  • Nursing mothers expose their children to danger at registration centres

Nursing mothers who carry their babies to the voter registration centres without any form of protection, are exposing their children to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, chairman of the Afigya-Kwabre South constituency who made the observation, said it was sad to see nursing mothers in the queues wearing nose masks, but having their babies without any form of protection.

He said if care was not taken, more children would be infected by the virus after the exercise.

Odeneho Appiah, who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Kodie after touring some registration centres in the constituency, said it would be important for nursing mothers to either leave their children in the house and go to register or find appropriate protection for them at the registration centres.

He said children were more vulnerable and exposing them in overcrowded areas could be dangerous, especially, where people were refusing to observe social distancing in the registration centres.

Odeneho Appiah commended the Electoral Commission (EC) for instituting appropriate measures at the various registration centres to ensure the safety of registrants.

He, however, said it would be very helpful if the EC would give nursing mothers a priority in the registration centres to enable them to leave the centres early to avoid endangering their babies.

Odeneho Appiah also appealed to the people to adhere strictly to all the preventive protocols at the centres to stay safe after the registration exercise.

Voter registration is currently underway in 14 centres in Afigya-Kwabre South constituency in the first phase of the exercise being conducted by the EC to provide identity cards of voters in the upcoming December general elections.

  • Just keep quiet and obey the Supreme Court ruling – Kokofu to NDC

Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Iron and Steel Development Company, Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu has warned members of the NDC to keep quiet now that the Supreme Court has ruled over their case against the Electoral Commission on the new voters’ registration exercise.

He said members of the NDC must stay mute since they’re participating in the
    registration exercise.

However, he said they can also decide to refrain from it.

During a panel discussion on UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ political discussion show, the former Bantama MP asked members of the opposition NDC to note in their dictionaries that, “nothing can save them from losing the 2020 elections, therefore they should calm themselves down and follow the processes laid by government”.

He reiterated that the first gentleman of the land, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and members of his administration will never have the intention of preventing qualified voters from exercising their franchise.

Supreme Court unanimously dismisses NDC’s case

The Supreme Court has unanimously dismissed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) case against the Electoral Commission to compile a new voters register for the 2020 general elections

The 7-member panel presided over by Chief Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah, in its decision held that the EC is an independent body and will only be directed by the court if it acts contrary to law.

The seven-member panel that heard the case included Justices Jones Dotse, Paul Baffoe Bonnie, Sule Gbagegbe, Samuel K. Marful-Sau, Nene Amegatcher, and Professor Ashie Kotey.

It would be recalled that two groups, the opposition NDC and a Private citizen Mark Takyi-Banson filed the case asking the apex court to stop the EC from compiling the register or allow the use of the birth certificate and voters ID card by prospective voters as proof of identification.

  • Voters registration: Guarantors will not be desenfranchised; EC clarifies

The Electoral Commission (EC) has denied the allegation that individuals who guarantee for 10 people will be disenfranchised.

The Commission in a press statement signed and issued by the Acting Director of Public Affairs, Mrs Sylvia Annor said persons who guarantee for more than 10 people are the ones who will be prosecuted as it was going to reflect in the system.

“However, any individual who guarantees for more than ten persons will be picked up by our system and prosecuted”, the statement emphasised.

The statement comes after an audio that was circulating on social media suggested that persons who guarantee for up to ten people “will not be verified on election day”.

A man who gave his name as Mckenzie in the audio was heard saying “When you guarantee for ten people, the system will not verify you on election day. Please take note, the system will not verify you on election day so, even within the NPP the information really credible is that they are guaranteeing for only eight people.”

But the EC in reaction has urged the public to disregard the information because it is not rooted in the Constitutional Instrument (C.I). which states that guarantors can guarantee for up to ten people.

“We call on the general public to be circumspect and disregard false information which is not rooted in our Laws and C.I.’s, the Commission urged.

There was a disagreement between the party in power, New Patriotic Party (NPP) and opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of whether or not the use of the existing voters’ ID Card should be allowed in the new registration.

  • We commend delegates who invoked curses against bussing of registrants Kwame Zu

The Ashanti regional secretary of the National Democratic Congress Kwame Zu. has indicated that the party will encourage anyone who takes any action, including invoking curses to ensure that the right things are done.

Mr Zu made the assertion, commenting on the conduct of some members of the party who invoked curses of the Drobonso River deity against any persons who bussed anyone to the Sekyere Afram Plains constituency to partake in the registration for the new voters register.

He told this reporter, the NDC guards the constituency sternly as it forms one of its three seats in all the 47 constituencies in the Ashanti region aside Ejura-Sekyedumase and Asawase.

The NDC delegates who took to the rivers in Drobonso to invoke curses made reference to an accident that claimed the lives of some students who were ostensibly bussed to partake in registrations in that constituency and dared the governing NPP to take any action of the sort.

Mr Zu contended, “I do not know any party member who has gone to curse anybody but what I do know is that there are precedents in this region where certain things have been done wrongly in times past and if precedents are guiding people and if indigenes and residents have found the need to protect themselves and ensure that the right things are done, they should be encouraged.”

He stressed: “When people insist that the right things should be done and things should be done appropriately, you and I have the responsibility to encourage them that they insist that the right things are done.”

Mr Zu also alleged that per some intelligence the party is picking, the New Patriotic Party in the region is also scheming to offset its majority votes in Asawase by mobilizing people from Bantama and its adjoining constituencies, to register in Asawase.

  • Low turnout for voter registration in Tumu

There was a low turnout in the first day of the registration of prospective voters in the Sissala East Municipality for the December elections.

A visit by the Ghana News Agency in Tumu to three centers showed a slow start of the process.

As at 0825 hrs the Tumu Traditional Council where the Tumu Secondary Technical polling station had been mounted, nine people had registered and given their cards.

At the GPRTU polling station, as at 0905 hrs, only 12 persons had registered while 13 persons had registered successfully as at 0940 hrs at the Central Ahmadiyya Mosque in the heart of Tumu.

The few people waiting to go through the process attributed the slow turnout to farming activities in the area.

They said “the exercise is proceeding smoothly even though registrants complained of the slow pace of the process” and expressed hope that by the close of the day, they would achieve daily target.

Others at the Ahmadiyya Central Mosque said the process was also slow with low attendance, a phenomenon the PNC Parliamentary candidate for Sissala East constituency, Mr Kingsley Kanton noted, “so far peaceful but slow and blamed it on the farming season where many people are sowing whilst others are looking for tractors to plough their fields”.

It was also observed that the COVID-19 protocols were duly observed, as veronica buckets and liquid soap were made available for persons to wash their hands before joining the social distancing queue.

The temperature of all persons were taken before having access to the registration centre.

Party agents of NDC, NPP and the PNC were also noticed.

According to Starr New Faisel Abdul-Iddrisu, the residents are jostling over positions in the queue.

The Ketu South Constituency has a total of 254 polling stations but only few are undertaking the exercise on Day 1 and phase 1 of the exercise. As results, residents out of anxiety are massing up at nearby centres to register.

At the Akusa Park, there is a Veronica bucket and health officials deployed to screen the applicants but adherence to the social distancing protocol is poor as the electoral officials struggle to control the enthusiastic crowd.

So far, only 8 people have been able to go through the process since the commencement of the exercise delayed.

There is no security presence at the Akusa Park registration centre, the situation is same at the Global Church and the Old Timber, except for the Old Timber market registration center where there was one police officer.

Ketu South has become topical in the build of the registration exercise after reports military deployment to the area. The area is seen as the stronghold of the opposition NDC.

Aside the visible security vehicles that are parked in front of the premises, there are police personnel at every point from the gate to the final entry point, where the presser is being held, to ensure that uninvited persons are turned away.

Even for persons who are allowed entry, they have to undergo thorough checks by these police personnel to ensure individuals are clear to proceed.

  • Military in Ketu municipality will not participate in registration exercise – MCE

The government has justified reasons why it has deployed heavy military presence to the Ketu Municipality in the Volta region.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Elliot Edem Agbenorwu, reacting to concerns raised over the security presence stated emphatically that the military is not in the area to cause fear or panic.

The move, according to him is meant to enforce the closure of the border and not to intimidate anyone as speculated by residents and the opposition NDC.

Ketu Municipality he lamented has been identified as a hot spot for coronavirus and the cases recorded are all foreigners hence the move to have the military men in the area to enforce the border closure.

Speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, he said that human trafficking and other crimes across the border were still rampant, in spite of the closure of the border.

The military he added will not partake in the voter registration exercise hence Ghanaians should treat with competent claims that the government has deployed the military to intimidate residents in the region.

He said the military men are just 27 and stressed, ”take it from me as the MCE and the Chairman of the Security Council that the military is not in the area to participate in the registration exercise. The military will not be near any registration centre”.

He also asked Ghanaians to ignore comments from Asokwa MP KT Hammond, who has claimed the military has been sent to the area to prevent Tohgolese from registring.

He stressed, the military will not participate in the registration exercise, they will not be seen at any of the registration centres. They will enforce the closure of our border.

Residents in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta region have raised concern over the deployment some heavily armed security personnel into the area.

The security contingent which includes the military and officials of the Ghana Immigration Service has been deployed into some communities along the Ghana-Togo boarder such as Wudoaba, Korpeyia and Anoenu since Monday 22, June.

According to residents, the presence of the security personnel is intimidating and puts them in fear, preventing them from going about their daily activities with comfort.

But the MCE has asked them not to panic or fear because the military men are not there to intimidate anyone.

He asked residents to report any form, of abuse and intimidation on the part of the military should it happen.

  • Heavy military presence in Ketu South to enforce border closure

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Yao Letsa has explained that the heavy presence of armed personnel of the military and other security agencies in the Ketu South Municipality is meant to enforce the closure of the border.

According to him the number of personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) at the borders was now inadequate to enforce the closure effectively, for which reason other security agencies were assisting to enforce of the closure.

Dr Letsa said this at a press conference in Ho on Friday to react to public concerns over the trend, stressing that “Since the closure of the frontier a few months ago to prevent the spread of COVID-19, some lawless people still crossed in and out of Ghana with impunity, using unapproved routes.”

He said that the recent claims by the Volta Regional Chairman of the NDC, Mr Henry K. Ametefee that the government had declared war on the Volta Region, and for that matter, the Ewe people, was unfortunate and totally untrue.

“The Volta Region is an integral part of Ghana and so, how can the government declare war on its own people,” the regional minister sought to know.

  • NDC Vs EC: Atik Mohammed rejoice over Supreme Court ruling

PNC Stalwart, Atik Mohammed has expressed utter joy over the Supreme Court ruling on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) suit against the Electoral Commission (EC) to compile a new voters’ register for the 2020 elections.

A 7-member panel presided over by Chief Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah, by a unanimous decision, dismissed the NDC case and held that the EC is an independent body and will only be directed by the court if it acts contrary to law.

The seven-member panel that heard the case included Justices Jones Dotse, Paul Baffoe Bonnie, Sule Gbagegbe, Samuel K. Marful-Sau, Nene Amegatcher, and Professor Ashie Kotey.

    Thursday Ruling

The Supreme Court on Thursday, June 25, 2020 delivered its verdict on whether or not the EC decision to exclude the existing voter ID card as one of the identification documents for registration during the upcoming voters’ registration exercise is constitutional.

The Supreme Court granted only two reliefs sought by the NDC which had nothing to do with the inclusion of an existing voter ID card as source documents and dismissed all the other reliefs.

The Apex Court further ordered that the compilation of the new register should be in compliance with C.I 126 which backs the EC to accept only the Ghana card and passport for the exercise.

    Atik Mohammed Thanks Supreme Court

Speaking on ‘Kokrokoo’ on Peace FM, Atik Mohammed was exceptionally happy that the Apex Court has given the EC the green light to conduct the registration exercise.

He therefore urged all Ghanaians of eligible voting age to participate in the exercise.

“All Ghanaians should prepare themselves, on the 30th of June, we’re going to register our names,” he stressed.

  • Existing voter ID unacceptable for new EC registration

The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) will compile a new voter register without accepting the existing ID cards, 3news.com can confirm.

This was contained in the judgement delivered by the Supreme Court on Thursday, June 25.

There was confusion following the judgement as the plaintiff, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), claimed that its relief to stop the EC from rejecting the existing voter ID cards has been granted.

Its General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, told journalists at the forecourt of the Supreme Court that his party feels “vindicated” by the judgement.

But same document sighted by 3news.com indicated that the Supreme Court was unanimous in its decision to dismiss all but one relief of the NDC.

The EC has thus been asked to compile the new register as per the constitutional instrument (CI) 126.

The Commission has already conducted a pilot exercise of the registration and indicated its “satisfaction” with it.

It has scheduled to start the nationwide exercise on Tuesday, June 30 and end on Thursday, August 6.

  • Supreme Court dismisses IMANI et al application in NDC vrs EC case

The Supreme Court has thrown out an application filed by four civil society organisations to be friends of the suit filed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) and the Attorney General.

The CSOs IMANI Africa, Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA), Institute for Liberty and Policy Innovation and Conservative Policy Research Center had served notice to volunteer relevant information to the court in what is often referred to as amicus brief in law.

But the EC on Tuesday, June 23 prayed the Court to dismiss the application by the CSOs, arguing the public utterances of the CSOs on the matter is a clear indication that “they are not disinterested in the outcome of the case”, and can thus not file an amicus brief.

On Wednesday, the Court unanimously threw out the application, saying it has no place in law.

“The need for an amicus brief is not supported by law,” President of the panel, Justice Kwasi Anin Yeboah, who is also the Chief Justice, said.

“We have therefore dismissed the application for the CSOs on the amicus brief.”

The amicus brief, according to the EC, was sought by the CSOs “to seek leave of the court to point to the court some decision, whether reported or unreported or some point of law which appeared not to have been canvassed by the litigating parties or to bring for the benefit of the court some special expertise relating to the matter before it”.

By this decision, the Court can decide on the date on which to give judgement on the substantive case.

  • EC conducts pilot registration exercise

The Electoral Commission, on Thursday, June 18, 2020, organized a pilot exercise at the Ridge Church premises in Accra.

The one-day exercise was meant to afford stakeholders the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the new biometric kits as well as the safety protocols rolled out by the Commission, among others.

The EC says it wishes to deal with issues emanating from the exercise before the commencement of the actual exercise which begins on June 30, 2020 and ends on August 6, 2020.

The process involved the checking of temperature and joining the two-metre marked queue as well as the observation of the safety protocols announced by to Ghana Health Service and the Ministry of Health.

The biometric details of applicants, including fingerprints, pictures and facial details were captured before the cards were finally given to each applicant.

  • Just delete the 1m unqualified names, no need for new voters register – Kwesi Pratt to EC boss

Seasoned journalist, Kwesi Pratt is unconvinced about the reasons given by EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa, to support the compilation of a new voters’ register.

The Electoral Commission has argued there are some defects in the current register which render it invalid for the 2020 general elections.

The Commission has therefore scheduled Tuesday, June 30, 2020 to begin a mass registration exercise aimed at compiling a new voters’ register.

The exercise which demands participants to use only the Ghana card and passport to register their names, according to the EC, will help expunge all unqualified names from the register.

To expound on the significance of the new register, Madam Jean Mensa reportedly revealed that there are 1 million ghost names and names of unqualified people in the current register which needs to be cleared.

Addressing the issue on ‘Kokrokoo’ on Peace FM, Mr. Pratt questioned the logic of the EC Chairperson to compile a new register when she has just disclosed the number of people that should be deleted from the register.

According to him, if Madam Jean Mensa knows there are 1 million ineligible names in the current register, then why the need to conduct a new voters’ registration exercise.

“So, she knows the 1 million people on the register; just take them off. If you know 1 million names in the register, how does that become reason for compiling a new voters’ register because all you have to do is to take the names off and we have a clean register,” he stressed.

  • NDC petition before Supreme Court can invalidate EC’s registration exercise – Kwesi Pratt

Seasoned journalist, Kwesi Pratt Jnr has said the decision by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to abandon one of the reliefs in their legal case at the Supreme Court regarding the EC’s mass registration exercise doesn’t mean the Commission can compile a new voters register.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has slated the registration exercise for Tuesday, June 30, 2020, despite oppositions.

The exercise is scheduled to last for 38 days.

Prior to the announcement of the date of the registration exercise, the NDC rank and file had challenged the Commission’s constitutional mandate to hold the mass registration exercise and compile a new voters register, at the Supreme Court.

The party also seeks declaration on the constitutionality of the EC to exclude the voters ID card as part of the identification requirements for the exercise.

The NDC, however, dropped their case on whether or not the EC should conduct the exercise but their petition on the exclusion of the voters’ ID card still holds before the law court.

Some political critics believe the NDC’s decision to go for their relief on the voters ID card while they drop their case on the registration exercise supports the EC’s decision to compile a new voters’ register.

But Kwesi Pratt thinks differently as he told host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’ that the NDC’s petition at the Supreme Court can invalidate the EC’s new voters registration exercise, albeit it is the Supreme Court ruling that will determine the outcome.

“If the Supreme Court rules that the old registration form is a valid document for entering onto a register, it means that you’re not compiling a new register. You’ll be reviewing the register,” he said.

  • Mass registration for Ghana Card to continue in the Eastern Region

The mass registration exercise for the Ghana Card in the Eastern Region is to resume on Thursday, June 18, 2020, and end on Saturday, June 27, 2020.

The exercise was halted on March 21, 2020, due to measures rolled out to contain the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in the country.

A statement by the National Identification Authority (NIA), the body in charge of the exercise, however, said the issuance of cards which began on Wednesday, June 10, 2020, at 5,635 registration centres nationwide is set to continue till Thursday, June 18, 2020.

According to the NIA, nearly 800,000 Ghanaians have received the Ghana card since the re-commencement of the exercise last Wednesday and about 3,934,073 more who could not receive theirs during the mass registration could do so.

“By the end of the exercise on 18th June 2020, over 11 million Ghanaians will possess the Ghana Card which they may use for social, economic and political purposes”, the statement stated.

The authority has also urged all individuals who have registered but have not received their Cards to go to their registration centres to pick up their cards.

    Things needed for the pick-up

According to the authority, one was expected to present the application form, the printout or a receipt that was given at the time of registration or provide relevant information to be cross-checked against his/her photograph and personal details contained in a Registration Centre Album.

Originally the Authority had insisted one would need biometric verification to pick up the card, however that requirement has been shelved without any explanation.

Persons with concerns about the card issuance process may contact NIA on Whatsapp number, 0205044793 or call 0302-738-333 and 0242438615.

“I recognize that my failure to seek your prior approval was a grievous omission even though it was completely unintended.

“I regret, very deeply, any harm that may have been caused to your personal and professional being by this omission on my part.

“For this reason, I apologise unreservedly for the error.”

  • New voters’ register: What has changed? – Kwamena Duncan quizzes Mahama

Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan has questioned why former President John Mahama changed his stand regarding the non-interference in the work of the Electoral Commission.

The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is quoted to have asked political parties to give the Electoral Commission (EC) the peace to do its work.

He asked those having issues to use the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) for redress.

In 2015, then President Mahama waded into the controversy surrounding the call for a new voters’ register, saying the Electoral Commission is at liberty to decide what is best for the country inched close to the 2016 election.

This was after pro-opposition pressure group, Let My Vote Count Alliance and the main opposition NPP vehemently called for a new register ahead of the elections, with the NPP petitioning UK parliamentarians over the matter.

“I have no right to interfere in that electoral list.”

“….We have an independent Electoral Commission and the Electoral Commissioners have security of office. I am not supposed to interfere in the work of the electoral commission. Ghana has an EC that is independent and does not consult the president to do anything.”

“What we have done in the past when you have a young register is to clean it up…so it is for the Electoral Commission to decide what it really needs to do,” the President noted at an event in France.

Then on 14th November 2016, at an NDC political rally, he indicated that; “being an election year, I will appeal to all political parties and other civil society organisations to give the Electoral Commission the peace of mind to do its work. Our Constitution says that the Electoral Commission shall not be subjected to the direction of or control of any person and that includes me.”

Contributing to a panel discussion on Peace FM morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Kwamena Duncan said the former President was right to say the EC had all the right to do its work “and so what has changed”?

“He was quite eloquent on this. He was right to say the EC should be allowed to do its work so what has changed….now what we are hearing is I will kill you and so on; who are you?” he charged.

  • New Voters’ Register: Don’t register your names – Nana B appeals to NDC

Nana Boakye, National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has appealed to members and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) not to participate in the new voters’ register by Electoral Commission (EC).

The registration exercise will begin in the last week of June 2020.

The EC piloted the exercise on 2nd and 3rd June to test their machines and also assess the process in order to prevent any mishaps during the main exercise.

Although the EC has justified its decision to conduct the exercise aimed at compiling a new voters’ register, the NDC has raised red flag over the exercise.

The opposition party has dragged the EC to the Supreme Court praying the court to direct the Commission to act according to the constitution because, to the party, the Commission’s decision for a new voters’ register contravenes its constitutional mandate.

The NDC has also accused the EC of trying to rig the 2020 elections.

Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s ”Kokrokoo”, Nana Boakye, popularly called Nana B asked the opposition party to stop fighting so hard against the EC and just abstain from the exercise.

”I want the Electoral Commission to commence the process but I plead with the NDC members and supporters not to register their names. Don’t write your names. I have started mobilizing our youth. We’re going to register in our millions. And if you think you are a man with strong muscles, just come to the polling station where the youth are registering their names and cause commotion, and you will taste the wrath of the security forces. It’s a legitimate exercise. It’s by law and they don’t break any laws,” he said.

  • Registration exercise: Nobody will die in Ghana – Charles Owusu rubbishes incendiary comments

‘Nobody will die in this country’, Charles Owusu rubbishes the seditious comments by PNC National Chairman Bernard Mornah and other politicians.

The Head of the Monitoring Unit of the Forestry Commission, Charles Owusu, says neither the Electoral Commission’s registration exercise or general elections is a do or die affair for any person to lose his or her life for a candidate.

According to him, elections are an opportunity for Ghanaian eligible electorates to exercise their voting rights not for them to pick up arms for war.

”Nobody will die in this country. Just because of a registration, people should die; never! It’s a joke. Nobody should pay attention to it. There are laws in this country. No person can take the laws into their hands and do anything in this countr,” he charged.

    Inflammatory Comments/CID Arrest

Charles Owusu’s comment comes on the heels of inflammatory remarks by Bernard Mornah and Major Osahene Boakye Gyan (rtd) who have been invited by the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service.

Bernard Mornah is said to have threatened the Electoral Commission saying ”people who are already Ghanaians and already registered are going to be taken out of the register, don’t you think confusion will come at the registration and if confusion come there, you think the EC staff will be safe, we will beat each other there, we will kill each other there if that is what the EC want to lead this nation to”.

Major Osahene Boakye Gyan (rtd), on the other hand, challenged the EC’s decision to use only the Ghana card and passport for the new voters’ registration exercise, and cautioned by pointing out that most electoral disputes in Africa have resulted in civil wars and Ghana is not immune to it, and further warned that “should the EC continue to toe the line of their paymasters, it will certainly spell doom for this country.”

“… it is political motivation that led to the dismissal of Madam Jean Mensah as the EC Chairperson by the current administration. They want to beef up the numbers so they can win simply because they don’t have confidence in their winning numbers, otherwise, they won’t tamper with it…But more importantly…post-independence Africa, all crises and civil wars have been on the back of disputed electoral results. What they are doing now, they are driving us into a civil war and if they want it, they will get it,” he screamed.

    Why Should People Die?

Speaking on Peace FM’s ”Kokrokoo”, Mr Owusu who is also an aide to the Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission, rebuked these political figures and warned others to refrain from making comments that seek to beat ”war drums” in the country.

”Sometimes, what is sad is when a person who has had the opportunity to lead this nation in various capacities, whether serving as a Minister, Chief Executive or any leader wishes doom for this country, forgetting that it is through this nation that they became prominent. In fact, what happens when we conclude the voting process? Someone will become President and so what? What really happens that is so extraordinary that a person must die before somebody becomes President in this country? We can’t preside over anything, you can’t rule over nothing apart from people. We are here because of others…So, if you are going to rule over people, then why should the people die before you become a ruler?” he questioned.
