Police to give black family detained at gunpoint $1.9 million

A black mom and her four kids who were threatened by police in Colorado will get $1. 9m (£15m) as a result of the settlement.

In 2020, Brittney Gilliam and her family were unfairly stopped in a parking lot. Brittney was with her six-year-old daughter, nieces aged 14 and 17, and her 12-year-old sister.

The event, which was recorded on video, made a lot of people very angry.

Ms Gilliam took legal action against the officers, claiming they were deeply rooted in racism.

The police in Aurora, Colorado, thought they saw Ms. Gilliam’s car being stolen. They were trained to do a risky stop.

They said sorry for what happened and offered to pay for therapy for the kids.

On the day Ms. Gilliam and the girls got arrested, they went to a nail salon but it was closed so they went back to their car.

The police officers came close to the car with their guns ready, while the family was getting in.

On social media, people posted videos showing Ms Gilliam and the four girls lying on the ground in a parking lot.

Ms Gilliam, her 12-year-old sister, and her 17-year-old niece had their hands tied with handcuffs.

The kids are crying and calling for their mom while people ask the police about what happened.

Are your kids okay after that. When someone points a gun at them and makes them lie on the ground. “Even a six-year-old,” Ms. Gilliam said to CBS shortly after.

The police said that the car’s license plate matched the number of a stolen vehicle from a different state.

The police chief, Vanessa Wilson, said that the officers quickly took off the handcuffs from everyone involved when they realized they had made a mistake.

On Monday, the family’s lawyer, David Lane, said that they came to an agreement with the city of Aurora.

He said in a statement that everyone is happy with the agreement.

The incident happened when people were already thinking a lot about how black people are treated by the police in the US. At that time, the Aurora police department was also getting a lot of criticism for the 2019 death of Elijah McClain, a 23-year-old black man who died while in police custody.

In 2023, a white ex-police officer was given 14 months in jail for killing McClain.

Arrest Northern Regional NSA Director immediately – PAC instructs police over misuse of GHS160K

Parliament of Ghana has authorized the arrest of the Northern Regional Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA) for alleged financial misconduct. The directive comes in response to the director’s failure to deposit more than GHS160,000 in internally generated funds into the designated Consolidated Fund Transit account of the Authority.

The 2022 Auditor General’s report brought attention to the expenditure of these funds by the Northern Regional Management of the Sports Authority, a violation of the Public Financial Management Regulations, 2019. Despite being summoned to appear before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and explain the irregularities outlined in the report, the Regional Director did not comply.

Expressing his dissatisfaction, the Committee Chairman has ordered the immediate arrest of both the regional director and the accountant involved. “We are instructing the police to pick up the regional director and accountant of the region without delay. You were invited to testify before Parliament, and you declined, despite being aware that you had misused over GHS160,000, presuming that you would escape consequences,” stated the chairman.

This development underscores the commitment of the Parliament to uphold financial accountability and transparency within public institutions.

The arrest order emphasizes the gravity of the alleged financial mismanagement and sends a strong message about the consequences for those failing to comply with established financial regulations.

The unfolding situation is expected to prompt further investigation and legal proceedings to address the financial irregularities within the National Sports Authority’s Northern Regional office.

According to reports the enraged youth are fighting for justice for the member of the community and his sister who were both lynched by a suspected robber.

Details emerging in the aftermath of the attack indicates a series of troubling incidents triggered by the murder of a man and his sister some two weeks ago.

A brother of the woman who attempted to rescue the woman was also allegedly murdered by the suspect in a village closer to Bepong.

The youth are said to have sought the support of the chief of Bepong to carry out the lynching but was refused.

Police detains New Juaben royal family members; breaks into stool room

There is tension in the New Juaben traditional area following a break-in at the stool room of the Adwampong royal family in Koforidua.

The group, reportedly supervised by the New Juaben Divisional Police Commander, took this action after the queen mother of the Adwampong royal family resisted the alleged unlawful removal of the black stool.

The stool is intended for the enstoolment of a new Chief for the family, scheduled to take place later in the evening at the Yiadom Hwedie Palace by the Paramount Chief, Daasebere Kwaku Boateng III.

The Queen mother, Nana Akosua Afrakoma II, who has overseen the stool for the past 29 years, expressed her resistance, stating that the claimant to be enstooled is unknown and has not been nominated.

Queen mother, Nana Akosua Afrakoma II,

“I got a call yesterday evening that they tried to take the black stool but couldn’t. This morning, they called the police to break the door and take the stool.

“This is not the right way. We’re all one; I’ve been on the stool for 29 years. Today, they came for the stool, but I don’t even know the new king they’re choosing. I’m not aware. They’ve used the wrong way to break into my home for the stool. They’re doing what they want, but I leave it to the Gods,” Nana Afrakoma II said.

It is reported that the son and daughter of the Queen mother, who were invited by Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Baah to file a formal complaint, have instead been detained upon their arrival at the Koforidua Central police station.

  • Kade Magistrate Court rejects Police plea to compel Kadehene and others to sign peace bond

Kade Magistrate Court rejects Police plea to compel Kadehene and others to sign peace bond

An application by the Ghana Police Service seeking an order to compel the Chief of Kade, Osabarima Agyare Tenadu II, and four others to sign a bond pledging to keep peace in the town has been dismissed.

The decision was taken at  the Kade Magistrate Court on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

The police had approached the court, expressing concerns that Osabarima Agyare Tenadu II’s attendance at multiple funerals in the area between February 2 to 4, 2024, could potentially lead to chaos, breaching public order and peace.

ASP Lois Konadu Bonti, representing the police, urged the judge to allow the application, citing the urgency of the matter. However, Captain Nkrabeah Effah Dartey (retired), counsel for Osabarima Agyare Tenadu II, argued against the application, asserting that the case pertained to a chieftaincy matter over which the court lacked jurisdiction.

Dartey pointed out that recognizing his client’s legitimacy as the chief of Kade, the police had separated him from the other respondents in the suit, suggesting that the police could provide security if needed.

In response, ASP Konadu Bonti informed the court that the police service lacked the personnel to provide the required security, justifying the need for the respondents to sign a bond.

The lawyer for the remaining respondents, Asare Twe II, Abusapanin Otibu Asare, Krontihene Nana Banchie Darko Ampem, and Asafoatse Yaw Danso, noted the short notice given by the police for the application and requested an adjournment. Magistrate George David K. Ofori concurred with the short notice argument and further agreed with Dartey that the matter was a chieftaincy case beyond the jurisdiction of the magistrate court.

Magistrate Ofori urged the police to seek the high court’s intervention, as the case is pending before a High Court, and dismissed the application. In response to the ruling, Dartey emphasized that Osabarima Agyare Tenadu II remains the legitimate chief of Kade, as ruled by a Kumasi High Court.

“The law is that as of today, the Chief of Kade is called Osabarima Agyare Tenadu II. His name is in the register of chiefs, and the legal battle surrounding his status has been resolved to the extent that the matter is pending at the Supreme Court,” Dartey stated, highlighting the ongoing legal dispute surrounding the chieftaincy matter.

Police in Gateshead arrested a man for investigating crimes like genocide and other serious crimes that happened in Rwanda 30 years ago.

The 69-year-old person was asked about the 1994 genocide, when 800,000 people were killed.

Experts from the Counter Terrorism Policing War Crimes Team helped Counter Terrorism Policing North East to make an arrest last Thursday.

Police said the man was let go on bail while they keep investigating.

The War Crimes team is a part of the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command.

Commander Dominic Murphy said they are looking into very serious crimes, and anyone who did them should be punished, no matter where they are.

He said, “Getting proof to support a possible future trial is a difficult process that needs careful and accurate work. ”

“Even though someone has been arrested, the police will keep working on this investigation to make more progress. ‘

The investigation is not related to the war crime inquiries that started in 2018 and involved five people in the UK.

Police detain five guys after discovering bodies in remote Californian desert

The police have taken five people into custody after finding several dead bodies with gunshot wounds in a faraway part of southern California’s Mojave Desert.

Six dead bodies were discovered after someone who had been shot called 911 for help. The police helicopter was sent to the scene of the crime.

Investigators from the San Bernardino Sherriff’s Office said on Monday that the argument seems to be about illegally making marijuana.

Police have found out who four of the six victims are.

All the bodies, which were all men, were found on January 23rd near a road close to the town of El Mirage in San Bernardino County. Police said all six people were killed by gunshots.

Sgt Michael Warrick told reporters on Monday that four of the victims had suffered serious burns.

The investigation started when 911 got a call from a person who said they were shot.

A police helicopter went up and found the victims, as well as a car and van with bullet holes around 8:15 pm local time (4:15 am GMT), about 90 miles northeast of Los Angeles.

Four men were close together, and another man was in a car. The police found the last dead person not far from there.

The video from the sky showed the SUV full of bullet holes, broken windows, and signs of a fire.

“Sgt Warrick said we think the reason for this seems to be a fight about marijuana. ”

The police said in a statement that the victims had planned to meet at the place to buy marijuana.

Five men were arrested for shooting six people at a location. The reasons for the shooting are still being investigated.

Investigators took eight guns and are checking to see if they were used in the killings.

Officials didn’t want to say if the killings were connected to cartels or gangs. They just said it was organized crime.

In California, adults have been allowed to buy and use cannabis since 2016, but there is still a problem with people selling untaxed marijuana illegally.

The incident transpired amid the disorder that unfolded during the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primary in the Yendi constituency.

However, according to Alabira, instead of a response, he was allegedly slapped by the MP. Subsequent violence involving the MP’s team reportedly led to the confiscation of Alabira’s phone.

In an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show, Alabira revealed that despite not sustaining any physical injuries, the incident had taken a toll on his well-being, causing him sleepless nights. He expressed, “Physically, there are no visible injuries; however, for the past two days, I don’t know, maybe if I’m overthinking or something, I couldn’t sleep.”

  • 14-year-old boy kills South Korean politician

14-year-old boy kills South Korean politician

A 14-year-old boy was responsible for hitting a South Korean lawmaker with a rock. He was sent to a mental health facility on Friday, as the police keep looking into the attack.

Last Thursday, a member of the ruling party, Bae Hyunjin, was attacked. This happened shortly after another man stabbed opposition leader Lee Jae-myung in the neck. This raises more worries about the harsh and divided political discussions in the country.

Police talked to the young suspect at the hospital while his parents were there. They will keep asking him questions to find out more. Cheon Young-gil, who works at the Gangnam district police station in Seoul, shared this information.

South Korea’s rules say that if doctors and police agree, a person who might be mentally ill can be sent to the hospital for up to three days to make sure they don’t hurt themselves or others.

Cheon did not want to talk about the suspect’s health after the attack on Thursday in southern Seoul. South Korean media said that people who know the boy but want to stay unnamed, said that he was getting help for feeling very sad.

Cheon said that the suspect was taken to the hospital quickly because of his age and health, but didn’t give any more details. He said if the boy’s parents agree, the police can ask the hospital to keep him there for more than three days.

The police spoke with Bae on Friday at the hospital where she was getting treatment. Bae’s office shared pictures of her coat and sweater with blood on them. People say these were given to the police as proof.

The reason for the attack was not immediately known.

Bae was chosen in 2020 and is considered a close friend of President Yoon Suk Yeol. President Yoon Suk Yeol’s office promised to do a deep investigation of the attack. Politicians from both Yoon’s party and the liberal opposition have criticized the attack as an attack on the country’s democracy. “Our politics are not on the right track anymore. ” We all agree that we should stop the hateful politics, but we still use harsh language towards our opponents. The old-fashioned style of politics that only appeals to the most extreme supporters is still going strong, according to Jung Kwang-jae, a spokesperson for the People Power Party.

In South Korea, politics is very divided. People have different opinions based on their age, beliefs, and where they live. The arguments between political parties are getting worse before the upcoming elections in April. The elections are seen as a way to see if Yoon is popular. He has low approval ratings and the opposition controls the National Assembly, so it’s hard for him to do what he wants.

The security camera video showed the person who attacked Bae. They wore a gray hat and a mask and talked to Bae before hitting her with a small rock. He kept hitting Bae with a sharp tool, even after she dropped to the ground. She fought off the attacker by herself, using her arms to push him away and grabbing his wrist. Then, someone else came out of a door and tried to help.

The leader of the other group, Lee, was in the hospital for eight days after he was attacked. He talked about the attack on Bae and said that his scar hurts again because of this terrible event. He also said that he hopes she gets better soon.

Lee almost won the 2022 election, but Yoon won. The person who attacked Lee said he did it because he didn’t want Lee to become president.

South Korea has experienced more attacks on politicians lately.

In 2022, Song Young-gil, who was the leader of Lee’s Democratic Party, was attacked by a man with a hammer during a rally to support Lee’s campaign for president. The song needed stitches but didn’t get seriously hurt.

In 2006, a man attacked Park Geun-hye, who was a conservative opposition leader, with a box cutter during an election event. Park, who later became president in 2012, had to get 60 stitches to close an 11-centimeter (4-inch) cut on her face.

  • We have reduced armed robbery in Ghana – Police

We have reduced armed robbery in Ghana – Police

The decline in robbery incidents in the country is credited to the dedicated efforts of the current police administration, according to the Director of the Police Public Affairs Directorate, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi.

In an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Face to Face on Citi TV, ACP Ansah-Akrofi highlighted that the administration prioritized addressing violent crimes, particularly robberies, upon assuming leadership of the Ghana Police Service.

She noted the establishment of specialized anti-robbery teams strategically positioned in areas prone to robberies, resulting in improved outcomes and a decrease in violent crimes in those regions.

“A lot of work has gone into fighting robberies. When the current administration and board members took over the affairs of the Police Service, one of the areas that they knew required tackling was fighting crime, especially robberies, and so special teams were set up in robbery-prone areas to ensure that they put in place operations to control such crimes.”

“We have also done a lot of intelligence work so our intel teams across the country continue to work to get information on criminal gangs and networks, and we move on them as and when necessary. Robberies have reduced due to our committed efforts – Police

In most of our releases, when there is a robbery, our response and determination to go after the suspects and arrest them have been largely successful, so we are leaving no stone unturned.”

Police in Spain apprehend group of suspected former military thieves

The Spanish police caught a group of former soldiers from Eastern Europe who were stealing from fancy houses in the southern Málaga province.

Six people got arrested on Wednesday. One of them is believed to be the leader from Albania. A collection of jewelry, watches, money and weapons was discovered.

The gang is accused of stealing from 71 fancy homes and businesses, mostly in Marbella.

The police say the suspects were very good at stealing and breaking into places.

The police say that the people knew a lot about military tactics and were careful about their personal safety and watching for anyone who might be watching them while they walked or drove around. They would change their route or stop suddenly to avoid being followed.

“They were also taught how to enter any kind of building, no matter how tall the walls or fences were, and to move fast and get the job done well,” it says.

The person who is thought to be in charge is believed to have been involved in all of the robberies, and always had a gun with them. The police said he is very good at getting on boats and watching out for people spying on him.

The gang also went after houses in the city of Málaga, as well as in the towns of Estepona and Torremolinos.

In at least four of the robberies, the police said that the robbers used physical force.

The police caught the suspects with the help of a nearby business owner.

We don’t know the nationalities of the other five alleged gangsters.

A Police Constable stationed at the Enchi District Police Command lost his life in a fatal accident on the Kwahu-Omanpe Road in the Aowin Municipality of the Western North Region. The deceased officer, identified as Prince Amoah, was involved in the incident that occurred on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, between 12:00 and 13:00 hours.

Prince Amoah’s body has been deposited at the Agyapa funeral home for autopsy and preservation. Three other personnel who were traveling with him survived the accident but are currently receiving treatment at the Samartex hospital in the Wassa Amenfi West Municipality.

According to reports gathered by the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the police personnel were on their way to carry out their daily routine patrol duty in the Aowin Municipality. They were aboard a vehicle with registration number GP 2694 when the tragic incident occurred.

The vehicle, reportedly traveling on the Kwahu-Omanpe Road, veered off a wooden bridge and landed in a ditch. The accident took place between Kwahu-Omanpe, leading to the unfortunate demise of Prince Amoah. Witnesses in the vicinity immediately responded to the incident, rescuing the victims and rushing them to the Samartex hospital for urgent medical attention.

Despite the efforts made, Constable Prince Amoah could not be saved and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. The surviving personnel are currently undergoing treatment as the community grapples with the shock of the tragic event.

Chief Justice accused of malice, prejudice in police officer’s arrest

In response to recent online reports detailing his arrest at the Supreme Court in November 2023, Assistant Commissioner of Police and lawyer Akolgo Yakubu Ayamga has issued a comprehensive rejoinder.

The arrest, occurring on November 14, 2023, was allegedly triggered by Mr Ayamga’s impassioned outburst, including vocal exchanges with Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo and other Supreme Court justices.

Mr Ayamga’s detailed account challenges the accuracy of media reports, emphasizing nuances allegedly missed.

He described the incident during his case presentation, where he claims to have respectfully presented arguments.

Disagreements ensued after Chief Justice Torkornoo interrupted, stating, “you are shouting,” leading to an order for Mr Ayamga to resume his seat.

The situation escalated with the Chief Justice allegedly making offensive remarks about Mr Ayamga’s competence, prompting him to calmly disagree and resulting in his arrest by a subordinate police officer.

Mr Ayamga contended that the arrest had nothing to do with his disagreement with the Court’s judgment, as initially reported, emphasizing that a mere disagreement should not warrant arrest.

According to the lawyer, the arrest was influenced by the Chief Justice’s rush of anger, prejudice, and malice, constituting an abuse of judicial power.

In his rejoinder, Ayamga asserts that a respectful disagreement should not lead to arrest, describing it as unconscionable, irrational, unfair, and lacking due process.

To address the alleged abuse of power, Ayamga has lodged a complaint with the Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate the incident and the alleged subsequent cover-up by public officers.

Police should be the primary recipient of CCTV footage of criminal activities – Police cautions public

The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has advised the public to directly share Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage of criminal activities with the service rather than posting it on social media.

The GPS believes that this collaborative approach will enhance its investigative efforts and contribute to the swift apprehension of perpetrators, ensuring that they are not left at large.

In an interview on Face to Face on Citi TV Tuesday, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the Director of the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service, emphasized the mutual benefits of such a strategy.

She highlighted that sharing CCTV footage directly with the police would expedite the investigative process and enhance the chances of bringing perpetrators to justice.

“In the event of any incident, instead of circulating the CCTV footage, they should first share it with the police to help in our investigations. Sometimes, putting it out there makes our investigative efforts difficult because if you are a suspect and you know that there is footage of you, it reveals your identity and the like.”

“So we want to entreat everybody; in case there is an incident, please share it with the police instead of putting it out there,” she said.

Man who posts pictures of himself on vacation to mock police wanted

The individual who absconded following their friend’s fatal car accident is now provocatively sharing pictures of their pleasure trip in another country, taunting the police.

Ewan Aaron Corbett, 25, missed his court date in 2022 and the police in the UK are looking for him. He is accused of causing the death of Shane Finn, 21.

He has been seen in Switzerland, Thailand, and Vietnam and is thought to be using a fake name to enter these countries.

The police in the UK asked for help finding him, but he posted pictures of himself with a fake gun in Malaysia.

Interpol wants to arrest Corbett because they think he traveled around Asia using a fake name.

Corbett has been trying to avoid being caught by posting many pictures of himself without a shirt in different beautiful places around the world on his social media.

Corbett has indicated in not-so-obvious ways that he is now a wanted man, like when he titled one of his pictures: ‘Body like Baywatch face like Crimewatch. ’

Another picture of him half naked on a boat was captioned with “Before I go away forever. ”

Prosecutor Timothy Jacobs said in court this week that the person has been traveling in southeast Asia and using a fake name and giving money to get into countries. He has an Interpol red notice and a European Union arrest warrant issued for him.

However, the CPS doesn’t want to start the process to send him back to another country until the police can find out exactly where he is.

People are still working on it and intelligence officers are checking his social media to find out where he is. The Interpol warning is not as serious as a warrant.

“If he goes to a country outside of the EU where Interpol works, they can choose to arrest him, but they don’t have to. ”

North Yorkshire Police are asking for help to find Corbett, who they think may be in another country. They are trying very hard to find him.

Corbett, who is from Middlesbrough, was accused of driving dangerously and causing the death of Shane Finn. He was also charged with driving without a licence or insurance.

Shane died in a car crash in May 2020 while riding in an Audi A3 on Knott Road in the North York Moors National Park.

After leaving the UK, Corbett has posted many pictures on Facebook, appearing to enjoy being wanted by the authorities.

He was photographed on a rugged vehicle in Vietnam on October 10 last year.

Afterwards, he posted a picture of himself on a snowy mountain, saying it was in Switzerland, on October 26th.

On New Year’s Day, Corbett shared pictures of himself swimming in a waterfall and asked his friends and family to share their phone numbers so they could keep in touch.

The lawyers said they think he is now in Thailand, but his latest photo says he’s on Penang Island in Malaysia.

After the court hearing yesterday, they decided that his three-day trial will happen in September. It will happen even if Corbett is not there.

His lawyer, Victoria Lamballe, said that she hasn’t been told what to do by him and may no longer be his lawyer in this case.

Corbett is also accused of driving dangerously in an incident in November 2021, more than a year after Mr. Finn died

The trials for both cases will happen in York Crown Court.

Shane’s family members and a father from Middlesbrough went to the hearing on Monday.

We refused to accept bribes from civilians during 2023 Christmas season – Police

Over the past Christmas season, a number of police officers on patrol duty have disclosed instances where they resisted bribery attempts by civilians.

In 2021, the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) labeled the Ghana Police Service as one of the most corrupt institutions in the country.

A subsequent 2022 research, conducted by the Ghana Statistical Service in collaboration with anti-corruption stakeholders, ranked the Police Service as the most corrupt among 23 sampled institutions.

In response, Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, vehemently rejected the characterization, challenging the credibility of the research.

Despite controversies, there seems to be a collective effort to restore the image of the service, as indicated by accounts of junior personnel rejecting bribes during an evaluation session of police operations at the Police Headquarters.

General Constable Sowu reported, “We received guidance on avoiding extortion, and when on duty, some civilians attempted to offer us money. Fortunately, we consistently declined such offers by the grace of God.”

Another member of the police patrol team corroborated General Constable Sowu’s account, stating, “Some drivers attempted to give money to our colleagues, but they refused. There’s a perception that police always accept bribes, and we are determined to change that narrative.”

As part of his security tour of the Ashanti Region, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare got the rare opportunity to meet one of his subordinates, believed to have one of the longest names in the country.

The police officer in question has nine names. Many surmise that he hails from the northern part of the country. The male General Constable is called Mbatimgba Batikrikri Boyoo Baya Baba Basua Eric Azuma Abdulai.

In a video shared by Graphic Online, the police officers present during the interaction between the IGP and General Constable burst into laughter when he mentioned his name.

The IGP also teased Azuma Abdulai, comparing his name to chapters of a book.

The police leadership, headed by Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, paid a courtesy call on Friday, January 12, 2024, on Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene at the Manhyia Palace, during a security tour in Kumasi.

Some police, army will not participate in 2024 elections – Eagle Prophet

The founder and leader of God’s Crown Chapel, Eagle Prophet, has recently shared his vision for the 2024 general elections during an interview on Top Radio.

Eagle Prophet predicted a significant upheaval within the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces leading up to the 2024 polls. He foresaw a mass exodus of officers from both security services, with many choosing not to participate in the election.

In describing his vision, Eagle Prophet recounted, “I saw that a police car and a military vehicle were in one compound, and there was water oozing out from the ground, and there was water also from the heavens. The water entered the two cars, and all the people who were in these cars got down, and the water swept the car away.”

“As the policemen were coming out of their cars, they were all removing their uniforms and throwing them in the water, and they were all walking away naked. I asked that spirit of God what this meant, and that was when I saw a lot of the ballot boxes in the water being dragged away, as the police were walking off with their hands raised.”

Eagle Prophet conveyed the message he received from the spirit of God, stating, “A lot of military and police people would not vote this year. The voter turnout of their session is going to be very poor. There is going to be a very strong mass resignation in the military and the police.”

He further described seeing eagles lifting the two vehicles onto a mountaintop, where a policeman and a soldier blew horns to assemble a new set of officers. Eagle Prophet emphasized the need for prayers to avert this vision and urged President Akufo-Addo to address the situation with the people.

Police in Australia thwart an alleged rapper murder plot

The police in Australia have accused two men of planning to harm four members of the rap group OneFour.

The two men, known as Brandon Maseuli and Yousef Rima, are part of a criminal group that started in Lebanon and operates internationally.

The police said the group accepts jobs to do dangerous things like killing people and taking others.

Maseuli, 26, and Rima, 20, were arrested in Sydney on Thursday and now have to deal with a number of charges.

They did things like planning to kill someone, taking someone away, leading a group of criminals, and doing illegal things with drugs and stealing.

Officials have requested permission to arrest a 22-year-old man who they think is in another country.

The police said that Maseuli and Rima planned to kill four important men in Sydney for someone else.

Four members of the drill rap group OneFour have been named as the targets. Their names are Jerome “J Emz” Misa, Pio “YP” Misa, Spencer “Spenny” Magalogo and Dahcell “Celly” Ramos. It’s not clear why they didn’t go after the fifth member, Salec “Lekks” Su’a.

The OneFour members were targeted because they had a problem with another group. This other group may have hired a criminal gang in Sydney to hurt the rappers. The police told the Sydney Morning Herald about this.

The police found out about the suspected plan while looking into the Sydney group that Maseuli and Rima belong to. They also say that it was connected to many kidnappings, including one involving a large amount of cocaine.

Both people accused of a crime went to court in Liverpool on Thursday. They were not allowed to leave jail until their trial.

OneFour, a popular rap group from Australia, has had many encounters with the police. Their songs often have sad and aggressive words, which the police say can make people want to act violently.

They had to stop a big trip around the country in 2019 because the police were worried about safety.

Prophecy communication is not your mandate – Pastor tells IGP

The Resident Pastor of Christ Bible Ministry International, Rev. Ofori Jacob, has dismissed the concerns raised by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare, regarding the communication of prophecies by religious leaders as the year comes to a close.

In an effort to curb the trend of some religious leaders, particularly prophets, instilling fear in Ghanaians through prophecies, the Police issued a reminder this week about the law on the publication of false news, urging compliance from the general public, especially the religious community.

While acknowledging the right to practice faith and freedom of speech, the Police emphasized that these rights should be exercised with respect for the rights and freedoms of others and for the public interest.

“The Police would like to remind the public that while we have the right to practice our faith and freedom of speech as guaranteed by our constitution and democratic values, we want to reiterate that the enjoyment of these rights are subject to respect for the rights and freedoms of others and for the public interest.

“As we have come to consider December 27th as Prophecy Communication Compliance Day, the Ghana Police Service is once again urging religious communities to practice their faith within the legal framework. In the spirit of the season, we wish everyone Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year,” the Police statement said.

In response, Rev. Ofori Jacob, in an interview with GHOne News, asserted that the Inspector-General of Police does not hold the mandate to regulate spiritual affairs in Ghana.

He highlighted that there are existing regulations that guide the conduct of the body of Christ within the national framework.

According to Rev. Ofori Jacob, the IGP aims to bring order and sanity into the system. However, he emphasized that in matters concerning the church, the ultimate authority is the Lord Jesus Christ, who directs the course of action.

While acknowledging the need for regulation and streamlining in the church, he reiterated that the IGP is not the regulator of spiritual affairs in the country.

“He is an enforcer of law and when it comes to spirituality, he has not been given that mandate in Ghana. There are regulations that bring the body of Christ to where the nation as it were will want us to be. The IGP just wants to bring, as they say, sanity into the system.

“But mind you, when it comes to the church, the Lord Jesus Christ is the Head and he directs what must be done. Of course, we are in a generation that when people begin to see the world as it was coming at the church so strong, it is good. We are trying to regulate and streamline things, however, the IGP is not the regulator of spiritual affairs.

A clash between the police and residents in the Mamprugu Moaduri district of the North East Region on Tuesday, December 26, has left ten individuals injured.

The incident unfolded when a young man, accused of stealing a motorbike, sought refuge in a nearby house to avoid potential harm from an angered mob.

Eyewitnesses described the situation escalating as locals gathered to apprehend the suspect, with tensions rising when the police intervened to prevent a lynching.

In response to the agitated mob, law enforcement officers fired warning shots, prompting the crowd to retaliate by throwing stones.

The chaotic scene unfolded in the market, resulting in injuries sustained by ten civilians who are currently undergoing medical treatment.

Additionally, six individuals were taken to the Walewale Government Hospital for further care.

Confirming the incident, Abu Adams, the district chief executive for the area, explained, “What I know is that there was a stolen [bike], and the youth mobilized to attack that person. In the process, somebody called the police to intervene, and by the time the police arrived, the youth too didn’t take it easy.”

Adams emphasized the importance of police prioritizing protection in such situations. “Irrespective of the situation, they have to prioritize protection. So, in an attempt to protect, the youth turned to attack the police.”

Acknowledging that the police were also targeted during the intervention, Adams mentioned, “I am yet to pick the correct details of the matter. So, the police were also attacked at that place, so they had to find a way out, and they started giving warning shots, and I believe some of these warning shots hit some people”.

Assembly member Adam Abdulai corroborated the incident, adding to the confirmation of the clash between local residents and the police.

Currently, the suspect is in police custody, and calm has been restored to the Loagri community, according to the police.

You must arrest Mustapha Gbande for inciting violence – Nana B tells Police

The National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has urged for the immediate apprehension of Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande.

This call comes in response to Mr Gbande allegedly endorsing the idea of party members carrying weapons to polling stations during the 2024 elections.

Nana B emphasized the perceived threat to the nation’s security posed by Mr Gbande’s statements.

Condemning the suggestion that party supporters should be armed with guns and cutlasses at polling stations, Nana B expressed concerns that such actions could lead to chaos and disrupt the electoral process.

In an interview with Okay FM, Nana B remarked, “If Yammin and Mustapha are men, they should go to the polling stations with guns and cutlasses, and let’s see what would happen. They can’t do anything. Even Yammin is a coward; he has been running away whenever there is a little chaos in the Ashanti region,” he said in an interview with Okay FM.

He continued, questioning the rationale behind encouraging people to bring weapons to polling stations, expressing concern over potential disruptions and chaos.

Nana B asserted, “Mustapha Gbande must be arrested ASAP. I will personally petition the police. Why would you carry guns to polling stations; he needs to be arrested to serve as a deterrent. I haven’t seen the invitation letter, though, but he (Mustapha) must be arrested.”

Our society is free of needless panic, fear due to legal measures against ‘doom prophecies’ – Dampare

The police have noted that the legislation against the dissemination of doom prophecies has effectively safeguarded the rights and freedoms of individuals typically impacted by such predictions.

Additionally, the police emphasize that this legal measure has contributed to fostering a society devoid of unwarranted panic, fear, and alarm.

In a bid to regulate the prevalence of alarming prophecies, particularly from certain religious leaders, the police have issued a reminder to the general public, especially the religious community, regarding the law on the publication of false news. They urge continuous compliance with this law.

Expressing gratitude to faith-based groups and individuals for their adherence to the law, particularly in the communication of prophecies, the police encourage the public to remain patriotic and abide by the law to uphold the prevailing state of law, order, and security in the country.

“We urge the general public especially faith-based groups and individuals to continue to be patriotic and abide by the law, to ensure that the prevailing state of law, order and security in our beloved country is maintained. The Police will like to remind the public that while we have the right to practice our faith and freedom of speech as guaranteed by our constitution and democratic values, we want to reiterate that the enjoyment of these rights are subject to respect for the rights and freedoms of others and for the public interest.

“As we have come to consider December 27th as Prophecy Communication Compliance Day, the Ghana Police Service is once again urging religious communities to practice their faith within the legal framework. In the spirit of the season, we wish everyone Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year,” the statement said.

The police underline that while individuals have the right to practice their faith and enjoy freedom of speech, these rights are subject to respect for the rights and freedoms of others and for the public interest.

Designating December 27th as Prophecy Communication Compliance Day, the Ghana Police Service urges religious communities to practice their faith within the legal framework.

In the spirit of the season, the police wish everyone Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.

Since the issuance of this directive in 2021, prophets have adjusted their approach to delivering prophecies.

For instance, Prophet Nigel Gaisie delivered his prophecies for 2021 in a manner that adhered to the police directive.

He emphasized that those were the only prophecies he had for the year and respected the directive against publishing death prophecies.

“I read it somewhere that you have to bring material evidence of the prophecy. Who has ever dreamt and has material evidence of your dream? The greater component of prophecy is a dream. What they are saying doesn’t wash but for me, we will have a way.

“We will cross, I will prophesy in all confidence, there will not be any shadow of doubt that, I will speak the mind of God. Personally, I am not one of the cowards, I have been called by God, I have an assignment and whoever is coming after the church is making a big mistake,” he told TV3 in an interview.

Despite initial defiance, some prophets, like Rev. Owusu Bempah, expressed dissatisfaction with the directive.

He cautioned against enforcing laws on prophets and their activities, arguing that prophecy will outlive the current era. Mr, Dampare, you came to meet prophecy and prophecy will outlive your era. I have no issue with you but don’t bring your issues to prophets. If someone commits an illegality deal with him or her but don’t touch the prophets,” he said.

“I’m pleading with you, don’t touch pastors, preachers, prophets and anything Christians alone. Leave Christians alone. Muslims also prophesy. You work for the government and will be paid by the government so leave me alone to focus on my work because my reward is in heaven.”

Other prophets are gearing up to deliver their forecasts for 2024 as the end of 2023 approaches.

“We urge the general public especially faith-based groups and individuals to continue to be patriotic and abide by the law, to ensure that the prevailing state of law, order and security in our beloved country is maintained.”

“The Police will like to remind the public that while we have the right to practice our faith and freedom of speech as guaranteed by our constitution and democratic values, we want to reiterate that the enjoyment of these rights are subject to respect for the rights and freedoms of others and for the public interest,” the Service added.

Police investigating NDC’s Mustapha Gbande over inciteful political message

The Ghana Police Service is currently investigating the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Mustapha Gbande, for making inciteful comments ahead of the 2024 general elections.

Mr Mustafa Gbande has asked Ghanaians to arm themselves with guns and machetes when they go to vote in the 2024 general elections.

He made these remarks on Okay FM’s ‘Ade Akye Abia’ programme, where he said that he had advised the NDC leadership to prepare in advance for the NPP’s anticipated alleged misdoings.

He said that this was the only way to ensure free and fair elections and to prevent the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) from intimidating and harassing the voters.

“They think the way to go is violence, so I’ve told our leaders that if possible, let’s prepare twice the NPP and wait for them, when you are going to the polling station, put a cutlass in your pocket, that way nobody will misbehave towards you. If we do, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will not be able to misbehave toward us,” he said.

On December 21, the Police in a Facebook post noted that they “have commenced investigations into the matter in line with the laws and democratic values of the country.”

Mr Gbande’s statement has sparked a lot of reactions and criticisms from the public and the political parties, who have condemned his call for violence and lawlessness.

Meanwhile, the Police has noted that it will continue to work with other sister security agencies diligently and patriotically to maintain the peace and security in the country “which has made Ghana a beacon of hope on the continent and beyond.”

“We wish to assure the public that under our watch no one will be allowed to undermine the peace, security, law and order in our beloved country,” the statement added.

Nigeria: Osun police arrest 2 ritualists with female body parts

In a disturbing incident, the Osun police command has apprehended two individuals involved in ritualistic activities, accompanied by the discovery of female body parts in their possession.

The shocking confession made by the suspects has sparked widespread public attention and discussions.

According to a senior police officer’s statement, the incident unfolded when a distress call was received from a hotel where the suspects were lodging.

The hotel management reported that they heard a girl scream, and subsequent silence raised concerns.

Sensing trouble, the management requested the suspects to return to the room for verification, as the girl they arrived with had not left.

Despite the suspects’ attempt to escape, the vigilant hotel management secured the premises and detained them.

Upon entering the room, a horrifying scene awaited them – a pool of blood and body parts removed from the lifeless female victim, who had been concealed in a bag in an attempt to escape.

The swift response of the police force led to the emergency arrest of the ritualists, shedding light on the gruesome details of the crime.

As the police delved deeper into their investigation, the arrested individuals were identified as Ayodeji Saheed and Tunde Obadimeji. In a startling confession, the duo admitted that their recent arrest was not their first criminal act and claimed responsibility for over 70 murders.

Their modus operandi involved harvesting female body parts, and they disclosed a disturbing connection with an individual named Abefe Sadiq, who allegedly paid them for each severed body part.

Authorities proceeded to inquire about the methods employed by the culprits to procure their victims.

“Getting the girls was so easy, we lure them with money and fancy things. Girls of this days are easily lured with those things.”

It is not your mandate to provide Police motorbikes – Kwabena Donkor tells ECG

Former Minister of Power, Dr Kwabena Donkor, has strongly criticized the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for donating 200 motorbikes to the Ghana Police Service.

The Ghana Police Service received 200 motorbikes from ECG on December 11, 2023, as part of the company’s initiative to enhance police operations nationwide.

The Member of Parliament for Pru East expressed his disapproval of the donation, considering ECG’s substantial indebtedness to Independent Power Producers. Dr. Kwabena Donkor described the gesture as a display of irresponsibility on the part of ECG.

In addressing journalists, Dr. Kwabena Donkor called for an investigation by the Ministers of Energy and State Enterprises, emphasizing the need for appropriate action to be taken in response to the controversial act.

“I read with shock on Tuesday that the Electricity Company of Ghana had donated 200 motorbikes to the Ghana Police Service. Ordinarily, any such donation would have attracted my approval. But with this particular one, ECG has no business taking over the responsibility of the state to provide logistics for the Ghana Police. ECG is in debt for billions of cedis. Indeed, 2 weeks ago, the Minister of Finance had to intervene to stop Sonon Asorgli from shutting down because of ECG’s indebtedness to IPPs. For an entity that cannot pay its indebtedness, they have no business buying motors for the Ghana Police. It is the height of irresponsibility on the Management of ECG to donate motorbikes to the Ghana Police when they cannot pay their debt. I call on the Ministers of Energy and State Enterprises to call the ECG management to book.”

Police in Ecuador detain suspected gang leader of Los Lobos

Police in Ecuador say they have arrested an alleged leader of Los Lobos, a powerful criminal organisation specialised in drug trafficking.

The man, named only as Jaime S. C, was armed and carrying a large sum of money when police stopped his luxury car in the port city of Puerto Bolívar. Gunmen believed to belong to his gang opened fire as the officers transferred Jaime S. C to police headquarters.

One policeman was injured in the shooting. Soldiers deployed to guard the police HQ where the suspect was locked up were later also fired upon.

In a statement, police said Jaime S. C was carrying $13,5000 (£11,000) whose provenance “he could not explain. ” Los Lobos (The Wolves) is said to have 8,000 members and has become one of the Andean country’s most powerful criminal organizations.

Many of the gang’s members are in prison, but the gang continues to operate behind bars and has been accused of instigating some of the bloodiest prison riots in Ecuador.

The gang is also believed to be affiliated with Mexico’s Jalisco New Generation (CJNG) cartel, which smuggles cocaine from Colombia through Ecuador’s port cities to the United States and Europe.

Ecuador is suffering a wave of violence that has caused the murder rate to quadruple between 2018 and 2022. Daniel Noboa, who was sworn in as the country’s new president on Thursday, has promised to tackle drug trafficking and break the stranglehold the gangs have on the country.

On his first full day in office, he repealed a policy that allowed for the possession of small amounts of drugs, arguing that it had encouraged micro-trafficking in schools and “created an entire generation of drug-addicted children”.

  • Dublin riot: More arrests as authorities review CCTV

Dublin riot: More arrests as authorities review CCTV

Irish politicians have been informed that additional arrests of those connected to the incident in Dublin on Thursday are expected as police continue to go through 6,000 hours of CCTV footage.

After a knife attack outside a school injured three kids and a school care assistant, there was unrest.

In the chaos, stores were plundered and cars were set on fire.

The most riot police in Irish history, according to Justice Minister Helen McEntee, were sent in to quell the rioting.

She reportedly informed her fellow ministers on Friday night that Irish police were watching hours of CCTV and would undoubtedly make further arrests.

She had earlier defended the actions of the police following remarks made by Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald, who expressed her lack of trust in Ms. McEntee and Irish police chief Drew Harris.

Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar, or Taoiseach, stated at a speech on Friday that the disturbance involved roughly 500 individuals.

Claiming to have “brought shame” upon Ireland, he pledged to enact new laws in a matter of weeks to hold those responsible accountable.

A “lunatic, hooligan faction driven by a far-right ideology” was the cause of the unrest, according to Mr. Harris.

34 people were taken into custody by police after businesses were robbed and cars were set on fire. A large number of those detained are scheduled to appear in court on Friday to face charges including possession of stolen goods and carrying firearms.

On Friday night, there was a noticeable police presence in Dublin’s city centre. Following many altercations, cops made several arrests on O’Connell Street.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has sent two water cannon to the Irish police, in case there are any more protests.

What transpired during the stabbings in Dublin?

Attackers targeted a five-year-old child and a school employee who “used her body as a shield” on Thursday after 13:40 local time. The young girl’s status at the hospital is still critical.

In the heart of the city, outside Gaelscoil Choláiste Mhuire, the children’s school, was the scene of the attack.

It is believed that a man stabbed a bunch of young children who were lining up.

The attacker was fought off by a number of bystanders, one of which being a Brazilian food delivery man who used his bike helmet as a weapon.

Police have identified a man in his late 40s who was also critically hurt as a subject of interest. They declared that, in regards to the attack, they are not searching for anybody else.

The school released a statement in which it expressed its “deep shock and sadness” at the event and said that its thoughts were with the injured students and creche provider.

What was the course of the Dublin riot?

Shortly after the knife attack, rioters set fire to eleven police cars, severely damaging thirteen stores, and looting additional ones during their altercations with riot police.

Over three hours of nonstop violence resulted in the destruction of three buses, a tram, and multiple injuries to police personnel.

According to Garda Commissioner Drew Harris, “hateful assumptions” based on material that went viral online following the stabbings caused the “extraordinary outbreak of violence”.

It is acknowledged that erroneous allegations that the assailant was a foreign national were included in that.

The guy accused of carrying out the attack is an Irish citizen who has been residing in the nation for 20 years, according to sources who spoke with the media.

The garda commissioner declared, “These are scenes that we have not seen in decades.”

The violence on Thursday night, according to Irish President Michael D. Higgins, “deserves condemnation by all those who believe in the rule of law and democracy”.
