    Tensions erupted in Loagri, Yagaba/Kubori Constituency, as residents clashed with police over the custody of an alleged motorbike thief.

    Fueled by frustration over increasing motorbike thefts, particularly on market days, the clash resulted in gunshots and ten reported injuries.

    The incident unfolded when a suspect, already on the wanted list, attempted to steal a motorbike at the bustling market. Caught in the act, the alleged thief sought refuge in a nearby house, drawing the attention of angry residents eager for justice.

    As residents demanded access to the house where the suspect sought refuge, the owner locked the door. Police, patrolling the market due to frequent theft problems, arrived to secure the stolen motorbike. However, they faced resistance from the crowd fearing the suspect’s escape.

    The situation escalated as residents and police clashed, with confusion over the police’s actions. Residents questioned why the suspect wasn’t immediately apprehended, leading to growing frustration. To disperse the crowd, police fired warning shots, and some residents responded by throwing stones, resulting in injuries to ten people.

    The situation in Loagri remains tense, with injured individuals receiving medical attention, and an investigation into the incident is underway. The alleged motorbike thief is now in police custody.

    Police in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region have successfully apprehended two suspected robbers, one of whom is notorious as ‘Demon Town,’ after a viral video showed them issuing threats to stab anyone resisting their attempts to snatch belongings.

    In the video, one of the suspects is heard menacingly stating, “Have you seen the bag behind me? We are going to gather and deposit you in there. For pistol for real, if you don’t leave it, we are stabbing you. Demon, won’t you tell them?” Following a brief intervention by his cutlass-wielding ally, he continues, “Look at my dreadlocks, look at it, do you need to be told? Aputuogya gangsters, this is who we are, we will stab the eye of anyone who resists.”

    Acting on a tip-off, personnel from the Kuntenase District Police Patrol team raided a house in Aputuogya, where the suspects were believed to be hiding.

    Suspect Ibrahim Mohammed, 23 years old, featured prominently in the viral video, was handed over to the police by the town folks who had earlier raided the house. During interrogation, he claimed to hail from Adansi Fomena Kusa but currently resides in Madina, Accra. He stated that he was invited to the Bosomtwe District about a month ago by the other suspect in the video, identified as Kwame Sarpong, a distant family member.

    The unemployed accomplice, who had been on the run, has also been apprehended by the police. The owner of the house where the suspects were found will undergo interrogation.

    Suspect Ibrahim Mohammed is expected to face court proceedings as the police continue their investigation into the threatening incident captured in the viral video.

    A robber who attempted to conceal his face with a cardboard box was captured on CCTV snatching phones valued at thousands of pounds.

    He botched his escape, however, by lifting the box to gain a better view of the loot and showing his face to the cameras.

    On Saturday at around 4 am, the unusual incident took place at the Miami Irepair store.

    According to NBC, the thief initially made off with 19 iPhones and $8,000 cash, totaling a value of $15,000.

    Having collected the footage, the storeโ€™s owner, Jeremias Berganza, found the thief hours later drinking at a liquor store and called the police, who arrested the man.

    In the footage, the thief smashes the top of a glass cabinet before he starts rifling through the phones and stashing them in his bag.

    Due to the position of the CCTV camera, it was not possible to make out his face until for a moment when he lifted up the box to get a better look at the phones he was taking.

    Berganza said he shared images from the theft with people working in the shopping centre where the store is and asked for people to look out for the thief.

    Just a few hours later Berganza found the thief drinking at a liquor store and called the police, who arrested the man.

    Authorities have not released the suspectโ€™s name or more information about the robbery.

  • Specialised intel operation by police leads to arrest of two armed robbers

    The police in the Ashanti Region on Thursday, October 13 arrested two armed robbers after a specialised intelligence operation.

    One other robber attempted to fire at the police but he was overpowered by returned fire, leaving him dead upon arrival at the hospital.

    According to a statement issued by the Director of Public Affairs at the Ghana Police Service, Grace Ansah-Akrofi,ย  the deceased, whose name was given as Issaka Muniru, was wanted after jumping bail at the court.

    He had led a gang to rob a pastor of his two gold watches and mobile phones on May 26, 2021.

    โ€œThe deceased was granted bail by the court but he jumped the bail and a bench warrant was therefore issued for his arrest,โ€ the police statement said.

    ย โ€œHis accomplices are still attending trial at the court.โ€

    In another robbery instance, he was arrested among four โ€œbut he managed to escapeโ€.

    The three suspects have since been remanded into prison custody.

    The police commended the Ashanti Regional Police Command, especially personnel of the Regional Intelligence and Operations teams, for leading the operation.

    โ€œWe would like to assure the public that we will continue to carry out our constitutional mandate of protecting life and property and maintaining law and order even at the peril of our lives.โ€

  • Gunshot wound exposes runaway armed robber

    A 27-year-old suspected armed robber has been arrested by the Effiduase District Police in Ashanti region after being on the run.

    The suspect, identified as Darlington Worchie is said to have sustained gunshot wound in an attempt to rob a resident of Effiduase.

    According to the Effiduase Police, during the robbery, the victim shot the suspected robber in his right arm.

    But during an interrogation, Darlington Worchie told the police that he had a misunderstanding with someone at a smoking base and in the process, the person stabbed him with an unknown object.

    He was later sent to the St. Joseph Hospital for examination where the Medical Officer stated that the wound is suspected to be a gun wound with penetration

    Upon thorough interrogations, the suspect later admitted that at he and two unknown accomplices attempt to rob someone but unfortunately he was shot by the person.

    That same night, he went to Appiadu Police station and rather reported that he was attacked by armed men in a bid to rob him but he struggled with them and he was shot where he was issued with Police medical form which enabled him to attend the said Hospital.

    Later the suspect led police to the location where he was arrested and a small polythene bag was retrieved which contains a black T-shirt that he wore on the date of the incident with the suspected gunshot penetration and a singlet and boxer shorts socked with blood.

  • Ghanas biggest car snatching syndicate busted with 7 stolen cars

    A car snatching syndicate that can pass for the biggest in the history of the country has been arrested in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, MyNewsGh.com has confirmed.

    Police indicated following numerous complaints from residents about their vehicles being snatched at gunpoint by miscreants mostly robbers, they devised a strategy to nib such criminal activities in the bud.

    As a result, a patrol team detailed for this special operation on the dawn of Monday, February 22, 2021, chanced on a black and yellow Kia Picanto taxi cab with registration number AW 319 -20 driven by 38-year-old Yaw Sarkodie of house number P23 Pankrono-Kumasi with two other occupants on board.

    A search was conducted in the vehicle and a sponge was found in the pocket of one of the suspects.

    The team became suspicious as that has been the modus operandi of the car snatchers in the vicinity who usually tie their victims with either nylon rope or sponge to strangulate them before taking the vehicle.

    The suspects were arrested and interrogated and asked to show where they live at Kwapra as they claimed that was the area they stay.

    They later admitted that they came from Sunyani and hired the taxi cab from Asafo market to Kronum Kwapra ostensibly to rob the car from the driver.

    The suspects confessed that they are behind the numerous car snatching cases at Kwapra and other areas

    The Suame Divisional taskforce proceeded to Meduma with the suspects and retrieved four (4) snatched taxi cabs and upon further interrogation the suspects informed police that other vehicles were in Sunyani in the bono region. Police proceeded to the area and retrieved three (3) more taxis.

  • Police arrest notorious robber, rapist

    The Upper East Regional Command on Saturday, February 8, 2020 arrested Pius Ayomah Anundiabil alleged to be involved in robbery, rape and murder in some parts of the country at Fumbisi in the Sandema district.

    The suspect who claims to be 21 years and a native of Fumbisi in the Upper East region has been on the police wanted list for the past two years for alleged rape and robbery cases in Accra.

    He was also charged with murder in Koforidua in the Eastern region.

    The suspect is currently in custody at the Upper East regional police command as plans are underway to transport him to Accra for further investigations.

    The Upper East regional police command has extended its sincere gratitude to the residents of the Fumbisi for their cooperation and assistance leading to the maintenance of law and order in the entire Sandema district.

    The Police says anyone especially residence of Upper East region along the borders of the neighbouring countries must be vigilant and report any suspicious characters leading to the prevention or arrest of criminals to the nearest police stations or contact police on emergency numbers 18555/191 or Upper East police information room on 0299204666/0299203694 for police response.
