    GBC celebrates Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s 25th anniversary in new documentary

    On April 26, 1999, Nana Barima Kwaku Duah ascended to the throne as Otumfuo Osei Tutu II after his inauguration ceremony, completing the rituals to become the Asantehene.

    Now at 73, on April 26, 2024, Osei Tutu II celebrates 25 years as the revered leader of the Golden Stool.

    Throughout his reign, the Asantehene has engaged in numerous interviews with both local and international media, addressing a wide range of topics.

    His life story has been extensively documented in various forms, including magazines, books, and documentaries.

    To commemorate his Silver Jubilee, the state broadcaster, GBC, aired a special video titled “Otumfuo Osei Tutu II: Celebrating 25 Years of Local and Global Impact,” highlighting his profound influence both within Ghana and on the global stage.

    The video features testimonials from a diverse array of high-profile figures, including politicians, diplomats, technocrats, royals, and personal acquaintances, all speaking eloquently about the Asantehene’s enduring legacy and his significant contributions to society, both at home and abroad.

    Otumfuo’s Silver Jubilee to be crowned with star-studded concert on May 10 

    As part of the Silver Jubilee celebration commemorating the 25th anniversary of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s enstoolment as the 16th Asantehene, Kumasi will host a concert on May 10, 2024.

    The event will feature a lineup of Kumasi’s prominent musical stars, bringing together the region’s talented musicians for a memorable performance.

    “A mega musical concert will be held in Kumasi. We will see our great Asante musicians perform,” a brochure of the line-up states. 

    The festivities, which commenced on February 6, 2024, with a re-enactment of the Sagrenti War, are set to conclude on November 24, 2024.

    Among the array of activities planned for this year-long celebration are a religious feast for traditional priests in Asanteman, the 75th birthday celebration of Otumfuo, a Grand Silver Jubilee Durbar, a clean-up exercise, a feast for other ethnic groups residing in Asanteman, a non-denominational thanksgiving service, and a public lecture commemorating the 100th anniversary of Nana Agyeman Prempeh I’s return from Seychelles Island.

    The Asante Kingdom, renowned for its rich culture and tradition, boasts an abundance of creative talents, including some of the country’s greatest musicians. Notable figures such as Agya Koo Nimo, Akwasi Ampofo Adjei, Amakye Dede, Okyeame Kwame, Quophi Okyeame, Kwaku Gyasi, King Paluta, Diana Asamoah, Diana Hamilton, Flowking Stone, and Amerado hail from Asanteman.

    Although the specific lineup for the concert is yet to be announced, the celebration of Otumfuo’s 25th anniversary is expected to showcase the vibrant Asante culture and attract tourists from across the globe.
