Social Media reacts to MUSIGA’s GHS500 contribution to Yaw Sarpong’s family

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has faced backlash on social media after donating GH¢500 to the family of late gospel musician Yaw Sarpong during his one-week observation.

The memorial event was held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, in Kumasi to honour the veteran singer.

At the ceremony, MUSIGA presented GHS500 to the bereaved family as its contribution toward funeral preparations.

The donation has since generated divided opinions online.

While some social media users commended the union for demonstrating support and solidarity, others criticised the amount, arguing that it was too small and failed to reflect the stature and legacy of the celebrated gospel artiste.

Critics maintained that Yaw Sarpong made significant contributions to Ghana’s music industry, particularly within the gospel community, and said the donation did not match the impact of his life’s work.

    Read the reactions below:

Veteran Ghanaian gospel musician and founder of the Asomafo gospel group, Yaw Sarpong, has passed away.

Confirmation of his death was given by his manager, Nana Poku Ashis, in an interview with Myjoyonline.com. Official details on the cause of death have not yet been released.

His passing follows closely on the death of Maame Tiwa, a prominent member of the Asomafo group, whose loss shook the gospel music community about a month ago.

Yaw Sarpong had been unwell for several years and had reduced his public appearances while undergoing treatment.

Known for her distinctive and angelic voice, Maame Tiwaa featured in several popular songs, including Tenabea Foforo, Yen Nka Nkyere Yen Agya, Sumenaso, and other well-loved gospel hits.

Since news of her passing broke, social media platforms have been flooded with tributes from fans, with many expressing deep sorrow and extending condolences to Yaw Sarpong and the entire Asomafo family.

  • Three nabbed for posing as Bagbin, IGP, and other top officials on social media

Three nabbed for posing as Bagbin, IGP, and other top officials on social media

Three individuals allegedly impersonating the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and other prominent personalities on social media have been nabbed by the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team.

Gideon Awudi (25), Edem Soku (33), and Judith Soku (31) reportedly defrauded unsuspecting victims by posing as these top officials. They were arrested at Sogakope, Dzodzent, and Penyi after a tip-off.

The suspects allegedly engaged in mobile money fraud, credit card fraud, airtime scams, and online sales fraud through social media platforms. The trio are currently assisting authorities with ongoing investigations.

The arrests come against the backdrop of a worrying rise in cybercrime across the country. In October, the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) announced that Ghana recorded over GH¢19 million in losses to cybercrime between January and September this year, representing a 17 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.

The Authority’s Head of Law Enforcement and Liaison, Colonel George Eduah Bessi, made this revelation during a cybersecurity awareness webinar organised by the Africa Centre for Digital Transformation.

He expressed concern over the growing trend of online crime in Ghana, highlighting the dangers it poses to the economy. Earlier in the year, the authority reported a steep rise in cybercrime, with a record 2,008 cyber incidents, marking a 52 per cent increase from 2024.

He said that among the crimes reported, online fraud was the most prevalent, accounting for about 36 per cent of cases, including mobile money scams, fake investment schemes, and phishing attacks.

Cyberbullying, mostly targeted at women and children, represented 25 per cent of all reported incidents.

Colonel Bessi noted that his outfit has ramped up efforts to create awareness and ensure regulatory compliance among users, urging individuals and businesses to adopt stronger cybersecurity practices.

He commended the Africa Centre for Digital Transformation for its ongoing efforts, stressing that such initiatives are critical to sanitising the digital ecosystem and preventing future threats.

“The rising losses highlight the urgent need for greater cybersecurity awareness across all sectors of Ghana’s digital economy,” he cautioned.

His remarks come on the back of the government’s establishment of a $50 million fund to help fight cybercrime in the country. This was announced by President John Mahama in a speech at the launch of the 2025 National Cyber Security Awareness Month and the inauguration of the Joint Cyber Security Committee at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) on Wednesday, October 1.

“We are establishing a $50 million FinTech Growth Fund to support Ghanaian innovators in developing digital solutions tailored to our local needs. This initiative is a key pillar of our Reset Ghana agenda, aimed at boosting the digital economy and strengthening our fight against cybercrime,” he said.

He added that the fund forms part of his government’s Reset Ghana agenda, which seeks to build a strong and secure digital system.

“As we expand digital public services and mobile money usage, we must reinforce the systems that safeguard them. This is why under the Reset Ghana agenda, my administration has prioritised digital transformation as a key part of our national development policy. And cybersecurity is at the core of that transformation,” President Mahama said.

The President outlined four flagship digital programmes already underway. These include the One Million Coders Programme, which seeks to train young Ghanaians in software engineering, data analytics, and cybersecurity, and the Digital Jobs Initiative, a public-private partnership aimed at creating sustainable employment opportunities in technology.

He added that the new FinTech Growth Fund will support local start-ups to design financial technology solutions that can serve both Ghana and the wider African market.

“The FinTech Growth Fund will support local start-ups to design financial technology solutions that serve Ghana and can be scaled across the African continent. We are investing in innovation that reflects our realities and empowers our people,” he said.

At the same event, Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak confirmed INTERPOL’s report that 68 suspected cybercriminals had been apprehended by the Cyber Crime Unit of the Ghana Police Service in a joint operation that led to the seizure of more than 800 electronic devices linked to online fraud and other illegal activities.

The Asawase Member of Parliament highlighted the government’s commitment to fighting online crime.

“Our cybercrime units successfully arrested 68 suspected cybercriminals, identified 108 victims, and seized over 885 electronic devices linked to illicit activities,” he said.

“This remarkable achievement underscores the unwavering commitment of the Government of Ghana to safeguarding our digital space, protecting our citizens, and contributing to the global fight against cybercrime.”

He also noted that Ghana’s security services are stepping up cyber intelligence and open-source monitoring efforts to track and neutralise threats before they escalate.

“In this fast-evolving landscape, proactive intelligence gathering and threat monitoring are essential. To this end, the Ghana Police Service is employing cyber intelligence, open-source intelligence techniques, and internal data-sharing platforms to identify, track, and neutralise threats before they escalate,” the Minister stated.

On Thursday, September 26, INTERPOL issued a statement, released on its official website, revealing that the operation dubbed Operation Contender 3.0 and funded by the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office under the African Joint Operation against Cybercrime project—discovered that criminal syndicates caused USD 450,000 in financial losses, with USD 70,000 recovered in cash.

“Ghanaian authorities arrested 68 individuals, seized 835 devices and identified 108 victims. Their investigations revealed USD 450,000 in financial losses, with USD 70,000 recovered,” excerpts of the statement revealed.

According to INTERPOL, the operation targeted criminal networks exploiting social media and dating platforms to carry out romance scams and sextortion.

“The crackdown targeted transnational criminal networks exploiting digital platforms, particularly social media, to manipulate victims and defraud them financially. Specifically, the operation focused on romance scams, where perpetrators build online relationships to extract money from victims, and sextortion, in which victims are blackmailed with explicit images or videos,” the statement said.

INTERPOL further explained: “…For romance scams, the suspects had used fake profiles, forged identities and stolen images to deceive victims. The scammers extracted payments using a range of schemes, including fake courier and customs shipment fees. In sextortion cases, offenders secretly recorded intimate videos during explicit chats and used them for blackmail.”

At the continental level, these syndicates have caused an estimated $2.8 million in losses to 1,463 identified victims. During the operation, police identified IP addresses, digital infrastructure, domains, and social media profiles linked to members of the scam syndicates.

These leads and subsequent arrests also resulted in the seizure of USB drives, SIM cards, and forged documents, as well as the takedown of 81 cybercrime infrastructures across Africa.

The operation, which ran from July 28 to August 11, 2025, resulted in the seizure of 1,235 electronic devices continent-wide.

Acting Executive Director of Police Services at INTERPOL, Cyril Gout, highlighted the growing threat, stating, “Cybercrime units across Africa are reporting a sharp rise in digital-enabled crimes such as sextortion and romance scams. The growth of online platforms has opened new opportunities for criminal networks to exploit victims, causing both financial loss and psychological harm.”

He emphasised that collaboration between INTERPOL, its member countries, and private sector partners like Group-IB and Trend Micro was crucial to the operation’s success, enabling enhanced data sharing and swift enforcement actions that led to the takedown of 81 cybercrime infrastructures.

“The transnational operation was strengthened by collaboration with private sector partners Group-IB and Trend Micro, resulting in enhanced data sharing and operational capabilities. The exchange of INTERPOL cyber activity reports facilitated swift enforcement actions from participating countries, underscoring the value of international cooperation in combating cybercrime,” INTERPOL highlighted.

  • ‘I demonized social media until it projected my hard work to the world’ – Piesie Esther

‘I demonized social media until it projected my hard work to the world’ – Piesie Esther

Award-winning gospel musician Piesie Esther has revealed that she use to frown on social media usage until she experienced the positive impacts it had on her music career.

According to her, she held the view that these online platforms were set up to project unholy activities, which deterred her from leveraging them to project her brand.

“I knew that I was working but people were saying I’ve laid low. I was wondering why they were saying I was silent. I got to understand that it’s because I wasn’t active on social media.

“I used to say social media was for maame wata. Some of the things that were going on were beyond me so I was never interested in social media” she said.

Fortunately for her, she has transformed her mind to accept and understand the importance of social media in promoting her work and connecting with fans.

“I wasn’t posting anything, I wasn’t doing anything for people to see daily activities and for them to know I was actively recording music. When you hear of some things, you get to think about it thoroughly, and I’ve grown to understand it better,” she stated.

Regarding the power of social media for musicians, last year, Ghanaian musician Kofi Kinaata expressed his appreciation for the considerable advantages he gained following a mention by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Kinaata revealed that the Asantehene’s acknowledgment notably boosted his social media metrics and revenue.

In a social media post, he lauded Otumfuo for bringing attention to him, stating, “Since being mentioned, my numbers have soared—streams, views, and social media engagement. Opemso, medaase. Piaaww!”

The rapper enthusiastically celebrated this significant recognition on social media with frequent posts.

    What the Otumfuo said

During the General Conference of the Ghana Bar Association, Kofi Kinaata was praised in a speech by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The Asantehene underscored the value of recognizing Ghana’s worth by referencing the phrase ‘Obi nya wayɛ’ from Kinaata’s popular song ‘Susuka.’

He pointed out that despite numerous challenges, many countries look up to Ghana, urging citizens to contemplate the wisdom in Kinaata’s lyrics.

On the other hand, Ghanaian musician Sherifa Gunu also described social media as both a powerful tool and a troubling force in the music industry, especially for female artists striving to maintain their dignity.

Speaking in an interview with Graphic Showbiz, Sherifa noted that while social media platforms such as TikTok have made it easier for artists to reach wider audiences, they have also created a culture where sensationalism often takes precedence over genuine talent.

“Social media is a blessing and a curse. Even if you’re the most talented artiste, you won’t get noticed unless you’re half-naked on TikTok. Sadly, talent alone isn’t enough anymore,” she lamented.

Sherifa expressed concern over the pressure on female musicians to share revealing content in order to attract attention online, stating that many feel forced to compromise their values just to remain relevant.

Despite the challenges, the award-winning singer reaffirmed her commitment to staying true to her craft, using her online presence to promote authenticity.

“I still use my page to remind fans that real music exists,” she said.

She also touched on the broader issue of recognition in the Ghanaian music scene, pointing out that the country tends to honour its legends only after they’ve passed or gained international acclaim. In contrast, she said, other nations celebrate their cultural icons while they are still alive.

Sherifa called for a shift in how Ghana values its veteran musicians, urging stakeholders to celebrate them now rather than wait until it is too late.

Meanwhile, Ghanaian rapper M.anifest shared a refreshing take on what it truly means to succeed, offering valuable advice for both creatives and professionals navigating today’s competitive world.

In an insightful conversation with Bola Ray on Starr Chat, monitored by MyNewsGh, M.anifest shared some key principles for success.

He urged individuals to look beyond the surface when traveling to global cities like London or Paris, saying, “When you’re in places like London or Paris, don’t just posture for the gram. Take the time to learn and build connections—it can transform your perspective and craft.”

With his extensive career and international acclaim, M.anifest’s words carry weight, reflecting the lessons he’s learned along the way. He highlighted the significance of collaboration and staying true to one’s authentic self as paths to growth.

He recounted a moment from his journey, stating, “It’s not always about seeking something. Sometimes, just sharing a meal or a conversation can open doors you never expected.”

Further, M.anifest spoke about the reciprocal nature of success, stressing the importance of both giving and receiving value in relationships. “Too many of us think only about taking, but the best relationships, whether in business or life, are about giving and receiving value. That’s how you grow and thrive,” he explained.

For M.anifest, success is not only about personal growth but collective progress, a principle that guides his ongoing efforts to uplift and support emerging talent in the music industry.

My son’s father is not for social media – Mzbel responds to critics

Ghanaian singer and media personality Mzbel has finally spoken out about ongoing speculations regarding the father of her son, Adepa.

Addressing the rumors, she made it clear that she has no intentions of revealing his identity to the public.

In a recent statement, Mzbel recalled the last time she saw musician Castro before his mysterious disappearance. According to her, their last encounter was during the funeral of Ronny Coaches, a member of Buk Bak, when they worked together on a tribute song.

“The last time I saw Castro was when Ronny Coaches passed away, and we composed a tribute song. I haven’t set my eyes on him since,” she revealed.

She clarified that her son was born six years after her friendship with Castro ended, dismissing assumptions that he could be the child’s father.

“People assume he is the father because we were once close, but I will not disclose who my son’s father is on social media. The attention usually does more harm than good,” she stated.

Mzbel emphasized that keeping her son’s father out of the spotlight is a personal decision, as neither she nor the father wants unnecessary public scrutiny.

“Once people find out, he becomes the center of attention, and his private life will be scrutinized. He doesn’t want that, and neither do I. However, this is my personal business, not something for social media,” she added.

Mzbel’s statement comes amid persistent curiosity from the public, but she remains firm in her stance to keep certain aspects of her personal life private.

Beware of partners who don’t share social media jokes with you – Sonnie Badu warns

Popular gospel musician Sonnie Badu has urged people in relationships to be mindful of their partners’ communication habits, especially when it comes to social media interactions.

In a video shared on his Instagram page, Badu emphasized that strong relationships and friendships are built on consistent communication, whether through talking, texting, or sharing content.

“Relationships and friendships are always built on communication. You gotta communicate every day. If you’re not talking, you’re texting. If you’re not texting, you have to find a way to communicate that greases the relationship,” he stated.

According to him, social media has become a significant part of modern relationships, with couples often bonding over shared jokes and viral content. However, he warned that if a person’s partner is not engaging with them in this manner, they might be doing so with someone else.

“If your wife, husband, boyfriend, or girlfriend is not sharing at least five or six jokes with you on WhatsApp or from social media, please understand that they’re sharing it with somebody else,” he cautioned.

Badu advised individuals to pay attention to these patterns, stressing that in today’s digital era, sharing content has become an essential way of maintaining connections.

“It is the new era we’re in, and it demands that you see what’s happening and you share it. If you’re not getting any jokes from your partner, your friend, your spouse, then there’s somebody they’re sharing it with, and it’s definitely not you. So start looking out for that,” he added.

His comments have since sparked discussions online, with many agreeing that social media habits can reveal a lot about a partner’s level of interest and engagement in a relationship.

Social media platforms generating revenue within our economy must meet their tax obligations – Mpraeso MP

The Member of Parliament for Mpraeso, Davis Ansah Opoku, has called on the government to ensure multinational social media companies operating in Ghana fulfill their tax obligations.

Addressing Parliament, he expressed concern over the Ghana Revenue Authority’s (GRA) inability to effectively tax these digital platforms despite their significant financial activities in the country.

“While we embrace digitalisation to enhance revenue collection, we must also ensure Ghana benefits financially from these digital transactions. If social media platforms generate revenue within our economy, they must meet their tax obligations,” he stated.

Opoku made these remarks while contributing to a discussion on Ghana’s digital economy, following a statement by Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, MP for Klottey Korle, and Kennedy Osei Nyarko, MP for Akim Swedru. The discussion focused on the need for stronger regulations to govern digital transactions and tax compliance.

Other contributors, including Samuel Nartey George, Minister for Communication, emphasized the role of social media companies in fraud prevention and revenue accountability.

Opoku further highlighted that revenue generated from taxing these platforms could be channeled into critical national development projects, including road infrastructure and other essential services.

He called for a structured approach to prevent Ghana from missing out on potential financial inflows, urging Parliament and relevant authorities to implement robust digital tax policies.

Social media companies must be responsible for verifying public officials – Mpraeso MP on online fraud

Member of Parliament for Mpraeso, Davis Ansah Opoku, has called on social media companies to take responsibility for verifying public officials as part of efforts to combat online fraud.

Speaking in Parliament, he urged digital platforms to strengthen identity verification measures to prevent impersonation and fraudulent activities.

“At one point, I had to issue disclaimers on my social media pages, informing the public that any account in my name without a verification tag—the blue tick—was fake,” he revealed.

He recounted instances where scammers created fake Facebook accounts using his name to deceive unsuspecting individuals, stressing the urgent need for stricter digital regulations.

Opoku’s remarks were made during a discussion on digital safety, following a statement by Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings and Kennedy Osei Nyarko. Other MPs, including Minister for Communication Samuel Nartey George, echoed similar concerns.

“As we advance digitalisation, we must safeguard citizens from fraudsters who exploit them under pretences. Social media companies must take responsibility by verifying public officials and removing fraudulent accounts,” he added.

Opoku urged the Communication Ministry to prioritise policies that enhance online identity security, ensuring a safer digital space for all Ghanaians.

  • Meta offers TikTokers $5,000 to join Facebook, Instagram

Meta offers TikTokers $5,000 to join Facebook, Instagram

Social media giant Meta has offered to pay up to $5,000 (£4,040) to popular creators in the United States who join Facebook and Instagram.

It says those joining from “third-party social apps” will get cash based on “an evaluation of your social presence”.

Though it does not mention TikTok by name, the timing would suggest Meta is attempting to capitalise on the uncertainty surrounding its rival, as questions swirl about whether President Trump can find a way of preserving it for US users.

TikTok says it has 170 million users in the US – with many of them relying on it for their livelihoods – meaning lots of people would be seeking an alternative place to post if the platform disappeared.

Meta says on its website that those accepted into the so-called “Breakthrough bonus programme” will be paid the money during their first 90 days on the app, so long as they post regularly.

Users must post at least 20 reels on Facebook and 10 reels on Instagram – Meta’s version of vertical TikTok videos – during each 30-day period.

It also dictates that these must be original videos, rather than those previously shared on other platforms.

But not everyone can join – the cash will only be available to those people who are completely new to either Facebook or Instagram.

And the firm will seemingly decide who to accept on a case-by-case basis, as people must apply to be accepted onto the programme.

It is also offering other perks, such as a free subscription to its blue check verification system.

    Meta courts TikTokers

This is not the first move by Meta to go after ByteDance’s users.

On Sunday, the firm announced Edits, an app strikingly similar to ByteDance’s CapCut – a video editing app which went offline when the ByteDance ban took effect that same day.

And two days earlier, Meta posted a video in which two creators discussed Facebook’s “new affiliate link experience for your shoppable content” – in other words Meta’s attempt to build its own version of the highly successful TikTok Shop.

In the new system, Meta users will be able to add prominent affiliate links directly on their videos – rather than in the comments – exactly how it works on TikTok.

But that’s not all the changes Meta has made – and perhaps the most visually significant is a direct change to how Instagram looks.

Rather than posts and videos being square on user profiles, they are now rectangular – again, clearly taking inspiration from TikTok.

This has led to some backlash from creators frustrated that their profiles now look different, and Instagram boss Adam Mosseri said he was aware of the criticisms.

“One of the mistakes I made was not giving people enough of a heads up,” he said in a post on Threads – a platform which was itself launched by Meta in attempt to capitalise on the turbulence at Twitter, now X.

We’ve no alternative, no political party is worth voting for – Efia Odo

Actress and socialite Efia Odo has joined the #FreeCitizens campaign, which is currently gaining traction on social media.

This movement follows the recent arrests of protestors from the #StopGalamseyNow and #OccupyJulorbiHouse demonstrations, including socialite Ama Governor and artist Glenn Samm, during a three-day protest at Accra’s 37 Military Roundabout.

On September 25, 2024, Efia Odo took to X to express her outrage over the detention of these activists, labeling it as a form of ‘oppression.’ She questioned,

“Set us free from oppressors’ rule, who is our oppressor? Before, we used to blame the white man but if we search deeply it’s our own skin folk causing the oppression. Protestors arrested without bail for what exactly? Are we not allowed to care for the future of this country again?” she asked.

Efia also pondered the challenge of choosing the right political party to support, suggesting that even the opposition, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), might not be capable of rectifying the government’s missteps.

She voiced her frustration with the political landscape, stating, “The crazy part of all of this is, we still have to vote. Who do we even vote for? Someone will say, “the lesser evil”. Excuse my language but we’re fu**ked as a people and as a country. If NDC comes into

“Power it will take more than 4 years to correct any wrongs. I can’t imagine what NPP will also do if they stay in power. Ghana used to be one of the best African countries in the world, but overly corrupt politicians have destroyed our reputation. We don’t have Leaders, we have oppressors,” she added.

In her remarks, she lamented how Ghana, once a leading nation in Africa, has been brought down by corrupt politicians, stating, “We lack true leaders; instead, we have oppressors.”

    Background

The #OccupyJulorbiHouse protesters were arrested during their demonstration, which took place over the weekend.

The arrests followed a three-day protest at the 37 military Roundabout, where demonstrators raised concerns about illegal small-scale mining (galamsey) and economic mismanagement.

On Sunday, September 22, tensions escalated as a major confrontation occurred between protesters from Democracy Hub and the Ghana Police Service, marking the second day of the demonstrations.

The protestors have been remanded by an Accra Circuit Court. They face five charges: conspiracy to commit crime, unlawful assembly, causing unlawful damage, offensive conduct, breach of public peace, and assault on public officers.

They pleaded not guilty to all charges and are set to reappear in court on October 8, 2024.

A pretentious life is not profitable in the long run – Beverly Afaglo

Beverly Afaglo recently shared her thoughts on social media culture, noting that many people who showcase luxury lifestyles online often do so for the sake of gaining followers.

During an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo, the actress expressed her belief that portraying a life of affluence, especially when it doesn’t reflect one’s true circumstances, offers little benefit in the long run.

“People post cars that are not theirs, pose around and talk about them. Some also buy their own cars and announce it was a gift from their man, to praise him, and when they break up, that’s when the embarrassing truth comes out,” she cited.

She highlighted the common practice of people flaunting expensive cars or claiming they received lavish gifts from their partners, only for the truth to emerge after a breakup.

“the speed at which they want to acquire things in life.

“I mean I’m 40. I don’t know why a 25-year-old should drive the car I drive at all cost. That was not even the plan for me when I was 25,” she said.

Afaglo, who described herself as someone who avoids being boastful, emphasized the importance of living authentically.

“It’s unnecessary to always try to impress people. Just live your life,” she advised, explaining that while she’s open to compliments, she doesn’t actively seek validation for her fashion sense or possessions.

Speaking on the pressures faced by younger generations, she cautioned against rushing to acquire material things.

“God can bless you to afford some things. Praise the Lord. A partner could come into your life and give you luxurious things. It’s good. But don’t go and heap on yourself many men, take money from them, put it together and buy that car or rent a place in East Legon because you want to create an impression that you are a big girl [successful and significant].

“If you do this, you’ll find yourself living the life of a prostitute. Eventually, not wanting to be disgraced because of rent will force you into a tight corner,” she said.

“The over-speeding in life is too much. If you are made to feel as though you’re lagging behind, retort: ‘How old am I? I have a long way ahead of me,” the award-winning actress encouraged.

Patoranking’s sister and brother-in-law pass away – Report

The recent deaths of singer Patoranking‘s sister Chioma and her husband, George O Buchi, have left a profound impact on social media users.

Initial reports suggested that a gas explosion was to blame for the tragedy. However, new revelations have challenged this version of events.

In an Instagram update from Seun Oloketuyi, additional details have emerged from Chioma’s close friend, Uchechi. According to Uchechi, the couple passed away on August 25, 2024, at their newly acquired duplex in Ebonyi State.

The sequence of events began when George noticed a burning odor while upstairs with Chioma and their three-year-old son. He went to investigate, followed by Chioma, leaving their child asleep. Shortly after, an explosion occurred.

George suffered critical facial burns and lapsed into a coma, while Chioma, though severely burned, managed to contact friends and her father before being rushed to the hospital by neighbors. Chioma, who was still conscious enough to communicate, died on August 30 at approximately 7:38 pm.

Contrary to earlier reports, Seun Oloketuyi’s post has clarified that the explosion was not due to a gas leak or issues with the gas cylinder or inverter battery, and the generator was situated far from the building.

Recent updates from Nigerian blog Cutie Juls suggest that a thunderstrike may have been the actual cause.

It is now reported that lightning struck the gas system in their home, leading to the fatal incident. New footage of their residence following the explosion has begun circulating online.

I feel depressed when no man makes advances toward me for 3 months – Ghanaian influencer

Ghanaian influencer Princess Ama Burland has recently voiced her discomfort on social media about not receiving romantic advances for the past three months.

Known for frequently attracting attention from men, she shared on the Rants, Bants and Confessions podcast that a lack of such attention for an extended period makes her feel uneasy and anxious.

“My whole life, men have been moving to me. If I move for three months and no boy has moved, I start feeling depressed. I ask myself what happened those three months,” she stated in a discussion on the Rants, Bants and Confessions podcast.

She humorously speculated that if the situation persists, she might suspect that a family member has cast a spell on her, affecting her appearance and causing this unusual dry spell.

“I feel like my family witches have put something on my face. You know that they put on your face and you look ugly? People have been moving to me all my life. So, these three months, nobody?” she added.

Her remarks have stirred diverse reactions online.

Some social media users have expressed skepticism, suggesting that her reliance on external validation for self-worth may reflect deeper issues.

One commenter criticized the idea of using romantic attention as a measure of self-esteem, while another empathized with the discomfort of not receiving positive attention despite multiple attempts.

“This is how they use men for attention. They are just using many of you men to kill depression,” a netizen commented.

“If men are the reason, you feel good; you are not loved at home. Imagine feeling depressed because men didn’t talk to you,“ said another

Another social media user said, “Yes, even as a man, if you toast 10 girls and no one agrees to date you, you will become uncomfortable, asking yourself what is wrong with you.”

Prophet Nicholas Osei, widely known as Prophet Kumchacha and founder of Heaven’s Gate Ministries, has appealed to Ghanaians to forgive Pastor Love after the latter issued a public apology for his recent social media outburst.

The call for reconciliation follows Pastor Love’s apology for making derogatory comments about his ex-wife, gospel singer Obaapa Christy, on social media.

In a discussion on Onua TV, Prophet Kumchacha commended Pastor Love for admitting his mistake and seeking forgiveness, praising the pastor’s maturity in recognizing his error.

“Marriage and marital issues are not easy. If it were easy even Jesus would have married.

“I think Pastor Love is a good pastor. After all he did, he realised that he made an error and he came to apologize, I commend him for that,” he said.

Earlier in August, Pastor Love responded to Obaapa Christy’s claim that he had no role in writing her hit songs by making accusatory posts on social media, which included vulgar language and allegations against other pastors.

Following backlash, he expressed remorse and apologized for his actions, admitting that his comments were driven by anger and acknowledging his human fallibility.

In response, Obaapa Christy rejected the accusations and described them as falsehoods and part of a demonic scheme to tarnish her reputation.

Efia Odo has stirred up controversy with her latest remarks on dating preferences, which have sparked a heated debate on social media.

In a forthcoming episode of “Rants, Bants, and Confessions,” the socialite and entrepreneur shared that she finds it unacceptable to date a man in his 30s who still resides with his parents.

Odo emphasized that her lifestyle, which involves being comfortably nude or in lingerie at home, demands a high degree of privacy.

She asserted that living with his family would hinder her ability to be herself, labeling it a major red flag for anyone over 30 who doesn’t have their own space.

“Any guy who is 30 and above and still lives with his parent is a red flag because I love to walk around the house naked. I’d love to walk about in lingerie and whatnot. If you don’t have your own space and you live with your mum, you’re a red flag,” she stated.

In addition, Odo made a provocative statement about men from Tema, calling them a red flag as well.

“Any guy who is from Tema is a red flag.”

Reflecting on her past, she admitted that her standards have evolved: “There was a time when I overlooked these things, but now, it’s non-negotiable.”

Find a woman prettier than your ex-wife and flaunt her – Oboy Siki advises Kweku Manu

Actor Kwaku Manu has been advised to improve his public image and heal from his breakup by dating a woman who is more attractive than his ex-wife.

Following the widespread news of his ex-wife, Naa Okailey Nyarko, remarrying and showcasing her new husband online, reactions on social media have been mixed.

Some believe Mrs Nyarko is intentionally trying to provoke Kwaku Manu, while others empathize with him, recognizing that her online display of affection with her new partner adds to his distress.

In response, Kumawood actor Oboy Siki has suggested a strategy for Kwaku Manu to both move on and subtly address his ex-wife’s actions.

Oboy Siki has recommended that Kwaku Manu find a new, more beautiful partner and highlight their relationship on social media.

Oboy Siki stated, “Kwaku should find a woman who is prettier than his ex-wife and flaunt her on social media. Ghanaians love to talk, and since all eyes are on Kwaku, he should make a choice that will outshine his ex-wife’s public display of affection with her new white husband. This way, she will see that he has moved on to something better.”

He continued, “Kwaku should make sure to show off his new partner everywhere online. This will make his ex-wife aware of his new situation. If he doesn’t find someone prettier than Okailey, he will be embarrassed on social media.”

When asked about the possibility that Kwaku Manu has already found someone, Oboy Siki responded, “Kwaku isn’t known for being smooth with women. He is not a sweet talker and cannot woo a woman. It is challenging for him, so I don’t believe he currently has anyone.”

In the meantime, Kwaku Manu has refuted allegations of being heartbroken.

In a video posted on his YouTube channel, he stressed that he and his ex-wife continue to have a good relationship.

“I look like a roasted pig” – Woman reacts to negative effects of butt enlargement products

A young woman has taken to social media to vent her frustration and anger over a product she claims was meant to enhance her buttocks and hips but instead drastically altered her entire body.

In a viral video, the visibly distraught woman threatened legal action against the sellers if they did not refund the GH¢3,000 she spent on the product.

She explained that she purchased the enhancement product online with the intention of increasing the size of her hips and buttocks.

However, instead of achieving the desired effect, the product allegedly caused significant bloating, particularly in her face and upper body.

The transformation has been so extreme that her own family no longer recognizes her, leading to deep emotional distress.

The woman demanded a full refund from the sellers within 24 hours, warning that failure to comply would result in legal consequences.

She expressed her anger and disappointment, stating, “I wanted to enhance my hips and butt, but now I look unrecognizable.

My own family doesn’t know me anymore, and it hurts so much. If they abandon me, I will hold you responsible and ensure you’re arrested.”

The young woman’s emotional plea has garnered widespread attention, highlighting the potential dangers of using unverified enhancement products.

“I told you I wanted to enhance my hips and butt but look at how I look now, like an Indian, but I am not an Indian. The person who did this, I am giving you 24 hours to refund my money. GH¢3,000 is not a small amount of money,” she said.

“I paid for three different products; please refund my money to me. Do you know what I look like now? A live-roasted pig. It’s like I am no longer part of humanity. The most annoying part of the whole issue is that my own family cannot recognize me, and it is paining me so much.

“Why does my family want to abandon me because they feel this is not me? And why am I looking so big because of this foolish product? If my family abandons me, by any means, I will have you arrested. I will track your phone and have you arrested,” she added

Why cross-dressers cannot yet be arrested in Ghana

In recent times, Ghana has observed the increasing activities of cross-dressers, individuals who wear clothing traditionally associated with the opposite gender.

Presently, most cross-dressers are well-known male skit makers who have been sharing their artistic content on social media platforms such as X, TikTok and others.

Wesly Kesse, Akonoba, and Kcreietin are among the many male skit makers who employ cross-dressing in the making of their content.

African countries like Nigeria can speak of cross-dressers such as Bobrisky, and James Brown. These men have faced severe repercussions, including imprisonment and even violence. However, they also have a fan base.

The resentment for male cross-dressers is also present in Ghana. On the X platform, some Ghanaians continue to pass derogatory remarks.

Due to the female roles they play, they are labelled as gays by some Ghanaians. It is important to note that none of the Ghanaian cross-dressers cited for this article have come out of the closet or indicated that they are not straight.

Some Ghanaians have called on the Ghana Police Service to arrest such individuals. Such a request has prompted the need to find out if presently, Ghana has provisions in its laws, that could see such cross-dressers behind bars.

Presently, Ghana does not have any laws that make cross-dressing illegal. The closest thing to a law is the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill of 2021, also known as the anti-LGBTQ bill.

On February 28, 2024, Ghana’s Parliament unanimously passed the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2021.

The bill which is yet to be assented to by President Akufo-Addo to become law criminalises the mere identification as an LGBTQ+ community member and “related activities,” including same-sex relationships, the use of sex toys, and cross-dressing.

Per reports from one of the proponents of the bill, Sam Nartey George, several amendments have been made to the bill, indicating that the initial document which circulated on social media three years ago has been altered.

In a media engagement, he noted that some amendments include sanctions for males and females who cross-dress to make sexual advances to their same gender and not necessarily cross-dressing for entertainment purposes.

Presently, the content of the bill has not been made public as the President has been advised against receiving the bill from the Clerk of Parliament due to the legal action against the bill currently at the Supreme Court.

In the majority of Ghana’s cultural practices, it is prohibited for a man to dress as a female for his day-to-day activities. The only instances where men and women can be portrayed as the opposite gender is during festivals.

Although cross-dressing is sometimes associated with the LGBT+ community, it’s important to note that not all cross-dressers identify as queer, and cross-dressing does not automatically imply an LGBT+ identity.

Meanwhile, Ghanaian female dancehall artiste cum gospel preacher, Mercy Onuawonto Sam, popularly known as Iona Reine has issued a word of caution to cross-dressers in Ghana.

According to her, the young men who dress up as women for comedy will end up in hell if they continue. Iona added that the Bible is against men and women who dress in the opposite sex for entertainment.

There are many fleeting musical talents in the industry – Big Joe Frazier

During a recent interview on Xzone with Afia Owusu, veteran artist Big Joe Frazier shared his perspectives on the evolving music industry.

He noted that while social media has made it easier for new artists to break into the scene, it has also introduced challenges.

Frazier reminisced about the difficulties of his early career, when limited understanding of the Twi dialect and scarce investment in music made success hard to come by.

Today’s environment, he observed, offers more financial support but also presents a different kind of challenge.

The ease of gaining popularity through social media means that not all artists achieve lasting success, as some may experience short-lived fame without substantial talent.

He emphasized that in the past, the rigorous process before a song’s release ensured its quality and success.

Nowadays, social media allows for quicker exposure, even for those who might lack deep musical skills.

Many artistes lack real talent just social media hype – Big Joe Frazier

Veteran artist Big Joe Frazier recently shared his views on the current music scene during an interview with Afia Owusu on Xzone, TV XYZ.

He acknowledged the positive role social media has played in providing new artists with opportunities that were not available during his career.

Frazier reflected on the challenges of his era, noting that the understanding of the Twi dialect was limited and there was less financial backing for music projects.

“Back then, it was tough. People didn’t understand the Twi dialect, and there was little investment in music. Now, investors are more willing to fund music projects.”

Today, he observes that while there is more investment in music, it hasn’t necessarily translated into sustained success for all artists.

He pointed out that despite social media’s ability to boost an artist’s visibility, it can also lead to a lot of fleeting popularity for those who may not possess genuine talent.

“Some artistes succeed, while others struggle,” he commented. “This disparity is normal and exists everywhere, even in our days.

According to Frazier, the rigorous processes that used to be in place for music releases helped ensure quality and potential success.

In contrast, modern platforms allow artists to gain attention with minimal effort and without deep musical expertise.

Social media reactions to Chef Smith’s false cook-a-thon GWR certificate

Social media users have condemned Ghanaian Chef Smith for his attempt to set a new world record for the longest cooking marathon, criticizing his fraudulent claims.

Many expressed deep disappointment with Chef Smith for his deliberate attempt to deceive the public. Others also criticized him for engaging in deceitful behavior that has brought international embarrassment to the nation.

The media also faced criticism as the public faulted journalists for spreading the story without verifying or conducting proper due diligence to confirm Chef Smith’s claim of winning the title.

    Background

GhOne TV’s recent report disclosed that Chef Smith from Ghana does not hold the current record for the world’s longest cooking marathon.

According to GhOne TV, this information was verified through an email from Guinness World Records (GWR).

The media outlet clarified that the certificate displayed by Chef Smith was not authentic but a counterfeit intended to deceive the public for recognition.

This clarification came after Edem Kojo queried the GWR team via email to verify Chef Smith’s claim as the new record holder for the cook-a-thon.

“No, this is not true at all. He [Chef Smith] does not hold the GWR title and that is not our certificate. The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 119 hours, 57 minutes, and 16 seconds and was achieved by Alan Fisher (Ireland) in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from September 28 to October 3, 2023,” the email read, as reported by GhOne TV on their X page.

This revelation comes after Chef Smith’s press conference at La Palm Beach Hotel on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, where he formally celebrated his supposed significant feat. A banner at the entrance to the conference room announced: “Press Conference. Revealing the New World Cook-a-Thon Record Holder. Millennium Chef Smith from Ghana with an astounding 802 hours, 25 minutes, surpassing Irish King, Alan Fisher.”

Following subsequent reports, Chef Smith was seen displaying a plaque that included a certificate from GWR, proclaiming him as the new record holder.
