Zanetor Rawlings, 2 other Ghanaian MPs sworn in as members of Pan African Parliament

Three Members of Ghana’s Parliament have been sworn in as members of Ghana’s delegation to the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), marking the country’s renewed commitment to continental legislative dialogue and integration.

Majority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor; Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle, Dr Zanator Agyeman Rawlings; and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adiagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, who doubles as Minority Chief Whip, were officially sworn in on Wednesday, July 30th, when they took the oath of office during the fifth Ordinary Session of the Sixth Parliament of the Pan-African Parliament held in Midrand, South Africa.

PAP President Chief Fortune Charumbira and all protocols of the continental body presided over the swearing-in ceremony. The delegation were accompanied by Inusah Mohammed and Edith Adjei as Schedule and Assistant Schedule Officers respectively. The MPs will now join their counterparts from across the African Union (AU).

On the sidelines of the ongoing 5th Ordinary Session of the 6th Parliament, the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) has signed three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Afrobarometer, the Network of African National Human Rights Institutions (NANHRI), and the Southern Africa Parliamentarians Network Against Corruption (SAPNAC). The agreements were formalised on 29 July 2025. The agreement with NANHRI seeks to integrate human rights considerations into legislative processes, establish joint governance monitoring frameworks, and promote a culture of constitutionalism and the rule of law.

PAP has also pledged its full support for the ratification and domestication of the African Union (AU) Convention on the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls. The treaty adopted by the AU Assembly in February 2025, has been hailed as a turning point in the continent’s decades-long struggle to end gender-based violence.

The Women’s Caucus also announced plans to develop a Model Law on Gender Equality and Equity aimed at harmonising legislative responses and eliminating all forms of gender-based violence, including political and online abuse.

The Pan-African Parliament was established in March 2004, by Article 17 of the Constitutive Act of the African Union, as one of the nine Organs provided for in the Treaty Establishing the African Economic Community signed in Abuja, Nigeria, in 1991. The Protocol establishing the PAP was ratified by 49 Member States.

The total number of Members of the PAP is 275. Article 4 of the Protocol establishing the PAP requires that each national Parliament be represented by five members, at least one of whom must be a woman. The representation of each member state must reflect the diversity of political opinions in each National Parliament or deliberative organ. According to Article 5 of the same Protocol, the Pan African Parliamentarians are elected or designated by the national Parliaments of the Member States.

The establishment of the Pan-African Parliament is informed by a vision to provide a common platform for African peoples and their grass-roots organizations to be more involved in discussions and decision-making on the problems and challenges facing the continent.

The seat of the Parliament is in Midrand, South Africa. The Pan-African Parliamentarians represent all the peoples of Africa. The aim of the Pan-African Parliament is to evolve into an institution with full legislative powers, whose members are elected by universal adult suffrage.

Meanwhile, Parliament has voted out Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin from Ghana’s delegation to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament. The Minority Caucus initially nominated Afenyo-Markin to represent them in the ECOWAS Parliament when they submitted their proposed delegation list for parliamentary approval ahead of the plenary session yesterday, Tuesday, July 22.

During a debate on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, July 22, the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, proposed that Afenyo-Markin be replaced by his deputy, who also doubles as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Asokwa Constituency, Patricia Appiagyei. This, he proposed, was based on the regional, political, and economic union founded on May 28, 1975, through the Treaty of Lagos’ gender quota ECOWAS gender quotas.

He said, “This decision aligns with long-standing parliamentary practice, which assigns ECOWAS parliamentary roles to Deputy Leaders of the House. It is not unusual, and it is certainly not a slight to any member.”

ECOWAS Gender Quotas aim to promote inclusive representation of women in governance and decision-making across West Africa. While not yet codified in a binding treaty, the ECOWAS Parliament and its Gender Development Centre (EGDC) have adopted a 30% minimum quota for female representation in national delegations to ECOWAS institutions, parliamentary committees and leadership roles, as well as Cabinet positions and public service appointments.

Afenyo-Markin’s replacement was met with fierce objection from the former Minister of Defence, Dominic Nitiwul. He contended that, though the decision is for Parliament to make, it is just a way for the Majority Caucus to force their decision on them, as it holds the numbers in the House.

“I know it is the decision of the House to do it, but it is not for Parliament, because the Majority has the majority, to force the decision of the Majority on the Minority about representation,” he said.

Afenyo-Markin is currently the Third Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament. However, his position is quite uncommon for the leaders of the respective caucuses (Minority, Majority) to be part of the country’s official delegation sent to the ECOWAS Parliament or the Pan-African Parliament.

They are rather led by the Deputy Majority and Deputy Minority Leaders. The new delegation is being constituted as part of preparations to travel to Abuja, Nigeria, to participate in preparatory meetings and committee engagements ahead of the Second Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Parliament, expected later in October or November 2025.

However, Patricia Appiagyei has formally declined her inclusion in Ghana’s reconstituted delegation to the ECOWAS Parliament. Madam Appiagyei, in a memorandum addressed to the Speaker of Parliament, noted that “there was an understanding by leadership that the Minority Leader would be on the ECOWAS Parliament delegation, as was communicated to the Committee of Selection,” hence “it is therefore deeply troubling that a contrary nomination was advanced on the floor without consultation.”

According to her, Mr Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who was elected last year, retains a valid and ongoing mandate under ECOWAS protocols, which grant members a four-year term. “A sitting member cannot be removed unless the member voluntarily resigns, is removed from office, appointed to the Executive or as a Judge, or otherwise becomes ineligible,” she added.

ECOWAS is a regional political and economic union set up on May 28, 1975, through the Treaty of Lagos. The purpose of the regional bloc was to promote economic integration, peace, and development among West African countries. Currently, the bloc has 12 active member states, including Benin, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo, and Guinea. Although Guinea remains suspended due to a military coup in 2021, it has not formally withdrawn from the bloc.

However, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger in January 2025 withdrew from the bloc. The three military-led countries released a joint statement accusing ECOWAS of betraying its founding principles and becoming a threat to member states and their populations.

  • Find MP who verbally abused Zanetor Rawlings latest by Feb 10 – Anlo Duko Council to Speaker

Find MP who verbally abused Zanetor Rawlings latest by Feb 10 – Anlo Duko Council to Speaker

The Anlo Duko Council has called on the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, to reveal the identity of the Member of Parliament who verbally attacked Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, MP for Klottey-Korle.

The traditional rulers have given a deadline of February 10, 2025, for the Speaker to respond to their request.

The incident, which took place during a parliamentary debate on the 60th anniversary of the passing of Joseph Boakye Danquah, quickly escalated into a heated political clash. The exchange intensified after Tamale Central MP, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, challenged the Minority’s tributes to Danquah, prompting Speaker Andrew Asiamah to limit contributions to only parliamentary leadership.

Despite the directive, tensions remained high, and when Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings attempted to contribute to the discussion, she was ignored by the Speaker. This led to further disruption in the chamber, culminating in a derogatory remark from an unidentified MP on the Minority side who allegedly called her the “daughter of a murderer.”

The comment sparked widespread outrage, particularly on social media, where many speculated that Damango MP, Abu Jinapor, was responsible. However, Jinapor and Bosome Freho MP, Nana Kwame Asafo-Adjei, who was also linked to the remark, have both denied making the statement.

Jinapor further stressed his deep respect for the late former President Jerry John Rawlings and his family, particularly Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings, rejecting any suggestion that he uttered the offensive words.

In a statement dated February 5, 2025, Togbi Sri III, Overlord of the Anlo Duko, alongside the chiefs and people of the Anlo Kingdom, condemned the incident and demanded accountability.

“The Anlo Dukor will be grateful if our request is granted and the said individual is identified on or before 10th of February, 2025,” the statement read. The Council emphasized its determination to uncover the identity of the MP responsible, stating that this would guide their next course of action.

The development has added pressure on Parliament to address the conduct of its members and ensure decorum within the legislative chamber.

Constituents’ turnout in special voting impressive – Zanetor Rawlings

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Korle Klottey, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has expressed satisfaction with the smooth progress of the ongoing special voting exercise.

In an interview with TV3, the MP highlighted that the exercise in her constituency is progressing seamlessly, without any incidents of violence or intimidation.

She praised the impressive turnout of constituents at the polling stations, emphasizing that it reflects a positive sign for Saturday.

While acknowledging allegations of vote-buying, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings expressed confidence that voters will make informed decisions.

“There has been a high turn out, voting started on time which is a good sign. I hope that on the 7th of December we will have people and everything in place so that voting actually starts on time as well. People came in early and I think it’s a good sign, people want the voting process to happen in a very smooth way. There has not been any intimidation, they have been allegations of some people attempting to influence with money,”she added.

Special voting is currently taking place at selected polling stations across Ghana, marking a significant step as the country prepares for the December 7 general elections.

This exercise is designed for key groups, including electoral officials, security personnel, and media representatives, to cast their votes ahead of time, ensuring they can perform their duties during the main election day without any disruptions.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has stated that approximately 131,478 people—representing 0.007% of the total registered electorate of 18,741,159—are expected to participate in the special voting on December 2.

Initially planned to be conducted nationwide across all 16 regions, the special voting schedule was disrupted after a leak of ballot papers and a breach of security seals in the Eastern and Western Regions. Consequently, the EC issued a directive to recall and reprint the affected ballots.

To safeguard the process’s integrity, the special voting in these two regions has been rescheduled for Thursday, December 5.

Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the EC, provided reassurances during an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting, emphasizing the Commission’s commitment to transparency and addressing any concerns to ensure a credible and fair election process.

The special voting stared at 7:00 a.m. and is expected to end at 5:00 p.m. at designated polling stations across the 14 remaining regions. Eligible voters must present valid identification to cast their ballots.

Unlike the general voting, the ballots cast in the special voting exercise will not be counted on the same day. Instead, they will be securely stored and counted on December 7 at the Constituency Collation Centers. The results will be separately recorded on Presidential and Parliamentary Election Results Collation Forms before being integrated into the final election results.

Zanetor Rawlings expresses worry over rising cases of robbery in Adabraka

Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, Zanetor Rawlings, has denounced the brazen daylight robbery that occurred on Saturday, November 2, at the Adabraka Market.

During the incident, four masked men armed with firearms attacked an individual in a red Toyota Corolla, making off with significant amounts of cash.

Local residents are still reeling from the shock, particularly after the robbers fired multiple gunshots into the air to disperse the crowd.

The assailants forcefully entered the Toyota, seizing large sacks of money stored inside the vehicle. Within moments, they loaded the bags into their getaway car and fled the scene, continuing to fire shots to deter onlookers.

This robbery echoes a similar incident that took place on Wednesday, August 24, 2023, when another audacious armed robbery occurred in the same area.

After visiting the crime scene, the MP expressed her concern over the prevalence of firearms in the hands of individuals who are instilling fear and panic among residents, particularly with general elections approaching.

“Unfortunately, this is the second time within the last four months something of this nature has happened, and it’s very worrying because, first of all, how are people having access to these types of weapons and having the courage to do this in the middle of the city?

We have elections in less than 36 days, so it raises concerns about the safety of constituents,” she noted.

She further called on the Ghana Police Service and the Ministries of Interior and National Security to protect citizens as the elections approach.

“I have engaged the police as I got here, but I believe this is something that has to be investigated at the highest level. It is not just about the police but also about the Minister of Interior and the Ministry of National Security because if you are looking at the types of weapons these individuals are carrying, it raises questions about the use of certain types of weapons in the system that are not legal.

She is, however, assuring residents to remain resolute as measures will be taken to minimise the growing menace.

“I intend to certainly pursue this because I am a Deputy Ranking Member on the Select Committee on Security and Intelligence, so I am going to use my position to see how we can address it,” she stated.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for the gang, assuring the general public that the perpetrators of the incident will be brought to book.

  • 2024 Elections: Know your worth, don’t allow yourself to be bought – Zanetor to NDC agents

2024 Elections: Know your worth, don’t allow yourself to be bought – Zanetor to NDC agents

Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has warned all National Democratic Congress (NDC) agents against accepting bribes to abandon their election monitoring duties, which could facilitate fraudulent activities.

She stressed the importance of the NDC securing a victory to safeguard Ghana’s democracy, emphasizing the necessity of protecting the ballot.

Agyeman-Rawlings criticized the Akufo-Addo administration as a failure and accused the government of “blatant corruption.”

“Corruption has been rampant under this government,” she stated during the NDC’s 2024 campaign launch in Tamale on Saturday, July 27.

“Today we promise John Mahama that we will set the bar high with zero tolerance with respect to corruption. The people of Ghana hold NDC to the highest standards

“We must hold onto principles that can’t be bought with money, we must make sure none of our agents is be bought,” she said.

“Let’s protect the ballot boxes., do not allow yourself to be misled by the money people will bring your way,” she said.

Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), asserted that the 2024 general election will bring about a change in government.

He believes that Ghanaians will vote out the New Patriotic Party (NPP) due to the “incompetent Akufo-Addo administration.”

“Change is coming, are you ready for change,” he said during the campaign launch of the NDC in Tamale on Saturday, July 27.

“The victory of the NDC is coming again,” he stressed.

The campaign Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Professor Joshua Alabi also expressed optimism that Ghanaians will vote for the NDC in this year’s elections.
He says that the people are wide awake and will not be decided by the governing NPP.

“The people are very awake and they have seen the truth,” he told TV3’s Komla Klutse in Tamale during the NDC’s 2024 campaign launch at the Jubilee Park.

Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, a member of the NDC’s manifesto committee, stated that the party aims to secure 14 out of the 18 seats in the Northern Region.

He elaborated that while the Volta Region remains the NDC’s stronghold, the Northern Region is the driving force behind the party’s momentum.

Speaking in an interview with TV3’s Mawuena Egbeta in Tamale on the sidelines of the campaign launch, the former Minister of Youth and Sports said: “The idea is that we are going to win 14 seats out of the 18 seats in 2024.”

He further criticized the Akufo-Addo for economic mismanagement.

The mismanagement of the economy, he said, will cause Ghanains to vote for the NDC.

“People have seen the abysmal performance every single sector of the economy is in a mess so the people have through,” he said.

She emphasized that corruption impacts every facet of Ghanaian life, including education and healthcare, and called on citizens to hold leaders accountable and unite against corruption.

Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings underscored that ensuring a brighter future for Ghana is a shared responsibility.

The children of the late former President Rawlings, Dr. Zanetor Rawlings and Kimathi Rawlings, took centre stage at the Mahama FitX walk, addressing a crowd of supporters at the Nungua Town Park.

The event, which marked a successful health walk over the weekend, saw enthusiastic participation from National Democratic Congress (NDC) members and supporters.

Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for the Klottey Korle Constituency, delivered a stirring speech that left many attendees in awe. Her powerful words resonated deeply with the crowd, emphasizing the critical importance of voter turnout in the upcoming presidential elections on December 7, 2024.

Following the health walk through the streets of Teshie Nungua, the day’s activities culminated in a spirited campaign rally at the Nungua Town Park. Dr. Zanetor urged the thousands of supporters present to ensure that they, along with their friends and families, voted for the NDC.

She highlighted the necessity of securing a majority in parliament to facilitate a smooth governance process for John Mahama, free from opposition interference by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

  • I’d be honoured to be considered Mahama’s running mate – Zanetor Rawlings

I’d be honoured to be considered Mahama’s running mate – Zanetor Rawlings

Member of Parliament for Klotte Korle constituency, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has expressed that she would consider it an honour if her name were to be included among the potential running mates for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

Even prior to the re-election of former President John Mahama as the NDC’s flagbearer for the 2024 elections, there had been ongoing discussions about who his potential running mate might be.

These conversations gained momentum partly due to the perception among some political analysts that Mr. Mahama may not retain his 2020 running mate, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang. Arguments against her potential selection often centered on concerns that she might not be as active or bring significant advantages to John Mahama’s candidacy for a second time.

Additionally, with Mahama aging, analysts believed that a more youthful and energetic running mate may be needed to assume a more active role both during the campaign and as Vice President if the NDC were to win the 2024 election.

One of the names that has surfaced as a potential running mate is Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, 45.

The young medical doctor, who is seeking a third term in parliament, has typically refrained from commenting on this issue. However, for those who view her as a potential candidate for the role of running mate, particularly if the NDC opts to maintain a female candidate, they see her age, vitality, eloquence, and charisma as her standout qualities.

During an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen program on Monday, September 4, the medical doctor and activist addressed the alleged mention of her name as a possible running mate.

She said, “I am sure people are looking at a lot of different factors and perhaps coming to that conclusion. Flattered? I don’t know if I will quite say that. I think it’s an interesting responsibility because what it does is perhaps to remind me to maintain a certain level of integrity in what I do because these things matter. I guess I am honoured by the fact that the name keeps coming up if that’s the case.

“But ultimately, I won’t be the one to appoint myself. So, I think beyond that I don’t know how to respond to this question “she noted.

Asked by the host, Osei Bonsu [Alias OB] whether she will respond to the call to be a running mate, she said “let’s not be preemptive and premature on this matter.”

“Look, at the end of the day, when we are called to duty, we take it up. And it’s not the case of shying away from any chance to serve the party and ultimately Ghana. And for now where I find myself is a Member of Parliament and a parliamentary candidate for the constituency [Klotte Korle], so the job before me is what I am focusing on “she noted.

Korle Klottey seat: Profile of Zanetor Rawlings, Meredith Naakai Lamptey-Addy

On May 13, 2023, two females will battle at the National Democratic Congress’ Parliamentary primaries to decide to represent the Korle Klottey Constituency in the 2024 parliamentary elections.

The incumbent Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings will compete against Meredith Naakai Lamptey-Addy to retain her seat.

Here are the profiles of both contestants:

    Profile of Zanetor Rawlings

Dr. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings is a legislative member on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress, the party founded by her father, Jerry John Rawlings, former president of the Republic of Ghana.

Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings was elected as Member of parliament for the Klottey-Korle Constituency in 2016 and has since retained the seat.

The MP was born in Ghana and had her basic education in North Ridge Lyceum and Achimota School. She later proceeded to Wesley Girls High School in Cape Coast in 1995.

She had her tertiary education at Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland where she graduated as a medical doctor.

Zanetor has won the Klottey-Korle seat consecutively since 2016. This will be the third time she is contesting for the seat on the ticket of the NDC.

Profile of Meredith Naakai Lamptey Addy

Meredith Naakai Lamptey Addy, the daughter of the late business mogul and financer of the NDC Party; David Lamptey, is seeking to replace Zanetor Rawlings in the NDC parliamentary contest in the Klottey Korle Constituency.

Meredith Naakai Lamptey Addy whose father was also the Member of Parliament of the same seat in 1996 is seeking to continue the works of her late father.

In an interview with GhanaWeb’s Nimatu Yakubu Atouyese, she said, one of the reasons she is eyeing the seat is largely because of her concern for the prosperity of the people in the area.

“Over the years, a number of issues have continuously impeded development in the community. Some of these landmark challenges include the lack of viable job opportunities and the absence of effective structures to address the welfare needs of constituents.

“Despite some interventions made in the past, there is still more to be done. On that note, I shall as a matter of priority, if ultimately elected, work with all relevant stakeholders to ensure that lucrative job avenues are made available to all; especially the youth. This will be accompanied by the creation of networking opportunities for self-development and capacity-building,” she said.

Meredith also added that she is seeking to strengthen the cracks of the party as it appears to be weakening in the constituency.

Meredith Naakai Lamptey Addy holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science University of Ghana.

She also has a Master’s in Business Administration from GIMPA and is currently undertaking a Masters in Human Resource Management also at GIMPA.

She served as her father’s personal Assistant who was C.E.O of Sidalco group of companies, Dominion Oil, Radio and TV XYZ during her National service between 2008 and 2009.

She is currently serving as the Ranking Member of the NDC, National Business development committee, member of the NDC National Welfare Committee, Sports Committee and Ga Dangme caucus.

Meredith Naakai Lamptey Addy is also the Managing Director of Patmeco Ghana Limited, Game Idol printing and advertising and Worldwide Alliance Investment Limited which is also a real estate company owned by herself and her husband.

  • Pained Zanetor suggests lie detector test, Antoa to fish out Traitor NDC MPs

Korle Klottey MP, Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, has joined scores of NDC MPs condemning the ‘betrayal’ of some MPs within the Minority Caucus who voted in favour of the approval of six ministerial appointees of the Akufo-Addo led administration, despite the party’s decision not to support their approval.

A unanimous ‘No’ vote by the NDC MPs would have rendered the appointments void since they had more numbers than their opponents on the day the votes were cast, however,  after the secret ballot, all six appointees had garnered Majority votes to pass them from the position, indicating that some MPs broke rank and voted a ‘Yes’ against the party’s directive.

This move by the ‘anonymous’ MPs has been described by the party as a grave act of betrayal.

In a Facebook post, the Korle Klottey legislator, who is yet to come to terms with the results of the secret ballot, recounted how she painstakingly sent her phone to the voting booth to record her vote as evidence to protect her integrity, although she knew very well the implications of being caught. The effort , however, came to naught since some MPs decided to pursue their personal interests.

“I’m still reeling from the outcome of the secret ballot in the House on Friday. I’ve sat with the sad realisation that the unfortunate side of being part of a collective is the collective shame that comes with the actions of a few unknown faces whose actions affect everyone.

“I knew it was risky taking my phone into the booth, because there was a chance that the Speaker might chastise me openly. I told my colleagues sitting in my section what I was going to do and why. I got to the voting booth and nervously lifted my phone to record my hand ticking the ‘No’ column, feeling so annoyed that I was having to subject myself to this! When I got to my seat, I checked the video to make sure it had captured my vote, and then informed my colleagues that it had worked! I then suggested that they do the same, for their own protection.

“I must admit that I was still shocked by the results. I was crestfallen! But even the knowledge of my evidence of how I voted, did not bring me the relief I had hoped for. People were looking up to us, and we had let the side down,” she added.

She noted that her father would have challenged the MPs from the Minority Caucus to swear an oath or subject themselves to a lie detector test to prove themselves of no betrayal.

“My father continued to advise and chastise the party in the face of sometimes outright abuse from his own, but he remained true to his convictions. I still remember vividly when from his hospital bed, he asked me how the people in my constituency were doing in the lead up to the 2020 General Elections. Even when he was a few days away from his own death, he was still worried about Ghana! On Friday night, I felt this deep pain that maybe it was perhaps better that he was not alive to witness what had happened to the NDC. But then again, I thought perhaps had he been alive he would probably have challenged all of us to go and swear on Antoa or dared us to take a lie-detector test!

“Alas! Our Founder is no longer with us, but we have come too far to destroy our own legacy! We must course correct, immediately! We need to return to the values and principles on which this party was built including honesty, accountability, integrity, discipline and commitment to our nation, Ghana!!” she added.

She further questioned why those who were opposed to the party’s decision did not speak up before the vote.

“The NDC took a decision to vote against the President’s nominations on principle. We needed President Akufo-Addo to avert his mind to the bloated size of his government/cabinet to show the commitment of the Executive to reduce its expenditure as the government struggles with unsustainable debt.

“If you disagree with a position the party and leadership have taken, have the courage of your convictions and speak up! It is cowardice and treachery to hide within the collective to pursue your individual parochial agenda!!! For the first time, I was forced to keep evidence of my votes to protect my integrity and my name!” she lamented.

  • It’s an insult to ask party hierarchy to approach Konadu for a comeback – Ben Ephson to Zanetor

Ghanaian Pollster, Ben Ephson, has expressed disappointment in the Klottey Korle MP, Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings after she called on the NDC to do all they can to bring back Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings to the party.

Ben, in his opinion, believes there are better ways she could have pleaded with the party than openly beseeching the party.

He reasoned that it was very disrespectful for Zanetor to ask the party hierarchy to approach the former first lady when she [Konadu] took the step of leaving the party.

Ben Ephson shared his opinion on the matter during an interview with Happy FM’s Don Prah on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show.

“As an analyst, I believe there would have been better ways of achieving the same end results. The woman left in 2012 obviously pained by her abysmal performance of challenging Mills. Even the husband could not convince her to return to the party”.

“My disagreement was with the way Zanetor openly asked the party to approach her to come back. If, for example, you had gone through the council of elders and I am sure one or two Council of Elders members would have said, ‘look since the demise of Rawlings, it is time for Konadu to come back to the party, this will be from among them but to ask the party hierarchy to come and ask her back to the party, I felt that it will be a bit of an insult.”

The pollster was of the view that because there are procedures that guide actions in the party, it would be appropriate for Konadu Agyeman Rawlings to reapply for the party to accept her again.

Dr Zanetor Rawlings called on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) elders to make amends and bring back her mother, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, to the party.

The late Rawling’s wife broke away from the NDC after missing out in a flagbearer bid to form her party, the National Democratic Party (NDP).

Following the death of her husband last year, she withdrew from the 2020 general elections and has since not been active in politics.

At the 1st anniversary of the late J.J Rawlings on Friday, November 12, 2021, Dr Zanetor Rawlings extended appreciation to the NDC for the continuous support while appealing for the elders in the party to work to bring back her mother.

  • Dismissing impact of June 4 revolution on the fourth republic hypocritical Zanetor

The Member of Parliament for the KlotteyKorle Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings has said that the relevance of the June 4th uprising on the fourth republic dispensation is quite clear and cannot be discounted in any way.

She made this remark when she took her turn as the first speaker to address members of the London South Branch of the NDC when they celebrated the 42nd Anniversary on the theme; “The Impact of The June 4th On The Fourth Republic of Ghana”.

She said a lot of countries around the world can draw inspiration and connection to their present political and economic situation because of their past. She argued that most successful countries around the world have gone through a similar experience as the June 4th uprising, citing Rwanda as a typical example that has shaped what they enjoy currently.

Zanetor said the principles of June 4th are still a mirror to guide the country as we move forward and that people who are quick to dismiss the impact of the revolution on the Fourth Republic dispensation are just being hypocritical. She further made the assertion that there is some sense of impunity that people can break the law based on their political inclination which the principles of June 4th stood against.

A founding member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Goosie Tanoh also traced the antecedent of the political history of Ghana since the Nkrumah days at the time when politicians were fighting for political legitimacy. He praised the extraordinary courage of Former President Rawlings, who emerged as the leader of the revolution at a time when the country was in dire need of leadership to deal with the mess that has been created by the military.

He further stated that the military government at the time had created a very oppressive and corrupt system that affected the economic lives of the ordinary Ghanaian. There was a massive shortage of necessities across the country and no foreign exchange for business transactions. There was also a massive brain drain which affected the capacity of the economy to develop.

He further noted that by the time Rawlings captured power, there was so much tension in the country as a result of the corruption and the oppressive nature of the regime. Almost all state institutions in the country had collapsed including the judiciary which was seen as very partisan in their adjudication of cases.

He posited that the country is now grappling with the same issues that preceded June 4th with general economic hardship rife in the country and a sense of impunity and lack of regard for the law. He said the nature of politics is grounded in the economic life of the ordinary Ghanaian and that is what politicians should pay attention to.

“The relevance of the June 4th cannot be discounted as it transited to the PNDC era which laid the foundation for the 4th Republic that we currently enjoy,” he stressed.

  • Daddy accommodated so many people and still had room for more Zanetor Rawlings

The first daughter of the late former president, Jerry John Rawlings, Dr, Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has eulogized her father, revealing how she wondered often that as a single man, he was able to welcome so many people into his life.

She added that notwithstanding that fact, he always still had so much more room for others, never tiring from relating to people from all walks of life.

“I never could fathom how you managed to have such a personal relationship with so many people from so many walks of life and still have room for more! Each person had a personal story to tell of how you impacted their lives,” she read.

Dr. Zanetor Rawlings explained further that such attributes of her late father exemplified what a rare gift of life he was.

“And somehow, each person whose life you touched felt like you left them with more than when they first met you. What a rare gift! What a blessing!” she said.

She said these in a tribute she read on behalf of her and her siblings in memory of their late father, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, during the funeral service of the former statesman at the Black Star Square in Accra.

  • Election Protest: Zanetor Rawlings, other 19 NDC MPs court case adjourned

Court has been forced to adjourn a case against some twenty minority Members of Parliament (MP) charged over their march to the Electoral Commission (EC) head office.

The adjournment, although without a new set date, came as a result of the MPs failing to show up in court.

The police prosecutor on Monday indicated his readiness to proceed with the case, however, none of the accused persons or their lawyers were present.

The charged minority MPs walked from Parliament to the EC Head Office and broke through a police barricade to present a petition to the EC on December 22, 2020.

The police in a statement of offence accused the minority MPs of failing to notify the police before holding a special event contrary to sections 1, 2 and 9 of the Public Order Act.

Also, the NDC MPS were charged with unlawful assembly contrary to section 202 of the Criminal Offences Act.

“You are hereby commanded in the name of the republic to appear before this court at Accra on the 4th of January 2021,” the summons distributed in the pigeonholes (shelves) of each of the 20 MPs read.

The MPs are Haruna Iddrisu, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, Samuel George, John Abdulai Jinapor, Rockson Defiamekpor, Ras Mubarak, Mutawakilu Adam, Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, Dr Kwabena Donkor, A.B. Fuseini, Kwabena Minta Akando, Yusif Issaka Jaja, Isaac Adongo, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, James Klutse Avedzi, James Agalga, Collins Dauda, Abdul Rashi Pelpuo, Richard Quashigah and Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings.

Meanwhile, the Deputy General Secretary of the party, Peter Boamah Otokunor, was also charged with the same offence.

MP for Kumbungu Ras Mubarak had earlier indicated that his minority colleagues will not honour a police summon served on them to appear before the Accra Circuit Court.

  • NDC man contests Zanetor Rawlings as an independent candidate

Member of Parliament (MP) for Klottey Korle Constituency, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, may have her votes slashed in the 2020 general elections, as a leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has decided to contest the race as an Independent candidate.

Alhaji Danjumah Alhassan as he’s known, says he is going to contest the sitting lawmaker in the impending elections because she has failed the people according to his assessment of her performance.

According to him, Dr Agyeman-Rawlings, cannot boast of any specific developmental initiative in the Klottey Korle Constituency, since she took over as a Member of Parliament in the Constituency.

Alhaji Danjumah Alhassan, said what even beats his imagination is the fact that the daughter of Ghana’s former President, Jerry John Rawlings is not an open Member of Parliament who is easily approached by the people, hence making the NDC unpopular in the constituency.

He noted that the MP, apart from being incompetent, since taking over the seat has never given out funds to the executives in the constituency to organize campaigns in order for the NDC to win power.

On the back of the many ills by Zanetor Rawlings, Alhaji Danjumah Alhassan believes he needs to go into the race as an Independent candidate to save the people of Klottey Korle or else they will be left behind in terms of development.

When asked if he’s not going contrary to the party’s constitution, he told Tema-based Green FM in an interview monitored by MyNewsGh.com that “I’ve served the NDC since 1992 but it has always been monkey dey work baboon dey chop so I don’t even care about the repercussions. I honestly don’t care what will happen. I’ve taken my decision and nothing is stopping me.”

  • Stop misbehaving Adom-Otchere tells Zanetor

Television broadcaster Paul Adom-Otchere says Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the Klottey-Korley legislator, should “stop misbehaving”.

According to him, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, should have called the minister in charge of Gender and Social Protection, Cynthia Mamle Morrison, before waging into unsubstantiated allegations over the distribution of food to Kayayei within her constituency.

“Let it get into your system Dr Rawlings, you come from a privileged home…behave properly, stop misbehaving,” angry Paul Adom-Otchere said on his TV show, Good Evening Ghana.

Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings had issued a statement responding to the Gender and Social Protection Minister, Cynthia Mamle Morrison, over the distribution of food for the vulnerable with her constituency.

She pointed it out that there has been some discrimination in the distribution of food within her constituency. Such reports had been widely reported in the media and on social media.

She sighted a GhanaWeb report whereby a lady was denied food because she could not produce an NPP card.

“The NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Mr. John Dumelo had to locate the said lady and make donations to her following that report,” she said.

In her comments, Dr Agyeman-Rawlings also said that her colleague MP in the Ablekuma South Constituency, Dr Oko Vanderpuije had to also go public about how food intended for the poor was being distributed in NPP vehicles under the direct supervision of the NPP candidate for that constituency.

“Dr Oko Vanderpuije before speaking to the press about the unfortunate development had called Mrs Cynthia Mamle Morrison on phone to bring the matter to her notice and to register his protest,” the Klottey Korley MP added.

In responding to the comments of Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings which was a response to the Gender and Social Protection Minister, Adom-Otchere stated that she, Zanetor, should have learnt something basic from her colleague MP Dr Oko Vanderpuije, who she herself said had called the minister before addressing the media on the matter.

Paul explained that if Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings had read through her prepared comments for the second time before addressing the media, she would have behaved in a manner worthy of a parliamentarian.

“Oko Vanderpuije spoke to the minister before he spoke to the press, did you do any such thing in your Klottey-Korley constituency?” the TV broadcaster quizzed.

“…Are you learning something that as an honourable member of parliament, before you speak to the press, you must confront the allegation with the authority…you confront the allegation because you have position…you have power, you have an influence…you are an elected member of parliament, you ought to be listened to by the authorities,” Adom-Otchere said.

The worse part of the Klottey-Korley MP’s address to the media, for Adom-Otchere, was where the MP, in her statement sighted social media as evidence for the basis of public comments over the distribution of food in the locked-down areas.

“Honourable Member of Parliament, ex-officio member of the assembly, Honourable Dr Zanetor Rawlings, your evidence and basis for making an allegation against your opposing political party is social media…Whaaaat! Why did she even issue this statement…who told you to issue this statement…Please whoever advised you has done you a lot of harm…herh…,” awed Paul Adom-Otchere stated.

Paul Adom-Otchere then advised the daughter of JJ Rawlings to take politics of Ghana and her constituency very seriously and learn from her parents on how they conducted themselves when they were leading the country.
