Video of NDC members swearing has been misinterpreted – NDC communicator

A Communication team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Richard Manuribe, has called for calm among Ghanaians in response to a viral video showing some members taking a blood oath.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Thursday, Mr. Manuribe clarified that the ceremony, which occurred in 2019, involved the swearing-in of newly appointed Directors of Election.

He emphasized that the content has been misreported and misinterpreted.

Mr. Manuribe stated, “The NDC is aware of the video because the party organized the event. I was there and part of the people sworn in, but it is never true that there was any pledge to sacrifice our lives and that of our firstborns. It was an oath of allegiance and secrecy.”

He pointed out that the Director of Elections is now Dr. Omane-Boamah, not Afriyie-Ankrah, who was part of the ceremony.

In the video, NDC stalwarts, including Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and Daniel Amartey Mensah, were seen taking secret vows in a meeting.

“By this sword, I vow, that if I compromise, and sell my party out for money for this coming election, may I die and my first born also die in my place, so help me God. Amen,” Mr Ankrah said, holding the sword upright, while barefooted.

The video is believed to be part of the efforts by the NDC to ensure that its members do not betray the party or its flagbearer, John Mahama, who is seeking to return to power after losing the 2020 election to the incumbent President, Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

However, Mr. Manuribe clarified that the oath was about allegiance to the party and job secrecy, not pledging lives or firstborns.

He dismissed the video as a deliberate attempt to divert attention from pressing national issues, claiming that the footage had been doctored.

Mr. Manuribe asserted, “Why will he swear by blood and our firstborn? Afriyie Ankrah, for instance, is a committed Christian and will not do any such thing. All we did was to swear allegiance to the job.”

  • Fantana is not the biggest female Dancehall artiste in Ghana – Bulldog

Fantana is not the biggest female Dancehall artiste in Ghana – Bulldog

In light of her performances and the quantity of songs she has recorded, Fantana cannot claim to be the biggest female dancehall musician in Ghana, according to creative director/artist management Bullgod.

He added that for someone to declare him or herself as the biggest artiste, then that person must have a number of songs or catalogs to do that as well as shows and works to serve as proof, therefore, Fantana has not obtained that level yet.

Appearing as a guest on United Showbiz hosted by MzGee, he made such claims.

“She crosses over. How did she become the biggest? How many works does she have? If you weigh the matter, she’s not. You need to have a number of catalogs to do that.

Citing Ebony as an example, he said Ebony can be called the biggest female dancehall artiste in Ghana because she has the music and other things to show as evidence that she is.

“If I am going to say Ebony is a dancehall artiste, till today, her catalogs are there to show. Even if she is not even here, bless his soul. She is one of the biggest ever till today”, he said.

He went ahead to list a number of Ghanaian musicians who can boldly call themselves big artists and they include Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, and Samini.

He explained: “For somebody to say there are big, if Sarkodie says he’s big, there are works to show, If Shatta Wale says he’s big, there are works to show, Stonebwoy, Samini, you know Catalog and Fantana doesn’t have it. She is talented, she is beautiful, and has everything to be the biggest. Maybe she is speaking into her future so when she comes, she should work towards that and shouldn’t be based on words”.

On May 19, 2023, Fantana who has landed her role in one of the hottest Africa reality television series, ‘Young, Famous, and African’, in an introduction on an episode of the series mentioned that She is the biggest female dancehall artiste in Ghana.

Her declaration aroused several reactions from some netizens and other people who know much about music and through the statement she made, Bulldog also shared his opinion on the issue.

Adib Saani demands investigation into police intimidation by alleged unlicensed miners

Adib Saani, a security expert, has questioned the Ghana Police Service’s narrative of what happened in the viral video that showed several police officers being ridiculed by some alleged illegal miners at Axim in the Western region.

In the video the miners were heard accusing the police of extortion.

However, in a statement said at least four people have been arrested for their suspected involvement in the attack on police personnel at Axim adding that the allegation of extortion is also being investigated.

The police further added that efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspects.

Speaking on Star Midday News with Naa Dedei Tetteh on Monday April 3, 2023, Mr. Saani requested that a holistic investigation be carried out into the incident.

“Whether the perpetrators know each other or not but from my observation I can see there is some degree of familiarity and it appears as though they also know each other and have been doing business together. But what type of business I wouldn’t be able to tell.

“That is why it is critical that we don’t constrict the investigation but we investigate the police as well to ascertain exactly what they were doing there and whether it was officially sanctioned and whether indeed they were given money or not,” Adib Saani stated.

Meanwhile, a section of the public are also calling for an independent investigation rather than the police investigating the issue.

  • Five Iranian girls dancing to Rema’s song arrested

Five Iranian girls dancing to Rema’s song arrested

Five young Iranian women who were dancing to the song “Calm Down” by Nigerian Afrobeat artist and rapper Divine Ikubor, also known as Rema, are purportedly in custody.

Due to their lack of head scarves while dancing to Rema’s hit song, the five ladies’ video went viral on Tuesday.

The Times of Israel reported that there are anxieties about their well-being for filming themselves dancing as they were arrested and forced into confessing by Iran’s authorities.

The footage showed the women dancing and slightly showing their stomachs, near highrise buildings in the Tehran residential district of Ekbatan to the song.

It spread widely on TikTok and other social media channels last week around International Women’s Day on March 8.

Activists, apparently from the Ekbatan area, first posted the video on Telegram and Twitter. They said authorities had been asking residents in the area if they knew the women, based on the footage, The Times of Israel said.

On Tuesday, the activists alleged the women had been detained and forced into making a video in which they expressed regret.

In the Islamic Republic, it is illegal for women to dance in public as well as to not wear the Islamic headscarf.

Abolition of the obligatory headscarf rule has been one of the chief demands of the civil unrest that erupted in September after the death of Mahsa Amini, 22, who had been arrested for allegedly violating the dress code.

This video of Iranian girls in Tehran’s Ekbatan neighbourhood dancing unveiled to the song Calm Down by Rema and Selena Gomez has gone viral.

After the initial viral footage of the five, another video emerged on social media of four women, their heads fully covered, stepping forward one by one to express regret.

It appeared to have been filmed in a similar Ekbatan area, but neither the video nor the circumstances in which it was made could be verified.

Whether the women had been released was also not immediately clear.

Ekbatan, a middle-income area popular with young professionals and families, saw repeated anti-regime actions in the past few months.

Rema retweeted the video of the women dancing with their long hair uncovered and commented: “To all the beautiful women who are fighting for a better world, I’m inspired by you, I sing for you and I dream with you.”

The song “Calm Down” became a global hit after Rema issued a remix with superstar Selena Gomez.

Kenyan teachers held over video of pupils simulating sex

Kenyan police have arrested six teachers from a primary school in the western part of the country over a widely shared video showing pupils simulating sex acts as the teachers watch.

Local media report that the teachers in Nyamache, in Kisii county, were arrested after education ministry officials watched the clip and raised a complaint.

In the video, adults can be heard talking and laughing out loud as someone records the four boys who are in school uniforms.

A police report noted that the clip “exposing the pupils in an indecent act” appeared to have originated from the school.

It said the six arrested were assisting in investigations and appropriate charges would follow.

The video has sparked an uproar on social media, with many calling for action.

“What they did can only be termed as barbarous, bestial, and insane. It has no justification whatsoever! Let them face the full force of the law,” a one person on Twitter said.

“I support the arrest of the six teachers… There is no justification [for] what they did,” another said.

Kenya opposition leader faces lawsuit over secret video claim

The opposition lawmaker Raila Odinga, has said that the election team, including the chairman, paid a visit to his home during last year’s fiercely contested election, prompting the previous head of Kenya’s electoral commission to threaten legal action against the individual.

Mr. Odinga has been holding a series of rallies claiming Wafula Chebukati engineered a fraud that led to him losing his fifth bid for the presidency.

Despite the Supreme Court dismissing his election rigging claims, Mr Odinga recently said he does not recognise President William Ruto as a legitimate leader and called on him to resign.

On Sunday, he threatened to release a video showing Mr Chebukati and his top team visited his home.

But Mr Chebukati has denied that the visit took place saying the claim was false and that it “lowered his dignity and injured his reputation.”

“Our client is aggrieved that you took no caution or responsibility while making the adverse remarks with the consequence that our client has suffered and continues to suffer serious reputational injury, taking into account his status and position as former chairman of IEBC,” lawyer Steve Ogolla said in the demand letter.

Mr Chebukati’s lawyers have also given Mr Odinga seven days to prove his claim or they will take legal action.

On Monday, President William Ruto wondered why Mr Odinga would have the electoral team visit his house.

“It then begs the question … if it’s true, what were these officials doing in your house at your invitation? Being a candidate, how did you end up inviting officials of an independent body?” Mr Ruto said.

  • Anas’ latest video ‘misleading’; Ghanaians deserve a serious explanation – Elizabeth Ohene

Ace broadcaster Elizabeth Ohene has submitted that investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has some serious questions to answer.

She said this has become necessary due to some grey areas and questions arising out of the ‘Galamsey Economy‘ video he aired at the Accra International Conference Center earlier this week.

According to the former Information Minister, the name ‘Galamsey’ suggested illegal mining activities was the subject of the video but that was not the case.

She also questioned why the main corruption video was recorded in February 2018 but released in November 2022, more than 4 years later.

“I was looking for the definitive exposé that will stop the speculation and leave the authorities with no choice but to move decisively on the problem. It turns out I was wrong and the person that was in the crosshairs of the Anas treatment this time was Charles Adu Boahen, Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance.

“It is not clear if our intrepid underground investigator was playing on the nickname, GALANSEY, that Mr Adu Boahen has been known and called by his mates since his childhood days,” she said.

“I believe Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his team owe us some explanations.

“If, as it turns out, this incident with Charles Adu Boahen was filmed back in 2018, why have they kept it under wraps all this while and why have they chosen this time, November 2022, almost five years later, to release it?

“If, in their judgement, they saw what transpired in that hotel room in the United Arab Emirates as so reprehensible, why have they kept it for almost five years?

“They have looked on while Charles Adu Boahen served a full term as Deputy Minister of Finance in the first Akufo-Addo government.

“They looked on while Charles Adu Boahen was nominated by the re-elected President Akufo-Addo as a Minister of State and vetted by Parliament and sworn into office.

“They have looked on as Charles Adu Boahen has performed his duties as Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance.

“In the intervening four plus years, one must wonder what they were doing with their film and what relationship, if any, they had with the Minister of State,” she added.

Read Elizabeth Ohene reaction to Galamsey Economy

I have not seen the latest Anas video, dubbed Galamsey Economy. I am following the stories surrounding the video and I acknowledge that many of us had been sent off track when the first announcement of the approach of the video was made.

I did, like many other people, think that this was going to be a documentary on illegal mining and the devastation being wrought on our lands and water bodies.

Yes, I was holding my breath to find out the big names that were behind the galamsey phenomenon, the names that people hint at, but do not ever disclose.

A number of queasy things emerge from the accounts of this video, not sure if it qualifies as a documentary, but that is another story.

I believe Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his team owe us some explanations.

If, as it turns out, this incident with Charles Adu Boahen was filmed back in 2018, why have they kept it under wraps all this while and why have they chosen this time, November 2022, almost five years later, to release it?

If, in their judgement, they saw what transpired in that hotel room in the United Arab Emirates as so reprehensible, why have they kept it for almost five years?

They have looked on while Charles Adu Boahen served a full term as Deputy Minister of Finance in the first Akufo-Addo government.

They looked on while Charles Adu Boahen was nominated by the re-elected President Akufo-Addo as a Minister of State and vetted by Parliament and sworn into office.

They have looked on as Charles Adu Boahen has performed his duties as Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance.

In the intervening four plus years, one must wonder what they were doing with their film and what relationship, if any, they had with the Minister of State.

Hello, Mr Adu Boahen, good morning, just calling to check up on you and to make sure you remember your encounter with the Sheikhs in the hotel room.

Hello, Mr Adu Boahen, good evening, we saw a picture of you today with a high-powered delegation from some foreign country talking high finance and we just remembered your encounter with the Sheikhs in the hotel room in the Emirates.

Hello Mr Adu Boahen, good afternoon, we do hope you are having a good day, you are on the radio speaking about the government’s plans for the next five years and we thought you might want to remember your encounter with the Sheikhs in the hotel room.

Hello Mr Adu Boahen, long time, we are doing a clear-out of the closets in our offices and we came across some old canned films and we were wondering if you still remembered your encounter with the Sheikhs in the hotel room so long ago.

Nobody is ever likely to emerge smelling roses when associated with dollars in black plastic bags and once there is a scene captured on camera of the then deputy minister stuffing monies into a plastic bag, it was fair to conclude his fate was sealed.

In spite of the fact that he said in the course of his unnecessary premature counting of dividends that he believes in working for his money, that stuffed plastic bag paints a picture of greed.

It is not disclosed in the video how much there was of the dollars given to him as shopping money and he must have cursed himself a thousand times since that day he didn’t turn down the offer.

Surely, he didn’t need that money and he could have done without whatever shopping he did that day, but I suppose we can all think of some things we would have done differently and we are just lucky our moments were not captured by hidden cameras.

Some have made the point that it would have been culturally unacceptable to turn down “shopping money” offered by millionaire Sheikhs in the Emirates. Maybe we should all not be so concerned about upsetting the cultural sensibilities of unknown rich people.

As far as the parts in the video in which the Vice-President was the subject are concerned, I am going to stick to the then Deputy Finance Minister saying: the Vice-President is not really like that. I am also mindful of the fact that we were taught to resist what lawyers call leading questions when conducting interviews.

Tiger Eye says this was a documentary aimed at exposing those making Ghana unattractive for investors and cut deals at the expense of the state.

If indeed, they had managed to “penetrate the modus operandi” of these people and had then kept silent for almost five years, they must be almost guilty of collusion. We need some answers.

  • GES condemns, apologizes to Akufo-Addo over Chiana SHS students’ attacks in viral video

The Ghana Education Service(GES) has condemned the “misconduct” of some students of Chiana Senior High School in the Kassena Nankana West District who were seen in a viral video circulating on social media launching scathing attacks on the President.

In a 60 minutes video, the students of the said school were captured spewing insults at the President using vulgar and unprintable words.

A statement issued by the GES said the students in the video have been identified as second-year students of Chiana Senior High School.

It reiterated that management of the school has begun investigations to unravel the circumstances surrounding “such unfortunate utterances and gestures,” adding parents of the students have also been invited to assist in the investigations.

“Management of Ghana Education Service (GES) condemns this unfortunate act which is against every educational and moral principle in our society.

“Management of GES wishes to extend our sincerest apology to H.E. the President and the general public on behalf of the students and school.

  • Police arrest two civilians; one posing as police officer in viral video

The Police have arrested two individuals seen in a viral video, with one wearing a black attire with police insignia.

The person seen in the attire, Marcus Dankwah, is not a police officer and is currently in custody together with his accomplice, Pascal Nelson.

According to the police, a search conducted on them led to the recovery of the attire.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the said video footage, which originated from a TikTok account identified as the official page of Vzonetv and shared on various social media platforms, was taken on October 18, 2022.

The investigation by the police also revealed the suspects are social media content providers who produce videos for their online TV channel Vzonetv.

“As the investigation continues to establish the source of the attire and prepare the suspects to face justice, we would like to caution the public against acts that tend to injure the reputation of the Ghana Police Service.”

  • 6 vehicles crash in gory accident at Airport Hills

At least six vehicles reportedly crashed in an accident at Airport Hills, a suburb of Accra, on Thursday, October 19, 2022.

A viral video sighted by GhanaWeb showed the crashed vehicles, including a dump truck (articulated truck), a commercial transport (‘trotro’), and at least three private vehicles, including a KIA Picanto, scattered all over the Airport Hills road.

One of the witnesses could be heard saying in the video that at least six cars were involved in the accident.

“About six cars were involved in the accident. Some of the vehicles are over there,” he said in the Twi dialect.

In the video, the KIA Picanto was seen to have crashed into another private car.

The dump truck had also pushed a four-wheel drive off of the road. Parts of the ‘trotro’ were also completely dented.

Some people at the scene can also be seen crying even though there is no report of injuries or deaths.

Reports indicate that the accident happened because the brakes of the dump truck failed.

The Ghana Police Service is yet to comment on the accident.

  • Man climbs high-tension pole at Kasoa over hardship in Ghana

A middle-aged-looking Ghanaian man has reportedly climbed a high-tension pole at Kasoa, a community in the Central Region.

His decision was to protest the current economic hardship in the country, eyewitness accounts said.

In a viral video, which was sighted by GhanaWeb, the man was seen quickly climbing the high-tension pole as bystanders made many pleas in attempts to get him down.

Also in the video, a vehicle of the Ghana Police Service could be seen, creating the impression that the police officers were on the scene to help get the man off the pole before he endangered his life even more.

A journalist, Kwaku Asante, who shared the video on Twitter, said that the man climbed the pole because he was fed up with life.

“A man has climbed the high tension poles in Kasoa and, according to eyewitnesses, says he won’t come down despite the police on site. He says he’s tired of life and the economy,” Asante tweeted.

An onlooker, with a Nigerian accent, was also heard running commentary in the background of the video, saying that a Ghanaian man is had climbed the pole because of the hardships in the country.

“The police are around to rescue this Ghana man who says he is tired of life. They should let him get to the top,” the man said in Pidgin English.

The Ghana Police Service has not commented on the incident yet.

  • We never authorized GTA to use Kirani Ayat’s video – Samsal Agency

The agency at the center of Kirani Ayat and the Ghana Tourism Authority, GTA, feud, Samsal, has denied ever granting permission to the Authority to use the promotional video it produced with some part of the musician’s video.

In a September 28, 2022 statement, the agency explained that it entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GTA to promote Digital Wrist Band – a wrist band that granted access to highly sought after events slated for the Christmas season – to tourists and foreigners.

Per the MoU, the agency said GTA was to give it the needed support in terms of finances and logistics in order to produce video content to market Ghana to the world in that regard.

Consequently, Samsal said it put together a video reel (mood board) for the GTA that included parts of Ayat’s ‘GUDA’ video to demonstrate the vision it had for videos it intended to subsequently create for the campaign.

It stated emphatically that it did grant GTA the permission to share the mood board whiles also categorically denying that the video put out by the Authority and president was not the very one it had created.

“We put together a video reel (“mood board”) which we showed to the GTA as inspiration and creative direction for the videos we intended to produce during the campaign. The mood board was a mash up of scenes from different videos, including the video for Ayat’s “GUDA”, and other videos shot by David Nicol-Sey, a fellow creative who we have worked on several campaigns with (and who directed the campaign video for Discovery Bands).

“For the avoidance of doubt, the video which the President and the GTA have put in circulation is not the mood board we created. It contains snippets from the mood board. However, we never authorized the GTA to publish the mood board or sense from it. The signed MoU was explicit that our delivery obligations related to new content which would be financed by the GTA,” part of the statement read.

The Agency further revealed that following the failure of GTA to deliver on its financial obligation as agreed upon under the MoU, it used it own funds to create a video to promote Discovery Bands.

It stated that even though it submitted it to GTA, the Authority is yet to publish its works which it said contained ‘lovely scenes from Ghana’.

The agency maintained that it was therefore taken aback when it sighted the ‘repurposed’ publication of the earlier mood board it created on various platforms.

“Unfortunately, the GTA did not finance the creation of any work as agreed. Using our own funds, we created our own video (see enclosed) to promote Discovery Bands and submitted same to GTA. The GTA has not posted the Discovery Bands video (which also depicts lovely scenes from Ghana and which we worked with David Nicol-Sey to shoot) nor has it fulfilled any of its content financing obligations under our MoU.

“It, therefore, came as a surprise to us when we noticed that content from the mood board has been repurposed and put into circulation instead of the GTA fulling its obligations under the MoU by providing us with logistics and budgetary support for the creation of similar content to market Ghana,” the statement said.

The revelation by Samsal contradicts the stance of the Ghana Tourism Authority which claimed earlier during the brewing copyright saga that it legitimately acquired permission from an agency [later named Samsal] for the use of the promotional video which featured portions of Ayat’s ‘GUDA’ video.

It will be recalled that Kirani Ayat took to Twitter to express his displeasure at the use of his works without permission.

He was reacting to a tourism promotion video that was posted on President Akufo-Addo’s Twitter handle.

“The president of Ghana has used my video “GUDA” in this ad to promote Ghana. I was actively reaching out to the Ministry of Tourism in 2018/19 to use this video to push tourism in the North and got NO reply, yet today it’s in an ad and no one reached out to me for permission,” Kirani Ayat tweeted.

  • Releasing Aisha Huang’s alleged sex tapes will be a crime – Charles Bissue

It will be a crime for Aisha Huang to release video footages of her sexual encounters with Ghanaian officials.

That’s the reaction of former Secretary to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining, Charles Bissue on the return of the Chinese businesswoman who is currently facing criminal charges of mining in Ghana without a license.

There are doubts that government would proceed with the prosecution of the case due to reports that the Chinese woman controls a powerful cartel that is blackmailing Ghanaian ministers of state and high ranking state officials.

Meanwhile, Editor of the New Crusading Guide, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has disclosed that Aisha Huang, nicknamed ‘galamsey queen’ has a series of recorded sex videos involving persons serving in the incumbent and previous administrations.

Reacting to fears that Aisha Huang may resort to releasing the videos as a trump card to evade prosecution, Charles Bissue argued that it will go against her if she does that.

“Whatever sex video she has with people, were they with underage children? No, he answered while adding that it might be “consensual” and that “she in the first place videoing that is a crime… whatever sex that happened the person was not raped,” he explained.

Mr. Charles Bissue further recounted how there were attempts to blackmail him during his tenure as Secretary to the Inter-Ministerial Committee to shelve some investigative reports at his outfit, a proposal he declined.

  • Adorable video of African boy singing with powerful voice goes viral

A boy has left many netizens with their mouths wide open after showcasing his talent in singing.

In the video which has since gone viral, the unknown boy is heard singing perfectly in Swahili, something that not many people can have the courage to do.

The video was first shared on Facebook by Inooro FM presenter Jeff Kuria who hailed the boy for his talent.

In his caption, the presenter said that Kenyan singers were the country’s pride.

“Our musicians our pride. Let us not emulate the Pharisees,” he wrote.

Looking at the video background, it is clear that the boy is from a humble background as the house he was sitting in front of is made of mud and his clothes are dirty.

He sang the song Tusifanane Wafarisayo (let’s not be like Pharisees) deep from his heart.

From the comments, many said the young boy appeared to be an SDA as most of them are trained to sing at a young age.

Others requested the presenter to trace him saying his voice and talent should be nurtured.

According to one Oladehinde Gabriel Aremu, the young boy should get a producer who will be able to showcase his talent.

Oh my God! What a good and beautiful voice, that child does not belong to that village or environment, he immediately needs good music producers that can showcase him. May God transform his life and makes his voice heard all over the world in Jesus name,” read his comment.

  • Video of a young man operating an ATM with a long stick amid coronavirus goes viral

Gradually the coronavirus which has been declared by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a global pandemic is now dictating what we should do currently in an effort not to be infected.

As the saying goes “necessity is the mother of invention”, a young man has invented a new style by which one can use an ATM without catching the deadly coronavirus.

Not risking anything, the young man refused to use his hands to touch the ATM. While many would have used a pair of gloves the guy had none and thus had to operate the machine without touching.

In a video sighted, the guy who wore a t-shirt and cap could be seen punching the keypad with the stick as others stood back in a queue waiting for their turn.

A lady who likely took the video could be heard laughing at the sight of the guy using the stick to operate the machine.

It is not known exactly where the video is from as they were speaking English but the video has gained traction on social media.
