Rescue teams are looking for a US Marine Corps helicopter that disappeared while flying to California.
The helicopter called CH-53E Super Stallion was supposed to come back to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, near San Diego, but it didn’t come on time on Wednesday.
Five soldiers were riding in a helicopter that was flying from an airbase near Las Vegas.
The sheriff’s department in San Diego is helping to look for something.
The Marines said that the missing Marines were from a helicopter squadron that is part of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, based in Miramar.
The fire department was told about a missing airplane at 2:20 in the morning. They sent teams to look for it near Lake Morina, California, but they couldn’t find the helicopter.
Officials said the heavy snow and winter conditions made it difficult for them to search.
The CH-53E Super Stallion started being used in 1981 and is an important aircraft for the Marine Corps. It is mostly used for transporting things. It can hold 37 people in its regular setup.

23 US Marines hurt after Osprey plane crashes in Australia exercise
During military training in Australia, an Osprey airplane crash led to the injury of 23 US Marines, according to the Northern Territory Police Commissioner Michael Murphy.
Five marines got sent to the hospital – one of them is having surgery – while the rest are getting help at the place it happened, according to Northern Territory Chief Minister Natasha Fyles at a press conference on Sunday.
“We are putting in a lot of effort and working as quickly as possible to ensure that we can help people receive treatment,” Fyles mentioned. He also confirmed that officials from Australia have talked to their counterparts in the United States.
Fyles mentioned that the people being prioritized at the scene are waiting to be transported to Darwin. She didn’t say anyone died.
Two US Marine Osprey aircraft flew from Darwin towards the Tiwi Islands, which are approximately 80 km away, on Sunday morning, according to Murphy’s statement. An airplane had an accident on Melville Island, he said.
The spokesperson for the Australian Department of Defence said that the incident happened during Exercise Predator’s Run 2023.
Right now, we are focusing on how we’re handling the incident and making sure everyone involved is safe, the spokesperson said.
There have been many accidents involving Osprey military aircraft over the years.

Carbon monoxide poisoning cause of three US marine’s demise – Investigators
Carbon monoxide poisoning, according to investigators, killed the three US marines who were discovered dead outside a petrol station in North Carolina.
Three marines were discovered unconscious inside a car that had been parked at a petrol station about 30 miles south of Camp Lejeune by sheriff’s deputies in North Carolina on Sunday morning.
Their deaths were “consistently due to carbon monoxide poisoning,” the North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner stated on Wednesday.
The names of the three marines were given as Lance Corporal Tanner J. Kaltenberg, 19, Lance Corporal Merax C. Dockery, 23, and Lance Corporal Ivan R. Garcia, 23.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, at 8.30 p.m., the marines’ first missing persons complaint was made after Lance Corporal Dockery’s parents got concerned after he failed to return home to Oklahoma on a planned flight.
The three marines were discovered about 30 minutes later in a Speedway convenience store in Hampstead.
Burning gasoline, especially that from moving cars, releases carbon monoxide, a colourless, odourless gas.
The Centres for Disease Control estimate that 400 Americans die from accidental carbon monoxide poisoning each year. As a result of the gas, 14,000 more individuals are hospitalised.
The authorities refused to say if the marines’ poisoning was done on purpose or by accident.
Brigadier General Michael McWilliams expressed his condolences and sincere sympathies to the friends, family, and coworkers of Lance Cpls. Kaltenberg, Dockery, and Garcia.
The general declared, “Our focus is on providing the necessary resources and support to those impacted by their tragic loss as they navigate this incredibly trying time.”
Local North Carolina officials also expressed their sympathy.
Pender County Sheriff Alan Cutler expressed his sadness over the tragic and enduring deaths of the three young men, who had all rendered honourable service to their country. “Our thoughts and prayers are with their families and coworkers at this time,” the statement reads.
