minor condition.

“They said that 13 patients have been taken to Middlemore Hospital in ambulances so far,” said the statement.

Four ambulance cars, two managers in charge, one vehicle for major emergencies, one Command Unit, and two quick response vehicles were sent to help with the problem at first.

Another person on the plane said to the NZ Herald that they felt a small sudden fall during the flight over the Tasman Sea from New Zealand to Australia.

She said: “I used to work on airplanes and this is the first time I have seen the entire plane stop moving. ”

A person speaking for the Chilean airline said: “The plane landed at Auckland Airport on time. ”

The incident made some passengers and cabin crew feel unwell. They got help right away at the airport from the medical team if they needed it.

‘Latam is sorry for any problems and harm this situation may have caused its passengers, and it wants to make sure that safety is always the most important thing when following its rules for operation. ‘

The airline flies back and forth between Sydney, Auckland, and many big cities in South America.

A new flight has been planned for people who were going to travel from Auckland to Santiago, Chile.

Plane crash causes deadly park fire in Florida

A little plane crashed into a trailer park in Clearwater, Florida, on Thursday night. This caused a fire to start and it spread to the mobile homes. Firefighters say the fire was very big.

Firefighters got a call about a plane crash at 7:08 PM and went to the scene right away.

Clearwater’s Fire Chief, Scott Ehlers, said they got a call at the same time the airport said a plane was in trouble.

The air traffic control heard the pilot say “mayday” before the plane went missing.

A video of the accident at Bayside Waters mobile home park shows broken pieces all over the road.

Chief Ehlers told the news that four trailers were very damaged, and one was hit by the plane.

He said the fires were put out fast.

Three houses were checked for people but no one was found. The people living in the houses were inside when the plane crashed but they were able to get out safely.

Investigators are still trying to get to the trailer that was hit by the plane.

The pilot is thought to have died, he said.

The FAA said the plane that crashed was a single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza V35. The plane had an engine failure before the crash.

The statement said we don’t know how many people were on the boat.

The FAA and NTSB will look into the crash and find out what happened.

Plane with Indian nationals, detained in France, arrives in India

A plane carrying hundreds of Indian nationals who were held for days at an airport in France over human trafficking fears has arrived in India.

The chartered Airbus A340, which had been flying from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Nicaragua, aroused suspicion during a refuelling stop.

It left with 276 passengers but 25 people including two minors remained in France after applying for asylum.

Two suspected traffickers also remain in France for further investigation.

However the two were set free by the courts.

The Legend Airlines flight landed in Mumbai early on Tuesday local time.

Image caption,French authorities had grounded the plane over suspicion of trafficking

Photos shared by news agency ANI show several passengers sitting on plastic chairs at the Mumbai airport after the flight landed. Some of the passengers could be seen leaving the airport but BBC Marathi reports that most of them refused to answer questions from the media.

The plane had initially been prevented from leaving Châlons-Vatry Airport, about 130km (81 miles) from Paris, on Thursday after authorities received an anonymous tip-off that some passengers might be “victims of human trafficking”, Parisian prosecutors say.

Most of those aboard were believed to be Indian citizens working in the UAE. A third of the passengers are reported to be from India’s affluent western state of Gujarat.

French authorities reportedly also suspected that the people on board might have been travelling to Nicaragua before attempting to enter the US or Canada.

It was not clear whether authorities had definitively determined that no crime had been committed before allowing the plane to leave.

It is also unclear why the flight went to Mumbai instead of resuming its journey to Nicaragua.

Legend Airlines is a Romanian charter airline with a fleet of four planes, according to the online flight tracker Flightradar.

  • Dramatic video of plane accident in Mali released

A video has been found of a plane crashing and catching fire at an airport in Gao, northern Mali. It is believed to be a plane from Mali’s air force.

Some people have guessed that Russian mercenaries from the Wagner group might have been on the ship, but we do not have proof of this yet.

The plane can be seen landing in what seems to be a late touchdown, and then going past the runway really fast.

Then, it forcefully goes through what seems to be solid barriers made of concrete before tumbling down a slope into a small, low area in the ground and bursting into flames.

A picture of the destroyed plane is now on the internet. It shows that a large part of the plane’s body was burnt.
A satellite picture from Planet Labs shows smoke coming from the wreckage. The ground that had been recently dug up between the wreckage and the runway was also noticeable, showing that it went too far past the runway.

Mali’s army has not given a response about the crash yet. The BBC has found some posts on social media that honor a Russian pilot who is believed to have died in the accident.

The airport in Gao, Mali is used by the Malian forces, Wagner mercenaries, and the UN peacekeeping mission.

The country is experiencing more and more attacks from Islamist militants and Tuareg rebels in the northern part.

  • Russian plane forced to land in maize farm

Russian plane forced to land in maize farm

A plane from Russia with 170 people aboard had to make an emergency landing in a field of maize because something went wrong with its hydraulic system.

Nobody got hurt in the accident. The Ural Airlines Airbus A320 got stuck near a forest in the Novosibirsk region of Siberia.

Ural said that the pilot chose the place to land after the jet’s hydraulic systems stopped working while getting near Omsk.

The airline denied that it couldn’t maintain its planes because of sanctions on Russia.

The pictures showed a plane stuck in a field of corn. The doors were open and ramps were down, and there were people walking around.

A video on social media showed a big machine cutting apart a plane, removing the cockpit, tail, and wings so that it could be taken away from the field more easily.

Russia’s aviation agency, Rosaviatsia, reported that an unexpected landing occurred early on Tuesday.

It also said that they chose a place to land from the sky near the village of Kamenka. No one on board asked for medical help, it said.

Rosaviatsia stated that they are looking into the emergency landing situation, and Ural Airlines mentioned that the crew members are temporarily relieved of duty until the investigation is finished.
The leader of Ural Airlines, Sergei Skuratov, stated that a part of the plane that controls its movement and brakes stopped working while it was flying from Sochi to Omsk on the coast of the Black Sea.

He said the marks above the wing in pictures were just dirt and that the plane did not catch fire.

If a plane’s hydraulic systems have a really bad problem, it can make the plane very hard to steer and control.

However, Russian aviation experts said that there are extra systems in place and disagreed with the crew’s choice to abandon the aircraft.

“Andrei Litvinov, the pilot of the A320, told Gazeta. ru that there are three hydraulic systems and one electric system. ” “We don’t have to land the plane in a field. ”

He said that the decision put the lives of people on the plane and on the ground at risk.
Sanctions against Russia are causing problems for airlines.

The emergency landing happened because Russian airlines are having trouble getting necessary parts for their planes because of sanctions from Western countries. The sanctions are because of Russia’s actions in Ukraine.

In March, a Russian media company called Vedomosti reported that Ural Airlines official Igor Poddubny said they had approximately three months left before they started taking apart planes to use their parts.

However, Skuratov insists that all the planes in his airline are fixed with real parts.

Mr Skuratov said that we will never let wrong spare parts be used. It’s hard and takes effort, but all the spare parts used on our aircraft are approved.

“I guarantee it with certainty. ”

The Interfax agency said that the A320 plane that crashed was around 20 years old and had a certificate saying it was safe to fly until the end of next year.

In August, Reuters mentioned that Ural Airlines and other Russian airlines found a way to evade Western sanctions multiple times. They used intermediaries in countries like China and the UAE, which don’t follow the restrictions.

In 2019, a Ural Airlines airplane had to land in a field near Moscow because some birds hit it while it was taking off. About 70 out of the 230 people traveling in the plane were hurt in the accident, which Russian media called the “miracle over Ramensk”.

The crew received awards from the government later on.

Isle of Man cliff struck by small aircraft

On the Isle of Man, a plane has collided with the side of a cliff.

When the incident occurred yesterday at Bradda Head in Port Erin at around 12 o’clock, there was only one person on board.

At this time, it is uncertain how the pilot is doing.

Heavy smoke can be seen pouring over Bradda Head in video.

The Belfast Coastguard and all of the island’s emergency services were present at the scene, according to the BBC.

Police said they were ‘working with aviation crash investigators through the evening’.

The island also remains ‘under police guard and the public should avoid the area’.

A witness wrote on Twitter: ‘I phoned 999 straight away, witnessed the flames go up after hearing a low aircraft engine noise but wasn’t sure where it was.

‘The engine noise I heard was normal however I can’t be 100% certain it was that aircraft as it’s near the airport.’

  • Lil Win recounts how an airline denied him access to shoot a movie despite willing to pay $5000

Ghanaian actor and producer Kwadwo Nkansah, also known as Lil Win, has opened out about the difficulties that the entertainment industry face regarding finding suitable sites for their productions.

Speaking in an interview with Zion Felix, Lil Win detailed how an airline denied his production team the use of an airplane for a movie shoot, even after agreeing to pay a fee of $5,000.

“Let’s say you need the airport for a project. You will send letters and everything, but you will never be granted access. And when you are denied access and you compromise to shoot the movie, you will bitterly be criticized for not using the airport scene as it needed to be.”

“The reason why we were unable to feature the airport is that we even wanted to use an actual plane in the movie, and we were willing to pay. A fee of $3,000 was quoted for Kumasi and $5,000 for Accra. We were willing to pay, but the airline refused,” he shared.

According to the award-winning actor, movie producers are unfairly criticized for producing mediocre content, while they are compelled to improvise.

“I don’t understand it when the movie comes out and they criticize us that it is not nice. If we were given access to the plane, we would have landed it nicely in the movie. But we don’t get it; you want a police station for a shoot, you won’t be given; military uniform, you will not get it; you request access to a hospital for a shoot, and you are equally denied. Meanwhile, the story requires that you feature the hospital, airport, or police station to complete the story,” he bemoaned.

He added that the situation in Nigeria is not the same, as the country boasts a more supportive and enabling industry. More sadly, he emphasized that producers in Ghana are denied access even when they are willing to pay.

Players in the entertainment industry, mostly YouTubers, have been voicing their struggles in the industry following an altercation between popular skit maker Dr. Likee and security officers at the Achimota Mall.

The popular comedy skit maker was prevented from shooting a video at the mall on the grounds of not obtaining appropriate permission.

Several players in the industry, including Ghana’s biggest YouTuber, Wode Maya, have condemned the incident captured in a viral video.

“Is there any other continent apart from Africa that you need to ask for permission to shoot a video around a shopping mall, train station, airport, and so-called public areas? When I was based in China, I literally filmed everywhere, and sometimes you even get paid to film in such areas… This village mentality needs to stop in 2023!” he stated in a tweet.

“It’s about time content creators in Africa unite and speak against harassment while filming in public areas… The new digital media is here, and you all should get used to it,” he said in a subsequent post.

Sudan: Fighter plane crashes in Omdurman

Reports from Sudan indicate that a military fighter plane has crashed near the capital city of Khartoum in Omdurman.

The cause of the crash, whether it was due to being shot down or a technical failure, remains unclear.

Videos circulating on social media show the aircraft engulfed in flames before plummeting to the ground. Additionally, separate footage captures two pilots descending from the plane using parachutes.

In another video, an injured man dressed in army uniform appears disoriented and is seen in the back of a car, seemingly held captive by armed individuals who are celebrating.

Local residents in the area have reported intense fighting, which has occurred on the second day of a ceasefire intended to reduce clashes, although it has not fully ceased the hostilities.

The ceasefire aims to facilitate the delivery of much-needed aid to the region, but its effectiveness has been limited thus far. Humanitarian workers are awaiting security permits and guarantees to commence their operations.

  • 60 people injured from plane fuel dumping

Sixty people were treated after a plane dumped jet fuel while returning to the Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday, hitting five elementary schools and one high school.

The incident happened just after noon Tuesday, inspector Sean Ferguson of the Los Angeles County Fire Department told CNN. The most heavily affected school was Park Avenue Elementary in Cudahy, where 20 children and 11 adults reported minor injuries. The school is about 19 miles east of the airport.

The other schools affected were San Gabriel Elementary, Graham Elementary, Tweedy Elementary, 93rd Street Elementary and Jordan High School.

After checking all of the affected schools later Tuesday, hazardous materials experts said there was no more danger, fire department officials said. All schools will be open and operating on their normal schedules Wednesday.

“With the monitoring devices that we have, there are no explosive limits that are being detected at all, as well as solid or liquid products remaining,” Battalion Chief Jason Robertson said in a news conference, adding that the fire department believes all of the jet fuel has evaporated.

Some people who were hit by the jet fuel Tuesday were decontaminated with soap and water, but no one at any site needed to be taken to the hospital, Sgt. Rudy Perez with the Los Angeles School Police Department said. The schools briefly went through shelter-in-place procedures, but there were no evacuations.

The children were given gowns so they could change out of their clothes, fire department inspector Sky Cornell said, adding there were no reports of injuries from other people in the area.

Justin Guiti, a fifth grader at Park Avenue, was hit by the fuel. He told CNN it sprayed all over him and his friends, even getting into his eye.
“Drops of water were coming down. I thought it was a rainbow, and I looked up, and it was gasoline,” he said.

Miguel Cervantes, a sixth grader, was also hit. He said his skin was itchy afterward.

“I thought it was smoke,” he said. “But when it went down, I felt it and it smelled like gas.”

Delta Air Lines said the fuel came from Flight 89, which had just taken off from LAX bound for Shanghai, China, when it “experienced an engine issue requiring the aircraft to return quickly to LAX.”

“The aircraft landed safely after a release of fuel, which was required as part of normal procedure to reach a safe landing weight,” the airline said.
The aircraft is a Boeing 777-200, according to Delta’s website, with 288 passenger seats.

Delta said it is in touch with airport authorities and the LA County Fire Department, and it expressed concern for those who reported injuries.

A video posted on YouTube shows the plane overhead with white streaks coming from the tips of the wings. Alan De Leon, who shot the video, told CNN he heard a loud whistle, smelled jet fuel and felt irritation in his eyes.

The Federal Aviation Administration said it is investigating the incident.

David Soucie, an aviation safety analyst, told CNN there are maximum takeoff and landing weights for aircraft, so in order for a plane with full fuel tanks to land, it must dump the fuel to avoid potentially crashing upon landing.

“There are special fuel-dumping procedures for aircraft operating into and out of any major US airport,” the FAA said Tuesday. “These procedures call for fuel to be dumped over designated unpopulated areas, typically at higher altitudes so the fuel atomizes and disperses before it reaches the ground.”

The Los Angeles Unified School District said its health and safety inspectors were working to ensure the outside areas of the schools are safe for attendance.

They were travelling to provide logistical support to a military base on Antarctica’s King George Island. A search-and-rescue mission is under way.

Air Force General Eduardo Mosqueira told local media that the plane did not activate any distress signal.

He said the plane, whose pilot had extensive experience, may have been forced to land after running out of fuel.

An air force statement that the plane was about 450 miles into its 770-mile journey when contact was lost, placing it within the Drake Passage.

The Drake Passage is body of water connecting the South Atlantic and South Pacific Oceans, and is known for treacherous weather conditions. But Chile’s air force said local weather was good at the time of the plane’s disappearance.

President Sebastián Piñera said in a tweet that he was “dismayed” by the loss, and was monitoring the situation from the capital, Santiago.

Chile controls over 1.2 million sq km (463,000 sq miles) of Antarctic territory, bordering land claimed by the UK and Argentina. Within this territory it operates nine bases – the most of any country in the world.
