  • Ghana Police need reforms, too many zombies in uniform Sam George

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has said the Ghana Police Service is in dire need of serious reform in the country.

According to him, the police service has reduced the institution to a “ragtag army of hoodlums” instead of professionals.

Adding that there are too many “zombies” in the police uniform especially those in command.

In a Facebook post, he said “I have always maintained that the Ghana Police Service is in dire need of serious reforms.

“Too many ‘zombies’ in uniform reducing a rather professional Police Service into a ragtag army of hoodlums.”

He further added that “Serious institutional changes and retraining of men needed especially for those in Command positions. The head is indeed meant for thinking, not just wearing helmets and saying Yes Sa!”

His post is in reaction to a clash between the Minority in parliament and Police Service at the Electoral Commission Headquarters.

A number of about 50 MPs who were clad in black attire were initially stopped at the Ridge roundabout but managed to cross the barricade while they were being pushed by the police.

They were again stopped at the entrance of the Electoral Commission office. Some members of parliament were even pushed to the ground by these police personnel.

Some MPs who described the situation as unfortunate said they were only there to present a petition to the Electoral Commission adding that it was not a demonstration but a peaceful walk to the EC office.

  • Election 2020: Don’t dare me again – Sam George warns NPP PC

The incumbent Member of Parliament for the Ningo-Prampram Constituency, Samuel Nartey George has sent a strong word of caution to his main opponent in the 2020 Parliamentary race, Alex Martey not to ever dare him again.

Alex Martey had predicted that he will beat the incumbent NDC MP by an overwhelming vote on December 7, only for him to lose miserably.

Sam George polled 48,601 votes against Alex Martey who secured 19,911 votes in the 2020 Parliamentary race.

Sam George who was confident of his chances of winning the elections, had promised to defeat his contender by a 20,000 margin and he did just that as he earned 28,690 votes in margin.

However, speaking after the polls, Sam George advised Alex Martey not to ever dare him again. He added that a lion like himself can never be terrified by a hyena like Alex Martey.

“In coming into this elections he said he was the hyena and that the hyena was coming to chase out the lion. If he had DSTV and watched National Geographic he would know the hyena could not stand up to the lion, Sam George said.

He added “He promised me 20,000 votes but he did not get 20,000 votes. But I have no words for him but to tell him to cut his coat according to his size. Next time when you want to pick a fight, know who you going to fight.”

    4th of July

Exactly 13 years ago, I came back home to Ghana to ‘start life’. A young man with God, ambition, drive, determination and only GHS1.50p in my pocket.

The journey has been arduous many times with absolutely no hope in sight but my ultimate belief in God and myself have kept me going. Many days I walked from Lomnava to Osu in search of a job.

Till my breakthrough job through Uncle Dennis at UNDP got me my first IT gig with that Agency and a whole world of consulting with several UN Agencies and the World Bank opened up to me. Politics happened to me. A wife and 3 kids to boot have all happened in what seems a blur to me as I reminisce on 13 years of God’s inexplicable grace.

My journey so far has been phenomenal thanks to the grace of God and the many men and women He has brought along my path. What scares me is that this is just the beginning of what God has in store for me. I reaffirm my utmost belief in His plans and purpose for my life.

I am a product of #UncommonGrace. My heart burst with joy at the goodness the LORD has surrounded me with. Keep faith in Him and He would perfect His will for you in His own time. ????????????

    Working with E. T. Mensah

According to him, he offered himself to work with Hon. E. T. Mensah for 3 years without collecting a salary as a Personal Assistant(PA).

“I worked with Hon. E. T. Mensah for 3 years without collecting a salary . . . he didn’t need a PA but I offered myself to work for him because I wanted to learn . . . he didn’t ask me to come for employment . . . so why would he?”

” . . I did everything from washing plates to cleaning shoes to carrying bags to driving him, I did all . . . and I still see him as my father,” he told Adakabre Frimpong Manso.

He said though E.T. Mensah had earlier decided not to run for the Ningo Prampram seat again, things turned around due to so many factors.

“I personally booked an appointment at his office to inform him about my intention and also seek his blessings to contest the parliamentary seat in 2015 . . . he told me his time was not up as he was having a second thought about it,” he said.

He said he sought refuge and encouragement from his wife to have the courage to contest the then MP.

During a one-on-one interview on ‘Me Man Nti’ programme on Neat FM, he spoke of betrayal, unfair treatment and among other things.

    Mahama’s ‘betrayal’

He also narrated how former President John Mahama ‘turned his back on him’ during the time.

“I was very hurt, very very hurt and I have had the opportunity to discuss this issue with President John Dramani Mahama post everything . . . ”

“He said he had too much respect for E. T. Mensah . . . he told me he was not going to be the one to fuel my ambition to unseat Hon. E. T. Mensah . . . I am saying it with all conviction and the truth that President Mahama did not give me one pesewa, one pesewa, he didn’t give to me. I was very pained,” he said.

“It was one of the few times if not the only time President Mahama had turned men down,” he added.

    Selling my house

He narrated how he had to sell his house to fund the campaign.

” . . my wife was 8 months pregnant, I had to sell my house to fund that campaign because nobody was going to give me money, nobody believed that I will win that election . . . my wife told me if you do this and we lose don’t come home . . . I was a month away from my primaries,” he said.

  • I’ll file contempt action in court against the EC for defying the injunction – Sam George

MP for Ningo Prampram, Sam George is considering a contempt action against the Electoral Commission (EC) over their alleged City Escape Hotel workshop.

The EC is alleged to have held its training workshop despite a court injunction on their activities.

Sam George on Friday secured an injunction, restraining the Electoral Commission from holding the workshop in his constituency.

The ex-parte injunction, granted by the Tema High Court took effect Friday.

“It is hereby ordered that the respondent and all persons claiming through the respondent (EC) refrain from holding the workshop or conference scheduled to take place at the Escape Hotel Prampram from the 24th of April, 2020,” Justice of the High Court, Eugene Nyante Nyadu ruled.

But the EC allegedly went ahead with their workshop.

Sam George in reaction stormed the venue with other members of the NDC. The heavy security presence did not allow them to have access to the hotel premises.

He accused the President of endorsing the actions of the EC.

“The Electoral Commission and I say this without equivocation is doing what they are doing because they have the approval and support of the Jubilee House. President Akufo-Addo is endorsing the illegality and irresponsibility of the EC…”

According to him, he is in talks with his lawyers to consider a contempt action against the EC.

“That is an option available to us, I am having that conversation with my lawyers…”

  • World Radio day: Reverse the shutdown of Radio stations now – Sam George

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram is calling for an immediate reversal of the actions government took last year, to shutdown radio stations across the country.

According to him, the performance of the media under the Akufo-Addo-led government in the past three years has been compromised.

He therefore called on Ghanaians to rise against these actions by government for a better Ghana.

Speaking at the back of World Radio Day, Sam George said, “My wish today would be to see the reversal of the shutdown of radio stations across the country, an expedited investigation and prosecution of the killers of Ahmed Suale, an end to state intimidation and assault of journalists and a level playing field for all shades of opinion in the country be they political, religious or ethnic.”

“The World Press Freedom Index and the abysmal performance of Ghana over the past three years in the rankings is the clearest indication that the media space and its handling by government is beset with a growing canker that needs to be curtailed expeditiously. In the words of a leading clergyman in the Republic, there appears to be a sinister force of the prowl. The earlier we all collectively rise against it, the better it would be for us all.” He added

The National Communications Authority in May, 2019, shut down Radio Gold 90.5 FM and Radio XYZ 93.1 FM both based in Accra. Officials of the NCA stormed the premises of the stations with armed security personnel while they were on-air and ordered their immediate closure.
