Arthur L. Irving, the former leader of Irving Oil, has passed away at 93 years old.
Arthur Irving passed away on Monday, according to a statement from Irving Oil. Irving was born in Saint John, N.B in 1930. In 1951, he joined the company that his father, K.C. Irving, founded in 1924, along with his brothers Jim and Jack. He became the president of the company in 1972.
The release says that Arthur Irving made Irving Oil very successful. “He expanded the Saint John refinery, and it became the biggest in Canada. ” He also led the company’s growth in other countries, starting in the Northeastern United States and Ireland.
“He was the leader of the company and under his guidance, it was chosen as one of the best employers in Canada in 2017. The company has kept this title for eight years in a row. ”
John K.F. Irving wrote a letter on Monday saying that his uncle, Arthur Irving, really cared about his community as well as his business.
John’s letter said that Arthur shows his commitment by investing in the economy and supporting causes like the environment.
“I and my family are very sorry for the loss of his wife, Sandra, and his children and their families. Our thoughts are with them. ”
Arthur Irving was the leader of Irving Oil. He was also in charge of Acadia University for 14 years and joined Ducks Unlimited for 30 years. He also started the Arthur L. Irving Family Foundation.
Arthur was a strong supporter of Atlantic Canada and its people. He spent his life trying to create opportunities that would help the region. “He greeted everyone he met with a handshake, remembered their names, and made everyone feel special. ”
Irving got special awards from Canada in 2002 and from New Brunswick in 2012.
