Take a cue from the US elections and focus of the economy – Michael Blackson to Ghanaian politicians

American-Ghanaian comedian Michael Blackson has urged Ghanaian politicians to prioritise economic issues in their campaign rallies, drawing lessons from the recent U.S. presidential election.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on November 7, 2024, Blackson referenced former President Donald Trump’s recent election victory, emphasizing that economic concerns are pivotal in elections worldwide.

He encouraged Ghanaian leaders to focus on sharing their economic strategies with the public during campaign rallies.

“Ghana, take a lesson from the USA campaign rallies; the economy is the most important thing in any country. Tell the people what you are going to do to make the economy better,” Blackson wrote.

Blackson’s statement comes amid heightened public concern over economic issues in Ghana.

With the country heading to the polls on December 7, 2024, political campaigns have ramped up, and candidates are employing various tactics to attract voters.

  • Joe Biden has asked me to help him win US presidential elections – Rev Owusu Bempah

Joe Biden has asked me to help him win US presidential elections – Rev Owusu Bempah

Founder and leader of the Glorious Word Power Ministries, Reverend Isaac Owusu-Bempah, has claimed during a sermon on Sunday, July 14, 2024, that a delegation from US President Joe Biden approached him seeking assistance for the 2024 US presidential elections.

Owusu-Bempah revealed that Biden’s delegation visited him, prompting him to advise them to return on Friday, July 19, 2024.

He expressed a personal desire to pray for former US President Donald Trump’s re-election, despite receiving conflicting requests from Biden’s team.

“Nowadays, politics has become bloody. I heard Trump had been shot, but he didn’t die. I don’t know why they want to shoot Trump, but when I saw that they had taken the key from him and he would lose for Joe Biden to come, do you remember?” Owusu-Bempah said.

“It happened, and now he is coming back. I said he would return, and now he is coming back to contest. This time, I am not going to say anything, but I am going to pray for him. I want him to win. This is my personal support for him and not a prophecy.”

He continued, “Joe Biden’s people have come to me, that whatever I can do to make Joe Biden get the strength to win the election, I should do it. Then what I just said about Trump, Joe Biden has heard it. This is trouble, so I also support Joe Biden with prayers.”

Owusu-Bempah also admitted initially forgetting Biden’s delegation, saying, “Praying for Joe Biden and Trump. I have even forgotten that Joe Biden has sent his people to me. I told them to come this Friday. When they came, the pastor was in my house, and I had forgotten that Joe Biden had sent his people to me.”

  • The founder of Russia’s Wagner Group admits to US election meddling

A day before the US elections, Russian businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin says he will continue to meddle.A day before the midterm elections in the United States, the founder of Russia’s Wagner Group, a private mercenary force, admitted to meddling in US elections and promised to continue.

“We have interfered, we are interfering and we will continue to interfere – carefully, accurately, surgically and in our own way, as we know how to do,” Yevgeny Prigozhin said on Monday in comments posted by the press service of his Concord catering firm on Russian social media.

“During our pinpoint operations, we will remove both kidneys and the liver at once,” the Russian businessman wrote on VK, the Russian equivalent of Facebook.

    He did not elaborate.

A 2018 US Justice Department indictment accused a Prigozhin-linked troll farm, the Internet Research Agency, of sowing divisions in the US electorate during the 2016 election campaign by using Facebook and Twitter.

Prigozhin usually keeps a low public profile but has become more outspoken in the course of the Ukraine war and has criticised Russian generals.

In September, after years of secrecy, he admitted to founding the Wagner Group, which has been active in Syria, African nations and now Ukraine.

On Friday, the Wagner Group opened a defence technology centre in St Petersburg, a further step by Prigozhin to highlight his military credentials and take a more public role in Russia’s defence policy.

Prigozhin owns a network of companies and is often referred to as “Putin’s chef” because his catering company has Kremlin contracts.

In July, the US State Department offered a reward of up to $10m for information on Prigozhin in connection with “engagement in US election interference.”
