“No DNA, no burial” – Mohbad’s father maintains stance

Joseph Aloba, the father of late Nigerian singer Mohbad, has once again stressed that his son will not be laid to rest until a DNA test is carried out to confirm the paternity of the child left behind.

A Magistrate Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, had previously directed that a Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) test be conducted to determine whether Liam Aloba is indeed the biological child of the deceased. The order was issued by Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga while delivering a ruling on an application filed by Aloba.

In a video shared on his TikTok page and sighted by PUNCH Metro on Sunday, Joseph Aloba alleged that some powerful individuals were working behind the scenes to derail the process.

“Some powerful people have connived to use Mohbad’s death to frustrate me. After the toxicology was done, nothing came out of it, and now they have gone to pick a questionable DNA centre,” he claimed.

He further revealed that he is considering seeking a transfer of the case from Lagos State to Ekiti State, pending discussions with his lawyer.

“If possible, we will seek to transfer the case from Lagos to Ekiti State. I will consult my lawyer on that,” he added.

Maintaining his stance, Aloba appealed to the Lagos State Government to permit the burial of his son but insisted that the DNA test must first be completed as it forms a crucial part of the evidence.

“I am calling on the Lagos State Government to allow me to bury my son, but without DNA, we cannot proceed. It is part of the evidence,” he said.

He also called on the public to back his demand, emphasising that establishing the truth about the child’s paternity is essential.

Earlier reports by PUNCH Metro indicated that the family’s legal team had raised concerns about the capability of some laboratories selected for the DNA test. According to the family’s lawyer, Oladayo Ogungbe, the court on February 24, 2026, ordered that the test be conducted across three mutually agreed laboratories to ensure credibility and transparency.

The facilities listed include DNA Diagnostics Centre, AlphaBiolabs, and Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited. However, preliminary assessments reportedly raised questions about the technical capacity of some of these labs.

Mohbad died in September 2023 under controversial circumstances, triggering widespread public outrage and legal battles over his estate, royalties, and the paternity of his child.

His son, Liam, was born in April 2023, just months before his death, and the unresolved paternity issue continues to draw significant public attention.

The autopsy report on late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, has revealed a suspected drug reaction as a potential cause of his unexpected passing.

Conducted at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, the autopsy and toxicology tests suggested the possibility of a severe allergic reaction or drug response contributing to Mohbad’s death.

Anaphylactic shock, a severe allergic reaction with potentially fatal outcomes, was identified as a possible factor.

Samples from the late singer’s stomach contents, blood, bone marrow, liver, kidney, and lung underwent toxicology screening.

The results showed the presence of Diphenhydramine, an antihistamine often used for treating allergies, gastrointestinal issues, colds, and anxiety.

Despite finding Diphenhydramine in Mohbad’s bloodstream, the levels were considered too low to be lethal.

Anatomical and pathological examinations revealed minor injuries on Mohbad’s right forearm and moderate to severe decomposition due to his body being exhumed eight days post-burial.

However, no significant findings directly linked to his death were discovered.

The autopsy highlighted the importance of timely blood sampling for diagnosing fatal anaphylactic shock, a step hindered by Mohbad’s early burial.

The report stated, “The cause of death could not be conclusively determined. Nonetheless, the possibility of a fatal anaphylactic shock (drug reaction) cannot be ruled out, given the absence of significant post-mortem and toxicology findings.”

Mohbad, a 27-year-old artist formerly affiliated with Naira Marley’s record label, Marlian Music, tragically passed away on September 12, 2023, under controversial circumstances, sparking nationwide debate and scrutiny.

In response, the Lagos State Police Command formed a 13-member special investigation team on September 18, 2023, to probe the incident, resulting in the apprehension of Naira Marley, Balogun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry, and other individuals.

Showbiz promoter Sam Larry has finally broken his silence on the ongoing controversy surrounding the death of rising Afrobeats star Mohbad.

Speaking via video at the coroner’s inquest, Sam Larry firmly denied ever assaulting Mohbad.

He explained that their relationship was purely professional and had nothing to do with the unfortunate incident.

“I never harassed or beat Mohbad. The only connection I had with him was giving him shows,” he said.

Sam Larry shared more details during his appearance at the coroner’s inquest into Mohbad’s death.

He revealed that their disagreement began after he paid Mohbad ₦2 million to perform at his birthday party in Dubai—a celebration that reportedly cost over ₦20 million to organize.

According to him, Mohbad failed to show up at the last minute, which caused tensions between them.

“I messaged him on Instagram to refund the money, but he ignored me. I even involved my lawyer… still nothing,” Larry said.

He also addressed the widely circulated Elegushi Beach video, stating that he only confronted Mohbad verbally and that the issue was quickly settled, thanks to fellow musician Zlatan.

“Afterwards, we all sat down to eat. There was no fight,” he claimed.

Larry confirmed that Mohbad had filed a petition against him, accusing him of showing up at the beach with thugs and weapons. However, he claimed Mohbad never honored any police invitations to follow up on the allegations.

Regarding a viral video in which he was heard saying, “Won ti gbe sin” (They’ve buried him), Sam Larry explained that the clip was from 2013, unrelated to Mohbad, and had been taken out of context.

He concluded his testimony by calling on the court to investigate the people who were with Mohbad in his final hours. “They know what really happened to him,” he said.

In addition to medical concerns, names like Naira Marley, Sam Larry, and Primeboy were initially linked to the case due to prior conflicts. However, after a thorough inquiry, a Lagos Magistrate Court cleared them of any wrongdoing.

Following his exoneration, Naira Marley addressed the situation, expressing a mix of emotions, adding that he and Mohbad had made peace before the unfortunate incident.

“I’m broken, not destroyed,” he stated.

Court grants Mohbad’s family permission for a second autopsy

The Aloba family has secured court authorization for a second autopsy on Nigerian singer Mohbad, following dissatisfaction with the initial findings.

    Background

Mohbad, a prominent Nigerian rapper, passed away in September 2023 after being diagnosed with an “ear infection” by an unlicensed nurse, who has since been arrested. The first autopsy, conducted by the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) after Mohbad’s body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, failed to determine the cause of death, citing decomposition and potential reactions to medications as contributing factors.

    Family’s Response and Legal Actions

Unhappy with these results, the Aloba family questioned the authenticity of the autopsy report and sought confirmation from the Lagos State Government, amid discussions of conducting an autopsy in the United States. With the court’s approval, they are now set to proceed with an independent, private autopsy.

Joseph Aloba, Mohbad’s father, expressed gratitude for the court’s intervention, emphasizing the importance of uncovering the truth behind his son’s death. Grace Shorinde, the family’s legal representative, highlighted the urgency of obtaining the autopsy results before August 7th, aligning with the coroner’s inquest deadline.

    Human Rights and Legal Support

Rotimi Adigun from the Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice reaffirmed their commitment to seeking justice for Mohbad, pledging support for the Aloba family. Lawyer David Wonuola emphasized the significance of witness statements and autopsy evidence in achieving justice.

    Looking Ahead

As the second autopsy proceeds, the world awaits conclusive answers regarding the circumstances of Mohbad’s untimely passing.

The family of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, has rejected the autopsy findings and is calling for an independent post-mortem and toxicology examination.

Mohbad died on September 12 at 27, in circumstances that raised questions, prompting the police to conduct an autopsy on September 21 to determine the cause of death.

In a virtual press conference led by Joseph Aloba, Mohbad’s father, and their legal team, they expressed dissatisfaction with the inconclusive nature of the autopsy results.

They specifically raised concerns about where and how the autopsy and toxicology tests were conducted, noting conflicting reports.

The family stressed the importance of having a reputable and internationally recognized forensic laboratory re-examine the toxicology samples to ensure adherence to the highest forensic science standards.

They called for transparency, collaboration with international experts, and prompt action from relevant authorities, including the Inspector General of Nigeria Police, to uncover the truth and bring justice to Mohbad’s memory.

Furthermore, they urged the coroner’s court to expedite a hearing on their request for an independent autopsy and toxicology test, highlighting its critical role in delivering justice and revealing the actual circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death. Despite challenges like body decomposition, they emphasized the need for a thorough investigation to uncover the truth.

They remarked: “We, the legal representatives of the Aloba family, express our profound dissatisfaction and disappointment with the recent announcement regarding the toxicology test results of the late Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (Mohbad), which have been declared inconclusive by the pathologist.

“This outcome is entirely unacceptable to us and the Aloba family and raises serious concerns about the integrity and thoroughness of the investigation by the police and the medical team into the untimely death of their beloved son, brother, and friend. Drug reaction possible cause of Mohbad’s death – Autopsy reports

An autopsy conducted on the late singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, professionally known as MohBad, at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), has provided insights into his potential cause of death.

The report, obtained by TheCable on Thursday, suggests a possible drug reaction, though the exact cause remains uncertain based on the limited post-mortem and toxicology findings.

Samples of MohBad’s gastric content, blood, bone marrow, liver, kidney, and lung were collected for a thorough toxicology examination.

The results revealed the presence of diphenhydramine, an antihistamine used to treat allergies, stomach ailments, cold symptoms, and anxiety, in his system. However, the concentration detected was not considered fatal.

The anatomical and pathological examination noted an injury on MohBad’s right forearm, and his body was found to be moderately to severely decomposed upon exhumation. The report suggests the possibility of a fatal anaphylactic shock or drug reaction, despite inconclusive post-mortem and toxicology results. Anaphylactic shock is a severe allergic reaction with potentially life-threatening implications.

The report highlights, “The body neither had an autopsy nor was embalmed prior to interment on the second day. Following the Order for Exhumation, the body was exhumed on 21/09/2023, eight days after the burial.”

“Autopsy revealed moderate to marked decomposition of organs. Apart from the superficial injury on the right forearm, no significant gross finding could be attributed to death.”

“Samples were taken for toxicology to determine if there was any anaphylactic reaction, substances of abuse, overdosage, or common household poisoning. Toxicology revealed positive findings of Diphenhydramine, an antihistamine; however, this concentration was not in a fatal or lethal range. The other analytics were unremarkable.”

“In determining fatal anaphylactic shock, blood sample needs to be taken as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, this was prevented or made impossible by the burial of the deceased on the second day. In light of the foregoing, the cause of death could not be ascertained. However, the possibility of a fatal anaphylactic shock (drug reaction) could be considered in view of the absence of any significant post-mortem and toxicology findings.”

MohBad passed away at the age of 27 on September 12, 2023, under mysterious circumstances and was buried the following day.

US lab distances itself from toxicology test on Mohbad

The National Medical Services Laboratories in Pennsylvania, USA, have refuted the Lagos State Government’s claim about the toxicology test conducted to ascertain the cause of death for singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad.

This rebuttal from NMS Labs emerged amidst ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the musician’s passing.

Before this development, public concern escalated following statements made by a pathologist in the Coroner’s Court on Wednesday, May 15.

The pathologist had initially stated that an autopsy couldn’t establish Mohbad’s cause of death due to the state of his remains.

Earlier reports indicated that in November 2023, O. Akinde, representing the state government, informed the Coroner’s Court about a crucial toxicology test conducted in the United States to determine the cause of Mohbad’s death.

Backing up this information, Gbenga Omotoso, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, mentioned during a live phone call with Ahmad Isah on the Brekete Family online program in February 2024 that the toxicology test was carried out at NMS Labs in Pennsylvania, USA.

Omotoso explained, “The matter is being handled by the state DNA and Forensic Centre, but they are doing skeletal services, and they have affiliate centres which are three.”

He further added, “So, if there is an emergency like this one that we have, they will not say they cannot handle it. So, there are three of them in the US and the one handling this particular one is the NMS in Pennsylvania, USA.”

Reports indicated that the test results arrived in Nigeria in April 2024 and were passed on to a pathologist for analysis.

Autopsy for Mohbad’s death failed to determine cause – Pathologist reveals

The post-mortem examination of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has yielded no definitive cause of death, as reported during a recent press briefing in Lagos State.

Wahab Shittu, a distinguished Senior Advocate of Nigeria, shared that the examination was hindered by significant decomposition, preventing a clear determination of what led to Mohbad’s passing.

According to Shittu, the forensic expert conducting the autopsy explained that due to the advanced decomposition of the body at the time of examination, pinpointing the cause of death was not possible.

This uncertainty leaves the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death under suspicion and without a specific explanation.

Additionally, the pathologist raised the possibility of medications administered before Mohbad’s death potentially playing a role.

However, definitive confirmation of whether these medications directly contributed to his passing remains elusive.

As a result, the inquest into Mohbad’s death has been postponed until June 11th.

This delay aims to allow for further questioning and investigation to glean more insights from the forensic expert regarding the circumstances surrounding the acclaimed singer’s untimely demise.

Mohbad’s autopsy commenced eight months ago

The Lagos Police Command verified the exhumation of Mohbad’s body for post-mortem analysis on September 21, 2023, due to the suspicious nature of his passing.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos Police, announced this through his official communication channels.

Additionally, Hundeyin reported the detention of the nurse implicated in delivering the lethal injection to the late musician.

In the early stages of the probe, the police constituted a 19-member panel to carry out a thorough investigation, which included tasks like exhumation, autopsy, inspection of the scene, medical evaluations, and gathering statements from suspects and witnesses.

The panel was charged with concluding their detailed investigation within a fortnight.

The decision came after Emmanuel Oroko, leading the legal team for the Aloba family, informed the court that attempts to deliver the court documents for the DNA test on her son by the Sheriff had failed twice.

Consequently, the Chief Magistrate directed that Wunmi be served by posting the court documents at her last known address.

This information was disclosed in a statement signed by Monoplane Odumosu, a member of the legal team representing the Aloba family, and obtained by PUNCH, a news outlet in Nigeria.

Odumosu mentioned, “If the process were served on the last-known address of the respondent by Order of the Court, it would constitute good service, and she would be aware of the pending suit. The Chief Magistrate granted the order and ordered that the respondent be served by posting the court process on her last known address.”

“It will be recalled that the Aloba family is contesting the paternity of baby Liam and filed an application before the Family Court, seeking an order of the court against Wunmi to present herself and baby Liam for a DNA test at any recognized laboratory in Lagos,” the statement added.

Confess the truth about my son’s death – Mohbad’s father to daughter-in-law

Father of the late Afrobeats sensation Mohbad, Joseph Aloba has once again confronted his daughter-in-law, Wunmi, urging her to disclose every detail she knows about the untimely demise of the renowned singer.

The family, already embroiled in a bitter dispute over reburial, unclaimed royalties, and paternity allegations, now faces a new twist as the coroner’s inquest into Mohbad’s death prolongs the release of autopsy results.

Despite 170 days passing since Mohbad’s death and subsequent burial in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Mr. Aloba insists on obtaining the autopsy results before proceeding with his son’s reburial.

Wunmi, in a series of Instagram posts, claims to possess crucial information about Mohbad’s passing but alleges interference and bullying preventing her from speaking out.

Responding to Wunmi’s social media revelations, Mr. Aloba penned an open letter accusing her of seeking public sympathy and employing emotional blackmail.

“It is shameful, a disgrace and an embarrassment for you, a wife, to continually seek public sympathy and use emotional blackmail on me as a father, the entire family of Aloba, and the well-meaning public on the case of my son, whom to date no one knows what or who took his life at his prime.

“I want to ask you, if you were in my son’s shoes, would your family not ask him questions? Who are the ‘they’ that want to silence you about telling me what happened to the son I suffered to raise when no one was there? Even if we have our differences, is the death of my son worth it? A whole family and you are playing games with.

“You have had the opportunity at the coroner inquest to say everything you know, and I am saying, who and what stops you from saying what you know to your father-in-law and the well-meaning public?”

He challenged her to publicly disclose the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death, stating, “Until you tell me who and what killed my son, no one is safe with you.”

Dismissing claims that he demanded a DNA test for Mohbad’s son, Liam, Mr. Aloba asserted that Wunmi suggested it.

He urged her to share everything she knows about Mohbad’s death during the ongoing coroner’s inquest, warning her to cease accusing him on social media.

The saga continues as the public awaits Wunmi’s response and the eventual resolution of the disputes surrounding Mohbad’s death, shedding light on a family torn apart by grief and controversy.

Mohbad’s father isn’t the biological parent of my late son – Mohbad’s mother

Mohbad Aloba’s mother has made a startling revelation, claiming that her ex-husband, Mr. Joseph Aloba, is not the biological father of the late singer.

These astonishing allegations came to light in a leaked audio recording, where Mohbad’s mother contacted a blogger known for supporting Mr. Joseph Aloba in seeking justice for the deceased singer.

In the leaked audio, the grieving mother voiced her discontent with the blogger and Mohbad’s father, going as far as to utter curses directed at them.

The primary topic of discussion centered around her insistence on a DNA test within three days to ascertain whether Mr. Joseph Aloba is indeed Mohbad’s biological father.

In the midst of the emotionally charged conversation, Mohbad’s mother accused Mr. Joseph Aloba of never genuinely caring for the children, claiming that he used their situation to solicit funds for himself.

She also questioned the blogger’s intentions, questioning whether justice for Mohbad was sincerely the objective or if they were simply seeking to capitalize on the situation.

    In her words;

“Is it justice for Mohbad you’re looking for? Is he your sibling? Do you want Justice or you’re trying to steal money.

“You’re disturbing Nigerians; dribbling them left and right. Have you forgotten you have your own children? What you’re making my son face, you shall face it too.

“You thief! I give you three days to do dna; you’ll know that Baba Mohbad is not the biological father of Mohbad.

“You know I’m married to someone else. He’s not the owner of those kids; he’s just taking money on their behalf and you say you’re looking for justice for Mohbad.”

Mohbad left no will – Management clears air

Management of the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad has issued a response to the recent claims made by the late Nigerian singer’s father, Mr. Joseph Aloba, regarding the alleged discovery of a will thumbprint by his son before his untimely death.

In a recent interview with TVC, Mr. Joseph Aloba expressed surprise and scepticism over the purported will left by his 26-year-old son, questioning the rationale behind drafting such a document at such a young age.

He further raised concerns about the absence of a signature on the will, noting that it was solely thumb printed by Mohbad.

Mr. Aloba also recounted an unusual encounter with a lawyer, rather than a doctor, when he visited his son’s residence after the singer’s demise, hinting at potential discrepancies in the creation of the will.

According to him, they scrutinised the document, engaging in what he referred to as ‘mathematics’ on its authenticity.

Contrary to these claims, Mohbad’s management has now responded through an official statement posted on the late singer’s previously inactive Instagram page.

They categorically denied the existence of any will and stressed that, if there were one, it would have been reported to the probate registry.

The statement also revealed that all of Mohbad’s bank accounts have been frozen since his passing and will remain so until internal disputes are resolved.
In addressing the matter of the autopsy, the management confirmed that the procedure had been conducted.

However, they noted that the results from the samples sent abroad would take several months before being made available for public disclosure.

The management of the deceased artist, Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, has disclosed that the singer did not leave a will.

In response to recent comments by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, who asserted in an interview that his son had written a will before his demise, the late singer’s management issued a statement via his Instagram account on Monday. They labeled the assertion as “false and misleading.”

The statement partly read, “We would like to use this opportunity to share a few updates and highlight certain truths so that misconceptions and miscommunication do not persist.

“1. The Police Authorities have conducted an investigation and have communicated that the autopsy results from samples sent abroad will take a couple of months before they are shared.

“2. No member of Mohbad’s management or his lawyer has communicated the existence of a will or any such thumb-printed document (as has recently been FALSELY reported) to any member of the family or the public.

“We would like to state with certainty that if any such document did exist, it would have been duly registered with the Probate Registry. We, therefore, plead with everyone to refrain from sharing false and misleading statements like this.

“3. All accounts owned and controlled by Imole during his lifetime were immediately put on a Post No Debit order on the 12th of September 2023. This order remains valid till date. These accounts will be properly handed over to the family upon resolution of the internal dispute.”

Father of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, better known as Mohbad, Joseph Aloba, has shared what he would say to his son if he could see him again.

Mr. Joseph, who is a clergyman and singer, said he would advise his son to be careful when choosing a wife.

Mr. Smith Aloba said that his son’s wife, Wunmi, and her family caused a lot of harm to Mohbad.

In his remarks, Mr. Joseph made an argument that he might not be entirely in favour of his son’s marriage to Wunmi, as they had only gone to Wunmi’s parents for the introduction ceremony and had no idea that it would end up becoming a marriage.

He further revealed that Mohbad paid his wife’s dowry without consulting or getting permission from the family. He made it clear that he was surprised by Wunmi joining their family and that he had not anticipated the wedding.

“I will tell him that, next time he comes to the world, he should be careful of the wife he marries,” Mr. Aloba said during an interview on Max FM.

Mohbad died on Tuesday, September 12th 2023, in a strange way. His wife and their son are still alive.

Mohbad’s death: Lagos Coroner Court say toxicology test currently underway in the US

Lagos State Coroner Court, seated at Ita-Elewa in Ikorodu, has disclosed that an investigation is underway in the United States of America to determine the true cause of death for the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as MohBad.

The state counsel, O. Akinde, informed the Coroner Magistrate, Adetayo Shotobi, on Wednesday.

According to Akinde, the autopsy for the external body of the deceased has been completed, but the toxicology test, focusing on the internal body, is currently being conducted in the United States.

This information was conveyed in response to the insistence of other counsels, including David Nawoola, representing the deceased’s father, David Fadimu, and the representative of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Ikorodu, O.S.A. Aranmolaran.

Previously, the mother of the late singer, Mrs. Olumiyi, had urged Nigerians to intervene and encourage her husband to retrieve the remains of MohBad from the Lagos State Police Command for the final burial.

In a viral video, she claimed that MohBad’s father was impeding the burial process, and she maintained that the police had released the body, awaiting the family to collect it for burial.

She said, “Nigerians, I cry to you to help demand the release of my son’s corpse. I pray that you will not witness your children’s deaths too.

“Mohbad’s corpse has been released since the completion of the autopsy but his father has refused to let his corpse be released for burial despite me begging him repeatedly.”

“I went to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police last week, and he told me that Mohbad’s remains had been released before now, questioning why we are letting his body waste away and if we are happy that he’s dead,” she added.

Wunmi, the wife of Mohbad, has responded to the accusations made against her by her father-in-law. In a recent interview, she clarified that the statements made by the elderly man were entirely false and devoid of any truth.

According to Wunmi, her father-in-law is allegedly attempting to have her incarcerated to gain control over her late husband’s assets.

“Everything Baba (Mohbad’s father) has said about me is a lie,” she said. I opted not to grant interviews since I am mentally ill and need to care for my child. Baba wants me imprisoned so that all that belongs to my son can be transferred to him.

“He has been calling Adura (Moh’s brother) to lie against me at the coroner court. I have every proof. That was the reason Adura refused to go to him. Baba said he saw some clothes filled with blood when he came to our house after my husband passed away.

“That was a blatant lie. He has also told my mother-in-law that she must lie against me in court that she saw clothes that were filled with blood.

“He also influenced my mother-in-law’s sister to say she saw blo*d in the house. I am not a weak woman. I have so many things I can reveal about Baba but I decided to keep mute because of my son, Liam.

“If I start spilling secrets, people will know who Baba really is, but my son will grow to read the mess online; for now, I wouldrather hold my peace.”

Dead or alive, he still remains my son – ‘Nobody’ should touch his body – Mohbad’s father warns

Mr. Joseph Aloba, the father of the late afrobeat singer Mohbad, has expressed disapproval of the decision to retrieve his son’s body from police custody for a dignified funeral.

Several celebrities, including Bella Shmurda and Tonto Dikeh, had advocated for the removal of the deceased singer’s body from the mortuary to ensure a fitting burial.

This proposal arose two months after Mohbad’s exhumation by the police for investigative purposes.

In a recent video, Mohbad’s father condemned such actions and insisted that he should be consulted and given the authority to make such decisions rather than having them carried out without his knowledge.

He further emphasised the significance of obtaining bodily samples from his late son for a DNA test to establish paternity for Liam Light.

In his words, “I’ve been hearing maybe some people want to go and carry Mohbad’s body. When this boy was alive, he was my son. Now that he’s gone, he still retains my name. Nobody should go and carry Mohbad’s body from there.

“If there’s anything you want to do, I should be the one to authorise it. Let’s get justice for Mohbad; after burial, wetin remain? Let justice prevail first; the DNA is necessary.”

Mohbad was scared of going out for six months – Parents tell court

During the Coroner’s Inquest into the cause of death of the late singer Mohbad, his parents revealed that he had stopped attending shows for six months due to fear of frequent beatings, harassment, and bullying from his former label owner, Naira Marley, and his associate, Sammy Larry.

They further stated that Mohbad told them he was being attacked because he no longer wanted Naira Marley’s brother, Tunde Fashola, to be his manager.

The father of the late singer, Joseph Aloba, said, “Mohbad was scared of going out for six months. He said he did not know if the substance he drank at the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) will appear at the airport.”

He said the day Mohbad was inflicted with injury, he saw Naira Marley and his boys and claimed that Mohbad said it was customary for them to attack him.

On her own part, the mother said, “My son told us that there was a show that Naira Marley forced him to attend which he declined because it was Sammy Larry that was the organiser of that show.

“Whenever Mohbad was with me, he was always full of fear; he said it was Naira Marley who collected all the money for the shows he performed because the three-year contract that he signed with him had not elapsed.

“He always mentioned Naira Marley and Sammy Larry, and he was always shaking. I begged him several times to allow me to speak with them, but he refused, saying he didn’t want them to kill me.

“The last time he travelled for a show, after he came back, he mentioned to me that Naira Marley came to attack him, he reported the case to the police but I don’t know if the police invited Naira Marley,” the mother said.

She said she didn’t know that her son was a musician until she and Mohbad reconnected in 2019 at Ayobo after she had left him with his father when he was three years old.

Abosede said Mohbad was her second child and that he had two other siblings but when she and his father separated, she was not allowed to take the children with her except the last one because he was very young. She claimed he didn’t even stay long with her before the father took him away from her.

Mohbad’s mother said it was her younger sister who brought Mohbad and his friends to visit her and then they exchanged numbers.

She said when he told her that he sang, I told him that wasn’t the prophecy I got when I was pregnant with him. “You were supposed to be a pastor, I told him but he played with me and then left,” he recalled.

“After he left that night, somebody came to me and showed me a video that was circulating online that they were beating him and he was crying and said that Naira Marley wanted to kill him.

‘The following day, I got a call again that the deceased had been hospitalised. By the time I got there, they said he had been discharged and he was ok healthwise.

“Mohbad told me on the third day that he was inside the studio when he got a call that something was happening at Azeez Fashola (Naira Marley) house that the NDLEA came to raid his house,” she said.

The witness mentioned that the deceased rushed to Naira Marley’s house after hearing some information. At that time, the deceased’s younger brother, Adutra Aloba, and the deceased’s wife, Omowunmi Aloba, were staying at Naira Marley’s house. However, by the time the deceased arrived at Naira Marley’s house, Zinoleesky and others had already been taken away by the NDLEA.

“The deceased followed the NDLEA to their office and he asked why they took his friends away he became thirsty due to the argument between him and the NDLEA, then he was given water, he later discovered that he was not feeling ok again after drinking the water.

“I asked him why he was shouting on the Internet, he said Naira Marley wanted to kill him. I asked him why Naira Marley wants to kill you, he said I shouldn’t worry, that I cannot understand.

“I and one Iya Lode went to Naira Marley’s house and on seeing Naira Marley, he explained that the deceased spoiled his name. I and his father apologised to him, but he still wrote a statement that he (Naira Marley) wanted to kill him.

“I was at the deceased’s house on Saturday when the deceased told me that he had a show on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at Ikorodu but the following Tuesday I received a call that the deceased was dead,” she said.

During her testimony at the coroner’s inquest, the mother of the late singer, Mohbad, mentioned that her son had warned her not to reveal certain details in court because he feared for her safety.

In earlier testimony, the father, Joseph Aloba, explained that they buried Mohbad the next day because the mortuary had rejected his body. He also mentioned that he pointed out the burial site, which was on their family land.

Aloba recounted that when he arrived home on the day his son died, he initially went to the deceased’s room, where he found blood-soaked clothes, before learning that his son was in the living room.

The father of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, Joseph Aloba, testified on Wednesday at a Lagos State coroner court, shedding light on his son’s relationship with fellow artist Azeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley.

He disclosed that his son had been residing with Naira Marley since December 2019.

This testimony is part of the coroner’s inquest aimed at investigating the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s tragic death at the age of 27. The talented musician passed away on September 12 and was laid to rest the following day.

During his testimony, Mr. Aloba revealed that he and his son had lived together for 18 years. However, he was uncertain about the exact location of the residence where his son and Naira Marley cohabited. He mentioned that Mohbad moved out when he reached the age of consent to support Naira Marley in his music career.

Mr. Aloba recalled that he had last seen his son just three days before his tragic passing and had only seen a photo of his casket. His late son assured him that he could resolve his issues with Naira Marley.

Regarding the deceased’s belongings, Mr. Aloba revealed that his son’s landed properties were under the control of his mother-in-law. He also claimed that his daughter-in-law had at times mixed sleeping pills in his son’s food.

According to Mr. Aloba, Mohbad had confided in him about disputes over property held by his wife and her family.

He expressed concerns about his daughter-in-law’s fidelity, saying, “I don’t trust his wife. My son told me she always put sleeping pills in his noodles and went to another room to sleep with another artist signed by Naira Marley in the same house.”

Mr. Aloba also mentioned that Mohbad had attempted to reconcile him with his mother. He concluded by revealing that his son had gifted him a car after their reconciliation.

The coroner, Adedayo Shotobi, expressed condolences to Mr. Aloba for his son’s tragic death and assured him that justice would be served.

It’s worth noting that Naira Marley and a Lagos socialite named Balogun Eletu were remanded in police custody on October 4 by a Yaba Magistrate’s Court in Lagos State in connection with Mohbad’s demise.

A Magistrate Court in the Yaba area of Lagos State has remanded Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, and Lagos socialite Balogun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry, in police custody for a period of 21 days.

This decision was reached after the Lagos State Police Command requested a 30-day custody period to complete their investigation, but the court ruled in favor of a 21-day remand.

Both Naira Marley and Sam Larry have faced allegations related to the death of an individual, allegations they have vehemently denied. The situation has garnered attention due to the strained relationship between Naira Marley and Mohbad, who left Marlian Records, owned by Naira Marley, under controversial circumstances last year.

  • MohBad death: ‘There’s no tangible evidence against Naira Marley’ – VeryDarkman

Controversial TikToker VeryDarkman has firmly stated that the CEO of Marlian Music Records, Naira Marley, bears no responsibility for the untimely death of his former signee, MohBad.

Notably, VeryDarkman gained prominence for his criticism of the Jenny’s Radiance skincare brand and has recently attracted attention for pressuring MohBad’s baby mama into conducting a DNA test for their baby, Liam.

His statement comes in the wake of reports that the Nigerian police have taken Naira Marley into custody. VeryDarkman emphasized that apart from a video in which MohBad suggested that Naira Marley should be held accountable if anything happened to him, there is no concrete evidence to support the claim. He also suggested that with competent legal representation, the case against Naira Marley would likely fall apart.

VeryDarkamn then begged any eyewitnesses who had reportedly also been the subject of Naira Marley’s abuse and who had been hired to publicize his purported drug operation to come forward and make their statements. He also asked Bella Shmurda, Lil Smart, Dj Splash, and the late singer’s mother to the stage in an effort to bring MohBad justice.

The contentious TikToker clarified that they couldn’t win the case by just appealing to the Nigerian people’s emotions and sentiments. Instead, MohBad will succeed and be given justice if they rely on the eyewitnesses.

He asserted that because Naira Marley is despised throughout Nigeria, certain individuals have a propensity to spread false facts to further the cause. In seeking justice, VeryDarkMan claimed that he thinks there are more prominent people—involved, whom Naira Marley and Sam Larry are being blamed for.

  • I have no hand in Mohbad’s death – Naira Marley replies allegations

Azeez Fashola, widely recognized as Naira Marley, a popular Nigerian singer and the owner of Marlian Music, the record label that previously had Mohbad as a signee, has faced public scrutiny in the wake of the demise of his former artist, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, known as Mohbad. Naira Marley has vehemently refuted any involvement in Mohbad’s death, emphasizing that he had no role in the tragic event.

Mohbad, who was formerly signed to Marlian Music, tragically passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023. In the aftermath of his untimely death, there have been allegations circulating that suggest Mohbad was subjected to assault by Naira Marley and his entourage.

However, in a statement he posted on his Instagram page on Tuesday, Naira Marley said though he and Mohbad had misunderstandings, he never fought or attacked him.

Naira Marley, who is not currently in Nigeria said he would return to the country to clear his name.

The statement reads: “In the last few days, there has been a lot of onslaught on my person and reputation globally over the death of my former signee. All manner of stories has been woven against me in respect of his untimely death. I have not only been in shock over the death of the deceased whom I considered to be my brother and member of our music family, but over the various lies spread and threats against me.

“Before I progress further, let me say that as it is traumatic for a lot of people to bear the reality of lleri’s death, so it is to me. May his gentle soul continue to rest in peace and may God grant his family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

“Permit me to categorically state that I have no hand in the death of llerioluwa, either directly or indirectly. It is not unusual in the industry, just like in several other industries to have family friction, even amongst blood relatives.

“Truly, we had our own share of misunderstandings whilst working together, but the disagreement between us was never to the extent being painted by some hirelings. It never degenerated to the extent of wishing each other death. Even at that, we were resolving our business disputes legally before he had passed.

“I have chosen not to say anything since due to being distraught over his death and in order not to jeopardize the investigation being carried out by the government agencies.

“In addition, I have been out of the country since the 31st of August, 2023 and I’m yet to return. In light of the police invitation, I am making arrangements to return to the country to assist the investigation and give my version of the events. I am fully cooperating with the Police team and I certainly have no reason to be a fugitive when I have no hand in his death

“I am certain that the culprit behind his death and has a vendetta against me and are fueling public opinions to have me lynched for reasons known to them. In due time the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death will be unveiled and the world will know the truth. This kind of scenario of attempting to set someone up is not novel in the industry as other great musicians have experienced the same and came out better and stronger. Mine will not be an exception as I am innocent of the accusations.

“Mohbad left the label in September 2022, the label accepted his departure. Marlian Music did not stop or interfere with his career or releases since and he has been with oneRPM. Legal efforts were made to reconcile his concerns regarding the work we had done together.

“The rumors regarding the label being a drug cartel are untrue. I am not a drug lord, neither do I Marley belong to any cult or fraternity. I’m dedicated to proving my innocence and I’m cooperating with the authorities to clear my name with sufficient evidence.

“Marlian Music is an independent label run by a small intimate team. We run a legitimate label that focuses on championing exceptional talent, breaking new acts and nurturing them

“I will like to clearly state that I have never fought or attacked Mohbad. For the avoidance of doubt I have never instructed anyone, friend, known associates or fans to attack, bully or harass Mohbad. With regards to the talent on the label, none of our artists ever fought or mistreated Mohbad.

“I share my deepest condolences to the family. Let’s be mindful as we seek justice to focus on supporting the police and authorities with relevant information and evidence surrounding his death so that those responsible will be apprehended. I am positive that at the end of the day. the truth will prevail and I shall be exonerated.

“My lawyers are already in touch with the police and government agencies and will support in every way necessary.

“Without a doubt I will honor his memory and I promise to do right by him and his family.”

Nigerian Nurse Association reveal that unregistered nurse treated Mohbad

The Lagos State Council of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has urged comprehensive inquiries into the passing of Afrobeat sensation Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

Additionally, the association has emphasized that the individual who purportedly administered an injection to the deceased prior to his demise is not a registered nurse.

Mohbad, the 27-year-old Afrobeat star, passed away on September 12 under uncertain circumstances.

In the wake of his sudden demise, which has triggered extensive public outcry both online and offline, Nigerians have demanded a thorough investigation to unveil the circumstances surrounding the musician’s death.

On Monday, the police established a 19-member committee tasked with conducting a discreet investigation encompassing exhumation, autopsy, scene examination, medical reports, records of suspects, and statements from witnesses.

Furthermore, the nurse, regarded as a key suspect in the case, has been apprehended by the police.

In a statement signed by NANNM’s state secretary, Toba Odumosu, and sent to PREMIUM TIMES on Saturday, the association said preliminary investigations indicate that the individual reportedly taken into custody by the police for providing care to Mohbad is not a registered nurse.

The association said it is closely monitoring the situation with keen interest.”

It also stressed the importance of professionalism in reporting and conducting the investigation which has gained global attention.

The statement reads in part; “Our preliminary investigations indicate that the individual reportedly taken into custody by the police for providing care to Mohbad is not a registered nurse.

“We emphasise the critical need to verify the qualifications and professional status of individuals before labelling them as healthcare professionals.”

The association noted that it is regrettable that Nigeria’s healthcare system faces significant regulatory challenges, “leading to the presence of unqualified individuals performing medical roles they are not trained for.”

It said to be recognised as a nurse in Nigeria, one must complete a rigorous five-year Bachelor of Nursing Science programme at a university, followed by an additional year of internship.

“Alternatively, one can undergo training at an accredited School/College of Nursing and become registered and licensed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).

“We wish to clarify that the term ‘Auxiliary Nurse’ has no place within Nigeria’s healthcare system or its laws. An individual is either a qualified nurse or an unqualified individual performing tasks beyond their competence.”

The association also expressed their deepest condolences to the family and associates of the late musician, Mohbad, during this difficult time of grief.

“We fully support the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death and urge the relevant authorities to leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of justice for him.”

The association called on the investigating authorities and the media to exercise caution and accuracy in their reporting during this investigation.

  • Mohbad: AFRIMA mourns artiste, emphasizes need for music industry regulation

Mohbad: AFRIMA mourns artiste, emphasizes need for music industry regulation

The All Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA, has underscored the critical significance of establishing regulations and formal structures within the music and entertainment sector.

This message comes as AFRIMA stands in solidarity with millions of African youths and music enthusiasts in expressing profound sadness over the unexpected passing of Nigeria’s pop sensation, Mohbad, whose tragic death occurred under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday, September 12, 2023.

At present, law enforcement authorities are actively engaged in an investigation to determine the precise cause of his untimely demise. Mohbad, a 27-year-old emerging music talent renowned by the alias “Imole” (which means “Light”), was celebrated for his youthful exuberance, boundless creativity, and extraordinary lyrical prowess, which had captivated the hearts of countless fans worldwide.

The President and Executive Producer of AFRIMA, Mike Dada, conveyed deep sorrow at the loss of this promising talent within Africa’s burgeoning music industry, characterized by its recent growth and vibrancy.

In light of this tragic event, he highlighted the urgent need for the music and entertainment sector to undergo institutionalization, emphasizing that this remains a top priority in addressing the longstanding issue of unprofessional practices that have persisted within the industry across the African continent.

He writes:  “On behalf of the International Committee of AFRIMA, we condole with Nigeria’s music industry, parents and fans of Mohbad, over his painful demise.

“The death of Mohbad is a tragic event that has left us all deeply saddened. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time.

“With his demise, Africa has lost a promising talent in our growing music and entertainment industry. We pray God to grant him eternal rest, and grant his parents, family, and teeming fans the fortitude to bear his irreplaceable loss.”

“AFRIMA is spearheading efforts to mobilise stakeholders in the creative industry in Africa, with a focus on Nigeria, to establish institutionalized operations and regulate the music entertainment industry.

According to Dada, this includes the enactment of legislation that sets industry standards, regulations and compliance for music record labels, performing artistes, music publishing companies, entertainment lawyers and other professionals.

“It is necessary to have a law that regulates the music industry to prevent it from becoming an unregulated free-for-all, as currently, the entry requirements are low such that anyone can just wake up and establish a music record label.

“To address this issue, African countries must establish a Music Institute to certify practitioners regularly.

AFRIMA is leveraging its platform to organize a stakeholder summit aimed at engaging the legislative arm of governments across Africa through the African Union.

“AFRIMA urges stakeholders, including relevant government officials and agencies, artistes, record labels, A&R, producers, promoters, artiste’s managers, brands, songwriters, DJs & video vixens, video directors, equipment production and rental companies, publishing companies, streaming service companies, entertainment lawyers, royalty companies among others, to participate in this crucial process. We urge stakeholders to submit their proposed legislation for review and consideration,” the AFRIMA President stated.
