I wans’t happy details of his movement were known to the public – Wode Maya on IShowSpeed’s visit to Ghana

Popular Ghanaian YouTuber and digital storyteller Wode Maya has shed light on what truly happened behind the scenes during IShowSpeed’s widely discussed trip to Ghana.

In an interview with Bola Ray on GHOne TV, he said the viral clips circulating online captured only a fraction of the full experience.

Wode Maya explained that the visit came with major logistical challenges, noting that problems began shortly after they arrived in Akropong. Within minutes, a massive crowd had formed, effectively bringing the area to a halt. He said the sudden influx of people made it difficult to control movement and maintain their plans.

He admitted to being particularly disappointed that details of IShowSpeed’s itinerary had circulated prematurely.

“I wasn’t happy that information about his movements got out early,” he said, explaining that the leaks undermined several carefully planned surprises. Some of the streamer’s ideas were designed to shock and delight audiences, but once the public already knew what to expect, the impact was lost. As a result, a number of activities had to be called off.

It has emerged that American streamer and YouTuber IShowSpeed could not visit all the places arranged for is tour in Ghana.

In an interview on Okay FM on January 27, 2026, the deputy CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Abeiku Santana, said IShowSpeed was supposed to visit five (5) more places before ending his tour in Ghana.

Unfortunately, limited time and the large crowds following him altered the plan.

“He was supposed to see Reggie Rockstone and go to the Despite Automobile Museum. However, how things worked out yesterday, he couldn’t visit some of the planned places. Republic Bar, Osu Night Market, Goldbod Jewellery, etc. They were all part of the itinerary, but he couldn’t visit them all,” he said.

Ghana attracted global attention on January 26, 2026, following the arrival of international streamer and content creator Daren Jason Watkins, popularly known as IShowSpeed, as part of his tour of the African continent.

During the visit, the content creator travelled to Akropong in the Eastern Region, where traditional authorities received him with an Akan naming ceremony.

The ceremony exposed the streamer to traditional cultural practices, after which he was given the local name Barima Kofi Akuffo.

Following the naming rite, IShowSpeed boarded a private helicopter that transported him from Akropong to Burma Camp in Accra before proceeding to the Independence Square for scheduled activities.

The brief helicopter journey from Akropong to Accra became the most tracked flight globally on Flightradar24.

Reports indicate that flight 9GAFW AS50 ranked first on the platform on January 26, 2026, with more than 3,000 people monitoring the flight while following the livestream.

The visit, which generated significant public interest, featured several activities, including car stunt displays, a massage session at the shea butter museum, an interaction with the daughter of Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah, a boxing experience in Bukom, a backflip at Black Star Square, and a visit to the Asenema Waterfall.

If you want this tightened further or adjusted to match a news release style, I can refine it

When American livestreamer iShowSpeed announced plans for an African tour, early reactions from his online audience pointed to Ghana as one of the safest destinations on the continent.

By January 25, 2026, the streamer arrived in Ghana after visiting several other African countries.

The visit has sparked debate over the tangible image or economic benefits Ghana stands to gain and whether the impact is mutually beneficial or largely one-sided.

At face value, the question appears reasonable, particularly around why the arrival of a 21-year-old American streamer has generated significant public interest.

Understanding the scale of his influence provides some clarity. iShowSpeed has more than 50 million subscribers on YouTube, a figure that surpasses Ghana’s population of just over 30 million.

In effect, his digital reach exceeds the total number of people living in the country.

His livestreams often attract more than 200,000 concurrent viewers, with previous broadcasts recording even higher peaks.

This level of exposure mirrors the audience size governments typically pursue through expensive tourism campaigns, cultural diplomacy, and international branding efforts.

The tour also challenges traditional tourism promotion models. A single content creator with global reach can achieve in weeks what formal strategies may take years to deliver.

Unlike state-led marketing campaigns, his streams are not packaged as advertisements, making them appear spontaneous and authentic to viewers.

Although Speed holds no official tourism ambassador role, his content has shaped perceptions in ways comparable to structured national branding efforts.

His core audience consists largely of Gen Z viewers, mostly under the age of 26, who represent the next generation of tourists, investors, and cultural consumers.

Reaching this demographic early positions Ghana for long-term relevance rather than short-term visibility.

By contrast, many traditional tourism campaigns across the continent have historically targeted older audiences.

Early signs of impact are already evident elsewhere on the continent. In Benin, Speed’s visit delivered visibility that would normally require significant tourism expenditure.

Footage from his livestreams also sparked conversations on Ghanaian social media, with users drawing comparisons between Benin’s development and Ghana’s.

This demonstrates how digital perception can shift in real time through livestreaming rather than brochures or promotional videos.

For Ghana, the implications extend beyond the immediate visit. A young viewer outside Africa watching Speed experience Ghana live — engaging with local culture, food, and people — may carry that familiarity for years.

When that viewer eventually has the means to travel, Ghana is likely to remain a recognisable option.

This is how long-term tourism interest is built, extending beyond present gains to future returns.

The longevity of digital content further amplifies the impact, as Speed’s videos remain searchable long after his departure.

Short-form clips will continue circulating on social media, news organisations will reference the visit, and other creators will react or remix the content.

Increased cultural visibility often coincides with rising interest from the African diaspora and potential investors.

The broader question, therefore, is not why Ghana should pay attention to a young streamer, but whether the country can afford to overlook such digital influence.

In an era where soft power is increasingly shaped online, influence no longer rests solely with governments, advertisers, or diplomats.

At times, it belongs to a single creator with a camera, an internet connection, and millions watching.

US court jails YouTuber who staged plane crash for six months

A YouTuber known for his daredevil stunts, who intentionally crashed his plane to generate more views for his channel and subsequently lied to investigators, has been sentenced to six months in jail after striking a plea deal, as announced by US authorities on Monday.

The event, captured in a video titled “I crashed my airplane,” shows Trevor Jacob encountering apparent engine trouble while flying over southern California in November 2021.

The dramatic footage, widely viewed on YouTube, depicts Jacob ejecting from the single-engine plane with a selfie stick in hand, parachuting into the dense vegetation of Los Padres National Forest.

Cameras on the aircraft document its uncontrolled descent and eventual crash landing in the forest. Following the crash, Jacob, a former Olympic snowboarder, films himself hiking to the wreckage, expressing dismay at the vanished water supply but ensuring the recovery of the footage.

Subsequently, investigations by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) were initiated. Jacob, however, misled officials, claiming ignorance about the crash site location despite being ordered to preserve the wreckage.

The plea deal resulted in a six-month jail sentence for the YouTuber, highlighting the consequences of his deceptive actions.

“In fact, on December 10, 2021, Jacob and a friend flew by helicopter to the wreckage site,” the US District Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California said Monday. “There, Jacob used straps to secure the wreckage, which the helicopter lifted and carried to Rancho Sisquoc in Santa Barbara County, where it was loaded onto a trailer attached to Jacob’s pickup truck.”

In an attempt to conceal evidence of the crash, the wreckage of the single-engine plane was dismantled into smaller fragments and disposed of in trash bins in and around Lompoc City Airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), responsible for regulating aviation in the United States, revoked Jacob’s pilot’s license in April 2022.

Facing increasing scrutiny from investigators, Jacob entered into a plea deal, acknowledging guilt for one count of destruction and concealment with the intent to obstruct a federal investigation.

This agreement reflects the legal consequences arising from his actions in attempting to hide evidence related to the intentional plane crash.

“Jacob lied to federal investigators when he submitted an aircraft accident incident report that falsely indicated that the aircraft experienced a full loss of power,” the US District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.

“[Jacob] most likely committed this offence to generate social media and news coverage for himself and to obtain financial gain,” federal prosecutors said.

“Nevertheless, this type of ‘daredevil’ conduct cannot be tolerated.” Jacob’s original video, along with several others he posted after the escapade, have now been removed from YouTube, but a copy can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41iOvFuKsyY

Pilots and aviation experts have expressed significant criticism towards Jacob in the nearly two years since the video’s initial release. Numerous experts have highlighted Jacob’s failure to undertake basic measures to restart the seemingly troubled engine of his plane.

Critics have also emphasised that Jacob had the option to safely glide the aircraft to a landing spot, raising questions about the necessity of ejecting from the plane.

Furthermore, wearing a parachute during the operation of a small aircraft was deemed highly unusual by industry professionals, prompting additional scrutiny of Jacob’s

The aviation community’s assessments underscore concerns about safety protocols and decision-making in the context of Jacob’s actions.

Exposed: YouTuber’s devious plan to boost views – Crashing a plane for profit!

A YouTuber’s insatiable thirst for views has landed him in hot water, as he faces charges for lying about intentionally crashing a plane.

Trevor Jacob, known for sharing his adventures and life lessons with his 138,000 subscribers, has agreed to plead guilty to one count of destruction and concealment with the intent to obstruct a federal investigation, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California.

The stunt, which was part of a sponsorship deal for a company that sells wallets, was titled “I Crashed My Airplane,” and was uploaded to Jacob’s channel on Christmas Eve 2021.

The 13-minute video shows him flying a small aircraft equipped with multiple cameras, which appears to suffer a mechanical failure over California’s Los Padres National Forest.

Jacob jumps out and deploys a parachute, while the plane crashes, unmanned.

However, it turns out that the crash was not an accident, but a deliberate act planned to generate views and revenue.

Jacob had packed a parachute and a selfie stick, and had allegedly planned all along to film himself jumping from the plane and get footage of the crash.

He then went to great lengths to cover up the truth, lying to investigators and even destroying the wreckage.

The consequences for Jacob are severe, as he faces a maximum sentence of about 20 years in prison for his crime.

In addition, his pilot license has been revoked, putting an end to his aerial adventures.

Don’t cheat on your partner if you are broke – Ghanaian YouTuber

A Ghanaian show host and YouTuber, Ms. Enny, has stated that men should not cheat on their partners if they are financially handicapped.

Speaking with guests on her YouTube channel, the lady claimed that if she was dating a poor man and he cheated, she would break up with him because she finds it insulting.

According to her, it is terrible enough that he doesn’t bring home enough money and what’s worse is that he spends it on another woman.

She made a suggestion that if a man was rich, women would be more understanding and forgiving of a cheating spouse.

Another guest on the show shared the same assertion.

In a similar vein, a Nigerian Twitter influencer, BOD, advised men against dating women who are incapable of providing financial support in times of need.

He argued that it would be pointless for a man to be in a relationship with a woman who cannot assist him during trying times.

    His post which was shared on Twitter hours ago reads; @bod_republic wrote;

“Dating a lady who cannot help you financially when you’re broke is a total waste of time.”

Several news portals reported on Thursday, February 23, 2023, that Wode Maya, Ghana’s most influential YouTuber account worth over one million subscribers has been hacked.

A google search on his over one million subscribers channel reveals that it has been taken over by a hacker called “Microstrategy.”

    All videos have been deleted from the channel, leaving it blank. See the screenshot below;

Consequently, the channel has been completely empty since all of the videos were removed

When it happens like this, trust Realest Blogger of GHBase.Com fame to dig deeper to unravel every secret.

In a twist to the development, Wode Maya has temporarily sold his active YouTube account to “Microstrategy”, the purported hacker.

In this case, Microstrategy, a well-known bitcoin company, is using Wode Maya’s YouTube account to host their one-week program which has made them hide all the videos in Wode Maya’s account.

Therefore, Wode Maya will get his account back in a week’s time with all his videos intact. So, the truth is that Wode Maya temporarily sold his YouTube account to Microstrategy for huge cash.

Popular YouTuber Wode Maya’s account hacked

Popular Youtuber Wode Maya, till the evening of February 23, 2023 had a booming YouTube channel with over 1.2 million followers and over 900 uploads.

He is reputed as one of the continent’s biggest YouTubers sharing cross-continental content aimed at putting out a positive aspect of Africa and Africans within the continent.

Then the hackers alleged to be cryptocurrency hackers struck and took over the page.

His page first went blank and the name changed from “Wode Maya” to “Microstrategy.”

Before long, it was confirmed with the unusual activity on the channel that it had actually been hacked.

The new owners started multiple live streaming with the aim of soliciting for funds in a crypto currency scheme. At GhanaWeb’s last check, there were five such streams running concurrently.

Meanwhile, all of Wode Maya’s videos had gone off the page even though the page information remained intact – page created in 2013 with over 193 million views.

A robust social media campaign started almost immediately with people especially on Twitter tagging YouTube and YouTube Support to help Wode Maya to reclaim his account.

After some hours, it turned out that the channel had been taken down entirely. All previous links when clicked return a message: “Video Unavailable. This video is private.”

Also, the page when searched on YouTube also returns zero result.

The vlogger, real name Berthold Winkler, has yet to publicly comment on the development.

  • SpaceX moon flight to include DJ, YouTuber and K-pop rapper

A commercial DJ, K-pop rapper, and a space YouTuber are to go on a trip around the Moon, after they were picked by a Japanese billionaire for a private SpaceX flight.

Businessman Yusaku Maezawa revealed his crew on Friday after a global search for creative individuals last year.

American DJ Steve Aoki and Korean star TOP are the most high-profile picks.

The flight, scheduled for next year, could be the first lunar journey by humans since 1972.

The proposed fly-by would see a spacecraft circle the moon, coming within 200km (124 miles) of the surface. The trip would take eight days from launch to return.

However, US regulators are yet to give permission for the Starship rocket from Elon Musk’s SpaceX company that the crew is supposed to travel on.

The ship has not even been approved for an orbital journey around the Earth and has been grounded for the past 18 months in Texas, after it completed a test launch in May 2021.

But Mr Maezawa made no mention of this delay in his video announcing the crew for the mission he’s dubbed dearMoon.

The opening scene shows Mr Maezawa in a Japanese garden looking up at the moon. It then cuts to show the first crew member – DJ Aoki – at one of his shows.

“I can’t miss this opportunity. My soul is begging for this,” the Billboard-charting artist says in the video.

The next passenger revealed is Youtuber Tim Dodd – also known as the Everyday Astronaut- who has 1.4 million followers online for his educational videos on spaceflight and astrophysics.

In his own video released on Friday the vlogger said he couldn’t believe he’d been selected. He added that SpaceX’s announcement in 2017 that it would send a civilian to the moon was “ironically, or poetically… actually what got me started making videos on Youtube.”

The other announced dearMoon mission members are:

    • TOP (Choi Seung hyun), a K-pop rapper and former lead of boyband Big Bang (South Korea)
    • Dancer and choreographer Yemi A.D (Czech Republic)
    • Photographer Rhiannon Adam (Ireland)
    • Wildlife photographer Karim Iliya (UK)
    • Filmmaker Brendan Hall (US)
    • Actor Dev Joshi (India)

US Olympic snowboarder Kaitlyn Farrington and Japanese dancer Miyu were named as back-ups.

“I hope each and every one will recognise the responsibility that comes with leaving the Earth, travelling to the moon and back,” Mr Maezawa said.

“They will gain a lot from this experience and I hope they will use that to contribute to the planet, to humanity.”

Mr Maezawa, who made his fortune in online fashion retailer Zozo, has become prominently involved in commercial space travel. Last year he went to the International Space Station on a Russian rocket for 12 days.

In 2018, he was named as the first private passenger due to be flown around the moon by SpaceX and said he would sponsor the cost of eight other passengers on board.

The price Mr Maezawa agreed to pay for his ticket to space has not been disclosed, but according to Mr Musk it was “a lot of money”.

In 2020, he also launched a documentary search for a new girlfriend to join him on his moon voyage, before cancelling due to “mixed feelings”.
