Woman saved from floodwaters during Storm Agnes

Firefighters saved a woman from a river that was full of water after a storm called Agnes brought lots of rain and strong winds to the area in County Londonderry in Ireland.

The lady was brought to Antrim Area Hospital, where she received medical care for being too cold and feeling very scared.

The first storm of the season, called Storm Agnes, came to Northern Ireland around lunchtime. It caused problems for certain flights, ferries, and power lines.

About 1,700 people in Northern Ireland, including those in Poyntzpass in County Armagh, do not have electricity because of the bad weather.

The weather agencies, the Met Office and Met Éireann, gave warnings about the weather and said there might be problems with traveling.

In Ireland, really strong winds caused a number of trees to fall down in Cork and Dublin.

In the town of Youghal by the sea in County Cork, a building on Front Strand lost part of its roof due to strong winds.
The Cork Council said that the road was closed and the gardai (Irish police) and fire service were keeping an eye on the situation.

Met Éireann has decided to continue their strong wind warning for the counties of Cork, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Kerry, Tipperary, and Waterford until 7:00 PM on Wednesday.

There is a weather warning for rain in Cork, Carlow, Dublin, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Kerry, and Waterford until midnight. There is also a warning for wind in Leinster, Munster, and Galway during the same time.
There is flooding in Cork and the council is telling drivers to stay away from flooded areas.

On Wednesday afternoon, several flights at Belfast City Airport were canceled. Additionally, there have been issues with P&O Ferries on their route between Larne and Cairnryan in Scotland. The boats that were supposed to leave at 4:00 PM were cancelled, and the next boat that is supposed to leave at 8:00 PM might be delayed.
In Northern Ireland, there is a warning for rain until 8:00 pm and a warning for wind until 7:00 am on Thursday.

The Met Office said that some places could get a lot of rain, up to 30mm (1. 2in) in just a few hours. Other areas, like the Mournes and Sperrins, could get even more rain, up to 50mm.

This might cause more floods as the storm moves towards the north and east.

The strongest wind in Northern Ireland has been 57mph, measured at Glenanne in County Armagh.

In Ireland, there were very strong winds of 72mph (116kmph) recorded on Sherkin Island in west Cork.

There was a lot of rain today, with some places getting 20-25mm.
The rain warning in Northern Ireland will end at 20:00. After that, there will still be heavy showers with thunder in the evening, but they will gradually stop before midnight.
