  • I’m claiming the love of Ghanaians even if they don’t love me back – Moliy

I’m claiming the love of Ghanaians even if they don’t love me back – Moliy

Ghanaian singer and global sensation Moliy says she is choosing to embrace the love of Ghanaians, regardless of whether it is fully returned.

Speaking about her relationship with her home country, the singer described it as complex but deeply rooted in affection and commitment, stressing that she remains firmly connected to Ghana no matter how it is perceived.

She explained that her bond with Ghanaians goes beyond approval or validation, adding that she has made a personal decision to stand with them through every phase of her journey.

“Me and Ghana, we have a very interesting relationship. I love them and hopefully they love me back. Whether or not they choose to love me, I am claiming their love, you know what I’m saying. It’s do or die, we’re in this together,” Moliy said.

Burna Boy has also openly expressed his affection for Ghana, revealing that he owns a house in the country and visits as frequently as he can.

Speaking in a recent interview on The Breakfast Club radio show in New York City, the Grammy-winning Nigerian artiste shared his admiration for Ghana while reacting to one of the hosts’ decision to acquire property there.

During the conversation, Charlamagne tha God disclosed that he recently purchased a beachfront home in Ghana. When Burna Boy asked if the property was located at Labadi, Charlamagne clarified that it is situated in East Legon.

Burna Boy praised the move, describing it as a wise decision and reiterating his personal connection to the country.

“Bro that’s the best decision you have ever made,” the singer said.

“Trust me, trust me, Ghana is a beautiful place. You’re in a beautiful place man… Cos for me personally that’s my go to place for refuge,” he added.

Away from their love for Ghana, Moliy chided netizens for habitually body-shaming her

In a post shared on July 18, she sarcastically quizzed such netizens if they had been able to pay their utility.

“Hope all of you spending your day talking about my body again got rent and due bills ready. We’re in the middle of the month, just a reminder, much love.”

She has expressed her contentment with remaining independent of any record label.

Moliy cited record labels’ restraints on her creativity, issues of trust, as well as hearsay about artists and the challenges that come with being signed to a label.

Her remarks were in response to a feature of discussion about her career as an independent artiste since her debut in 2020.

For the sake of creative freedom Moliy says she doesn’t want to be a part of any record label.

“Yeah. I’ve always been kind of hesitant to be a label artist because I’ve just heard so many stories.I don’t just wanna be a name on a list. Music is very personal to me.

“So, I think if I did get locked in with a label, I hope it’s something that could be a real, long-lasting, organic relationship.

“The most freeing part is just getting to do what I want creatively without someone telling me what to do. I don’t like being told what to do,” she shared during an interview on July 7 with Revolt TV.

She said, “I always feel like the people I work with, I want to trust them. I want it to feel organic”.

Though she has seen significant success with her songs hitting millions on boards in the UK and other streaming platforms, her independent journey hasn’t been without challenges.

She struggled with getting her music distributed effectively without the backing of a record label; she had to navigate distribution hurdles on her own.

“I realized at some point, I was actively seeking [distribution]. I hadn’t released music for a whole year in 2024, and me and my manager were trying to get a [distribution deal] so I could put out music.

The conversations were sounding positive, but nothing was actually happening. I remember thinking, I still wanna move. I don’t wanna be stagnant,’” she said.

It was at this point that she realised that “also, if you’re not pushing yourself, if you’re not putting your foot on the gas, no one is gonna do it for you. That’s what I love the most”

Meanwhile, her journey as an independent artiste has proven quite successful with the awards she’s won and success of her releases over the years.

In June 2022, she was named Spotify EQUAL Africa Ambassador. She also featured on MTV Base, 3Music TV, and Revolt TV and was later nominated for Ghana Music Awards and honored as BET Amplified Artist of the Month.

There are no genuine friendships in the entertainment industry – Efia Odo

Socialite and singer Efia Odo recently shared her thoughts on the nature of relationships within the entertainment industry, revealing that genuine friendships are rare.

According to her, most connections between industry professionals are primarily based on business and mutual benefits rather than true friendship.

While she acknowledged that it’s possible to form real bonds with colleagues, she emphasized that such instances are uncommon, as the industry is largely driven by what each person can offer the other.

“I feel like this industry, there’s no friendship in this industry. It’s more about acquaintances, business associates, It’s not really friendship. Maybe one or two people but in reality, it’s always been like what you can do for me and what I can do for you,” Efia Odo said in a report on 3news.com.

Efia also reflected on her own experiences, noting that her attempts to build friendships in the industry have taught her valuable lessons.

“What’s the point in faking it? For me, I have people who I am close to and cool with, and after that, we go our separate ways…I think I have also learnt a lot about trying to be friends with people in this industry, but it’s good.”

She explained that while she maintains cordial relationships with some individuals, these connections often don’t extend beyond professional interactions.

In addition to discussing industry relationships, Efia Odo opened up about her love life.

Despite facing numerous disappointments, she remains hopeful about finding love but has become more cautious in her approach.

She mentioned that she used to be very open and vulnerable in relationships but has since learned to protect her heart, taking her time to assess anyone who expresses interest in her.

Efia affirmed that she is still committed to love but is now approaching it more carefully.

“It’s not like I have given up on love; right now I am taking my time. Before, I used to wear my heart on my sleeves; now I wear it in my jeans. When I love, it’s overwhelming for the wrong person, so I want to really take my time to scope out any guy who says they are interested in me. My name is Efia Odo; I am love, and I give out love. I can’t give up on love, so I am taking it slow.”

Becoming a mother completed me but destroyed my carreer – Singer Lily Allen jokingly says

British pop singer Lily Allen jokingly stated that while her children “complete” her, they also “totally ruined” her career during an interview on the Radio Times podcast released on Tuesday.

When asked if she had to reconsider her career strategy after becoming a mother, Allen replied, “I never really have a strategy when it comes to career, but yes, my children ruined my career.”

She humorously added, “I mean I love them and they complete me, but in terms of pop stardom, totally ruined it.”

The singer expressed annoyance at the notion that one can “have it all,” emphasizing that it’s not always possible to balance career and family.

She acknowledged that some people prioritize their careers over their children, but she made the decision to focus on her daughters, stemming from her own childhood experiences of having “quite absent” parents.

Allen’s parents, actor Keith Allen and film producer Alison Owen, were both in the entertainment industry. Reflecting on her upbringing, Allen chose to step back from her career to ensure her children didn’t experience the same absence she did.

She feels this decision has resulted in raising well-rounded individuals.

Currently residing in New York City with her daughters and husband, “Stranger Things” star David Harbour, whom she married in 2020, Allen has seen significant success in her music career, particularly in the UK, with multiple chart-topping hits and a Grammy Award nomination for her debut album “Alright Still.”

‘What’s love got to do with it’ singer Tina Turner, dies aged 83

The legendary rock and soul singer, Tina Turner, has died at the age of 83, according to several media outlets.

With her back-to-back hits in the 1960s and 1970s, the musician overcame adversity and abuse to become one of the most popular performers of all time.

Turner died Tuesday, after a long illness in her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland, according to her manager. She became a Swiss citizen a decade ago, a Press Enterprise report noted.

One of her most popular tracks was ‘What’s love got to do with it,’ is a song written by Graham Lyle and Terry Britten, and recorded by Tina Turner for her fifth studio album, Private Dancer (1984).

Capitol Records released it as a single from Private Dancer in May 1984 and became Turner’s biggest-selling single.

What Press Enterprise report added about Tina Turner

Few stars traveled so far — she was born Anna Mae Bullock in a segregated Tennessee hospital and spent her latter years on a 260,000 square foot estate on Lake Zurich — and overcame so much.

Physically battered, emotionally devastated and financially ruined by her 20-year relationship with Ike Turner, she became a superstar on her own in her 40s, at a time when most of her peers were on their way down, and remained a top concert draw for years after.https://www.youtube.com/embed/oGpFcHTxjZs

Her trademarks were her growling contralto, her bold smile and strong cheekbones, her palette of wigs and the muscular, quick-stepping legs she did not shy from showing off.

She sold more than 150 million records worldwide, won 12 Grammys, was voted along with Ike into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 (and on her own in 2021) and was honored at the Kennedy Center in 2005, with Beyoncé and Oprah Winfrey among those praising her.

Her life became the basis for a film, a Broadway musical and an HBO documentary in 2021 that she called her public farewell.

  • Beyonce Knowles and Adidas terminate their partnership

Beyonce Knowles and Adidas terminate their partnership

Adidas, the German multinational sportswear corporation, and Beyonce Knowles, a global music and entertainment icon, have mutually agreed to terminate their partnership due to creative differences between Adidas and Beyonce’s Ivy Park.

The end of Beyonce’s partnership with Adidas marks the conclusion of a productive collaboration that began in 2018, during which they worked together to revive the Ivy Park activewear line and develop new footwear and apparel for the brand.

However, the decision to end the partnership followed reports that Adidas suffered a loss of $10 million in 2022 as a result of its collaboration with Ivy Park.

In 2016, Beyonce launched Ivy Park as a 50-50 joint venture with Sir Philip Green, the proprietor of Topshop. Nevertheless, the partnership ceased in 2018, and Beyonce assumed complete ownership of Ivy Park, paving the way for her lucrative deal with Adidas.

In the past few years, Ivy Park has faced difficulties meeting its sales projections in the market. Although Adidas estimated $250 million in sales for Ivy Park in 2022, the brand only generated about $40 million in sales, a decrease from $93 million in the preceding year.

The recent decline in Ivy Park’s revenue was not only an unfavorable outcome for Adidas, which had set lofty revenue projections for the brand, but also a letdown for financial experts who had predicted that the collaboration would break new ground, surpassing all Adidas’ prior ventures in sales and popularity, and solidifying its position as a top activewear brand.

The unexpected decline in revenue is particularly baffling, given the immense popularity and influence of Beyonce, whose massive following and star power generated significant buzz around the Ivy Park and Adidas collaboration.

Despite this setback, both Ivy Park and Adidas expressed optimism about their potential for success, with plans to implement new marketing and promotional strategies.

In an effort to revive the activewear line and overcome the operational challenges of meeting sales targets, Adidas executives explored various marketing tactics inspired by the successful strategies used for Kanye West’s Yeezy brand. However, a difference of opinion arose between Adidas and Beyonce’s team regarding the optimal approach for promoting the brand.

Lisa Marie, also a singer, was rushed to hospital earlier on Thursday. US media say she suffered cardiac arrest.

She was found unresponsive at her home in Calabasas, California, sources told US outlet TMZ.

“She was the most passionate, strong and loving woman I have ever known,” Priscilla Presley said in a statement.

  • Nigerian Anti-Corruption Agency finds 20,000 ghost names tagged “D’banj’s List”

Prominent Nigerian singer Oladapo Oyebanji, often known as D’banj, will continue to be detained by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), following the recent finding of 20,000 ghost names inserted into the N-Power Program.

The anti-graft agency detained D’banj on Tuesday over fraud allegations involving the N-Power Programme.

On June 8, 2016, President Muhammadu Buhari launched the programme to address the issues of youth unemployment and empowerment, and also promote social development.

SaharaReporters earlier reported how top government officials introduced over 70,000 ghost workers into the N-Power Programme and fraudulently diverted billions of naira into their pockets.

“70,000 names were infused into N-Power by officials of the Buhari regime in the last four years.

“The fake list costs Nigeria N2.1 billion per year while original N-Power candidates are left unpaid,” a source had told the newspaper.

In June 2021, SaharaReporters reported that 14,000 beneficiaries of the N-Power programme were owed for five months.

N-Power is a youth empowerment scheme sponsored by the Nigerian Government under the Social Investment Program (SIP).

Other programmes under the scheme include Home Grown School Feeding, Tradermoni, Marketmoni and the Conditional Cash Transfer in the 36 states of the country.

SaharaReporters gathered that since the social investment programme of the government was moved to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, the minister, Sadiya Farouq, had been making attempts to stop some of the programmes under the scheme.

Aside from announcing that beneficiaries would be laid off, she had also refused to release funds for the school feeding programme in some states.

A source at the humanitarian ministry on Wednesday night told SaharaReporters that top government officials in President Buhari’s government have been using cronies to siphon funds under the social intervention programmes.

A source had confided in SaharaReporters that ICPC would release D’banj on Wednesday night after failing to successfully link the musician to the fraudulent activities in the N-Power Programme.

“D’banj will be released tonight by the ICPC. The agency is unable to link him concretely with fraudulent activities in N-Power,” a top source in the agency had told SaharaReporters.

However, the source on Thursday said investigators discovered a fresh list containing over 20,000 ghost names, tagged “D’banj’s list.”

He said the names were allegedly used to divert over N600 million monthly for over two years by government officials in connivance with the Nigerian musician.

The source however added that D’banj refuted the allegation and denied any knowledge of the list.

“Like I told you yesterday, D’banj was to be released last night but our (ICPC) Director of OperationS wasn’t available. So, his lawyers were asked to come back today,” he said.

“But our investigators just discovered another 20,000 N-Power list, so he (D’banj) will remain in detention.

“Today when his lawyers arrived for his release, they were told about this fresh list containing 20,000 names. This list was being used to divert N600 million monthly from Nigeria in the last two years by Buhari government officials. The list containing 20,000 names has been bleeding Nigeria N600 million monthly over the last two years.

“It’s named the D-banj’s list. He actually denied the list when he was interrogated by our officials. That’s the reason he wasn’t released as planned.”

  • Taylor Swift ‘Eras’ tour ticket debacle explained

The “Anti-Hero” singer broke all kinds of records with the release of her latest album, Midnights. So you can imagine that ticket sales for her Eras tourher first since 2018would be big. We just didn’t predict it would go so awry during the pre-sale when an unprecedented number of fans with pre-sale codes flooded the site on Tuesday and bought up the tickets. As a result, the public ticket sales, which had been set for Friday, has been canceled with Ticketmaster, which is handling the sales, citing “insufficient remaining ticket inventory.”

So what happened? The pop superstar partnered with Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program, which allowed her superfans — aka the Swifties — to pre-register earlier in the month to receive a special code that allowed for early ticket sales on Nov. 15 — three days before they go on sale to the general public. The verification process also aims to identify real humans versus bots to weed out bulk buying and reselling.

However, there was a glitch — or, for the most die-hard — a catastrophe. Fans logged in on Tuesday and were hit with error messages or trapped in the queue for two hours. Other fans who planned to get tickets were sent to a wait list. The sale of West Coast tickets was also delayed for three hours to ease traffic to the site. Angry fans captured screenshots of the glitches and posted them to social media slamming Ticketmaster. Ticketmaster was trending, with even U.S. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez weighing in.

The ticket company, owned by Live Nation, posted that there was a “historically unprecedented demand” with millions showing up to buy tickets. The business later posted an entire explainer unpacking what went wrong. It was known the sale was going to be a big deal after 3.5 million people pre-registered, the largest Verified Fan registration in history. That led to Swift’s tour team, managed by AEG and The Messina Touring Group, to add more shows, doubling the dates and the tickets. Approximately 1.5 million people were invited to participate in the presale with the other 2 million on a waiting list. Those numbers were decided because Ticketmaster historically sees 40% of invited fans, with the specials codes, actually showing up and buying tickets, and most purchase 3 tickets on average.

When the pre-sale tickets became available on Tuesday, those with the codes went to the site and so did fans who didn’t have a code. On top of that, there was a “staggering number of bot attacks,” with those factors resulting in unprecedented traffic to the site, according to Ticketmaster. There were 3.5 billion — yes, billion! — system requests, which was four times more than the company ever experienced. In total, 2 million tickets were sold that day — the most tickets ever sold for an artist in a single day. The company claims that every ticket was sold to a buyer with the special code.

Blakk Rasta added: “I have nothing personal against Shatta Wale. He is a brother but if I need to tell him the truth, I will not mince words. Shatta Wale is loud and I’m also loud so we are alike. He speaks his mind on issues and that is exactly how I am.”

  • Queen of Country music Loretta Lynn dies aged 90

Loretta Lynn, whose songs of strength and independence made her a standard-bearer for women in country music, has died at the age of 90.

Known as the Queen of Country, her songs were rooted in real-life experience, most notably on the autobiographical Coal Miner‘s Daughter.

Other hits included Don’t Come Home A-Drinkin’, Honky Tonk Girl and the feminist anthem, The Pill.

Lynn’s family said she died on Tuesday at her home in Tennessee.

“Our precious mom, Loretta Lynn, passed away peacefully this morning, October 4th, in her sleep at home in her beloved ranch in Hurricane Mills,” the family said in a statement.

They asked for privacy as they grieve and said a memorial would be announced later.

The singer was born Loretta Webb in a one-room log cabin in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky in 1932. She was the second of eight children.

Just as she would later sing in Coal Miner’s Daughter, her family eked out a living during the Depression, with her father earning a “poor man’s dollar” by working all night in the coal mines, and all day in the fields “a-hoein’ corn”.

The family made its own entertainment – her mother played guitar, with her father accompanying on banjo – and she grew up on the songs of the Carter Family.

“I was singing when I was born, I think,” she told the Associated Press in 2016. “Daddy used to come out on the porch where I would be singing and rocking the babies to sleep.

“He’d say, ‘Loretta, shut that big mouth. People all over this holler can hear you.’ And I said, ‘Daddy, what difference does it make? They are all my cousins.’”

At the age of 15, she attended a “pie social” – where local girls would bake a pie, and men would bid to win both the food and a meeting with the cook.

Loretta’s pie, baked with salt instead of sugar, was won by Oliver Lynn, a 21-year-old solider, who swept her off her feet. A month later, they married and moved to Custer, Washington, where they raised four children.

Her husband, whom she called “Doo” or “Doolittle,” urged her to sing professionally and bought her a $17 (£14.80) Sears guitar, with which she started a band, Loretta and the Trailblazers, that also featured her brother Jay Lee Webb.

By 1960, she had signed a contract with Zero Records and released her debut single, I’m a Honky Tonk Girl.

The song was inspired by a woman Lynn befriended in Washington, whose husband had left her for another woman. Lynn said she wrote the song while leaning up against an old toilet in her house, the words pouring out of her in a 10-minute burst of inspiration.

She and her husband promoted the song relentlessly, driving to radio stations around the country to pester DJs into playing it, and sending out hundreds of free discs.
