Three men detained on suspicion of murder after man gets lost in river

After a man allegedly fell into a river and vanished, three individuals were detained on murder suspicion.

When a man told police that his companion, a man in his 20s, had fallen down an embankment and into the River Wye in Hereford, the police initiated a search operation.

However, police now think that the missing man was involved in a fight before the early-morning Saturday incident near Victoria Bridge.

The arrests have been disclosed to his family.

The man hasn’t been located despite the best efforts of fire personnel, paramedics, specially trained police search officers, and a police aircraft.

Along the riverside, a police perimeter and scene guard are still in place.

According to police, searches will probably last for a while with expert assistance.

Detective Chief Inspector Tony Garner, the senior investigating officer, stated: “Teams have searched the river again today, but regrettably have not been successful in locating the missing individual.

The arrests have been disclosed to his family.

“While our investigations are still in their early stages, we have now detained three persons on suspicion of murder in response to new information that the missing guy was involved in a fight.

They are currently being held by the police while we continue to look into the events that may have led up to the moment the man is thought to have entered the river.

“If anyone has any information that could help with our investigations, we urge them to get in touch with us. The information they provide could be crucial in putting the pieces of this tragic incident together.”

The Hereford city centre was the scene of an incident late last night, and West Mercia Police is asking any witnesses who may have seen it to come forward.

After a three-year-old was struck by a car, police are looking for witnesses.

This morning at 8:30 am, a collision occurred on Castlefields Way in Telford, Shropshire, not far from the intersection with Willow Bank.

Life-threatening injuries were sustained by the child, who was transferred to Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

The wrecked vehicle was a white Vauxhall Corsa.

An individual, age 26, has been detained and is supporting the police with their investigations.

PC Mark Hobden, from West Mercia Police, said: ‘We are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the collision.

‘We would especially like to speak to the cars that were behind the white Vauxhall Corsa at the time of the collision.

‘We would urge them to come forward with any information and dash cam footage. Anyone with CCTV covering the area is also urged to come forward.’

It comes after a girl, 8, died when a car crashed into a school building in Wimbledon, south-west London.

A Land Rover collided with a wall at The Study Preparatory School on Camp Road shortly before 10am, and 16 people were injured.

Pilot killed in hot air balloon disaster identified

Early on Sunday morning, Peter Gregory was declared dead after his hot air balloon caught fire above a village in Worcestershire.

People have paid tribute to the 25-year-old who passed away “doing what he loved.”

His family wrote in a statement sent by West Mercia Police: “Peter Gregory, 25 years of living life to the fullest.

‘Our Pilot Pete made one more trip on the morning of Sunday, June 25, doing what he loved.

‘Be it in a hot air balloon or as an airline pilot, Peter’s passion for flying was something his family and friends could only admire and support him towards.

‘When he set his heart to something, he’d never give up, he was driven and determined, and one could only watch on in awe.

‘We will fly together again soon Pete. We love you, Dan, Mummy, Daddy & Emma.’

Mr Gregory’s death is being investigated by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB).

Emergency services attended Holt Fleet Road in Ombersley after receiving a call that a hot air balloon had fallen to the ground near the village.

The British Balloon and Airship Club (BBAC) said it was aware of the incident.

‘The AAIB have been informed and supported by the BBAC, will be investigating the circumstances,’ a statement said.

‘Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those involved at this time.’
