Why Neymar is missing from Ancelotti’s first squad

The immediate past coach of Real Madrid and Brazil’s new coach, Carlo Ancelotti, has released his first squad for the Ecuador clash on June 5, and the club’s talisman, Neymar, is missing from the list.

The Italian coach has recalled Manchester United’s Casemiro, Richarlison and Real Betis’ Antony, whose last appearances for the national team were in October 2023, after which they were omitted from subsequent call-ups.

However, the trio have been included for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay.

Neymar’s snub from the squad has stirred mixed reactions; however, Ancelotti has clarified that Brazil’s all-time leading scorer, Neymar, is currently not in good form.

He felt it was too early for the Santos forward to make an appearance at the national level, since his return from injury has been barely two months.

“I tried to select players who are in good shape,” Ancelotti said on Monday. “Neymar had an injury recently. Everyone knows that Neymar is a very important player; he always has been and always will be,” he said.

Neymar last played for Brazil on October 17, 2023, in a World Cup qualifier against Uruguay. Unfortunately, he suffered a serious ACL and meniscus injury during the match, which kept him out of action for over a year.

Brazil’s clash with Ecuador is scheduled for June 5 before hosting Paraguay on June 10.

In response to questions about Man Utd’s midfielder Casemiro’s quality, the Italian manager lauded his former player for his “charisma, personality, and talent.”

“In my opinion, he is a great player. I was lucky to be with him, I think the national team needs this type of player. Brazil has always had a lot of talent.

“In modern soccer, you have to add attitude, commitment, sacrifice, and Casemiro has that. And many of those who have been called up have that.”

Meanwhile, Vinícius Júnior has been picked. And Carlo said this about him.

“It’s hard to say, because Vini hasn’t shown his best side yet,” he said. “If that hasn’t happened, it will, because he’s an extraordinary player, hard-working and a fighter.”

“The truth is that Brazilian players are very fond of their national team, and this may affect their natural thinking, in the sense that sometimes they feel a lot of pressure to perform well. This may prevent them from performing well. I am totally convinced that Vini will show his true colors with his national team.”

Brazil has yet to qualify for next year’s World Cup and is fourth in the South American group, having lost five of 14 games.

    Brazil squad:
Goalkeepers: Alisson (Liverpool), Bento (Al Nassr), Hugo Souza (Corinthians).

Defenders: Alexsandro (Flamengo), Alexsandro Ribeiro (Lille), Beraldo (PSG), Carlos Augusto (Inter Milan), Danilo (Flamengo), Léo Ortiz (Flamengo), Marquinhos (PSG), Vanderson (Monaco), Wesley (Flamengo).

Midfielders: Andreas Pereira (Fulham), Andrey Santos (Strasbourg), Bruno Guimarães (Newcastle), Casemiro (Manchester United), Éderson (Atalanta), Gerson (Flamengo).

Forwards: Antony (Betis), Estêvão (Palmeiras), Gabriel Martinelli (Arsenal), Matheus Cunha (Wolverhampton), Raphinha (Barcelona), Richarlison (Tottenham), Vinícius Júnior (Real Madrid).

I will be Brazil’s coach from May 26 – Carlo Ancelotti

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed his exit from the Spanish club.

He made this known at a news conference held ahead of Real Madrid’s match against Mallorca on May 14th.

The confirmation comes a few days after the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) issued a statement announcing his appointment by the end of the season.

Ancelotti said, “If I didn’t have the press conference today, it would be fantastic. There are things I can’t explain right now because I’m in Madrid and I want to respect the shirt.”

“From 26 May onwards, I’ll be Brazil’s coach. It’s a very important challenge, but I want to finish the final stretch of this fantastic adventure here well”.

When asked if he has ever faced any issues with Real Madrid that led him to consider leaving, he clarified that he has never encountered and will never encounter any problems with the club, adding that the club may need fresh inspiration and drive.

He said that he cannot be the club’s coach for life.

“I never had problems with Real and never will have problems with Real. It’s a club that lives dearly in my heart, but everything in life has a date to end.

I couldn’t be Madrid’s coach for the rest of my life. It comes to an end for many reasons. The club may need a new impetus. I’m not making a big deal out of it,” he said.

He also clarified that the club would issue a statement on his departure at their own time, emphasising “There is no problem whatsoever and they’ll do it when they deem it appropriate.”

Ancelotti ended by expressing his gratitude to the club. “A thousand thanks to this club. And we’ll carry on. I’ll always be a Madrid fan. It’s the end of an era. Spectacular. I never thought I’d coach Madrid for six years, and now it’s happened.”

Reflecting on his time at Madrid, he said, “I always kept in mind that one day it ends. I’ve had a great time, and I think everyone has, but there comes a time when it ends. Football is like life; something begins and ends.”

“I’ve had a great time. We’ve won a lot, and it will be a memory for life. The day I arrived [for the second time], if they told me I’d win 11 titles in four years, I’d sign it with my blood. It’s been an unforgettable time.”

During two spells with Real Madrid, Ancelotti has won 15 trophies, including three Champions League titles.

Last season, he led them to a Champions League and La Liga double, but is set to finish this campaign without silverware.

Real Madrid exited the Champions League in the quarter-finals, lost the final of the Copa del Rey to Barcelona, and sit seven points behind Hansi Flick’s side in the league with three matches remaining.

Obsessed” Tebas should focus on important matters, not unnecessary criticisms -Ancelotti to LaLiga pres

Carlo Ancelotti has strongly criticized LaLiga president Javier Tebas, accusing him of being “obsessed” with Real Madrid and showing a lack of respect for coaches.

The Real Madrid boss voiced his frustration over fixture congestion, vowing that his team would not take the field if given less than 72 hours to recover between matches. His remarks followed Madrid’s dissatisfaction with the scheduling of their 2-1 victory over Villarreal on March 15.

Tebas, when asked about the controversy during a conference on Thursday, appeared to take a swipe at Ancelotti’s squad management. He noted that since COVID-19, teams are allowed five substitutions per game, yet some managers only make three late in the match and then complain about player fatigue.

“I knew [Tebas] was obsessed with Real Madrid, but I didn’t know he wanted to be a coach,” Ancelotti responded, when asked about the comments in a news conference on Friday. “[Tebas] should focus more on his own things. He lacked a bit of respect, to Real Madrid and to coaches.”

The scheduling row is the latest in a series of clashes between Madrid and the league on a number of issues.

Speaking ahead of Madrid’s game with Leganés at the Santiago Bernabéu, Ancelotti sought to add some nuance to his threat.

“I must add something: we won’t play [with under 72 hours’ rest] without justification,” he said. “It might be that nobody can change [the time], there might not be enough time, for many reasons.
“But for [the] Villarreal [game], it could have been changed. Villarreal and the television companies wanted to. Only LaLiga didn’t. There was no justifiable reason.”

Ancelotti categorically denied that the Brazil Football Confederation (CBF) had contacted him in recent days over coaching the national team, following Brazil 4-1 defeat to Argentina in World Cup qualifying.

The Italian has previously been strongly linked with the position, but has a contract at the Bernabéu until June 2026.

“My contract speaks for itself,” Ancelotti said. “I don’t have anything to add. I have a lot of affection for the Brazil team, its players and fans. But I have a contract at Real Madrid.”

On Thursday, UEFA announced that it was investigating four Madrid players — Kylian Mbappé, Vinícius Júnior, Antonio Rüdiger and Dani Ceballos — over their behaviour following their penalty shootout victory over Atlético Madrid in the Champions League round of 16 on March 12.

Real play Arsenal in the quarterfinals next month.

Ancelotti fumes at Tebas, says he “talks about Real Madrid too much”

Carlo Ancelotti pushed back against Javier Tebas on Tuesday, criticizing the LaLiga president for frequently commenting on Real Madrid. He also accused Tebas of being disrespectful after the latter claimed the club was “crying” over refereeing decisions.

Madrid has expressed frustration over several recent officiating calls, particularly after dropping points against Espanyol, Atlético Madrid, and Osasuna in successive league matches. In response, the club filed a formal complaint with the Spanish football federation (RFEF) this month, alleging referee misconduct and match manipulation.

At a talk with the news agency Europa Press on Monday, Tebas said he was “starting to feel ashamed” of being a Real Madrid fan, saying the club was “crying” about officials and creating a “conspiracy theory” which was “an insult to the rest of the clubs.”

“Tebas talks about Real Madrid too much,” Ancelotti said in a news conference on Tuesday, ahead of Madrid’s Copa del Rey semifinal first leg at Real Sociedad.

“Since I’ve been here, it’s happened often. It’s a lack of respect to millions of Madrid fans to talk like that. The president of LaLiga should focus more on solving the problems that Spanish football has.”

Madrid have frequently highlighted officials’ decisions on their TV channel, before and after matches. President Florentino Pérez has called for reform of the refereeing system, and RFEF president Rafael Louzan has even claimed that Pérez told him he’d like to see English referees in Spain.

“I don’t know what ‘shame’ [Tebas] feels,” Ancelotti said. “I think all Madridistas are proud to be fans of this club.”

Also on Tuesday, Tebas hit back at Ancelotti’s comments saying on X: “Carlo, it’s a shame that they’re using you for this, given the experience you have.”

Tebas aimed his comment directly at Ancelotti, saying: “Carlo, everyone knows that institutions are reflected in what their leaders do and say. And in football, even more so. So, when I said that ‘Real Madrid has become a club that cries a lot,’ I was obviously referring to the fact that it is its leaders who are constructing this victim and conspiratorial narrative: ‘an adulterated competition,’ ‘the bias of all referees is anti-Madrid,’ ‘they are all against Real Madrid’…

“Strange, isn’t it? Because that speech, besides being disrespectful to the competition, is also disrespectful to the clubs that beat you on the field, either because they were better or simply because they were luckier. That is disrespectful to millions of fans.

“I have been a Madrid fan since I was a child, and this whole narrative that the management is promoting goes against the values that we have always known.”

  • ‘I will choose Champions League refs over LaLiga refs’ – Madrid’s Ancelotti

‘I will choose Champions League refs over LaLiga refs’ – Madrid’s Ancelotti

Carlo Ancelotti prefers Champions League referees, noting that there is “less controversy and fewer VAR interventions.” This comment comes as Real Madrid prepares to face Manchester City in their playoff second leg, amidst ongoing disputes over LaLiga officiating.

Real Madrid secured a 3-2 victory at the Etihad Stadium last week, with Jude Bellingham scoring a 92nd-minute winner. Ancelotti described this as giving the reigning champions a “small advantage” heading into Wednesday’s match at the Santiago Bernabéu.

On Monday, Madrid executives met with Spanish refereeing officials to review audio recordings of a contentious decision in Madrid’s recent LaLiga defeat at Espanyol. This meeting followed an open letter from the club, asserting that Spain’s refereeing system was “completely discredited.”

“Yes,” Ancelotti said in a pre-match news conference on Tuesday, when asked if he “felt calmer” with Champions League officiating.

“I think there’s less controversy, and fewer VAR interventions. The VAR only intervenes when it’s necessary. In the Champions League, the best referees in each country officiate, so the quality is very high.”

Madrid have been unhappy with key decisions in their last three LaLiga games: the 1-0 loss at Espanyol, a 1-1 draw with Atlético Madrid, and Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Osasuna, where Bellingham was sent off.

“I’ve given my opinion about what’s happening,” Ancelotti said. “What’s happening is surprising, but I have nothing to add. Obviously we aren’t happy with what happened against Osasuna, Atlético … They were three games where we were hurt by decisions which I still don’t understand.”

Ancelotti said he was “hopeful” that Bellingham would escape a ban for his red card, with Madrid saying the referee was mistaken in his claim that the midfielder had insulted him.

The Italian confirmed that defender Antonio Rüdiger will be available for the City second leg — after missing out in Manchester — but said right-back Lucas Vázquez wasn’t ready to start.

He also rejected Pep Guardiola’s claim that City have a “1%” chance of progressing to the knockout phase.

“Tomorrow before the game, I’ll ask him if he really thinks that they have a 1% chance!” Ancelotti said. “We don’t think we have a 99% chance. We think we have a small advantage that we have to make the most of.”

“I’m happy with the game we played in the first leg,” Fede Valverde — who played out of position at right-back — added.

“I see how the team is playing, how we’ve been training. That makes you feel calm. You know the team will do well. It gives me confidence that we’ll go through.”

Valverde spoke up for referees in a news conference, which upset many Madrid fans.

On Tuesday, the versatile Uruguayan player went on social media to explain his remarks.

“I don’t want anyone to misunderstand me, but above all I want to clarify for our fans: If today I don’t talk about the refereeing we are suffering it is because I am aware myself, and I must focus on tomorrow,” he wrote.

“Everyone has seen what is happening to us in this league, and I haven’t forgotten it, but now we have to focus on tomorrow, and I will be 100% focused as I have always been.”

  • “It feels like a Clásico now” – Carlo Ancelotti on Real Madrid-Man City clash

“It feels like a Clásico now” – Carlo Ancelotti on Real Madrid-Man City clash

Carlo Ancelotti has likened the rivalry between Manchester City and Real Madrid to a Clásico, as the two European giants prepare to clash once again in the Champions League. This marks their fourth consecutive meeting in the competition, with the Italian coach predicting that the winner will have a strong chance of advancing deep into the tournament.

Unlike their previous encounters in the semifinals and quarterfinals—where Madrid triumphed in 2022 and 2024, while City prevailed in 2023—this season’s showdown takes place in the knockout playoff round after both teams had underwhelming group stage performances.

Heading into the first leg at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, City are struggling domestically, currently sitting fifth in the Premier League. Meanwhile, Madrid top LaLiga but are dealing with a defensive injury crisis, missing key players such as Dani Carvajal, Éder Militão, Antonio Rüdiger, and David Alaba.

With both teams facing their own challenges, this high-stakes encounter promises another thrilling chapter in their growing Champions League rivalry.

“It feels like a Clásico now, because we’ve played them now for many years,” Ancelotti said in his pre-match news conference in Manchester on Monday. “I still think City are one of the best teams in Europe. City have the best coach [Pep Guardiola] in this competition. It’s one of the most difficult games you can have … And the same goes for us, we’re competitive, despite the emergency we face.”

In 2022, Real Madrid triumphed over Manchester City with a 6-5 aggregate victory in the Champions League semifinals. During the second leg at the Santiago Bernabéu, Madrid staged a thrilling comeback, scoring all three of their goals in added time to win 3-1.

When the two teams faced off again in the 2024 quarterfinals, it took a dramatic penalty shootout to decide the match. Madrid ultimately emerged as Champions League winners in both instances, while Manchester City claimed the title in 2023 after knocking out Madrid.

“It’s the most difficult rival, the most important rival, and the best manager,” Ancelotti said. “The team that goes through to the next round has the possibility to go far in the competition. In the last years, the team that won this tie, won the Champions League.”
Ancelotti said facing Guardiola’s City is “always a headache.”

“He’s a coach who always tries to bring something new to his team,” Ancelotti said. “He’s done a lot for football in terms of possession, pressing, playing out from the back. He’s an innovator. I have a lot of respect for him … It’s always a nightmare preparing for the game.”

In 2022, forward Rodrygo starred when the two teams met, scoring twice in a minute to see Madrid progress.

“I was talking two or three days to [midfielder] Fede Valverde, about the game against City,” Rodrygo said.

“I asked him if we’d ever feel that emotion again. It was the most special night of my career … Sometimes I’ve been happy playing against [City], other times not so much. I’m in good form and I can be decisive. But I try to be decisive in every game, not just against City.”

‘From what I hear, nobody is happy with referees’ – Ancelotti to LaLiga prez

Carlo Ancelotti has responded to LaLiga president Javier Tebas’ criticism, asserting that Real Madrid’s complaints about refereeing decisions are driven by a desire to “improve things” and “change a system they don’t like.”

Madrid lodged a formal complaint with the Spanish football federation (RFEF) earlier this week, expressing their anger over the decision not to send off Espanyol defender Carlos Romero—who went on to score the winning goal—for a challenge on Kylian Mbappé during Madrid’s 1-0 defeat at the RCDE Stadium last Saturday.

At a meeting of LaLiga clubs with the RFEF and the refereeing body, the CTA, which Madrid chose not to attend, Tebas claimed on Thursday that Madrid had “lost their minds” over the issue, accusing the club of “constructing a narrative of victimhood.”

“It’s something that I’d prefer not to discuss before such an important game,” Ancelotti said in a news conference on Friday, ahead of Real’s crucial derby with title rivals Atlético Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu.

“But Tebas can stay calm. Nobody here has lost their minds. We’ve asked for an explanation of what happened, to try to improve things, to try to change the system.”

Real Madrid has requested that the federation release the audio recordings of conversations between on-field referee Alejandro Muñiz Ruiz and video assistant referee Javier Iglesias Villanueva regarding the foul on Kylian Mbappé and an earlier disallowed goal by Vinícius Júnior.

Ancelotti said that request had so far gone unheeded, despite RFEF president Rafael Louzan saying on Thursday that the federation had “nothing to hide.”

“From what I hear, nobody is happy [with referees],” Ancelotti said. “People think it’s a system that favours Real Madrid, but when Real Madrid want to change it, everyone is against it. That surprises me a bit … We haven’t received [the audio]. I don’t know why they don’t want to give it to us. You’d have to ask them.”

Ancelotti to reportedly part ways with Real Madrid at the end of the season

Renowned Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly decided to leave Real Madrid at the end of the 2024/25 season, despite having a contract that runs until June 2026.

According to Spanish radio station Onda Cero, which shared the news on Monday, January 20, 2025, Ancelotti’s decision appears to be final and is not influenced by the team’s performance or potential trophies this season.

Despite his planned departure, Ancelotti continues to have the full support of the club’s management, who have stood by him through recent challenges.

With his exit on the horizon, Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has emerged as the frontrunner to replace him.

Alonso, currently under contract with Leverkusen until June 2026, is seen as the top candidate for the Real Madrid job.

Ancelotti will depart as the most successful coach in the club’s history, having secured an impressive 15 trophies over his two tenures.

Between his first stint from 2013 to 2015 and his return in 2021, Ancelotti has guided Real Madrid to remarkable achievements, including three UEFA Champions League titles, two La Liga championships, two Copa del Rey titles, two Spanish Supercopas, three UEFA Super Cups, two FIFA Club World Cups, and an Intercontinental Cup.

Floods in Spain: Ancelotti says “football had to stop and then help”

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has expressed that football in Spain should have been suspended in light of the devastating flash floods that resulted in over 215 fatalities in the Valencia region.

Following La Liga’s request to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Real Madrid’s match in Valencia and Villarreal’s game against Rayo Vallecano in La Liga were postponed.

Despite these cancellations, six other top-flight matches proceeded over the weekend. Last week, six Copa del Rey fixtures involving La Liga clubs, including Valencia, were also postponed as authorities advised against non-essential travel in the affected areas .

“Football is a party and you can only celebrate and party when you, your family and everybody is well. When people are not well, you don’t party,” said Ancelotti.

“Football has to stop. Because it is the most important of the least important things in life.

“But we are not the decision-makers. We have to follow the instructions of those who are in charge.

“There are many ways to help. Football had to stop and then help. Everyone has been clear about it – nobody wanted to play.”

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has said it made “no sense” for games to go ahead at the weekend, and Barcelona’s Hansi Flick said he would have cancelled them.

Real host AC Milan in the Champions League group stage on Tuesday.

Ancelotti won eight trophies, including two Champions League titles, as Milan manager from 2001 to 2009.

His Real team lost 4-0 to Barcelona on 26 October, and two days later Real striker Vinicius Jr finished second behind Rodri for the Ballon d’Or.

Football matters have since been firmly put in perspective by the tragedy in Valencia.

“It was supposed to be a special game for me, facing Milan. But there is no meaning in talking about football now,” said Ancelotti.

“It has been a difficult week, not because of what happened with the Ballon d’Or or El Clasico. It happened and that’s that – congratulations to the winners.

“Our sadness is not about that. It is for what is happening here in Spain.”

The Valencia region has recently experienced an overwhelming amount of rainfall, equivalent to an entire year’s worth, causing significant disruption. On Sunday, during a visit to the hard-hit town of Paiporta, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain faced backlash from angry protesters, who threw mud and other objects at them.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez was also targeted but was evacuated quickly to ensure his safety.

In Barcelona, torrential rain led to severe flooding on Monday, resulting in chaos at El Prat Airport, where over 60 flights were either canceled, delayed, or rerouted. Additionally, rail services were suspended due to the adverse weather conditions .

  • Players wouldn’t have a problem cutting pay for flexible fixtures – Ancelotti

Players wouldn’t have a problem cutting pay for flexible fixtures – Ancelotti

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said he believes players would be willing to take a pay cut if it meant playing fewer games during the season.

Top internationals competing in the expanded Champions League and the revamped Club World Cup could end up playing as many as 85 games this season, which has led some players to complain about the new schedule overload.

“Football needs to reflect because the aim is to try to play less games to have less injuries,” Ancelotti said in Friday’s news conference.

“If that leads to lowering salaries, the aim is for players to play less games, so I don’t think the players will have any problem to lower their wages if they play less.”

Manchester City midfielder Rodri recently cautioned that players are nearing the point of strike action due to growing concerns about their heavy match schedules.

His sentiments were echoed by several others, including Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois and Dani Carvajal, who have voiced similar frustrations.

However, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti noted that any strike threats from the players would not alter the current season’s fixture calendar.

“The complaints of coaches and players is not going to change this season’s calendar,” Ancelotti said.

“It’s important to reflect on this and the players more so because they are getting tired. We have to analyse this. The players are thinking about changes in the future.”

Ancelotti also spoke about his team’s form ahead of their game against Espanyol.

Los Blancos go into Saturday’s LaLiga game on the back of a hard-fought 3-1 home win over Stuttgart in their Champions League opener on Tuesday.

“Against Stuttgart we showed some great plays,” Ancelotti said. “I think we play beautiful football. I see that our fans are loving how we are playing.

“Can we play better? Yes, sometimes. With our players, with our characteristics, we have to win and play well.

“We have to think about winning and hope not to have injuries. I hope to see the team improving, keep getting that good dynamic back.”

Real Madrid currently sit third in La Liga, trailing leaders Barcelona by four points after five matches.

While the team has areas to work on, manager Carlo Ancelotti understands that progress will require patience.

  • The focus is to win and not necessarily play well – Real Madrid’s Ancelotti

The focus is to win and not necessarily play well – Real Madrid’s Ancelotti

On Friday, Real Madrid’s manager Carlo Ancelotti, 65, dismissed concerns about the team’s less appealing playing style, asserting that securing victories takes precedence over aesthetics.

With an unbeaten record of five wins in seven matches this season, Ancelotti remains focused on strategies for success, even as he navigates injuries to key players and others who are still working to regain their best form.

“Real Madrid fans prefer winning over playing well,” he said ahead of Sunday’s LaLiga clash at home to mid-table Espanyol.

“Ideally you want both, winning while playing an attractive style of football, but our main objective is pleasing our fans, who are very demanding, so we will keep our focus on winning as we know that our squad is still far away from ideal form.

“We are not at our best, and that is normal in the beginning of a demanding calendar. We will improve as the season starts to get into the important things to play for. For the moment we are in, we are doing well.”

Jude Bellingham and Aurelien Tchouameni returned from injury in Real Madrid’s tough 3-1 win over Stuttgart, kicking off their defence of the Champions League title on Tuesday.

Despite this positive development, manager Carlo Ancelotti indicated that David Alaba, Eduardo Camavinga, Dani Ceballos, and Brahim Diaz will need several more weeks to fully recover.

Ancelotti remains optimistic about forwards Vinicius Jr. and Kylian Mbappe, pointing out that while they are still in the process of developing, both players have been making steady progress and are ready to inject the team with the energy needed for a more dynamic attacking approach.

“The criticism doesn’t bother me because I see that the fans are delighted,” Ancelotti said.

“You can play better, but the fans are used to our ‘rock and roll’ football. Not a lot of touches. We try to make the Madrid fans happy. And our game is about intensity, pace… Without wasting too much time in reaching the opponent’s goal.

“These are our characteristics. We have players with a lot of strength and speed, especially on the ball, and we have to take advantage of that.

“For me, I believe that beautiful football depends on the characteristics of the players I have: attacking well, defending well… playing well on the counter. There are many facets and everyone has their own opinion.”

Barcelona top the LaLiga standings with 15 points, four ahead of Atletico Madrid, Real and Villarreal.

Demanding calendar to be blamed for Real Madrid’s injury woes – Carlo Ancelotti

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has attributed the team’s injury struggles this season to a congested match schedule, with forward Brahim Díaz becoming the latest casualty.

Díaz was forced to leave the field during Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad in La Liga on Saturday after sustaining an abductor injury in his right leg.

While initial reports suggested that Díaz could be sidelined for up to three months, ESPN sources now indicate the forward may recover sooner, with a revised timeline estimating his return in just over two months.

According to ESPN, Brahim Díaz is expected to be out for more than two months due to his injury.

Initially, the club feared a three-month recovery period, but sources close to the player are hopeful he might return sooner.

At a press conference on Monday, ahead of Real Madrid’s Champions League clash with Stuttgart, manager Carlo Ancelotti pointed to the packed fixture schedule as a key factor behind the team’s spate of injuries early in the season.

In addition to Díaz, midfielders Jude Bellingham, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Eduardo Camavinga, and Dani Ceballos have also been sidelined recently.

However, Ancelotti confirmed that both Bellingham and Tchouaméni would be fit for Tuesday’s game.

“We’ve looked at what we can do, but it’s out of our hands,” Ancelotti said. “The problem is a calendar that’s too demanding. Now we have a new competition [the Champions League].

We don’t know how it will go, if it will be more entertaining, but the one fact is that we have two extra games.

“I call for people to think about cutting the number of games, to have more attractive competitions.”

During Real Madrid’s victory over Real Sociedad on Saturday, Brahim Diaz had to leave the field due to an injury.

Ancelotti confirmed that defender Éder Militão, who missed Monday’s training session, had simply been rested and is expected to be available for their match against Stuttgart.

The coach also addressed criticism of Vinícius Júnior, who faced backlash for his goal celebration after converting a penalty. Vinícius gestured to silence the crowd at the Reale Arena, a move that has sparked some controversy.

    Ancelotti defended the forward’s actions.

  • Ancelotti confident, Mbappe will score goals following goal drought

Ancelotti confident, Mbappe will score goals following goal drought

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti remains unfazed by Kylian Mbappé’s recent goal drought, despite the star forward failing to score in back-to-back LaLiga matches.

Mbappé, who signed a five-year deal with Madrid this summer, made an immediate impact by scoring in their UEFA Super Cup triumph over Atalanta earlier this month.

However, in Madrid’s 3-0 win against Real Valladolid at the Bernabéu on Sunday, Mbappé was substituted in the 86th minute, marking his second consecutive league match without finding the back of the net.

Ancelotti, though, expressed no concern over the Frenchman’s temporary scoring slump.

“It makes me very happy. I’ve started off at the Bernabéu winning the game and we got the three points,” Mbappé said to Real Madrid TV after the game.

“It was a great night. The fans were top. We wanted to win the first game [here]. It’s a dream playing in this stadium, but we have another game on Thursday and we want to win again.”

Midfielder Federico Valverde put Madrid ahead after half-time, and substitute Brahim Díaz added a second goal, before Mbappé’s replacement Endrick scored his first goal for the club in the 96th minute.

Speaking in his postmatch news conference, Ancelotti denied that Mbappé’s position at centre-forward — rather than starting off out wide — was limiting his ability to contribute to the team.

“No, I don’t think so at all,” Ancelotti said. “[Mbappé] is a spectacular forward, he’s very fast, and he moves well with the ball.

“He had three chances. I think in that position he’ll score, as he’s always scored. I don’t think he has to play on the left or the right. He’ll score goals.”

Ancelotti also praised Endrick, who signed for Madrid this summer after turning 18.

“He looks good,” Ancelotti said. “He has great potential, and with the goal, he showed all his qualities. He has good control, and a good shot.

“He’s a penalty box forward. In small spaces, he’s very, very dangerous.”

After a 1-1 draw against Real Mallorca on LaLiga’s opening weekend, Real Madrid bounced back with a 3-0 home victory over Real Valladolid as they begin their title defense.

The squad has been managing without key players, including midfielders Jude Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga, who are sidelined with injuries, and defender Ferland Mendy, who missed the Valladolid match due to suspension.

Madrid now looks ahead to a midweek trip to Las Palmas on Thursday, followed by a home clash against Real Betis next weekend.

Ancelloti reveals when Mbappe will make his Real Madrid debut

Carlo Ancelotti has shared when fans might see Kylian Mbappe make his debut for Real Madrid and offered an update on Jude Bellingham.

Mbappe, who completed his transfer to Real Madrid last month, is currently on an extended break and was not part of the team for their pre-season tour in the United States.

Despite not having played since the Euros semi-final against Spain, Ancelotti suggested that Mbappe could feature in Real Madrid’s opening competitive match of the 2024/25 season, which will be against Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup.

Speaking to reporters in the US, the Italian manager said, “Mbappe can obviously play in the Super Cup from the start. Jude Bellingham too and others. They are prepared, they have followed a plan and will all play.”

Jude Bellingham, like Mbappe, also stayed behind and did not join the team for the pre-season tour in the United States after helping England reach the Euro 2024 final.

Despite his vacation, Bellingham has adhered to a rigorous training program, according to Real Madrid’s manager, and could be ready to play against Serie A side Atalanta on August 14.

The Spanish champions, who were defeated in their initial friendlies against AC Milan and Barcelona, will look to conclude their tour with a victory over Chelsea in North Carolina on August 6.

Carlo Ancelotti ‘upset’ over Jude Bellingham ignoring his calls but picking Vinicius’ call

Jude Bellingham may be in trouble with Carlo Ancelotti after he blanked the Real Madrid manager’s phone call.
Speaking to reporters, Ancelotti revealed he “got angry with Bellingham” over the weekend.

The Madrid boss said: “I called him and he didn’t pick up and I told Vinicius to call him and he picked up.”

Ancelotti might have initially been “angry” about Bellingham’s behavior, but the Madrid talisman will be relieved that his boss now seems to laugh about the incident.

Other managers might have misinterpreted Bellingham’s cold shoulder, but Don Carlo is known for his cool demeanor.

Bellingham, still on holiday after his Euro 2024 performances, is expected to return for the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta on August 14.

Since joining the club last summer, Bellingham and Ancelotti have generally had a good relationship. However, it hasn’t been entirely smooth.

The England international was controversially benched early last season, and his strong personality sometimes leads to clashes with other players.

It’s very likely that any tension between Bellingham and Ancelotti will be resolved before Madrid’s next pre-season match against Chelsea at the Bank of America Stadium in North Carolina.

Coming off a 2-1 defeat to their rivals Barcelona, Los Blancos will be eager to return to winning form.

  • “I think this will be my last club” – Carlo Ancelotti on coaching job

“I think this will be my last club” – Carlo Ancelotti on coaching job

Carlo Ancelotti has said Real Madrid will be the last club of his coaching career, adding that he believes Vinícius Júnior deserves to win the Ballon d’Or.

The Italian manager has a contract with Madrid until June 2026, which will keep him at the Bernabéu past his 67th birthday.

“I think this will be my last club,” Ancelotti told told the Obi One Podcast.

“If there is an opportunity for a national team, I don’t know. I’m not so excited at coaching a national team because I would lose what I like most, the day-to-day. I really enjoy what I’m doing.

“This is my season number 29 as a coach. It’s true that I have won a lot but imagine the number of titles I lost.”

Ancelotti has managed some of the biggest clubs in the world, winning league titles, domestic cups and European honours during spells with AC Milan, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Madrid.

Ancelotti, who returned to the Bernabéu in 2021 for his second spell in charge, won LaLiga, the Champions League and the Spanish Super Cup last season.

In winning the Champions League, Ancelotti extended his record as the most successful coach in the continental competition’s history with five titles.

Brazil star Vinícius played a key role in Madrid winning the European trophy for a record 15th time.

Ancelotti believes Vinícius, who scored six goals and set up five more in 10 Champions League appearances, should be the favourite to win the prestigious Ballon d’Or.

“I think Vinícius is going to win because he is a talented player and he did really well last season,” he said.

“It’s true that [Real Madrid defender Dani] Carvajal did very well too. Carvajal won the league, the Champions League, scoring in the final, and won the European Championship [with Spain].

“But Vinícius is young, talented, he has a good image … He won the league and won the Champions League, scoring twice in the semifinal and scoring in the final.

“Jude [Bellingham] also had a fantastic season. He was a big surprise. The best player in the [domestic] league.”

Madrid have strengthened their attack this summer with the arrival of Endrick and Kylian Mbappé.

“We have built a fantastic squad,” Ancelotti said. “When Cristiano Ronaldo left in 2018, year after year we were able to bring in fantastic young players.

“Vinícius, Rodrygo and [Fede] Valverde, then [Eduardo] Camavinga, [Aurélien] Tchouaméni, Bellingham, Arda Güler and now Kylian Mbappé.

“We have a fantastic squad, with fantastic young talent. But the key point is the spirit that the veterans are able to keep in the squad, like Carvajal … This connection was really good to have success in the last few years.”

Ancelotti does not anticipate Mbappé, who joined Los Blancos as a free agent after his contract with PSG expired, having any issues adapting to the squad.

“I think it will not be a problem,” he said. “The key point is that every player has to put his talent at the service of the team and the teammates. For Kylian Mbappé it will be exactly the same.”

No signings for Real Madrid this summer – Carlo Ancelotti confirms

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has announced that the club will not be making any additional signings this summer, following the acquisitions of Kylian Mbappé and Endrick.

However, Los Blancos were unable to secure the signing of French centre-back Leny Yoro, who opted to join Manchester United instead.

Amid reports that the Spanish giants are still in the market for a centre-back following the departure of Nacho and Rafa Marín, Ancelotti said: “The squad is closed. [Jesús] Vallejo is back, [David] Alaba is recovering.

“We have young centre-backs like Joan, Jacobo and Raul [Asencio] who are training and have a lot of quality. I believe we are well covered in this position.”

Veteran defender Nacho has recently joined Saudi Arabian club Al Qadsiah, ending his two-decade tenure with Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, Marin, who was on loan at Deportivo Alavés last season, has completed a permanent transfer to Napoli. Additionally, Spain striker Joselu has left Madrid for Qatari club Al Gharafa.

Despite these departures, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti, who led the team to victories in LaLiga, the Champions League, and the Spanish Super Cup last season, does not anticipate any further player exits.

“No one will be leaving because everyone wants to stay,” Ancelotti said.

Ancelotti, meanwhile, admitted Madrid will have to adapt without Toni Kroos.

The German midfielder retired from football after Euro 2024 and having enjoyed a trophy-laden nine-year stay with Madrid.

“We are missing Kroos,” Ancelotti said. “But we have possibilities to replace him, although in a different way because there is no player like him, with his quality.

“But we have many other resources.”

Real Madrid will kick off their U.S. summer tour with a match against Ancelotti’s former club, AC Milan, on Wednesday at Soldier Field in Chicago.

Following that, they will face FC Barcelona in the Clásico on August 3 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The tour will conclude with a game against Chelsea on August 6 at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.

  • This is how Mbappe would be used in Real Madrid – Ancelotti reveals plan

This is how Mbappe would be used in Real Madrid – Ancelotti reveals plan

Real Madrid’s head coach, Carlo Ancelotti, has detailed his plan for integrating Kylian Mbappe into the squad for the upcoming season.

Ancelotti explained that Mbappe would primarily be deployed as a center forward or on the wings, based on what best suits him and the team.

He referenced Vinicius Junior, who, despite being a natural left winger, occasionally swapped positions with Rodrygo last season to fit the team’s strategy.

Ancelotti reassured that Mbappe’s position would not hinder Vinicius’ progress, addressing concerns about the potential overlap on the left wing.

In an interview with Nigerian footballer Mikel Obi, Ancelotti addressed these worries, stating, “I envision him [Mbappe] playing upfront. The attack is expansive.

The field spans 68 meters, and we need our forwards to cover this distance effectively. Vinicius can do this, as last season he predominantly played as a left winger. I believe that player mobility is key to offensive success.”

Ancelotti underscored the importance of adaptability and creativity among players, pointing out how Bellingham and Rodrygo have shown positional versatility.

He emphasized that players should be capable of shifting between different roles to maximize their impact in matches.

These remarks follow Mbappe’s signing of a five-year contract with Real Madrid, joining on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

“We’ll squeeze him in” – Carlo Ancelotti addresses Mbappe position in club

Carlo Ancelotti has assured that Kylian Mbappe will find his place at Real Madrid, despite some concerns about his positioning within the team.

Mbappe, who was unveiled to a crowd of 80,000 last week, joined Real Madrid on a free transfer after leaving Paris Saint-Germain.

His role at the Santiago Bernabeu has raised questions due to the intense competition for attacking positions.

Ancelotti now faces the challenge of integrating Mbappe into a potent attacking lineup that already includes Vinicius Jr., Rodrygo, and Jude Bellingham.

Mbappe has primarily played as a left winger, but with Vinicius Jr. currently occupying that spot, Ancelotti may need to devise a new tactical approach for the 2024-25 season.

Speaking at the Giffoni Film Festival, Ancelotti said when quizzed on where Real’s new galactico will play: “It is my responsibility to find a place for Mbappe. We’ll find a place for him, we’ll squeeze him in.”

Spanish reports indicate that Ancelotti may consider repositioning Kylian Mbappe to a central role to optimize his impact and adjust the team’s attacking setup. Under this plan, Vinicius Jr. would maintain his role on the left wing, while Rodrygo would continue on the right.

Jude Bellingham might be shifted further back into midfield, potentially filling the role left by German great Toni Kroos, who retired following Euro 2024.

Mbappe is currently on a break after a demanding 2023-24 season with PSG and the French national team.

He is anticipated to make his debut for Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup final against Atalanta on August 14, provided he has fully recovered from the broken nose he sustained during Euro 2024.

  • Real Madrid to snub Club World Cup place over poor incentives – Ancelotti hints

Real Madrid to snub Club World Cup place over poor incentives – Ancelotti hints

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has announced that the club will not participate in the inaugural edition of FIFA’s new Club World Cup tournament next summer, citing insufficient financial incentive.

This expanded competition is scheduled to take place in the United States in June and July 2025, featuring 32 teams from various continents including Africa, Asia, Europe, the Americas, and Oceania.

So far, 29 of the 32 spots have been secured, with Real Madrid qualifying by winning the Champions League titles in 2022 and 2024.

However, in an interview with the Italian newspaper Il Giornale on Monday, Ancelotti revealed that Madrid, along with several other unnamed clubs, does not plan to participate.

“Players and clubs won’t participate in that tournament,” Ancelotti said. “One single Real Madrid game is worth €20 million, and FIFA want to give us that amount for the entire competition. Negative.

“Just like us, other clubs will refuse the invitation.”

The revamped FIFA Club World Cup is the flagship initiative for world football’s governing body, as they look to replicate the success of club competitions such as the Champions League and the Copa Libertadores.

The last edition of the Club World Cup’s previous incarnation, in Saudi Arabia in December 2023, featured just seven teams and was won by Manchester City, who beat Brazilian side Fluminense in the final.

The new format, first announced in 2022, is set to include 12 teams from UEFA, six from CONMEBOL, four each from CONCACAF, CAF and the AFC, one from Oceania’s OFC and one from the host country.

Those teams qualify via either a “champions pathway” — winning their continent’s club competition — or a “ranking pathway” based on previous performance.

The tournament has faced criticism from domestic leagues and players’ unions, who argue that players are being overworked.

Speaking last month, FIFA president Gianni Infantino rejected those claims.

“FIFA is organizing around 1% of the games of the top clubs in the world,” Infantino said. “When it comes to the national teams, it is very similar.

“If you look at all the national team games around the world, we still have between 1% and 2% of the matches which are organized by FIFA. All other matches, 98% to 99%, are organized by other organizations.”

“With this 1% or 2% matches that FIFA organizes, FIFA is financing football all over the world… I hope that these figures will stop this futile debate.”
Ancelotti is on holiday in Vancouver, Canada, after a season that saw him lead the club to a Champions League and LaLiga double.

He told Il Giornale that he had not given up hope of convincing Toni Kroos to change his mind on retirement, after the midfielder said he would hang up his boots after playing in this summer’s European Championship with Germany.

“Unfortunately Kroos has decided to stop, he is a German in his choices, but he will continue to live in Madrid,” Ancelotti said. “I told him that if, in the autumn, he had to change his mind, a phone call and we’ll start again.”

Today marks the 65th birthday of Carlo Ancelotti, the esteemed coach of Real Madrid.

Born on June 10, 1959, in Reggiolo, Italy, Ancelotti boasts an illustrious career, having clinched every possible trophy during his tenure at the club.

Across his two spells at Real Madrid, Ancelotti has amassed an impressive collection of accolades, including 3 Champions League titles, 2 Club World Cups, 2 European Super Cups, 2 Spanish Super Cups, 2 La Liga triumphs, 2 Copa del Rey victories, and 2 additional Spanish Super Cups.

A significant highlight in Ancelotti’s coaching journey is his remarkable success in the European Cup.

Fondly remembered as La Décima, he secured Real Madrid’s tenth European Cup victory during his inaugural year as head coach in 2014.

Remarkably, he replicated this feat upon his return to the club, securing La Decimocuarta in 2022 and adding to his legacy with La Decimocquinta this season.

With these triumphs, Ancelotti has etched his name in history as the sole coach to have clinched the European Cup a remarkable five times.

This year, Ancelotti further solidified his legendary status by guiding Real Madrid to yet another league title.

Notably, he achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first coach to conquer all five major European leagues, showcasing his unparalleled expertise across Spain, Italy, Germany, England, and France.

“Salmon, pasta and a nap” – Ancelotti reveals anti-stress pre-match routine

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has shared his pre-match routine leading up to the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund.

The 64-year-old revealed that he plans to stick to his customary pre-match meal of salmon and pasta before the crucial encounter with Dortmund on Saturday.

Ancelotti intends to follow this with a nap to rest and recharge before delivering his team talk to players such as Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior, and Rodrygo.

Madrid boss revealed his pre-match routine ahead of the final, telling reporters: “I like to eat. Salmon and pasta. And then an hour-long nap, if I’m able (laughs).

Before the team talk, the heart begins to rise to 120 beats and is there until the start of the game, when it begins, it returns to its normal rhythm.

“We are going to focus on offensive and defensive work. The important thing is to have clear ideas of what to do. I have to give information to the players so that they are clear about what to do.

For them it is the best way to relieve stress, you don’t think about other things that can stress you out.”

Madrid secured their spot in the final after a thrilling two-legged semi-final victory over Bayern Munich.

The first leg ended in a 2-2 draw in Germany, but a late double from substitute Joselu sealed a 2-1 win for Los Blancos at the Bernabeu Stadium.

Ancelotti’s squad is now set to face Dortmund in the final, following the Bundesliga giants’ progression past Paris Saint-Germain in their own semi-final.

The final showdown between Madrid and Dortmund will be held at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, marking the culmination of the 2023-24 season for Ancelotti.

The seasoned manager, eyeing his fifth Champions League trophy, last lifted the prestigious title in 2022 when Vinicius Junior’s goal secured a 1-0 victory over Liverpool in Paris.

Harry Kane was Ancelotti’s number 1 target, until Florentino blocked move

It is reported that, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez vetoed coach Carlo Ancelotti’s proposal to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham last summer.

Ancelotti had prioritized Kane as his top transfer target over Jude Bellingham after Karim Benzema’s departure for Al-Ittihad.

However, Perez was determined to secure Kylian Mbappe instead and was prepared to operate without a recognized striker until signing the French forward on a free transfer in the upcoming summer.

Kane eventually joined Bayern Munich from Spurs and has enjoyed a remarkable debut season, despite his team’s struggles domestically.

He has netted 42 goals in as many appearances across all competitions, aiding Thomas Tuchel’s side in reaching the Champions League semi-finals, where they will face Madrid.

It seems Perez’s ambitions are set to materialize as Madrid is expected to secure Mbappe’s signature in the next transfer window.

Although Mbappe has informed Paris Saint-Germain of his intention to depart when his contract expires, no agreement with Madrid has been finalized yet.

Ancelotti’s Madrid is slated to clash with Kane’s Bayern in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals in Germany on Tuesday, followed by the return fixture in Spain the following Wednesday. The victors will advance to face either Mbappe’s PSG or Borussia Dortmund in the final.

The Brazilian midfielder had spent a fruitful nine years at the Bernabéu before departing for United in a transfer deal initially valued at £60 million ($74.6m).

“I haven’t told this to anyone before,” Casemiro told El Chiringuito de Jugones. “I only doubted my move to Manchester once. I remember it was a Friday afternoon and [the transfer to United] was all but done except for my signature. People knew that it was done.

“I went to speak with Ancelotti. I went into his office and he already knew. I opened the door and when I turned [towards him], Ancelotti was crying. I told him: ‘You can’t be crying. Anyone but you.”

“He told me: ‘Case, I don’t know why I’m crying, but I’m very fond of you and I don’t want you to leave.’ That was the moment [I doubted]… I realised how many people loved me there. But I had already given my word, and my word is more important than anything else.”

Spanish prosecutors ponder jail term for Ancelotti for tax fraud; he claims innocence

Spanish state prosecutors are seeking a prison sentence of four years and nine months for Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti over allegations of tax fraud against the country’s tax authorities.

According to a statement issued by Madrid’s regional state prosecutor on Wednesday, Ancelotti, aged 64, is accused of committing two instances of tax fraud between 2014 and 2015 related to his income from image rights, totaling more than €1 million ($1.09 million).

Following Real Madrid’s victory over RB Leipzig with a 2-1 aggregate scoreline to advance to the Champions League quarterfinals, Ancelotti refuted the allegations.

“It’s an old story that started years ago,” he told Movistar. “The prosecutor’s office thinks that I was a resident [for tax purposes] and we think I wasn’t. I’ve paid the fine and the money is with the prosecutor’s office.

“I’m convinced that I’m innocent. Let’s see what the judge decides.”

The prosecutor’s statement said that in his income tax filings, the Italian coach “omitted the income corresponding to the exploitation of his image rights that he had transferred to other entities.”

“The Spanish Treasury calculated the loss incurred taking into account rents and income omitted and refunds obtained at €1,062,079 (€386,361 in fiscal year 2014 and €675,718 in fiscal year 2015),” the prosecutor added.

Ancelotti first joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2013 but was later dismissed in May 2015. After a hiatus, he returned to lead the team in June 2021 and has recently extended his contract until June 2026.

Over the past decade, Spanish tax authorities have scrutinised numerous players and coaches for potential tax irregularities, often related to earnings from image rights.

In 2016, Lionel Messi was found guilty of tax fraud and faced a fine to avoid a prison sentence, while Cristiano Ronaldo admitted to fraud in 2019 and agreed to pay a hefty fine of €19 million.

Similarly, Xabi Alonso was cleared of fraud charges in 2019, a verdict upheld by Spain’s Supreme Court in 2021. The court ruled that Alonso had not attempted to conceal income by transferring his image rights to an offshore entity.

Jude Bellingham is back in his best form; 100% – Ancelloti on the ‘young star’s’ return

    Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti
has announced that Jude Bellingham will make his comeback from injury in the upcoming match against Valencia this weekend.

Bellingham had been sidelined for three weeks after twisting his ankle during the match against Girona at the beginning of February, causing him to miss the subsequent three games. During this period, Real Madrid only managed to score three goals.

Despite Bellingham’s absence, Real Madrid’s performance hasn’t suffered significantly, with their only dropped points occurring in a 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano.

Bellingham returned to training on Friday, and Ancelotti confirmed that he is fully fit and ready to play.

“He is one hundred percent; everything he has done and needed to do on an individual level is fine, he is comfortable with his ankle; he is at his best; he is going to play.”

Ancelotti further confirmed that Joselu Mato would be making his return from injury, having missed several games due to ankle swelling. Despite initial expectations of a longer recovery period, the veteran forward has managed to recuperate ahead of schedule.

This development brings Real Madrid closer to full strength ahead of their upcoming matches against Valencia and RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

Currently, only David Alaba, Eder Militao, and Thibaut Courtois remain sidelined as they continue their recovery from anterior cruciate ligament injuries. Ancelotti also mentioned the possibility of Courtois and Militao returning to action next month.

Modric gives Real Madrid late winner over Sevilla in an exquisite goal

Luka Modric showcased his enduring brilliance with a magnificent late goal against Sevilla, propelling Real Madrid to a commanding eight-point lead at the summit of La Liga.

Despite the absence of England midfielder Jude Bellingham for Real Madrid in his third consecutive match, the game appeared destined for a stalemate.

However, the 38-year-old Croatian midfielder, Modric, delivered a moment of magic just seven minutes after coming on as a substitute, curling in a sublime strike.

Modric has only started in 11 of his 21 La Liga appearances this season, raising questions about his playing time. With his contract set to expire in June, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti acknowledged that Modric may feel disappointed with his limited opportunities.

“He shows everyone how hard it is for me to leave him on the bench, Ancelotti said.

“Not just for the goal he scored, but for how he trains. He is an example to the whole squad. It’s very complicated to leave him on the bench.”

Ancelotti said Modric’s contract situation was also “complicated,” adding: “It’s hard to manage. I was once a player and went through it in my last year as a professional player.

“I would understand if Modric was a little bit upset if he is not playing. Everyone thinks he is at the end of his career, but I think he doesn’t agree with that. He looks to be well, fresh. He’s got legs. He doesn’t seem like he is 38.”

Before Modric’s decisive goal, Lucas Vazquez saw his effort disallowed for the hosts due to a VAR review. The Real Madrid full-back’s goal was nullified after the review determined that home defender Nacho had committed a foul on forward Youssef En-Nesyri during the build-up.

Despite Federico Valverde hitting the post early in the second half for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, Sevilla’s defense, led by former Real Madrid stalwart Sergio Ramos, remained resolute.

Barcelona, currently in second place with 57 points, are closely followed by Girona, who are one point behind. Girona will play their postponed fixture against Rayo Vallecano on Monday (20:00 GMT), providing them with an opportunity to close the gap on the top two teams.

Benzema is not coming back; ignore the lies—Ancelotti on player’s return

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has refuted rumours suggesting that he requested the re-signing of Karim Benzema.

Benzema, aged 36, departed the Bernabeu last summer after 14 years and joined Al Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League.

Despite winning the 2022 Ballon d’Or, Benzema is reportedly unhappy in the Gulf nation and desires a return to Europe.

Ancelotti dismissed claims that he discussed Benzema’s return with club president Florentino Perez, stating, “It’s a lie. We have not spoken about this with the club.”

Additionally, Ancelotti rejected Barcelona president Joan Laporta’s assertion that La Liga is “corrupted” and suggested Madrid benefits from favourable decisions by match officials.

Controversial VAR interventions in Madrid’s recent victory over Almería fueled the ongoing debate about the club’s in-house television channel broadcasting videos highlighting contentious refereeing decisions before each match.

“I don’t like to talk about controversies,” Ancelotti said. “Much has been said this week. La Liga is not corrupted.”

Ancelotti then referred to the Negreira case, which has Barça under scrutiny.

“Everyone knows what has happened in the last 20 years in Spanish football,” Ancelotti said. “We cannot divert attention. Spanish football has had a problem. Investigations are being carried out by the Spanish Civil Guard. We have to give them time and wait. “

Laporta is at the centre of the Negreira case.

He and Barça were charged with alleged corruption and bribery over payments the club made to the former vice president of the Spanish refereeing committee, Jose María Enriquez Negreira, between 2001 and 2018.

Laporta has said the payments were for “technical reports about referees” and has repeatedly denied the club has ever “bought referees or influence.”

Negreira is to testify as a defendant over the payments after a judge dismissed his dementia claim on Thursday, judicial sources confirmed to EFE.

On Friday, Brazil’s interim coach, Fernando Diniz, faced dismissal from the country’s soccer federation (CBF).

According to a statement from the CBF, President Ednaldo Rodrigues communicated to Diniz his intention to “advance the process of choosing a permanent coach.”

Diniz took on the role of interim coach for the five-time World Cup winners in July, under a one-year contract.

The federation initially aimed to secure Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti as a permanent replacement, envisioning his availability after the conclusion of his contract with the Spanish giants this summer.

However, Ancelotti recently extended his contract with Madrid through 2026.

With Ancelotti out of contention, Rodrigues has opted to expedite the search for a permanent replacement for Tite, who resigned after Brazil’s quarterfinal exit in the 2022 World Cup.

“The CBF thanks Fernando Diniz for his work, his dedication, his seriousness and for the challenge of revamping Brazil,” a statement said.

The decision was taken one day after Rodrigues returned to his role following a decision from Brazil’s Supreme Court.

Rodrigues and all his executives had been removed from their jobs on Dec. 7 after a Rio de Janeiro court ruling on irregularities in the 2022 election process.

São Paulo coach Dorival Junior is the current front-runner to take over as permanent head coach, with Rodrigues having already spoken to São Paulo president Julio Casares, sources told ESPN Brasil.

São Paulo are unwilling to let their coach leave for free and have asked the CBF to pay a fee to terminate Dorival’s contract, which will be around R$4.5 million ($920,000), sources said.

Diniz remained the head coach of Fluminense during his time with Brazil, leading them to the Copa Libertadores title in November.

However, he oversaw a disappointing start to Brazil’s campaign to qualify for the 2026 World Cup in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

Brazil have lost three of their first six matches and sit in sixth place in the standings.

Only the top six teams qualify automatically from South America, with seventh place entering a playoff.

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti backs Barca’s Xavi amid dismissal pressure, says “he is a great coach”

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has expressed admiration for Barcelona boss Xavi amid speculation that the Blaugrana coach could be at risk of losing his job.

Despite Barcelona’s recent struggles, finding themselves seven points behind league leaders Girona, Ancelotti has urged the Catalan team to support Xavi through the challenging period.

In a pre-match press conference, Ancelotti stuck up for the under-fire manager, telling reporters: “In general, it’s normal for a coach to have criticism.

We have to accept it and then everyone can choose the criticisms that they consider fair and unfair.

“The judgement of the coaches is only based on the results. No one cares about the coach’s methodology or ability to manage the locker room. It’s only if he wins or doesn’t win and Xavi knows this very well. For me, he is a great coach.”

Despite the increasing pressure on Xavi, Barcelona has experienced relative success in Europe this year. The Blaugrana advanced to the Champions League knockout stages for the first time in three years and secured the top spot in their group.

Ancelotti will be on the sidelines as Real Madrid face Villarreal tomorrow evening. A victory would temporarily place them at the top of La Liga, with Girona scheduled to play on Monday night.

  • Real Madrid not ready to extend contract with Luka Modric

Real Madrid not ready to extend contract with Luka Modric

Real Madrid is set to part ways with Luka Modric as the club has decided not to offer the midfielder a new contract, bringing an end to his remarkable 12-year stint in the Spanish capital next summer.

Recognized as one of the greatest midfielders of all time, the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner has been instrumental in securing numerous trophies for Los Blancos since his move from Tottenham in 2012.

According to Sport, both the club and the player have reached an understanding that a new contract won’t be extended, paving the way for Modric’s departure in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Reports throughout the season have indicated that the 38-year-old has been discontent with his playing time under Carlo Ancelotti.

Consequently, Modric has been linked with several clubs, including a potential move to Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami and a reunion with Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi Pro League.

The midfield maestro, breaking the longstanding dominance of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, clinched the Ballon d’Or in 2018 for his outstanding contributions with Real Madrid and leading Croatia to their first World Cup final.

Modric’s win interrupted the continuous streak of victories for the Messi-Ronaldo duo, which began in 2008 with Ronaldo’s triumph.

While the former Tottenham Hotspur star is scheduled to return to league action against Villarreal on Sunday, December 17, there are expectations that he might once again find himself on the bench.

  • Real Madrid appears to want an Ancelotti contract extension, crushing Brazil links

Real Madrid appears to want an Ancelotti contract extension, crushing Brazil links

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti seems to be leaning towards extending his tenure at the Bernabeu rather than pursuing a move to coach the Brazil national team, as contract discussions are set to commence.

Initially anticipated to part ways with Los Blancos at the season’s end for the Brazil role, Ancelotti’s potential departure is now met with hesitation by Real Madrid, given their La Liga title contention and Champions League ambitions.

According to Marca, talks regarding Ancelotti’s future are expected to take place with Madrid president Florentino Perez in the upcoming days.

Despite earlier speculations linking Xabi Alonso, Raul, and Roberto De Zerbi as potential replacements, their services may no longer be sought.

Ancelotti has steered Real Madrid to second place in La Liga, closely trailing surprise leaders Girona by two points.

The team’s dynamic performances, spearheaded by players like Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo, and Vinicius Jr., have contributed to their current standing.

With an impressive track record of four Champions League titles, the most by any manager, Ancelotti aims to secure a fifth title, surpassing his closest active competitor, Pep Guardiola, who has three.

As Real Madrid faces Villarreal on Sunday evening in an effort to narrow the gap with Girona, Ancelotti’s potential continued tenure beyond this season seeks to solidify his position among the club’s greatest managers by adding more trophies to their extensive collection.

  • Jude Bellingham’s availability – Ancelotti offers updates on youngsters fitness

Jude Bellingham’s availability – Ancelotti offers updates on youngsters fitness

Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that Jude Bellingham is still struggling with a shoulder injury despite a goal-scoring return for Real Madrid.

The midfielder missed consecutive matches leading up to the international break, having been compelled to withdraw from the England squad for the last two Euro 2024 qualifiers due to a shoulder dislocation suffered against Rayo Vallecano.

Despite this setback, he made a comeback in the starting lineup against Cadiz on Sunday and showcased his prowess by contributing to a 3-0 away victory with a well-placed finish past the goalkeeper in the 74th minute.

However, Bellingham was substituted shortly afterward, and his manager, Ancelotti, acknowledged that the star player has not yet fully recuperated from his recent injury.

Addressing reporters, the Italian tactician stated, “Bellingham is doing well. He still has the lingering issue, but he is managing fine with the protective measures.”

Bellingham’s recent goal brings his total to 14 in 15 games across all competitions since joining the Bernabeu in a high-profile transfer, surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 13 in the same number of matches.

The management of the 20-year-old’s injury will be a point of interest moving forward, considering he is not fully fit at the moment.

Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that he is set to face Napoli in the Champions League on Wednesday, followed by a weekend match against Granada.

  • Real Madrid mull contract renewal for Carlo Ancelotti, reports suggest

Real Madrid mull contract renewal for Carlo Ancelotti, reports suggest

Ancelotti’s future at Real Madrid hangs in the balance as his existing contract in the Spanish capital approaches its conclusion at the close of the 2023–24 season.

The Italian manager, currently in his second stint with the La Liga powerhouse, has steered the club to two successful seasons, prompting varied opinions on Real Madrid’s decision after his current contract concludes.

Reports from Marca suggest that the Brazilian national team is closely monitoring Ancelotti, expressing admiration and a desire for him to potentially become their coach in the future.

Despite Ancelotti consistently downplaying links with the Selecao, speculation about his potential takeover of the Brazilian national team persists.

Amidst the ongoing discussions regarding the future of the former AC Milan manager, Spanish outlet Relevo has reported that Real Madrid is contemplating extending Ancelotti’s tenure at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

According to Relevo’s report, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez views Ancelotti as the ideal candidate to lead the team, and discussions are underway regarding a contract renewal.

Perez seeks to deter Ancelotti from the prospect of coaching Brazil by proposing a contract that could include an initial year with a 12-month extension option.

Conversely, the Brazilian national team is reportedly inclined towards offering a straightforward deal.

However, the final decision rests with the 64-year-old manager, who must determine if he remains motivated by the challenges Real Madrid presents, along with the added expectation of securing at least one major trophy in 2024.

  • Sergio Ramos is the reason I have this job – Ancelotti

Sergio Ramos is the reason I have this job – Ancelotti

Carlo Ancelotti, as he readies himself to confront Sevilla’s defender Sergio Ramos in La Liga this Saturday, expressed his gratitude to the player.

Ancelotti acknowledged that he wouldn’t hold his current position as Real Madrid’s manager if it weren’t for Ramos.

During Ancelotti’s initial tenure as Madrid’s coach from 2013 to 2015, Ramos played a pivotal role, marked by his iconic 93rd-minute equalizer in the club’s 2014 Champions League final victory against Atletico Madrid—a goal etched in the annals of the club’s history.

Ramos, the former captain of Madrid and Spain, made a return to his hometown club Sevilla as a free agent last month after departing from Paris Saint-Germain.

“I’d love to see [Ramos] and say hello,” Ancelotti said in a news conference on Friday. “I have affection for all the players I’ve had, but above all, I have special affection for him.

“If I’m here today, it’s because of Sergio Ramos. If he hadn’t scored the goal in the [Champions League] final, I probably wouldn’t be here. For that, and for everything he did for this club, everybody has a lot of affection for him. He’ll play well for sure. Let’s hope he doesn’t score but if he does, he can celebrate however he wants!”

Ancelotti returned to coaching Madrid in 2021 and won the La Liga and Champions League double in his first season back. However, he has been the subject of rumours over his future due to rumours of a job in Brazil after failing to win both of those titles the previous year.

“As I’ve often said, I’m very happy at Real Madrid. I’ll stop there,” he said on Friday when asked if he’d like to renew his contract. “You made it difficult for me with that question! Would I like to renew or not? I don’t talk about my future.”

Madrid currently leads La Liga with 24 points, maintaining a three-point lead over Barcelona, who are in third place. This sets the stage for the highly anticipated El Clásico match between the two giants next week.

During the international break, a few Madrid players expressed their concerns about their recent roles under Ancelotti.

This included midfielders Eduardo Camavinga and Aurélien Tchouaméni being asked to adapt to unfamiliar positions such as left-back and centre-back.

Additionally, Rodrygo voiced his lack of enthusiasm for playing as a centre forward.

“Sometimes you have to make sacrifices,” Ancelotti said. “Like Camavinga has, like Tchouameni has, like Rodrygo has sometimes… The demands of the team come first, followed by individual demands.

“If I pick Camavinga at left-back, I’ll inform him that he’s playing there and ask, ‘can you do it?’ Nobody has said no.

“Speaking of Sergio Ramos, I picked him at pivot in a game against Atletico Madrid. Obviously, he didn’t like it. But with the demands of the game, I did it. There’s a word for it, altruism.”

  • Shameful! Makes me angry! Ancelotti fumes over newspaper calling Vini Jr a liar in racial abuse trial

Shameful! Makes me angry! Ancelotti fumes over newspaper calling Vini Jr a liar in racial abuse trial

Carlo Ancelotti has expressed his disapproval of the media’s coverage of Vinícius Júnior’s testimony during the trial of three individuals accused of racially insulting him.

Ancelotti mentioned that certain parties are “trying to change the subject” by concentrating on the player.

Vinícius Júnior, the Real Madrid forward, provided his testimony to a Valencia court on Thursday through a video link, recounting the incident that occurred at Valencia’s Mestalla stadium on May 21.

Valencia CF has issued a statement calling on Vinicius to “publicly rectify” his reported testimony that the entire stadium had participated in racist abuse against him, while the Valencia-based newspaper Superdeporte called the player “Pinochius”—a reference to Pinocchio—and said he had “lied to the judge” in their frontpage story on Friday.

“They’re trying to change the subject,” Ancelotti said in a news conference on Friday. “The point is that Vinicius was the victim of racist insults. Whether it was one [fan], ten, a thousand or ten thousand, that doesn’t change the point.

“We had a player who was the victim of racist insults and now there’s a court case. Some of the media want to change the subject. That’s a shame, and it makes me angry.”

“[Vinicius] is fine; he’s motivated as always,” Ancelotti added. “I haven’t spoken to him. I don’t know what he said; nobody knows what he said in court. But he’s fine and happy to play tomorrow.”

Real Madrid is scheduled to take on Osasuna in a LaLiga encounter at the Bernabeu this Saturday. What adds an intriguing dimension is that the Bernabeu is currently being discussed as a prospective venue for the World Cup final.

“This development comes after Spain was chosen as one of the co-hosts for the 2030 edition of the tournament.

“The World Cup final should be played in Madrid,” Ancelotti said. “Madrid is the capital of Spain, and [it should be] at the Bernabeu because the Bernabeu is going to be the best stadium in the world, simple as that.”

The new Bernabeu is nearing completion after a five-year, €900 million redevelopment, which is expected to be completed in December.

“It’s good news for Spain to have a World Cup,” Ancelotti said. “Not all the games, but some of the games. It’s great for Spanish football.”

Madrid will face Osasuna with just one available senior centre-back, Antonio Rüdiger, after David Alaba failed to recover from an abductor injury in time, with Éder Militão out long-term, and Nacho Fernandez suspended.

“Alaba isn’t back to his best so he won’t play tomorrow,” Ancelotti said. “We have three options; two of them are [Aurelien] Tchouameni and [Ferland] Mendy. We’ll adapt well. The defensive work is that of the team, not individuals.”

Heading into the weekend, Real Madrid holds the top position in La Liga, maintaining a one-point lead over the defending champions, Barcelona. Meanwhile, Barcelona is scheduled to play against Granada on Sunday.

  • Ancelotti speaks on Modric’s Inter Miami links

Ancelotti speaks on Modric’s Inter Miami links

Carlo Ancelotti has stated that he has received no indication that Luka Modric is interested in leaving Real Madrid to join Lionel Messi in the MLS.

There has been widespread speculation suggesting that the Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder is exploring his options due to limited playing time with the Blancos in the 2023–24 season.

His contract with the club is set to expire next summer, which could potentially allow for an early departure to be negotiated in January.

Messi, who boasts seven Ballon d’Or awards, is reportedly eager to see Modric join him as the latest high-profile signing for Inter Miami.

The Florida-based team, co-owned by former ‘Galactico’ David Beckham, has already brought in former Barcelona stars Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.

While there may be an opportunity for Modric to be pursued as a free agent at the beginning of 2024, Ancelotti maintains that the 38-year-old Croatian playmaker is not actively seeking a move.

The Blancos boss has said when responding to the transfer rumours: “I don’t think he’s raising it (leaving in January). We think he’s very important and he knows it too. He doesn’t have that thought and we’re happy with him.”

Modric made the transition to Real Madrid from the Premier League’s Tottenham in 2012 and has since amassed 496 appearances for the La Liga powerhouse.

During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in securing three domestic titles and clinching five Champions League trophies, earning recognition as the world’s best player in 2018.

  • Barcelona’s referee bribery case a worry for Ancelotti

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed his concerns on Friday regarding the bribery case involving Spanish champions Barcelona.

“A Spanish judge charged Barcelona and several of their former directors with bribery on Thursday after alleged payments to Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, who was a former Spanish refereeing vice president.”

“Negreira allegedly earned over seven million euros ($7.5 million) from Barcelona between 2001 and 2018 through companies supposedly producing refereeing reports for the club.”

“Police on Thursday raided Spain’s football refereeing headquarters on the outskirts of Madrid as part of a probe into the payments made by Barcelona.”

“I am worried like everyone in the football world about such a serious topic, but justice is working on it, and we have to let justice run its course,” Ancelotti told a news conference.

He continued: “I’ve been living for 40 years in this world (of football), and when these types of things happen, everyone is worried.

“I hope that justice can do its job and reach a solution.”

Barcelona coach Xavi said Thursday he had never noticed any preferential treatment in his playing days at the club.

“I never had the sensation that the referees favoured us, ever,” he told reporters at a press conference ahead of Barcelona’s clash with Sevilla on Friday.

Ancelotti says defender Antonio Rudiger will be fine after suffering some discomfort in the midweek win over Las Palmas, while he hopes to have David Alaba back for Tuesday’s visit to Napoli in the Champions League.

“We have to do things well to play a complete game, make sure the team has balance, defend well and when we have the ball, show the quality that we have to damage them,” said Ancelotti.

The coach said winger Vinicius Junior, who made his comeback from injury against Las Palmas as a substitute, would start on the visit to Montilivi.

Felix and Cancelo strike in Barca demolition of Betis
Girona’s own Brazilian wide man, Savinho, has excelled at the start of the season and helped the Catalan minnows, only in the top flight for the fourth season in their history, to fly.

“He’s a young player who is doing very well… he’s showing a lot of quality,” added Ancelotti.

“(But) I think we have the resources and experiences.

  • Ancelotti blames Real Madrid’s loss on himself and defensive fragility in loss against Atletico

Ancelotti blames Real Madrid’s loss on himself and defensive fragility in loss against Atletico

Carlo Ancelotti has assumed responsibility for Real Madrid’s loss in the derby against Atletico, although he continues to emphasise that their “defensive vulnerability” was the primary factor behind the defeat.

Real Madrid suffered a surprising defeat to Atletico at the Wanda Metropolitano, with Alvaro Morata scoring twice and Antoine Griezmann adding another goal, despite Toni Kroos’ long-range strike.

This defeat marked Real’s first loss of the season, and while Ancelotti is willing to shoulder the blame, he underscores that their “defensive fragility” was the key issue rather than any tactical shortcomings.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Ancelotti said: “We didn’t start well or defend well. When they went 2-0 up, they played the game they wanted to. Atleti did better than us in this sense.”

“I think the system was not a problem, but rather defensive fragility,

“We were not compact and they took advantage of it.”

“When the team doesn’t do what it has to do, it’s my responsibility. I shoulder that; it’s my fault.”
Real are back in action on Wednesday against Las Palmas in La Liga.

  • Ancelotti scores Man City as favourites to win Champions League

Ancelotti scores Man City as favourites to win Champions League

The 64-year-old manager of Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti, emphasised on Tuesday that his team never regards themselves as favourites to win the Champions League, despite their illustrious history in the competition.

He pointed out that bookmakers are favouring the defending champions, Manchester City.

Real Madrid, who secured their 14th European Cup victory in 2022 but were defeated by Manchester City in the semi-finals last season, are set to kick off their Group C campaign with a home match against Union Berlin on Wednesday.

In addition to Union Berlin, they will also face Napoli, the Serie A champions, and Braga from Portugal during the group stage.

“City are favourites because they have a squad that saw them win it last season and they haven’t changed much.

“However, in the Champions League, like always, there are surprises at the end,” Ancelotti told reporters ahead of facing Union at the Bernabeu.

“Real Madrid are a team that is going to fight until the end. We never think of ourselves as favourites, just as I think City don’t. They won it last year, they can win the Champions League.

Real may be taking on Champions League debutants Union, but Ancelotti stressed they would not take the Germans lightly.

“They’re a new team in the Champions League but the fact they’re here means they’ve done very well. They’re well organised defensively, they’re solid and they play with intensity…,” he said.

“The Champions League is a special competition for us. We’re going to treat tomorrow’s game as something special. We want to get off to a good start in the group stage and we’re playing at home.”

The Italian added that Dani Carvajal (31) would be rested for Wednesday’s game, but said the right back would likely be available for their LaLiga clash at Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

“Carvajal has a strain and we wanted to rest him to avoid problems,” Ancelotti said. “He feels good and we don’t think it’s anything serious, so hopefully he’ll be back soon.

“As things stand today, he has a chance of playing on Sunday. The player’s general condition is pretty good. Lucas Vazquez (32) will play in place of Carvajal (against the Union).”

  • Ancelotti happy with Real Madrid’s ‘quality’ squad

Ancelotti happy with Real Madrid’s ‘quality’ squad

Carlo Ancelotti has affirmed his contentment with the Real Madrid squad as the transfer window draws to a close. This is despite the fact that the team is currently dealing with the absence of key players, namely Thibaut Courtois, Eder Militao, and Vinicius Junior, due to injuries.

Vinicius is expected to be sidelined for approximately six weeks due to a thigh injury, which has left Rodrygo Goes and Joselu as the only two senior forwards available for Madrid.

Furthermore, the club addressed Courtois’s absence, caused by an ACL tear, by bringing in Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan.

“I’m very happy,” Ancelotti said in a news conference on Friday. “We did what we had to do early. When the season started, everything was done. The squad is competitive, with quality, energy and experience.

“We’ve had [injury] problems as you do during the season, but the squad is good and we can replace those players without any problems… We’ll replace [Vinicius] with a player with different characteristics, so we’ll try to adapt the way we attack.”

Madrid’s biggest signing was Jude Bellingham, who’s made an instant impact so far with four goals in three games, and will make his home debut at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday against Getafe.

“The fans will be happy to see him live in the stadium,” Ancelotti said. “He’s got such a big personality. He’ll be happy to play at the Bernabeu for the first time.”

  • We are not looking for Courtois replacement – Carlo Ancelotti

We are not looking for Courtois replacement – Carlo Ancelotti

    Real Madrid’s coach, Carlo Ancelotti,
stated on Friday that the club is not actively pursuing a new goalkeeper in the transfer market to replace the injured Thibaut Courtois as the new La Liga season approaches.

Courtois is facing an extended absence from a significant portion of the season due to a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, which occurred during a training session on Thursday.

However, Ancelotti expressed confidence in Ukrainian backup goalkeeper Andriy Lunin’s ability to step in for Courtois. Courtois, who was honoured with the Yashin Trophy last year as the world’s top goalkeeper, will be temporarily replaced by Lunin.

“We have total confidence in Lunin, who is a great goalkeeper,” Ancelotti told a press conference ahead of Real’s La Liga opener at Athletic Bilbao on Saturday.

“He’s been very good during pre-season. He’s talented, and what he lacks is what all young players lack – experience, the experience he’s going to gain day by day.”
Ancelotti said the club may still look to bolster its goalkeeping options.

“We still have time until August 31,” he added. “We’ll see in the next few days if we’re going to recruit another goalkeeper, to make up the numbers, because we count on Lunin.”

This season will mark the start of a new era at Madrid following the departure of Karim Benzema for Saudi Arabia after 14 years at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The 14-time European champions have not signed an obvious replacement for their second-highest scorer of all-time, although they have brought in striker Joselu on loan from Espanyol, and winger Brahim Diaz has returned to the club following his three-year loan spell at AC Milan.

“Up front, we’re very good. We have different options,” said Ancelotti.

“Two players have arrived, and they bring positives. Joselu, thanks to his different characteristics. He is very good in the box… And Brahim can offer us more solutions between the lines.”
Madrid have made an imprint on the transfer window, though, signing England midfielder Jude Bellingham for 103 million euros ($113 million) from Borussia Dortmund.

Ancelotti will be hoping Bellingham can freshen up his midfield, which was still largely reliant on veterans Luka Modric and Toni Kroos last season.

The Italian hinted that Bellingham could play in a more attacking role than previously seen for Dortmund and England.

“I think he has a greater impact on the opponents if he plays higher. He’s more dangerous if he plays like a centre-forward.”

Madrid are bidding to bounce back from a disappointing season last term, when they finished a distant second in La Liga, 10 points behind Barcelona, and were beaten in the Champions League semi-finals by Manchester City.

Elsewhere this weekend, champions Barca kick off their title defence at Getafe on Sunday, before Atletico Madrid host Granada on Monday.

Ancelotti reveals cause of Madrid’s recent struggles in pre-season tour

    Carlo Ancelotti has
indicated that Real Madrid’s recent pre-season tour has highlighted a significant vulnerability for the club as they head into the 2023/24 season, particularly in their defense.

During their pre-season tour, Real Madrid allowed three goals across three matches. Their final pre-season game saw them suffer a 3-1 loss to the formidable Italian team Juventus.

Sportskeeda reports that Ancelotti openly acknowledged that his Real Madrid squad conceded an excessive number of goals during these matches. This followed their earlier match against rivals Barcelona, where they also let in three goals.

“Offensively, there are no problems, but we have to sort it out defensively. It’s an easy problem to solve. There are things we have to try in this period, and it has been quite clear what we need to fix things.”

After defeating AC Milan and Manchester United in their first two preseason games, Los Blancos have been thrashed in their last two games against Barcelona and Juventus.

Fans have taken to social media to lambast Real Madrid after they lost 3-1 to Juventus in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday night in the United States, SB Media reports.

Fantastic, unique and a complete midfielder – Ancelotti praises Jude Bellingham after Madrid, AC Milan debut

Jude Bellingham’s dazzling performance in his debut game for Real Madrid has left coach Carlo Ancelotti in absolute awe of the young English midfielder’s exceptional qualities.

Despite being just 20 years old, the England international stole the spotlight in midfield during Los Blancos’ pre-season friendly match against AC Milan, even though he had been on the pitch for a little over an hour.

Bellingham was immediately thrust into a midfield quartet alongside seasoned players like Toni Kroos, Federico Valverde, and Eduardo Camavinga, and it was the young Englishman who truly captured the attention of both the fans and his manager.

According to reports from Madrid Universal, Ancelotti has showered praise on Bellingham, recognizing him as an important asset for the Spanish giants.

The coach hailed the English midfielder as a complete player, undoubtedly impressed by his outstanding performance and potential at such a young age.

“Jude Bellingham? He’s a fantastic player. He’s very important. He’s a complete midfielder. Very good without the ball. He’s unique, extraordinary.”

Last month, Bellingham became the most expensive British player after sealing a move to Madrid worth a reported fee of £113 million.

Meanwhile, a compilation of Jude Bellingham’s highlights during his Real Madrid debut against AC Milan has gone viral following the England midfielder’s stunning performance for the La Liga giants, Sport Bible reports.

Real Madrid fought back from two goals down to eventually win the tie 3-2 against the Serie A giants, with Bellingham instantly becoming the fans’ favourite despite starting in a team of established midfielders such as Toni Kroos.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Jude Bellingham sent social media into a frenzy with a sensational display on his Real Madrid debut.

Thrown into action by Carlo Ancelotti during Madrid’s first pre-season match, the young midfielder adapted seamlessly, contributing to their comeback victory against AC Milan on July 24.

Bellingham’s impressive performance saw him dominate the midfield effortlessly, as he confidently held his ground for 63 minutes before being substituted for Nico Paz.

‘Not right’ – Real Madrid’s Ancelotti speaks on Mbappe links to club

The ongoing transfer saga surrounding Kylian Mbappe continues to make headlines, with Real Madrid rumored to be interested in signing the French superstar.

However, Mbappe has remained adamant about staying in Paris.

While on Real Madrid’s pre-season tour in the USA, coach Carlo Ancelotti avoided discussing the Mbappe rumors, stating that he will only focus on his current players.

Mbappe is currently in a contract stand-off with Paris Saint-Germain, who are eager to avoid losing him for free next summer.

The club wants him to sign a new deal, but the World Cup winner has expressed his desire to run down his current contract.

Last summer, Madrid came close to signing Mbappe, but he ultimately opted to sign a new two-year deal with PSG.

Despite the extension, reports suggest that his relationship with club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi remains strained.

Al-Khelaifi has reportedly given Mbappe an ultimatum to sign a new one-year deal or be sold this summer.

Furthermore, there are rumors that the club might resort to extreme measures, such as benching Mbappe, in an attempt to push him towards an exit.

    Ancelotti on Mbappe

According to Mario Cortegana, via Fabrizio Romano, the former PSG manager refused to speak about Mbappe in his interview. He instead said he will only talk about players on his team.

“Mbappé? I have never talked about players who are not at Real Madrid”. I can talk about Bellingham, Arda Güler, Fran García & Brahim, who has returned very well from Milan…Talking about players who are not here is not right.”

Al-Khelaifi did not meet Mbappe face-to-face when the French star returned to training last week.

He instead welcomed six new signings to the club – Milan Skriniar, Marco Asensio, Manuel Ugarte, Lucas Hernandez; Kang-in Lee, and Cher Ndour, per Sky Sports.

Madrid youngster Rodrygo said he hopes his club buys Mbappe because he will help them.

    Kylian Mbappe Returns to PSG

Earlier, Sports Brief reported amid the prevailing uncertainty surrounding his future, Kylian Mbappe has joined his Paris Saint-Germain teammates for the first time this preseason.

The 2018 World Cup winner has recently been in disagreement with the PSG hierarchy, expressing his dissatisfaction through interviews and a formal letter.

While Mbappe has affirmed his intention to remain with the Ligue 1 champions for the upcoming season, rumours linking him with a potential move to Real Madrid persist.

Ancelotti anticipated to face tax evasion trial

Manager of Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti maybe in big trouble after being accused of tax evasion fraud in 2014 by the Spanish government.

Together with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, the Italian manager is the most well-known player in Spanish football to have recently come under the tax authorities’ attention.

The Real Madrid manager was allegedly charged in 2014 with cheating the Spanish Treasury of €386,361 according to Football Espana.

His image rights at the time are what are covered by the monies.

The charge against Ancelotti will now be moved to the trial stage as the judge believes the Italian manager deliberately hid the money from the country’s tax authorities.

The incident is said to have happened during Ancelotti’s first spell in charge of Real Madrid between June 2013 and May 2015, in a tenure that lasted 693 days.

    Madrid hunt for Ancelotti’s replacement

Meanwhile, Real Madrid has begun their search for Ancelotti’s replacement after the Italian confirmed he would be taking charge of the Brazilian national team after the 2023/24 season.

According to the Daily Post, Los Blancos will consider four of their former players to replace the 67-year-old manager, who has entered the final year of his contract with the Spanish giants.

The publication stated Real Madrid will consider Zinedine Zidane, Xabi Alonso, Raul Gonzalez, and Alvaro Arbeloa to succeed Ancelotti when the veteran coach leaves next summer.

    Ancelotti drags Everton to court

Meanwhile, Sports Brief reported on Real Madrid manager, Ancelotti suing former club Everton in London’s high court over commercial disputes, two years after he left the English club.

The veteran Italian manager has reportedly filed a legal claim against the English Premier League outfit in a case said to be related to ‘general commercial contracts and arrangements’.

Everton are undergoing a spell of severe financial and administrative struggles, with three of their directors leaving the club and chairman, Bill Kenwright, also ‘on the verge’ of departing.

Odriozola, Jesus can confirm they are unwanted in Ancelotti’s Madrid – Reports

Real Madrid Coach Carlo Ancelotti has not changed his position on a few players that are surplus in the Spanish capital.

Prior to the new season, the Champions League-winning manager reportedly left out a few players from his training session.

Ancelotti is renowned for his excellent man-management abilities, and by putting those abilities to the test, he has been better able to express his actual thoughts regarding departures from the team.

Alvaro Odriozola and Jesus Vallejo have reportedly known for the previous year that the Italian manager doesn’t want them, and this preseason has made that message more obvious than ever, according to sources from Cadena SER.

According to reports from Cadena SER, both Alvaro Odriozola and Jesus Vallejo have been aware that they are not wanted by the Italian manager for the past year and this preseason has seen that message made clearer than ever.

    Vallejo, Odriozola contract situation

The Italian used both defenders for a combined 180 minutes last season, and while former Real Sociedad full-back Odriozola is more likely to look for an exit, Vallejo appears quite content at Los Blancos.

While Vallejo is on a contract with Madrid until 2025, Odriozola who previously was on loan at Bayern Munich will see his contract end next summer.

The latter has been linked to the club he came through at, Real Sociedad, or a move back to Serie A according to reports from Diario AS.

This news is no surprise to anyone keeping across the situation, but Los Blancos will want to move them on if possible.

Both were promising talents in the Spanish game, but an initial failure to make the step up, followed by a lack of game time which has since stunted their development.

Its time for older players to step as Ancelotti take over – Brazilian forward Danilo

Defender Danilo (31) emphasized the need for Brazil’s senior players to take on leadership roles as the team operates without a permanent manager.

The Brazilian Football Association (CBF) is still in pursuit of Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti to fill the coaching position left vacant since Tite’s resignation following Brazil’s quarter-final exit in the 2022 World Cup.

In their upcoming match against Guinea in Barcelona, the five-time world champions will be guided by Under-20 manager Ramon Menezes, who also oversaw their 2-1 defeat to Morocco in April.

Danilo expressed that the more experienced players should shoulder greater responsibility during this interim period while the search for a new manager continues.

“Of course the subject surrounding our next manager has dominated everything, because it’s normal that it does,” Danilo said on Friday, after six of the first seven questions of his press conference were about Ancelotti.

“At this moment, when there is caution in deciding who will be the next coach, it is time for us, the more experienced players, to give back for what we have already received from the national team.

“We have the obligation to give a little bit more to maintain stability for those young players who are getting their first opportunities.”

CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues said on Tuesday that he would hold talks with Ancelotti’s representatives and the club this week and did not rule out waiting until July 2024 to appoint him as coach.

Danilo said that Rodrigues met with the leaders of the Brazil squad that included him, Casemiro, Marquinhos and Alisson, to consult on the possibility of going through the next 12 months with a caretaker manager so the Italian could take over with two years to prepare for the 2026 World Cup.

The Juventus player said they appreciated the opportunity to have their voice heard, but insisted that it was not their job to pick the manager.

“Right now our role is to make whatever the president decides work,” Danilo added.

“This way we will have more tranquillity to work. The president is a guy who listens a lot, is always present and active.”

  • Brazil president not really happy about Ancelotti’s coaching role

Brazil president not really happy about Ancelotti’s coaching role

The appointment of Carlo Ancelotti (64) as the new Brazil football coach has faced criticism from Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who suggested that Ancelotti should focus on resolving the issues within the Italian national team instead.

Ancelotti, an Italian coach with an impressive track record, having won the Champions League a record four times, will assume his role before the Copa America in the United States next June, after fulfilling his contractual obligations with Real Madrid.

President Lula da Silva’s comments reflect his belief that Ancelotti should concentrate on addressing the challenges faced by the Italian national team rather than taking charge of the Brazilian team.

However, it remains to be seen how this criticism will impact Ancelotti’s tenure as Brazil’s coach.

“I admire Ancelotti, but he has never been Italy’s national coach,” Lula told TV station SBT on Thursday.

“Why does he not resolve Italy’s problem, who did not qualify for the 2022 World Cup?” added the 77-year-old.

In the interim, Fluminense coach Fernando Diniz will be in charge of Brazil for their opening 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

“I am a fan of Diniz,” said Lula. “He has the personality, the creativity and it is he who commands the dressing room.”

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has opted for Ancelotti believing one of the most successful coaches in European football history will deliver them their sixth World Cup trophy but first since 2002.

The desire is even greater after bitter rivals Argentina won in Qatar last December.

Brazil were knocked out in the quarter-finals and coach Tite stepped down.

“It is very easy to coach a club in Europe with 11 international players in the team,” said Lula.

“What is difficult is to come here and to coach Corinthians (who are in danger of relegation from the top league).

“I would like to see if Ancelotti did a good job with Corinthians.”

Lula is pessimistic that no matter who the coach is they will have a tough time in the World Cup qualifiers with the present generation of Brazil players.

“The problem is not Diniz, the problem is we do not possess today the level of players we had in previous eras,” said Lula.

Ancelotti will be the fourth non-Brazilian to coach Brazil. The last was Argentine Filpo Nunez who was in charge for one game in 1965.

  • Real Madrid’s Ancelotti reportedly agrees to take on Brazil coaching challenge

Real Madrid’s Ancelotti reportedly agrees to take on Brazil coaching challenge

The Brazilians were deeply disappointed by their performance in the 2022 edition of the tournament, where they were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Croatia, while their arch-rivals Argentina went on to win the trophy.

Tite, who had been in charge for six years, decided to step down after their elimination.

After months of negotiations with Ednaldo Rodrigues, the head of the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF), Ancelotti agreed to take over as the coach of Brazil.

Despite previously stating that his role at Real Madrid would be his last after nearly three decades in coaching, Ancelotti’s mindset changed when presented with the opportunity to take on one of the most prestigious and demanding positions in football.

The Brazilian hierarchy cited Ancelotti’s impressive track record of winning trophies, as well as his relaxed demeanor and ability to foster strong relationships with players, as the factors that attracted them to him as their new coach.

“We went after him not only due to his record, but also because he is a decent person,” Rodrigues told beIN Sports recently.

“Those who have worked with him say that he is open, cultured, and he appreciates Brazilian football.”

One moment his love of Brazilian football was put on hold was when he was assistant coach to Arrigo Sacchi as Italy lost to Brazil on penalties in the 1994 World Cup final.

With Brazil, Ancelotti will have some familiar faces from Real Madrid.

Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo and Eder Militao have been key players in his latest spell with Real which has resulted in six trophies.

“He is the best coach in the world,” said Vinicius, who has developed under Ancelotti and formed a close bond with the coach who supported the 22-year-old Brazilian when he was the target of racist abuse last season.

Ancelotti will be the fourth non-Brazilian to coach Brazil. The last was Argentine Filpo Nunez who was in charge for one game in 1965.

Ancelotti has won the Champions League twice with both AC Milan and Real Madrid.

He has won domestic league titles with Real and Milan, in England with Chelsea, in Germany with Bayern Munich and in France with Paris Saint-Germain.

    ‘It is a dream’

Ramon Menezes has been in charge of the Brazil team since Tite stood down on a caretaker basis.

The Brazilian federation had announced earlier on Wednesday that Fluminense’s Fernando Diniz would take charge of the team for the coming year.

“Fernando Diniz will lead the Brazilian team for a year, and I’m sure he will do it with great competence, as always during his professional career,” said Rodrigues in a video statement.

The 49-year-old will be in charge of the first six South American qualifying games for the 2026 World Cup this year, including the clashes with world champions Argentina and Uruguay.

“It is a dream, an honour and a huge pride to serve the national team,” Diniz said.

Brazil will start their qualifying campaign in September at home against Bolivia and then away against Peru.
