Police attempted to arrest me over false publication, not blackmail – Showboy

Ghanaian rapper Showboy has clarified that police’s attempt to arrest him from his residence was due to  ‘publication of false news’  claims and not blackmail.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. UTC on January 30, Showboy was heard yelling, “Leave my house,” challenging the officers’ authority and asking to see proper documents before cooperating.

Responding to reports about his arrest, Showboy said, “It is never true that they came to arrest me for blackmail.

Seven police officers came to arrest me for ‘publication of false news.’ My lawyer asked them what news I published that was false, and they could not provide an answer. I told them to go to a judge; if the judge believes their claim, then a warrant would be issued. No warrant, no arrest.”

Subsequent videos showed him remaining defiant in a car, while the police had not issued an official statement.

The incident has however sparked online debate, with critics questioning the police action and raising concerns about freedom of expression and due process in Ghana.

During an interview on The Delay Show with Deloris Frimpong Manso on November 23, 2024, Showboy admitted that his desire for riches was so strong that he might have turned to armed robbery if he hadn’t found a legitimate path to success.

Reflecting on his past, Showboy shared that he was expelled from Junior High School after being caught stealing from his classmates, a mistake he says shaped his determination to pursue financial success through better means.

“In JHS 2, I was sacked from school in John Teye because I stole from someone. I used to steal things like money, sardines, and others. It all started when I used to steal from my grandmother, but she didn’t punish or talk me out of it. If God hadn’t blessed me with money, I would have become an armed robber because I am passionate about making money by all means.

When I came back from prison to Ghana, the first thing I saw at the airport was young boys driving Range Rover,” he said.

Showboy also shared his struggles with mental health, revealing how his dog, Karishika, has played a vital role in his recovery journey.

“This dog is especially for mental health purposes It is closer to me because I don’t want loneliness. I have been lonely for a long time. I usually hear voices when I am sleeping.

If not for the weed I smoke, which calms me down, sometimes I feel like stabbing someone’s stomach. Human beings irritate me, so the dog plays a huge role in my life,” he added.

Showboy has revealed plans to go back to school after compromising his dream of becoming a lawyer to street life.

“I want to go back to school. Let me try and see if I can go back to GIMPA,” he stated on 3Music TV monitored by MyNewsGh.

According to him, he made seven ones in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and enrolled at Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School.

He travelled to further his education at Montgomery College in the United States having in mind he dreams of becoming a lawyer.

Unfortunately, in the United States, while earning income from multiple jobs, negative influences pushed him into criminal activities, ultimately leading to a prison sentence that ended his academic progression.

Nonetheless, he is determined to correct his course.

Showboy says he has tasked his management to retrieve his index number from Presec as part of his intent to further his education.

Musician and entertainer Showboy has revealed plans to go back to school after compromising his dream of becoming a lawyer to street life.

Meanwhile, Gospel musician Reverend Christiana Twene, popularly known as Obaapa Christi, has clearly stated that she will not further her education due to mockery.

The “Meti Ase” hit singer did not specify the level she would start from, but she feels she is too old to enroll in a school and take on the identity of a student again.

Speaking to Andy Dosty on Hitz FM, the woman of God indicated that, “I am not shy to go back to school. But I am quite old and I will be made a mockery of, even though I will also make a mockery of them. However, I am trying to learn as much as I can.”

Despite her reluctance, she is ready to employ other options to equip herself with any knowledge she lacks.

“I am not going to enroll in school and officially become a student. But I can hire someone to teach me privately,” she said.

Though she may struggle to sing an English song, Obaapa Christi sees nothing strange about it because she believes it’s the same way a white person struggles to sing a Twi song.

The gospel musician said she strives to give her all in worship, as her struggle with fluent English cannot be a hindrance to her ministry progress.

Obaapa Christi disclosed in an interview last year that she deliberately chose not to take her Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results after completing the exam.

The artist explained that she had a feeling that she wouldn’t pass all the subjects and, as a result, opted not to return to the school to retrieve her results.

Speaking with Roselyn Felli on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning, Obaapa Christy shared insights into her educational background, revealing her unconventional decision regarding the BECE results.

“I reached JHS, but it’s not that I stopped; I wrote BECE, but I didn’t go for the results,” she said.

    “Did you pass”? Roselyn asked.

“I didn’t even go for it to see whether I passed or not because I foresaw that I wouldn’t pass,” the singer replied.

The “Hyebre Sesafo” and “W’asue Me,” hitmaker opened up about growing up underprivileged.

She told Andy Dosty on Hitz FM, July 31, that she was not raised by parents who were well-to-do, as she had to sell ice water on the streets to survive.

“I’m a poor man’s child. I’m a shoemaker’s daughter and I used to be a hawker. My mother used to sell thrift clothes, I move from one village to another to sell them. I even sold ice water and ice-kenkey.”

“When I close from school, I used to peddle oranges’ and I’ve sold a lot of things. We used to live in a single room” she said.

She added, “My parents gave birth to nine children, and I was the second born. I’ve really suffered but I’m not a lazy woman. I worked so hard to get to where I am today.”

Gospel artist Celestine Donkor recently opened up about her upbringing during the ‘Grass to Grace’ edition of Just Being Us.

She recounted the challenges of growing up in a compound house alongside 11 neighbors, where her parents raised a total of 15 children in a single hall and chamber.

In a heartfelt tribute to her mother, Celestine shared how her mom worked tirelessly to provide for the family, ensuring that all her children were well-fed despite their limited resources.

She fondly recalled a particular pot that her mother used for cooking, which her siblings affectionately dubbed the “miracle pot.”

“It was not easy for parents like mine to take care of 15 siblings. I remember how we all had to eat from one pot. There is a particular pot my mom cooked in. At a point, we all agreed it was a miracle pot because when she had 7 kids, the pot was full and enough for everyone. We were 15, and the same pot was full and was enough for everyone, so we called it a miracle pot.”

Celestine also discussed the financial struggles her family faced, noting that her mother engaged in various forms of petty trading to support them.

“My mom did everything to make sure we were fed, like selling everything. I do not know what my mom hasn’t sold in this life.”

Reflecting on her childhood memories, she described the experience of sleeping on a couch in their cramped living situation.

“I grew up in a compound house. It was like 12 different families in one compound at Flat Top, Abeka. I remember very well, it was a chamber and hall, so I grew up sleeping on a couch. I thought the couch was actually the bed. It was strange for me, later in life, to have my own bed.”

The gospel musician also recounted her upbringing in a crowded compound house where she lived alongside 11 neighbors while her parents raised a total of 15 children.

Reflecting on the challenges of her childhood, she praised her mother for her unwavering dedication to ensuring that her family was well-fed despite their difficult circumstances.

She recalled how her siblings and she were amazed at how one particular pot seemed to have miraculous qualities.

“It was not easy for parents like mine to take care of 15 siblings. I remember how we all had to eat from one pot. There is a particular pot my mom cooked in. At a point, we all agreed it was a miracle pot because when she had 7 kids, the pot was full and enough for everyone. We were 15, and the same pot was full and was enough for everyone, so we called it a miracle pot.” she shared.

Celestine also highlighted the financial struggles her family faced, which compelled her mother to take on various small trading ventures to support the household.

“My mom did everything to make sure we were fed, like selling everything. I do not know what my mom hasn’t sold in this life.”

Nostalgically, she recalled the crowded living conditions in their home, where sleeping arrangements were quite limited.

“I grew up in a compound house. It was like 12 different families in one compound at Flat Top, Abeka. I remember very well, it was a chamber and hall, so I grew up sleeping on a couch. I thought the couch was the bed. It was strange for me, later in life, to have my own bed.”

Renowned musician King Paluta shared insights into his upbringing during an interview on The Delay Show aired on March 23, 2024.

He was raised by his mother for the nineteen years (19) in the absence of his father.

He humorously likened his family dynamics to biblical figures, jestingly referring to himself as ‘Jesus.’

Drawing parallels, he highlighted his mother’s name, Mary, and his father’s name, Joseph, alongside his birth out of wedlock.

“I didn’t see my father often,” he said. “I think I was raised by a single mother. Before I was born, my parents weren’t married. When I came into the world, my dad was away. He was in Ghana, but we had no idea of his whereabouts.”

The musician recalled his first encounter with his father when he visited their home, revealing that he was approximately nineteen years old at the time.

“It wasn’t until I was 19 or 20 years old that I met him,” said King Paluta. “He came to my mother, and she discussed marriage with him. My father was the only man my mother had.”

He recounted that throughout this period, his mother consciously chose not to pursue relationships with other men. However, he remained uncertain about her specific reasons, speculating that “her interest in men dwindled after the separation, leading her to prioritize her children.”

King Paluta shared that his father passed away in 2022, but before his death, there had been a reconciliation between his parents.

Reflecting on his musical journey, King Paluta disclosed that he penned his debut song in 2004, demonstrating his dedication to music by investing his school fees in studio sessions.

Today, he has emerged as a respected musician, with his tracks amassing significant views. His notable works include ‘Aha Akye,’ featuring Samini, ‘Sika Aba Fie,’ ‘YaHitte,’ and ‘Aseda.’

OLAFM is the only media house I’ll accept for interviews – Showboy

Ghanaian musician Sam Sarfo, better known as Showboy, has stated that he will not grant interviews with any media house apart of OLAFM.

He acknowledges the media house as a support system to his music career, along with a few others he did not mention.

“I will always go where I’m cherished the most. I don’t want to be invited to any platform unless it’s OLAFM or a few others that genuinely support me,” he stated.

He has also made it known that his music does not thrive on promotions by media houses like Adom Tv, YFM, and Okay FM.

“I run my own media house. I promote my music myself whenever I release something new, and I mind my business,” he said.

The musician shared a sobering message with the youth, urging them not to be misled by the flashy lifestyle he portrays on social media, particularly on Snapchat.

In an emotional interview on Neat FM, Showboy confessed to the poor life choices he made and the deep regret he feels for the path he took, despite what may appear glamorous online.

“They use me to advise kids at home. Don’t be like Showboy; it won’t help you because I didn’t live a good life. It is God who has blessed me and given me a second chance. Do not follow me and think that my lifestyle is beautiful; I don’t sleep at night,” he said candidly.

The former AMG Business co-founder admitted that although he presents a flashy image online, the reality behind the scenes is far from the picture he paints for his followers.

He stressed that the social media image many admire is a façade and a misleading representation of his life.

“Music and this lifestyle are nothing, and do not watch me wrongly and think I am happy. If you watch me on Snapchat, you know I don’t even sleep. This is not what I want, but I don’t have a choice,” Showboy revealed.

Reflecting on his past, Showboy explained how he had the opportunity to build a better future while living in America, but chose the wrong path. He regretted not listening to his mother’s advice to pursue education, which ultimately led him to make choices that landed him in prison.

“I had the chance to live in America and do better for myself. My mom told me to go to school, but I didn’t listen and I chose the criminal side of life, a fast life that took me to prison,” he recalled.

Though he is now trying to rebuild his life through music, Showboy admitted that his future feels uncertain. The pressures of his current life have led him to a dark place, with the rapper sharing his struggles with mental health.

“Now I am here trying to do music, and if the music doesn’t go well, it’s suicide I will be going to commit,” he confessed, opening up about the mental toll his situation has taken on him.

Showboy also revealed his desire to completely change his career, appearance, and life choices. He expressed regret over his signature dreadlocks and even spoke of a dream to return to school and become a lawyer.

“Left to me alone, I would have shaved my entire hair. This dreadlocks I don’t even like, and if I have a new job, I would shave my entire hair,” he said. “I want to go back to school, I want to be a lawyer. If you are watching me, I don’t want to be like this. I want to be in a suit and tie in parliament. I want to do something better.”

Through this candid revelation, Showboy hopes to steer young people away from making the same mistakes he made, emphasizing the importance of making wise life choices and not following the false narratives seen on social media.

The incident, which occurred on May 2, 2025, saw the two engaging in a physical altercation that left Showboy stabbed and Kaytee partially injured after Showboy bit off a portion of his ear. The scuffle, which went viral on social media, happened after the two crossed paths during an event in Oda, where Showboy had been billed to perform.

But if someone offends you, don’t take the law into your own hands,” he added.

‘You all should let him be!’ – Showboy descends on Sarkodie’s critics after gari soakings post

Ghanaian socialite Samuel Safo, also known as Showboy, has expressed support for rapper Sarkodie following his recent “Back to Gari Soakings” comment on social media.

In a video posted online, Showboy stated that the “No Sir” hitmaker has every right to share his opinions.

He added that Sarkodie is free to criticize any political party if he feels dissatisfied with their performance.

“Sarkodie is not the only NPP supporter, I am also an NPP guy, so if you want to confront someone, then come and confront all of us… So if he responded to Gari Soakings, so what? Isn’t he a rapper? You all should learn to think.

“If it’s attention you desire, learn how to get it. You can’t be threatening Sarkodie because if something happens to him, the law will take action, and if something happens to him, you will be arrested,” he said.

Showboy further urged people to stop criticising the rapper over a harmless statement.

“I have seen a video circulating on social media where someone is insulting and threatening the rapper. Brother, the laws in the country are in place, and you shouldn’t mess with him because if something happens to him, then you will realize how many people support him.

The same NDC you are opposing will deny any involvement because the political party does not condone violence,” he added.

    Background

Sarkodie has openly criticized the leadership of former President John Dramani Mahama in the past.

Between 2013 and 2016, the rapper used his music to express his concerns, with his 2014 song “Inflation” standing out as a clear message of dissatisfaction with Mahama’s administration.

However, during President Akufo-Addo’s tenure, Sarkodie remained silent, even though his fans urged him to speak out.

Showboy gives details of how his relationship with Criss Waddle ended

Ghanaian socialite and artist Samuel Safo, popularly known as Showboy, has provided a detailed account of how his relationship with musician Criss Waddle ended on rocks.

Speaking on the ‘Delay Show’ with Deloris Frimpong Manso on November 23, 2024, Showboy revealed that the rift stemmed from a car deal in which Waddle allegedly took a percentage of the proceeds without informing him. He described the incident as a betrayal, which ultimately strained their relationship.

“Criss Waddle cheated me in business. I used to sell cars, and one of our boys asked me to buy a car for him.

After shipping the car to Ghana, Criss Waddle went behind my back and took a percentage of the money without telling me,” Showboy said.

He added that he was particularly upset because everything related to the deal, including the license to operate, was his own.

“I got pissed because it was all my money. Even the license I was using to operate was mine. So I didn’t understand why he did that, and that’s what caused our fallout. Up until now, I still don’t understand why he did that.”

Despite the fallout, Showboy acknowledged the support Criss Waddle had given him in the past, especially during a time when he was facing jail time.

“Oh, Kwaku (Criss Waddle) helped me, and I can’t deny that. There was a time when I wasn’t working, and he paid my rent and bills. He even helped me when I wanted to smoke. But what got me angry was that he didn’t make full payment when we had to pay my lawyer,” Showboy revealed.

He voiced his disappointment, feeling that their relationship lacked fairness and mutual effort.

“He was the reason I was arrested, and on the streets, he’s like my family, so he needed to help me. That’s how it works on the streets. I had to fund him when he had no money. Now that he has money, he should fund me because that’s how the street works. I’m also one of the reasons he’s making all that money.”

    Background

Criss Waddle and Showboy shared a strong friendship and professional partnership that spanned over eight years.

Their camaraderie was evident on social media, particularly in 2016, during the peak of their AMG music group’s success. That year, Waddle gained significant attention with the release of his hit track “Bie Gya,” featuring Stonebwoy.

Unfortunately, their relationship eventually deteriorated due to numerous unresolved conflicts, leading to the end of their friendship.

I’m not responsible for Junior US death, I stabbed him out of self-defense – Showboy gives full details

Musician Sam Safo, better known as Showboy, has shared his detailed account of the infamous altercation with Junior US that led to his imprisonment.

Refuting claims that he provoked, fought, and was responsible for Junior US’s death, Showboy explained that it was Junior US who initiated the confrontation in his home.

Describing their initial meeting and the events leading to their dispute, Showboy revealed his immediate dislike for Junior US, whom he met through Criss Waddle.

Despite Junior US’s persistent attempts to befriend him, Showboy tried to keep his distance.

On the day of the altercation, Showboy recounted how he tried to eject Junior US from his apartment, which escalated into a violent confrontation.

In a conversation with Fiifi Pratt on Kingdom FM, Showboy detailed how Junior US attacked him with a knife, forcing him to defend himself.

“He wasn’t my friend. We met at a nightclub through Criss Waddle. I opposed bringing him into my circle. When Junior was at my place, I asked him to leave, which angered him. He accused me of disrespect and attacked me. Junior was very strong and attacked me with a knife. I had to defend myself, and there’s video evidence of the incident. After he attacked me, I grabbed scissors and stabbed him in the ribs before escaping.

“Later, his friend Bright Kankam told me Junior’s condition was critical and asked me to help take him to a hospital. When I returned, it was a setup for revenge. Junior attacked me again, and I barely escaped.

“Showboy continued, “Junior was hospitalized, and as his condition worsened, the authorities got involved. They accused me of stabbing Junior in a parking lot after an argument about cannabis. My criminal history didn’t help. Initially facing a 40-year sentence, a video showing my self-defense reduced my sentence to 15 years, later adjusted to 6 years.”

Showboy insists he had no role in Junior US’s death.

“After my sentencing, Junior US died two weeks later. He was robbed and killed by women he invited to his apartment. This gave the impression I orchestrated a vendetta against him.”

You’re ungrateful Criss Waddle; it’s over between us – Showboy

The ongoing turmoil within the AMG Business camp shows no signs of peace, with Showboy launching a scathing attack on his once-close friend Criss Waddle.

Deported entertainer Showboy, also known as Sam Safo, has long been recognized as a trusted ally of Criss Waddle.

Just days ago, Criss Waddle publicly criticised Showboy in a self-recorded video, accusing him of causing rifts within the camp.

The root of the conflict appears to be Criss Waddle’s decision to prioritise his former protege Medikal over his longtime companion Showboy, a move that has left Showboy feeling betrayed and resentful.

Showboy has declared his intention to sever all ties with Criss Waddle, citing a lack of appreciation for his loyalty and efforts.

He revealed that he had gone to great lengths to assist Criss Waddle, including using his connections to help Waddle evade legal trouble with the FBI and facilitating his return to Ghana.

This latest development underscores the deepening rift within the AMG Business circle and raises questions about the future of the once-united camp.

I love money, peace of mind; apologize to Medikal – Criss Waddle to Showboy

The CEO of AMG, Criss Kweku Waddle, has launched a verbal assault on his associate Showboy regarding ongoing problems within the AMG camp.

Waddle revealed that he had privately addressed Showboy’s behavior for an extended period, but his warnings went unheeded.

Waddle further stated that whenever Showboy would publicly criticise individuals on social media, he and others would reprimand him privately.

Despite Showboy’s subsequent apologies and promises to change, he would quickly revert to his previous behaviour.

In a Snapchat post, Criss Waddle called on Showboy to set aside his ego and apologise to Medikal, Shatta Wale, and David Deuces.

He emphasised the importance of humility and warned against the detrimental effects of unchecked pride, urging Showboy to do the right thing.

The former co-founder of the AMG group was convicted and sentenced to six years in March 2019 for his involvement in a physical altercation that resulted in the stabbing of the U.S.-based Ghanaian musician, Junior US.
