Snoop Dogg breaks away from Spotify, takes music to Web3 platform

Snoop Dogg has once again reignited the conversation around streaming royalties, taking aim at Spotify for what he sees as unfair compensation for artists.

During a 2023 appearance on the Business Untitled podcast, the rap legend expressed frustration, revealing that despite accumulating a billion streams on the platform, his earnings amounted to less than $45,000.

“They just sent me some sht from Spotify, where I got a billion streams… That sht wasn’t even $45,000.”

Spotify quickly refuted his claim, arguing that such streaming figures typically generate millions for rights holders. A spokesperson for the company responded, saying, “It’s unfortunate to hear that Spotify’s payments didn’t make it through to Snoop… Hopefully, now that he owns Death Row Records, he’s seeing more of that money.”

This response hinted that the issue may stem from ownership and contractual agreements rather than Spotify’s direct payout structure. However, Snoop remains unconvinced and has made a decisive move to seek a fairer model for artists.

He has now partnered with Tune.FM, a blockchain-powered streaming platform designed to offer direct and transparent payments to musicians.

His latest single, Spaceship Party, was released exclusively on Tune.FM, signaling a break from conventional streaming services.

Snoop Dogg reportedly earns $500K daily for his appearance at Paris Olympics

Snoop Dogg is making waves at the Paris Olympics, and it’s not just for his star power.

Reports indicate that he’s pocketing a staggering $500,000 per day as a special correspondent for NBC and Peacock.

Henry McNamara, a Forbes 30-Under-30 honoree and partner at Great Oaks, revealed on X that an NBC executive disclosed Snoop’s impressive daily earnings, plus expenses, for his role in promoting the Games.

“From ‘Gin and Juice’ to millions at the Olympics, what a turn of events,” McNamara commented.

Sports business journalist Darren Rovell also weighed in, suggesting that a $10 million total earnings estimate for Snoop during the Olympics seemed plausible.

With the Games spanning 16 days, Snoop stands to earn up to $8 million, not including additional compensation for pre- and post-event activities.

Despite the buzz, Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus Jr., hasn’t addressed the reports directly.

Instead, he shared a video on Instagram featuring young rap prodigy Savannah McConneaughey, who humorously acknowledged the $500,000 but focused on her excitement for the day.

Snoop’s involvement in the Olympics has been substantial.

He performed at “A Celebration of Olympic Basketball,” organized by NBC Universal and the NBA, and carried the Olympic torch through Saint-Denis during the opening ceremony.

He was also seen engaging with Team USA athletes and participating in a fun skit with Michael Phelps.

Additionally, Snoop collaborated with Martha Stewart for NBC, visiting the Château de Versailles and partaking in the equestrian events, where they interacted with horses and enjoyed dressage.

Snoop has always been enthusiastic about the Olympics, emphasizing his dedication to making a significant impact as an NBC correspondent.

On Friday morning, he carried the Olympic torch ahead of the opening ceremony.

As one of the final torchbearers, Snoop Dogg took part in the relay in Saint-Denis, a suburb of Paris.

The Olympic flame, lit in Greece in April, has been making its way to Paris since then.

In a recent interview, Snoop Dogg expressed his gratitude to both the U.S. and France for this opportunity.

He said, “I consider this a prestigious honor and something I truly respect. I could have never imagined an opportunity like this. I’m committed to being on my best behavior and showing my athleticism. I’ll be able to breathe slowly, walk fast, and hold the torch with a smile, fully aware of the event’s significance.”

Snoop Dogg is in Paris to assist NBC in covering the Games, with the U.S. broadcaster aiming to boost ratings by incorporating pop culture into their coverage.

  • Snoop Dogg voices frustration over Grammy snub despite 16 nominations

Snoop Dogg voices frustration over Grammy snub despite 16 nominations

American rapper and actor Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr known professionally as Snoop Dogg has called out the Grammy Awards, expressing disappointment over his 16 nominations without a win.

The renowned rapper joins the likes of Travis Scott, Busta Rhymes, and Nicki Minaj, who have each received at least 10 nominations without securing an award.

Despite a prolific career, the 52-year-old artist is yet to receive the coveted Grammy recognition.

The Long Beach MC’s 16 nods include four for Best Rap Song (2003’s “Beautiful,” 2004’s “Drop It Like It’s Hot, 2007’s “Sexual Eruption,” and 2011’s “Young, Wild & Free) and another four for Best Rap Performance (1992’s “Nuthin’ But a G Thang,” 1993’s “Gin and Juice,” 1999’s “Still D.R.E.,” and 1999’s “The Next Episode”).

And yet, the Grammys have failed to honour the 52-year-old for his legendary career.

Snoop hopped on Instagram Monday morning to wordlessly call out the awards show, sharing a screenshot of an article by Business Insider listing him among the best artists without a win.

Snoop Dogg’s post came just hours after Jay-Z called out the Grammys while accepting the second annual Dr. Dre Global Impact Award.

Midway through the speech, Jay-Z pointed a finger at the Recording Academy for not giving Beyoncé a long-delayed Grammy Award for Album of the Year despite her being the most-decorated artist in Grammy history with 32 wins.

“I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than everyone and never won Album of the Year,” Jay-Z said about his wife of nearly 16 years. “So even by your own metrics that doesn’t work. Think about that. Most Grammys never won Album of the Year, that doesn’t work.”

I do not deserve stroke at age 24 – Snoop Dogg’s daughter laments

Cori Broadus, the daughter of rapper Snoop Dogg, has said she broke down in tears when doctors told her she had suffered a “severe stroke” aged 24.

Broadus shared her news with a picture of herself lying in a hospital bed on an Instagram story on Thursday, to her 657,000 followers.

She commented: “I had a severe stroke this AM. I started breaking down crying when they told me.

“I’m only 24. What did I do in my past to deserve all of this?”

Doctors sometimes refer to stroke as a heart attack for the brain.

It occurs when the blood supply to the brain is stopped.

Replying to friends who sent her well wishes on Instagram, Broadus posted: “I love you, I love you.”

Musician and entrepreneur Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr, also has two sons, Corde and Cordell, with his wife Shante.

The rapper shot to fame following the release of his 1993 hit debut album, Doggystyle – which was produced by Dr Dre.

It featured hits singles such as Gin & Juice, Doggy Dogg World, Murder Was The Case and Who Am I? (What’s My Name?).

He is also known for hits such as Sweat, Drop It Like It’s Hot and Signs – a collaboration with Justin Timberlake.

Snoop Dogg also has an acting career – his film credits include Training Day and 2004’s remake of Starsky & Hutch with Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson.

His daughter Cori is a singer in her own right who performs under the name CHOC. She has provided guest vocals to some of her father’s tracks and last year released the single 4am.

  • Snoop Dogg requests privacy after announcing quitting smoking

Snoop Dogg requests privacy after announcing quitting smoking

Renowned rapper Snoop Dogg, known for his extensive use of cannabis, has appealed for privacy following his announcement that he is quitting smoking.

The decision, which surprised many, came after discussions with family members. Snoop shared a serious selfie on Thursday night, emphasizing the importance of respecting his privacy during this significant change.

While some fans expressed concern over his unexpected decision, others offered encouragement and well wishes for his health.

Snoop’s public declaration aligns with recent comments he made about reducing his smoking and cannabis usage for the sake of his children and grandchildren.

“Being a grandfather has changed me in multiple ways,” the rap icon said while speaking to the publication.

“The main way is being concerned with how I live, how I move, the kind of people I’m associated with because I want to see my grandkids grow old.”

Snoop continued: “The only way I can do that is to take precautionary steps as far as how I move, who I hang out with, where I go out, my intake, what am I intaking?”

Following his announcement, Snoop Dogg, a father of four, has received an outpouring of support from his family. His son, Cordell Broadus, shared Snoop’s statement on Instagram, expressing his decision to give up smoking as well. Shante Broadus, Snoop’s wife of over 25 years, also shared the post on her story, reinforcing the family’s united front.

Snoop Dogg now joins a list of celebrities who initially endorsed marijuana but later decided to quit. In 2022, Lady Gaga proudly admitted to stopping smoking after extensively using weed during the creation of her album Chromatica.

“It was the most bizarre, beautiful thing that could have happened. This music actually healed me,” she said in an interview with Apple Music.

Miley Cyrus, once an advocate for the therapeutic benefits of weed, altered her stance after undergoing vocal cord surgery. Now prioritizing clarity for optimal performance and articulate discussions about her music.

Snoop Dogg, a familiar face in such announcements, declared his departure from marijuana use. In 2002, he famously vowed to quit cannabis permanently, only to relapse shortly thereafter.

By 2014, he admitted to smoking approximately 80 cannabis blunts daily but emphasized his reluctance to encourage his children to adopt the habit.

20 nominations, zero wins – Snoop Dogg calls attention to his lack of Grammy wins

Snoop Dogg is distressed over his lack of Grammy wins despite several nominations.

On Monday, one day after the 2023 edition of the Recording Academy’s annual ceremony, Snoop shared an Instagram post highlighting a list of fellow rap artists’ career wins, including Jay-Z (who has 24 Grammy trophies to his name) and Kendrick Lamar (who has 17).

“20 nominations. O wins,” Snoop wrote in the caption alongside a trio of emoji.

A number of fans and fellow artists subsequently hopped into the comments to express their disbelief, including Jamie Foxx.

“You deserve that [and] more my G!” Foxx said.

To be clear, the Recording Academy says that Snoop has received 16 nominations throughout his prolific run of releases. The most recent of these nominations was for Snoop’s involvement in Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly. At this Sunday’s ceremony, Kendrick took home the Best Rap Album award for his latest release, Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers.

This isn’t the first time Snoop has pointed out his lack of Grammys. Just last year, for example, he shared an IG update in which he blithely told that year’s nominees to “have fun” at the ceremony while noting his numerous winless nominations.

Ahead of this year’s broadcast, Snoop performed as part of the Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective event in honor of Dr. Dre. Others honored at the pre-Grammys party included Missy Elliott and Lil Wayne.

“Should I run Twitter?” Snoop tweeted. The poll, which was posted Sunday night, has since received nearly three million responses, with 81 percent of the Twitter users voting “Yes.”

Whether joking or not, Snoop has received far more backing than Musk, whose poll received over 17.5 million responses, with 57.5 percent of the votes calling for him to step down.

  • Snoop Dogg, Master P change name of their cereal brand after ‘Snoop Loopz’ failed to resonate with fans

Snoop Dogg and Master P have now revealed a new name for their cereal brand after the previous name ‘Snoop Loopz’ finale to resonate with consumers.

The veteran rapper and CEO jointly made an appearance to announce the rebrand, stating that the cereal will henceforth be known as “Snoop Cereal.”

Tha Doggfather and The Ice Cream Man can be seen inside a kitchen, seated at a table with three bowls and three packages of cereal on top, in a video posted on the No Limit Forever YouTube channel.

The two start off by discussing needing to change directions despite Snoop Loopz’s fame. They are both wearing sweatshirts with the words “Snoop Cereal” written in glittering font and including images of the brand’s cereal boxes.

“I just wanna say salute to all the fans out there,” Master P told the camera. “I know everybody have been saying Snoop Loopz, they thought it was over. The fans, the customers said they was with us to the end.”

He continued, adding that Snoop Cereal will be available on WIC, the nation’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children. “We’re taking this to WIC and [everything] ’cause we’re two WIC kids, grew up in the ghetto,” he says.

“And now coming from WIC to owning our own company is crazy. Y’all can do it, too.” The cultural icons then proceeded to taste-test each cereal, munching along as they described the taste and texture with each bite.

Three types of Snoop Cereal will be offered: Cinnamon Toasteez, Fruity Hoopz with marshmallows, and Frosted Drizzlers. P claims that by June 2023, the cereal would be sold across the country. The serial entrepreneur also revealed that Post, the company behind items like Fruity Pebbles, Golden Crisp, Honey Bunches of Oats, Waffle Crisp, and others, had joined with Snoop Cereal and Broadus Foods.

  • Snoop Dogg addresses claim he smokes equivalent of 75-100 blunts a day

Snoop Dogg took to Instagram Sunday to hopefully set the record straight, once and for all, about the amount of weed he smokes in a day.

“Bitch said I smoke… bitch, this is all in a day’s work. Stop lying,” Snoop said. “Fuck I’ma smoke all that weed in one day. What am I, a fuckin’ machine? Bitch, this is the roaches. See… roaches.”

A post shared by snoopdogg (@snoopdogg)

Snoop decided to present visual evidence two days after denying the claim that he smokes “roughly” 75 to 150 blunts a day, writing, “The bitch is conning u man.”

According to the New York Post, Renegade Piranha, who identifies herself as Snoop’s personal blunt roller, claimed he smokes half a pound of weed every day during her appearance on the Australian radio show The Kyle and Jackie O Show.

“I calculate it at over 450,000,” she added.

Back in 2013, Snoop revealed on Twitter that he smoked 81 blunts per day, leading many to believe that her estimate seemed about right.

Snoop spoke about his PBR, or professional blunt roller, during a 2019 appearance on The Howard Stern Show with Seth Rogen. “That’s his J-O-B—his occupation,” Snoop reassured Stern. “On his resume, it says, ‘What do you do? I’m a blunt roller. P-B-R, professional blunt roller.”

“He knows how to gauge the look on someone’s face when it seems like they want a blunt and if they do, he gives you one,” said Rogen, who, according to HipHopDX, was hired by Waka Flocka Flame to be his professional blunt roller in 2014.

In June, Snoop revealed his PBR had been given a raise due to inflation. The rapper wouldn’t disclose their exact salary, but the UberFacts Twitter account claimed their annual salary was somewhere between $40,000 to $50,000.

Snoop revealed on Stephen A. Smith’s Know Mercy podcast that he and Dr. Dre have spent the last two months working on an album tentatively titled Missionary. He said they hope to release the project later this month.

  • Coolio: Michelle Pfeiffer and Snoop Dogg lead tributes to Gangsta’s Paradise rapper

Stars including Michelle Pfeiffer and Snoop Dogg have been paying tribute to the US rapper Coolio who has died at the age of 59.

He was found unresponsive on the bathroom floor of a friend’s LA house, his manager Jarez Posey told US media.

Coolio, whose real name is Artis Leon Ivey Jr, won a Grammy for the 1995 track Gangsta’s Paradise, which led the soundtrack for Dangerous Minds.

Pfeiffer, who starred in the movie, said she was “heartbroken” at the news.

The exact cause of his death on Wednesday has not yet been revealed.

However Mr Posey told TMZ, which first reported the news, that paramedics believed he may have had a cardiac arrest.

Pfeiffer said she thought Coolio’s track was the “reason our film saw so much success” and that she still gets “chills” whenever she hears it.

“Heartbroken to hear of the passing of the gifted artist Coolio,” she wrote on Instagram, sharing a clip from the famous music video, which sees her sitting across the table from Coolio as he raps.

“A life cut entirely too short,” she continued. “I remember him being nothing but gracious.”

Dangerous Minds saw Pfeiffer play an ex-Marine who becomes a teacher working on a pilot programme for teenagers who are bright but underachieving, in a tough, inner-city school.

Coolio’s haunting track from it, which samples the Stevie Wonder song Pastime Paradise, continues to be widely listened to and has just passed a billion streams on Spotify, according to his official website.

It begins with Coolio reciting a line from the bible – “As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death” – before spinning off into a wide-ranging rap which finds him questioning the actions of those around him and wondering if he will “live to see 24”.

The film grossed nearly £85m (£78m) worldwide and the track became the biggest-selling record of the year in the US, in 1995, and Coolio was awarded the Grammy for best rap solo performance.

Snoop Dogg shared a picture of the two posing on the set of the music video for Gangsta Walk, a track they collaborated on in 2006.

Fellow rapper and actor Ice Cube said: “This is sad news. I witness first hand this man’s grind to the top of the industry,” while Vanilla Ice tweeted: “I’m freaking out I just heard my good friend Coolio passed away,”

Rapper MC Hammer described Coolio as “one of the nicest dudes I’ve known”.

“Good people. RIP Coolio,” he wrote, sharing a black and white picture of the rapper, and later posting a second picture of the pair together, along with Tupac and Snoop Dogg.

Oscar-winning musician Questlove simply tweeted: “Peaceful Journey Brother.”

Rapper Flavor Flav said he and Coolio had been due to “perform together this Tuesday”, saying his friend was “the West Coast Flavor Flav… He loved telling everyone that.”

Singer Debbie Harry paid tribute by saying: “Rest in power”, while rapper LL Cool J wrote the same message, along with “Love & Respect”. Musician Al Yankovic posted a picture of himself with the late rapper.

Coolio started making music in the 80s, but he cemented his place in hip-hop history when he recorded Gangsta’s Paradise, which went on to become one of the most successful rap songs of all time.

A leading figure in the US West Coast rap music scene in the 90s, Coolio was born in Pennsylvania, but grew up in the LA suburb of Compton, where his career flourished.

He rejected the label gangster rapper, and instead embraced the role of an all-round entertainer.

A talented producer and actor, he appeared in dozens of films and TV shows, including Celebrity Big Brother in the UK in 2009.

And he even found an outlet for his love of food with a book and internet series, Cooking with Coolio.

Over a career spanning four decades he recorded eight studio albums and won an American Music Award and three MTV Video Music Awards.

His other hits included Fantastic Voyage, Rollin’ With My Homies, 1, 2, 3, 4 (Sumpin’ New), and Too Hot.

He was active right up until his death – Coolio was in the middle of a tour with other 90s stars including Vanilla Ice and Young MC, and they performed in Texas just a few days ago.

  • Eminem and Snoop Dogg Set to Launch Out of This World Performance at 2022 MTV VMAs

Eminem and Snoop Dogg will rock the stage together for an unforgettable performance at the 2022 MTV VMAs on Aug. 28. Find out more details about the duet’s rare appearance for their latest single.

During the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 28, Eminem and Snoop Dogg will hit the stage for a one-of-kind performance of their latest single, “From the D 2 The LBC.” The rap duo’s summer single—which is also up for an award in the Best Hip Hop category—marks their first collaboration in over 20 years, so it’s safe to say that viewers are beyond excited to see this pair team up again.

Although fans saw Snoop and Eminem hit the stage together earlier this year as part of a star-studded lineup for the 2022 Super Bowl Halftime Show in February, their VMA performance will be historic for more reasons than one.

This upcoming performance will be Eminem‘s first time hitting the awards show stage in 12 years, with the 60-time nominee last performing his hits, “Not Afraid” and “Love the Way You Lie” in 2010.

It’s also worth noting that out of Eminem’s impressive number of nominations (his 60 nods make him the second most nominated artist behind Madonna, who holds a record of 69), he’s won 13 times—making him one of the top five artists with the most wins in the show’s history.

But Eminem isn’t the only one familiar with the number 13 since Snoop has also racked up that exact number of nominations over the years. As far as Snoop’s last VMA performance goes, the “Beautiful” rapper—who has snagged himself three Moon Persons thus far—performed alongside daddy to honor the late Notorious B.I.G. in 2005.
