  • Nigerian netizens call out Stonebwoy for allegedly shading Wizkid

Ghana’s Dancehall musician Stonebwoy was in Doha, Qatar to make the nation proud as the only artiste from the West African state to have performed at the FIFA Fan Festival at the ongoing 2022 World Cup.

Stonebwoy on December 16, took to his Instagram Stories to share photos and videos from his meet-up with Nigerian singer, Davido.

The two expressed great joy and were also captured jamming to their 2020 collaboration, ‘Activate’.

Stonebwoy’s appreciation message to Davido, condemned unnecessary pride and ego, a move some Nigerians on social media have termed a jab at Wizkid who recently released his fifth studio album titled ‘More Love, Less Ego’.

Stonebwoy’s harmless caption read: “We see what we see… But we know what we feel. Positivity Reality & LOVE alone lives here… fire burn Ego And Unnecessary Pride @davido × @stonebwoy.”

The singer who is winning big for Ghana on the world stage is yet to respond to the allegations or clarified his true intention.

Meanwhile, Davido will feature at the closing ceremony of the 2022 World Cup in the match between defending champions France and Argentina on Sunday, December 18 at the Lusail Stadium.

The Afrobeats singer, together with Trinidad Cardona and AISHA, were featured on the official 2022 World Cup soundtrack titled Hayya Hayya (Better Together).

  • Be wise! – Arnold fires Nana Aba and ‘cheerleaders’ who defended Wizkid

Ghanaian broadcaster, Nana Aba Anamoah was among the few personalities who rose to the defense of Nigerian singer Wizkid when he failed to show up at his concert at the Accra Sports Stadium on December 10.

Nana Aba in a series of tweets blamed Live Hub, organizers of ‘Wizkid Live in Ghana’ which has now been described as a flopped event.

In a tweet dated December 11, she wrote: “Wizkid is a huge star. He has standards for his concerts. If you can’t meet those standards, forget. I feel bad for all the fans that turned up. The organisers failed you.”

Entertainment journalist, Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo in an article titled ‘The ‘Wizkid Event’ Fiasco: Who Is To Blame?’ condemned Nana Aba Anamoah’s unbiased defense of the Nigerian Afrobeat musician.

According to Arnold, the broadcaster’s statement was disappointing considering her expertise as a media executive who has equally organized events in Ghana.

Terming persons who rose to the defense of Wizkid as cheerleaders, Arnold added that the narrative could have been different should it have been a Ghanaian artiste who stood up fans at the Accra Sports Stadium on that faithful Saturday.

Read parts of Arnold’s article below:

    Here Comes the Cheerleaders

Led by Media Executive and broadcast journalist, Nana Aba Anamoah, there were a few personalities who refused to blame Wizkid for such an eventuality and were quick to lay all blame on the organizers. Incredulously, the likes of Ms. Anamoah are also event planners and command that knowledge and comprehension in what goes into putting events together.

The blatant disregard for patrons and the speed to lay all blame on Live Hub, especially from a personality like Ms. Anamoah was disappointing. With such influence and respect, she could have done better.

If it were a Ghanaian artiste who was involved in such a debacle, these cheerleaders would not have even remembered the names of the event planners, but for Wizkid, they are quick to yelp and point out who the event planners are and offer unwanted explanations on exactly what ought should have been.

The likes of Ms. Anamoah, who are Media Executives, need to give more respect to these planners and when something goes awry, it is only germane for such people to exercise restraint in offering analysis and judgment. It is these same events people that offer businesses to the likes of Nana Aba and other media houses.

Be wise, apply tact, and exhibit decorum!

  • Fella Makafui trolled after attempting to break the internet in a skimpy dress

Ghanaian actress and socialite, Fella Makafui seems to be doing a lot just to stay in the news!

And her recent exploit is to create buzz on social media by how she dresses.

Recently, Fella Makafui caused a stir after she stormed the botched Wizkid Live Concern almost n#ked.

Fella Makafui turned up for the recent Wizkid Concert in transparent leggings with her nyash on show.

Other people claim they even saw her pantie liner.

The controversial media personality stirred massive reactions on social media following that and yet, Fella Makafui is doing more to trend.

In a new video that has surfaced on social media, Fella Makafui is seen in an explosive body-hugging dress.

The dress has a strange appeal with the inscription on it – the dress creates mental imagery of an n#ked Fella as seen inside.

Social media users have again reacted and they say Fella Makafui has lost her firm breast.

  • We noticed Wizkid was dull during rehearsals – Organizers

Organizers of the famous ‘Wizkid Live’ concert have provided further clarification on what ensued behind closed doors following the Nigerian singer’s failure to perform at the event.

The concert was expected to go down in history as one of the ‘lit’ events in Accra this year but things went sour for fans and patrons who thronged the Accra Stadium to party hard with Wizkid at the much-anticipated concert last Saturday, as he failed to perform.

In a statement to clear the doubts and thoughts of patrons who have been disappointed by the development, the event company shared their side of the story and how they did everything humanly possible to cushion Wizkid but to no avail.

In a series of concerns spotted in their statement, Live Hub Entertainment, the organizers of the concert said,

“We spoke with Jada throughout, and nothing was indicated, Wizkid was there for sound check although we noticed he was dull during the rehearsals. We never anticipated this to happen.”

They however shot down claims that the Nigerian singer was not assigned adequate security.

“Wizkid and his team were given an additional 15 bodyguards and security personnel, for their personal assured safety. 4 were attached to Wizkid specifically and the 11 were assigned to his team,” parts of their statement read.

Touching on claims that Wizkid failed to perform because the concert wasn’t ‘sold out’, they added.

“We heard that it was because of numbers but there was nowhere in the contract he signed that he would only perform when the stadium was full. We had about 15,000 attend the event.”

  • This is how much Wizkid charged for his show in Ghana

Wizkid, a Nigerian singer, was paid a large sum for the show in Accra but did not appear.

The ‘Essense’ hitmaker who is known for charging huge amounts for his shows ensured that the organizers of the ‘Wizkid Live In Accra’ settled him in full.

Wizkid also ensured that his accommodation, plane tickets and other logistics were taken care of.

In fact, he also insisted on other peripheral artists being paid in full before they mounted the stage.

Ghanaian entertainment pundit, Arnold Asamoah Baido has revealed, in a social media post, that Wizkid was paid $8000,000 for the Accra show.

He was also paid $25,000 as travel allowances.

    Travel Allowance – US$ 25,000

    Plus:

    -Performance fee for supporting acts

    – Venue

    – Logistics

    – Ticketing

    – Promotion/Marketing albeit lacklustre

Results: lukewarm project, bad press, ruined reputation and possibility of refund.

Question: Would you, as an investor, give this venture another try if you had the chance?

There’s a piece for every player and all the cheerleaders; it’s coming!

  • Wizkid couldn’t fill Accra stadium, don’t bother our artistes with 02 Arena – Bullgod

Artiste manager, Bullgod has asked critics to cut Ghanaian artistes some slack now that Nigerian singer, Wizkid, has proven that he cannot fill up the Accra Sports Stadium.

He said the usual slamming of Ghanaian artistes for not being able to organize sold-out international concerts at some much-rated venues such as the 02 Arena, Madison Square, and so on has to end.

This according to him, is because Afrobeats superstar, Wizkid, who has conquered all these venues, particularly the 02 Arena which has a 20,000 sitting capacity, could not pull the crowd needed to fill the 40,000 Accra Sports Stadium.

His comments are in reaction to reports that Wizkid did not show up on stage at the Accra Sports Stadium concert where he was billed as the headliner.

Following the development, social media went agog with a series of criticisms from disgruntled patrons who waited for 12 hours just to watch Wizkid perform.

    But sharing his thoughts on the ongoing subject during a discussion on Hitz FM, Bullgod said;

“Now that Wizkid has proven successfully that he cannot fill the stadium, nobody should worry our artistes about filling 02 Arena. He also wasn’t able to fill here. Make dem no come worry anybody. We dey bg. Forget the 02 Arena, Madison Square, and let them come and try the Accra Sports Stadium. Then we can have a conversation.”

He however eulogized International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) founder, Rev. Mensah Otabil, for being the only one who has so far been able to fill the Accra Sports Stadium with his usual 31-watch night service dubbed “Crossover”.

“Otabil is still on our chat. The only person to do it.”

  • Checkout Shatta Wale’s reaction after Wizkid disappointed Ghanaians

Over the weekend, Ghanaians who had spent exorbitant amounts of money to purchase tickets for a Wizkid show in Accra had a rude awakening after the singer failed to make an appearance.

Disappointed patrons waited at the Accra sports stadium from late Saturday all the way to the early hours of Sunday to no avail – Wizkid refused to arrive and perform.

Other Ghanaian artistes such as King Promise and R2Bees also followed Big Wiz’s lead.

Per reports, Wizkid was not happy with the attendance and production quality of the show and thus decided to swerve fans.

He later did the same in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, but managed to fulfil his obligations in Cotonou, Benin.

Wizkid has released a statement apologising to Ghanaians, claiming he would never compromise on some things for his shows and promising refunds.

Following the incident, one Ghanaian artiste who would have been over the moon would be Shatta Wale.

Wale has warned against Ghanaians neglecting our own artistes for Nigerians and Wizkid showing Ghanaians pepper appears to vindicate him in a way.

Whilst Wale has yet to explicitly react to the incident, Efia Odo claims she knows he’s laughing in happiness somewhere.

“Shattawale is somewhere laughing his a** offfffff😂,” Efia Odo wrote on Twitter in the wake of the scandal.

Knowing Shatta Wale – you can’t disagree!

  • My record at the Accra Sports Stadium is yet to be broken – Sonnie Badu

Amidst the Wizkid -Accra Sports Stadium fiasco which has become a trending topic across Africa, UK-based Ghanaian Gospel musician Sonnie Badu has shared a throwback video of his first major concert in Ghana held at the same venue.

    In a post shared on his Instagram, Sonnie Badu wrote;

“ACCRA SPORTS STADIUM was one of my most emotional concerts ever… It RAINED throughout the entire concert, but no one was willing to leave… The crowd pushed and took over the concert… One day we will break our own records again”.

Responding to a fan who believed Sonnie Badu was chasing clout for sharing his video amidst the Wizkid fiasco, Sonnie Badu responded by saying, “lol even if I never do again, the record is still yet to be broken, let’s learn to appreciate hard work .. don’t worry I will do it again…”

Held in November 2014, the concert dubbed Africa Worships With Sonnie Badu saw huge numbers showing up for the event despite a heavy downpour that last for almost 2 hours.

The Ghanaian dance hall act was sharing his mind on the brouhaha around Wizkid’s Accra Sports Stadium show. The Nigerian music was booked to perform at an event by Live Hub Entertainment, however, he did not show up.

Whilst the conversation is ongoing, a video of Shatta Wale speaking about artistes filling the stadium has surfaced. In the video he said “As someone with experience, I said that Ghana here, nobody has done that kind of show“.

Unless it’s a political rally, if it’s not NPP or NDC or maybe Pastor Mensah Otabil or Pastor Chris, I am telling you people something, write it down, or Duncan Williams, or Bishop Agyin Asare, or maybe it’s Kotoko and Hearts, we have never had a show like that at the stadium where you can see that the place is filled up for one artiste,” he added.

Speaking about how music shows are done in the stadium, he explained that “every time we fill one side. Sometimes if you go to ask they tell you that the authorities don’t want it that way because they don’t want the theft to destroyed“.

In the video below, Shatta Wale added he therefore makes sure he enters agreement with the show promoters before accepting shows at the stadium.

  • Wizkid misses another concert in Abidjan after failing to perform in Accra

Nigerian singer, Wizkid, has reportedly abandoned a show in the Ivorian capital Abidjan after a similar incident in Accra on Saturday, December 10.

According to sources, he was scheduled to perform in Benin and Cote D’Ivoire on December 11, 2022, in two different countries. Wizkid however performed in Benin but failed to make it to Abidjan.

But multiple media reports in Ivory Coast confirmed the Abidjan incident in a tweet.

“Expected in Accra on Saturday for a concert, the Nigerian artiste @wizkidayo never showed up. Sunday in Abidjan, he was conspicuously absent from another show, but he was seen tonight in Cotonou, Benin, where he landed on a private jet shortly before midnight,” LSI Africa tweeted late Sunday.

Wizkid has earned a bad reputation among many fans, particularly in the African continent, because of a similar incident that occurred in Ghana a few hours prior to this. It is said that this is the second time he has failed to appear for events in Abidjan for which he was fully paid.

Photos of Wizkid, King Promise, and others aboard a private jet has been shared widely on social media.

This comes barely 48 hours after the singer apologised for missing the Wizkid Live concert which took place at the Accra Sports Stadium on December 10.

  • Bridget Otoo goes ‘hard’ on Wizkid for failing to attend his concert in Ghana

Popular Ghanaian journalist, Bridget Otto, has waded into the ongoing discussion about the failure of Wizkid to attend a concert that was put together for him by Live Hub Entertainment in Accra on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The award-winning Nigerian musician failed to make an appearance at the show despite the huge publicity for the show and his tweets indicating that he would be there.

His failure to be at the show got many of the fans disappointed and infuriated because they got the tickets that were selling at high prices just to see the ‘Essence’ hitmaker.

Amid the reactions on social media, the Metro TV news anchor took to her Twitter page to state that the musician did not treat the fans and the people who got the tickets just to see him perform right.

According to her, the current economic crisis the country is battling makes it more inhumane for an artist to stand up people who paid over Ghc300 just to see them perform with the belief of getting some happiness.

‘The country is in a crisis, things are tough so when people save their 300/500 cedis for a concert just to be happy for a few hours, the least you can do is honour that, make them forget their problems even if it’s just for a few hours, don’t stress them out!#WizkidLiveAccra,’ she tweeted.

He added that what some artiste refer to as filling stadiums is usually half or quarter of the stadium.

  • Disappointed patrons ‘crucify’ Wizkid for abandoning a ‘huge’ concert in Accra

After 12 hours of waiting for Wizkid, the headliner of a just-ended concert that took place at the Accra Sports Stadium, patrons appear enraged about the fact that the Nigerian singer failed to show up on stage.

The over 5,000 patrons gathered at the Accra Sports Stadium were left in shock and disappointment at 4 am on December 11, 2022, when the technical team began dissembling some of the equipment on stage at the ‘Wizkid live’ music concert without addressing the crowd, who were left in confusion.

As they waited indefinitely for Wizkid to mount the stage since 4pm the previous day, the atmosphere was filled with bitterness and rage from the audience who either requested a refund or insisted on witnessing the ‘Starboy’ on stage before they leave.

Several performances were witnessed from the likes of Gyakie, Efya, Darkovibes and so on, except the man of the moment.

It was reported that when Wizkid’s official Disc Jockey, ‘DJ Tunez’, took over the stage with some live band tunes, expectations went high and the mood was energized as many thought the ‘Essence’ hitmaker was next.

But, as the live band mixes began to take longer than expected, the crowd’s enthusiasm began to die down and yet still, the organizers failed to offer proper communication to inform them about WizKid’s development.

It was said that the crowd was left in limbo until about 3:47am when Wizkid’s official DJ, screamed twice ‘the promoter fucked up’ over Black Sherif’s “Kwaku the Traveller,” and that was when the crowd got the memo.

Rumours were rife that Wizkid was unsatisfied with the attendance and the fact that it could destroy his ‘Sold out king’ track record, hence his absence.

Shortly after that, rumours that Wizkid wouldn’t be performing due to the ‘below standard’ attendance began circulating on social media and patrons began trooping out of the stadium whiles venting their hearts out.

However, Wizkid is yet to either issue a statement, post an update or an apology on any of his social media platforms regarding his absence at the concert.

During Wizkid’s performance, DJ Tunez, played Davido’s 2011 smash hit song “Dami Duro” to the admiration of the crowd.

The gesture charged up fans as they clapped and danced to show appreciation to Wizkid for the rare gesture.

In videos making rounds on the Internet, the DJ said, “Davido we love you, OBO, we love you. I see you Davido. This one is for OBO.”

The act is understood to be a message of support to Davido and Chioma over the recent loss of their son, Ifeanyi who drowned and died in the pool back in October at the family’s residence in Lagos State.

Wizkid and Davido kindled reconciliation rumors some months ago after the two had what we could call one of the Nigerian music industry’s biggest beef.

Although the reason for their strained relationship remained unknown, it can be traced as far back as 2011, during their startup days in the industry.

Meanwhile Davido and his fiancée Chioma Rowland are yet to respond to their son’s death.

He has, however, canceled his Are We African Yet (A.W.A.Y) concert which was slated to hold in November 2022.

The event has been rescheduled for November 2023.

  • Afrobeats gets a place on America Music Awards

The American Music Awards (AMAs) has introduced a category dedicated to recognising Afrobeats.

The new category is called ‘Favourite Afrobeats Artist’.

It is the first award in a major US award show dedicated to recognising African artistes that have transcended the African borders with the now globally recognised genre.

Fans of Afrobeats artistes can vote for their favourite stars who have been nominated. Unfortunately, for the category’s debut, no Ghanaian act was nominated.

The nominees for the 2022 AMA ‘Favourite Afrobeats Artist’ are; Burna Boy, CKay, Fireboy DML, Tems, and Wizkid.

Tems has another nomination in the ‘Collaboration of the Year’ category for her collab on Wait For U with Future and Drake.

Meanwhile, Afrobeats is not the only music genre to have a spot in the AMAs.

The K-Pop genre also landed a category. The category is named ‘Favourite K-Pop Artist’. Fans of K-Pop also now have the chance to vote for their favourite artiste or group.

Afrobeats gets a place on America Music Awards

The K-Pop artists nominated are Blackpink, BTS, Seventeen, Tomorrow X Together and Twice.

BTS is also nominated in the ‘Favourite Pop Duo or Group category.’

This comes weeks after calls for The Recording Academy, organisers of Grammy, to add Afribeats as a category to the awards scheme.

In September, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of The Recording Academy said there is a possibility the event will in the near future have a category for Afrobeats.

Speaking to the media on his arrival in Ghana, Harvey Mason Jr, noted that The Recording Academy recently had a meeting with leaders of the Afrobeats community including producers, songwriters, executives and others to learn more about the genre – and will continue to do so.

“We just talked about what are the different sub-genres (of Afrobeats), the needs, the desires, and my goal is to represent all genres of music including Afrobeats at the Grammys, but it has to be done properly,” Mr Mason said.

Meanwhile, in March 2022, Billboard created the U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart – a standard record chart ranking the 50 most popular Afrobeats songs in the United States weekly.

  • Why are powerful Pastors not at the treatment centres healing COVID-19 patients Wizkid asks

Nigerian Music icon, Wizkid has asked why Nigerian Pastors who claim to be powerful have all coiled and not at treatment centres healing people like they used to do prior to COVID-19.

Some members of society in Ghana and across the globe have noted with concern the utter silence of leading Pastor, Prophets and other religious personalities in the wake of COVID-19.

To them, Pastors who were all over the place healing people from all kinds of ailments including HIV/AIDS should have been playing key roles in healing COVID-19 patients so it relief government some stress that it has had to go through but that has not been the case.

The latest to add his voice to the concerns is WizKid.

In a tweet, he asked where Pastors are in all these.

He said “I never see any naija pastor go isolation heal anybody from covid lol”.

In recent times people have questioned whether truly some Men of God who claimed to be powerful are really powerful as they claim or they just employ some antics in siphoning cash from their congregants. In Ghana, a Member of Parliament has taken it upon himself to name and shame Pastors he deems as fake and has over the weeks been naming and shaming them with their evil deeds.

  • Jada P reveals reason why Wizkid named their child “Zion”

Names they say, have effect on people. According to our elders in society, names play major roles in the life of human being since it has the tendency to uplift a person or reduce a person to nothing.

In biblical times, God had to change the names of Abraham, Sarah, Jacob, Simon, Naomi, Saul, Joseph, Daniel, Esther, Nebuchadnezzer among others before they could enjoy his blessings.

The story of Jabez affirms the fact that names have impact on people. Jabez was named by his mother because, according to her, she gave birth to him in pain and that made him suffer all his life until he cried unto God to change his name.

It just goes to show that even if we give such names to our children with the best of intentions, it may not immune them from the possible negative influence of their meanings on them.

This and many more are the reasons why Wizkid and Jada P named their adorable son, “Zion”. Jada explains in biblical terms, the names promised land while in the Rastafarian culture, it means an utopia or heaven on earth.
